The power of believing that you can improve | Carol Dweck | TED @imust
Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? A great introduction to this influential field. Paul Tough: "How Children Succeed - The Hidden Power of Character" @imust
Paul Tough, author of "How Children Succeed" addresses the challenge for educators to provide their students with a different set of skills, which are necessary to succeed in life. People's thinking about education has often been misguided by emphasising "intelligence" as a prerequisite to success, often measured by passing standardised tests. According to Paul Tough, this is a wrong strategy to best develop skills and abilities of children. Instead, educators should focus on training and improving their students' non-cognitive skills like creativity, persistence, curiosity, conscientiousness, self-control and optism to equip them best for life. In his special address, he reports from a number of case studies and examples how teachers can foster and nurture these essential skills in children.
