The Psychosocial Impact of Rheumatic Conditions
Free Download The Psychosocial Impact of Rheumatic Conditions: Caring for the Whole Patient English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031953371 | 134 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 7 MB This book focuses on a holistic approach to providing care to patients with rheumatic illnesses that goes beyond the biomedical approach to include the psycho-social and cultural needs of patients. A diagnosis of a chronic rheumatic illness can dramatically affect all aspects of a person's life. These life-altering conditions are characterized by physical pain and inflammation that may reduce or impair functioning of one or more parts of the musculoskeletal system and in some cases impact other organs throughout the body. Often accompanying these physical manifestations of the rheumatic illness are the psychological and social aspects that affect one's overall health and quality of life. Due to the chronicity of many rheumatic illnesses, managing and coping with the illness is often an ever-evolving process that can span throughout the developmental spectrum or lifespan of the patient experience. A strictly biomedical approach to the treatment of rheumatic illnesses often fails to address these key aspects of the patients' overall well-being. A more comprehensive approach, inclusive of the bio-psycho-social-cultural lens, with the patient's voice at its core, is needed to inform and ultimately deliver quality patient care and achieve optimal health outcomes.

Thompson, "The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967 " English | ISBN: 0345377966 | 1998 | 720 pages | AZW3 | 2 MB Here, for the first time, is the private and most intimate correspondence of one of America's most influential and incisive journalists-Hunter S. Thompson. In letters to a Who's Who of luminaries from Norman Mailer to Charles Kuralt, Tom Wolfe to Lyndon Johnson, William Styron to Joan Baez-not to mention his mother, the NRA, and a chain of newspaper editors-Thompson vividly catches the tenor of the times in 1960s America and channels it all through his own razor-sharp perspective. Passionate in their admiration, merciless in their scorn, and never anything less than fascinating, the dispatches of The Proud Highway offer an unprecedented and penetrating gaze into the evolution of the most outrageous raconteur/provocateur ever to assault a typewriter.

Free Download Donald G. Reinertsen, "The Principles of Product Development Flow: Second Generation Lean Product Development" English | ISBN: 1935401009 | 2009 | 304 pages | AZW | 3 MB "...the dominant paradigm for managing product development is wrong. Not just a little wrong, but wrong to its very core." So begins Reinertsen in his meticulous examination of today's product development practices. He carefully explains why invisible and unmanaged queues are the underlying root cause of poor product development performance. He shows why these queues form and how they undermine the speed, quality, and efficiency in product development. Then, he provides a roadmap for changing this. The book provides a well-organized set of 175 underlying principles in eight major areas. He shows you practical methods to: Improve economic decisions Manage queues Reduce batch size Apply WIP constraints Accelerate feedback Manage flows in the presence of variability Decentralize control The Principles of Product Development Flow will forever change the way you think about product development.

We breathe, smell and taste with it. Smells warn us of dangers, and scents can awaken memories and feelings. All without including the mind. The nose decides who we find seductive or who we simply can't smell. We often only realize how important smell is when illnesses like corona rob us of this sense.

The Power of Imagination Shaping Our Future
Free Download The Power of Imagination: Shaping Our Future English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031905822 | 433 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 4.4 MB This book provides an overview of imagination and its role for survival in a complex, high-intensity environment. More than this, this book aims, ambitiously, to inspire imagination. It establishes that imagination is neither abstract nor frivolous, but a technique, a skill, and a discipline that one must embrace to facilitate the transformation of both society and oneself. Whether facing contemporary challenges like climate change, social and political crises, or grappling with the complexities posed by artificial intelligence, machine learning, or transhumanism, imagination seems to be what is lacking in order both to endure and to build. Often reduced to the realm of artists, imagination is a unique value added by humankind, one that can envision a way of creating new worlds. In this book, the imagination becomes a spiritual exercise aimed at rethinking our ways of life in order to establish both a new construction of oneself and society. Researchers and general readers alike will find much in this call to imagine how other worlds might be possible.

Free Download The Power Trap: How Leadership Changes People, and What to Do About It English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031906810 | 140 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 2.5 MB We have an entirely messed-up relationship with power. It is something that almost everyone wants, that promises much and can help us achieve great things. Yet power isn't something we openly talk about or understand, and that's a problem. While power is an essential part of every leadership role, it is also a difficult and sometimes toxic partner that changes everyone who holds it. And often, in ways that make being a good leader much harder.

Its success was the result of a concerted effort by the leaders of the Benedictine Reform movement to encourage both widespread literacy and a simple literary style. The manuscripts written in this era are the source for the majority of the Old English literature that survives today, including literary classics such as Beowulf. Yet the same monks who copied and compiled these important Old English texts themselves wrote in a rarified Latin, full of esoteric vocabulary and convoluted syntax and almost incomprehensible even to the well-educated.

Free Download The Political Psychology of Populism: Trump, Putin, and the Roots of Humiliation English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031943279 | 198 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 2 MB This book examines the underlying social pathology of Trump and Putin's political orientations. The assault on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, and Russia's war on Ukraine in February 2022 both reveal a disturbing drift towards new forms of populism. Drawing on the theoretical insights of Sigmund Freud and Norbert Elias regarding the impulses of the masses and the social trauma triggered by the quest for lost origins, Trump and Putin's populist policies are revealed in a new light: shaped by love and hate, feeding on the frustrations and resentments of the masses, the two figures-and their followers-are driven to violence. For these leaders violence even fuels belief in a renewal of democracy-a democracy by the people and for the people, at the service of the masses. It is based on the idea that a single, pure truth is the source of appeasement and well-being that excludes outsiders. The book is a continuation of work previously published with Palgrave (The politics of destruction) and is the result of several years of interdisciplinary research and a dialogue between psychoanalysis and the social sciences.

Free Download Brian Jones, "Geology of the Cayman Islands: Evolution of Complex Carbonate Successions on Isolated Oceanic Islands" English | ISBN: 303108229X | 2022 | 304 pages | EPUB | 408 MB Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac are, in reality, the summits of independent fault blocks that rise from the depths of the Caribbean Sea. This book traces the geological evolution of these islands over the last 30 to 35 million years. The balance between deposition of carbonate sediments and karst development of the exposed land was dictated by the interaction between ever-changing sea levels and vertical tectonic movement of the fault blocks. Today, drinking water needed for the ever-increasing populations of the islands is supplied largely by desalinization plants that are located in accord with a detailed knowledge of the bedrock.

It has the particularity of proposing an in-depth synthesis and a critical review of the geoheritage of the region. The book addresses the issues related to geoheritage and methodologies for the selection, inventory, assessment and preservation of geosites. It reviews the state of the art of geoheritage in Morocco, particularly in the Middle Atlas, in order to identify geosites with rare and unique geological features. The book presents a detailed study of lithostratigraphic and sedimentological heritage as geosites witnessing at different spatial and temporal scales the evolution and the stratigraphic, sedimentological and paleogeographic history of the Middle Atlas range. It also presents the paleontological heritage of vertebrates by reviewing the discoveries of paleontological sites and their risks in order to present its conservation plans. It also addresses the hydricand fluvial heritage by presenting the potential of water resources and the impact of climate change on the latter. Furthermore, it highlights the karst heritage by exposing an inventory of exo- and endokarst geosites in order to emphasize some unique sites on a national and African scale as well as revealing the underground biodiversity related to this heritage. Finally, it proposes a presentation of the volcanic heritage in order to assess the volcanic geosites that testify to the strombolian, phreatomagmatic and Hawaiian dynamism of the region.

Brunn, "Geography of Time, Place, Movement and Networks, Volume 2: Mapping Heritage Journeys and Sameness" English | ISBN: 3031580281 | 2024 | 366 pages | EPUB | 67 MB This book explores journeys in a time context with a focus on places, place meanings, and landscapes. Whether the journey relates to ancient or modern trails, roads, or railroads, or a historical or contemporary pilgrimage or a tourist venture in social contexts, the book addresses the importance of places and environmental settings, whereby time itself is described and defined in multiple contexts. The chapters discuss among others archaeological and pre-history settings, tourism settings, and heritage events, as well as regional and transnational migration routes and those used by historical nomadic cultures and postmodern nomads. Some time and place journeys are fluid and dynamic and re-interpreted while for others there is much "sameness" in the visible landscapes. Retaining the past and reconstructing the past are both journeys. That sameness concept is also applied to cultural and political worlds where there is little progress or reform to address social welfare and empowerment. This book opens the door for exploring shallow and deep journeys by those in the humanities and social sciences at local, national, and regional scales.

Free Download Stéphane Sadoux, "Gentrification and the Media: Building and Propagating Discourses on Exclusive Urban Change " English | ISBN: 9463720995 | 2025 | 294 pages | PDF | 3 MB Gentrification is extensively discussed in the media, where coverage can describe changing neighbourhoods and analyse the causes and consequences of such change. The media are also arenas in which the voices of those who advocate or resist gentrification can be heard. How can this profusion of content be examined? What methods can be used to critically address the role of the media in constructing and propagating discourses on gentrification? Central to this book is the idea that new research should engage with the theoretical and methodological issues that emerge when media products are used as a corpus to study gentrification. This edited volume considers a range of means that are used to shape and publicize representations: contributions investigate printed and online newspapers, websites, blogs, television programmes and social media. It also aims to highlight the diversity of players who produce and disseminate media discourses on gentrification.
