while I realize it’s a huge compliment, i’m endlessly fucking annoyed by being told i’m “this generation’s Kate Bush”. SHE is our generation’s Kate Bush, she is an active artist who’s topping the charts, and is irreplaceable. I, meanwhile, am this generation’s Caroline Polachek.
Hey libs, I just turned on all of my gas stoves (5) and didn't even light them, hope you're not too triggered! Feeling really sleepy so might take a quick nap, but just so we're clear, you'll have to pry them from my cold
Jennifer Coolidge’s speech was perfect:
“I had such big dreams as a young person, but what happens is they get sort of fizzled by life. Mike White, you gave me a new beginning, even though this is the end, 'cause you did kill me off. Even if this is the end, you changed my life” https://t.co/pHNPAhhQpj
That video of a man spraying a homeless person with a hose is one of the most disturbing things I've seen. When we dehumanize the homeless for their poverty we not only create the conditions for them to be hurt, we also equate human-ness with wealth, which is immensely dangerous.
THE LAST OF US: i'm super invested in these games. one of the precious few things i'm truly a *fan* of. was optimistic about the show because of the people involved, but naturally skeptical of retelling this story. i've seen the whole first season and… they fucking NAILED it.
I had emailed a senior Harvard prof to register for his course. After initially ok-ing it he suddenly emailed that I shouldn't reg. He had creepily googled me, found my *personal website* and barred me on its basis. Just another day of being discriminated as a woman of color here https://t.co/ZcEhY3lJOl
College professor here: This is utter bullshit. You know nothing about any of this. Maybe listen and learn rather than comfortably pretending you know things. That’s what college actually teaches. https://t.co/WIUtkfIfCf
This is the generational self-praise genre, where one slags off the "youth of today" in a way that's meant to reflect one's own virtue ("in my day we had saber duels, and loved it").
A amusing, and un-self-aware riff on "resilience" follows.

Man, shut the fuck up. This is the stupidest shit from someone who only has an abstract concept of college developed from reading the same nonsensical articles about safe spaces or cancel culture. How could you be this boring? Doesn’t it hurt? https://t.co/kwZkNnXoQW
There is nothing more predictable than people bemoaning the failings of younger generations as they get older. The obviousness of the “kids these days” cliche seems to do little to discourage it. https://t.co/3KokM9rpEu
@sama This just seems like a narrative designed to get people to agree with it, though. Like "things used to be so much harder in our day," etc. Everybody says, "yeah, yeah, he's right," but where's the data to back this up? It's a story - maybe true for some, but definitely not all.
@sama There are more elements to this — including the cost of living.
Expecting the newer generation to take similar risks as the previous founders did by starting a venture which can initially lower or reset their income despite the crazy housing costs (i.e. Canada) is challenging.
