Kaizer Chiefs are disrespecting Itumeleng Khune says club legend
Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye believes that Itumeleng Khune is the victim of disrespect. Khanye feels that the recent tribute to Khune was far too low-key considering what he has achieved at Naturena. Kaizer Chiefs are disrespecting Itumeleng Khune “Itumeleng Khune’s situation is painful, and it hurts me, and I can imagine what it is doing to him if it does this to me,” Khanye told Soccer Laduma.  “The guy didn’t deserve to be honoured in the way it was done over the weekend. He deserved more. This is the guy who sacrificed so much for the club over the years, having come through their development and he deserved a lot more than what I saw being done on Saturday.” Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly offered Khune a position on the club’s coaching staff. However, Khune has not been convinced to retire. Time to give up Former Sundowns star Hlompho Kekana believes that Khune should give up his playing career. “I wish he could understand and face the reality that he will never play forever,” Kekana told SABC’s Soccer Zone. “At this stage that he finds himself in, one would say leave the game before you start hating the game.” “The reality says the system doesn’t want you anymore. So when the system doesn’t want you anymore, make sure that you move. You don’t want to watch football one day and hate it. “He played for Bafana; he captained the Kaizer Chiefs team, which won the league. I mean, he has done so much. What point does he want to prove, and to whom?” Itumeleng Khune cannot let go Khune himself insists that he wants to emulate players like Gianluigi Buffon and play into his 40s. “I have been getting a lot of those questions [on when I’m retiring]. I look up to goalkeepers like Buffon, and those types of guys have kept me going,” Khune said according to Goal.com. “For people to keep on saying that I must retire, I don’t understand. I might not be getting game time as much as I want, but we had that discussion with the coach at the start of the season, and my role is to guide the others. “I can’t complain to the coach because I am not getting game time, I respect the coach, and he respects me. My experience is needed in the team. I want to play until I am 40 plus, but whether that will be at Kaizer Chiefs is up to the club and what I bring to the table. I am not ready to retire.”

TS Galaxy taking Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena to court
TS Galaxy taking Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena to court
TS Galaxy have filed a lawsuit against Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena over the comments he made against their coach Sead Ramovic. This comes after Mokwena accused Ramovic of instructing one of his players to injure Bongani Zungu last month when the two teams played for the second time this season. Downs won 3-0 but there was drama towards the end when TS Galaxy player Orebotse Mongae was given a red card. The war of words between Rulani Mokwena and Ramovic started last year in the Carling Knockout Cup. Zungu’s dangerous tackle on Bernard Parker saw the striker out of action for a lengthy period. Following Mongae’s tackle on Zungu, Mokwena claimed the incident was planned. Mokwena’s comments led the Mpumalanga-based club to take legal action. TS Galaxy has now taken the matter to the High Court, accusing the 37-year-old of defamation. According to SABC Sport, a copy of the High Court summons confirms TS Galaxy and Sead Ramovic as plaintiffs and Rulani Mokwena as the defendant. “The impugning statements comprise untrue and defamatory statements pertaining to the club and is indeed per se defamatory of the club, its players, head coach, technical team, players, staff and management as well as its supporters,” read the document sent by Galaxy to Sundowns and Mokwena as published by SABC Sport. TS Galaxy files lawsuit against Sundowns coach Mokwena “In the circumstances, we are instructed to demand, as we hereby do, that Mr Mokwena and, by extension, Sundowns immediately retract the impugning statements, and publish an unconditional, prominent and appropriate public apology [in the terms agreed to by the club] in both videographic and written forms, which should be prominently published on all prominent football social and other media platforms [including that of Sundowns], be it print and/or electronic.”  Rulani taken to court by The Rockets TS Galaxy and Sundowns met on Tuesday for the last time with Mokwena and Ramovic on the touchline. The match ended 1-1 with Masandawana maintaining their unbeaten record.

Mamelodi Sundowns coaches face jail threat in Mosimane saga!
The situation between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pitso Mosimane shows no sign of ending amicably. It has been well documented that Sundowns want Mosimane to pay R8.6 million they feel he owes them. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Mosimane left Sundowns ahead of the 2020/21 season, having spent eight years of his career at the club. Although the final few years were trophy-laden, he had to recover from a rather turbulent start. In the infant stages of his time at Masandawana, he even had to be escorted by police away from the field. This was due to a frustrate bunch of fans venting about the results of the team on the field. In the end, he would be responsible for building one of the most dominant, well oiled machines in South African football history.  Mosimane and Sundowns in legal spat It was then a huge shock to the South African football fraternity when it was announced that Mosimane was leaving. He went on to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he had local, continental and international success. But he was doing so under a cloud left by the manner of his departure  from Sundowns.  When Mosimane left Sundowns, the club ordered his camp to pay R8 million. This is what Motsepe’s camp believed was the amount that would cover the remaining 44 months remaining on his newly signed long-term deal. Now according to Sunday World the Mosimane camp has summoned Sundowns coaches Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi to court!  Mokwena and Mngqithi now dragged in? Mokwena and Mngqithi both served as Mosimane’s assistants at Sundowns before he left for Al Ahly. According to the publication, the duo have been subpoenaed to court, as well as their respective agents. This will be to provide details of their respective contracts, which have an influence on proceedings. It is reported that, should they fail to appear in court, both could face jail time or a fine.  Mokwena and Mngqithi have just led Sundowns to a seventh league title in a row. This is surely not the type of distraction they need going into the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates.

Manchester United could swoop for soon-to-be free agent Juan Miranda to sort out left-back woes Man United News And Transfer News
1 Left-back has been a constant problem position for Manchester United with manager Erik ten Hag starting a specialist in that position less than 40 percent of the time this season. Tyrell Malacia has ended up missing the full season while Luke Shaw has been sidelined for 36 games. Even loan signing Sergio Reguilon started only seven games before his short-term deal was terminated. Centre-back Victor Lindelof and defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat have had to deputise in that position, and safe to say, that ploy backfired as expected. For the last couple of months, the Dutch manager has alternated between right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that position. LB has been a problem position for United It is clear that the Englishman cannot be trusted to remain fit for one full season while the club is contemplating moving the Dutch full-back on. A new left-back has become somewhat of a priority at this stage. But with funds tight and multiple areas in need or urgent reinforcements, the Red Devils might not have too much money to work with to fix this gaping hole. HITC Football have thrown an intriguing name into the mix, Juan Miranda of Real Betis, and his deal at the club ends this June, which makes him an even more interesting proposition. “HITC has previously revealed that Nice’s Marvin Bard has been watched, whilst we understand that Bradley Locko, Rayat Ait-Nouri and Juan Miranda have also been checked on in recent months.” United eyeing free agent Miranda The former Barcelona star has played more than a century of games for the club during his four-year stay and helped them win the Copa del Rey in the 21/22 season, their first top-flight trophy in 16 years. This season, the Spaniard played 31 games across all competitions, registering two goals and as many assists and his former club still retain an interest while AC Milan were also close to a deal earlier this season. In England, both Crystal Palace and West Ham have also been linked with a move and a Bosman deal for the Spanish international would not be the worst of moves, considering his exploits. A former La Masia product, the full-back had once earned praise from the legendary Lionel Messi, and coupled with his age and potential, Miranda’s future is one to keep a close eye on. Man United among Premier League clubs considering move for outstanding Roma ace Paulo Dybala Man United News And Transfer News
Man United among Premier League clubs considering move for outstanding Roma ace Paulo Dybala Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United are reportedly one of three top Premier League clubs weighing up a move for AS Roma attacker Paulo Dybala. Since their unsuccessful attempt to secure his signature in 2019, Dybala has always been the one that got away for United. At the time, club boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen on adding the Argentine to his ranks but needless to say, a transfer never got over the line. The versatile forward rebuffed United’s overtures as well as those from other English outfits in favour of staying put in Serie A. In Italy, Dybala enjoyed a very successful seven-year spell with Juventus that saw him win five Scudetto titles, four Coppa Italias and three Supercoppa Italianas. He left Turin in the summer of 2022 for a new adventure at Roma, where he has been equally impactful. In 76 appearances so far for the Giallorossi, Dybala has managed 36 goals and 18 assists. This season alone, he has 16 goals and 10 assists across all competitions to his name. Five years after United’s initial attempt to acquire him, it appears the 30-year-old is back on the club’s radar if a recent report is to be believed. It’s understood that alongside the Red Devils, Chelsea and Arsenal are the other English teams vying for the “outstanding” Dybala. The player has a cut-price release clause worth just €12million (£10m), a no-brainer sum for a player of his stature, experience and attributes. All three Premier League clubs are monitoring Dybala’s situation with a view to potentially swooping in for him. While Dybala would undoubtedly be a solid signing for United considering his output and quality, Ten Hag’s side are very unlikely to go for him. It has been repeatedly mentioned that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are eager to build the new-look United around a core of young players with the potential to become world-class. Dybala – despite all the trappings he comes with – hardly fits this profile at the moment. United’s interest in him should be taken with a pinch of salt until slightly more reliable journalists or sources confirm it. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Valencia slash asking price for midfield sensation Javi Guerra as Man United and Arsenal circle Man United News And Transfer News
Valencia slash asking price for midfield sensation Javi Guerra as Man United and Arsenal circle Man United News And Transfer News
1 Valencia are reportedly set to ask for significantly less than the €100m release clause contained in Javi Guerra’s contract amidst interest in him from Manchester United and Arsenal. Following United’s dismal campaign that saw the club finish in eighth position in the Premier League, the midfield is an area of the pitch the owners urgently need to address. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have both exhibited signs of decline and are nearing the twilight of their careers. Additionally, they are rumoured to be leaving Old Trafford as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s sweeping team overhaul. If they do indeed leave, they will need to be replaced. United would also need to secure the services of an ideal partner for young Kobbie Mainoo and this is where Guerra’s name comes up. In January, a report covered by The Peoples Person suggested that United made contact with Valencia to explore a potential deal for the 21-year-old. A deal never got over the line but United’s links to the player have remained ongoing. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is thought to be an avid admirer of Guerra and would be open to adding him to his ranks at the Emirates. It’s easy to see why the midfielder is wanted by two of England’s biggest clubs. He is versatile and can be deployed both as a deep-lying playmaker and even in the box-to-box midfielder role. The Spaniard is technically gifted and possesses great intelligence, which ensures he makes the right decisions on the pitch almost always. Guerra has scored four goals and registered one assist in 35 La Liga appearances. A fresh report has revealed that United and Arsenal “have been put on high alert” after Valencia’s asking price for their gem dropped significantly – way less than his €100m release clause. He could now be obtained for a figure “well below” €30m. It’s important to note that his terms at The Mestalla expire in 2027. At such a price, Guerra would be a no-brainer for United, whose activities in the market will be severely limited by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). It’s rare that such player quality is available for such a modest sum. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Manchester United among Europes elites chasing RB Salzburgs Oumar Solet Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United conceded the joint second-most goals enroute to an embarrassing Champions League group stage exit while conceding 84 goals in total throughout the campaign, most they have let in since 1971. The club finished eighth in the Premier League, their lowest-ever, and new co-owners INEOS are looking at a major revamp with quite a few players expected to be moved on. Raphael Varane has already announced his departure while the club currently have no plans of offering Jonny Evans, who contract also ends in June, an extension. Both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have also been linked with exits and if multiple departures occur, the club could look to bring in more than one central defender. CB search on As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, the plan is to bring in someone who can hit the ground running and the other, who can develop into a future gem. 90min have reported that the 20-time English league champions are among a whole host of teams keeping an eye on RB Salzburg defender Oumar Solet. The 24-year-old has impressed during his four-year stay in Austria, playing more than 100 games for the club and winning three league titles along the way. This season, Solet made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice while registering one assist, and he also helped keep 11 clean sheets. The France U20 international’s contract there ends in 2025 and there is a strong possibility that he leaves this summer as RB Salzburg look to earn a decent profit. “Manchester United and Bayern Munich are both interested in Red Bull Salzburg centre-back Oumar Solet, 90min understands. “As he approaches the final 12 months of his contract with the Austrian side, is attracting interest from teams across the Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.” Solet in demand Among English teams, apart from the Red Devils, the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham and Brighton earn a mention with the bulk of the interest coming from Germany. League champions Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund join the Bavarians in the race while Italian bigwigs like Napoli, Roma are all eyeing the 6ft3 defender. In fact, Napoli had tried to sign the “superb” defender in January but failed. While no price is mentioned in the article, his current market value stands at €10 million according to Transfermarkt but considering the number of suitors, Salzburg are expected to earn a lot more, especially if a bidding war ensues. The player seems to be yearning for a move to the English top-flight and it remains to be seen whether INEOS actually pursue Solet. He could make a for a low-cost backup option but other teams might have grander designs for him. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Alejandro Garnacho may look for new Manchester United contract after Copa America Man United News And Transfer News
1 Rasmus Hojlund’s return to goal-scoring form ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City has emerged as one of the few silver linings in what has been a disappointing end to the Premier League season for Manchester United, who could only muster an eighth-place finish. After a slow start in the Premier League, the Dane found his goal-scoring boots, ending the campaign with 10 goals under his belt. He also assisted twice. The 21-year-old striker can be proud of his maiden season in the most challenging league in Europe. Fortunately for Man United, he is not the only young forward to impress fans and pundits alike with his confident play in the final third. Alejandro Garnacho established himself as Erik ten Hag’s most reliable attacking threat this season, managing more appearances (49) than any other outfield United player across all competitions. The Argentine star produced plenty of eye-catching moments, including *that* strike against Everton. The former Atletico Madrid talent ended the 2023/24 term with nine goals and five assists to his name in all competitions. It appears his entourage clearly recognise his importance to Ten Hag’s squad and want the same to be reflected on his paycheque. According to The Daily Mail, Garnacho “may well look for a new contract” if he also becomes a regular for Argentina in this summer’s Copa America. The 19-year-old academy product only penned a new long-term contract in April of last year, but his representatives may ask for improved terms on the back of a promising summer spell with Argentina. While United’s young attackers, including Amad Diallo, ended the league campaign on a positive note, the side’s most experienced forward, Marcus Rashford, continues to struggle, on and off the pitch. On Tuesday, the 26-year-old superstar was dealt a blow by Gareth Southgate who excluded him from his England provisional squad for Euro 2024. However, as far as Ten Hag is concerned, Rashford remains a key part of his plans and despite plenty of rumours, the Englishman is expected to remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer. Leny Yoro: Paris Saint-Germain reach agreement in principle with Lille for Man United defensive target Man United News And Transfer News
1 Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are understood to have reached an agreement in principle with Lille for the transfer of reported Manchester United defensive target Leny Yoro. Yoro is a name believed to be on United’s wishlist of defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer window. He’s one of the names being looked at alongside other players such as Jarrad Branthwaite, Ronald Araujo, Marc Guehi, Jean-Clair Todibo, Edmond Tapsoba, Antonio Silva, Goncalo Inacio and Max Kilman, just to mention a few names. United’s need for centre-backs was made even more urgent following Raphael Varane’s confirmation that he’s set to leave Old Trafford in the coming days. This is where Yoro comes in, with the 18-year-old drawing comparisons to Varane and even Arsenal’s William Saliba. United are not the only club pursuing Yoro. Real Madrid and PSG have also been mentioned as parties interested in securing his services. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the defender’s preference would be to join Los Blancos. It was stated that he has a “clear desire” to line up for the Spanish giants and become the latest addition to their super team which consists of some of the world’s best and most talented youngsters like Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo. However, if a fresh report by Sports Zone is to be believed, both Madrid and United are set to miss out on Yoro, with PSG now in pole position to land him. The outlet states that PSG have a verbal agreement with Lille for their highly-rated defensive prospect. “Agreement in principle between PSG and LOSC for Leny Yoro for a little over 50 million euros.” “Olivier Létang (Lille president) was excluded from the debates, LOSC needs funds.” “The player still gives his preference to Madrid, who have been very convincing since January.” FLASH ZONE Accord de principe entre le PSG et le LOSC pour Leny Yoro pour un peu plus de 50M€ ! There was a HUGE drama after the final whistle of Tuesday’s league game between TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns at Mbombela Stadium. Sundowns were the visitors at TS Galaxy as both sides played to an exciting 1-1 draw in an electrifying atmosphere. Puso Dithejane opened the scoring for the home side in the second half but Peter Shalulile equalised for Sundowns with four minutes to go. After the game, Sundowns Condition Coach Sibusiso Mahlangu was caught on camera attacking TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic and insulting him. One TS Galaxy official, on the other hand, approached Rulani Mokwena of Sundowns in an effort to convince him to make peace with Ramovic. However, Mokwena wasn’t interested at all as he moved away from the commotion and went to his Sundowns players on the pitch. WATCH: RULANI’S BACKROOM STAFF MEMBER ATTACKS RAMOVIC POLICE INTERVENE TO SEPARATE TS GALAXY AND SUNDOWNS PLAYERS – VIDEO The drama never ended there as Police had to intervene to separate both TS Galaxy and Sundowns squads from turning this feud into boxing. Bruno Fernandes Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot nominated for Premier League Fans Team of the Season Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United trio of Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot has been nominated for the Premier League Fans’ Team of the Season. This nomination comes despite United’s extremely poor season that saw the club finish in eighth place in the Premier League – their worst since the 1989/90 First Division campaign. As a result of their finish, United have not qualified for Europe. However, they have a chance of creeping into the Europa League by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final this weekend. United have confirmed that Fernandes, Onana and Dalot are in contention for a place in the Premier League Fans’ Team of the Season. The three are part of a 60-man shortlist which will be reduced down to 11 players by supporters through a public vote. In the just-concluded season, Fernandes managed 35 starts for United – the same as Dalot and the most across the entire club. In that period, the Red Devils skipper managed an impressive 10 goals and eight assists. He led the team in both goals and assists and was only matched in the former by Rasmus Hojlund. Seven of Fernandes’ goal contributions came during April, in which the Portuguese enjoyed a rich vein of form that culminated in him being a candidate for the league’s Player of the Month prize. Fernandes is competing against the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), Pascal Gross (Brighton), Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle), Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool), John McGinn (Aston Villa), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Rodri (Man City) for a midfield slot in the Fans’ Team of the Season. Dalot is arguably United’s Player of the Season. The defender has been one of the 20-time English champions’ most consistent performers during a troublesome season. He was the only defender on the club’s books not to have missed a match due to injury. The full-back was a blessing for Ten Hag as he was regularly deployed not only on the right but also on the left in the absence of any natural, senior left-backs available to the manager for selection. Dalot finished the season with two goals and three assists, with his most recent strike coming on the final day at the Amex against Brighton and Hove Albion. Fellow full-back nominees alongside Dalot are Rayan Ait-Nouri (Wolves), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Alfie Doughty (Luton), Pedro Porro (Tottenham), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Destiny Udogie (Tottenham), Kyle Walker (Man City), Ben White (Arsenal). Meanwhile, Onana overcame a very difficult start to life at United and in the second part of the season, became one of the Reds’ most important players. The Cameroonian played every minute of his maiden Premier League campaign at United. He picked up nine clean sheets along the way. Onana made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the division and won April’s Save of the Month award after keeping out what seemed like a goal-bound header from Burnley star Lyle Foster. Other goalkeepers who are in the running to be in the Fans’ Team of the Season are Alisson (Liverpool), Ederson (Man City), Thomas Kaminski (Luton), Bernd Leno (Fulham), Emi Martinez (Aston Villa), Neto (Bournemouth), Jordan Pickford (Everton), David Raya (Arsenal), Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham). United fans can vote for Fernandes, Dalot and Onana here The vote ends on Monday 27 May. The final XI will then be announced the next day. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Ramovic Maybe Sundowns must buy Mbappe Ronaldo and Messi
‘Maybe they must buy Mbappe, Ronaldo and Messi, if not they must take this highest education,’ Ramovic told SuperSport TV. TS Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic felt his team had totally ‘outclassed’ Mamelodi Sundowns, as the Rockets came close to ending Masandawana’s unbeaten DStv Premiership record in a 1-1 draw at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday. Ramovic wasted little time at having another stab at Sundowns’ wealth, after watching his side come within five minutes plus stoppage time of beating Rulani Mokwena’s side. Puso Dithejane put Galaxy in front in the 78th minute, but a Peter Shalulile header in the 85th minute got a point for Sundowns, who are now just one game away from an ‘invincible’ season. “We can see again, that you don’t only win with million dollar players,” Ramovic told SuperSport TV. “You can also sometimes win with a million dollar attitude. We don’t have financial power like them, to spend over R200 million and to be outclassed and dominated the whole game, it is unbelievable, and a credit to my players. “If they want to beat us again, maybe they must buy Mbappe, Ronaldo and Messi, if not they must take this highest education.” Chaos A fiery DStv Premiership draw ended in some chaos, as Ramovic and Mokwena refused to acknowledge each other as the final whistle blew. Ramovic then became involved in a nasty argument with Sundowns physical trainer Sibusiso Mahlangu, while Mokwena was so incensed he had to be pulled away from any confrontation by Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams. Mokwena and Ramovic have been at each other’s throats, metaphorically speaking, all season, and on Tuesday morning, Galaxy had gone to the Johannesburg High Court to file a case against Mokwena, who they accuse of making defamatory remarks after Sundowns’ 3-0 defeat of TS Galaxy on April 29. Galaxy were left fuming by Mokwena’s comments after he suggested suggested Galaxy’s Orebotse Mongae had deliberately injured Sundowns’ Bongani Zungu, in an incident that saw Mongae sent off. In October, Zungu was sent off during the Carling Black Label Knockout last 16 match between Galaxy and Sundowns, after a horrendous tackle that left Galaxy’s Bernard Parker with a broken leg. This is just one of several unsavoury spats between Ramovic and Mokwena during the course of the season. Both looked highly motivated to get a result during this match, with the celebrations from both sets of coaching staff when their side’s scored even more enthusiastic than usual.

Manchester United look to seal signing of Camron Mpofu for their academy next season Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester United look to seal signing of Camron Mpofu for their academy next season Man United News And Transfer News
1 The senior team might have flattered to deceive heavily this season but ironically, they were the only Manchester United who didn’t impress. The Women’s team won the FA Cup which overshadowed an under-par league campaign while the youngsters completed a historic treble. Even for the senior team, the shining lights were the players promoted from the academy, be it the previous season or this one. Therefore, the United academy has been the only cause for celebration at the club amidst a period of turbulence and bad results. United’s commitment to strengthening their academy program has started paying dividends and if recent reports are to be believed, they don’t aim to stop. The Daily Mail reports that United are aiming to recruit Scotland U15 international Camron Mpofu in time for their next academy season. The forward, currently at Reading, is highly rated in the youth circles and has been tracked by a number of clubs for his exploits in youth football. Mpofu’s family are relocating to the North-West to help the youngster with the move and United believe they have a “future star” on their hands. The club has had a long history of illustrious Scottish talents who have graced the Old Trafford pitch and Denis Law stands at the top of it. With Mpofu’s nationality and position, he already has an idol to look up to! United have been doing a great job of adding to the academy ranks in the past few years outside of promoting from within. The likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Willy Kambwala were recruited from foreign clubs and while Brexit has made those moves impossible now, they continue to get young players from England. The promise of a genuine path to the first team is undoubtedly a huge selling factor for these youngsters, while the United brand is stronger than ever despite on-field failures. Mokwena to be sacked for boring football?
Mamelodi Sundowns will reportedly be reviewing the position of head coach Rhulani Mokwena. This comes despite the unprecedented success the club have enjoyed under his guidance. According to a report from Soccer Laduma, there is some concern about the style of football employed by Mokwena’s team. “Well-placed Siya sources have informed the crew that Mokwena’s future has come under the spotlight and that the club’s management are set to deeply assess the situation at the end of the 2023/24 season,” a Soccer Laduma report reads. “This publication understands that among the concerns from management is the style of play that Sundowns have adopted, which has left a faction of the club’s board unsatisfied as well as the 37-year-old’s recent spats in the media – of which there have been many in recent times.” Mokwena has made headlines recently when he suggested that one of his players was targeted in a match against TS Galaxy. Galaxy have since taken legal steps against Mokwena and Sundowns after failing to receive an apology or retraction from the parties involved. “In the circumstances, we are instructed to demand, as we hereby do, that Mr Mokwena and, by extension, Sundowns immediately retract the impugning statements, and publish an unconditional, prominent and appropriate public apology [in the terms agreed to by the club] in both videographic and written forms, which should be prominently published on all prominent football social and other media platforms [including that of Sundowns], be it print and/or electronic.”  Bafana Bafana coach upset with Mokwena as well Mokwena has also gone up against SAFA and Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos but recently said he had no interest in meeting with the national team coach. “I’m not in talks with SAFA. I don’t have a relationship with the coach of SAFA, so I focus on what I can,” said Mokwena according to Hollywood Bets Blog. “I don’t want to fight nobody because once I start talking about those things, it is as though I am fighting. “I’d rather stay out of that space and manage what I can manage, which is my players, and try my level best to make sure that they are fit, strong and that they are enjoying their football and improving,” Mokwena added.

Shalulile saves Sundowns in thrilling Galaxy draw
Shalulile saves Sundowns in thrilling Galaxy draw
The Namibian striker grabs the equaliser with five minutes left at Mbombela Stadium. Peter Shalulile came to the rescue of Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, his late goal saving their unbeaten record in a 1-1 DStv Premiership draw with TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium. Galaxy had started the day by taking Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena to the Johannesburg High Court, part of a long running spat between the Masandawana mentor and TS Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic. And they finished it by coming close to inflicting Sundowns’ first league defeat of the campaign, Puso Dithejane’s 78th minute strike sending Ramovic leaping into the crowd. But Shalulile had the final say, as the Namibian has had so many times in a glittering career. Sundowns are now just one game away, at home to Cape Town City on Saturday, from becoming the first ever South African top flight to finish a top flight season without defeat. This game had a frenetic energy from the start, as if driven by the dislike Mokwena and Ramovic clearly have for each other. It was the home side who threatened more in the early stages with some lovely interplay causing Sundowns all sorts of problems down their left side. Kamogelo Sebelebele, Mpho Mvelase and Puso Dithejane caused an overlad on the right wing, with Masandawana left back Aubrey Modiba constantly finding himself isolated. In the 2nd minute, Mpho Mvelase fould Bradley Mojela, and his cross was gathered by the excellent Ronwen Williams. Lesiba Nku did have a chance that he put well over the bar for Sundowns, before Dithejane and Marcos Allende were both booked after a nasty squabble, as tempers threatened to boil over. Galaxy threatened again in the 23rd minute as Dhitjeane’s well-placed pass found Sphiwe Mahlangu racing in on goal, but Williams closed down the angle and blocked the shot. A minute later, the home side did have the ball in the back of the net but Mvelase was correctly ruled offside after Williams had saved Dhitejane’s initial shot. Dhitejane was a constant menace to Sundowns, but could also consider himself slightly fortunate not to receive a second yellow card after hauling down Sphelele Mkhulise. Penalty shout Sundowns finally had a shot on target when Fiacre Ntwari saved from Rivaldo Coetzee, while Mokwena was left screaming for a penalty when Tashreeq Matthews went down in the box under Mvelase’s challenge, but replays proved inconclusive. Mokwena brought on Lebo Maboe and Mothobi Mvala at the break, a sign that he wasn’t entirely happy with what he was seeing. Matthews almost immediately had a chance for Sundowns but he shot over from inside the penalty area. But Galaxy continued to more than match their opponents and Sebelebele’s cross was steered over the bar, via a deflection, by Mvelase. Sundowns were jittery, evident in the fact that Mvala and Williams both gave the ball away in quick succession, with Galaxy failing to capitalise. And Galaxy did find the net in the 78th minute, Dhitejane firing home brillianly from the edge of the box to put the Rockets into orbit. Ntwari had to produce a good stop to deny Lebo Maboe just a minute later, as Sundowns scrambled to avoid losing their unbeaten record. And they did exactly that in the 85th minute, Shalulile rising to head Siyabonga Mabena’s cross past Ntwari.

Youssouf Fofana: AS Monaco director admits theyre open to selling Man United midfield target Man United News And Transfer News
1 AS Monaco director Thiago Scuro has said that the Ligue 1 giants are prepared to sell midfielder Youssouf Fofana who is reportedly on Manchester United’s transfer wishlist. The midfield is an area of the pitch United Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are keen on bolstering, especially if Casemiro and Christian Eriksen leave the club. In that event, the club will need to secure an ideal partner for young Kobbie Mainoo. A report covered by The Peoples Person back in March relayed that Erik ten Hag personally instructed United to complete the signing of Fofana. It was stated at the time that €30m could get a deal for the player over the line. A subsequent report relayed that United would need to ward off competition from AC Milan to land Fofana. It’s easy to see why the Red Devils would be eager to add the 25-year-old to their ranks. He managed an impressive four goals and as many assists in 32 top-flight games. In the just-concluded Ligue 1 campaign, Fofana ranked in the 82nd percentile for successful passes and is in the 81st percentile for dribbles completed. He’s a good passer and an excellent carrier of the ball – attributes that United desperately need in the middle of the park. He’s also defensively sound. The France international won an average of 5.12 ground duels per 90. He also put in 2.04 tackles and registered 1.20 interceptions per 90. Fofana’s exploits earned him a call-up to Didier Deschamps France squad ahead of Euro 2024. If United are indeed keen on landing him, the words of AS Monaco director Thiago Scuro will come as extremely welcome news. Scuro said (via Fabrizio Romano), “He is probably one of the players that we are open to selling this summer.” “We will see the opportunities that he has, same for Guillermo Maripán.” AS Monaco director Thiago Scuro on Youssuf Fofana: “He is probably one of the players that we are open to selling this summer”. “We will see the opportunities that he has, same for Guillermo Maripán”. pic.twitter.com/OGHSLPjnou — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 21, 2024 Another factor to consider is that INEOS may know Fofana well from their involvement in French football with OGC Nice. Manchester Uniteds reported summer transfer budget doesnt match up to expectations Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester Uniteds reported summer transfer budget doesnt match up to expectations Man United News And Transfer News
1 The grand INEOS plans of shaking up the Manchester United squad in the transfer window with a huge overhaul might have been too reckless. The Daily Mail has reported United’s starting transfer budget for the summer is expected to be only £35 million. The report states that INEOS will instead look to supplement this budget by selling off high-earning underachievers. Player swaps will also be on the menu as they try to play Moneyball in their first season at Old Trafford instead of firing bank notes at clubs for their players. While the INEOS era so far has been marked by frugality, it is still surprising to see a figure that small, especially in the current market. With £35 million, not even a backup striker can be bought in the current market, let alone one with the potential/ability to help Rasmus Hojlund right now. As for their plans to add to that budget by selling players, that looks like a dream scenario more than reality considering the players they’ll put up for sale. The likes of Casemiro and Antony aren’t fetching transformative fees by any extent of imagination and even revelations like Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood have asterisks next to their name. Greenwood’s case has been well-publicised while Sancho’s astronomical wages will prove to be a stumbling block. As for player swaps, there’s a reason that those kind of moves don’t happen often which is because it’s rare for two clubs to have complementary needs and rarer still for the two players involved to have similar values. Ultimately, fans would hope this is just a negotiating stance by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. to pivot United’s reputation from aimless spenders to frugal operators. Otherwise, if this budget is the reality, then the much-awaited “new era” might begin with a whimper instead. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Pochettino leaves Chelsea after just one season in charge
Pochettino leaves Chelsea after just one season in charge
‘Chelsea FC can confirm that the club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways,’ Chelsea said in a statement. Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea after just one season in charge by mutual consent, the English club announced on Tuesday. The Blues finished sixth in the Premier League thanks to a fine run towards the end of the season but missed out on Champions League qualification and a trophy. “Chelsea FC can confirm that the club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways,” Chelsea said in a statement. In just two years under the ownership of an American consortium fronted by LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly and private equity group Clearlake Capital, Chelsea have spent over £1 billion ($1.3 billion) on new players. The vast majority of that outplay was spent on rising stars and Pochettino pointed to a lack of experience and a lengthy injury list for failing to achieve consistent results. Chelsea lost the League Cup final 1-0 to Liverpool after extra-time and pushed Manchester City all the way before losing in the FA Cup semi-finals by the same score. But there had been signs that Pochettino’s project was coming together in a run of five consecutive wins to end the season that ensured Chelsea will be in Europe next season. European qualification not enough They will qualify for the Europa League if Manchester United lose to City in the FA Cup final and the Conference League if the Red Devils shock the English champions. “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history,” said Pochettino. “The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.” Chelsea sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. “He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Kaizer Chiefs at risk of fumbling THREE Bafana Bafana targets?
Kaizer Chiefs at risk of fumbling THREE Bafana Bafana targets?
Kaizer Chiefs face stiff competition for several transfer targets with Sundowns and Orlando Pirates keen to add Bafana talent to their ranks. Orlando Pirates could upset Amakhosi’s plans Amakhosi reportedly have their sights set on several players to bolster the ranks at Naturena this winter. Elias Mokwana, Luther Singh and Tshpang Moremi have all had different journies and trajectories for the national team. Singh, the 26-year-old wide attacker born in Soweto, hasn’t represented his nation in just under three years. He’s played 13 times for South Africa, the last of those caps came in World Cup qualifying in late 2021 against Zimbabwe. “We received offers from Egypt, Morocco, Scotland, Sweden, and Major League Soccer. One Soweto club also enquired. The reason we haven’t made the decision is that the offers are not favourable for the player (Singh), we still want to wait a bit. He still wants to play abroad, but if the right deal locally comes, he will take it. The aim is to get back to the national team.” said agent Warren Swartz via iDiski Times. Bafana winger Luther Singh is in limbo. Photo: Getty Images Sundowns want to sign the best ahead of Kaizer Chiefs According to SoccerLaduma, Sundowns are preparing a blockbuster move for long-term Chiefs and Pirates target Eilas Mokwana. The Sekhukhune winger has been a revelation for Babina Noko this season, earning a full Bafana Bafana call-up. Downs are now at the head of the queue for a man valued at R35 Million by Lehlohonolo Seema’s team. According to The Citizen, Mokwana has always admired Chiefs but has admitted to having a soft spot for Sowetor rivals Pirates. Will that be a problem for Sundowns? Elias Mokwana of South Africa during the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers 2026 match between South Africa and Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban. Image: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix What about Tshepang Moremi? 23-year-old AmaZulu winger Moremi isn’t the most prolific player. He’s got only two goals this season, but he has been a near ever-present for Usuthu, making 28 appearances in the league. That level of durability is an important commodity. His goal-shyness doesn’t mean he’s not a gifted player though. His overall performances this term have alerted Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos, who named him in a 36-man preliminary squad. According to the AmaZulu website, Moremi has had loan spells at Bizana Pondo Chiefs and JDR Stars in the National First Division to gain experience. “As of now we can say that Tshepang (Moremi) is the most wanted player at the club. Mamelodi Sundowns have already made an official offer though it seems they will have it tough from rivals Orlando Pirates and now Kaizer Chiefs have also made inquiries about him,” the report read on SoccerLaduma. It wouldn’t be a massive shock if the player accepted an offer from Sundowns. Sundowns fans basking in glory. Sundowns legend sends big warning to Khune
Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana left professional football earlier than expected. It sounds like he is advising Itumeleng Khune to do the same. KAIZER CHIEFS STAR ITUMELENG KHUNE NOT KEEN TO RETIRE The 36-year-old Khune was honoured for 25 years of service as a Kaizer Chiefs player last Saturday. The Ventersdorp-born legend later told the media that is not retiring. “This journey is still long,” he told SuperSport TV’s Lerato Phago, as quoted by iDiski Times. “We’re still going to see each other, we’re still going to travel together, as much as we have been traveling it and I appreciate everything that everyone has done for me. “It’s not a farewell. The club made it clear that they are honouring me for 25 years of service. They didn’t say ‘we’re bidding farewell to Itumeleng Khune’. “I think we will go back, sit down and discuss the future. But for now, nothing has been confirmed yet. “My legs can still carry me for the next couple of years, so I will continue giving my all whenever given the opportunity to don the black and gold jersey of Kaizer Chiefs,” Khune concluded. Meanwhile, the Sundowns legend Kekana has sent a warning to Khune. KEKANA WARNS KHUNE “I wish he could understand and face the reality that he will never play forever,” Kekana said on SABC’s Soccer Zone, as per FARPost.  “At this stage that he finds himself in, one would say leave the game before you start hating the game. “The reality says the system doesn’t want you anymore. So when the system doesn’t want you anymore, make sure that you move. You don’t want to watch football one day and hate it. “He played for Bafana; he captained the Kaizer Chiefs team, which won the league. I mean, he has done so much. What point does he want to prove, and to whom?” the former Sundowns captain concluded. Is Kekana right and should Itumeleng Khune take Kekana’s advice? Let us know inthe comments section below.

Former Bafana Bafana and Sundowns star Kermit Erasmus has decided that his time at Orlando Pirates is up. Where will the veteran move next? Mother City calling for Romeo? According to Soccer-Laduma, Kermit Erasmus is being watched by his former club Cape Town City. The 33-year-old former Rennes and Feyenoord striker hinted at a move when he announced he signed for a new management agency. He has made just six league appearances all season. World Soccer Magazine named Erasmus one of the 50 most talented young players in world football in a piece titled “The 50 most exciting teenagers on the planet” in 2007. That list included Karim Benzema, Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria, Gareth Bale and Alexandre Pato. Kermit has represented 11 clubs across five countries throughout his career. It’s been quite a ride. “The Siya crew understands that City is a possible destination for the 33-year-old, having previously made an impact at the club before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020. Erasmus enjoyed his football while he was at City, finding the back of the net regularly during his time at the club. The club had previously signed players who made an impact while they were in their 30s. Both Teko Modise and Mpho Makola made a good contribution at the club in the latter years of their careers,” they said.  Kermit Erasmus of Orlando Pirates celebrates victory with fans during the DStv Premiership 2022/23 football match between Swallows FC and Orlando Pirates at Dobsonville Stadium, Johannesburg on 03 March 2023 ©Gavin Barker/BackpagePix. Benjamin Seskos agent confirms interest in striker from top English clubs amid Man United links Man United News And Transfer News
Benjamin Seskos agent confirms interest in striker from top English clubs amid Man United links Man United News And Transfer News
1 Elvis Bašanović, the agent of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, has confirmed that his client is indeed attracting heavy interest from some top clubs in England, even as the player continues to be strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. United are believed to be keen on signing another number nine to help share the goalscoring burden with young Rasmus Hojlund. Hojlund has done well in his maiden campaign in the Premier League but it remains abundantly clear the Red Devils still need more up front. One of the talismans United are believed to want is Sesko. The club’s interest in the RB Leipzig star can be traced as far back as two years ago when he was still at RB Salzburg. At that time, Sesko decided to snub United in favour of developing at RB Leipzig and it’s a decision that has paid off. In the just-concluded Bundesliga season, the 20-year-old notched 14 goals and two assists in 31 appearances. He managed 18 goals in total across all competitions. Sesko’s agent was spotted at Old Trafford during United’s game against Arsenal earlier this month, further fuelling speculation that Erik ten Hag’s side will go back in for him once the transfer window opens. It’s not only United that have been linked to him. Chelsea and Arsenal have also been mentioned as admirers of his. Basanovic spoke to Slovenian publication Sportklub (via Bulinews) and admitted that his client could leave amidst the multiple overtures directed at him, but ultimately the decision rests with the striker and what he wants to do going forward. “I can say that there is interest in Benjamin, both from the Premier League and from Italy. But out of respect, I can’t talk about the names of the clubs.” “We are talking about top clubs. But you have to realize that Benjamin is at a top club right now. Very few people realise how big a club Leipzig is. The next few weeks will certainly be eventful.” “It is my duty to listen to offers. We have to work on giving Benjamin more opportunities at the end of the season. But it’s his decision. We will propose what is best for his long-term development.” Basanovic added, “Leipzig are trying very hard to keep Benjamin. They have their arguments on the development side, they are also a big club with excellent conditions.” “They have a strong hand. A healthy sporting development takes precedence over the economic side.” Sesko would be an impeccable addition to the ranks at United. He’s fast, strong and his finish is outstanding. Combine this with his high potential and he has all the attributes to be a smashing success alongside Hojlund. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea by mutual consent as managerial dominos fall quickly Man United News And Transfer News
1 Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United might be decided after the FA Cup final but dominos around him are falling. Just days after Roberto de Zerbi announced his departure from Brighton and Hove Albion in unexpected circumstances, another shocker has superseded it. The Telegraph reports that Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea by mutual consent with immediate effect. The Argentinian met the club hierarchy and after the end-of-season review, the decision was taken to part ways. Chelsea’s decision is set to have huge consequences for United, with not only a potential replacement for Ten Hag appearing out of nowhere, but Chelsea’s potential list of targets co-incide with United’s. TS Galaxy and Ramovic take Rulani Mokwena to High Court!
TS Galaxy and Ramovic take Rulani Mokwena to High Court!
TS Galaxy and coach Sead Ramovic have taken Mamelodi Sundowns mentor to the Johannesburg High Court over the comments he made in April. According to SABC Sport, both TS Galaxy and Ramovic had asked Mokwena to retract his comments over the injury of Bongani Zungu. At time, Zungu limped off the pitch and Mokwena wasn’t pleased at all to an extent that he said the Sundowns technical team had been made aware of TS Galaxy’s plan to injury Zungu. According to Mokwena, TS Galaxy players wanted revenge on Zungu for breaking Bernard Parker’s leg in the Carling Knockout Cup in October 2023. And that statement didn’t sit well with Ramovic and TS Galaxy, and they ordered Mokwena to retract it but he failed. Now, both TS Galaxy and Ramovic are claiming damages from both Mokwena and Sundowns following their failure to retract the coach’s statement. TS GALAXY AND RAMOVIC TAKE RULANI TO COURT “The impugning statements comprise untrue and defamatory statements pertaining to the Club and is indeed per se defamatory of the Club, its players, Head Coach, technical team, players, staff and management as well as its supporters,” read the document sent by Galaxy to Sundowns and Mokwena last month. “In the circumstances, we are instructed to demand, as we hereby do, that Mr. Mokwena and, by extension, Sundowns immediately retract the impugning statements, and publish an unconditional, prominent and appropriate public apology (in the terms agreed to by the Club) in both videographic and written forms, which should be prominently published on all prominent football social and other media platforms (including that of Sundowns), be it print and/or electronic.” THE ROCKETS WELCOME SUNDOWNS AT MBOMBELA Meanwhile, the Rockets will welcome TS Galaxy in the reverse fixture of the league at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday. Kick-off is at 19:30. This will be the first time both Ramovic and Mokwena meet since 29 April when the Sundowns coach made the remarks. It remains to be seen if Ramovic and Mokwena will shake hands before and after the game at Mbombela Stadium.

Ex-captain sends message to Kaizer Chiefs bosses
Every Kaizer Chiefs supporter should remember Tefu Mashamaite as a legend. He won two DStv Premiership trophies as Amakhosi captain. A MESSAGE TO THE KAIZER CHIEFS BOSSES It’s been nearly 10 years since Kaizer Chiefs won a cup, the captain who lifted the trophy to the sky was Mashamaite. Speaking to the media this week, the 39-year-old from Senwabarwana, Limpopo, has simply pleaded with Amakhosi to emulate Mamelodi Sundowns’ scouting commitment. “Modernisation. The perfect example is Sundowns,” Mashamaite told iDiski Times. “What Sundowns has done was very, very revolutionary even though at the end of the day people say they used money to buy success. This is where the football future is heading,” the former Kaizer Chiefs central defender added. “I remember when we played in the Confederations Cup I think in 2017 in Gabon. We happened to be travelling on the same flight as Flight Mohale. He was then given the responsibility to be one of the scouts. “I know the scouting network at Sundowns is very huge and people don’t realise that scouting is a career now. You need to be trained to be a scout. “And also when it comes to choosing a coach, the coach has to resonate with the culture and the philosophy of where the club is trying to go. Sundowns have done that well. “Every player that Sundowns scouts and eventually buys, they identify to say this is the player that we want. I don’t think Chiefs have really invested in that. “Football right now is an institution, you cannot just choose a coach, buy players willy-nilly like, ‘Oh this player is playing for Chippa United, he scored 20 goals this season,’ and you buy him. “Does he fit into the culture and the philosophy of [Kaizer] Chiefs? If he doesn’t then don’t buy him. So Chiefs haven’t really like invested in that,” Mashamaite concluded. Mashamaite’s career: Wits University reserves Wits University Stars of Africa Bidvest Wits Kaizer Chiefs Häcken (Sweden) SuperSport United Baberwa FC. Do you agree with Mashamaite on Amakhosi creating the same scouting setup like Sundowns? Let us know in the comments section below. FINAL MATCH OF THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP SEASON In the meantime, Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson is getting ready for his final match. The Glamour Boys will travel to the Western Cape to face Cape Town Spurs. The game will kick off at 15:00 from the DHL Stadium.

Manchester United target Ollie Watkins speaks out on his plans next year Man United News And Transfer News
1 Rasmus Hojlund finished as Manchester United’s top scorer of the season after his effort off the bench against Brighton. That’s good going for a youngster playing his first season in the Premier League and by all means, bought as one for the future. However, the goals paper over the cracks in his game which is understandable since he was never going to be the finished product from day one. Therefore, it makes sense that United help his development by signing a strike partner for him, preferably one who’s ready to go from day one while also helping the Dane improve his game. The links to Ollie Watkins, reported as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s “ideal profile” of a striker, make complete sense as he’s a Premier League-proven commodity coming off his best-ever top-flight season. However, that was always going to be a difficult deal to make, especially as Aston Villa have just qualified for the Champions League and clearly look like a club on the up. Now, Watkins himself has moved to clarify his future with the club with a pivotal summer window ahead. Mirror reports that Watkins has already been talking about his ambitions for next year with the Villans, hinting that a transfer away is the farthest thing from his mind- Watkins said: “Next year will be very special. What happened at Palace was poor – individually and collectively – but this doesn’t tell the story of our season. We’ve been great all year. “On a personal note, I’ve been consistent. There’s not much more I can do. It was the aim – to get to 20 goals – but there’s always next season.” It looks like Watkins isn’t thinking about a move and is enjoying his time at Villa, turning what was a dream transfer anyway into a non-starter. United might appreciate this clarity as it means they won’t waste time exploring a potential transfer when the doors have been shut by the player himself well ahead of the window. Liverpool FC Player Ratings: Every Red graded in 2023/24 Liverpool FC
Liverpool FC Player Ratings: Every Red graded in 2023/24 Liverpool FC
The final season of the Jurgen Klopp era saw Liverpool lift one trophy and return to the Champions League, though there was potential for more from this Reds squad. After 58 games across four different competitions, the dust has settled on what was a rollercoaster campaign that saw the word ‘quadruple’ crop up once more. A late and swift decline, though, quickly closed that particular door. The season was not without its high moments for both the team and the players as individuals. And with the campaign now over, we’ve rated each Reds player for their performance across the 2023/24 season. (Note: only players with 10 appearances, in the Premier League, are included)   Alisson – 8 Appearances: 32 Minutes played: 2,880 Another utterly magnificent season on a personal level for the Brazilian, though he loses a couple of points as a result of the injury that kept him sidelined between February and April.   Caoimhin Kelleher – 8 Appearances: 26 Minutes played: 2,400 That Liverpool did not miss a beat during Alisson‘s absence was down to his understudy performing equally brilliantly. Will surely be keen to depart in search of more regular football, though.   Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7 Appearances: 37 Minutes played: 2,616 His move to an inverted role late last season was the catalyst for the improvement Liverpool took into this campaign, but question marks over his defending remain. If Arne Slot can iron out those small kinks, Alexander-Arnold will be unstoppable.   Jarell Quansah – 9 Appearances: 33 Minutes played: 2,493 An utter revelation for Liverpool this season. Dominant in the air, composed on the ball; the 21-year-old has everything to be a long-term success at Anfield. That was evidenced by the fact he kept Ibrahima Konate out of the side in the final part of the campaign and was named as part of the provisional England squad for the Euros.   Virgil van Dijk – 9 Appearances: 48 Minutes played: 4,072 Looked back to his best for the majority of the season, took to the captaincy like a duck to water, and scored a last-minute winner in a cup final. Liverpool are so lucky to have him.   Joel Matip – 7 Appearances: 14 Minutes played: 1,060 Wasn’t missed as much as he might have been thanks to Quansah’s emergence, but showed how important he could have been before his season-ending ACL injury. A class act and arguably the club’s greatest ever free transfer.   Ibrahima Konate – 6 Appearances: 37 Minutes played: 2,587 Started the season strongly but massively tailed off after a brief injury lay-off. It will be interesting to see if he can wrestle a starting spot back from Quansah next season.   Andy Robertson – 6 Appearances: 30 Minutes played: 2,193 A disappointing season for the Scot, largely because of a succession of injury problems. Needs a good start under Slot to reassert his starting position.   Joe Gomez – 9 Appearances: 51 Minutes played: 3,131 Liverpool would not have won as many games this season without Gomez returning to form in such emphatic fashion. Played right-back, centre-back, left-back and even in central midfield and looked a natural in every position as he helped the Reds navigate a huge injury crisis.   Kostas Tsimikas – 6 Appearances: 25 Minutes played: 1,463 Did not really let Liverpool down as they rotated their way through the cups in the first half of the season, but barely featured in the second following his return from injury. Has a decision to make on his future this summer.   Conor Bradley – 8 Appearances: 23 Minutes played: 1,504 Like Quansah, he returned from a League One loan to firmly establish himself in the first-team squad this season. A tenacious defender also blessed with attacking quality, Bradley’s performances were so good that they even reignited the debate over Alexander-Arnold’s long-term position.   Dominik Szoboszlai – 7 Appearances: 45 Minutes played: 2,701 Earned deserved Steven Gerrard comparisons for his performances in the early part of the campaign but seemed to feel the pace of a Premier League season once the halfway mark was reached. More to come from him next time around.   Alexis Mac Allister – 8 Appearances: 46 Minutes played: 3,500 Did a brilliant job filling in as a makeshift No. 6 early in the season before emerging as Liverpool’s most influential player between February and April in a more familiar advanced role. Remarkably, it feels like Mac Allister can do even better next term, but he has already marked himself out as a bargain at £35 million.   Wataru Endo – 7 Appearances: 43 Minutes played: 2,758 Took a little time to get going but was crucial when Liverpool really hit their stride mid-season. At 31 years old, he is unlikely to ever reach the levels of a prime Fabinho or Rodri, but he still looks an astute signing as a steady hand in the middle.   Ryan Gravenberch – 7 Appearances: 38 Minutes played: 1,835 Made a slow start as he adapted to new surroundings but fans have seen plenty to be encouraged by in a promising debut campaign. Has unbelievably quick feet in tight spaces and added defensive steel to his goal threat in the latter part of the season.   Harvey Elliott – 8 Appearances: 53 Minutes played: 2,783 Made several key contributions as a ‘super sub’ early in the season before cementing himself as a nailed-on starter for Jurgen Klopp‘s final games. An immense talent who is going to be a mainstay at Liverpool for years.   Curtis Jones – 7 Appearances: 36 Minutes played: 2,031 Started the campaign brilliantly but lost a lot of momentum when he suffered an ankle injury in February. Still, he is a reliable performer who Slot is sure to lean on.   Luis Diaz – 7 Appearances: 51 Minutes played: 3,613 Quickly silenced any early-season suggestions that back-to-back knee injuries last season might have had any long-term implications. However, his unreliability in front of goal cost Liverpool on a couple of occasions.   Mohamed Salah – 8 Appearances: 44 Minutes played: 3,130 Suffered a brief dip in form at the worst possible time but he remains the Reds’ best player, as his haul of 25 goals and 14 assists attests.   Darwin Nunez – 6 Appearances: 54 Minutes played: 3,026 Finished the season as the Reds’ second-highest goalscorer (18) and with the second-most assists (13), and yet there is a feeling of frustration around him that is hard to shake off. Simply has to find a way to perform more consistently next season or it will surely be time to call an end to his time at Anfield.   Diogo Jota – 7 Appearances: 32 Minutes played: 1,710 The fact he is the club’s deadliest finisher is best underlined by the fact he is the only forward who overperformed their xG this season. But the best ability is availability, and Jota fell short on that front this term.   Cody Gakpo – 7 Appearances: 53 Minutes played: 3,016 Enjoyed a strong finish to the campaign having put a poor run behind him that Klopp ultimately took the blame for. Scored 16 and assisted six despite being used in a variety of positions – it will be interesting to see if Slot has a settled role for him.

Petersen is correct to give instructions from the bench Chiefs legend argues
Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe has come out to defend Brandon Petersen’s antics on the touchline. The 29-year-old keeper received some backlash from Amakhosi supporters when he was seen giving out instructions to Chiefs players in the presence of the club coach Cavin Johnson. The two were even seen clashing with each other after the Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates back in March. Shongwe has downplayed Petersen’ antics, saying the keeper is just helping out the struggling Chiefs. “I think that was totally misinterpreted [Petersen’s antics]. Maybe in trying to help out the team, it didn’t look nice,” Shongwe told FARPost. ”We get players like that, who will get up and get involved. In this case, it was like Brandon was taking over from the bench. Shongwe defends Chiefs keeper Brandon Petersen ”I think it’s good, but he has to control it and minimise his actions. Every team needs a player who will be supporting and pushing the team for the benefit of the team,” he added. ”He wasn’t doing that for himself, it was for the benefit of the team. But it came out badly and it didn’t look nice.” Petersen hasn’t played since Chiefs’ 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows in October 2023. The animated keeper though has been heavily involved on the bench in the second half of the season. There has been a number of times where he was seen giving instructions to his teammates during matches. The keeper did explain last month that he wasn’t trying to take over from the coach. “I think me as a person in general, on and off the field, if you ask anyone who knows me well, they will tell you I like to speak,” Chiefs keeper Brandon Petersen told iDiski Times. “When I speak I get very theatrical. I speak with my hands. Now I’m not, that’s because my hand is in my pocket. So it’s me, I always want to help, always want to encourage, that’s the main thing, no agenda, no nothing. “I think certain times just show a bit more because sometimes when you get on the field, it can be a bit nerve-wracking. Petersen animated on the touchline “Knowing that you have the full support of everyone definitely gives you that boost of confidence and makes you want to play more,” Petersen concluded. Petersen was given a straight red from the bench during Chiefs’ draw with AmaZulu earilier this month.
