How to ESCAPE THE CORNER in Guilty Gear Strive
How to ESCAPE THE CORNER in Guilty Gear Strive

Summary of "How to ESCAPE THE CORNER in Guilty Gear Strive" Introduction

The video provides strategies for escaping the corner in Guilty Gear Strive, focusing on techniques suitable for players who do not have a Dragon Punch (DP) move.

For characters with a DP, escaping the corner is simpler due to the invincible nature of DPs, but the video goes on to explain alternative methods for those without one.

Chunk 1: Super Jump

Concept: To escape the corner, the key move to utilize is the super jump, not a normal jump.

Why Super Jump?:

Super jumps reach higher than normal jumps, putting the opponent at a disadvantage since most of their attacks do not reach this height unless they chase.

Normal jumps can be easily punished, especially by characters like Milia, whose attacks have high upward reach.

Practical Example: Super jumping helps avoid getting caught by opponents’ vertical-reaching moves like Milia's close slash.

Actionable Lesson: Always aim to super jump when trying to escape the corner, as it is a safer and more effective option than regular jumping.

Comprehension Questions for Chunk 1

Q1: Why is a super jump more effective than a normal jump in the corner?

A1: Super jumps reach higher and are harder for opponents to punish, unlike normal jumps that can be easily countered.

Q2: When should you use a super jump?

A2: You should always default to super jumping when trying to escape the corner.

Chunk 2: Faultless Defense (FD)

Concept: Faultless Defense (FD) is a defensive technique that increases the pushback of the opponent’s attacks and can help with corner escapes.

Why Use FD?:

FD consumes meter but pushes the opponent away, preventing them from continuing their pressure effectively.

It also changes the frame data, making certain moves less advantageous for the opponent (e.g., making a minus move closer to neutral).

Practical Application:

Safe Jumps: FD during safe jumps to push the opponent further away, giving you space to retaliate.

Dealing with Light Attacks: Use FD against light moves that can chain into knockdowns.

Against Multihit Moves: FD helps create space against moves that hit multiple times, as it pushes the opponent further back, minimizing the pressure.

Example with Soul: Soul’s far slash can be FD’d to reduce its pressure and space out the opponent.

Actionable Lesson: Use FD strategically against safe jumps, light attacks, and multihit moves to create space and defend better.

Comprehension Questions for Chunk 2

Q1: What does Faultless Defense do in Guilty Gear Strive?

A1: FD increases the pushback of attacks, costing meter, and makes certain moves less advantageous for the opponent.

Q2: When should you use FD?

A2: Use FD against safe jumps, light attacks that chain into knockdowns, and multihit moves to gain space.

Chunk 3: Using Air Tools to Stall or Escape

Concept: Once you reach super jump height, many characters have tools to either escape the corner or stall the opponent’s pressure.

Examples:

Soul: Has moves like his air dash and air fireball that can help him escape or stall.

Kai: Has air stage control that can be used for similar purposes.

Milia: Can use her air dashes to evade or maneuver out of tight situations.

Practical Application:

Use these tools to make your opponent guess where you're going next. If they fail to predict correctly, you can escape without further resistance.

Actionable Lesson: Use your character's unique air tools (such as air dashes or special moves) to either escape or stall, forcing your opponent into guessing and making them work harder to stop your escape.

Comprehension Questions for Chunk 3

Q1: What are some examples of air tools used by characters to escape the corner?

A1: Soul uses air dashes and air fireballs; Kai uses air stage; Milia uses air dashes.

Q2: Why is it important to use air tools in the corner?

A2: Air tools can help you escape or stall, making your opponent guess your next move and potentially allowing for an easy escape.

Super-Summary

To escape the corner in Guilty Gear Strive, players should focus on a few key strategies:

Super Jump: Use a super jump to reach higher ground and avoid being punished by attacks with high vertical reach.

Faultless Defense (FD): Use FD to push your opponent away, especially during safe jumps, light attacks, and multihit moves. This creates space and reduces the opponent's frame advantage.

Air Tools: Utilize your character's air mobility or special moves (such as air dashes, air fireballs, or stage control) to stall or escape. This forces the opponent to guess and react, giving you an opportunity to break free.

By consistently applying these techniques, you can improve your corner escape game and put pressure back on your opponent.

Optional Spaced Review Plan

Day 1: Focus on learning when and how to super jump in corner situations.

Day 2: Practice FD usage in safe jumps and against light and multihit attacks.

Day 3: Incorporate your character’s air tools into corner escapes and test how well you can
