Long Covid/PASC (general)
Barcelona researchers followed 192,000 people and found long COVID was 3–10 times more common in those with three or more infections than in those with just one.
Thrombotic events in people over 60 have doubled since 2020.
“Story from @PutrinoLab at @HHSGov roundtable on providing #LongCovid education to over 1,000 PCPs:
‘30% [of PCPs] before the seminar did not believe LC was real, an hour and 1/2 later, 0% said that — and it was just presenting good quality data to them.’”
A new Dutch study in BMJ Open 2025 followed people 2 years after COVID-19. Even among those never hospitalized, 43% still had persistent symptoms. This is a massive population-level impact.

In this study, subjects were given a new drug called IMC-2, which is a combination of the herpesvirus antiviral drug valcyclovir and celexoxib, an anti-inflammatory which is believed to also have antiviral properties.
IMC-2 was successful in reducing long COVID symptoms, both alone and in combination with Paxlovid
A recent study published in Frontiers found that 7.7% of US healthcare workers have LongCOVID, causing high levels of burnout, depression and anxiety.
Additionally, long Covid/PASC is implicated in up to 15% of unfilled jobs, highlighting its significant impact on workforce participation.
SARS-CoV-2 drives chronic inflammation and fibrosis that stiffens musculoskeletal tissues, weakening their biomechanical integrity.
This increases injury risk post-COVID, demanding cautious, tissue-aware rehab protocols.
Long COVID myopathy is a mitochondriopathic disease, not deconditioning—driven by viral sabotage, chronic inflammation, & impaired muscle repair.
Its hallmark symptoms stem from cellular energy collapse, demanding a shift in clinical treatment paradigms.
“Long COVID & viral persistence - new evidence A new study detected a peptide fragment specific to SARS-CoV-2 nsp3 in blood extracellular vesicles (EVs) from Long COVID patients - months to years after infection. Let’s unpack why this matters.”
City Doctors Blame ‘Long Covid’ For Severe Viral Infections That Have Laid Kolkata Low
A past history of ‘long or severe' Covid may have led to long-term weakening of respiratory and immune functions, making thousands in the city more vulnerable to recurrent infections, say doctors.
The gastrointestinal tract is a central driver of Long COVID pathogenesis, w/ SARS-CoV-2 infecting intestinal cells and causing inflammation, microbiome dysbiosis, and more.
Persistent viral reservoirs in the gut lead to systemic and metabolic disruption.
