Analyzes the complex relationship between psychiatric illnesses and cardiovascular disorders (CVDs). CVDs are the leading cause of mortality according to WHO. Psychiatric disorders are also one of the leading causes of morbidity in the world. There are many similarities as both are chronic illnesses, CVDs being found to be 1.5-2 times higher in pts with mental illness. Psychiatric illness increases the risk of many chronic illnesses; diabetes, obesity, COPD, and substance abuse often due to side effects of psychotropic medications. Discusses mood disorders; depression/anxiety/BAD, SUD, schizophrenia, and effects of CVDs.
