Manchester United players pen open letter to fans after glorious FA Cup win over Man City Man United News And Transfer News
1 The Manchester United players led by manager Erik ten Hag have written an open letter to the club’s fans, thanking them for supporting the team even under extreme circumstances. This comes after United beat Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday in the FA Cup final. First-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo ultimately proved to be enough for United as they pulled off an unlikely victory and clinched silverware. The Red Devils also qualified for Europa League football in the process. It was a much-needed positive end to what has been an extremely disappointing and dreary season. Lisandro Martinez spoke to the media after the game vs. City and repeatedly labelled the United fans as “unbelievable” before claiming that the players were motivated to secure the win for them as a show of gratitude. The players wrote in a letter published on the club’s official website, “We all know that this club is special. Yesterday’s game was yet another reminder of that. As we fought to win the FA Cup, the incredible atmosphere you generated inside Wembley helped push us over the line.” “Celebrating all together was beautiful. Fans, staff, players — all united as one. Those memories will live with us forever. It was a further reminder that with your support behind us, and the United badge on our chests, we can achieve great things.  You can be sure that we feel immense pride in representing our football club. This shared passion will drive us forward together, back to where this club belongs.” “We know how much this club means to so many people — in Manchester and around the world. The backing you have given to us, even during times when we fell short of the standards that we set for ourselves, has been unbelievable.” “We understand the sacrifices that you have to make to show this level of support. It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. We know this season overall has not been good enough and we make no excuses. But we ended it in the best way possible, celebrating a trophy all together.” “We want more days like yesterday. We are excited for the future here. There is so much that we have to achieve together. We will fight to bring Manchester United the success that this special club deserves. Thank you for your unrivalled support.” The letter was signed by members of the first team and Ten Hag. Mason Greenwood confirms Getafe exit in farewell social media post Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood has confirmed his departure from Getafe following their final La Liga game of the 2023/24 season on Sunday afternoon. Getafe suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Mallorca. Jose Bordalas’ men took the lead early into the second half and looked set to clinch all three points but Mallorca grabbed two goals in the dying embers of the game to turn the match on its head. Despite the defeat, Greenwood performed well and showed again why he’s on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. The Carrington academy graduate has now taken to Instagram and confirmed that it was his last game for the Spanish outfit. He posted a picture of himself in Getafe colours alongside the message, “Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season.” “Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own.” “I enjoyed every second, alongside my teammates and club.” He added, “A bitter sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.” The 22-year-old made 33 La Liga appearances for Getafe. In that period, he managed eight goals and six assists. Across all competitions, he notched 10 goals in 36 matches. It has been a very successful loan spell for the forward considering the amount of football he had missed due to his legal troubles. All eyes are now on United and the top brass, to see what decision they make regarding Greenwood’s future. Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously opened the door to the Englishman possibly returning to Old Trafford and playing for United once again. As mentioned, Greenwood is also attracting plenty of interest, with the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid understood to be keen on securing his services and offering him his next permanent home. Where is Kaizer Chiefs Sergio Ramos these days?
Where is Kaizer Chiefs Sergio Ramos these days?
Kaizer Chiefs had Tefu Mashamaite to thank for several critical goals, important clearances and plenty in between during his stint at the club. MASHAMAITE WAS A GOAL MACHINE FOR KAIZER CHIEFS Look at many a striker’s goal ratio in the DStv Premiership and the numbers aren’t exactly mind-boggling. Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana would bite your hand off for these stats. Mashamaite bagged 11 goals & five assists in 121 appearances for the Glamour Boys across all competitions. That’s exactly a goal every 11 games. How does that stack up to one of the best defenders in the history of the sport? Real Madrid and Spain icon Sergio Ramos scored a staggering 101 goals in 671 appearances for Los Blancos. He was not only the best defender of his generation but also the best goal-scoring defender the beautiful game has ever seen. To score a goal every 11 appearances in the notoriously low-scoring PSL is some achievement. MASHAMAITE’S CV WASN’T TOO BAD EITHER In his heyday, the 39-year-old was a colossus for Chiefs in the centre of defence. He captained Amakhosi between 2011 and 2015 before trying his hand in Sweden with Hacken. He’s a two-time DStv Premiership winner with Chiefs in 2013 and 2015 alongside Bafana legend Tsepo Masilela, making 121 appearances in the black & gold strip. Tefu Mashamaite was the last player to lift a trophy for Kaizer Chief COMMITTED TO BEING A SCHOLAR, AND MAYBE A SPORTS LAWYER? Mashamaite retired from football in 2018 and launched The Collective Sports Agency (TCSA) three years later. His work in that area isn’t limited to football. In 2005 he graduated with a BA in International Relations and Politics at Wits and got a national certificate in agriculture in 2021. In 2023 he told Radio 2000 that he wants to continue studying. “I’m about to complete my Sports Management studies, through a program run by FIFA. “Upon graduating, I’m hoping to complete my Sports Law diploma, it’s also an international course run by FIFA,” RAMOVIC EXPLAINS THE AMAKHOSI ALLURE In a statement indicating loyalty to his current employers, Ramovic told MSW via FarPost, that his focus remains with TS Galaxy. “I am the coach for this beautiful club, TS Galaxy. I have a contract, and I am very happy to be here,” Ramovic declared, emphasising his commitment to the team where he has found success and joy. He acknowledged the allure of Amakhosi, calling them “probably the most beautiful club in South Africa [SA],” but reiterated that his current happiness with TS Galaxy remains unchanged. Is Dolly leaving or staying at Kaizer Chiefs? What we know so far
Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Keagan Dolly is skating on thin ice in terms of his future at Naturena. Injury issues continue to plague Dolly Former Sundowns and Montpellier star Keagan Dolly suffered a fractured toe which delayed contract talks for the 31-year-old who wasn’t willing to accept terms on reduced wages. However, according to the latest reports, the club management has changed their minds.  “His chances of staying at the club (Chiefs) and extending his contract are almost 90% as things stand now. What the club has said is that they have looked at his past two seasons and how he performed, compared to the seven games he has played this season due to injury. That’s what they are basing their decision on. “They say if he is fit, he is an asset to the team and his contract will be based on the past two seasons which gives him the chance to renew his deal. So for now, we can say that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Dolly. The club wants to have at least two or three senior players in the team, but those talks are still ongoing.” Said the source to Soccer-Laduma. Keagan Dolly of Kaizer Chiefs celebrates goal with teammates Ashley Du Preez during DStv Premiership 2022/23 football match between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC at Soccer City on 01 April 2023 ©Gavin Barker/BackpagePix U-Turn at Kaizer Chiefs? Not so long ago, Dolly turned down a new deal as it wasn’t in line with his current earnings. Dolly is understood to be the best-paid player in the DStv Premiership, earning R1.4m a month. Anything is possible but it’d still be a huge surprise if Dolly was at the club next term. He has played EIGHT times across all competitions this season, including seven in the league with a solitary assist. DOES PERCY TAU HAVE ANYTHING LEFT TO OFFER? Tau is now with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, a club with which he has won eight trophies, including the most coveted CAF Champions League. The Lion of Judah is now 30, which begs the question, can Kaizer Chiefs still squeeze some value out of the left-footer? We have our doubts. As things stand, Percy Tau will reportedly pocket R23.2m annually in the first year of his new deal with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Monthly, that’s roughly R1.93m a month. The annual figure could rise to R31m in the third year. That’s R2 million a month, at the lower end. Is that type of outlay worth it? Tau was only born in the year after Keagan Dolly, the club’s current top earner. Let us know by clicking on the comment tab below this article or by emailing info@thesouthafrican.com. Sundowns coach questions PSL awards
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is not so happy with the DStv Premiership award nominations. Find out why. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COACH RULANI MOKWENA UNHAPPY WITH AWARD NOMINATIONS According to Mokwena, Sundowns’ Lucas Ribeiro, as well as Marcelo Allende, should have been recognised for a few award nominations. “I’m disappointed, I think he [Lucas Ribeiro] has been phenomenal, he’s just been unlucky with injuries. He hasn’t played so many games in his career and that caught up a bit,” said Mokwena as per FARPost. “He’s the best footballer, the best human being and one of the best players I’ve ever coached from a gift point of view and I think he can improve so much more. “That’s probably the even scarier part because, in his first season, he has performed the way he has performed. But I could say the same about Marcelo Allende, it’s disappointing not to see him amongst the nominees,” the Sundowns mentor added. “I think Sailor [Khuliso Mudau] has had a good season also, and he’s not part the Defender of the Season at the very least. “But it’s okay, you can’t have your cake and eat it, can you? We’ve got to celebrate the nomination of Ronwen [Williams], and Tebza. Mine is that, I’m just nominated because I coach very good players and I’m humbled to be in that space,” the Sundowns tactician concluded. Manchester United planning to raid Blackburn Rovers for 16-year-old wonderkid Igor Tyjon Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester United planning to raid Blackburn Rovers for 16-year-old wonderkid Igor Tyjon Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United are reportedly planning a bid for Blackburn Rovers prospect Igor Tyjon. United seem to be keen on adopting a completely different approach from their previous one of signing already-established players at the peak of their powers. The club appears to be now leaning more towards a model of securing the services of young players with the ability and potential to become world-class if well nurtured. It’s believed that this is a policy Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are keen to implement at Old Trafford – the evidence of which can already be seen in United’s links to youngsters like Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) and Desire Doue (Stade Rennais). Writing on his Patreon, The Sun reporter Alan Nixon reports that the Red Devils retain an interest in 16-year-old Blackburn Rovers wonderkid Igor Tyjon. Rovers boast a very impressive academy, that has produced several success stories, the most recent one of which was Adam Wharton. Wharton joined Premier League side Palace earlier this year in an £18m deal and has since taken to the top flight like a duck to water. He has impressed with his incredible technical displays, which earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad ahead of England’s participation in Euro 2024. Tyjon seems like the next big talent set to come out of Ewood Park. United are not the only party chasing him. Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on Tyjon and could swoop in for him. Amidst all this, it’s believed that the England youth international remains undecided about his future as he could still elect to stay with Rovers and make an effort to break into the first team. There is certainly a path for him to achieve this as seen in the cases of Wharton, Ashley Phillips and Callum Wright – all players that have come through the ranks at the Championship club. Tyjon primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but can also be deployed in the striker and winger roles. He’s been a regular presence for his side at the U18 level and while he’s yet to make an appearance for the senior team, he has already made the bench on two occasions. Rovers acquired him from Rochdale last year when they were relegated to the National League. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Do Orlando Pirates have the best bench in South Africa?
Do Orlando Pirates have the best bench in South Africa?
Orlando Pirates have displayed some ridiculous depth in recent matches. Is theirs the best squad in South Africa? Perhaps Sundowns have entered the chat. Double double loading? Pirates have already defended their MTN8 crown this season, beating Sundowns in the final. They can do the almost unthinkable by also defending their Nedbank Cup title, but they’ll need to beat Sundowns again to do that. The showpiece match is on 1 June at 15:00 from Mbombela Stadium. Sundowns will be slightly aggrieved after surrendering their unbeaten status in the league on the final day, losing to Cape Town City. Depth galore for Orlando Pirates Jose Riveiro has a virtually clear bill of health with competition in all departments of the pitch. Against Cape Town City, the Sea Robbers were without Patrick Maswanganyi so they recalled Lesedi Kapinga in the number 10 role. Tshegofatso Mabasa continued his rich vein of goal-scoring form with another brace, taking him to 13 league strikes this term. Riveiro has the luxury of bringing Nkosinathi Sibisi, Katlego Otladisa, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Evidence Makgopa and Karim Kimvudi off the bench in the Mother City. If that’s not an illustration of the riches at his disposal, nothing is. Innocent Maela and Siphelo Baloni were unused subs, and Monnapule Saleng wasn’t even in the matchday squad! Fast forward to their preparations for the Nedbank Cup, and they’re still in fine shape. Tapelo Xoki will miss the Nedbank Cup final, but Olisa Ndah and Thabiso Sesane should continue in the heart of defence. Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro. Image: DFA Pirates spearheaded by Tshegofatso Mabasa Stuff from Golden Boot. Even his 15 goals, however, weren’t enough to secure a spot for Bafana Bafana. Isn’t that crazy? Here’s how the final Golden Boot standings looked: Tshegofatso Mabasa (Orlando Pirates) – 16 goals Iqraam Rayners (Stellenbosch FC) – 15 goals Lucas Ribeiro Costa (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 12 goals Bradley Grobler (SuperSport United) – 11 goals Khanyisa Mayo (Cape Town City) – 10 goals Tshegofatso Mabasa against Crystal Lake at the Mbombela Stadium in the Nedbank Cup. Gavin Hunt leaving or staying at SuperSport?
Gavin Hunt leaving or staying at SuperSport?
SuperSport United and Gavin Hunt are yet to decide the future. Here are the current thoughts of the legendary tactician. SUPERSPORT UNITED YET TO DECIDE GAVIN HUNT’S FUTURE It was not a season to remember. Hunt, a former three-time DStv Premiership champion with the same club, finished this season in seventh place. With his contract ending on 30 June, what is the delay and is he staying or going? “Can I go to the office tomorrow or what?,” Hunt joked via iDiski Times. “Uhm, I don’t know, I don’t wanna go there [to your question], no let’s leave it I don’t wanna answer that question,” the SuperSport coach said. “It’s a great club, listen. It’s one of the clubs that have good culture, good youth development, there’s always a plan but we need… if we wanna compete with people in this league, you’re going to need a little bit of help you know, it’s very, very difficult,” Hunt added. “But as I said, I think we’ve done very well, beating a lot of teams with bigger budgets than us this season, that’s the most important thing and if you can do that every year… but we can’t keep doing this, we need to level it out a bit. There’s a good crop of kids but we need help, we need help [financial],” the SuperSport legend concluded. REPORTS: ORLANDO PIRATES SIGN KEGAN JOHANNES According to the seasoned and well-trusted journalist, Robin Duke-Madlala of Sportswire, Orlando Pirates have agreed and signed a pre-contract deal with SuperSport’s 23-year-old right-back Johannes. The Bishop-Lavis-born star can also play as a central defender or defensive midfielder. Despite signing a new deal with Matsatsantsa a Pitori in early 2024 that will end June 202, Johannes, who is a graduate of the Cape Town Spurs Ikamva academy, has moved to Soweto on undisclosed terms. “SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes is on his way to join Orlando Pirates next season,” the report said. “According to Sportswire sources, Pirates have been looking for a consistent right back for the past two seasons, and Johannes fits the bill. Their current options at the position are limited due to injuries,” the report added. Additionally, Johannes has mysteriously disappeared from the SuperSport team since March. Career numbers so far: Cape Town Spurs – Seven matches SuperSport United – 64 matches (with four goals and one assist). Note: (Data from the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Cape Town Spurs, where Johannes played an estimated 50 games, are unavailable). Johannes, who also has three Bafana Bafana caps, has been dropped from the SuperSport team since 9 March against AmaZulu. Numbers by position: Right-Back: 47 matches, two goals and one assist. Central Defence: 19 games and two goals. Orlando Pirates’ Right-Back Options: Thabiso Lebitso, 28. Thabiso Monyane, 24 Bandile Shandu, 29.

Manchester United approach representatives of Thomas Frank and Mauricio Pochettino Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag masterminded a spectacular 2-1 win over Manchester City to seal FA Cup glory yesterday – his second trophy in England in as many seasons. From the get-go, the Dutch tactician had Pep Guardiola’s number, as City struggled to find any freedom in the middle of the park, leading to just one shot on target in the first half. Guardiola’s second-half changes also did little to trouble Man United’s defence, who only conceded one goal before the full-time whistle. Such a convincing performance at Wembley has led to many fans and pundits alike backing Ten Hag to continue at Old Trafford beyond this summer. However, it seems INEOS continue to explore their options. According to The Telegraph, Ten Hag is ‘at serious risk’ of being shown the exit door even after leading the side to their thirteenth FA Cup trophy. The final decision on his fate is expected to be made this week after a ‘thorough season review’.  Regardless of the decision on Ten Hag’s future, the club’s hierarchy have started talking to his potential successors.  Before the FA Cup final clash on Saturday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United held talks with the representatives of Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna. Now, The Telegraph is claiming the decision-makers at the Theatre of Dreams have ‘held discussions’ with the representatives of Thomas Frank and Mauricio Pochettino.  Pochettino, in particular, has emerged as a serious candidate following his sudden departure from Chelsea. Frank, meanwhile, has attracted interest due to the way he has led Brentford on a tight budget in the last six years. The report further states that United have also previously ‘sounded out’ Thomas Tuchel’s camp. The former Chelsea boss is on the market after parting ways with Bayern Munich. As far as Ten Hag is concerned, he made his case in multiple post-match interviews on Saturday, highlighting how injuries played a big part in his side’s struggles this term. After the memorable win, the 54-year-old has gone on a well-deserved holiday.  Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Orlando Pirates coach makes Champions League promise
Orlando Pirates coach makes Champions League promise
It’s official, Orlando Pirates will play CAF Champions League football next season. Here is the first reaction from coach Jose Riveiro. ORLANDO PIRATES COACH JOSE RIVEIRO REACTS TO CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFICATION Despite Saturday’s 1-1 draw with SuperSport United, the Sea Robbers finished second and qualified for Africa on goal difference, thanks to Stellenbosch FC’s 2-1 loss to Richards Bay. The last time Orlando Pirates played in the CAFCL was when they exited in the preliminary round after losing to Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy. Congratulations one more time to everyone involved in this achievement and also I don’t say congratulations but very well done to Stellenbosch because I think they had a remarkable season,” Riveiro said via SABC Sport. “Today, it’s us who are in that spot but obviously everybody can see the margins were very, very small. It’s fantastic that Pirates is gonna be in the Champions League again next season and we’ll make sure that Pirates will represent South Africa in the continent and hopefully better than the last time. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! “I think that we shouldn’t undermine what it means to be in the Champions League but not celebrating to be second, we are celebrating to be in the Champions League. We’ve got a right to be there and it’s something very important for the club but being second, 23 points behind the first one is not a huge achievement,” the Orlando Pirates coach added. “So, that’s our objective from now how we can reduce that gap with whoever is there leading the log. It’s too much distance between the first and second position and even though I said many times we are fighting with a team that is not famous for dropping points frequently,” Riviero added. A MESSAGE TO STELLENBOSCH FC Orlando Pirates were made to focus and work hard to finish second, thanks to Stellenbosch FC’s competition. Coach Riveiro has concluded the season by sending praise to Stellenbosch FC. “I think they really intensified the competition this season, they were a very tough opponent. Today they are not in the second spot, but imagine they are extremely sour,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV, as quoted by the Citizen. “But for us, we probably deserved to be there so I think it’s a good day for us,” the Orlando Pirates coach concluded. How far can the Buccaneers go in next season’s CAFCL? Let us know in the comments section below.

Doctor Khumalo (Columbus Crew) Jomo Sono (NY Cosmos, Colorado Caribous, Atlanta Chiefs, Toronto Blizzard) Kaizer Motaung (Atlanta Chiefs) Shaun Bartlett (Colorado Rapids, MetroStars) Ace Ntsoelengoe (Miami Toros, Denver Dynamos, Minnesota Kicks, Tornoto Blizzard) Nkosinathi Nhleko (FC Dallas) Kamohelo Mokotjo (Cincinatti) George Lebese (Switchbacks FC) Davide Somma (San Jose) Danleigh Borman (RI Rams, NY Red Bulls, Toronto, New England) Lebo Moloto (Nashville SC, Tulsa) Bongokuhle Hlongwane (Minnesota) Katlego Ntsabeleng (FC Dallas) Njabulo Blom (St. Louis City SC) Olwethu Makhanya (Philadelphia Union) Cassius Mailula (Toronto FC) Current Buccaneers midfield maestro Miguel Timm had a short spell with Phoenix Rising before returning to the South African PSL with Chippa, Maritzburg Gallants and now Pirates. Manchester United frontrunners to sign Port Vale striker Baylee Dipepa Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s remarkable FA Cup final win over Manchester City was scripted by their young stars at Wembley. Two years after winning the FA Youth Cup, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo stepped up for Man United’s first team in some fashion to seal the side’s thirteenth FA Cup triumph. Apart from getting their names on the scoresheet, the teenage pair, unfazed by the big occasion, emerged as constant threats against Pep Guardiola’s men and underlined how placing trust in young players can pay great dividends.  INEOS appear to have taken note of the same, as they continue to look for young prospects to strengthen United’s teams across different levels. The latest name on their radar is Baylee Dipepa. The Port Vale striker, 17, has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking talents in Football League One.  The England U17 star made a staggering 26 first-team appearances for the Valiants this term, scoring three goals and assisting twice in the process. Naturally, this has led to interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including United. As per The Daily Mail, United, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and West Ham are all interested in Dipepa. European giants Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Leipzig have also monitored the young forward. However, it is being claimed that the Red Devils are leading the race for the Port Vale sensation’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window. It is thought Dipepa would be tempted to move to Old Trafford. While United have set their sights on one young forward, they are set to lose another top goal-scoring prospect this summer.  Highly-rated academy striker Charlie McNeill confirmed before United’s FA Cup outing that he is set to exit the club upon the expiration of his contract. As far as the senior side is concerned, Anthony Martial is also destined to leave. The Frenchman was not even part of Erik ten Hag’s travelling squad for the big game in London. 2023/24 Liverpool FC Player Ratings Every player ranked from worst to best Liverpool FC
2023/24 Liverpool FC Player Ratings Every player ranked from worst to best Liverpool FC
Several Liverpool youngsters excelled in 2023/24 but one man stood out as the Reds’ star man, according to This Is Anfield‘s contributors. Another season is over at Anfield, not to mention the Jurgen Klopp era, as Arne Slot prepares to replace the German on June 1. The 2023/24 campaign was positive overall and even looked to be legendary at one point, with the League Cup sealed back in February. As for the players, there was a mix of great, good, average and disappointing when it came to their performances, and This Is Anfield‘s regulars have given each a score for the season. Here are the results, with an average of every rating. (Note: Players must have made at least 10 appearances, which rules out James McConnell, Jayden Danns and Ben Doak, plus others.)   23. Kostas Tsimikas Starts (Sub): 17 (8) Average Rating: 6.00 It’s no great surprise to see Tsimikas bottom of the pile, following a forgettable campaign with limited action. Could Slot look for an upgrade this summer, especially with Andy Robertson now 30 years of age?   22. Ryan Gravenberch Starts (Sub): 21 (17) Average Rating: 6.07 Of Liverpool’s four midfield signings last summer, Gravenberch has taken longest to adjust. The talent is there, but the Reds needed more from the Dutchman in 2023/24, with his performances proving to be enigmatic. Perhaps we need to remember he only turned 22 at the end of the season.   21. Darwin Nunez Starts (Sub): 33 (21) Average Rating: 6.35 Perhaps Liverpool’s most talked-about player, Nunez had good moments – late winners at Nottingham Forest and Newcastle – but much more is required to justify his price tag. Eleven Premier League goals – fewer than Nicolas Jackson, Chris Wood and Yoane Wissa – is not good enough for a player who gets into so many good positions. Hopefully Slot can help him find more composure in front of goal.   20. Dominik Szoboszlai Starts (Sub): 30 (15) Average Rating: 6.42 After a blistering start in which he looked like a world-beater, Szoboszlai tailed off the more the season went on, with fatigue kicking in. It is hard to know just how high the Hungarian’s ceiling is, but at just 23 supporters should have faith in him being a big player for years to come.   =18. Ibrahima Konate Starts (Sub): 29 (8) Average Rating: 6.57 There have to be some concerns surrounding Konate at this point, with his inability to stay fit becoming a genuine issue. Not only that, but he lost his place to Jarell Quansah at the end of the season. There were good performances from the centre-back, but his stock certainly isn’t as high as a year ago.   =18. Cody Gakpo Starts (Sub): 32 (21) Average Rating: 6.57 In many ways, Gakpo is the anti-Nunez, cutting an elegant figure but guilty of not getting involved in games enough. It went under the radar that he scored 16 goals in all competitions, but that shouldn’t hide the fact that more is needed from him.   17. Joel Matip Starts (Sub): 12 (2) Average Rating: 6.71 Matip has left Liverpool after eight years, with his injury-plagued 2023/24 season clouding his time at Anfield. That heartbreaking own goal at Tottenham aside, the 32-year-old was impressive before his ACL setback – but he was limited to only 12 starts.   16. Trent Alexander-Arnold Starts (Sub): 29 (8) Average Rating: 6.85 Like so many, injuries made it hard for Alexander-Arnold to consistently find his top level, making for a mixed campaign. There were sublime moments, however, including a dramatic winner at home to Fulham and a trademark free-kick at Craven Cottage. Will Slot turn him into an out-and-out midfielder moving forward?   15. Andy Robertson Starts (Sub): 23 (7) Average Rating: 6.92 Like Alexander-Arnold, Robertson has had more eye-catching seasons but he was perfectly solid when he was in the team. At 30, the Scot’s absolute peak may be behind him, casting doubt over his long-term future as a regular starter, but he didn’t let Liverpool down often.   =13. Bobby Clark Starts (Sub): 3 (9) Average Rating: 7.14 It was a breakthrough campaign for Clark, who made 12 appearances, scored his first Liverpool goal and featured in the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea. What the future holds for the 19-year-old remains to be seen – there is so much competition for places in midfield – but he will always be able to cherish a positive impact in 2023/24.   =13. Luis Diaz Starts (Sub): 42 (9) Average Rating: 7.14 In a season that saw him deal with the kidnapping of his parents, Diaz’s spirit was out in full force, as he ran himself into the ground. While his effort levels could never be questioned, his finishing could, and his lack of elite end product stops him from being world class. Could Liverpool even cash in this summer?   12. Wataru Endo Starts (Sub): 34 (9) Average Rating: 7.21 Few expected Endo to feature so prominently when he joined from Stuttgart but he ended up becoming somewhat of a cult hero, making 43 appearances. Like Szoboszlai, tiredness set in and his influence waned late in the season, but he was a tenacious presence, proving to be a key starter at a crucial stage.   11. Curtis Jones Starts (Sub): 24 (12) Average Rating: 7.28 Had it not been for some injury problems, Jones could easily have featured higher on this list. At one point the Scouser felt like an indispensable part of the midfield, but fitness issues affected his rhythm in the end. There is so much more to come if he can stay fit for long periods.   10. Diogo Jota Starts (Sub): 19 (13) Average Rating: 7.42 Speaking of injuries, just imagine if Jota had played every game in 2023/24! When available, the Portuguese was ruthless, scoring 15 goals in just 19 starts, showing that he is the best finisher at Liverpool. He actually finished the campaign with one league goal fewer than Nunez in 895 fewer minutes. Being constantly sidelined is no help to anyone, though.   9. Mohamed Salah Starts (Sub): 34 (10) Average Rating: 7.50 By his standards, this wasn’t a great season for Salah – possibly his worst in a Liverpool shirt, in fact. The Reds legend still scored 25 times and registered 14 assists in all competitions, but recorded his lowest league goals (18) since joining the club. It was a poor end to the campaign, with time at the Africa Cup of Nations and subsequent injuries taking their toll.   8. Harvey Elliott Starts (Sub): 27 (26) Average Rating: 7.85 No Liverpool player was a more effective substitute than Elliott in 2023/24, in what was a highly impressive season overall, recording 11 assists in all competitions (only Nunez and Salah recorded more, with 13). Still only 21, the Englishman grew in stature, both in terms of belief and physicality, and he could become a massive player under Slot. Fitting him into a specific role from the start of games is not easy, though.   7. Joe Gomez Starts (Sub): 31 (20) Average Rating: 8.00 Having been poor last term, Gomez enjoyed an excellent campaign, making 51 appearances and shining as a left-back in particular. That first-ever goal continues to evade him, but he was impressive defensively and found a more consistent level than most. Gomez’s form looks likely to see him make England’s final squad for Euro 2024, which is richly deserved.   =5. Conor Bradley Starts (Sub): 17 (6) Average Rating: 8.07 Few would have seen Bradley coming of age like he has this season, but he suddenly looks like a genuine right-back option. The Northern Irishman’s display at home to Chelsea was outstanding and possibly the best by any Liverpool player throughout the campaign. A combination of Alexander-Arnold and Robertson, it is going to be fascinating to see how Bradley develops with Slot in charge.   =5. Caoimhin Kelleher Starts (Sub): 26 (0) Average Rating: 8.07 When Alisson got injured in the New Year there was reason to be worried, but Kelleher was fantastic in his place. The 25-year-old was a Man of the Match contender in the Carabao Cup final, making several big saves, and he rarely let Liverpool down at any point. Could he move elsewhere this summer to be a No. 1?   4. Alisson Starts (Sub): 32 (0) Average Rating: 8.14 Alisson remains the best goalkeeper in world football and he was typically reliable once again in 2023/24, even though he missed a chunk of action. The Brazilian bailed his side out on so many occasions, and while he wasn’t perfect – the mistake at Arsenal and some sloppy distribution, for example – Liverpool wouldn’t want anyone else between the sticks. Still only 31, which is nothing for a ‘keeper.   3. Jarell Quansah Starts (Sub): 27 (6) Average Rating: 8.28 Quansah’s meteoric rise came from nowhere, but he ended the season as Virgil van Dijk‘s first-choice partner at centre-back. An error at Man United aside, the youngster was largely immaculate, combining class on the ball with a strong reading of play. Quansah has even made England’s provisional squad for the Euros – imagine being told that last summer!   2. Alexis Mac Allister Starts (Sub): 40 (6) Average Rating: 8.42 Liverpool may well have found their next legendary midfielder in Mac Allister. Having eased his way in, not always looking comfortable as a No. 6, the Argentine grew into a majestic presence further up the pitch, a huge influence on and off the ball. Stunning goals against Fulham and Sheffield United outlined his eye for the spectacular, but the more subtle aspects of Mac Allister’s game are just as impressive.   1. Virgil van Dijk Starts (Sub): 45 (3) Average Rating: 8.71 Mac Allister pushed him close, but Van Dijk takes home the highest average rating, following a season that saw him back to his very best. In his first season as Liverpool captain, the Dutchman was near-perfect in so many games, and it often felt like he was holding together a creaking defence. Van Dijk may be 32 now, but he should remain one of the first names on the teamsheet for years to come. Contributors: @mattla...

Rulani Mokwena defends Sundowns star
Mamelodi Sundowns star Mothobi Mvala is most likely feeling a little down after a defining mistake against Cape Town City on Saturday. His coach Rulani Mokwena has come to his defence. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR MOTHOBI MVALA AT FAULT FOR CAPE TOWN CITY DEFEAT The club known as Kabo Yellow were 25 minutes away from finishing the season without a loss, but Mvala’s defensive mistake allowed City’s Jayden Rhodes to score and destroy Sundowns’ invincible dream. Speaking to the media after the result, coach Mokwena sent support to Mvala, also known as “Dragon.” “He knows that I love him like I love all my players. We all make mistakes and I make more mistakes than anyone else and it’s part of football you know,” Mokwena said as quoted by the Citizen. COMING BACK STRONGER Looking ahead, Mokwena believes that South Africa and the African continent have not seen the best of his current Sundowns team. The congested schedule and the Afcon tournament in January took a toll on his players. “I think we can only get better because I don’t even think we are at 65% of our potential. Maybe that’s where we’re flirting at the moment and we’ve got so much work to do,” Mokwena added. “A little bit of our progress has been derailed by the fact that we’ve had no training time and a lot of players coming in have needed time to train. Last season the biggest gap was the January window that we had, we had a mini pre-season break and we had time to work,” the Sundowns mentor added. “This time we had AFCON and we didn’t even have most of our players. I think with a good pre-season and rest and a good Nedbank final, we can reflect on where we are and want to go as a group. “My perspective is completely different from a lot of people’s perspective. When people see mistakes, I see 29 games of incredible effort and that is the perspective I choose. He will definitely see it the same way I see it because he will get the emotions from me. “My players know how much I’m with them and I’ve been with Mothobi Mvala through a lot of things. With all the players, I support them and there are a lot of things that you guys don’t know about this group and the connection I have with them so you can be rest assured that Mvala will see the perspective that I see,” the Sundowns tactician concluded

Man United to wait until close of summer transfer window to hand Kobbie Mainoo new deal Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United are reportedly set to wait until the close of the upcoming transfer window before handing rising star Kobbie Mainoo a new and improved contract. A fresh deal to safeguard Mainoo’s future and to tie him down to United in the long term has been a topic of discussion within the club for some time now. The teenager’s emergence has been one of the few positives for United during a tumultuous and incredibly challenging campaign that saw the club finish in eighth position in the Premier League. He made 24 appearances in the top flight and managed three goals and one assist. Mainoo has continuously earned praise and widespread plaudits for his calm and composed displays in the middle of the park. He produced a man-of-the-match performance on Saturday at Wembley as United beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Mainoo’s goal secured the victory for United against Pep Guardiola’s men. His sensational display led to Paul Scholes saying that the youngster is ten times the player he was at the same age – high praise indeed from one of the best to ever do it. According to The Telegraph, Mainoo is guaranteed to be offered fresh terms but this will happen after the club’s transfer business this summer is concluded. The newspaper states, “Mainoo signed a three-year contract in February last year that ties him to the club until June 2026. United plan to reward Mainoo with a new deal to reflect his growing standing and importance in the team.” “But it is understood that the thrust of those conversations are expected to wait until after the summer window closes on Aug 30, given the amount of work United have to do in the meantime trying to reshape the squad – and potentially under a new manager.” James Ducker adds, “The Mainoo camp are thought to be relaxed about the situation and placing no great pressure on the club, with relations strong between both parties.” All focus for Mainoo now shifts to international duty with England ahead of Euro 2024. The youngster was named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad and it’s hard to envision a final list without his name on it. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? OPEN LETTER to Benni McCarthy: Avoid Kaizer Chiefs like a biblical plague
Kaizer Chiefs are looking for a new manager. Although Benni McCarthy might be on their shortlist, he should avoid the Glamour Boys at all costs. Benni McCarthy is still basking in FA Cup success The Bafana Bafana legend has been part of silverware-laden seasons for two years running. The Red Devils, for all of their struggles, lifted the EFL Cup last season and bagged the FA Cup on Saturday by beating Man City. It wasn’t quite a tactical masterclass from Erik Ten Hag but it was close. Stories of Ten Hag’s imminent exit from the club dominated social in the buildup to Saturday’s final and if it was his last game in charge, the former Ajax boss produced one of his best tactical displays in one of his biggest matches. Teenagers Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho scored the goals for a counter-attacking United side while Jeremy Doku grabbed what only proved to be a late consolation for City. It was United’s 13th FA Cup win, they’re now just one win behind all-time leaders Arsenal. Benni signing off from United? Image: Goal Chiefs job would be lucrative, but at what cost? Sure, Kaizer Chiefs can probably offer Benni McCarthy a massive salary but would it be worth all the pressure, instability and scrutiny? Besides, Pitso Mosimane is the more senior candidate and is likely the man Amakhosi’s board want the most. Benni shouldn’t settle for being the second or third choice and rather take up a head coach role where he’s THE prime candidate. Next season, Amakhosi don’t even have MTN8 football in the bag and you wouldn’t fancy their chances of going deep in the Nedbank Cup. They’re also unlikely to mount any credible challenge after finishing tenth, some 37 points behind champions Sundowns. Pitso Mosimane and Sead Ramovic are otherwise engaged Meanwhile, two prime candidates for the role have much more important fish to fry right now. TS Galaxy boss Sead Ramovic called Chiefs ‘the most beautiful club in South Africa’ but reaffirmed his commitment to The Rockets. The legendary Pitso Mosimane is one win away from securing top-flight status for Abha in the Saudi Pro League next season. Can he do it? Pitso Mosimane celebrates. Image: @safootclassics/X. Southampton promoted to the Premier League after Leeds win
Southampton promoted to the Premier League after Leeds win
Southampton clinched promotion back to the Premier League after a one-year exile as Adam Armstrong sealed a 1-0 win against Leeds in the Championship playoff final on Sunday. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Armstrong’s first-half strike at Wembley ensured Southampton erased the bitter taste of last year’s relegation from the top-flight with an immediate return. Victory in football’s single richest match will give Southampton an estimated £140 million windfall due to the increases in matchday, broadcast and commercial revenue for clubs who reach the Premier League. Southampton won the 1976 FA Cup Financial experts Deloitte say Southampton could eventually bank £305 million if they avoid relegation next season. While the cash prize is a huge bonus, it is the prestige of competing with Manchester City and Arsenal, rather than second-tier minnows like Plymouth and Oxford, that fuelled Southampton’s hunger to regain their Premier League status after a year in purgatory. Southampton, whose only major honour is the 1976 FA Cup, had spent 11 years in the Premier League prior to their relegation. They will hope this success, celebrated by over 35 000 of their fans at Wembley, is the prelude to another lengthy spell among the elite. In their first ever play-off final, Southampton made it three wins over Leeds this term despite finishing three points behind the Elland Road club in the regular season. Saints boss Russell Martin has become widely admired for his purist passing principles and this was the 38-year-old’s crowning glory. Martin was managing in League One with Milton Keynes Dons just three years ago, but he has transformed Southampton in his first season in charge, to such an extent that they boasted more possession than any team in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Securing promotion at Leeds boss Daniel Farke’s expense was a sweet moment for Martin after his Norwich contract was terminated by the German during their time together at Carrow Road in 2018. Defeat was a bitter blow for Farke and Leeds, who were relegated alongside Southampton last season. Back to the promised land American socialite Paris Hilton and movie star Will Ferrell – a minority shareholder in the club – had made good luck videos for Farke’s side, but there was no Hollywood ending for Leeds. On the 35th anniversary of the death of their legendary manager Don Revie, Leeds were well below their best in the club’s fourth play-off final loss. After losing their grip on an automatic promotion place that went instead to Ipswich, the three-time English champions remain without a win at Wembley since 1992. With Rain Man actor Dustin Hoffman watching from the stands, it was fitting that the heavens opened over Wembley as a torrential downpour hit just before kick-off. Leeds made a fast start but Southampton weathered the storm and as the sun appeared through the clouds, they gradually took control. Will Smallbone threatened to put Southampton ahead with a 30-yard free-kick that was clawed away by Illan Meslier. It was a warning Leeds failed to heed as Southampton snatched the lead with a clinical raid in the 24th minute. Eluded the offside trap Armstrong had scored twice in the play-off semi-final win over West Brom and the striker showcased his predatory instincts again with his 24th goal this season. Cleverly eluding the Leeds offside trap with a well-timed run, Armstrong met Smallbone’s pass with a superb strike into the far corner from 12 yards. Leeds were rocked and Armstrong nearly struck again from another instinctive shot from Smallbone’s quick free-kick, but this time Meslier was able to parry his close-range effort. Early in the second half, Leeds defender Joe Rodon embarked on a rampaging run that looked certain to end in a goal until Taylor Harwood-Bellis threw himself into a last-ditch block. Leeds pushed hard for an equaliser, but Daniel James’ blast cannoned back off the bar before the winger was denied by Alex McCarthy’s stoppage-time save as Southampton celebrated their return to the promised land. Christian Eriksen to sit tight at Man United in case of potential reunion with Mauricio Pochettino Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly poised to “sit tight” at the club and not leave just yet amidst the possibility of a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino. Eriksen, who earns around £150,000-a-week at United, is believed to be one of the players Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are keen on parting ways with in the summer. Not only is Eriksen declining and on the wrong end of his impressive career, but he’s also one of the highest earners at Old Trafford. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that he, alongside Casemiro, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane are four players who’ve been identified to leave very early into the upcoming transfer window. Varane’s exit has already been confirmed and there are question marks over the other three. It was stated that the Red Devils are even prepared to let Eriksen depart for a small fee. He has been linked with a return to Ajax. However, according to The Sun, it’s not a foregone conclusion that Eriksen’s adventure at United is already over and the Dane could be handed a lifeline if Pochettino were to replace Erik ten Hag in the dugout. Pressure is mounting on Ten Hag and there is still a real possibility that he could be sacked despite masterminding a brilliant 2-1 win against Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday. Pochettino – who left Chelsea by mutual consent last week – has been touted as a potential successor to the under-fire Dutchman. Eriksen and Pochettino have a history together stemming from their time back in North London at Tottenham Hotspur. The Sun reveals, “Christian Eriksen will be handed the chance to rejoin first club Ajax this summer — if Manchester United agree to a pay-off.” “But the Danish midfielder, 32, is set to sit tight until Erik ten Hag’s future is sorted, in case his old Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino comes in.” “It’s reckoned Pochettino is keen on an immediate return and could make Eriksen one of his key players once again.” It’s important to note that Eriksen has 12 months left on his United contract. In the just-concluded season, the Denmark international made 28 appearances across all competitions. He found his minutes drastically reduced in the second part of the campaign following the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Mvala is his own worst enemy
Mvala is his own worst enemy
It’s not like the Mvala is a youngster who is learning on the job. He’s a Bafana Bafana international with loads of experience. Mothobi Mvala can be his own worst enemy at times. ALSO READ: Pirates qualify for Champions League after draw with SuperSport Don’t get me wrong because on his day, the Mamelodi Sundowns defender is one of the best players in his position. However, his mistake that led to the 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld is unforgivable. Okay, maybe I’m being too harsh but what was he thinking? Football is a team sport but the loss to The Citizens is down to him. How do you try to dribble from the back when you’re the last man in defence? Jeadin Rhodes rightfully made him pay for the ill-advised gamble in a game that had so much riding on it. Rhodes robbed Mvala off the ball and went on to score the winner and in the process denied the Brazilians the invincible tag. Such individual mistakes will not help his course to repair the love and hate relationship he has with the Sundowns faithful. It’s not like the Mvala is a youngster who is learning on the job. He’s a Bafana Bafana international with loads of experience. The most sensible thing to do would have been to clear his lines and not take chances. Not only did let himself down but he let his teammates down and everyone associated with the club. Yes, no one is perfect and mistakes do happen but that schoolboy error should have been avoided. Masandawanas are unforgiving and that mistake will live long in their memories. I don’t advocate for the abuse directed his way on social media because it’s way over the top. In all honesty, I don’t think Sundowns fans have forgiven him for another high profile mistake during last season’s Caf Champions League semifinal against Wydad Casablanca where he scored an own goal that knocked the Tshwane giants out of the coveted club competition. ALSO READ: City stun Sundowns to deny them invincible tag As expected, Rulani Mokwena defended the much-maligned 29-year-old but it would be sensible to rest him for Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates. Mvala is a big boy and he will probably recover from this latest episode but he can’t afford to be a repeat offender in games of consequence.

Darwin Nunezs latest comments dismiss idea of rift with Jurgen Klopp Liverpool FC
Darwin Nunezs latest comments dismiss idea of rift with Jurgen Klopp Liverpool FC
In the era of social media and an eagerness to analyse every small detail, Darwin Nunez‘s relationship with Jurgen Klopp came into question, but his latest comments suggest there are no issues. No Liverpool player made more appearances than Nunez in 2023/24, with Klopp calling upon his forward in 54 of the 58 games – and injury ruled him out of three of those matches he missed. He had a frustrating season with the second-most big chances missed of all Premier League players (24), behind only Erling Haaland (34), as per FotMob. Add to that, his relationship with Klopp came under the microscope, which intensified after he appeared not to have clapped the manager during his guard of honour. But after arriving in Uruguay ahead of the Copa America, Nunez’s words dismissed any notion of issues with Klopp. He said, as quoted by El Pais: “We were all a little shocked by Klopp’s departure, no one expected it. It is a shame that he is leaving. “I personally would like him to [have left] in a big way, winning things, and it didn’t happen that way. “It’s also a shame for the players. I wish him the best in the world.” Not exactly what a player would say if he was happy to see the back of his manager. There has been speculation over Nunez’s future after he deleted all traces of Liverpool from his public Instagram, but it has been widely reported that there are no plans to sell the No. 9 this summer. In fact, after Arne Slot was announced as the new head coach at Anfield, reports emerged that the Dutchman sees Nunez as “critical” to his plans. He could well be a project player for Slot, who will hope the Uruguayan can discover a ruthless streak that will flip the script and discourse over a heavily debated player.

City were well below the standards they showed during their blistering march to an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title. Pep Guardiola took the blame for Manchester City’s shock 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in the FA Cup final as the boss admitted his game-plan backfired on Saturday. ALSO READ: Ten Hag unclear on future despite Man Utd FA Cup win Guardiola’s side failed to become the first team to win the Premier League and FA Cup in the same season for two successive years after a surprisingly tame performance at Wembley. City were well below the standards they showed during their blistering march to an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title. Rocked by first half goals from United teenagers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, City could only get one back after the interval through Jeremy Doku’s late strike. City looked lethargic for long periods, but Guardiola said it was his tactical plan that was at fault rather than a post-title hangover. “My game plan was not good. We were not in the right positions to attack them. It was my decision,” he said. “The players were focused. Tactically, it was not good. The players know it. “It was a tight game, we gave away the first goal and the second we didn’t close well enough. “The second half was much better because we were more intense. We had the chances, unfortunately we scored a little bit late.” Guardiola conceded it was a frustrating way to end another memorable season for City, who have won the Premier League six times in the last seven years. The Spaniard and his players will hold a title parade in Manchester on Sunday despite their Wembley woe and Guardiola wants them to enjoy the occasion. “Congratulations to Manchester United. They are always a transition team. At the end they scored two goals and we couldn’t score more,” he said. “It’s disappointing, that’s normal in a final but this season has been extraordinary, fighting for all the titles. “Now we are sad but tomorrow we celebrate the incredible achievements we have done. Then we come back next season. “We celebrated this week. When you get 91 points, it’s because you win a lot of games. We have to be incredibly proud.” ALSO READ: Man United stun Man City in FA Cup final to give Ten Hag hope of avoiding the sack United’s first FA Cup triumph in eight years could be the last time Erik ten Hag takes charge of City’s neighbours amid reports he faces the sack regardless of the victory. Guardiola paid tribute to Ten Hag, who has won two trophies in two years but oversaw United’s lowest Premier League finish since 1990 this term. “They had to take a decision, so I don’t know. He’s a lovely person, an extraordinary manager,” Guardiola said. “Of course winning the FA Cup is important to them.”

OPEN letter to Percy Tau: Time to return to SA but not Kaizer Chiefs
Percy Tau will have plenty of suitors should he move back to South Africa. Kaizer Chiefs will be interested but has better options. There’s too much uncertainty at Kaizer Chiefs Next season, Amakhosi don’t even have MTN8 football in the bag and you wouldn’t fancy their chances of going deep in the Nedbank Cup. They’re also unlikely to mount any type of credible challenge after finishing tenth, some 37 points behind champions Sundowns. The Chiefs Naturena Village in all its glory. Image: Ernest Makhaya Perhaps a move to Orlando Pirates is on the cards? Pirates can offer CAF Champions League football, and their recent record in cup competitions will be alluring too. They’ve won back-to-back MTN8 crowns and will be crying for a three-peat in 2024/2025. They’re also just a game away from defending the Nedbank Cup. PITSO MOSIMANE DESCRIBES PERCY TAU Jingles describes Tau as a self-driven, dedicated footballer who doesn’t need micromanaging. “He’s that student who you say give me this assignment in five days and then after two says he’s done,” he said. “He respects the game.” With notable giants like Sundowns, Brighton, Club Brugge, Anderlecht and Al Ahly on his CV, among others, Percy Tau has the pedigree and experience to pick and choose. Will he select the right option? His career is at a crossroads as his Al Ahly future hangs in the balance. In the unlikely event that Chiefs somehow lure Pitso over to Naturena, that could throw a rat amongst the pigeons. Percy Tau celebrates winning the Fifa Club World Cup with Ahly: Image via Facebook at Percy Muzi Tau Jingles has problems of his own Pitso Mosimane’s mandate was to keep Abha in the top flight when he took over in January. If they get relegated, that’ll undoubtedly be a huge stain on his otherwise stellar managerial career. Abha claimed a critical 2-1 win against Al Khaleej in their last match, and their final fixture is against rock-bottom Al-Hazm. A win there would guarantee safety for Mosimane and his team. Musona vs Pitso in a relegation battle? What about Knowledge Musona and Al-Riyadh? They’re not out of the woods after a disappointing 2-2 draw with 10-man Al Nassr. They’re only above Abha on goal difference and could be reeled in by 16th-placed Al Tai, Musona’s old team. Al-Riyadh is away to Al Khaleej and Al-Tai faces 18th-placed Al Akhdoud on the final day. All matches kick off at 20:00 (SA time) on Monday 27 May. If Abha and Al-Tai win their matches and Al-Riyadh fails to do the same, they and Musona will be relegated. It’s going down to the wire. 3 of Liverpool FCs top 10 goalscoring seasons were under Jurgen Klopp Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool with a multitude of records to his name, including three of the club’s highest-ever goalscoring seasons across all competitions. The Reds have been the home of prestigious managers and players alike, ones who have etched their names into the history of the club. Klopp is one of those having transformed the club from a team floundering outside the European places to one you expect to lift silverware and compete at the top table of continental football. His teams entertained from the word go, knowing how to find the net with regularity – so much so that he is responsible for three of Liverpool’s highest goalscoring campaigns ever. The 2021/22 season sits at the top, with 147 goals scored, a tally that will be hard to eclipse – though 2023/24 ran it close with 142 successful strikes! To close out the top three, you have to turn the clock back to 1985/86 when Kenny Dalglish managed the side and led the Reds to a domestic double. In each of those Klopp seasons, it was Salah who was the top goalscorer and he accounts for 100 goals – that is 24 percent of the tally across the three seasons combined! Of course, the modern era opens the door for more goals due to the fact that clubs are playing more games than ever before, but it is still a nod to what Klopp gifted us at Anfield. Out of every manager in the club’s history, only Tom Watson and Bill Shankly oversaw more goals – we were certainly entertained throughout the German’s nine campaigns on Merseyside! It leaves a lot for Arne Slot to live up to, but more than anything, memories are not in short supply when it comes to reminiscing on our time under Klopp.

Predicted Orlando Pirates XI for the Nedbank Cup final
Orlando Pirates shift their planning to the Nedbank Cup final against Sundowns after securing CAF Champions League football. Orlando Pirates predicted XI vs Sundowns in Nedbank Cup final Chaine; Monyane, Ndah, Sesane, Hotto; Mbatha, Makhaula; Saleng, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa BUCS WELCOME BACK HOTTO The latest update from the Pirates website is as follows: “The Buccaneers are bolstered further by the return of Deon Hotto, who has recovered after picking up a knock in the Nedbank Cup semifinal triumph over Chippa United.” Hotto started the 1-1 draw against SuperSport and his experience and know-how could be vital. Key defender Tapelo Xoki will miss the game after being ruled out for the rest of the campaign. The 29-year-old central defender made 26 appearances in the league and three in the Nedbank Cup. He’s also grabbed three goals in that competition. Xoki suffered a serious ankle injury in training and needs surgery.  ORLANDO PIRATES SECURE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL The Sea Robbers could only manage a 1-1 draw against SuperSport but that was enough to secure second place ahead of Stellies, who lost 2-1 at Richards Bay. Pirates and Stellenbosch finished level on 50 points but the Sea Robbers boast a superior goal difference. Riveiro’s men are looking for an almost unprecedented three-peat in the MTN8 after winning the last two editions. PIRATES TO RELEASE A DOZEN STARS? According to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates will sell, release or loan out up to 12 senior players. “The people in the office are working hard on that list of players who will be leaving the team. It’s not an easy one but there will be an overhaul at the end of the season. Most of the players whose contracts are coming to an end won’t be renewed as the club is looking at bringing in new blood as well. As far as I am concerned most of those whose contracts were reviewed last season for one season won’t be staying. It will be like a total clear out,” said the source to the publication. “Among those rumoured to be on the exit list are goalkeepers Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane, defenders Bandile Shandu, Bongani Sam, and Sandile Mthethwa, as well as midfielders Vincent Pule, Monnapule Saleng, Thabang Monare, Fortune Makaringe, and Deon Hotto. Strikers Kermit Erasmus and Cameroonian Souaibou Marou are also mentioned as potential departures.”  Kermit Erasmus of Orlando Pirates celebrates victory with fans during the DStv Premiership 2022/23 football match between Swallows FC and Orlando Pirates at Dobsonville Stadium, Johannesburg on 03 March 2023 ©Gavin Barker/BackpagePix. Were going to talk: Sofyan Amrabat says staying at Man United is certainly an option Man United News And Transfer News
1 Sofyan Amrabat has hinted that he could stay at Manchester United for a bit longer, well beyond his loan tenure. He joined United last summer from Fiorentina to much expectations and fanfare. Like most of his teammates, the Moroccan endured an inconsistent and tumultuous season that saw him make 30 appearances across all competitions. He started just 10 Premier League matches, some of which he was required to play at left-back due to the club’s injury crisis on that part of the pitch. As United beat Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday at Wembley in the FA Cup final, Amrabat was sensational in his favoured role in the middle of the park. He was a force to reckon with in the midfield alongside young Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes. His scintillating display led United icon Paul Scholes to draw comparisons with AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils are set to let Amrabat leave and they do not intend on triggering the £21million buy option contained in the deal that was signed by Fiorentina. He’s not short of of interest and has admirers both in Italy and in the Premier League, with the likes of Fulham and Crystal Palace understood to be keen on securing his services. However, according to Amrabat, his desire is to remain at Old Trafford and play for United. He told Ziggo Sport after the final whistle vs. City, “Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk.” “Staying is certainly an option. Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United it needs to be much better, and also for me personally.” Amrabat remarked about playing at left-back, “That wasn’t easy. I have always remained calm and trained very hard. Ultimately, that patience has been rewarded.” “We are going to talk. Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so who wouldn’t want to play football here? But all parties have to be happy with each other, so we will sit down now and see what happens.” The 27-year-old lauded Ten Hag for his incredible game plan against City, which worked to perfection. ‘Perfect plan, 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 uitgevoerd’ Sofyan Amrabat na het winnen van de FA Cup #ZiggoSport #FACup #MCIMUN pic.twitter.com/avG0RTUU5E — Ziggo Sport Voetbal (@ZS_Voetbal) May 25, 2024 Amrabat revealed that everything Ten Hag predicted about the game came true. Mason Greenwood shines despite Getafe suffering late heartbreak in La Liga clash vs. Mallorca Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood dazzled once again as Getafe played their last La Liga clash of the 2023/24 season against Mallorca. Heading into the game, Getafe were on a run of four consecutive defeats stretching back to their 2-0 loss at the hands of Athletic Club earlier this month. Against Mallorca on Sunday afternoon, Jose Bordalas’ men took the lead just three minutes after the break through defender Gaston Alvarez. Getafe led for most of the proceedings and looked set for a win and the chance to end their season on a relatively high note but it wasn’t to be. Strikes in the 90th and 93rd minute from Vedat Muriqi and Pablo Maffeo respectively added to Greenwood and his teammates’ woes as they were denied a share of the points. However, as has largely been the case this season and even in their recent difficult run, Greenwood gave a good account of himself and can lift his head high. The United loanee started on the right side of a 4-1-4-1 formation. During the 90 minutes plus additional time that he was on the pitch, the forward registered 55 touches of the ball. He successfully delivered 32 of the 35 passes he attempted, managing an individual pass completion rate of 91%. Greenwood tried to find his intended target with one cross and four long balls. He couldn’t connect with his single crossing attempt but found a blue shirt with three of the long balls he pinged. Across the match, he fired six shots, four of which were off-target, while two of these required Ivan Cuellar in the Mallorca net to swing into immediate action. Greenwood embarked on two dribbles and completed one. He was solid defensively, winning five out of nine ground duels he engaged in, though he was unsuccessful in both aerial challenges he faced. He also put in one tackle. (Stats obtained from Sofascore) Now that both Getafe and United’s respective seasons are done and dusted, both clubs will be eager to address the elephant in the room – where Greenwood will be playing his football next season. Unsurprisingly, the Spanish outfit want to keep him for a bit longer but they face competition from the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid, who have far deeper pockets. What Pitso Mosimane says about coaching Kaizer Chiefs
What Pitso Mosimane says about coaching Kaizer Chiefs
Pitso Mosimane insists that emotion isn’t part of the equation when deciding his next move as a coach and won’t influence whether he takes a job at Kaizer Chiefs or anywhere else. Mosimane is all business when he decides on taking up an appointment. The coach added that the enormity of the task also doesn’t put him off. Emotion cloud Kaizer Chiefs decision for Pitso Mosimane Mosimane is among the names mentioned as potential Kaizer Chiefs coaches and he has insisted that nothing is off the table. However, all the business elements of the decision have to be in place. That includes the vision shown by the club itself. Mosimane says that the club need to show him that they have a proper plan for the future before he will get on board. “The issue is what are their short and long-term plans,” Mosimane said.  “It is like in business, it works like that. But we are also businesspeople, and also this is a career, make no mistake. Ask Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp – this is not charity, this is not which club you supported when you were young. “There must be a proper plan and a proper vision, to say ‘do you want this?’ I can coach any team, in the country, in Africa, in the gulf, the US, Europe, but it has to be proper,” he added. A massive job at an important club Mosimane doesn’t think that the Kaizer Chiefs task is beyond him feeling that he could turn things around if given the reins. “Kaizer Chiefs not winning a trophy for eight years, these things happen. I can put out the fires. He insisted: “I have always had to put out fires, all my career. I will have to do things that were not done [at the club] in the last six years,” Mosimane added. “When I arrived at Mamelodi Sundowns, they had not won a single trophy in six years, and they were number 14 on the PSL log table. “It is like in business, it works like that. Kaizer Chiefs always had star players, and they were beating everybody, that is why the brand is big.” Kaizer Chiefs are expected to appoint a new head coach in the coming weeks. Many names have been linked with the job but fans clearly want Mosimane to take the job. Mosimane has not indicated whether or not he will take the position.

Cape Town City lead the race to sign former Mamelodi Sundowns star
It has been reported that former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Haashim Domingo has landed back in the country and is in advanced talks to join Cape Town City. The 28-year-old parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, the winners of the DStv Premiership, on a free transfer.  Cape Town City lead the race to sign Haashim Domingo? He then joined Raja Casablanca over a year ago, but he has now returned home and is anticipated to make Mother City his permanent home. Domingo signed a two-year contract with the Moroccan giants, who are led by former Orlando Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer, and he had high expectations for his tenure there. Former Pirates mentor Fadlu Davids also serves as Zinnabuer’s assistant at Raja. However, as the SABC Sport revealed in April, the striker was compelled to have FIFA manage his conflict with Raja Casablanca after the team neglected to pay arrears for a number of months. Haashim Domingo free to find a new club It is now being reported that the two parties have now reached an agreement on the debt, allowing Domingo to become a free agent and find a club to continue his career. For some time now, there have been rumours circulating that City is searching for an offensive midfield player in an attempt to bolster a team that placed fifth in the 2023–2024 season. This is in line with coach Eric Tinkler’s goals. In addition, only the Citizens defeated Sundowns in the league during the season, which concluded on Saturday afternoon. Domingo will probably be City’s first acquisition when the transfer market opens in July. Former Mamelodi Sundowns star seeks homecoming Domingo left the now-defunct Bidvest Wits to join Downs in September 2020. Before joining Raja, he won three league titles with the Tshwane giants.  “Reports that City have been looking for an attacking midfielder have been doing the rounds for some time now as coach Eric Tinkler hopes to beef up a squad that finished the 2023/24 season in fifth place. “The Citizens are also the only team to beat Sundowns in the league during the campaign that wrapped up on Saturday afternoon – and Domingo is likely to be City’s first signing ahead of the transfer window opening in July. “Domingo joined Downs in September 2020 from the now defunct Bidvest Wits and went on to win three league titles with the Tshwane giants prior to signing for Raja,” an SABC Sport report reads.

Former Sundowns star surprised by Baroka legend
Peoole inside the game love to say Mamelodi Sundowns‘ legendary former midfielder Hlompho Kekana has a bright future in coaching. One legendary coach from Baroka FC left his inspired in an expected way. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LEGEND HLOMPHO KEKANA INSPIRED BY KGOLOKO THOBEJANE “I was telling one of my colleagues now in the SABC there, there is one man who blew my mind when it comes to football knowledge, and that was Kgoloko Thobejane,” Kekana told iDiski Times. “For me and I still didn’t get enough of the knowledge that he possesses in terms of the game. “And it’s funny because when you see him in post-match, he doesn’t speak about all those things and you ask yourself how? He taught us so much in the space that we spent some time with him,” the former Sundowns number six added. “I am lost for words to explain how refreshing it was to just be around him. Because I was told about him before, even when I was a kid I always knew of him and how great he was as a footballer, around there, around Limpopo. “To know that he’s got that knowledge, to learn that he’s got that knowledge, that was mind-blowing. “And they were like, ‘Do you know Screamer?’ and I like how they refer to him as Screamer as a nickname. And I was like, ‘Screamer?’ He looked at me and smiled and said, ‘You nearly killed me with this match, and I made sure that you didn’t do this’. “I realised this guy knows what he is doing. Because you recall all the things that you found difficult while playing against his teams. And he is quality. Alright, we played a match, and I couldn’t believe what a player he is still,” the Sundowns legend concluded. KEKANA WARNS KHUNE Meanwhile, Kekana recently sent a warning to the Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune for the 36-year-old’s reluctance to retire. “I wish he could understand and face the reality that he will never play forever,” Kekana said on SABC’s Soccer Zone, as per FARPost.  “At this stage that he finds himself in, one would say leave the game before you start hating the game. “The reality says the system doesn’t want you anymore. So when the system doesn’t want you anymore, make sure that you move. You don’t want to watch football one day and hate it. “He played for Bafana; he captained the Kaizer Chiefs team, which won the league. I mean, he has done so much. What point does he want to prove, and to whom?” the former Sundowns captain concluded. Is the Kabo Yellow legend right and should Itumeleng Khune take Kekana’s advice? Let us know inthe comments section below.
