SAFA in talks to move Banyana vs Senegal game due to elections
The South African Football Association (SAFA) is in talks with their Senegalese counterparts to have their first of the two friendlies moved. According to SABC Sport, SAFA wants the match scheduled for Friday, 31 May moved to Saturday, 1 June due to national elections in South Africa. This is to afford every member of the travelling Banyana Banyana squad an opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote on 29 May. Should SAFA be successful in their bid to have this match slightly moved, then Banyana Banyana will depart for Senegal Wednesday night. SAFA WANTS BANYANA BANYANA VS SENEGAL GAME MOVED TO NEW DATE “SABC Sport has learnt that SAFA are currently in talks with their counterparts from Senegal to move the first international friendly match from Friday, 31 May to Saturday, 1 June 2024,” reads part of the report. “This is to accommodate members of the Banyana Banyana squad to vote in the upcoming national elections, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 29 May 2024.” “SABC Sport has it on good authority that SAFA are doing everything in their power to ensure the team gets to exercise their right to vote, with limited disruption to travel logistics to West Africa. “The team is now expected to fly out on the evening of Election Day, arriving in Senegal the next day, and perhaps having one more training session before playing their first match on Saturday, 1 June.” BANYANA BANYANA’S SECOND GAME UNCHANGED Meanwhile, the date for Banyana Banyana’s second international friendly against Senegal remains unchanged at this stage. The two countries will meet for the second time on Tuesday, 4 June as per the current schedule.

Tosin Adarabioyo leaning towards move to Newcastle United Man United News And Transfer News
1 Newcastle United are reportedly looking to secure the signings of Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly. The duo have been previously linked with a move to Old Trafford. Howe and his squad are currently in Australia for exhibition matches against Tottenham and an A-League All Stars team. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s recruitment team is actively working on potential deals ahead of the transfer window reopening. Senior officials at the club have already had detailed discussions about Adarabioyo and Kelly, both of whom will be free agents next month as their contracts with Fulham and Bournemouth respectively expire. Adarabioyo has reportedly decided not to renew his contract with Fulham. According to Scott Wilson, (The Northern Echo) despite interest from Manchester United, the 26-year-old centre-back is understood to be favouring a move to Newcastle. Kelly, on the other hand, will be leaving Bournemouth, where he was initially brought in by Howe during his tenure at the club. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola hinted at Kelly’s departure, stating, “I think probably he will play somewhere else.” Newcastle are confident about securing both players. Howe mentioned that the club has been planning for the summer transfer window since early this year. “My thoughts on the transfer window have probably been there since January, February time. The minute one window shuts, you’re planning for the next one,” Howe explained. United’s recruitment team will need to act swiftly and decisively to secure their targets, ensuring they do not miss out on another one of their key signings.

You can have my fking salary! Pep Lijnders reveals his No.6 promise to Klopp Liverpool FC
Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s move into an inverted full-back was the brainchild of Pep Lijnders, who has revealed he laid down the law for Jurgen Klopp after the manager hesitated over the change. The final run of games in the 2022/23 season saw the Scouser take on a hybrid midfield role at a time when Liverpool were struggling for results and needed energy injected into the middle. It was a move that paid off and was persisted with this season, and even when Alexander-Arnold was not on the pitch, we saw the likes of Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley take on the role. The Redmen TV recently filmed a brilliant tactical deep dive with Lijnders, and the Dutchman discussed his vision for the No. 66 and his passionate promise to Klopp if his idea was dismissed. He explained: “My idea constantly was the best No. 6 I had in the U16s was Trent Alexander-Arnold. “It’s not to only have extra players inside, to have four here (in the midfield), to have the same as what Bobby Firmino did. “But it’s also to have Trent in a position where the ball can fly from left to right. “What I said constantly to Jurgen was, ‘We have to do it.’ ‘But Pep, blah blah blah’. ‘We have to do it’. “Until I was so sick of it that I went to Jurgen in this office and said, ‘Jurgen, next year you can f***ing have all my f***ing salary if we don’t do it in the next game, it’s done for me. I can’t. “‘We need the extra player, we need Trent there. I tell you it will work, it will work’.” His idea certainly had merit and success, and it was interesting to hear Lijnders explain how Roberto Firmino‘s absence at the backend of 2022/23 and his impending departure changed everything. The Brazilian did not play a traditional No. 9 role and was that extra body in midfield, which Lijnders explained “means you can control the game. If you lose the ball, you have players close to each other.” Continuing, he said: “We had only three players [in midfield]. Darwin is not a player to drop deep like that, Lucho can do it but [he’s] a winger and Mo, no. “So now who becomes the extra player there? We can buy a Cody Gakpo to try and do it like that, but he’s a left winger. “We can find a different solution, but you’re searching because you have a game every three days.” It is only one of a number of interesting tactical insights in the deep dive offered by Lijnders, who is now to go out on his own after being appointed as Salzburg’s new manager. As for what Arne Slot has in store for Alexander-Arnold moving forward, time will tell!

Orlando Pirates complete first MAJOR signing
Orlando Pirates complete first MAJOR signing
Orlando Pirates have reportedly completed their first MAJOR signing ahead of the start of the new season in the form of Thalente Mbatha. Mbatha is currently on loan at Pirates from SupeSport United but the Soweto giants had negotiated an option to make the deal permanent. Now, according to Soccer Laduma, Pirates are impressed with Mbatha and they have now secured his services for the next three seasons. The publication further reports that Mbatha will seal his permanent move to Pirates by signing on the dotted line after the Nedbank Cup final. Pirates will take on SuperSport United neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns in the final set to be staged at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, 1 June. And Mbatha is expected to form part of Jose Riveiro’s matchday squad after showing great potential since his move to Pirates. ORLANDO PIRATES SECURE FIRST NEW SIGNING – REPORT “The Siya crew understands Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United will finalise a permanent move for midfielder Thalente Mbatha after the Nedbank Cup final, with a three-year deal expected to be completed,” reads part of the report. “Mbatha signed a loan deal in the January transfer window, with Pirates having an option to make the deal permanent. “As things stand, Pirates are preparing to make the deal permanent and the Siya crew has been informed that all the figures have been pre-agreed, so, the two clubs will not be opening fresh negotiations.” MBATHA DID THE MOST TO EARN BUCS TRUST Despite only arriving in January and making his debut in February, one would say Mbatha has done the most to earn the trust of the Pirates fans. He has amassed 12 league appearances, scored a single goal and provided one assists since his arrival at Pirates. And his rise comes at a time when the majority of football fans begin to question Gavin Hunt’s eye for talent after he couldn’t guarantee Mbatha game time at SuperSport United. Hunt did the same with the late Luke Fleurs who ended up signing for Pirates arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs as a free agent after his release from SuperSport United. Fleurs, however, passed away without kicking a ball in competitive match for the Glamour Boys in April this year.

Mokwena explains why he forces Sundowns players to walk barefoot
“One thing is that I force them to walk barefooted a lot,” said Mokwena. One of Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena’s big challenges is keeping his side motivated between now and the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates on June 1.  ALSO READ: Matthews says Sundowns just want to keep on winning With the DStv Premiership title already wrapped up, Mokwena revealed how he grounds his charges who are unbeaten in 28 games. That record will be under threat again on Tuesday evening when the Brazilians play TS Galaxy in a league encounter at the Mbombela, the same venue that will host the Nedbank Cup decider. Masandawama have to guard against complacency starting with the clash against The Rockets before taking on Cape Town City in the last game of the season. “I treat everybody differently because there’s a certain way I treat Sipho Mbule or Themba Zwane. I treat them all fairly but in different ways,” Mokwena responded when asked how he plans to keep his players focused until the end of the season. “One thing is that I force them to walk barefooted a lot. We do a lot of barefooted walking in training as recovery. Scientifically, it’s been proven that if you walk barefooted, it helps with earthing and getting some form of connection with the ground because we’re all molecules of energy. “We get that sense of grounding by connecting directly to the soil. Especially, if the soil is rich, it’s very beneficial and it’s something that I do a lot myself and I do with the team a lot.” It’s an open secret that Mokwena and his Galaxy counterpart Sead Ramovic don’t see eye to eye. No end in sight on Mokwena, Ramovic row Mokwena fired another shot at his rival ahead of the match while also stressing the importance of remaining consistent as they chase the ultimate record on an unbeaten season. ALSO READ: Kekana tells Chiefs’ Khune to hang up his gloves “My low this season is definitely not with the brawl with the other guy (Ramovic). I told you about fruitless trees because there’s no shade there,” he said. “All the games are very important. The next game is the most important game of our lives. We have to get ready by watching the last few games and try to prepare tactically because the next game will of course be tough.”

Where is Kaizer Chiefs Sergio Ramos today?
Where is Kaizer Chiefs Sergio Ramos today?
Kaizer Chiefs had Tefu Mashamaite to thank for several critical goals, important clearances and plenty in between during his stint at the club. Tefu Mashamaite was a relative goal machine for Kaizer Chiefs Look at many a striker’s goal ratio in the DStv Premiership and the numbers aren’t exactly mind-boggling. Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana would bite your hand off for these stats. Mashamaite bagged 11 goals & five assists in 121 appearances for the Glamour Boys across all competitions. That’s exactly a goal every 11 games. How does that stack up to one of the best defenders in the history of the sport? Real Madrid and Spain icon Sergio Ramos scored a staggering 101 goals in 671 appearances for Los Blancos. He was not only the best defender of his generation but also the best goal-scoring defender the beautiful game has ever seen. To score a goal every 11 appearances in the notoriously low-scoring PSL is quite an achievement. Sergio Ramos clashing with Lionel Messi in El Clasico. PHOTO: CURTO DE LA TORRE / AFP Mashamaite’s CV wasn’t bad! In his heyday, the 39-year-old was a colossus for Chiefs in the centre of defence. He captained Amakhosi between 2011 and 2015 before trying his hand in Sweden with Hacken. He’s a two-time DStv Premiership winner with Chiefs in 2013 and 2015 alongside Bafana legend Tsepo Masilela, making 121 appearances in the black & gold strip. Committed to being a scholar, and maybe a sports lawyer? Mashamaite retired from football in 2018 and launched The Collective Sports Agency (TCSA) three years later. His work in that area isn’t limited to football. In 2005 he graduated with a BA in International Relations and Politics at Wits and got a national certificate in agriculture in 2021. In 2023 he told Radio 2000 that he wants to continue studying. “I’m about to complete my Sports Management studies, through a program run by FIFA. “Upon graduating, I’m hoping to complete my Sports Law diploma, it’s also an international course run by FIFA,” Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite to further his studies. Tefu points to Orlando Pirates and Sundowns as examples Back to the pitch now and Chiefs have one more game of their season and are still unsure of MTN8 qualification for next term. They’ll have to beat relegated Spurs on the final day of the campaign and hope the teams around them in the table don’t manage big wins. The table is so congested that Chiefs, AmaZulu and Polokwane all have 36 points while Golden Arrows have 35 and Chippa have 34. All of these sides are fighting for one place and it could easily boil down to goal difference. AmaZulu and Arrows meet in the only direct battle here. Mashamaite, via iDiskiTimes, pointed to the discernable gap between his old side and the current South African champions Sundowns. Even arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, without a league crown since 2011, have added plenty of silverware to their trophy cabinet in the interim. The Buccaneers did a domestic cup double last season and are just a Nedbank Cup final against Sundowns away from repeating the feat. Liverpool FC coach to stay on as part of Arne Slots staff key for Alisson Liverpool FC
Liverpool goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel is expected to stay at the club as part of Arne Slot‘s backroom staff. Goalkeeper coaches John Achterberg and Jack Robinson have both joined Jurgen Klopp in departing Anfield following Sunday’s win over Wolves, but clarity on Taffarel’s future had not been forthcoming. However, This Is Anfield understands that the 58-year-old is set to remain on Merseyside to work under a new head coach in Slot. Taffarel enjoys a strong working relationship with fellow Brazilian Alisson Becker, who recommended him for a place on the coaching staff back in 2021. As This Is Anfield reported last week, Alisson is keen to stay at Liverpool this summer despite strong interest in his services from Saudi Arabia ahead of the transfer window. And the retention of Taffarel is no doubt aimed at ensuring Liverpool’s number one is as comfortable as possible. The addition of a further goalkeeping coach is still expected as the Reds look to mitigate the departures of Achterberg and Robinson. Feyenoord’s highly-rated coach Jyri Nieminen is thought to be under consideration for a role in Slot’s staff. Speaking after Sunday’s game, Alisson discussed the changes to Liverpool’s goalkeeping department, telling Stadium Astro: “I think all of these guys did an amazing job. “Of course, we wanted to have them more here around [for longer]. In my case as a goalkeeper working directly with Jonny and Jack.” Asked directly if Taffarel would be staying, he added: “Looks like, looks like. “But the experience that we had the last years, I wish I could stay with them more, but it’s not in my hands. I love those guys, not only as goalie coaches but as people as well.”

Bafana Bafana legend calls for Itumeleng Khunes quick retirement
Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfield legend Hlompho Kekana has advised veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune to retire. Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that Khune’s current contract will be his last. Despite this, the 36-year-old expressed his desire to continue playing after a goalless draw with Polokwane City. Chiefs offer coaching role, not playing contract Kaizer Chiefs are ready to offer Khune a position as a goalkeeping coach but are unwilling to renew his contract as a player. Kekana, speaking to SABC’s Soccer Zone, emphasised the importance of accepting reality. “I wish he could understand and face the reality that he will never play forever,” Kekana said. He further advised, “leave the game before you start hating it. The system doesn’t want you anymore. Make sure you move on before resentment sets in.” Khune’s Illustrious Career Bafana Bafana legend Kekana highlighted Khune’s impressive career, noting his achievements with Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs. “He played for Bafana; he captained the Kaizer Chiefs team that won the league. He has done so much. What more does he need to prove, and to whom?” Kekana himself retired at 37 after a decorated career, which included nine DStv Premiership titles—three with SuperSport United and six with Mamelodi Sundowns. Renowned for his long-range goals, his memorable strike from inside his half against Cameroon in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier earned a Fifa Puskas Award nomination. Cavin Johnson’s struggles continue at Kaizer Chiefs Johnson, currently leading Kaizer Chiefs, faces severe criticism as his short tenure shows little improvement. Since taking over in October 2023, Johnson has managed only six wins out of 21 games. Which has led to an inevitable finish no higher than eighth place. Comparatively, Johnson’s performance is dismal. With a winning rate of 29 %, which could improve slightly to 32 % if Chiefs win against Cape Town Spurs. Johnson fares only better than Gavin Hunt, who had a 27.27% win rate. Despite his efforts, Johnson’s record in the Nedbank Cup and league positions highlight his struggles. Johnson’s end-of-season stats are concerning. Winning just one of his last nine games, he faces a must-win scenario against Cape Town Spurs to match Hunt’s exit record of two wins in ten. Other former Chiefs coaches, such as Steve Komphela and Arthur Zwane, exited with better track records, leaving Johnson with a potentially damaging legacy. Will Khune and Johnson Exit Gracefully? The end of the season marks a critical juncture for both Itumeleng Khune and Cavin Johnson. As Khune contemplates his future off the field, Johnson battles to salvage his reputation. The coming weeks will determine if they can leave with dignity or if they will be remembered for overstaying their welcome in South African football.

Kaizer Chiefs to table new deal for star amid overseas interest!
Kaizer Chiefs to table new deal for star amid overseas interest!
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be ready to tie down one of their key defenders to a new deal. Chiefs are ready to make some changes to their playing staff next season, but no everybody is disposable.  Players like Siyethemba Sithebe and Sifiso Hlanti have been mentioned, with their deals up soon. They have been joined by Happy Mashiane and Zitha Kwinika of late. One player that has been fighting those exit rumours at Chiefs is Njabulo Ngcobo. Now besides those names, the likes of Edmilson Dove, George Matlou and Keagan Dolly will see their contracts run out.  Chiefs looking to keep Frosler Players such as Samkelo Zwane, Sabelo Radebe, and even Edson Castillo have been mentioned as possible exits at Chiefs. One of the players they could be willing to keep is right-back Reeve Frosler. According to Soccer-Laduma the club are looking to stave off overseas-interest by offering him a new deal.  “The new deal is expected to kick in at the end if next season but they had to deal with it as soon as possible because he (Frosler) will soon turn into a free agent. From December, he will have remaining just six months and anything is possible so they (Chiefs) didn’t want to take that risk hence the offer for a new three-year deal. It could not be fully done yet but it’s on the table already,” said the source to publication.  Another source explains that Chiefs see Frosler as part of a plan to keep defensive solidarity for years to come. This could see him partner with Given Msimango and Thatoyoane Dithlokwe and a potential new left-back for the long-term.  Long-term vision in place “You know the main right back, it’s him (Frosler) and then Dillon Solomons and they will all be in the team for the next two seasons or so. Solomons’ contract runs until June 2026 so if Frosler’s one runs until June 2028 then they can bring in the young players from their development gradually during the next period. That’s why they are willing to keep Frosler for another three years from next year,” said the source.  At times this season, Chiefs’ defence was the best part of their game. Frosler being key in that, could be a smart extension from the club.

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs skipper suggests they copy Orlando Pirates
Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite believes his team must imitate what Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have done in recent years. Mashamaite calls for modernity at Kaizer Chiefs “Modernisation. The perfect example is Sundowns,” Mashamaite told iDiski Times. “What Sundowns has done was very, very revolutionary even though at the end of the day people say they used money to buy success. This is where the football future is heading. “I remember when we played in the Confederations Cup I think in 2017 in Gabon. We happened to be travelling on the same flight as Flight Mohale. He was then given the responsibility to be one of the scouts. “I know the scouting network at Sundowns is very huge and people don’t realise that scouting is a career now. You need to be trained to be a scout. “Also when it comes to choosing a coach, the coach has to resonate with the culture and the philosophy of where the club is trying to go. Sundowns have done that well. “Every player that Sundowns scouts and eventually buys, they identify to say this is the player that we want. I don’t think Chiefs have really invested in that. “Football right now is an institution, you cannot just choose a coach, buy players willy-nilly like, ‘Oh this player is playing for Chippa United, he scored 20 goals this season,’ and you buy him. “Does he fit into the culture and the philosophy of Chiefs? If he doesn’t then don’t buy him. So Chiefs haven’t really like invested in that.” Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite to further his studies. Midfielder sealed in a permanent contract
Midfielder sealed in a permanent contract
Orlando Pirates deal is set to be sealed for a standout midfielder in a permanent contract, following the Nedbank Cup final. Thalente Mbatha, the 24-year-old has shined since his January loan transfer from SuperSport United. Mbatha has made a lasting impression on Pirates’ fans and management alike. All terms for a three-year deal have been pre-agreed, ensuring no need for fresh negotiations. Mbatha’s transition to the Pirates has been seamless, transforming from a SuperSport United benchwarmer to a regular starter for the Buccaneers. His solid performances have quickly made him a fan favourite with the “Happy People”. Speaking to Soccer Laduma, SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews confirmed the imminent deal. “Pirates have an option on Thalente(Mbatha) which we will finalise after the Nedbank Cup final.” Orlando Pirates deal: Agent confirms permanent move Mbatha’s agent, Mike Makaab, expressed confidence in the deal’s completion. “In the loan agreement, Pirates hold the final say. All financial terms are pre-agreed, so there’s no need for renegotiation. I would be very surprised if the permanent move does not happen.” Tshegofatso Mabasa’s impact lauded by teammate While Mbatha’s future looks bright, another Pirates player, Tshegofatso Mabasa, has also been making headlines. Midfielder Kabelo Dlamini praised Mabasa’s remarkable comeback since returning from a loan spell at Moroka Swallows. Mabasa has netted nine of his 15 DStv Premiership goals this season for Pirates, demonstrating his critical role in the team’s late-season surge. Dlamini shared his admiration, saying. “I’ve always believed Mabasa is a top striker. He is one of the best in South Africa. I am happy that he is back, performing well, and helping the team, especially in the second half of the season.” Crucial final match for CAF Champions League qualification The Buccaneers face a do-or-die scenario in their final match against SuperSport United. Currently in third place, they need a win and a slip-up from second-placed Stellenbosch to secure a spot in next season’s CAF Champions League. A draw would suffice if Stellenbosch loses, thanks to Pirates’ superior goal difference. In other news, Kegan Johannes has emerged as a prime target for the top three PSL clubs, including Orlando Pirates. They have expressed a keen interest in the South African youth international. Johannes has also signed a new contract extension with SuperSport United. The defender has agreed to stay with the club for another two years, with the option to remain until 2026. But it is not seen as a stumbling block at the moment.  Orlando Pirates fans are eagerly awaiting the outcomes, with Mbatha’s permanent signing, the crucial final match holding the potential to shape the team’s future significantly and news on Johannes as he recently underwent a minor surgery.

Marcus Rashford not included in Englands Euro 2024 squad Man United News And Transfer News
1 Marcus Rashford’s dismal campaign for Manchester United has cost him his place in the England national team for the upcoming European Championships. As revealed by The Athletic, the Mancunian will not be called up by Gareth Southgate after the forward scored only eight times for the Red Devils throughout the season. “Marcus Rashford has not been included in England’s squad for Euro 2024,” David Ornstein wrote in what will be a huge blow to the 26-year-old. “Gareth Southgate will confirm an expanded preliminary squad for the tournament in Germany at 2pm BST this afternoon before cutting it to 26 players ahead of the UEFA deadline on June 7.” Rashford misses the Euro cut Rashford, who had made his debut back in 2016, has won 60 caps for the Three Lions, scoring 17 goals. After a career-best display for his boyhood club last season in which he scored 30 times in all competitions, United boss Erik ten Hag must have felt the Englishman would keep performing in the same vein. Rashford had earned a brand-new lucrative five-year deal based on the form he exhibited in the 21/22 campaign. But that was not to be. More importantly, apart from his poor on-field displays, his off-field exploits garnered a lot of unwanted attention, something which did not please his club and national team boss. Rashford was caught partying after a Manchester derby defeat while he called in sick after going on a 12-hour drinking spree, with Southgate warning him of the consequences of not getting his act straight. Poor season for Rashford And those consequences have now revealed themselves with Rashford missing out despite his strong form for his country. The United academy graduate had scored thrice in the World Cup at Qatar. But his form since has taken a sharp nosedive with two goals in his last 10 appearances. His future at United is also uncertain with INEOS opening to move him on. The player is said to have held a meeting with the owners in a bid to save his career. Luke Shaw is likely to get called up in a bid to prove his fitness while Harry Maguire also remains a doubt. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Who holds the record for most PSL goals scored in a season?
Who holds the record for most PSL goals scored in a season?
The race for Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot bragging rights as the country’s top goal scorer in this season’s DStv Premiership will be decided on the final weekend. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Realistically, five players stand a chance of walking away the winner of the coveted award. But none them will come close to the all-time record number of goals scored in a single top-flight season in South Africa. The five players to have scored double-digit goals this campaign are: 1. Tshegofatso Mabasa (Swallows / Orlando Pirates) – 15 2. Iqraam Rayners (Stellenbosch FC) – 14 3. Lucas Ribeiro Costa (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 12 4. Bradley Grobler (SuperSport United) – 11 5. Khanyiso Mayo (Cape Town City FC) – 10 One has to go all the way back to the 2004/2005 season for the record goals scored by a player in a PSL season. That season, Kaizer Chiefs’ Zambian marksman Collins Mbesuma found the back of the net on 25 occasions. Mbesuma would go on to win the award for a second time in the 2015/2016 season. Peter Shalulile The closest a player has come to breaking that 25-goal mark was in the 2021/2022 season when Namibia’s Peter Shalulile scored 23 goals for Mamelodi Sundowns. Shalulile holds the record for Golden Boot awards won with three from the 2019/2020 (shared), 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 (shared) seasons. Lesley Manyathela himself won the Golden Boot award in the 2002/2023 season when he scored 18 goals for Orlando Pirates. Tragically, on 9 August 2003, following a match against Jomo Cosmos, Manyathela was killed in an accident after his car overturned on the N1 highway near his hometown of Musina. He was 21.

Five most USELESS Kaizer Chiefs signings in the past 20 years
Kaizer Chiefs has had some questionable signings in the past 20 years with the likes of Serge Djiéhoua coming to mind. Under the leadership of the late Ted Dumitru, Amakhosi won back-to-back league titles in 2004 and 2005. The wheels came off when the Romanian coach left to coach the national team. Chiefs still won domestic cups but failed to challenge for the league for eight years during that time. Stuart Baxter took over in 2012 and led Amakhosi to two league doubles. Since his departure in 2015, Kaizer Chiefs have not tasted silverware despite dozens of signings over the years. Eight different coaches have come and left Naturena but failed to improve the club. Here are some five questionable signings the club has made in the past. Kaizer Chiefs signings who flopped big-time Serge Djiéhoua The bulky Ivorian striker was seen as a perfect replacement for Collins Mbesuma in 2005. He failed to live up to expectations – scoring just five goals in the PSL in two seasons. To this day, Kaizer Chiefs fans are still asking themselves what the club was thinking signing Djiehoua. Kabelo Metsimetsi The former acrobatic goalkeeper Kabelo Metsimetsi was signed from Carrara Kicks having impressed in the Nedbank Cup. He played his first official match for Amakhosi against Ajax Cape Town in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal in 2009. After a few mistakes, the game ended 3-3 which saw Amakhosi eliminated. From then on, it was game over for him and was eventually released in 2012. Zhaimu ‘Jimmy’ Jambo In 2009, Kaizer Chiefs made three signings in Zimbabwe. Thomas Sweswe, Knowledge Musona and Jimmy Jambo were brought to Naturena which led fans to believe the club was on a ‘buy one, get two for free’ clause. Jambo struggled for game-time initially but with Onismor Bhasera and Punch Masenamela leaving the club, the Zimbabwean failed to take his opportunity. He was eventually released in 2014 making him and Sweswe’s signings at Kaizer Chiefs useless. Katlego Mphela Killer is arguably one of the best local strikers in the past 20 years. A move to Amakhosi in 2014 was a shock given the star’s relationship with then-Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane. Having scored 48 times in 116 matches for Masanadwana, fans expected Mphela to shine at Chiefs. Despite having just turned 30 at the time, Killer failed at Chiefs, lasting only one season. Amakhosi also failed to bring good coaches Jasond Gonzalez Kaizer Chiefs’ signings this season have been very questionable. One player that was hyped is Colombian striker Gozalez. The tall forward played 10 games for Amakhosi this season but failed to find the back of the net.

He also won the Champions League with Bayern Munich before joining the Spanish giants. Kroos joined Real in 2014 and quickly formed a formidable midfield partnership with Luka Modric. In a statement on their website, Real said Kroos “will go down in Real Madrid history as one of our club and international football’s greatest legends”. Kroos has also won the Liga title four times. He announced he was quitting international football in July 2021 but reversed his decision in February after talks with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, who persuaded him to play on till the Euro 2024 on home soil. “My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level,” Kroos said on Instagram. “I am happy and proud that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it on my own.” ALSO READ: Barcelona coach Xavi set for sack – reports Kroos was one of the key players when Germany won the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and scored twice when they inflicted a 7-1 defeat on the host nation in the semi-finals. Is this the role Itumeleng Khune will accept at Kaizer Chiefs?
Kaizer Chiefs honoured long-serving captain Itumeleng Khune, for his 25 years of service to the club.  This Khune tribute took place before Chiefs’ last home game of the season, against Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium.  Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! With Chiefs still having a lot to play for, with regards to securing their top eight hopes, they didn’t deliver. Three points would’ve been the order of the day, but in the end they had to settle for a point, which keeps them in eighth going to the last day. It would not just be a watching brief for Khune, though as he ended up coming on to make his fifth appearance of the season, off the bench.  Khune’s future on the line Many in the stadium gave him an ovation in what they felt as if, was his last home game for Chiefs. Luckily for him and the club, he was able to at least maintain the clean sheet. After the goalless draw, however, he spoke to the media, in a post-match press conference. Khune made it clear that the occasion was a tribute and not necessarily a last game before retirement!  This publication reported on Sunday that Khune had stated the club was honouring him for his 25-year service. Chiefs did not say that he was retiring. Earlier on Tuesday, this publication reported the veteran goal minder is ready to leave Amakhosi if it means continuing his playing career. But now according to The Citizen he has a role waiting for him in the club’s development structures.  Chiefs new role? “The chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung has a soft spot for Khune after he served the club so well over the years. He doesn’t want to see all his knowledge lost to football and the club is discussing the possibility of keeping him in a different capacity. The other thing is that Khune would have liked to continue playing for at least one more season but he respects the club’s decision. I expect an announcement to be made when the season ends as to what will happen to skipper.” Said a source to the publication.  There were murmurs of Sekhukhune United monitoring Khune’s situation at Chiefs. Could that be an option still?

Arne Slot sees Darwin Nunez as critical to Liverpool moving forward Liverpool FC
Arne Slot sees Darwin Nunez as critical to Liverpool moving forward Liverpool FC
Doubts over Darwin Nunez‘s future at Liverpool appeared to have been answered by the appointment of Arne Slot, who sees the striker as “critical” to his plans. Nunez ended the season on a 10-game goal drought, failing to start any of the final four fixtures, with speculation over whether he could leave. But the Uruguayan, who still ended the campaign with 18 goals and 13 assists to sit behind only Mo Salah on both, is expected to stay. That comes with new head coach Slot planning to work closely with a player he views as “critical” to the future of Liverpool. The Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe reports that Slot, who was officially announced on Monday, “name-checked him as one of the many players he is excited to work with.” Slot held meetings with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes in Rotterdam, prior to a deal being struck, and made it clear his admiration for Nunez. The Guardian‘s Andy Hunter is another to report that the Dutchman is “keen to work” with Nunez, with the Times‘ Paul Joyce explaining he is seen as possessing “attributes which can be polished.” A comparison has been made with Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord, with the Mexican striker scoring 49 goals in 86 appearances under Slot having previously only struck 21 times in 105 games for Cruz Azul. “Slot has been known to try to rebuild the confidence of forwards during analysis sessions by stopping a video ‘just as he shoots the ball wide’ to help his players absorb explanations,” Joyce writes. There is clearly immense potential in Nunez, but many have lost patience with the No. 9 for the sheer number of big chances missed. Per FotMob, only Erling Haaland (34) missed more big chances in this season’s Premier League than Nunez (27), but did so while outscoring the Liverpool striker by 27 goals to 11. Many of Nunez’s efforts came in lesser competitions, with seven goals and five assists in 18 games across the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Still, there is talent to be moulded and Slot seemingly believes he is the coach to do it, likely noting that Nunez averaged a direct goal contribution every 97.6 minutes in 2023/24. That is metric which will surely endear the striker to Michael Edwards, too, with his underlying numbers evidence that he is worth the effort.

Whilst, they lead the way for Singhs signature with African giants Al Ahli also interested, according to Briefly. Meanwhile, Amakhosi face stiff competition from Pirates and Sundowns for AmaZulu attacker, Moremi. The Usuthu man is hot property having attracted all of the PSL’s “Big Three”. Liverpool receive early transfer interest Championship club want midfielder Liverpool FC
Liverpool receive early transfer interest Championship club want midfielder Liverpool FC
The season only finished two days ago but Liverpool are already fielding interest for the summer transfer window, with Hull City hoping for another loan deal. Liverpool waved goodbye to Jurgen Klopp on Sunday and hello Arne Slot on Monday, with the players now embarking on their post-season break. But for the club’s recruitment staff, the real work continues, with plans for both arrivals and departures along with new contracts for key players. That will bring a number of temporary moves for the club’s youngsters and fringe players, which could include midfielder James McConnell. According to the Hull Daily Mail, corroborating earlier reports, Hull are interested in signing McConnell on loan for the 2024/25 campaign. This comes after a productive relationship with the Championship side was revived with loan spells for Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho this season. Morton joined the Tigers in September and went on to play 41 times, including 35 starts in the league, while Carvalho swapped RB Leipzig for Hull in January and scored nine goals in 20 appearances. Though manager Liam Rosenior – who was central to signing Carvalho – was sacked after failing to finish in the playoffs, Hull will hope for another boost from Liverpool. McConnell was a regular in Klopp’s squad throughout the season, making the matchday squad 31 times and featuring on nine occasions, including two starts. He was among the youngsters sent on in the closing stages of normal time in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, with Liverpool eventually winning deep into extra time at Wembley. Opportunity in pre-season With the prospect of both Morton and Carvalho returning to Slot’s squad this summer and competition from the likes of Bobby Clark and Stefan Bajcetic, a loan move could benefit McConnell. Any decision over his future could be forced to wait, however, with there still uncertainty over plans heading into the new campaign. Slot may wish to call a bigger-than-usual squad in for the start of pre-season, having yet to work with any of the players now at his disposal. There could be an opportunity, then, for a player like McConnell to step up and earn a bigger role in Liverpool’s first team – as it will be seen as a fresh start for all involved. Liverpool’s midfield is already stacked, however, with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo established as senior options.

Sundowns legend Kekanas advice to Kaizer Chiefs legend Khune
Sundowns legend Kekanas advice to Kaizer Chiefs legend Khune
Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana has weighed in on the future of Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune and shared his advice. Khune was honoured by Chiefs this past weekend for his 25 years of service – but the veteran goalkeeper made it clear that it wasn’t a farewell. He still believes he has a few more years in him as a player, and that has caused confusion among the Chiefs fans as to whether or not he will stay. When Chiefs offered Khune the current one-year deal, they announced that this was his final contract with them. But Khune is not ready to quit the game he’s been involved in for 20 years as a professional, but Kekana was honest in his opinion of the situation. And that’s because Kekana found himself in a similar situation three years ago when he had served Sundowns with distinction for 10 years but suddenly disappeared. Kekana eventually retired from the game and ventured into Television where he’s a football analyst for SABC Sport after being in denial with reality for some time. Now, he has reminded Khune that he cannot play forever while also advising him to leave the game he loves dearly before he hates it. SUNDOWNS LEGEND KEKANA’S TALKS KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND KHUNE FUTURE “I wish he could understand and face the reality that he will never play forever,” Kekana said on SABC’s SoccerZone. “At this stage that he finds himself in, one would say leave the game before you start hating the game. “The reality says the system doesn’t want you anymore. So, when the system doesn’t want you anymore, make sure that you move. You don’t want to watch football one day and hate it.” KHUNE HAS NO POINT TO PROVE TO ANYONE – KEKANA Furthermore, Kekana feels Khune has no point to prove to anyone by continuing to play at the highest level having achieved so much in his career. He made mentioned of some of Khune’s achievements, including playing and captaining Bafana Bafana as well as wining the league with Chiefs. And here, Kekana wanted to challenge Khune to perhaps revisit his decision to want to continue playing even though it’s clear he’s no longer wanted at Chiefs as a player. Khune previously said he wants to play until he’s at least 40 years old, and with three years or so before that age, he may need to leave Chiefs if he wants to play further. “He played for Bafana; he captained the Kaizer Chiefs team, which won the league. I mean, he has done so much. What point does he want to prove, and to whom?” asked Kekana in conclusion. “The reality is, the system doesn’t want you anymore. He needs to retire before he starts hating the game” -Hlompho Kekana on Khune, Soccerzone @superjourno pic.twitter.com/DTa8YO6MsW — Andile Ncube (@AndileNcube) May 20, 2024

Kaizer Chiefs: THREE Bafana Bafana targets identified!
Kaizer Chiefs: THREE Bafana Bafana targets identified!
Kaizer Chiefs are serious about bringing in top talent with a total of THREE Bafana Bafana attackers currently on their transfer shopping list. Amakhosi intend to bring in a wide array of big names to Naturena next season. Now, they have added three national players to their list of transfer targets. CHIEFS TARGET BAFANA BAFANA TRIO Percy Tau is the biggest name on this list and he is keen to join Chiefs if they sign Mosimane. However, he is joined by two other SA attackers. As reported on Briefly, Luther Singh is one of the players they are interested in signing. Furthermore, they are planning to hijack Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns for this Bafana Bafana attacker. So, all three men are attackers. Is this a clear indication of Amakhosi’s intent next season? Well, yes and no. It is clear that they need a clinical finisher in front of goal. Especially, given their poor finishing and lack of composure in front of goal in recent seasons. However, they intend to sign players from several positions with a potential squad overhaul on the cards. Chiefs are keen to sign a former Pirates player, who recently left the club. Moreover, they have re-visited interest in Salim Magoola, according to Phakaaati. Given the fact that he will be available and open to a possible move at the end of the season. Unfortunately as the transfer targets grow, so do the likely exits. These SIX players are likely heading out of the club. Meanwhile, Itumuleng Khune is likely going to join their PSL rivals.

Manchester United looking to pip Arsenal to marauding full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have been forced to play the majority of the current season without a specialist left-back due to multiple injuries suffered by their full-backs. Tyrell Malacia has missed the entire season while Luke Shaw has been sidelined for a mammoth 36 games. Things got so bad at the start of the campaign that Sergio Reguilon arrived on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. He did not last long due to a combination of form and injuries and his short-term deal was terminated in January just when the England international was regaining fitness. That did not last long however. Erik ten Hag was forced to play defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and centre-back Victor Lindelof in that position and both struggled, which was expected. LB crisis at United For the concluding stage of the campaign, the Dutchman has been forced to alternate between Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the left-back spot and that is expected to continue for the FA Cup final. New co-owners INEOS have decided that this problem position needs a solution in the upcoming window and links have appeared with plenty of stars both in England and abroad. One Premier League star that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is interested in is Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who is a long-term target for Arsenal. Teamtalk have relayed that both Manchester City and Chelsea have had a look at the Algerian with the Gunners eying him as a potential replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko. His experience in the English top-flight, his potential to grow and the resale value he has due to his age are all attractive attributes for the management. INEOS looking at Ait-Nouri Ten Hag loves his full-backs to maraud forward, something Wan-Bissaka has struggled to do. Ait-Nouri, however, is not afraid of the ball and has scored thrice this season while registering two assists. He is versatile and can play further forward if required, another trait that is highly appreciated by United’s Dutch manager. The 22-year-old is in the top one percent for successful take-ons completed among full-backs (as per fbref), highlighting his attacking nature. Wolves had paid £10 million for the Algeria international after a successful loan from French club Angers and will be demanding £40 million for their full-back. Whether United can afford to splurge such an amount on a left-back when they also need a centre-back, midfielder and forward remains to be seen. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Orlando Pirates coach makes big admission
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is facing a massive weekend. The Sea Robbers’ season will be made or broken in Soweto on Saturday. ORLANDO PIRATES TO SUCCEED OR FAIL THIS SATURDAY The Buccaneers have won the MTN8 are trophy this season and are in third place on the DStv Premiership log. Yet, according to coach Riveiro, Orlando Pirates’ season will be a failure if they do not finish second and qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League. Speaking to the media this week, the Spaniard expects his team to defeat SuperSport United on Saturday, while also hoping Stellenbosch FC either draw or lose to Richards Bay in Durban on the same day. “You can’t be fatigued if you are playing this type of games, playing for the big objective which is to put Orlando Pirates in the Champions League next season,” Riveiro said via the Sowetan. “I think there’s no excuses…you need to go an extra mile, players and coaching staff, to make sure that the club finish at least second because we can’t finish first, obviously. Anything less than that, is not going to be a good season for us. “We need to win the game against SuperSport on Saturday and wait that Stellenbosch don’t have a good day and if they have a good day, then they’ll be in the Champions League next season and that’d be well deserved for them,” the Orlando Pirates mentor added. On the shock loss to TS Galaxy last Saturday, Riveiro felt that his players failed to recover from a slow start. “Many things went wrong today…we were very slow at the beginning of the game. We took too much time to progress and we played to our opponent’s strengths, giving them the possibilities to run in transition. I think in the second half we were better than we were in the first half, controlling the game and creating chances,” the Orlando Pirates tactician concluded. HOW THE BUCCANEERS LINED-UP Goalkeeper – Sipho Chaine Right-Back – Thabiso Monyane Central Defender – Nkosinathi Sibisi Central Defender – Olisa Ndah Left-Back – Innocent Maela Central Midfielder – Makhehlene Makhaula Central Midfielder – Thalente Mbatha Central Attacking Midfielder – Patrick Maswanganyi Left Forward – Relebohile Mofokeng Right Forward – Kabelo Dlamini Center Forward – Tshegofatso Mabasa. Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones in England senior squad Jordan Henderson dropped Liverpool FC
Jarell Quansah has made a sensational leap into the England provisional squad ahead of the Euros, with Curtis Jones also in while Jordan Henderson is dropped. Gareth Southgate will name his 30-man provisional squad for pre-Euros training and friendlies at 2pm on Tuesday, but early reports have revealed big surprises. That includes first-time call-ups for both Quansah and Jones, who both impressed throughout Jurgen Klopp‘s final season at Liverpool. Jones’ inclusion was first reported by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, while the Times‘ Paul Joyce reports on Quansah’s step up from the U21s. It comes with Henderson left out of the squad entirely, having seen his reputation drop miserably following a terrible decision to join Saudi side Al-Ettifaq last summer. Other names called up include Crystal Palace quartet Adam Wharton, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Dean Henderson as well as Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Along with Henderson, Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has not been selected, with this 30-man group then set to be cut to 26 for the tournament proper. England face Bosnia & Herzegovina (June 3) and Iceland (June 7) in warmup friendlies next month, before taking on Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in Group C of the Euros in Germany. Quansah has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past 12 months, making his Liverpool debut in August and going on to play 33 times this season. He ended the campaign as first-choice centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk, scoring in the final two games to bring his season’s tally to three goals and three assists. The 21-year-old only made his bow for England U21s in October, stepping up from the U20s and featuring four times, having won the U19 Euros with England in 2022. Jones, meanwhile, is no longer eligible for the U21s and therefore found himself in limbo before this call-up, but sufficiently impressed Gareth Southgate in a campaign that saw him play 36 times for Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold is certain to be included in the England squad but it remains to be seen if Joe Gomez, who was selected for the March break, keeps his spot. There is no word on if Harvey Elliott, who ended the season as one of Liverpool’s best players, will make the cut.

How Sangweni ended up at Pirates after signing with Chiefs
“I was confused because I was done with Chiefs,” says Sangweni. Former Orlando Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni says he still does not know how ended up playing for the Buccaneers after he initially signed with Kaizer Chiefs. WATCH: Khanye slams Chiefs coach for disrespecting Khune Sangweni joined  the Chiefs academy in 1999, but ran away just before he going to be promoted to the senior team. Speaking to FARPost during the unveiling of a stadium named after him in Dondotha this past weekend, Sangweni said the reason why he fled was because the R200 allowance money he was getting from Chiefs was not sufficient enough for him and his family. “In 1999, I was in the Kaizer Chiefs academy but I ran away, Bobby [Motaung] knows the story. The likes of Jabu Pule and [Nhlanhla] Kubheka, we were in that team that was going to be promoted. “But I just felt that this thing of being given R200 to buy bathing soap while at home there is a team that can give me R1500 salary…I would be able to share a little with my mother from that,” said Sangweni. After running away from Chiefs at night Sangweni ended up playing for Bongani FC, who were campaigning in the Vodacom League in KZN. From Bongani FC he joined Nathi Lions and then Golden Arrows where he won the 2009 MTN8 under the tutelage of Manqoba Mngqithi. “I told them [Bongani FC owners] to fetch me at night, they came and stole me. At Chiefs, they woke up and I was no longer there. They eventually saw me emerge at Golden Arrows and it was late.” Sangweni was eventually signed by Chiefs again in 2010, but in a turn of events, he ended up joining Pirates a year later. “My father wanted me to play for Chiefs, but my mother was close to Mato [Madlala]. “Before mom passed away, she said everything you will do, here is your mom [pointing at Mato Madlala] who will tell you what to do in football. I told Mato I wanted to go to Chiefs and she said, ‘Okay you will go’. “I signed with Chiefs in 2010 and told Mato: ‘I’ve signed with Chiefs and have to start on Tuesday’. “Sis Mato then told me they want you at Pirates. I was confused because I was done with Chiefs. She said forget about that, I’m your parent and everything will go well. ALSO READ: Pirates coach Riveiro refuses to blame fatigue for Galaxy loss “After that, chairman [Irvin Khoza] phoned me and said, ‘Look, we have spoken with your mom. You belong at Pirates now’ and I eventually agreed. They booked me a flight for a meeting to discuss contracts in Johannesburg. “And that was the end of the story, I ended up with Indoda Emnyama, Once and Always,” explained Sangweni. “Perhaps they made agreements with Chiefs, but I was no longer there,” concluded the former Bafana Bafana defender. Meanwhile, Sangweni thanked the provincial government for honouring him with the stadium. He said the facility would be used to nurture young people’s talents and help them achieve their dreams of becoming stars in future.

As a build up to the transfer window, let’s enjoy our Kaizer Chiefs signing of the day feature. Today we remember one of the club’s best ever number 10s: Stanton Fredericks. LEGENDARY KAIZER CHIEFS STAR: STANTON FREDERICKS Born in Johannesburg, Gauteng in 1978, Fredericks kick started his career at the now defuct Wits Univeristy in 1998. The player “Stiga,” did not stay long in the local scene before moving to Grasshoppers in Switzerland. The central attacking midfielder/number 10 was back in Mzansi to join Amakhosi in 2001. The success included the 2001 African Cup Winners’ Cup, BP Top 8 and Coca Cola Cup (both in the 2001-2002 season) and the 2003-2004 Coca Cola Cup. Fredericks soon moved back to Europe to join FC Moscow in Russia. He later moved to rivals Orlando Pirates, Pierikos (Greece) and finally Bidvest Wits before retiring in 2013. His international career included two goals in 14 Bafana Bafana appearances. A WORD TO RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG Meanwhile, the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker has sent advice to Orlando Pirates’ rising superstar Relebohile Mofokeng. “I’m not advising, but when I see him, I will tell him. He needs to get stronger,” Fredricks said to FARPost. “He will get in within SA, he will kill people [dribble], but if he’s going to make the next gem to Europe he needs to get stronger. “I was an average-sized player in SA, but when I went to Europe, I was small. So what do you do? You get stronger, you hit the gym, eat right and build on that strength,” the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker added. “When you go to the national team, and you come up against a big West African counterpart, you should stand on your own. So that’s what I would love for him to do now. “Young Relebohile Mofokeng, we speaking of myself, we speaking of Jabu Mahlangu and Teko Modise and Shabba. “When you get the ball, the crowd has an expectation, the crowd goes wild. We haven’t had that in SA football, now when the boy gets the ball there’s an expectation,” the Kaizer Chiefs legend concluded.

However, insider sources reveal that the club is contemplating the future of head coach Rulani Mokwena. Raising eyebrows across the Premier Soccer League(PSL) community. If Sundowns decide to part ways with Mokwena, they could already have a list of potential replacements. A close source disclosed, “they are preparing for it. A shortlist of coaches is being drawn up in case a change is necessary,” the source told The South African.  Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach drama: Rulani Mokwena’s achievements Under Mokwena’s leadership, Sundowns have won the African Football League and the DStv Premiership, potentially undefeated. While also securing a spot in the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates. Additionally, the team has qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup next June. With two games left, Sundowns have set records for the longest unbeaten start, fewest goals conceded, most wins, and most points in a DStv Premiership season. Strengthening the squad: Sundowns target Olivier Toure In other news, the reigning DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns are looking to fortify their squad for the upcoming season. Especially focusing on their defence department. They have their eyes on Stellenbosch FC’s Ivorian defender, Olivier Toure, competing with Kaizer Chiefs for his signature. A source close to Sundowns revealed their plans: “Yes, they are interested in Toure. Their main aim is to have a strong defence for next season, with about seven competitions ahead. They need a well-balanced squad in all departments.” Toure’s rising star: A coveted talent Toure, who joined Stellenbosch from Marumo Gallants on a three-year contract, has become a key player for the club. His impressive performances, including contributing to their Carling Knockout Cup victory, have made him a hot commodity in the transfer market. The competition between Chiefs and Sundowns for Toure promises to be intense. Securing Toure could significantly enhance the defensive strength of the winning team, making this a transfer saga to watch closely in the coming weeks.

Orlando Pirates FINALLY agree three-year deal for SSU star!
Orlando Pirates pulled off the surprise signing of SuperSport United midfielder Thalente Mbatha in January. Pirates signed two players in the January transfer window, Thabiso Lebitso and Mbatha, who is on loan. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Mbatha had been around the reserve football circles for quite some time, having featured for Highlands Park. After the club sold its status, the player sought a move to stay in the top-flight ranks and joined SuperSport. There, he eventually made it to the first-team squad under coach Gavin Hunt. Even so, he failed to be a regular in the side, even struggling to make the match day squad. Therefore, it came as a shock to many when Pirates announced the signing of the 22-year-old. SuperSport agree terms with Pirates for Mbatha This publication reported in March that SuperSport and Pirates had agreed to a loan deal with an option to buy. Now with just a couple of games into his Buccaneers career, it is thought a decision has already been made. According to Mbatha’s agent Mike Makaab the player is most likely to stay at his current club.  Now according to Soccer-Laduma Pirates and SuperSport have finally agreed on a deal for Mbatha’s long-term future.  Deal announced after Nedbank Cup final? “The Siya crew understands Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United will finalise a permanent move for midfielder Thalente Mbatha after the Nedbank Cup final, with a three-year deal expected to be completed. Mbatha signed a loan deal in the January transfer window, with Pirates having an option to make the deal permanent. As things stand, Pirates are preparing to make the deal permanent and the Siya crew has been informed that all the figures have been pre-agreed, so the two clubs will not be opening fresh negotiations.” Wrote the publication.  It has been an open secret that Mbatha will stay at Pirates. With noise coming from both Makaab and SuperSport making it seem like a case of when and not if.

Fabrizio Romano claims Erik ten Hags future rests on FA Cup final Man United News And Transfer News
1 The pressure is piling on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as his team gears up to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 25. Following what has been a tumultuous season, criticism of Ten Hag’s managerial performance has reached fever-pitch, with fans and pundits expressing dissatisfaction with the Dutchman. Club legend Rio Ferdinand made his feelings on Ten Hag’s tenure known, stating: “Put injuries aside, the performances of the team have been so bad. Most teams have had injuries, maybe not to the same extent as Man United.” He went on to criticise the team’s playing style or lack thereof, continuing: “I keep saying this, I sound like a broken record: performance level can drop but your style of football should be there to identify. It’s not. I don’t know what we are. I don’t know who we are. Who are we as a team? What are we?” In Ferdinand’s eyes, Ten Hag’s fate is already sealed. He believes that new co-owners INEOS have seen what they need to and will dismiss the Dutch manager from his position when the time comes. Ferdinand is not alone in his assessment, with former Aston Villa and Everton chief Keith Wyness admitting that he feels that Ten Hag is not the right fit for United. After a period of uncertainty, Fabrizio Romano has finally delivered a concrete answer regarding how he expects Ten Hag’s future to pan out. While Romano assured that previous reports in February and March were true about Ten Hag being involved in discussions with INEOS over the club’s future, the tone at Old Trafford has since changed. Regarding Ten Hag’s chances of retaining his job following a torrid season, Romano had this to say: “At the moment it’s completely open – it’s a 50-50 situation for Ten Hag.” He also provided a deadline for the decision on Ten Hag’s future, confirming: “After the Wembley final there will be a decision on the coach, so Ten Hag knows how important it will be.” Romano claimed that while victory against favourites City side is not expected, a “proper mentality” on the pitch will go a long way in influencing the club’s faith in Ten Hag’s abilities. Victory would mean everything for Ten Hag – not only in terms of keeping his job but also seeking revenge following United’s 1-2 loss last time out. Arne Slot has already made a big change to pre-season it may not go down well! Liverpool FC
Arne Slot has already made a big change to pre-season it may not go down well! Liverpool FC
Though the Liverpool squad may have been hoping for a longer break after another draining season, Arne Slot has moved their pre-season plans forward. “One thing I do know is we need a good break after our tournament because otherwise we will be in trouble as well going into the season,” Virgil van Dijk told This Is Anfield on Sunday. “Hopefully the new manager will look into that as well.” Liverpool final campaign under Jurgen Klopp was both mentally and physically draining, playing 58 fixtures – the third-most in a single season of his reign – and dropping off in an emotional climax. For most players that will be followed by international commitments, including the Euros and Copa America, before then rejoining for pre-season. So much for a break, then, with the Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe reporting that Slot has already moved the start of pre-season forward a week. “Slot has brought his first pre-season training sessions forward by a week – the squad will reconvene in the first week of July – so he can begin acclimatising to his new environment,” Bascombe writes. “Those representing their country at Euro 2024 and Copa America will return later, depending on how far they progress in the tournament.” Liverpool’s first pre-season friendlies are currently scheduled for the end of July and into August, with Real Betis (July 27), Arsenal (July 31) and Man United (August 4) opponents on a tour of the United States. But it could be that low-profile domestic fixtures are pencilled in before then at Slot’s request, with it clear that the Dutchman wants to put his stamp down early. Still, a balance will need to be struck between allowing players the time off they feel they need and giving enough opportunity to adjust to the new head coach’s ideals. Pre-season will kick off at the AXA Training Centre, with Slot supported by members of his old backroom staff from Feyenoord. New backroom yet to be announced Though their appointments are yet to be confirmed, the 45-year-old is expected to bring assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff (pictured), head of performance Ruben Peeters and technical advisor Etienne Reijnen with him to Merseyside. There had been doubts over whether Hulshoff could be involved from the start of pre-season, as he held the same role in the Netherlands national team staff. But the 49-year-old has now vacated his post in Ronald Koeman’s backroom, with his focus entirely on Liverpool.
