What Aser Reveals About Quality Of Learning In India’s Rural Schools
The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2018 has once again highlighted the prevalence of learning deficit in elementary schools across India. The report shows that Indian students, especially those studying in Classes 1-8, are not learning enough and that a vast majority of these students lack basic reading and arithmetic skills. However, the data reflects some positives as well including the record 97.2% enrollment of children living in rural areas and a marginal improvement of girls from rural areas attaining elementary education. The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2023, titled ‘Beyond Basics’, was released recently by Pratham NGO. ASER is a nationwide citizen-led household survey that provides a snapshot of the status of children’s schooling and learning in rural India. The 2023 survey was conducted in 28 districts across 26 states, reaching a total of 34,745 youth in the age group 14-18 years. The report states that about 25% of this age group still cannot read a standard II-level text fluently in their regional language. It stated that female students are less likely to be enrolled in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) stream (28.1%) than males (36.3%). Close to 90% of all youth have a smartphone in the household and a majority of them use it for entertainment purposes with little knowledge about online safety. #aser #educationreport #currentaffairs #nextias #latestnews #upsc #nextiascurrentaffairs #upsccurrentaffairs 👉Important Links 🔸GS + CSAT Pre cum Mains Foundation Course: https://bit.ly/43zOxeR 🔸Optional Foundation Courses: https://bit.ly/43uJlZD 🔸Advance Integrated Mentorship (AIM) Program: https://bit.ly/43zHJ0R 🔸Mains Test Series(MTS): https://bit.ly/45CRn4o 🔸Daily Current Affairs & Editorial Analysis: https://bit.ly/3t0WZnu 👉Important YouTube Playlist Links 🔸Headlines of the Day - https://bit.ly/3oYnHuo 🔸News & Views - https://bit.ly/nextiasnewsandviews 🔸Topic of the Day | Latest Updates - https://bit.ly/3Ai3d6D 🔸Open session on UPSC Optional - https://bit.ly/3zVdUKZ 🔸Places in News - https://bit.ly/3QVSPqH 🔸UPSC CSE 2022 Mock interview - https://bit.ly/3WDiNTJ 🔸UPSC CSE 2022 Toppers Talk - https://bit.ly/topperstalk2022 👉Follow us on 🔸YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/nextias 🔸Telegram: https://t.me/nextiasofficial 🔸Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nextias 🔸Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NEXTIASMADEEASY 🔸Twitter: https://twitter.com/NEXTIAS_Delhi 🔸Quora: https://www.quora.com/profile/Next-IAS-1 Copyright Disclaimer Under section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, education, and research. ASER 2020 is the first ever phone-based ASER survey. Conducted in September 2020, the sixth month of national school closures, the survey explores provision of and access to distance education mechanisms, materials and activities for children in rural India, and the ways in which children and families are engaging with these remote learning alternatives from their homes. This large-scale effort was made possible by 1,500 volunteers. Come, let's take a look at what they had to say about their experiences of the survey and how children have remarkably adjusted to changes in their environment!
