We need separate systems, one for actually learning without financial pressure, and one for joining the workforce - before anyone brings up College/Uni as the solution, they can be if transformed but as of right now there are too many in Uni doing so to get a job.
When you have a system organized around the morality of work and not working ostracizes you from society, health care, shelter, food security, etc, what do you expect? My wish is the next 20 years brings a post scarcity society where wage slaving for a corporation so your family doesn’t die if they get cancer isn’t so much a moral imperative.
We should also dramatically realign the education system to value real learning, personal and community growth, and a culture of learning rather than just daycare (not that childcare for parents isn’t tremendously important, believe me), funding zillions of BS college admin positions, job training for corporations that are to cheap to train their own employees, and grades (as we know them. Grades have so much nonsense loaded on top of them

Between the Iheartradio fake podcast listeners story, Facebook getting publications to pivot to video with fake data, and now this story about WB HBO max cooking the books… kinda feels like our entire attention economy is built like a ponzi scheme and all this shit is made up— Jacqueline (DJ Horse Jeans) (@Horse_Jeans) September 28, 2022

more generally, there is a deceitful suggestion that the critique of productivism or even industrialization is inherently reactionary or 'primitivist'. i understand it to be a critique of the abstraction of nature into value, a process which notably did not cease under AES— arne ness (@arne__ness) March 12, 2024

In the meantime, there is concern about the cancer spreading. If that happens, a transplant will no longer be an option." / X

Carole, a cancer patient and single parent, was denied a previously approved double lung transplant by Cigna right before the surgery, causing public outrage and leading to a promised appeal by her doctors alongside a social media campaign urging Cigna to reverse their decision.

History degrees are superbly transferable - you learn how to write, how to argue, how to critique, how to reframe, how to read, how to be empathetic to other perspectives, and how to understand why the world is as it is. Efficiency and tech advancement could be prioritized if we had a societal structure that didn’t require people to work in order to obtain access to basic resources required to stay alive such as healthcare, housing, and food. We prioritize jobs bc we lack a social safety net. https://t.co/UjqxrC1LXE— Jen Bartel (@heyjenbartel) June 21, 2023

you know what? nobody was going into comics expecting to make boatloads of money. but people are allowed to have dreams, ambitions, & to be a little starry eyed at the beginning. those are human emotions. fuck out of here with your little "well that's just capitalism" smug shit https://t.co/omXEA0Jrfn— wendy xu 🤖 preorder INFINITY PARTICLE! This line is thought is terrifying. education becoming debt-exploding prep for a job that likely won’t use your degree anyway is one of the worst things to ever happen. The liberal arts expand the mind, deepen our appreciation of culture, and train us for how to see and live life https://t.co/PWvbE5Zmec— Brendan Hodges (@metaplexmovies) May 21, 2023

“I have zero context how or why this lovely, delicate animation was approved by leadership. But I'm 98% certain it wasn't pitched with business impact jargon. Instead someone probably advocated hard for delight — or simply showed leadership what sheer delight feels like.”

to save some nickels Hertz mindlessly reported 1000s of cars stolen a year and got dozens of people arrested and jailed. Their punishment is to settle a lawsuit, none of the Hertz execs responsible for ruining lives and getting people kidnapped and caged will see a day in prison https://t.co/jwlKu7dZcv— Adam H. It is really sad to me that Apple needs to start taking Casino Game Ad Money in order to make their line go up for the shareholders. When Steve introduced iAds and the whole pitch was, "These ads aren't garbage, you'll like these ads." This department shouldn't exist at all, imho https://t.co/VHOeryW5Ro— Cabel (@cabel) October 25, 2022

The sad part here is, whether we like it or not, we’ve all been lumped into “average” by merely having the option btwn 2 choices. There is no OS for the design-oriented person or the minimalist or the tinkerer. None of us are “average” and thus all let down in our own way.— Andy Allen (@asallen) October 17, 2022

Last Friday, CBS cancelled a segment about our clients suing Amazon for selling suicide kits to their now deceased kids. CBS’ cowardice gave me renewed clarity about how urgent this litigation is. 🧵@naomi_leeds 1/— Carrie Goldberg (@cagoldberglaw) October 6, 2022
