Six bodies have been retrieved from the site and taken to the Police Control Room in Srinagar, while 24 police personnel and three civilians were admitted to various hospitals in the city, PTI reported. Small, successive explosions delayed immediate rescue operations by the bomb disposal squad.

YouTubers and social media projected a close race because RJD supporters are vocal, while JDU voters are silent. “Turn off the camera, they talk,” Ray notes. Even factory workers who need jobs chose peace over development: “At least there is peace. We go out at night without fear.” Caste remained important, and along with development schemes, it favoured the NDA.

Voting began at 7 a.m. on Tuesday (November 11, 2025) in Budgam, one of the eight Assembly constituencies across six states and one Union Territory where by-elections are being held amid tight security. The Budgam Assembly segment, along with Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, went to polls to elect new representatives after the seats fell vacant last year.

Besides Budgam and Nagrota, bypolls are also underway in Anta (Rajasthan), Ghatsila (Jharkhand), Jubilee Hills (Telangana), Tarn Taran (Punjab), Dampa (Mizoram), and Nuapada (Odisha).
