The Ultimate Guide to Textured Tile

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/the-ultimate-guide-to-textured-tile

Texture can be both visual and tactile — from color, line, and shape to smooth, rough, fuzzy, and soft. In the world of design, texture is what gives a surface — and a space — layers of intrigue and interest.

There are many types of texture in design — this is a category that extends way beyond upholstery and fabrics. It even includes tile.

From tumbled marble and other natural stones with their soft, timeworn edges to handmade zellige and even tiles with wood texture, textured tile spans a range of materials and styles. What they share is a sense of authenticity — a feeling that the tile has a story to tell.

That’s because when you run your hand across a textured tile, you get a sense for more than just the surface — you feel the organic quality of nature mixed with expert craftsmanship and rich history.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the beauty of textured tile and cover everything you need to know — including what it is, where to use it, installation tips and advice (DIY and professional!), maintenance, and where to find the right textured tile for your space.

What Is Textured Tile?

Textured tile generally refers to any tile with a raised, indented, or irregular plane — anything that adds tactile depth and visual interest beyond a polished, glossy surface.

At Riad Tile, texture often takes the form of natural stone. Our tumbled collections — featuring limestone, marble, Brazilian slate, and Moroccan stone — are all about texture you can see and feel. Each tile bears subtle irregularities, soft edges, and a slightly matte surface that diffuses light in a gentle, organic way.

Types of Textured Tile

There are so many ways that texture can show up in tile. And depending on the material and finish, the look and feel can vary dramatically — from rustic to refined. Here are some of the most common types of textured tile.

Tumbled Natural Stone

Perhaps the most iconic example of textured tile is tumbled stone, which is made by literally tumbling pieces of marble, limestone, or travertine in a drum with water and abrasives.

The result is a soft, weathered surface with rounded edges and a matte finish.

This texture makes stone look as though it’s been worn smooth over centuries, lending instant old-world authenticity and charm.

Moroccan Marble and Limestone: Rich in character, Moroccan marble and limestone reflect the captivating natural tones and textures found in that country. This natural stone is ever-so-versatile; its tumbled quality brings rustic warmth, and its signature veining contributes an earthy refinement that never goes out of style.

Tumbled Marble: A little weathered and distressed yet classically elegant and full of history, tumbled marble tiles stand in contrast to standard honed marble, which is more polished and shinier. That said, this variety of marble adds such a beautiful and soft, natural look to the space of your dreams.

Travertine: Travertine is a type of limestone that can be polished or tumbled. When served up in fluted, cabochon mosaics and oval shapes, the travertine's texture is undeniably impactful and attention-grabbing.

Brazilian Slate: While not tumbled, the Brazilian Slate collection still brings a hint of raw texture. It’s sourced directly from the quarries of Southeast Brazil — a material renowned worldwide for its durability and versatility. Available in black and grey, this slate is a beautiful choice for projects of all sizes and aesthetics.

Handmade Tiles

Handmade tiles convey texture with their organic, imperfect surfaces. Each piece varies slightly in size, thickness, and glaze, which adds movement and depth.

Zellige: Zellige is a type of handmade, authentic Moroccan tile crafted using methods from ancient Moroccan tradition. It’s characterized by its irregularities and imperfections. And this is what gives the tiles their iconic textured look — even in their glazed form.

The tile reflects the subtleties of light and shadow, which only adds to the experience of texture. The unglazed, natural terracotta versions of zellige are less visually reflective, yet they really bring texture to the surface.

Dimensional Tile: Artisan ceramic tiles with dimensional relief patterns are miniature sculptures in their own right. As such, they bring a dose of artistry anywhere they are used. Plus, the range of colors from neutral white textured tiles to saturated shades of blue, pink, and green makes them particularly delightful.

Tiles with Wood Texture

Modern technology has allowed manufacturers to imprint realistic textures onto porcelain and ceramic tiles. Tiles with wood texture combine the warmth of natural grain with the practicality of tile — meaning, it’s waterproof, durable, and low-maintenance. This type of textured tile is particularly popular for spaces like bathrooms, where the desired look may be the warmth of wood, yet the practicality of tile is necessary.

Why Choose Textured Tile?

A textured surface is experiential — it brings an extra layer of visual interest to your space while contributing an organic richness. But it’s not only about how the tile makes your space look; it’s also about how it resonates underfoot as you walk across a bathroom floor — or how it feels as you run your hand across a backsplash's texture or a countertop.

Delivers Character and Warmth

Texture is an instant mood-setter. While smooth finishes can feel too polished at times, textured surfaces add time-honored character and depth. Whether it’s the subtle variation of tumbled stone, the artistic vibe of dimensional tile, or the handcrafted imperfection of white textured tiles, each space becomes unique and inviting as a result.

Offers Grip and Safety

In areas like bathrooms, laundry rooms, and patios, a little textured grip goes a long way. Unlike honed and polished stones — which are glossy and beautiful but can be precarious when wet — textured tile offers a naturally slip-resistant surface. So, it’s ideal for spaces where water enters the equation.

Hides Dirt and Imperfections

Sometimes highly polished tiles — especially in lighter colors — can really show the slightest hint of dirt. Any wear and tear can also be highly apparent over time. Yet, textured finishes tend to disguise dust, footprints, and any natural wear. This is one reason they are especially practical for high-traffic areas like entryways and kitchens — and even spaces like mudrooms.

Brings Design Versatility

Textured tile is really a team player in the world of interior design. It melds beautifully with many aesthetic styles — from traditional to transitional and beyond — and it also matches well with other textures, as well as smooth finishes.

It also serves as an essential tool for creating contrast — an element central to design, especially in modern and contemporary looks. For example, a backsplash tiles’ texture juxtaposed against sleek and smooth quartz counters creates a perfect visual balance.

Design Ideas for Textured Tile

Texture elevates every surface — so whether you’re craving a cozy retreat or a modern statement, textured tile brings a literal and figurative touch that ties everything together.

Riad Tile's Moroccan stone delivers the warmth of nature underfoot, pairing seamlessly with every golden hue in this utility room. The Akal Dark 4"x12"x3/4" Moroccan Limestone (Tumbled and Honed) tile — laid in a herringbone pattern — ensures the floor is not an afterthought but foundational to the design.

Another way to bring the enchantment of tumbled tile to the floor is with Casablanca Carrara marble, which goes with anything and everything. While it integrates with almost any aesthetic, it’s far from ordinary as the intricate grey veining and subtle variations bring the 12"x12" floor tile to life.

How to Install Textured Tile

While you can absolutely install textured tile yourself, it often requires a little more care — and a lot more know-how — than smooth surfaces. The uneven surfaces mean that cutting the tile can be trickier — and that grout can settle differently. So, patience and attention to detail will be paramount for all the DIY weekend warriors who love a project.

As the weather cools and the holidays draw near, home becomes a place to gather and ground. It’s the season for quiet mornings by the fire, evenings spent with friends, and spaces that invite you to linger.

At Riad Tile, we love how tile can transform those moments, adding warmth, texture, and a sense of story to every corner.

The Fireplace: Where Warmth Meets Design

Few features capture the spirit of the season quite like the fireplace. It’s where design and comfort meet, and the right tile can turn this everyday element into something extraordinary.

For a clean, classic look, Snow Zellige makes a luminous fireplace surround. Its handcrafted surface reflects firelight beautifully, adding subtle movement and depth while keeping the palette calm and inviting.

Looking for something with a bit more mood? Emerald Zellige brings a rich, jewel-toned elegance that feels both festive and enduring. Paired with holiday greenery and brass accents, it becomes a focal point that radiates warmth long after the season fades.

For a touch of the unexpected, Apricot Ceramic offers gentle warmth inside the fireplace itself. It adds a soft, sunlit glaze that complements the fire’s glow and brings a hint of color that feels fresh yet timeless.

A Grounded Foundation

Beyond the hearth, material choices shape how a room feels from the ground up.

Bardiglio Grey and Casablanca Carrara marble tiles offer a sophisticated base. Together, the tiles feel effortless beside a glowing tree or candlelit mantle.

The pairing balances cool veining and natural texture, creating a foundation that’s polished yet personal.

Moments Made to Stay

Designing for the holidays isn’t about adding more — it’s about creating warmth in the details. From the handcrafted texture of Zellige to the quiet elegance of marble, these materials tell a story of artistry and connection.

This season, let your home glow a little brighter. Gather near the fire, linger a little longer and create your own cozy spot crafted with care and inspired by Riad Tile.

Behind the Scenes: The Origin of Italian Marble

Behind the Scenes: The Origin of Italian Marble

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/behind-the-scenes-the-origin-of-italian-marble

Beneath the hills of Carrara and deep within the quarries of northern Italy lies the birthplace of some of the world’s most revered stones.

For centuries, Italian marble has shaped architecture, sculpture and design. From Michelangelo’s masterpieces to modern homes, Italian marble remains a symbol of timeless beauty and artistry.

At Riad Tile, our collection of Italian marble tiles — Italian Statuary, Calacatta Gold, and Calacatta Viola — celebrate this enduring legacy. Each stone carries its own story of origin, color and character, yet all share the unmistakable craftsmanship that defines marble made in Italy.

Italian Statuary Marble: The Definition of Timeless Elegance

Quarried in the Carrara region, Italian Statuary marble is known for its crisp white background and delicate gray veining. This stone has long been associated with classical sculpture and architecture, embodying balance, purity and refinement.

In today’s interiors, Statuary marble brings that same sense of harmony. It is perfect for bright, serene kitchens and bathrooms that feel both modern and eternal.

Calacatta Gold Marble: Warmth and Luxury from the Earth

Calacatta Gold marble captures the golden warmth of sunlight in stone. Its creamy base and bold gold veining make it a favorite for designers who want to introduce luxury without losing softness.

Whether used in statement countertops or sweeping marble floors, Calacatta Gold bridges old-world opulence and contemporary sophistication.

Calacatta Viola Marble: Artistry in Every Vein

With its striking purple and burgundy veining, Calacatta Viola marble is bold, dramatic and utterly distinctive. No two slabs are the same, and each piece feels like a natural work of art.

Designers turn to Calacatta Viola when they want a surface that tells a story: expressive, emotional and unforgettable.

From Quarry to Tile: The Art of Italian Craftsmanship

What makes marble from Italy truly exceptional isn’t just its appearance, it’s the process.

Each slab is carefully extracted, cut and polished by craftspeople whose expertise has been passed down for generations. This combination of nature’s artistry and human precision is what transforms raw stone into lasting design.

At Riad Tile, we celebrate that heritage by curating marbles that reflect Italy’s deep design legacy and translate it beautifully for modern living. From the refined elegance of Italian Statuary to the radiant warmth of Calacatta Gold and the artistry of Calacatta Viola, each stone carries the spirit of origin and the soul of true craftsmanship.

Blue Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide
Blue Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

Blue Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/blue-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide

“Something blue” isn’t just for a wedding. When it comes to adding personality and depth — not to mention timeless sophistication — to your home, blue tile is your best friend.

It’s a design choice that hits all the marks and never goes out of style. Whether you’re leaning toward deep navy blue tiles for a moody powder room, shimmering sea blues for a spa-inspired shower, or sky-blue accents for a breezy kitchen backsplash, this versatile color brings both calm and character to any space.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll dive into the deep-blue sea of benefits of blue tile and cover everything you need to know — including how to use this color in your space, cleaning and installation tips, and where to shop the most beautiful, handcrafted blue tiles (Hint: you’ll find them at Riad Tile).

What Exactly Is Blue Tile?

Blue tile can mean many different things. But what you need to know is that the color blue has staying power — and has long been a favorite among interior designers for its soothing yet striking effect.

It can be a power player that delivers calm and collected energy — or amps up the dynamism in a space. In tile form, it’s even more powerful, bringing dimension, light, and vibrancy to a space.

The versatility of blue tiles also means they can align with a coastal-cool mood or an industrial-chic vibe. They can also be bold or minimalist, and classic or modern.

From gorgeous Moroccan Zellige to understated blue stone tile, this hue pairs beautifully with a variety of textures and materials, making it easy to create your own signature look that fits your home’s aesthetic while reflecting your unique design personality.

Types of Blue Tile to Love

Blue tile isn’t just blue.

It’s periwinkle and cyan, denim and navy, indigo and powder. So, when choosing a blue tile, the sky (blue) is the limit. It can be helpful to think about the material, finish, and where you plan to use it as you narrow down your selections.

Riad Tile offers an incredible range of handcrafted options — each one made to elevate your design vision. Here’s a snapshot of a few options you may want to consider:

Zellige Tile: These authentic Moroccan glazed tiles are 100% handcrafted using methods from the ancient tradition and are characterized by their irregularities and imperfections. Versatile tones like Belize Blue and Mediterranean Blue have an organic look, inspired by sea and sky, and catch the light in beautiful, unexpected ways in the kitchen, the bath, and beyond.

Ceramic Tile: One of the perks of blue ceramic tile is the range of options available — from stunning solids in both matte and glossy finishes to statement-making patterns that you can use in a wide variety of applications. It’s also why ceramic blue tile is among the most popular blue tile options on the market!

Cement Tile: Like ceramic tile, cement tile benefits from having bold patterns and richly saturated solids to choose from. It’s an instant dose of personality, whether you use it for a cool-blue kitchen backsplash, a playful blue and white floor tile, a picture-perfect patio, or something else entirely. It’s both fresh and timeless.

Terrazzo: Terrazzo is back in vogue in all its speckled glory — and when this dappled tile puts blue at center stage, the result is pretty dreamy. With 12”x12” and 24”x24” options, terrazzo is a shoo-in for a statement tile.

What Colors Go with Blue Tile?

You may be wondering what color goes with blue tile. The answer is basically any color! Here are some ideas that you may or may not have thought about:

White: When you pair blue with white, it’s classic and clean — making it a perfect fit for minimalist or even nautical- or coastal-inspired designs.

Golds and Brass: By mixing metals with blue tones, you add warmth and panache — a layer of sophistication that elevates a space.

Gray: All the shades of gray were endlessly popular several years ago — and now, by integrating blue tile to the scene, it makes for a sleek, modern pairing.

Natural Woods: Because blue is so prevalent in nature, grounding it with natural wood tones adds organic warmth and creates a harmonious balance — making it especially good for bathrooms and kitchens.

Black: For a high-contrast, high-impact look, black adds boldness to blue — and it is perfect for a contemporary vibe.

The color matches don’t stop here either. As you’ll see in the following examples, the beauty of blue tile is that it’s endlessly versatile and adaptable.

How to Use Blue Tile in Your Home

From deep-sea blues to rich ceruleans, light denims, and punchy patterns, blue tile is so beloved for its incredible flexibility — it can play a strong or subtle role and feels equally at home in blue tile bathroom designs, kitchens, living rooms, and even outdoor spaces.

Here are a few ways to start feeling the blues — in the best way:

Spa-Inspired Bathroom

This isn’t just blue tile; it’s an invitation to escape. If you’re wondering how to decorate a bathroom with blue tile, look no further. Here, Mediterranean Blue 2"x6" Thin Bejmat Zellige Tile creates a calming focal point, allowing you to build a space that feels like the ultimate getaway.

But whether you’re going for spa-inspired serenity or bold boutique-hotel drama, a blue tile bathroom always delivers impact — especially when balanced with warm woods, brass, and creamy white accents.

Shower Goals

How to decorate a bathroom with blue tile — round two — looks a little like that same Belize Blue Zellige that plays a starring role in a shower. As you can see in this stunning blue tile bathroom, this design choice will have your shower thoughts dreaming of far-off, picturesque destinations.

Colorful Kitchen Backsplash

This dreamy casita kitchen sets the stage for warm gatherings and worldly inspiration. While this particular cement pattern has been retired, let this be your inspiration for an accent backsplash or glossy wall tiles in blue patterns. When paired with natural wood tones, it’s such an inviting, modern statement.

Floor Goals

Staring at the floor is totally understandable in this beautiful bathroom, where Blue 2"x8" Cement Tiles command the room — especially since they are organized in a herringbone pattern with white grout. The simplicity of the space exemplifies how pared-back materials can be transformative. You could also consider blue-and-white floor tile pairings for another moment of contrast and impact.

Luscious Laundry Room

The tidal wave of any laundry surge feels slightly more swimmable with a Belize Blue 2"x6" Thin Bejmat Zellige Tile backsplash to keep you company. Folding clothes will never feel like a chore again in this space.

Patio Perfection

Putting a pattern on the floor is such an attention-grabber — in all the right ways. And a patio is the perfect place to push the envelope, if this design choice feels a bit too bold for inside. This Crest Blue & White Ceramic Tile is captivating — and delivers all the right midcentury vibes.

Blue tile patterns like this can also transform a fireplace or feature wall for a focal point that feels both cozy and curated.

Mix-and-Match Moments

Yes, you can mix and match blue tile to your heart’s content. Try different materials, colors, and scales to find a pair of tiles that complement each other and bring your project to life — as seen here with Belize Blue 4"x4" Zellige Tile paired with a Travertine Cabochon Pencil Mosaic and a cerulean-swathed sink. It’s an unlikely but delightful combo.

Counter Intuitive

For a counter that speaks volumes — and looks as delicious as what you’re serving — blue tile works its magic. Go with your gut with this intuitive choice — here, the Belize Blue 4"x4" Zellige Tile is a delight. But, darker navy blue tiles are an excellent choice, too.

Blues-y Bar

Cheers to a bar with great tile. This Aegean Blue 2"x8" Formed Ceramic Tile is a stunner when it comes to a bar façade. Whether you’re at home or at a local brewery, this is precisely the kind of inviting space you’ll want to sidle up to for a drink.

Blue Tile Installation Options

Each type of blue tile will require slightly different installation instructions, but we’re including a guide here for blue ceramic tile — which is one of the more straightforward tile types to install — compared to something like blue stone tile, terrazzo, or Zellige.

DIY Installation for Blue Ceramic Tile

If you’re up for installing blue tiles as a fun and rewarding DIY project — especially for backsplashes or small accent walls tiles in blue — here’s what you need to know.

Recommended Tools and Materials:

Blue ceramic tiles

1/16-inch tile spacers

Level and measuring tape

Thin-set mortar

Notched trowel

Rubber float

Grout release

Grout (unsanded)

Water-cooled tile saw (for cutting tiles)

Installation Guide

  1. Prep Your Surface: Ensure the entire surface — whether it's a subfloor, wall, backsplash, or outdoor area — is dry, level, and free of debris. For floors, you'll want to use a backer board if the subfloor isn't completely flat or moisture-resistant, such as Hardie Backer Board, Durock, or Ditra. Wall tiles can be attached to plaster, drywall, cement block, and cement backer board. Ensure that the installation surface is flat and dry, with any loose paint removed and any cracks filled or patched.

  2. Plan Your Layout: It can be helpful to dry-lay your tiles — especially blue tile patterns — to determine the arrangement you prefer and to minimize any potential mistakes. This is easiest to do with floors, but you can also sketch out how you want your tile to appear on a backsplash or wall.

  3. Apply Thinset Mortar: Once you feel confident in the layout of the tile, you're ready for the actual installation to begin. Use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thinset mortar that's suitable for your tile onto the clean surface, such as Mapei Ultraflex LFT or Lati

The Return of Classic Marble: How Designers Are Reimagining Timeless Stone

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/the-return-of-classic-marble-how-designers-are-reimagining-timeless-stone

Few materials capture the essence of timeless design quite like marble. From the grandeur of ancient architecture to today’s modern interiors, marble’s story is one of enduring beauty and continual reinvention. Now, a new generation of designers are rediscovering this classic material and giving it a fresh, contemporary edge.

At Riad Tile, our marble collection brings the world’s most beautiful stones directly to your space, each tile a work of art formed over centuries. From dramatic Calacatta veins to soft Carrara tones, these surfaces invite warmth, contrast, and effortless elegance into every project.

A Renaissance in Stone

The renewed love for marble is about more than nostalgia — it’s about reinterpreting heritage through a modern lens. Designers today are drawn to marble’s organic veining, luminous depth, and natural variation, using it to create spaces that feel both timeless and alive.

Whether used in subtle accents or striking statement installations, marble has the unique ability to elevate a space with quiet confidence. The trend isn’t about perfection, it’s about authenticity. Each piece tells a story through its movement and color, creating interiors that feel grounded, luxurious, and effortlessly sophisticated.

From Tradition to Transformation

At Riad Tile, our curated range of marble celebrates both the classics and the unexpected:

Bardiglio Grey - A deep, smoky gray stone with soft veining that adds texture and dimension. Its cool, moody tones create a contemporary foundation for both modern and traditional interiors.

Casablanca Carrara - A timeless white marble with delicate gray veining that exudes quiet sophistication. Perfect for light-filled kitchens, serene bathrooms, and spaces that call for refined simplicity.

Casablanca Gold - Subtle golden undertones and gentle movement give this marble a warm radiance. It bridges the gap between classic and modern, pairing beautifully with both cool and warm palettes.

Calacatta Gold - Known for its striking, bold veining and warm golden hues, this marble turns any surface into a statement piece. Ideal for creating luxurious kitchens, bathrooms, and feature walls.

Calacatta Viola - Dramatic and expressive, this marble’s rich violet and burgundy veining make it a work of art in itself. Perfect for designers looking to add passion and personality to a space.

Italian Statuary - A crisp, white background with subtle gray veining gives this marble a refined elegance. Its purity and balance make it a favorite for classic and contemporary spaces alike.

Norwegian Rose - Romantic and distinctive, this marble’s soft blush and rose tones bring warmth and individuality. It feels both vintage and modern, adding a gentle vibrancy to any setting.

Nero Marquina - A bold black marble accented by striking white veining. Sleek, sophisticated, and dramatic, it brings instant depth and contrast to interiors.

Each variety offers a unique personality, yet all share the hallmarks of our commitment to natural beauty, timeless craftsmanship, and enduring design.

Modern Luxury, Naturally

Marble’s resurgence also aligns with a growing desire for materials that stand the test of time both stylistically and sustainably.

As a natural stone, marble offers longevity and an evolving character that synthetic surfaces can’t replicate. Over time, it develops a patina that reflects its environment and use, becoming even more beautiful with age.

At Riad Tile, we embrace this philosophy: design should endure, evolve, and inspire. Our marble tiles are crafted with care, honoring the stone’s natural origins while meeting the needs of contemporary design.

Timeless. Textured. Transformed.

The return of classic marble is not about looking back, it’s about moving forward with grace. By pairing timeless materials with modern craftsmanship, designers are redefining what it means for a space to feel truly luxurious.

We invite you to rediscover marble’s enduring allure and to explore how this ancient stone continues to shape the future of design.

The Rise of the 6x6

Marble 6x6 tiles represent a shift toward balance and intimacy in design. The format feels timeless, yet fresh and versatile enough for both traditional grids and bold layouts like checkerboard or offset patterns.

In kitchens, bathrooms, or entryways, the 6x6 scale allows marble’s veining to shine while maintaining a refined, approachable aesthetic.

Designers are reimagining classic motifs through thoughtful contrasts and tonal layering, combining light and dark marbles for bold visual impact or blending subtle variations in veining and hue to create soft, harmonious compositions. The result is design that feels tailored, personal and enduring.

Pink Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

Pink Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/pink-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide

When you think about tile, the first color that comes to mind may not be pink. At first blush, it may seem too precious — or even too punchy of a statement — to integrate into your space.

But the reality is that pink tile is incredibly versatile — and stunning at that — for everything from bathrooms to kitchens, floors, and accent walls. It can even act as more of a neutral shade, taking on a range of desired aesthetics.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the perks of pink tile and cover everything you need to know — including what it is, where to use it, installation tips and advice (DIY and professional!), maintenance, and where to find everything from pink subway tiles to pink mosaic tiles, blush marble varieties, and even rosy Zellige.

What Is Pink Tile?

Pink tile isn’t just one color or a bright, bubblegum-hued ceramic moment that you may be envisioning. Instead, it spans the color wheel from pale blush to dusty pink, rose, coral, dusky mauve, and beyond. In fact, there are so many types of pink tile that can fit into any space. Here's a snapshot of some different types of pink tile you may want to consider:

Zellige Tile: These authentic Moroccan glazed tiles are 100% handcrafted using methods from the ancient tradition and are characterized by their irregularities and imperfections. The Blush color has a soft, organic look that marries well across a range of spaces and styles, while Coral is deeper and more saturated.

Marble: Boasting subtle coloration and a flawlessly smooth texture, Norwegian Rose marble is a pink-infused natural stone that lends elegance and luxury to any space. The tile has a signature luster and shimmer.

Terrazzo: Terrazzo is back in vogue in all its speckled glory — and infusing this tile with flecks of pink stone only amps up the impact with rose-tinged allure.

Ceramic: While there are many shades of pink ceramic tile, this petal hue in both matte and glossy finishes nearly acts as a neutral — and is all the more versatile for it. Ceramic pink tile is among the most popular pink tile options on the market!

Pink Tile Installation Options

Each type of pink tile will require slightly different installation instructions, but we’re including a guide here for pink ceramic tile — which is one of the more straightforward tile types to install — compared to marble and Zellige.

DIY Installation for Pink Ceramic Tile

If you know your way around home projects, installing your own pink tile — especially pink ceramic tile — can be a rewarding (and cost-saving) option. With the right tools and know-how (and some elbow grease!), you can install backsplashes, small flooring projects, accent walls, and more.

Recommended Tools and Materials

  2. Plan Your Layout: It can be helpful to dry-lay your tiles to determine the arrangement you prefer — and to minimize any potential mistakes. This is easiest to do with floors, but you can also sketch out how you want your tile to appear on a backsplash or wall.

  3. Apply Thinset Mortar: Once you feel confident in the layout of the tile, you're ready for the actual installation to begin. Use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thinset mortar that's suitable for your tile onto the clean surface, such as Mapei Ultraflex LFT or Laticrete 253 (gold). Apply the mixture in the same direction to prevent the formation of air pockets. Before applying any adhesive to the tiles, wet the back of each tile with a sponge.

  4. Lay the Ceramic Tile: Press each tile firmly into the mortar. Do this by hand rather than with a rubber mallet or hammer. Tools like this can cause hairline cracks that may only worsen over time.

  5. Place Spacers: Use 1/16-inch spacers to help keep your grout lines as evenly proportioned as possible. This is a telltale sign of a professional-looking tile job.

  6. Cut Your Tile to Fit: With a water-cooled tile saw, cut the tile into the sizes you need to fit corners and other spaces where the regular-size tiles cannot accommodate. Note: A standard tile cutter won't cut it (literally). So, it's critical to use a tile saw, as it prevents chipping — and don't forget your protective eyewear and gear!

  7. Apply Grout Release: Once the mortar sets, remove the spacers, clean and dry your tile, and apply one to two coats of grout release to the surface of the tiles, using a rubber float. This will ensure that your grout doesn't stain the surface of the tile.

  8. Apply Grout: Within one hour of applying the grout release, apply grout. At Riad Tile, we recommend using Mapei Flexcolor CQ grout. It's available at Lowe's and Floor and Decor, along with other home improvement stores. You should also avoid dark-colored grout, as it can stain the tile.

  9. Let the Curing Begin: Grout should cure for about 48 hours — or according to the manufacturer's instructions. After the grout has cured, thoroughly clean your new tile surface.

Note: Ceramic tiles are not freeze- or frost-proof, so you shouldn't use them in most outdoor settings. They also cannot withstand the weight of vehicles, so you should never use them in driveways.

Professional Installation

If that all sounds too complicated for your DIY comfort level — or you simply don’t have time to be a weekend warrior — professional tile installers are here to save the day (and your home project). These licensed experts ensure the correct spacing, a flawless finish, and long-lasting durability. They can also answer common design inquiries — like if you’re questioning what color grout for pink tile will best suit your space.

At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors in your area — or help guide your installer through our specifications — to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully.

White Ceramic Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/white-ceramic-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide

While it’s easy to write off white ceramic tile as too “basic” or “boring,” this really couldn’t be further from the truth. A white tile makeover is always a classic, and homeowners and designers alike have loved it for decades.

Not only does this tile never go out of style, but it also offers a fresh, elevated, and incredibly versatile blank slate for a range of interchangeable colors, trends, and aesthetic preferences.

Want a colorful maximalist escape? White tile is your canvas to layer in all the hues. Craving a bright, all-white monochrome look? White tile checks the box.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the joys of white ceramic tile and review how to use it in your home, DIY and professional installation advice, cleaning and care tips, and where to find the best selection of white tile for your next home design project.

What Is White Ceramic Tile?

Glad you asked! Simple and classic, white ceramic tile is created out of natural clay that is shaped and fired in a kiln. It’s coated with a protective glaze that gives it a specific color (in this case, white!) and finish — like matte or glossy — while sealing against stains and moisture.

Ceramic tiles generally boast a durable, water-resistant surface that works wonderfully in almost any room. And because of its clean, neutral color, ceramic white tile provides a backdrop for virtually any design style — from farmhouse chic to sleek minimalism, modern transitional, and more.

Some of the most popular styles of white ceramic tiles include:

White Subway Tile: This is a classic! The rectangular shape, which can be installed vertically or horizontally, is ideal for kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, and showers.

Large-format White Ceramic Tiles: This larger-size tile is ideal for flooring, and the light color helps make spaces look larger and more open.

Textured or Patterned White Tiles: For a subtle twist, dimensional designs add a touch of visual interest without overwhelming a space.

Black and White Tile Combinations: While patterned tile goes beyond the color white, graphic, monochromatic designs make a striking statement.

Where to Use White Ceramic Tile in Your Home

The beauty of white ceramic tile lies in its versatility. While it doesn’t change colors, it is still like a chameleon because it can adapt to nearly any room and any style.

The options are nearly endless — but here are a few ideas to get those creative juices flowing for how to use white ceramic tiles in your home:

  1. Kitchen Backsplash

A white subway tile backsplash is a design classic — but consider going slightly outside the tile box approach by installing the tiles vertically instead of horizontally for an unexpected twist. Whether paired with bold counters and cabinetry or a minimalist palette, this type of white tile backsplash offers a crisp, clean look that never feels dated.

  1. Bathroom Walls and Showers

White ceramic tile instantly brightens bathrooms, transforming them into a fresh, inviting, and spa-inspired escape. And the tile doesn’t just have to be in a shower or on the floor! Consider an entire accent wall of white tile for a subtly reflective effect that adds depth and light to the space.

  1. Dimensional Designs

If you just cannot get excited about standard-issue white ceramic tile,  dimensional designs bring a layer of intrigue while still being neutral enough to work in many spaces. The visual impact of these mini-art pieces is incredible — and they’re perfect for an accent wall or coffee or cocktail nook.

  1. White Tile Floors

Durable and easy to maintain, white tile floors are an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways. Not only do they visually expand the square footage of a space, they pair beautifully with almost any color palette — and are the perfect foundation for beautiful rugs and furnishings.

  1. Laundry Rooms & Utility Spaces

Because white ceramic tile is water-resistant and easy to clean, it’s a functional solution for utility, high-moisture spaces like laundry rooms, mudrooms with dog-bath stations, and more.

  1. Black and White Tiles

Another way to put the versatility of ceramic tile to work — while applying more of a statement-making effect — is with the use of black and white tile to create checkerboard patterns, borders, or unique statement designs. Or, consider hand-painted, artisan black-and-white tiles or a bold, graphic effect via a white tile with a black design like this Swiss Cross tile.

White Ceramic Tile Installation Options

Of all the types of tiles, installing ceramic tile can be a bit more straightforward than the complexities of natural stones, breeze blocks, and terra cotta options. That said, it’s still important to be fully equipped for the job!

DIY Installation

If you know your way around home projects, installing your own white ceramic tiles can be a rewarding (and cost-saving) option. With the right tools and know-how (and some elbow grease!), you can install backsplashes, small flooring projects, accent walls, and more.

How to Clean White Ceramic Tile

White ceramic tiles are practical — in addition to being a beautiful design choice. So, one of their major advantages is how easy the cleaning and maintenance process is.

Unlike other materials like natural stone, ceramic also doesn’t require sealing.

Daily Care: Clean ceramic tile surfaces with a cloth, sponge, or mop to remove any dirt, dust, and debris. You can also use mild soap and water, as needed.

Deep Cleaning White Tile Floors or Walls: If you’re wondering how to clean white tile floors — or a shower or backsplash wall — a neutral pH cleaner works best. And while ceramic is stain-resistant, those pesky grout lines can discolor. For grout lines, a gentle scrub with a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste (use a 2:1 ratio) can work to restore brightness and remedy any staining.

What to Avoid: We don't recommend using rough scrubbers or abrasive products that can dull or damage the glaze of both matte tile and glossy tile. If you are using a scrub brush for grout, make sure it is a small brush — and that you are only applying the brush directly

Black Marble Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/black-marble-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide

If you ever wondered what the equivalent of a little black dress is for your home — it's black marble tile. It’s always in style and always appropriate. It can always be dressed up or dressed down; and it’s equally statement-making and subtle — just like that LBD.

So, if you’re seeking timeless elegance with a side of dramatic contrast, black marble tile is hard to beat. Whether you're renovating a petite powder room, refreshing your kitchen backsplash, or upgrading your flooring, this bold and beautiful material makes a splash — without overwhelming a space.

If you're new to the world of black marble tile, we're breaking it all down in this comprehensive guide. We'll explore what it is, inspiring ideas for incorporating it into your home, installation methods (both DIY and professional), essential cleaning and maintenance tips, and — of course — where to get your hands on the good stuff (spoiler alert: Riad Tile has you covered).

What Is Black Marble Tile?

A lesson in classic luxury, marble is a natural stone tile that’s renowned for its sleek aesthetic. While you may think of marble as polished and glossy, it can actually have a honed or tumbled finish, too. Honed marble has that signature smooth surface while tumbled marble has a rustic and textured — even slightly worn — appearance.

While there are several varieties of black marble tile, Nero Marquina is one of the most prominent and fascinating types. It has a satiny, rich black color and shocks of vibrant white crackling throughout. And it can only be quarried in a handful of locations across the world — including Spain’s Basque Country, China, and Iran — where geological conditions naturally produce the striking appearance that makes it such a highly sought-after material.

Where to Use Black Marble Tile in Your Home

Black marble tile is surprisingly versatile and can be used throughout your home — from bathrooms to kitchen countertops and walls, as well as flooring and beyond.

For example, a simple image search for “marble floor tiles black” will populate endless inspiration. What you’ll quickly discover is that black marble tile can be either dramatic or understated — depending on how you use it.

Here are some ways to incorporate this tile into your space:

  1. Bathroom Floors and Showers

An easy way to add an elevated impact to a bathroom is with marble floor tiles that are black — especially in a checkerboard style. For example, Riad Tile’s Casablanca Carrara and Nero Marquina 3” Checkerboard marble mosaic brings a classic, eye-catching look that’s instantly warmed by rich woods and jade greens.

Riad Tile’s 12"x12" Nero Marquina black marble floor tile mixed with Calacatta Gold marble is another version of the statement-making checkerboard look. The veining is more visible — and absolutely stunning — in the larger format tiles.

You don’t have to use a checkerboard format to make a splash, though. For example, Riad Tile’s Nero Marquina 6"x12" black marble floor tile is a dream when contrasted by crisp white walls and Casablanca Carrara 6"x12" marble tile on the wall.

  1. Entryways and Foyers

Marble — whether it’s in checkerboard format or simply a sleek black marble floor tile — makes an incredible first impression in an entryway or foyer, instantly setting the tone for a luxe look. In open-concept spaces, large-format tiles can help create seamless flow and a dramatic effect.

  1. Kitchen Backsplashes

Want a bold backsplash? Bring in the black marble tile. For an added edge, Riad Tile’s Nero Marquina 1"x4" Herringbone Mosaic tile features an intriguing, geometric pattern to wake up any kitchen backsplash. For bonus points, use it behind a suave in-home coffee or cocktail bar

  1. Fireplace Surrounds

Using black marble tile for a fireplace creates a warm, chic focal point — especially when paired with lighter walls and furnishings for contrast.

Black Marble Tile Installation Options

Like any natural stone tile installation, black marble tile requires a bit more care than standard ceramic or porcelain tiles — and mistakes can be costly to fix.

But, if you’re an experienced DIY-er, here's a general step-by-step overview, along with the tools and materials you'll need.

Just remember that each type, size, and pattern of black marble tile may require slightly different materials (like grout and mortar!).

Recommended Tools and Materials

DIY Installation Basics

Prep Your Surface: Ensure the surface — whether it's a subfloor, wall, or something else — is clean, level, free of debris, and ready for the tile.

Plan Your Layout: Keep in mind that variation in color and veining is common for black marble tile. The best overall blend of color and veining occurs when you mix and match tiles from different boxes. It can be helpful to dry-lay your tiles to determine the arrangement you prefer — and to minimize any potential mistakes. This is easiest when you are using black marble tile for flooring, but you can also sketch out how you want your tile to appear on a backsplash, fireplace, or wall. Also, don't ignore the age-old advice: Measure twice and cut once! That way, you can minimize waste.

Apply Mortar: Once you're ready to lay your black marble tile, use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thin-set mortar that's suitable for your specific tile onto the clean surface.

Lay the Tile: Press each tile firmly into the mortar, using spacers to maintain those evenly proportioned grout lines that are essential to a professional-looking finish.

Cut Your Tile: With a wet saw, cut the marble tile into the sizes you need to fit corners and other spaces where the regular-size tiles cannot accommodate. Note: A standard tile cutter won't cut it (literally). So, it's critical to use a wet saw, as it prevents chipping.

Apply Grout: Once the mortar sets, remove the spacers and fill them with the appropriate grout for your tile using a rubber float. At Riad Tile, we highly recommend using Mapei Flexcolor CQ grout for many natural stone tiles. It's available at Lowe's and Floor and Decor. Whichever grout you choose, make sure it is non-sanded and stone-safe.

Don't Forget to Seal: Don't skip this step! Use a high-quality, penetrating sealer to protect your black marble tile from any moisture and stains. Riad Tile recommends the Miracle 511 Porous Plus sealer. For your planning purposes, the quart size covers 200 to 250 square feet, while the gallon size covers 500 to 750 square feet.

When to Hire a Pro

If that DIY process sounds intimidating, you aren’t alone. Many homeowners prefer to leave the tile installation to the experts to ensure a flawless finish.

Bringing in a professional can be especially important if you're dealing with intricate patterns (like herringbone or checkerboard layouts), if you need to cover an ample space, or if you just don't want to deal with the stress and mess of a DIY project.

Professional tile setters provide the correct spacing, proper sealing, and an overall polished look. At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully.

How to Care for Black Marble Tile

Black marble tile is versatile and gorgeous, but it does require a little bit of TLC when it comes to maintaining its natural beauty. If you're wondering how to clean black marble shower tiles or floors, here are some tried-and-true tips:

Keep Up a Regular Cleaning Routine: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any dust, dirt, and debris. Consider using floor mats or rugs inside and outside the entrance to your home to minimize anything that may scratch a marble floor.

Keep Surfaces Dry: If your black marble tile is in a moisture-rich environment — like a bathroom floor or a shower wall — it's helpful to dry off the tile after use to prevent water stains and mildew.

Use Appropriate Cleaning Solutions: To clean your tile, use a pH-neutral stone cleaner (generally available at local grocery or hardware stores) with a damp, soft mop to avoid any damage or scratches. Soapless cleaners are recommended as they minimize streaking and film residue. But mild, phosphate-free, biodegradable liquid dishwashing soaps or powders or stone soaps can be used, as well. Just make sure to rinse thoroughly.

Manage Stain Care and Soap Scum: Clean any spills immediately to prevent any stains, especially with acidic or highly pigmented substances. Specifically, for how to clean black marble shower tiles, reduce the occurrence of soap scum by using liquid body washes and squeegeeing the tile after every use. You may also want to try the Miracle Sealants Porcelain & Ceramic Tile Cleaner or Miracle Sealants Heavy Duty Non-Acidic Cleaner to help remove any buildup.

Maintain Periodic Sealing: Apply a stone sealer, like the Miracle 511 Porous Plus Sealer, every one to two years to ensure your black marble tile is continually protected against moisture and stains — particularly in areas like bathrooms and kitchen backsplashes.

With routine care, your black marble tile can look as good as new for decades.

Breeze Blocks 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/breeze-blocks-101-your-ultimate-guide

Think geometry can't be cool? Think again.

Breeze blocks — those retro-chic, geometric cutout tiles popularized in the 1950s and '60s — are back. And they're better than ever. Once a mid-century staple, these sculptural stunners are experiencing their own modern renaissance and appearing in the smartest, most stylish homes — from Palm Springs patios to contemporary Texas bungalows.

Whether you're eyeing a breezy backyard partition or a DIY breeze block table that impresses, there's no shortage of ways to use these structural gems.

In this ultimate guide to breeze blocks, we'll break down exactly what breeze blocks are, where to use breeze blocks (hint: almost anywhere!), how to install and maintain them, and where to buy the highest quality breeze blocks that you'll actually be excited to show off (spoiler: Riad Tile has you covered).

What Is Breeze Block Tile?

Breeze blocks are iconic, mid-century terracotta blocks known for their ruddy hues, geometric patterns, and airy cutouts. Originally gaining momentum over 75 years ago — cue '60s-era Palm Springs — they're having a major comeback, and for good reason!

These bold blocks add texture, movement, and architectural interest to any space while allowing airflow and light to pass through.

Many designers and homeowners are using breeze blocks outdoors — not only because they have a cool, stylish appearance but also because they offer practical benefits, such as diffusing sunlight and allowing for airflow and ventilation, while providing seclusion and privacy.

You can also use breeze blocks indoors to add a unique flair to any space.

At Riad Tile, we offer a curated selection of breeze block tiles that elevate their classic utility with modern spirit. From retaining walls with breeze blocks to stunning breeze block bars, these versatile tiles can cover it all.

Where to Use Breeze Block Tile in Your Home

At Riad Tile, we see breeze blocks lending their sculptural and unique Art Deco spirit to everything from terraces and porches to patios, partition walls, front yards, backyards, bar façades, and more.

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings, these adaptable blocks can elevate both residential and commercial design in a standout way that checks the box on both form and function.

Here are a few of our favorite ideas for where to use breeze block tile, pulled from real-life installations and customer inspiration.

  1. Buzzworthy Patio

Perhaps unsurprisingly, outdoor living spaces like patios and sunrooms are at the top of the list for where to use breeze blocks.

You can use these tiles to define outdoor living areas while maintaining ventilation and airflow — making them perfect for everything from sunny decks to lush gardens and poolside lounges.

Bonus? They cast beautiful shadows with the movement of the sun throughout the day.

  1. Hip Interior Room Divider

Even if you didn't like geometry class, you'll be crushing on all the angles of a breeze block interior room divider or accent wall that offers both privacy and panache.

Not just for outside spaces, breeze blocks can offer a surefire way to create a sense of separation in open-concept floor plans by acting as a divider wall.

The cutouts in the breeze blocks ensure the layout stays open and light.

  1. Cool Retaining Wall

Function meets form when you use breeze blocks for landscape features. From building a retaining wall with breeze blocks to constructing half walls around a deck or patio, breeze blocks are no wallflower. They infuse any area with a casual-yet-cool attitude.

You could also use breeze blocks to terrace a slope or edge a garden bed as a creative twist on traditional cinder blocks.

  1. Groovy Bar Façade

If you have an outdoor kitchen and bar that could use an upgrade, breeze blocks are the perfect solution.

They can turn any lackluster bar façade into a groovy, statement-making destination to sling cocktails during your next backyard bash — or just sidle up to for a glass of beer.

5.  Breeze Block Table

If you've ever created a makeshift table base out of stacked cinder blocks and topped it with a piece of wood or glass, you can imagine the upgrade that breeze blocks can provide.

Your next outdoor (or indoor) table uses breeze blocks for the base. They add an eye-catching edge to everything from dining tables and side tables to coffee tables, accent tables, and more.

Breeze Block Tile Installation Options

In general, novice DIYers shouldn't install breeze block tiles on their own. Professional tile installers with extensive experience in similar tile installations will ensure the best results and a flawless finish, especially across large square footages or outdoor spaces.

That said, here is an overview of the recommended tools and materials, along with best practices to ensure a successful installation — if you go the DIY route!

DIY Installation

If you're confident with tools and looking for a weekend project, check out this DIY installation guide.

Recommended Tools and Materials:

Steel rule

Level

Plumb

Masonry trowel

String

Tape measure

Hammer

Plastic brush

Finishing trowel

Utility knife

Adhesive mortar

Rebar

Rebar tie wire

Safety gear

And, of course, your breeze block tiles

Before You Begin

Waterproofing: Waterproof the subgrade if it is in contact with natural ground to eliminate the potential for adverse effects caused by condensation.

Layout and leveling: Place your breeze blocks in the preferred installation pattern to check the layout and location of any columns and openings for doors or windows. You'll also want to check the leveling of any beams and foundation layers.

DIY Installation Tips

Prepare the breeze blocks: First, dampen the breeze block units by immersing them in water for 2-5 minutes, being careful to avoid oversaturation. Allow any excess surface moisture to evaporate before installing.

Prepare your adhesive mortar: If you're using ready-mixed dry mortar, prepare it in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Install guides: Level and install reference guides (straight-edge rulers) at the ends of the breeze block wall at an appropriate distance. Determine the height of the first course based on the thickness of the subgrade plus the height of the breeze block unit; level and fasten the string to the rulers at the specified height.

Apply foundation mortar: Apply the layer of foundation mortar for the first course of breeze blocks and apply mortar along the vertical face in an advancing direction along the foundation. Lay the breeze block units, leveling their upper surfaces at the height indicated by the string as previously tied.

Continue with subsequent courses: Raise the reference string by an amount equal to the height of the breeze block plus the size of the mortar joint. Level the string and apply another course of mortar to lay the next course of breeze blocks. Level the course using the reference string. Continue in the same manner until the desired area is entirely filled.

Verify the plumbness: At regular intervals, every three or four courses, verify the plumbness of the wall using either the plumb line or the level in order to prevent any deviation from the straight verticality you want to achieve.

Confine, if necessary: If your breeze block walls are load-bearing, it's advisable to confine them by tie columns and tie beams with sufficient horizontal and vertical clearance to allow the absorption of any possible movement.

Use horizontal reinforcement: If necessary, you can reinforce your breeze block wall with two 3/16″ diameter grade 60 rods embedded in the horizontal joint mortar once every two courses, anchoring them at the ends to a vertical reinforcing element.

Use vertical reinforcement: For vertical reinforcement, a 3/16″ diameter grade 60 rod may be installed every two or three units, embedded in the mortar joint and anchored at either end.

Grout and clean: After grouting the joints, clean any excess mortar using a plastic bristle brush and a damp cloth.

Professional Installation

Many homeowners don't feel equipped to install breeze blocks on their own due to the materials, tools, time, and expertise required — especially if the project is structural in nature, like building a retaining wall with breeze blocks or installing a large-scale indoor or outdoor partition.

Expert contractors and tile setters will provide the safety, stability, and code compliance you need, as well as uniform spacing, precise alignment, proper sealing, and an overall polished look that ensures long-lasting results.

At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors familiar with installing breeze blocks in Dallas and beyond to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully, no matter what type of breeze block installation you have.

How to Clean Breeze Block Tile

One reason breeze blocks are so popular in both residential and commercial spaces is because they're relatively low-maintenance. Still, a little care can go a long way to keeping your breeze blocks beautiful over time.

Here's a quick overview of how to clean breeze block tile:

Routine Cleaning: Use a soft-bristle brush and mild detergent to remove dust and grime.

Deep Cleaning: For outdoor blocks with mold or algae, apply a solution of water and white vinegar or use a pressure washer on a low setting. Avoid harsh chemicals that can degrade the surface.

Sealing: Consider sealing outdoor breeze block tiles to help protect them against the effects of weathering and staining.

With just occasional upkeep, breeze block tile will stay gorgeous for decades to come.

The Ultimate Guide to Terracotta Tile for Your Home

The Ultimate Guide to Terracotta Tile for Your Home

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/the-ultimate-guide-to-terracotta-tile-for-your-home

Warm, earthy, and rich in history, terracotta tile brings the magic of authentic, timeless charm to any space.

Especially popular in Mediterranean, Southwestern, and Spanish-style homes, terracotta tiles have also found their way into modern and boho interiors thanks to their rich texture and organic warmth.

So, whether you're designing a rustic terracotta kitchen floor tile layout, upgrading a patio with terracotta outdoor tile, or simply exploring a natural finish for your interiors, this ultimate guide will walk you through everything you need to know about terracotta tile — what it is, where to use it, how to install and maintain it, and where to buy the best selection in person or online.

What Is Terracotta Tile?

Terracotta is a type of ceramic tile that's made from natural clay and fired at low temperatures, giving the tile its signature reddish-brown hue and rustic, earthen texture. In Italian, "terracotta" literally translates to "baked earth." Because of this handcrafted process, the tile has unique variations in color, size, and finish, creating a truly organic and handcrafted aesthetic.

Terracotta has a long and rich history, dating back thousands of years. Historians think it may have originated in ancient civilizations, like Egypt and China, where it was used for buildings and architectural ornamentation.

At Riad Tile, our terracotta clay tile is crafted from natural materials that are responsibly sourced from Canada — it's also handmade using centuries-old techniques. From clay cutting to packaging, each tile goes through at least six handling processes, ensuring the quality, consistency, and beauty of these top-quality artisanal tiles.

As a result, the entire collection of terracotta tile not only captures that distinctive sense of earthy beauty, but it also offers durability and versatility.

Why Choose Terracotta Tile?

People have used terracotta tile in homes for centuries, and for good reason. Here are a few reasons why it has stood the test of time and continues to offer its magnetic appeal:

Natural, organic beauty: No two terracotta tiles are exactly alike. This rich, varied surface creates depth in any room and tells a story.

Warmth and radiance: Those earthy sunset hues of terracotta are undoubtedly warm and inviting and work across both classic and contemporary designs. Riad Tile also offers a unique black terracotta that brings mysterious, rich undertones of the night sky.

Durability: When properly sealed, terracotta tile is incredibly versatile across many indoor and outdoor spaces and stands up well to foot traffic and the elements.

Eco-friendliness: Because it's made from natural clay, terracotta is a sustainable flooring and wall tile.

Versatility: If you're wondering what colors go with terracotta tile — or what styles are its perfect match — the answer is just about anything. Terracotta tile acts like a neutral shade in many instances and can be a style chameleon that adapts to many different aesthetics.

Where to Use Terracotta Tile in Your Home

One of the beautiful advantages of terracotta tile is that it's just as practical as it is pretty. The natural, organic warmth complements many spaces and styles — from modern farmhouses to Mediterranean villas and Southwestern casitas.

And you can use the tile almost anywhere, from indoor to outdoor floors, high-traffic areas, interior and exterior walls, fireplaces, kitchens, showers, and beyond.

Terracotta Tile Installation Tips

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

In general, novice DIYers shouldn't install terracotta tile on their own. Professional tile installers with extensive experience in similar handmade tile installations will ensure the best result and a flawless finish, especially in large or outdoor spaces.

That said, here is an overview of the recommended tools and materials, along with best practices to ensure a successful installation.

Recommended Tools and Materials

Terracotta tile

Bucket and sponge

1/2-inch notched trowel

High-quality medium to large format tile mortar, such as ProLite Premium Large Format Tile Mortar

1/8-inch tile spacers

Grout float

Cement grout, such as Custom Prism Ultimate Performance

Wet saw with a diamond blade that's suitable for tiles

Tray and foam roller

pH-neutral cleaner

Lint-free microfiber cloth

High-quality impregnating sealer, such as Stain-Proof Color Enhancing Sealer or Stain-Proof Premium Impregnating Sealer

DIY Installation Tips

Seal before and after grouting. This prevents grout from staining the tile's surface.

Choose the right grout. Prep your surface: Ensure the surface — whether it's a subfloor, wall, or outdoor area — is clean, level, and fully cured with the proper substrate, underlayment, or membrane.

Plan your layout: It can be helpful to dry-lay your terracotta tiles to determine the arrangement you prefer and to minimize any potential mistakes. This process is most straightforward when you are using the tile as flooring, but you can also sketch out how you want your tile to appear on a backsplash or wall. Also, don't ignore the age-old advice: Measure twice and cut once! That way, you can minimize waste.

Use a thinset mortar: Once you're ready to lay your natural stone tile, use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thin-set mortar onto the clean surface. Terracotta tiles are porous, so many styles require soaking before installation to prevent rapid moisture absorption from the thinset.

Lay the tile: Press each tile firmly into the mortar, using spacers to maintain those evenly proportioned grout lines that are essential to a professional-looking finish. Do not use a hammer or mallet to set the tiles, just apply hand pressure.

Cut your tile: With a wet saw, cut the terracotta tile into the sizes you need to fit the spaces that the regular-size tiles cannot accommodate. Note: A standard tile cutter won't cut it (literally). So, it's critical to use a wet saw. Make sure to thoroughly clean all tiles immediately after cutting them to prevent cutting paste stains.

Seal thoroughly: Because terracotta is so porous, sealing your tile is an integral step both before and after grouting. Make sure to allow 48 hours for the mortar to cure before you apply the sealer.

Apply grout, then seal again: Once the mortar sets, remove the spacers and fill them with grout using a rubber float. Earthy, neutral tones generally work best with terracotta. Don't forget to seal your tile again to protect it from stains and moisture.

When to Hire a Pro

Due to terracotta tiles' porosity and rustic edges, which can make for a tricky DIY project, many homeowners decide to go with professional installation. Expert tile setters will provide the uniform spacing, precise cuts to avoid waste, proper sealing, and an overall polished look that ensures long-lasting results.

At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully, which is especially important for a terracotta tile kitchen or outdoor applications where exposure to water and heavy use is a factor.

How to Clean Terracotta Tile

Despite its specific installation requirements, terracotta tile is relatively low-maintenance when sealed properly. However, because it is naturally porous, regular care helps it look its best.

Here's a quick overview of how to clean terracotta tile:

Maintain regular cleaning: Sweep or vacuum it regularly to remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

Keep surfaces dry: If your terracotta tile is in a moisture-rich environme

Artisan Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/artisan-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide-10

When you think of the word "artisan," what comes to mind?

Perhaps you are picturing something that is high-quality and handcrafted — or something that is made using traditional methods. You might even think of something delicious — like artisan pizza or artisan cheese.

But if you're seeking a way to infuse that same nod to tradition and craftsmanship into your home, artisan tile is your answer. Handmade by skilled craftspeople using time-honored techniques, artisan tiles offer a level of design, detail, and durability that mass-produced tiles simply can't match.

At Riad Tile, we're passionate about preserving the art of handcrafted tile. From statement-making, hand-painted ceramic tiles to dimensional relief designs, our artisan ceramic tile collections have the character and timeless beauty that elevates any space — indoors and out.

Your Complete Guide to Artisan Tile

In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore what makes artisan tile so unique along with inspiring ideas for how to use it in your home. We'll also cover installation options (both DIY and professional), care and maintenance tips, and where to buy artisan tiles in Texas and online.

What Is Artisan Tile?

Artisan tiles are generally made by hand or crafted using traditional techniques — and that often happens in small batches. As a result, natural variation is a significant hallmark of this type of handmade tile. You can expect slight differences in patterns, colors, and textures that give the tiles so much character — and this is something that is simply not found in mass-produced tiles.

For example, at Riad Tile, our hand-painted artisan ceramic tiles are skillfully made by expert tile artisans and come in a variety of colors and styles.

So, whether you're drawn to the sophisticated effect of matte ceramic tile, the subtle imperfections of rustic tile, or the bolder flourish of a dimensional or hand-painted option, these artisan tiles make every surface a statement piece.

Where to Use Artisan Tile in Your Home

Using artisan tile in your home is a bit like adding an attention-grabbing piece of functional art. No matter where the tiles are placed, they bring a striking design edge and a splash of curated, cool sophistication.

Artisan ceramic tile is also incredibly versatile, which means it works in nearly every space — from kitchens and bathrooms to patios, entryways, and beyond. Here are just a few ideas for how handmade tile can transform even the simplest space into something extraordinary.

  1. Bathroom Walls

The walls of a bathroom are an incredible place to feature artisan ceramic tiles. Try a textured ceramic tile or hand-painted ceramic tile on the walls for depth and interest, or choose matte tile on the floors for a soft, slip-resistant finish.

You can even create a wallpaper effect with hand-painted Green Ceramic tile. Try Black Ceramic tile with white grout for a dramatic contrast, or step into your pretty-in-pink era with dimensional Pink Ceramic tile for a modern retro vibe.

Remember: Any varied pigmentation or slight imperfections among artisan tile are what create a one-of-a-kind look that you simply cannot get with standard, mass-produced tile.

  1. Kitchen Backsplashes

Nothing can elevate a kitchen faster than a gorgeous artisan tile backsplash. Whether you choose a bold Blue Ceramic tile with Moroccan flair or a sleek and dimensional White Ceramic tile with modern lines, handmade tile adds warmth and personality.

  1. Fireplace Surrounds

A tiled fireplace surround can become the centerpiece of your living room. Whether you opt for glossy ceramic tile that reflects the firelight, a beautiful matte variety with subtle dimension, or engage in some pattern play with a hand-painted option, the traditionally crafted nature of artisan tile ensures a warm, eclectic, and lived-in elegance.

  1. Entryways and Mudrooms

Your entryway sets the tone for your entire home — so why not make it special? Artisan tiles in energetic patterns or earthy textures bring character to these easily overlooked "fringe" spaces of a house.

  1. Outdoor Spaces

Don't forget about your patio, deck, or front entryway! Artisan tile is perfect for covered outdoor use, giving your exterior just as much personality as your interiors. Use Green Ceramic tile or Yellow Ceramic tile to bring color and life to the risers between steps or your garden walls and planters.

Artisan Tile Installation Options

Installing artisan tile can be a rewarding DIY activity or a precision job for a professional tile setter — depending on the complexity of the project and your experience level.

DIY Installation Tips

Putting in the work and installing artisan tile yourself is absolutely doable — but it can also be challenging!

Whether you want to tackle a kitchen backsplash or a bathroom floor, it's crucial to approach the process with the right materials and the correct method — especially when working with handmade tile that requires a bit more TLC than other types of commercial tiles.

Here's a general, easy-to-follow DIY overview, along with the tools and materials you'll need. But just know that each type, size, and pattern of artisan stone will require slightly different materials (like grout color and mortar type!).

Recommended Tools and Materials

Artisan tiles of your choosing

1/16-inch tile spacers

Level and measuring tape

Thin-set mortar

Notched trowel

Rubber float

Grout release

Grout (unsanded)

Wet saw (for cutting tiles)

DIY Installation Basics

Prep Your Surface: Ensure the entire surface — whether it's a subfloor, wall, backsplash, or outdoor area — is dry, level, and free of debris, so it's ready to receive your artisan stone tile. For floors, you'll want to use a backer board if the subfloor isn't completely flat or moisture-resistant, such as Hardie Backer Board, Durock, or Ditra.

Plan Your Layout: It can be helpful to dry-lay your tiles to determine the arrangement you prefer — and to minimize any potential mistakes. This is easiest to do with floors, but you can also sketch out how you want your tile to appear on a backsplash or wall. Also, don't ignore the age-old advice: Measure twice and cut once! That way, you can minimize waste.

Apply Thin-Set Mortar: Once you are happy with the design and layout of the artisan tile, you're ready to actually install it. Use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thin-set mortar that's suitable for your tile onto the clean surface, such as Laticrete 253.

Lay the Tile: Press each tile firmly by hand into the mortar, as using a rubber mallet or hammer can cause hairline cracks. Use 1/16-inch spacers to maintain the evenly proportioned grout lines that are essential for a professional-looking finish.

Cut Your Tile to Fit: With a wet saw, cut the artisan tile into the sizes you need to fit corners and other spaces where the regular-size tiles cannot accommodate. Note: A standard tile cutter won't cut it (literally). So, it's critical to use a wet saw, as it prevents chipping — and don't forget your protective eyewear and gear!

Apply Grout Release: Once the mortar sets, remove the spacers, clean and dry your tile, and apply one to two coats of grout release to the surface of the tiles, using a rubber float. This will ensure that your grout doesn't stain the surface of the tile.

Apply Grout: Within one hour of applying the grout release, apply grout. At Riad Tile, we recommend using Mapei Flexcolor CQ grout. It's available at Lowe's and Floor and Decor, along with other home improvement stores. Whichever grout you choose, make sure it is non-sanded. You should also avoid dark-colored grout, as it can stain the tile.

Allow for Curing: Grout should cure for about 48 hours or according to the manufacturer's instructions. After the grout has cured, clean your new tile surface thoroughly.

When to Hire a Pro

Artisan tile is not the best beginner project for DIY novices. So, for those who prefer to leave the installation to the experts to ensure a flawless finish and long-lasting durability, consider hiring a professional installer.

This can be especially important when you're dealing with large areas or when you want to create intricate patterns with your tile. Professional tile setters will provide the correct spacing, proper sealing, and an overall polished look.

At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors in your area — or help guide your installer through our specifications — to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully.

How to Clean Artisan Tile

Caring for your handmade tile is actually easier than you might think. Here are some general cleaning tips to maintain your tile for years to come:

Maintain Regular Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

Keep Surfaces Dry: If your artisan tile is in a moisture-rich environment — like the tile floor of a bathroom or a shower wall — it's helpful to dry off the tile to avoid water spots and the buildup of mildew.

Use the Appropriate Cleaner: Use a pH-neutral cleaner with a damp, soft mop to avoid damaging or scratching the surface of your tile.

Avoid Abrasive Products: Rough scrubbers can dull the finish of both matte tile and glossy tile, so make sure to use softer cloths and sponges.

Where to Buy Artisan Tile

Natural Stone Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/natural-stone-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide

Natural stone tile is a cornerstone of architectural and interior design — and has been for centuries. And it's really no surprise. Few materials can simultaneously boast the timeless elegance and organic beauty — not to mention the aesthetic versatility and durability — of natural stone tile.

Unique patterns and rich textures all contribute to its appeal. From a sleek marble backsplash, to a rustic slate floor, and a warm travertine patio, natural stone has the undeniable ability to elevate any space.

If you're new to the world of natural stone tile, we're breaking it all down in this comprehensive guide. We'll dig into what it is, inspiring ideas for incorporating it into your home, installation methods (both DIY and professional), essential cleaning and maintenance tips, and — of course — where to get your hands on the good stuff (hint: Riad Tile has you covered).

What Is Natural Stone Tile?

Natural stone tile is exactly what it sounds like. It is tile that comes from quarried stone that has been cut and finished. Because of that origin story, no two pieces of natural stone tile are exactly alike. This is one of the differences between natural stone and mass-produced, manufactured options, like ceramic, which provide a far more uniform appearance.

Each natural stone tile has its own distinctive veining, texture, and coloration. These variations are all part of its beauty, adding sophisticated character to any space and helping make it feel one-of-a-kind.

The most common types of natural stone used in tile production include:

Marble: A lesson in classic luxury, marble is renowned for its smooth texture and dramatic veining. It's often used in bathroom and kitchen countertops and walls, in addition to flooring.

Granite: With its signature speckled appearance and its high durability, granite is often selected for high-traffic areas and countertops.

Limestone: This softer, more porous stone has subtle color variations and a matte finish, so it brings an understated elegance that's suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

Slate: Characterized by a more rustic, rugged appearance and textured surface, slate brings rustic charm to floors and walls — both inside and out.

Travertine: Featuring natural pits and troughs in its surface, travertine delivers a warm, earthy look that's commonly used in bathrooms and outdoor spaces.

Where to Use Natural Stone Tile in Your Home

Part of the allure of natural stone is that it works everywhere — floors, walls, backsplashes, showers, fireplaces, patios, you name it.

But if you need some additional inspiration, here are a few ways to incorporate it into your home:

Natural Stone Tile Installation Options

If you love a good DIY project and have some experience with tile work, you can install natural stone tile yourself. But just know that natural stone tile isn't quite as forgiving as ceramic or porcelain, and an installation that doesn't quite go right can be an expensive mistake to fix.

Here's a general step-by-step overview, along with the tools and materials you'll need. But just know that each type, size, and pattern of natural stone will require slightly different materials (like grout and mortar!).

Recommended Tools and Materials

Thin-set mortar

Notched trowel

Tile spacers

Rubber float

Grout

Sealer (penetrating stone sealer recommended)

Wet saw (for cutting tiles)

Level and measuring tape

Your natural stone tile of choice!

DIY Installation Basics

Prep Your Surface: Ensure the surface — whether it's a subfloor, wall, or outdoor area — is clean, level, and free of debris and ready to receive your natural stone tile.

Plan Your Layout: It can be helpful to dry-lay your tiles to determine the arrangement you prefer — and to minimize any potential mistakes. This is easiest when you are using natural stone tile for flooring, but you can also sketch out how you want your tile to appear on a backsplash or wall. Also, don't ignore the age-old advice: Measure twice and cut once! That way, you can minimize waste.

Apply Mortar: Once you're ready to lay your natural stone tile, use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thin-set mortar that's suitable for your specific tile onto the clean surface.

Lay the Tile: Press each tile firmly into the mortar, using spacers to maintain those evenly proportioned grout lines that are essential to a professional-looking finish.

Cut Your Tile: With a wet saw, cut the stone tile into the sizes you need to fit corners and other spaces where the regular-size tiles cannot accommodate.

Use a high-quality, penetrating sealer to protect your natural stone tile from any moisture and stains. Riad Tile recommends the Miracle 511 Porous Plus sealer for many natural stone tiles. For your planning purposes, the quart size covers 200 to 250 square feet, while the gallon size covers 500 to 750 square feet.

When to Hire a Pro

For those who prefer to leave the installation to the experts to ensure a flawless finish and long-lasting durability, consider hiring a professional installer. This can be especially important if you're dealing with intricate patterns (like herringbone or checkerboard layouts), if you need to cover a large space, or if you just don't want to deal with the mess and stress of DIY.

Professional tile setters will provide the correct spacing, proper sealing, and an overall polished look. At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully.

How to Clean Natural Stone Tile

While natural stone is durable, it still needs some TLC to stay as gorgeous as possible. Here's how to keep it looking its best:

Maintain Regular Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

Keep Surfaces Dry: If your natural stone tile is in a moisture-rich environment — like the tile floor of a bathroom or a shower wall — it's helpful to dry off the tile to avoid any water stains or the buildup of mildew.

Use Appropriate Mopping Solutions: Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner with a damp, soft mop to avoid damaging or scratching the surface of your tile.

Manage Stain Care: Clean any spills immediately to prevent any possible staining, especially with acidic or highly pigmented substances — like that glass of wine that got knocked over. If a stain does happen, consider using a mild dish soap with warm water for oil-based stains and a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution for organic stains like food and drink, leaves, and more.

Keep Up Periodic Sealing: Apply a stone sealer, like the Miracle 511 Porous Plus Sealer, every one to two years to ensure your natural stone tile is continually protected against moisture and stains — particularly in areas with moisture like bathrooms and kitchen backsplashes.

Natural Stone Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide
Grout Selections
Grout Selections

Grout Selections

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/grout-selections

Congratulations! You’ve made the perfect tile selection. Now you have another decision to make – grout. While this might seem like an inconsequential choice, it’s quite important. The right grout can really make or break the look of your installation. Not only is it important from a durability and maintenance standpoint, but the color choice can really influence the overall aesthetic. So how do you know where to begin?

The most important thing is to consider the tile choice. Regardless of where you purchase your tile (although bonus points if you purchased from Riad Tile), the distributer or manufacturer will more than likely have a recommended grout type for your specific tile. It’s always a good choice to start there.

Different tile types will determine what kind of grout it is recommended you use. Larger format tile will use a sanded grout to prevent shrinking and allow for a stronger bond. For smaller format tile, or mosaics, an unsanded grout is recommended to prevent scratching. While a ceramic tile can usually use most any type of grout, it is typically recommended to use a flexible grout to allow for the stone’s natural movement as the temperature changes.

Any designer or contractor will tell you to anticipate some movement, especially depending on where you live. Where we’re located in Texas, it is quite common to have foundational shifts in your home. Your actual foundation might have a lot to do with that as well. The right grout can alleviate some inevitable cracks that will happen throughout the lifespan of your home. From experience, I can tell you that cracked grout is much easier to fix than a cracked tile.

It's also important to follow your manufacturer or distributor’s recommended sealer (and order of use) for your installed product. While grout can also be cleaned, it will be much easier to maintain in the long run if you are following your installation guidelines.

As you can probably imagine, color is also crucial! In most cases, it’s a safe bet to select a color that closely matches the material. At a minimum, we would recommend that it is the same hue. This creates a seamless installation and doesn’t draw attention to any flaws. Tile installation is done by hand and it’s normal to have some variances even with mesh mounted mosaics.

For a while, there was a contrasting grout trend where white tile was often grouted with black grout. It was extremely difficult to achieve a perfect install and often just looked sloppy. Moral of the story - keep it timeless! Pick something close in color to your material.

We don’t hide our love affair with Zellige, the glazed Moroccan tile that has become synonymous with Riad tile. We always tell our customers that due to its handmade characteristics, there will be imperfections. It is hand chiseled in Fes, loaded onto a truck, driven to Casablanca where it is then transferred to a container to be stacked on a ship. After that, it makes a very long journey to a port in the United States before being driven to our warehouse here in Dallas. That adventure doesn’t even include the transport time to its destination – YOU! Given all that movement, you can imagine there is quite a bit of jostling which leads to some chips in the glaze. This is normal and adds to the overall character of this material. Grout is a major player in a Zellige install. It unifies and disguises many of these chips while also creating a subtle backdrop for this beautiful product.

If you’ve checked out our Zellige offerings lately, you’ve likely noticed the variety of colors available. No, grout doesn’t come in merlot or sky blue unfortunately. In these cases, we’d recommend a warm or cool grey that is similar in tone to your selected color. The goal is to make sure that the grout doesn’t conflict with your tile. You want it to kind of disappear. If you’re ever stuck or need assistance, our showroom is happy to help! We also have several boards mocked up with grout options so you can see those in person and help you visualize those pairings for your own space.

Slate Tile 101: Your Ultimate Guide to This Natural Stone

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/slate-tile-101-your-ultimate-guide-to-this-natural-stone

While some may not think of slate tile as having the same alluring star factor of something like a Casablanca Viola Marble, this natural stone is no shrinking violet.

Slate tile may be more subtle, but it can easily transform a space with its refined grace — and it also can play an incredible supporting role to other tile design choices.Because it's so versatile, it's also an excellent tile to use in both modern and traditional settings.

Here's a slate tile primer to introduce you to everything you need to know about this understated yet still statement-making natural stone.

What Is Slate Tile?

If slate tile had an IMDb celebrity profile, it would read something like this: This natural stone embodies elemental strength and versatility — that's because it's the product of the same geologic forces that form mountains. Yes, mountains! Slate is a fine-grained rock that's birthed under extreme heat and pressure, yielding a highly durable, dense stone that's as versatile as it is stunning.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the biggest calling cards of slate tile — and why it's so universally appealing — is its natural variation in color and texture. It's as practical as it is beautiful for both residential and commercial use.

Riad Tile offers high-quality Brazilian Slate in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, each showcasing deep tones of both black and grey with minimal clefting to give a modern yet organic feel. No two tiles are exactly alike, meaning slate tile is sure to add depth and character to any space.

How to Use Slate Tile

The sky's the limit for how you can cast slate tile's character in a property. Because of its durability, it's incredibly versatile for a wide variety of applications, including:

Flooring: Slate tile for flooring is ideal for high-traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways due to its naturally slip-resistant quality and tactile durability.

Shower Walls: In addition to slate tile floors in bathrooms, this stone is a popular choice for shower walls, too. Just make sure you use the proper sealing for any areas that are frequently in touch with water — more on that in the installation section below.

Kitchen Backsplashes: Because slate tile integrates so well with granite, marble, and other stones commonly used in kitchens, it's an excellent choice for a more neutral yet statement-making backsplash.

Accent Walls: Slate tile can add natural texture and depth to walls, creating a stunning accent in living areas, bathrooms, foyers, and more.

Fireplaces: Both heat-resistant and aesthetically pleasing, slate tiles make for a striking yet pleasantly neutral fireplace surround. It's an unexpected substitute for brick or other types of tiles.

Outdoor Living: Because slate tile is also weather-resistant (it's the stuff of mountains!), it is ideal for any outdoor living and dining environments, including outdoor slate tile floors for patios and decks, as well as backsplashes for outdoor bars and kitchens. It can also be integrated into garden pathways, pool surrounds, and much, much more.

Design Ideas for Slate Tile

From an aesthetic standpoint, slate tile fits into almost any aesthetic — from modern and contemporary styles to more traditional and transitional moods. It adds a bit more interest than typical neutrals might — meaning, there are so many uses for this tile!

Here are just a few:

Bridging the Style Gap

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_LQwqFqIiD/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading

Consider using slate tile in combination with many other colors, designs, and textures. The richness of the slate combined with its smooth-yet-matte finish makes it a perfect partner next to virtually any other element.

With slate tile as a consistent element throughout a home or commercial property, you can effortlessly tie together design aesthetics from different rooms and styles.

Indoor-Outdoor Living

https://www.instagram.com/p/C9OOFGXN0aQ/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading

Having a backyard party? Hoping to give the kids a safe space to work in the sunshine? Adding slate tile to your home's indoor-outdoor living space is the perfect way to enjoy nature all year long.

Riad Tile's Grey 12"x24" Brazilian Slate and its Black 12"x24" Slate counterpart can create a fun pattern for indoor-outdoor flooring — a spin on the traditional checkerboard patterns!

Au Naturel

https://www.instagram.com/p/DDowSVmTPLA/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading

One of slate's most significant selling points is its features — the subtle changes in texture, the color variation, and the matte finish. It's a fantastic choice for homeowners and designers who want a natural look for flooring.

For example, the warm and earthy qualities of Riad Tile's Grey 10" Hex Brazilian Slate boasts a matte finish that pairs beautifully with Natural White Zellige on shower walls and the gold hardware.

How to Install Slate Tile

For those who are comfortable with a DIY project, it is possible to install slate tile yourself. Here's a general step-by-step overview along with the tools and materials you'll need.

Required Tools and Materials

Thin-set mortar

Notched trowel

Tile spacers

Rubber float

Grout

Sealer (penetrating stone sealer recommended)

Wet saw (for cutting tiles)

Level and measuring tape

Your slate tile of choice!

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prep Your Surface: Ensure the surface — whether it's a subfloor, wall, or outdoor area — is clean, level, and free of debris and ready to receive your slate tile.

  2. Plan Your Layout: It can be helpful to dry-lay your tiles to determine the arrangement you prefer — and to minimize any potential mistakes. This is easiest when you are using slate tile for flooring, but you can also sketch out how you want your slate tile to appear on a backsplash or wall. Also, don't ignore the age-old advice: Measure twice and cut once! That way, you can minimize waste.

  3. Apply Mortar: Once you're ready to lay your slate tile, use a notched trowel to spread a layer of thin-set mortar onto your clean surface.

  4. Lay the Slate Tile: Press each slate tile firmly into the mortar, using spacers to maintain those evenly proportioned grout lines that are essential to a professional-looking finish.

  5. Cut Your Tile: With a wet saw, cut the slate tile into the sizes you need to fit corners and other spaces where the regular-size tiles cannot accommodate. Note: It's critical to use a wet saw rather than another type of saw, as it prevents chipping.

  6. Apply Grout: Once the mortar sets, remove the spacers and fill them with grout using a rubber float. At Riad Tile, we highly recommend using Mapei Flexcolor CQ grout. It's available at Lowe's and Floor and Decor. Just know that some options can stain natural stone, so make sure whichever one you choose is non-sanded and stone-safe.

  7. Don't Forget to Seal: Don't skip this step! Use a high-quality, penetrating sealer to protect your slate tile from any moisture and stains. Riad Tile recommends the Miracle 511 Porous Plus sealer. For your planning purposes, the quart size covers 200 to 250 square feet, while the gallon size covers 500 to 750 square feet.

For those who prefer to leave the installation to the experts to ensure a flawless finish and long-lasting durability, consider hiring a professional installer. Professional tile setters will provide the correct spacing, proper sealing, and an overall polished look. At Riad Tile, we can connect you with recommended contractors to get the job done both efficiently and beautifully.

How Do You Clean Slate Tile?

Slate tile is a relatively low-maintenance natural stone (no drama here!), but regular cleaning is essential to preserve its quality and natural beauty.

Here are a few cleaning considerations for your slate tile:

Maintain Regular Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

Keep Surfaces Dry: If your tile is in a moisture-rich environment — like the slate tile floor of a bathroom or a shower wall — it's helpful to dry off the tile to avoid any water stains or the buildup of mildew.

Use Appropriate Mopping Solutions: Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner with a damp, soft mop to avoid damaging or scratching the surface of your slate tile.

Keep Up Periodic Sealing: Apply a stone sealer, like the Miracle 511 Porous Plus Sealer, every one to two years to ensure your slate tile is continually protected against moisture and stains —particularly in areas with moisture like bathrooms and kitchen backsplashes.

Where to Buy Slate Tile

If you're looking for high-quality slate tile, Riad Tile offers premium Brazilian Slate in beautiful black and grey tones and a variety of sizes. You can purchase Riad's slate tiles online for delivery straight to your door or in our Dallas showroom, where you can see the beauty of Brazilian Slate in person.

Inspiration for Riad Tile's Brazilian Slate Collection

The Brazilian Slate collection comes in both black and grey tones and is perfect for interior or exterior use. Here are just a few ways you could think about using the different slate tile options in our collection:

Use Riad's 10" Hexagonal Black Slate tile to make a sleek, modern bar.

Build a dramatic, subway-style look on your kitchen backsplash with the 4"x12" Black Slate.

Try the 4"x12" Grey tiles to brighten any modern bathroom; create a unique chevron pattern with a lighter-colored grout to really make them pop.

Embrace the Beauty of Patterned Tile: A Stylish Touch for Every Space

When it comes to transforming a home, or commercial space, there’s one design element that stands out for its timeless appeal and unmatched versatility: patterned tile. Whether you're renovating a bathroom, creating a kitchen backsplash, or laying down a statement floor, patterned tiles provide an artistic and unique flair that can elevate any space. For designers, or homeowners looking for something truly special and unique, choosing artisanal patterned tile can be a game-changer. At Riad Tile, we believe in celebrating the craftsmanship and creativity behind every piece, offering tiles that are not only functional but also works of art.

What Are Patterned Tiles?

Patterned tiles are a perfect blend of form and function, where style meets practicality. These tiles are available in various shapes, sizes, and colors, showcasing intricate designs and motifs that can range from modern geometric patterns to traditional, nature-inspired ones. Whether you prefer a bold, dramatic design or something more subtle and refined, patterned tiles allow you to express your unique personality and vision.

Handcrafted by skilled artisans, each tile is made with attention to detail, ensuring high-quality designs that stand the test of time. The beauty of patterned tiles lies in their ability to transform a dull space into a captivating environment filled with texture and character.

Why Choose Artisan Patterned Tiles?

Unique and Authentic Designs Artisan tiles stand out for their individuality. When you choose handcrafted patterned tiles, you’re investing in something that is unique to you. Unlike mass-produced tiles, each piece is carefully made with artisanal techniques that give it a distinct look and feel. At Riad Tile, we bring a vast variety of pattered tile design options that allow you to create a one-of-a-kind piece that perfectly complements your style.

Endless Variety Patterned tiles come in endless styles—from Moroccan-inspired designs with intricate geometric patterns to bold Mediterranean florals and earthy vintage aesthetics. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to mix and match different patterns, colors, and textures. Whether you're creating a bold statement wall or a more subtle accent, our collection caters to every design sensibility.

Quality Craftsmanship When you choose artisanal tiles, you're choosing quality craftsmanship. Our artisan tiles are made with durable materials such as ceramic, terracotta, and porcelain, ensuring that they will last for years to come. Each tile is carefully fired and glazed, ensuring both beauty and resilience to withstand everyday wear and tear.

Sustainable and Ethical Artisan tile production often involves sustainable practices, using locally sourced materials and eco-friendly methods. By supporting artisans and small-scale manufacturers, you're contributing to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship and ethical production practices. This not only makes your tiles more meaningful but also helps protect the environment.

Where to Use Patterned Tiles in Your Home?

Patterned tiles can be used throughout your home, adding character to virtually any space:

Kitchens: A patterned backsplash can act as a focal point, transforming an otherwise mundane space into a vibrant kitchen. Choose a striking color scheme or a geometric design to make a statement behind your stove or sink.

Bathrooms: From shower walls to bathroom floors, patterned tiles bring an element of luxury and elegance. Consider a bold pattern for your floor to create a chic, spa-like atmosphere or mix different patterns on the walls for a more eclectic style.

Entryways and Hallways: The entrance to your home deserves attention. Patterned tiles in an entryway can provide an inviting atmosphere and set the tone for the rest of your interior.

Living Rooms and Accent Walls: Incorporating patterned tiles as part of a feature wall in your living room or dining area is a great way to add interest and personality to the space.

Outdoor Spaces: Patterned tiles can also be used to create unique patios, garden paths, and outdoor seating areas. The colors and patterns bring life to your outdoor design and make it an extension of your home’s interior style.

How to Incorporate Patterned Tiles Into Your Design

Incorporating patterned tiles doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here are a few tips on how to seamlessly integrate them into your design:

Keep the Rest of the Space Simple Patterned tiles can be bold, so it's often best to keep the surrounding elements neutral and understated. Think white or neutral walls, simple furniture, and clean lines to allow the tiles to shine as the focal point.

Mix and Match Don't be afraid to mix different patterns! By using complementary color palettes or repeating one motif across the space, you can create a harmonious flow while still showcasing the diversity of the tiles.

Create Focal Points If you’re hesitant about covering an entire room in patterned tiles, consider creating a feature wall or accent area. A small section, such as a backsplash or a single wall, can have a dramatic impact without feeling too overwhelming.

Use a Single Pattern for Cohesion If you prefer consistency, using a single patterned tile throughout a room or even throughout your entire home can create cohesion. The repetition of the same design provides a sense of unity and balance.

Use Pattern for Pop For a subtle way to add interest to your décor, you can use patterned tiles as an accent on a plain floor or backsplash. Introducing the pattern every now and then as a subtle way to add flair, color and interest to your space.

The Timeless Appeal of Artisan Tiles

Patterned tiles have a timeless appeal that allows them to fit seamlessly into a wide range of design styles. Whether you're working with a modern minimalist look or a more traditional aesthetic, patterned tiles can add that special touch that makes a space truly unique. As trends come and go, artisan tiles remain a steadfast choice for homeowners who value quality, craftsmanship, and beauty.

At Riad Tile, we are passionate about offering our customers the finest in artisanal craftsmanship and unique, stunning designs. We invite you to explore our collection of patterned tiles and discover the perfect tile to transform your space into something extraordinary.

Pattern Tile – Perfect choice for lasting style

Patterned tile is more than just a decorative element—it’s a way to tell a story, add personality, and infuse a sense of creativity into your home. Whether you’re drawn to bold, colorful patterns or subtle, intricate designs, artisan patterned tiles offer a level of detail and craftsmanship that can’t be matched. By choosing artisan-patterned tiles, you’re not just adding style—you’re bringing beauty and uniqueness into your space for years to come.

10 Enchanting Projects Featuring Zellige Tile

We're not playing favorites, but we have to admit that Zellige tile is a true darling of our collections at Riad Tile. As such, it's one of our best-selling tiles of all time — and for good reason.

Zellige tiles are such a gem — and they are versatile enough to bring their storied allure to nearly any type of space, including floors and walls, water features, and interior and exterior environments.

Born of Moroccan tradition, Zellige tiles are handcrafted with non-refined natural clay from the Fez region — and each tile is unique, with color variations, slight size differences, crazing, and more. These "imperfections" are ultimately what make Zellige tile so perfectly distinct.

To celebrate Zellige tile, check out these 10 recent projects that show off its enchanting qualities.

For the Love of Tile: Riad's Valentine's Day Highlights

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/for-the-love-of-tile-riads-valentines-day-highlights

Valentine's Day is right around the corner — and we have all the heart-eyes for designs that are blushing with all shades of pink, rouge, and more.

And they may not be what you imagine when you "think pink." The color is surprisingly versatile and elevated, especially in tile form and combined with deep, complementary hues or organic, natural tones.

You'll be crushing on these rosy spaces, featuring Riad Tile's diverse range of blushing and beautiful options, in no time.

For the Love of Retro

This little beauty is the result of a collaboration between @groovybuilds and @jchotile95. They overhauled this bathroom, taking it down to the studs. And it was so worth it. We can't stop staring at our 8"x8" Dandelion Terracotta Ceramic tile on the floor. It's a ruddier, retro-mod version of the color pink, with a similar hue reflected on the walls. Don't miss our Cactus Green 2"x8" Matte Ceramic tile on the shower — an unexpected yet striking compliment to the rosier tones, especially when paired with the champagne bronze fixtures.

A Touch of Blush

While our Blush 4"x4" Zellige tile and White 12"x12" Terrazzo tile might seem like an unlikely pair, they are a perfect match, as seen in this primary bathroom from @anadahlmandesigns. We're tickled pink by its calming yet cool flair. The organic quality of the wood vanity and the brushed bronze fixtures offer a sense of grounded sophistication, bringing together the Zellige on the backsplash and terrazzo on the floor in beautiful harmony.

Curves Ahead

Arched and dazzling, this bathroom from Charleston designers @sarahglenninteriors and @rebeccahrumphdesigns is another delightfully different combo of Zellige and terrazzo. We're in love with the curved ceiling, emboldened by our Blush 4"x4" Zellige tile. When partnered with our Terra Terrazzo 12"x12" tile, it's an earthy-meets-elegant, eye-catching tub shower that goes way beyond the norm.

Sunny Charm

If you're star-crossed for this charming sunroom, we don't blame you! Our Terracotta Star & Cross tile is a gorgeous choice on the floor, delivering deep rouge earth tones that have a dreamy, worldly aura. Designer @katepearcevintage is responsible for this warm space that's full of character.

Champagne Dreams

Love is in the air in this workspace — a fabulous office by @jillwhitedesigns for @insurancedealsinheels. The whole space is stunning, but we're clinking to this shimmering, built-in bar where our Blush 2"x6" Thin Bejmat Zellige tile couldn't be dreamier if it tried.

Playful Sophistication

Designed by @marketstudio_interiors with a soft blush palette and elegant brass details, this bathroom strikes an ideal balance between youthful appeal and timeless sophistication. It also shows the versatility of our Blush 2"x6" Thin Bejmat Zellige tile. When organized in this striking pattern, the tile blends playfulness and polish.

MCM Crush

Mid-century modern style is trending — and there are so many ways to approach this aesthetic. Designer @morrisseyhome elevated the MCM vibes in this cute bathroom with the power of pink. Our Blush 12" x 12" Terrazzo tile contributes to the space's sweet yet fresh nod to the retro look.

Why Brazilian Slate Tile is a Home Design Hit

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/why-brazilian-slate-tile-is-a-home-design-hit

One of the hottest trends of the year is Brazilian slate, and we can understand why. This powerhouse neutral can be subtle, take center stage, or fill a functional need in your home renovation.

Bridging the Style Gap

We love how versatile slate tiles can be, especially since they add a bit more interest than typical neutrals might. One of our favorite ways to use our Brazilian slate tiles is in combination with many other colors, designs, and textures. The richness of the slate combined with its smooth yet matte finish makes it easy to install next to virtually any other element. Using slate tile as a consistent element throughout your home can effortlessly tie together design aesthetics from different rooms and styles.

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

This home renovation from @arpidfw in Dallas showcases a stunning variety of upscale finishes, including a few Riad favorites like Casablanca gold marble tile. Our personal favorite, though? The Grey Brazilian Slate 10" Hex in the bathroom.

The dark color ties in with other darker features throughout the home (like the beautiful mudroom cabinets), while the whimsical shape adds interest to match the design features like gold hardware and checkered flooring. Choosing which color, size, and shape of Brazilian slate is right for a project depends on the other elements. Good thing we have lots of options to choose from!

Indoor-Outdoor Living

Because slate tiles are easy to clean and durable. That's why we love using them in areas with a lot of foot traffic. Having a backyard party? Hoping to give the kids a safe space to work in the sunshine? Adding an indoor-outdoor living space to your home is the perfect way to enjoy nature all year long.

During the cold winter months, we dream about year-round sunrooms or outdoor living spaces in warm climates. These visions can easily be a reality with our Brazilian slate tiles to anchor the rooms. While slate is not frost or freeze-proof, you can use it in warm climates for sunrooms and patios that will be somewhat protected.

We love the idea of using our Grey 12"x24" Brazilian Slate and its Black 12"x24" Slate counterpart to create a fun pattern for indoor-outdoor flooring. As a spin on traditional checkerboard patterns, using slate tiles fits in perfectly with the ins and outs of 2025: it's functional, timeless, and a little bit unexpected.

Au Naturel

One of slate's biggest selling points is its natural features — the subtle changes in texture, the color variation, and the matte finish. Because it's also hard and durable, slate is a fantastic choice for homeowners and designers who want a natural look for flooring.

It's no secret that here at Riad Tile we love natural Zellige tiles, but they can be tricky to install on shower floors if you want to avoid uneven surfaces and potentially rough edges. The solution? Slate.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

We love to see the same warm and earthy qualities with this Grey 10" Hex Brazilian Slate that we'd find in a Zellige tile. The matte finish pairs beautifully with the natural white Zellige on the walls and the gold hardware. As a shower floor, the added bonus is slate's natural non-slip surface.

We can envision the many possibilities of using Brazilian slate for flooring, wet bar backsplashes, or an accent wall in the foyer to transition between two spaces. We're definitely adding slate to our list of 2025 must-have materials!

Statement Tile to Showcase Your Personal Style

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/statement-tile-to-showcase-your-personal-style

We love a good neutral tile, but sometimes you want to draw attention to the outstanding color and design work in your space. Fortunately, Riad tile has lots of options that are eye-catching and memorable.

A Breezy Statement Piece

We know you’ve heard the idea that less is more, and that can also be true with tile! We love using breeze blocks to create a look that draws your attention without feeling heavy.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

This outdoor garden niche in @livebishoparts immediately pulls your focus without interfering with the natural vibes of the open-air space. Plus, the patterned design on these Sun Breeze Block tiles makes this spot more like a three-dimensional painting than a structural component.

A Splash of Sprinkled Style

Rather than going big and bold with the pattern, why not sprinkle it in for a more surprising effect? Our Terrazzo tiles run the gamut from understated and neutral to bold and colorful.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

Using a large piece of our Marzipan Terrazzo 24”x24” tile certainly creates a standout look that can also stand up to constant use at @thepeachhouselkld.  Not only is the background color stunning, but the sprinkles of gold, pink, green, and dark blue add a noticeable energy to the tiles. We can’t think of a better way to infuse a space with practical style than these Terrazzo tiles.

A Rainbow of Inspiration

Riad has consistent, high-quality tiles for a reason: We want to bring you the materials to make any design dream shine. Whether you’re using a single tile design to cover a small space or combining multiple tiles across a room, you’ll get the best that Dallas has to offer. One of the perks is that you can design stunning displays like this rainbow wall at Le Fruit in @livebishoparts.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

Because all of these solid ceramic tiles bring saturated color and crisp edges, putting them together for this rainbow effect is nothing short of stunning. We can easily imagine the DIY projects that could capitalize on local colors and personal favorites to create similar rainbow, gradient, and ombre effects.

A Mix and Match Adventure

One of our favorite things about DIY tile projects is that you can choose a combination of tiles that fit perfectly in your space. While we pride ourselves on being the best tile shop in Dallas, we also know that designers and DIY enthusiasts ultimately have the most creative ideas. Designers @groovybuilds proved us right with their outstanding combination of tiles in a renovated bathroom.

The 2”x8” Cactus ceramic tiles and 8”x8” Dandelion ceramic Terracotta tiles are noteworthy individually, but pairing them in this bathroom is what really elevates the look. Your eye is drawn from the doorway to the bold, solid finish in the shower; along the way, you inevitably notice the playful dandelion flooring. A patterned tile in the shower would detract from the flooring, and a solid floor would make the room feel too heavy. Perfect balance, achieved.

A Custom-Designed Mood

While we always marvel at the different ways people can style a single tile design, we also know that sometimes a space just needs that perfect mood-setting look. With our custom tile options at Riad, your imagination’s the limit for design inspiration. One of our favorite retired tile designs would be the perfect place to start.

This Havana Black cement tile married the hardware and cabinetry in this kitchen perfectly. Whether a similar look is your style or you’re imagining something entirely different, custom cement tiles and ceramic pattern tiles can be the perfect way to bring a room together and set the mood.

Trending in Tile: These Styles Will Stand Out in 2025

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/trending-in-tile-these-styles-will-stand-out-in-2025

Ready to make your 2025 tile projects your best yet?

Whether you're tackling a bathroom reno or redoing your kitchen backsplash, you'll want fresh, standout, trendy tile to complete your project. Fortunately, we've rounded up the hottest tile trends of 2025, providing you with all the inspiration and resources you'll need to make your tile the center of attention.

Italian Style Is Trending in Tile

Remember the Tuscan-style kitchen of the early aughts? The look is back, but it's elevated. No longer about monotone beiges and browns, today's Italian style is full of warm colors that reflect the Mediterranean landscape (think sunny yellow, deep burgundy, olive green, and Riad's Aegean Blue shade).

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

Beyond tile colors, there are some styles — namely, classic terrazzo and terracotta — that are perfect for bringing some Tuscan sun into your space.

Retro Pastels Are Back

The baby blues, powdery pinks, minty greens, and gentle yellows of the 50s are back in vogue, and tile is the perfect vehicle for adding these beautiful pastels to any space.

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

Light blue and muddied pink are both going to be very in during 2025. You can capitalize on the trend (which will remain timeless beyond 2025) with Riad's softest colorways, like Petal or Blush.

If you'd rather lean into stylish green and yellow pastels, you can pair those colors with warm, earthy cabinets and finishes to create a trendy, spa-like atmosphere in your bathroom, capitalizing on another of the year's biggest trends.

Texture Is Essential

Color isn't the only way to add visual interest to your tile. 2025 is the perfect time to experiment with standout tile texture and give your space some extra excitement.

Zellige is a time-tested pick for bringing more feeling and movement to a space. An ancient Moroccan craft, Zellige tile is hand-formed, making each piece unique and interesting. The tile is very trendy itself, but it's also a great way to bring an organic, earthy texture to your space.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

You can also think of texture as a visual effect rather than a touch-based sensation. If you'd rather go this route, try visually engaging tile shapes like Riad's hexagons, trapezoids, diamonds, and ovals, all of which can add eye-popping dimension to your space.

If you're wondering whether this specific tile trend means that smooth, sleek subway tiles are out, don't worry — you can still go with this perennial favorite. But instead of picking the classic white subway tile, try getting creative with color and finish to up the tile's visual allure. Riad offers vivid blue, green, and pink subway sizes in matte and glossy finishes, allowing you to play with the look of a well-loved tile staple and add more texture to your space.

Neutral Is Out — Color Is In

Look — we love our marble. But in 2025, all-white marble tiles don't exactly provide that bright, colorful look that's currently in style. This year, stylists are ditching cold, sterile marble and stone for warm tiles.

A great way to get in on the color movement is to indulge in an on-trend statement backsplash in the kitchen or bathroom. While Riad has a whole spectrum of vibrant shades, we also offer patterns that will make any project pop.

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

Even if you're not outfitting a backsplash, don't be afraid to play with patterns and color in 2025. One unique option for nailing this trend? Go with a stylish metallic finish, available at Riad in 2"x8" or 4"x4" ceramic.

If it's trending in tile, it's available at Riad. See the best selection of stylish tile for yourself by visiting Riad's Dallas tile shop, where you can feel unique textures, pick the right finish, and take home plenty of samples.

As the confetti from your New Year's celebration settles, it gives way to a time for new beginnings and fresh starts. And as you set new intentions for the new year, what better way to embrace this spirit of renewal than with a fresh look for your home? Give yourself the gift of a New Year home makeover! Look to Riad's new arrivals page as inspiration for your remodeling projects.

Resolve to Create Spaces that Match Your Intentions

Your home is your sanctuary. Resolve to create a space that reflects your style and enhances your well-being. With some intentional choices, transform your home's spaces into places to recharge, get inspired, and reconnect with yourself.

Black Brazilian Slate

Our new arrival, Black Brazilian Slate, is an unrefined stone that will add an earthy yet sleek look to your home. Slate durability and natural slip resistance make it ideal for high-traffic areas like entryways, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. The hexagon tiles create a visually interesting pattern for a dramatic accent wall or shower. The heat-resistant material is also perfect for a stylish fireplace.

The textural beauty of this stone and its natural variations draw you in, while its simplicity creates a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. Whether you want urban sophistication or earthy minimalism, this versatile stone is a perfect focal point for your next project.

Black Moroccan Marble

With its tumbled and honed finish, the Black Moroccan Marble offers high quality, sophistication, and elegance. The distinctive white veining against the black background and the unique patterns on each tile create a striking visual appeal. Incorporate the rich and versatile look into your 2025 home remodeling projects with a timeless look that never goes out of style.

Create a dramatic and welcoming entryway with oversized 18"x18" or 12"x24" tiles. It also makes a luxurious choice for bathroom floors or walls. Imagine how it would complement the raw, edgy look of an industrial kitchen as the backsplash or a statement island.

Black Terracotta

Black Terracotta tiles provide a unique mix of natural connection to Southwest style with a more contemporary feel. Their resiliency and coloring make them perfect for well-used spaces and for hiding grime from heavy activity. Look no further for a modern, rustic look that can withstand the elements.

Create a spa-like oasis in your primary bathroom with natural, warm colors for accents in the décor and fixtures to compliment the darker floor or backsplash. They also make for an understated accent wall or fireplace surround, adding a touch of edge to a farmhouse or Southwest-styled room. Black Terracotta creates a grounding element in a space with vibrant colors.

Riad Tiles offers a stunning collection of tiles to create a home environment that nurtures your spirit with spaces that are havens of style, comfort, and inspiration. Let your home reflect the renewed energy and aspirations of the New Year and be a sanctuary to relax, recharge, and embrace your goals. This New Year, resolve to create a home that reflects you at your best.

Riad Tile Wrapped! Our Best Tile Projects From 2024

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/riad-tile-wrapped-our-best-tile-projects-from-2024

Welcome to our Riad Tile Wrapped list for 2024! While we're so excited about what's in store for 2025 — a year that's sure to be filled with more of the best tile projects — we wanted to look back at some of the highlights from the last 12 months.

We can hardly choose a favorite tile project among all the glorious examples from the past year, but here are 10 that made a big impression.

10 Best Tile Projects of 2024

Check out this list of best tile projects for a whole range of Riad Tile-adorned spaces and places that we cannot stop thinking about — and get set to be inspired.

Checkerboard Dreams

While swirling down this staircase is part of the fun of this fabulous, renovated foyer, designed by @noblestudio_interiors, what really caught our eye is the checkerboard marble floor that puts our Casablanca Carrara & Bardiglio Grey 12"x12" Marble to work. The more subtle variation on the ubiquitous black-and-white check is both classic and timeless — and it's absolutely dreamy in this grand entrance.

All-Star Kitchen

When your backsplash becomes the star of the kitchen, you know you've won the culinary game — @kirbykellystudio did the most with our Estrella Black Ceramic Tile for this graphic design, which simultaneously adds a touch of whimsy and elegance to this remodeled, all-star kitchen.

The only thing that can make a Champagne bar in @insurancedealsinheels's office better is our 2"x6" Zellige Tile in Blush. This bar wall is thriving with its pretty-in-pink vibes. We just love how designer @jillwhitedesigns brought a girly yet still professional look to this fabulous space. Cheers!

Easy-Breezy Blocks

Modern Mexican hotspot Leoncito in Las Vegas, Nevada, may have some of the best mole poblano and salt-rimmed mango margaritas around. But our go-to order? The main dish of mid-century mod vibes in their outdoor deck. Riad Tile's Breeze Block – Sun Tiles are a vibrant way to build a half wall around a deck or patio — or to separate distinct areas outside. We love how the sunburst shape translates so radiantly in repetition.

Sunny Side Up

Bishop Arts District's Petite Saison is a charming 150-square-foot retail nook in Dallas, Texas, that transforms every month as a new local artist or designer brings a fresh perspective to the space. But what never changes at this pop-up is its welcoming, sunny spirit, thanks to the French marinière stripes that pair delightfully with Riad's Apricot 4"x12" Cement Tile and White 4"x12" Cement Tile, laid in a striped pattern. Don't miss our Honey 2"x6" Thin Zellige Tile that warmly greets customers at the counter, too.

Feeling Blue

We're awestruck by @rtdesignsf's use of our 2"x8" Blue Cement Tile in this chic design. The room's simplicity exemplifies how pared-back materials can beautifully transform a space — especially with one statement feature, like the floor! In this case, the herringbone pattern of the cerulean tile with white grout offers the perfect balance of blue and white to conjure Mediterranean-inspired images of Greek isle vistas and limestone cliffs.

Full Circle

Dreamy bathrooms never go out of style — and this one from @bonnieharmsdesigns comes full circle with its mod aesthetic. The statement walls were created with our Crest Green 6"x6" Hand Painted Artisan Ceramic Tile. This special tile can be used to make multiple geometric designs, but this variation has us going in circles in the best way possible.

We couldn't help but be tickled pink by this bathroom, designed by @anadahlmandesigns, that featured the 2024 Pantone Color of the Year — Peach Fuzz — along with our Zellige tile. The 4"x4" Zellige Tile in Blush is a delicious treat all on its own, but it's unexpectedly elevated when paired with peach. This beautiful bathroom perfectly showcases the color variations among our handcrafted Zellige tiles, which show up as everything from mauve to rosy pink in the "Blush" colorway. Pure magic!

No matter the season or the weather, this shower delivers rays of sunshine all year long. Riad's Sunny Days 8"x8" Ceramic Tile is nothing short of a sunny delight, as you can see in this cheery design from @gildedheights. The tile brings a bright focal point to the otherwise all-white space. Note: "Sunny Days" also comes in an inverse dark colorway for a sunset twist on this sweet option.

Lots of colorful tile transformations have wowed us, but this one may take the cake. While most nail salons show off their color options using a book or ring of samples, Le Fruit Nails used Riad's 4"x4" Ceramic Tiles in a glossy finish to give their customers a beautiful, practical way to visualize each and every shade.

It’s Cozy Season: 5 Examples of the Transformative Power of Fireplace Tile

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/it-s-cozy-season-5-examples-of-the-transformative-power-of-fireplace-tile

There's a chill in the air, so cue for a crackling fire. Now is the fireplace's time to glow. But what really makes this centerpiece of any room so spectacular is the fireplace tile that adorns it.

Indeed, fireplace tile can transform an entire room. So, in that spirit, we're cozying up to these five beauties that are in season in the winter months — and all year round, too.

It's Fireplace Season! 5 Examples of Striking Fireplace Tile

A Natural Beauty

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Shannon Gordon (@gordonhilldesigns)

Even when there's not a fire burning, this tile fireplace has a scintillating radiance — thanks to the opalescence of our Natural White 2"x6" Zellige tile. When used here as a fireplace tile, it creates a subtle yet striking glow that is perfectly suited to the versatility of Benjamin Moore's Edgecomb Grey paint color, says interior designer @gordonhilldesigns. Taken together, the effect is "crisply tailored as well as softly breezy, velvety, and warm." We couldn't agree more!

White Magic

Think an all-white fireplace is dull? This stunner in white will change your mind. Designer @oakandlineninteriors transformed a dated — and decidedly uninspiring — wall fireplace into a dramatic moment in this living space. You would never know it's the same fireplace! The crisp floor-to-ceiling effect is created with our 2"x8" White Cement Tile that provides the ultimate sleek and chic fireplace facelift.

Grey Area

While this tile fireplace remodel may have lots of grey areas, there is absolute clarity that it is gorgeous in its simplicity. Designer @madisonnicoledesign used our 4"x4" Grey Zellige Tile on the face of the fireplace and then further warmed up the effect with a natural wood mantel, white shiplap, and multiple instances of vibrant green plants.

Blue Zones

We'll live in this "blue zone" any day of the week. Our Aegean Blue 2"x8" Ceramic Tile takes center stage in this fireplace from @modwestmade. The rich blue hue delivers a healthy dose of saturated color that's eye-catching and whimsical. After all, no one ever said a fireplace surround needed to be a shrinking violet — and blue phases aren't just reserved for Picasso and Matisse.

Pattern Play

Think you cannot mix tile patterns? This striking tile fireplace from @staged.spaces may cause you to reconsider. Our Estrella Black Cement Tile on the façade brings geometric intrigue to the crisp, white walls — especially when paired with the complementary yet distinct pattern in our Zanzibar Black Cement Tile on the hearth. Taken together, these tiles bring a global allure to the California cool-meets-western aesthetic.

How White Tile Can Freshen Up Your Space This Season

https://riadtile.com/blogs/blog/how-white-tile-can-freshen-up-your-space-this-season

Winter wonderlands, ice castles, and sparkly accents are filling our inspiration boards this season. And while we love white for its snowy aesthetic, white tile is actually one of the most versatile design elements in our toolbox. From its ability to lighten any space to its impressive role as a unifying neutral, white tile is one of our favorite pieces to incorporate in home renovations.

A Complex Neutral

While white tile definitely fits into the neutral tone category, we love the fact that its variations and undertones are actually quite complex. During the winter months, we’re often looking for retreats that are cozy and inviting without being too overdone.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

The use of our Snow 4”x4” Zellige tile in this stunning bathroom is a perfect example of white’s not-so-boring neutral presence. The tub’s bright, stark white contrasts with the tile’s more complex color variations and beauty. Rather than being surrounded by something sterile, you’re enveloped in a clean and comforting space. The white tile here keeps things peaceful and serene while also making us feel connected with the warmth from the bronze fixtures and sunlight.

Fresh and Airy Vibes

No matter what time of year it is, a fresh and airy bathroom is always a winner. You can’t have a peaceful oasis with heavy walls and ceilings boxing you in.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

The complete shower surround tiled in our Natural White 2”x6” Zellige makes this serene spot feel open despite its small size. Using white tile on the archway also helps add to the feeling of zero gravity you get from such an exquisite and romantic shape. One step into this bathroom, and the weight of the world drops off your shoulders.

A post shared by Riad Tile (@riadtile)

In the kitchen, our Natural White 2”x6” Zellige has the same effect — uplifting energy and momentum. The darker cabinetry and textiles could make the room feel heavy without lighter elements up top. Using white tile helps create movement and interest beyond what a simple white wall could accomplish. This uplifting feeling is a welcome breath of fresh air during a sometimes dark season.

A Natural Complement to Natural Light

One of our favorite things about white tile is its ability to reflect the warmth in natural light. None of the sun’s rays are lost in dark colors. White tile simply radiates the sun’s glow, and that’s something we all need year-round.

There’s no better choice in this bathroom than the combination of a skylight and our White 2”x8” Cement Tile. Even with the three light sources, the darker floor tile gets lost in the shadows. The walls and ceiling, on the other hand, shine. Smart design choices aim to combine elements so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts — with white tile and natural light, the end result is more energizing than you could get with just one component.

We love the fact that incorporating white tile this season can go beyond displays of snowy wonderlands to elevate any space that needs a winter refresh. Browse all our white tile options here!

You can find inspiration everywhere — even in bathroom tile trends 2024, like shimmering jewel tones (Hello, Emerald Green Zellige!) When it comes to tile trends in 2025, some looks never go out of style.

Does that mean the earth-tone subway tiles in kitchen trends 2024 still have a place in your backsplash? In fact, when will earth tones ever go out of place? (Probably never.)

If you're looking for inspiration, check out these fabulous tile designs that can give a space a fresh, updated look in the new year.

Fresh Tile Looks with Timeless Trends in 2025

Classic Checkerboard Tile Stuns Against a Spiral Staircase …

A post shared by Julie Neill (@julieneilldesigns)

Talk about making a grand entrance! You can't ask for anything more stunning than a classic checkerboard marble floor set against a sweeping spiral staircase with geometric stair rail and swirled glass balls. This jaw-dropping foyer design comes from @julieneilldesigns, @noblestudio_interiors, and @kennonconstruction, with photos from @juliawade. Be sure to swipe for the breathtaking downward view!

The round, antique-inspired table complements the timeless flooring and adds a touch of cozy charm. This fresh look pairs classic checkerboard tile design with curvy, swirling architectural and design accents.

…and Beautiful Blue Walls

We're happy that it looks like checkerboard tile will stay in vogue in 2025. Here's another gorgeous look at it:

We can't even imagine any mud in this pristine sea of tranquility, where we will gladly let the hours slip away surrounded by De Nimes blue walls, exquisite cabinetry, and our luxurious Calacatta Gold and Bardiglio Grey marble in an elegant checkerboard beneath our feet — hats off to @jamesmayhomes,  @englishoneighteen, and @laurenkonradphoto for designing and capturing the incredible aesthetic.

The look is timeless and trendy simultaneously — and we love it! Achieve it by balancing a classic checkerboard tile pattern against bold, solid-color walls or cabinets, like this beautiful shade of blue.

Zellige Tile Makes a Subtle Statement

Don't mind us for being thrilled; another timeless tile is staying on trend in 2025: Zellige tile.

In this case, our fan-favorite, Natural White Zellige tile, makes a sublime subtle statement as the perfect neutral backsplash to showcase the extraordinary Studio Green cabinets by Farrow & Ball in this design from @bothmindsdesign.

Notice how the light and dark contrast of the backsplash and cabinetry complement each other and create a warm and inviting kitchen. Because each Moroccan tile is handmade, each one is unique. The slight size and color variations and surface imperfections give Zellige tile the distinct texture and finish that designers and tile customers love.

Snow White Zellige and Warm, Neutral Tile Shades Shine On

Warm, neutral shades are still in, too. Riad's classic Snow White 2"x6" Zellige tile is a rich backsplash and adds fresh flair to this spectacular kitchen design from @ericajames.design. Every accent — including the rustic wood cutting boards, barstools, and bowl of plums — heightens this space's beauty and simple elegance. If you use a neutral tile shade, you can create a lovely visual contrast with darker accents or different textures.

Move Over Neutrals and Make Way for Colors and Patterns

Now that we've confirmed checkerboard tiles will remain classic and timeless, handcrafted Moroccan Zellige tiles and warm, neutral tones will continue to give fresh tile looks in 2025; prepare to make way for some bold tile colors and patterns next year.

Green Hand Painted Artisan Tile looks in this bold bathroom design from @bonnieharmsdesigns and @michaelharrisconstruction. We're spinning with joy at the final reveal.

If injecting pops of bold color in unexpected places is all the rage in 2025, there's not a better example than this crazy cool custom display for @lefruitnails, where no shade was spared for polish choices and colors of ceramic tiles. Look at all those luscious lacquers and get inspired to embrace your bold tile designs.

We're excited to tile our way into the new year and help our customers realize their renovation dreams. Stop by the Riad Tile showroom in Dallas or call us at 972-914-9600 to discuss how we can help you get started today.
