Lori Dorn: The Steve Miller Band Song 'The Joker' Remixed to Put the Iconic 'Wolf Whistle' in the Song After Every Line (Laughing Squid)
Web developer Matthew McVickar has quite amusingly remixed the classic Steve Miller Band song “The Joker” so that the iconic “wolf whistle” that takes place after the line “Some people call me Maurice” occurs after every line in the song itself. This little edit appears to make the song a bit more provocative than it already is.

Philip Sherburne: The 19 Best Earbuds for Every Budget (Pitchfork)
Philip Sherburne asked for my opinion on earbuds for this article, and here it is! The Jabra Elite 65t is the current entry-level model, offering 5 hours of battery life (or up to 15 with the charging case), Bluetooth 5.0, wind noise reduction on calls, and three sizes of molded tips; it’s also rated IP55 waterproof. “I’ve used the Jabra Elite 65t daily for a few years,” says Portland, Oregon, web developer Matthew McVickar. “They’re considerably cheaper than AirPods and sound great, but the essential difference for me is that you can control volume, track skipping, and the hear-through—which amplifies the outside sound for better environmental awareness—with the on-earbud buttons.”

Portland, Oregon, web developer Matthew McVickar says, “I have yet to find a pair of over-ear headphones that don't feel uncomfortable with glasses after more than half an hour or so, but I love the Sony MDR 7506.”

The Sound of Everything
The Sound of Everything
Every Noise at Once is an ongoing attempt at an algorithmically-generated, readability-adjusted scatter-plot of the musical genre-space, based on data tracked and analyzed for 2,923 genres by Spotify as of 2019-04-16. The calibration is fuzzy, but in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier. Clones of the Queen is the selected artist for 'Hawaiian Indie.' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Leigh Cuen: ConsenSys-Backed Civil Tries Again on Newsroom Token Launch (Coindesk)
The ConsenSys-backed ethereum startup Civil is launching its CVL token today to kickstart an ambitious journalism project. I got quoted in this: Popula’s freelance designer, Matt McVickar, told CoinDesk the crypto tips feature was still under development and is “certainly not ready for wider adoption yet.”

KATU: SNL-affiliated 'Portlandia' filmed, premiered in NE Portland
The world premier of a new television series about our city was held Friday night at the Hollywood Theatre—just blocks away from where the set-up sketch for the series was filmed. This sketch was filmed at Northeast Portland's San Da Roda apartments (Note: As of Sunday the San Da Roda apartments are fully rented. Also note, with fair warning, the sketch shows a man in patriotic underwear.)

I was not familiar with Clones of the Queen prior to this show, and unfortunately didn’t have time to preview their work in recent weeks, so had no idea what to expect. In short, the Honolulu band was amazing. Really love their sound and they rock it live. The funny thing is that their singer, Ara, at one point deep into their set remarked that she was nervous. Honestly, I thought they really belonged up on that big stage and never would have known had she not talked about her experience while performing at the Arena.

Eric Harvey: Matthew McVickar — Favorite Sounds of 2012 (marathonpacks)
Matthew isolates individual moments from songs released this past year, and then very briefly explains why he likes these moments while allowing you to hear them. On one hand, he’s an electronic music composer himself, so he knows what he’s talking about in technical terms. On the other hand, it’s a very personal peek into the nooks and crannies of a music fan’s brain—what those things are that made him go “eh?” other than a cool chorus or a lyric segment. On the third hand (I have three hands, it helps with chores), a lot of these are just cool sounds. Listen and follow along.
