Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures
Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures is an interdisciplinary, refereed academic journal, the mandate of which is to publish research on and to provide a forum for discussion about cultural productions for, by, and about young people. The journal’s scope is international; while Jeunesse has a special interest in Canada, the journal welcome submissions concerning all areas and cultures. Jeunesse is especially interested in the cultural functions and representations of "the child." This can include children's and young adult literature and media; young people's material culture, including toys; digital culture and young people; historical and contemporary constructions, functions, and roles of "the child" and adolescents; and literature, art, and films by children and young adults. Jeunesse welcome articles in both English and French.

The youth age category is from 15 to 35 years. We publish literature written by Africans in this age category and by other older individuals who are writing with African youths in mind, whether the writers are resident on the continent or in the diaspora.

In 1977, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Simmons opened the Center for the Study of Children's Literature (CSCL). Today, the CSCL continues its mission to support and advance the study of children's and young adult literature through nationally recognized programs and partnerships. In addition to its Summer Institute in Children's Literature, the CSCL hosts the Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards ceremony and "The Horn Book at Simmons" colloquium that examines the winners and honor books in the contexts of publishing, education, library services, and popular culture.
