5 Tips on How to beat Leo as May | Guilty Gear Strive May Guide
Hey guys,
New series I'm starting here! It goes over 5 tips on how to beat Leo as May in Guilty Gear Strive.
If you guys have any suggestions on what characters I should do next, comment down below!
Thanks!
I've found this weird interaction (by accident), if you do j.k the Leo's DP whiff for some reason, but it only works on a specific knockdown#GGST_MI pic.twitter.com/6THbpmmlrA— Mara (@Mara_ara_) October 23, 2021
I guess i'll tag ##GGST_NA and #GGST_PO since this tech will be useful for Nago and Pot players. You can now FD Leo's crossup and throw him out before any button. He needs to backdash to bait this.— Andre Carvalho (@avbcarvalho) October 15, 2021

So vs Leo.
In general when I can't get a cS 2H 236[P] because I don't have a minion, I'll instead just to cS 6H to get the most distance possible between us, because being close to Leo without a minion is quite rough.
In general I notice you use a lot of grabs during pressure, which is great since grab is a natural deterrent to flash kick. However I noticed on wakeup there were a few times where it looked like you were attempting to bait it by simply walking back when you had 50 meter. I -HIGHLY- suggest learning the grab~PRC OS (grab no RC on hit, grab PRC on wiff) to really make Leo's lifes rough on defense, as it eliminates flashkick and backdash as answers and puts them only on jump, and honestly leo isn't -that- happy in the air against our 6H and 6P.
I noticed when you tended to use Goon Armor super was after a blocked tossed minion, when one of their largest strengths in this MU is their ability to eat up Leo projectiles while inbetween the two of you. In general (in my experience) Jack-O gains meter faster than leo in this MU because she gets to "do" more things which means that you'll get to reach cheer or armor first and then use that to cage the gorilla, I see a lot of your meter being jD~PRC in response to him doing crossup~PRC to get under you, but I feel like that meter could've been spent pre-emptively rather than reactively in those cases with one of those two. (I notice there's actually a few matches where you use amor cheer and you tend to control the entire pace those matches)
You used FED well and plenty and I def highly rec in this MU so no more comments there.
I think final one is you mentioned damage optimiation, but I noticed you're missing it on all your CH 2Ds. In these it felt like you had an autopilot 236K on your 2Ds after when CH 2D can go into 160+
I saw you did CH 2D nothing sometimes in what appeared to try to burst bait but if they burst instantly 2D doesn't recover in time anyway to bait.
[11:04 AM]
On 236K 236[P] on block I noticed your most common choice was IABD~Toss which gets caught in hit/block by leo doing instant projectile which this guy did a lot. I didn't notice much upback jD~jK or jD jS (which while vulnerable to immediate flashkick, he wasn't repping that option there, so if you get him to showcase flashkick after 236K on block IMO that's a win because then you can start doing things like 236K 236[P]~Backdash and make it wiff, etc.
[11:04 AM]
Another one is 236K 236[P] 236K
[11:05 AM]
Should beat anything 10f or slower IIRC?
[11:06 AM]
But also, Leo is just really strong this patch

I really gotta work both cheer and grab PRC OS into my gameplay.

Grab PRC OS is literally busted and there's 0 reason to not do it

Updated left/right safe jump mixup. I've been testing from throw for match-ups like Leo. Made each options more ambiguous by dashing really close to the ground. Feels like it might be consistent #GGST_MI pic.twitter.com/zg2EXuxI5x— Draik (@DraikPD) September 21, 2021

DP - Dragon punch: A powerful rising uppercut attack that is great for anti-air and is usually invincible, making it great for reversal attacks. A dragon punch, or "DP" as it is commonly abbreviated, is a big catch-all term for any motion attack (usually a DP motion) that sees the character attack towards the air with their fist, usually leaving their feet.

Leo Whitefang is the game's first stance character with a well-rounded kit. This character will catch you off guard with her hard-hitting mixups from left or right. Here's how to fight Leo Whitefang in Guilty Gear Strive

You know how this goes since you clicked the link. If you dont the video is broken down in pretty much two sections. Understanding his gatlings and his special moves, then explaining how to punish pretty much everything we can in order to get whatever damage we can. I tried to simplify the process of using common sequences and strings just to special moves because of the way Leo's gatlings are setup. So there isn't any specific tell that you can look for but I still try to go in as deep as possible to cover all bases.

Glack “The Afromancer” um #BlackLivesMatter on Twitter
More on RPS, practicing safer OKI setups on Leo. Keepaway is extremely powerful vs Leo, so 5HS is great. It is disjointed, so it will clash with DP. If done meaty, it can be safe, but wont beat DP. 5HS also beats 5P on clash. Here are some basic RPS situations. #GGST_FA #GGST_LE pic.twitter.com/KqXBIlMEcU— Glack “The Afromancer” um #BlackLivesMatter (@Glackum1) September 6, 2021
