Take Action To Make A Measurable Difference To An Energy, Environmental Or Food Problem Facing The World! Students take action from grassroots to global, on an energy, environment or food-related issue of their choice. By starting small with things they can actually do, they measure the difference they made, and scale it up, ultimately connecting it to global issues. They 'sell' their action and issue with an ad campaign, using their own pictures, clips and infographics as well as their online research. This manageable, playful project engages students and gives them the skills and initiative to take action and make a real difference. A great time to kick off the Take Action Project is on Earth Day – April 22nd. There will be all kinds of news around actions to take at this time of year and can sync up nicely with an Open House. This project is designed to have a structure compatible with implementing PBL in the classroom. NextLesson projects include certain key components that facilitate an authentic PBL experience.

How Is A Spacecraft Engineered To Safely Land On The Moon? Exploration provides the foundation of our knowledge, technology, resources, and inspiration. It seeks answers to fundamental questions about our existence, responds to recent discoveries and puts in place revolutionary techniques and capabilities to inspire our nation, the world and the next generation. Landing safely and learning to live on the Moon or other planetary bodies would give us a head start in exploring Mars and other destinations in the solar system. In this project, students assume the role of NASA aerospace engineers, using the engineering design process to learn steps for designing, creating, and improving equipment. They design and build a shock-absorbing system that protect two marshmallow “astronauts” when they land. By doing so, they come to understand some of the challenges of lunar landings. This project is designed to have a structure compatible with implementing PBL in the classroom. NextLesson projects include certain key components that facilitate an authentic PBL experience.

Taking Notes By Hand May Be Better Than Digitally, Researchers Say : NPR
Researchers Pam Mueller and Daniel M. Oppenheimer found that students remember more via taking notes longhand rather than on a laptop. It has to do with what happens when you're forced to slow down.
