Chris Coyier: CSS Animation Libraries (CSS-Tricks)
Chris Coyier: CSS Animation Libraries (CSS-Tricks)
There are an awful lot of libraries that want to help you animate things on the web. These aren't really libraries that help you with the syntax or the technology of animations, but rather are grab-and-use as-is libraries. Want to apply a class like "animate-flip-up" and watch an element, uhhh, flip up? These are the kind of libraries to look at. I wholeheartedly think you should both 1) learn how to animate things in CSS by learning the syntax yourself and 2) customize animations to tailor the feel to your site. Still, poking around libraries like this helps foster ideas, gets you started with code examples, and might form a foundation for your own projects.

Thread by @modernserf: "I know a lot of people identify with this article but the divide that this article presents makes zero sense to me"
Discussing the CSS-Tricks article ‘The Great Divide’ (https://css-tricks.com/the-great-divide/) that discusses the difference between ‘full-stack’ and ‘front-end’ developers. I think my main problem with this article might be that its core premise is accurate -- the job market for frontend developers undervalues skills around markup, a11y, UX -- but it _reinforces_ the divide, rather than challenging it

Dudley Storey: 5 Powerful Tips and Tricks for Print Style Sheets
Print continues to be treated somewhat cursorily by most Web designers, who tend to be obsessed with pixels rather than printers. In the real world, a significant portion of people rely on pages printed from websites for reference: there’s still something about having a physical sheet of paper in one’s hands, even in this age of digital saturation.

Ends and means
This is about whether it’s okay to create collateral damage by deliberately denying people access to web features in order to further a completely separate agenda. This isn’t about you or me. This is about all those people who could potentially become makers of the web. We should be welcoming them, not creating barriers for them to overcome.

Mat Marquis: `text-rendering: optimizeLegibility` is Decadent and Depraved
Mat Marquis: `text-rendering: optimizeLegibility` is Decadent and Depraved
TL;DR: Using `text-rendering: optimizeSpeed` can do a lot for performance. All this typographic power came with a cost: text-rendering: optimizeLegibility is slow—and by “slow,” I mean that it can bog down an entire page, from initial render time to repaints. More than that, though, it’s buggy: Android in particular has serious issues trying to render a page that uses optimizeLegibility heavily, especially the older versions that are still, sadly, very common today.
