I finally found out what these things are that look like little flat footballs made of dust laying around my house. Moth larvae cases!

They don't carry disease, they disappeared for forty years, and everyone is freaked out about them. And that's actually all we know.

"Because the larvae in the cheese can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in) when disturbed, diners hold their hands above the sandwich to prevent the maggots from leaping into their eyes."

They can flip themselves into the air a bunch of centimeters by snapping their jaws. This video is wonderful.
