Manchester United plotting to bring former academy gem Angel Gomes back home Man United News And Transfer News
1 Considering how the current season has panned out, it is clear that Manchester United are in urgent need of a revamp and the addition of fresh blood. Midfield is one area in need of reinforcements with new co-owners INEOS planning a summer clearout and both Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are expected to be sold this summer. The Brazilian has been a shadow of his former self with Saudi Arabian clubs lining up for his signature. There are also murmurs that Scott McTominay and even skipper Bruno Fernandes could be moved on but those are based on the kind of offers potential clubs can come up with. Ideally, keeping in mind rising PSR concerns, the Red Devils will need to be smart with their recruitment and they cannot afford to go berserk with high-profile additions. Midfield additions needed A versatile playmaker capable of playing in different areas in the centre of the park would be the perfect signing and Teamtalk have thrown a very familiar name into the mix. Fans will remember Angel Gomes, one of the academy’s brightest talents, who went on to make 10 first-team appearances under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. At 16 years, 263 days old, the midfield magician became the youngest player to represent the Red Devils in the Premier League when he came on against Crystal Palace in the final game of the 2016/17 season. He also was the first player born in the 2000s to appear in the competition. Despite a new contract offer being on the table, the England U21 international decided to leave in search of better opportunities and joined up with Ligue 1 side Lille. He spent one season out on loan at Portuguese club Boavista and after a successful temporary spell, he has remained at the French club where he has continued to shine, thereby attracting plenty of admirers. This season, the 23-year-old has registered two goals and 10 assists, while playing all across the midfield including as a defensive midfielder on nine occasions. Sensational deal being planned to bring back Angel Gomes The Peoples Person recently relayed that Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur were looking at the former academy graduate but it seems Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen on bringing Gomes home as he fits the ideal profile of being homegrown as well as having Premier League experience. A move will not be easy with multiple European clubs also in the race due to the possibility of landing the midfielder on the cheap. “Manchester United are spying a shock deal to bring Angel Gomes back to Old Trafford, while a report has revealed Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are interested in him too. “Gomes’ classy performances and versatility have alerted a host of potential suitors. As per reports, Man Utd are ‘keeping tabs’ on his progress and are weighing up an astonishing move to re-sign him. “Man Utd chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe clearly feels his predecessors, alongside Solskjaer, did not do enough to keep Gomes at Old Trafford and will now try to rectify that issue by adding him back to the senior squad. Cut-price deal possible “Man Utd will face Premier League competition to snare Gomes, as Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham United have also been credited with interest. “Further afield, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are monitoring the situation in case they can snap the 23-year-old up for a reduced price.” The best part about a potential deal is the fact that the London-born athlete’s contract with Lille expires in 2025 and despite their best attempts, the player is yet to sign an extension. He could be available for as low as €22 million, a cut-price fee for someone of Gomes’ talents. But will INEOS bite? It will be interesting to see. Contract renewal talks for Sundowns star turn ugly!
Contract renewal talks for Sundowns star turn ugly!
There seems to be yet another fresh twist with regards contract negotiations between Mamelodi Sundowns and Teboho Mokoena  On Monday, this publication reported that Sundowns and Mokoena were at a stalemate with regards a contract renewal.  Mokoena only joined Sundowns in the January transfer window of 2022, coming in from cross-town rivals SuperSport United. Before joining the Brazilians, he was also heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. They then seemed to fall out of the race, with a club in Belgium joining and competing with Masandawana. In the end, it was the DStv Premiership champions that bid more and ended up getting his signature. Since joining Sundowns, Mokoena has been a mainstay on their side. He has also been a transformed player under Rulani Mokwena, with his game going to another level. Since joining the club, he has won three league titles, MTN8, Nedbank Cup and African Football League Cup. Besides Mokwena, he has also found himself as a key cog in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana midfield.  Mokoena has attracted interest from abroad and the continent With Mokoena having stellar performances for Bafana Bafana throughout Afcon, it’s no surprise that he would garner international interest. Clubs in the English Premier League and Ligue 1 are thought to be interested in the player. Even on the continent, he has suitors in Al Ahly. In an effort to not be found wanting, Sundowns have tried to tie down Mokoena to a new long-term deal. This publication reported yesterday, citing Soccer-Laduma that there was a twist in the tale and the two parties are moving in the right direction.  Now speaking to SABC Sport Mokoena’s agent Glyn Binkin has reacted angrily to the reports they’re making progress with Sundowns! Agent Binkin slams falls reports about progress with Sundowns! “We were rather surprised and disappointed to read in the media, reports emanating from sources close to Sundowns that discussions between the parties in respect of a new deal are on track and we are close to finalising such a deal. We have purposely stayed out of the media out of respect to Sundowns and the sensitivity around the negotiations, but feel it necessary to correct what has been said and written, and therefore set the record straight so as not to mislead anyone. There have been in discussions and negotiations since November, and sadly are no closer to finalising a new deal, which has led to a lot of frustration and disappointment for both myself and my client in this regard.” Said Binkin on the matter. He also hopes that he, Mokoena and Sundowns can find a quick resolution to this matter. “However, we are hopeful the club will present a revised offer, which will bring this to finality and in the best interests of all concerned, so that the player can continue producing Man of the Match performances for Sundowns for years to come.” He concluded.  Is this a sign that Mokoena prefers to stay at Sundowns rather than push for an overseas deal?

Dominik Szoboszlai is first Liverpool player confirmed for Euro 2024 Liverpool FC
Dominik Szoboszlai is first Liverpool player confirmed for Euro 2024 Liverpool FC
The Euros take place in Germany this year, and several Liverpool players are to be involved, though Dominik Szoboszlai is the first name to be confirmed. It is another full schedule for international players this year, with the Euros swiftly following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign. The tournament gets underway on June 14 and finishes in Berlin on July 14, though every player called up will be involved until the end of the group stage on June 26, at the very least. Szoboszlai will be one of many hoping to progress deep into the knockouts after being named in Hungary’s 26-man squad, with the 23-year-old to lead his country in his first international tournament. Named among Hungary’s forward options, Szoboszlai will be eager to find form having missed the chance to compete in Euro 2020 due to injury. Hungary failed to make it out of the group stage last time out and will be eager to avoid a similar fate when they face hosts Germany, Scotland and Switzerland in Group A. From a Liverpool perspective, if Hungary were to be knocked out in the first stage, Szoboszlai would return for pre-season in time for the three friendlies in the United States. Each player will be expected to have at least three weeks off this summer, and a group stage exit, for any Red, could see their return pencilled in anywhere from July 18. With this to be Arne Slot‘s first pre-season, it will be vital to have the squad together for as long as possible to get to grips with the new demands. It is beyond Liverpool’s control, though, when each of their internationals mark their return, but up to 10 Reds could be involved in the Euros and a further four at Copa America.

I signed for Pirates on the same day I was supposed to join Chiefs
I signed for Pirates on the same day I was supposed to join Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates used to be the most desirable destinations for players in the country.  While nowadays playing abroad is the objective, back in the days playing for Chiefs or Pirates was regarded the pinnacle.  The desire to join either Chiefs or Pirates is often fuelled by certain factors. In those days money was not the objective, motivation nor even present in South African football. What the players had was the love for the game and their clubs. What attracted one to a Chiefs or Pirates was the desire for trophies or even popularity. Alternatively, in a case where both wanted you, you’d pick the club you or your family members support.  But nowadays, you see players making the choice with a more professional mindset, rather than their hearts. A player who grew up supporting Chiefs could end up joining Pirates instead, because of a better offer, and vice versa. In fact, some of the greatest legends from either side of the Soweto divide grew up supporting their rivals. It is also common to see players who came up from the two club’s academies cross the floor at senior level. Players cross between Soweto giants The biggest current example being Yusuf Maart, who sometimes wears the Chiefs captains armband. He is a product of the Pirates academy, and captain their DStv Diski Challenge side. A player developed by Amakhosi and ended up at the Buccaneers is ex-midfielder Mpho Makola.  Makola joined Pirates from Free State Stars, with the skilful maestro quickly becoming a fan favourite. He would quickly cement his place in the Sea Robbers starting line up. But in a recent podcast with ex-Chiefs star, Josta Dladla, he explains he was actually supposed to be his teammate at the Glamour Boys instead! How Pirates stole Makola away from Chiefs! In a shocking turn of events, Makola explains that he was waiting for Bobby Motaung at FNB Stadium. The Chiefs manager was supposed to wrap up a deal for him, however, he fell ill. in stepped Pirates official Screamer Tshabalala, who swooped in the same day to secure the player’s signature on the same day.  Watch below how Makola describes Pirates’ smash and grab from Chiefs. Wow!

Rhulani Mokwena names POTS nominees includes Pirates star!
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has named an Orlando Pirates star, a Stellenbosch star and four Brazilians in his Player of The Season nomination list! Sundowns eased to a record-extending seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title. Pirates on the other hand won the MTN8 while Stellenbosch came out trumps in the inaugural Carling Cup. There’s been a number of top performers however Rhulani Mokwena has named his favourites to win the coveted Footballer of the Season award. Take a look at his picks below. Pirates star, Stellies star and Sundowns quartet make Rhulani’s cut “I honestly think, in my opinion, as I said even before, it’s Ronwen Williams, Lucas Ribeiro, Marcelo Allende and Teboho Mokoena,” Rhulani Mokwena said as quoted by IDiski Times. “And then, there must be, you have to commend the contribution of Patrick Maswanganyi and maybe Jayden Adams. “But the reality is the level of Ronza (Williams), the level of Tebza (Mokoena), the level of Marcelo Allende, when he comes on today, you can see, and the level of Lucas Ribeiro, for me they’ve been outstanding this season.” Patrick Maswanganyi deserves all the praises tonight, claiming the man of the match award and dare I say, even outshining Monnapule Saleng. Really impressed by the new Orlando Pirates man. pic.twitter.com/uZjB834Z0k — Sahil Ebrahim (@sahil_e_) August 29, 2023 In other news, Orlando Pirates have reportedly secured the services of talented SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes for next season. Despite being just 23 years of age, Johannes already has over 70 top-flight appearances to his name. The speedy fullback made a name for himself at Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) before joining SuperSport United in 2021. According to the latest reports, Jose Riveiro’s side have swooped in to sign the talented defender in a big-money move! Johannes had recently signed a new contract extension at SuperSport United, meaning Orlando Pirates had to fork out the big bucks for their target. Bucs reportedly land talented PSL defender “SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes is on his way to join Orlando Pirates next season,” a Sportswire report read. “Pirates are therefore aiming to strengthen their squad for their upcoming CAF club competition campaign next season. They have already secured qualification through their Nedbank Cup final appearance against Mamelodi Sundowns on 1 June at Mbombela Stadium. “Sportswire has been told the deal is done. Johannes would be joining the club he also scored against in a DStv Premiership match at Orlando Stadium in March 2022.” Kegan Johannes (22) vs Richards Bay 90 min played 35/46 passes completed = 76.1% 3 long balls completed 3/3 accurate crosses 3 clearances 3 interceptions 5 tackles 8 ground duels won 4 aerial duels won 2 fouls won A very underrated player in my opinion pic.twitter.com/igPlupsr4r — SA Football 1st (@RSAFutbol) August 5, 2023

Willy Kambwala could relieve the struggling Casemiro in crunch match versus Newcastle United Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United take on Newcastle United tonight in a crunch tie that could see the Red Devils’ European hopes extinguished, at least from their league position. Erik ten Hag’s men still have the chance to secure European football with an FA Cup win, but considering the trajectories of the two teams, it is not something many fans will hang their hat on. Tonight’s fixture will be the 179th meeting between the two sides in what is one of the most contested fixtures in English football. United have come out on top 91 times and with 46 matches ending up as a draw. With Newcastle in sixth place and three points ahead of United with a substantially superior goal difference, only a win will do for Ten Hag’s men. Here are some plotlines to unravel before the huge matchup. United need to turn around poor form against the Magpies The Red Devils came out on top against Newcastle in the all-important Carabao Cup final in February 2023, winning 2-0 via two goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford. Traditionally United have had a good record in the Premier League versus the Magpies but this has dried up as of late. Since winning the cup final, the teams have played three times with the Mancunian side losing 0-2, 0-3 and 0-1 in December 2023. Not only have United failed to score a goal but they have hardly been able to lay a glove on Eddie Howe’s side. This is something that must change if the Old Trafford crowd are to witness any type of European football next season. Can Willy Kambwala’s return ease the burden on Casemiro? One of the few feel-good moments for the senior male team this season has been the emergence of Kambwala as a serious squad option at the heart of the United defence. The teenager was thoroughly impressive against Liverpool last month and has normally passed the examination when called upon. United have suffered a plethora of injuries but with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof all still deemed too unfit to start, Kambwala could grab his chance tonight, as he made his return on Sunday off the bench against Arsenal. The Casemiro experiment at centre-back has been an unmitigated disaster with a range of pundits blasting both the veteran and the manager for putting him in such a tough position. Reportedly, the Brazilian also dislikes playing as a defender and is far from Erik ten Hag’s biggest fan. The Frenchman has youth on his side and his leadership and strength have been praised as he has been described as a “powerhouse”. Therefore, should Kambwala play, as we have predicted he will at The Peoples Person, a strong performance can allow Casemiro to move forward into his favoured defensive midfield role and hopefully restore some balance to the team. Will the attack be less toothless with Bruno Fernandes involved? United actually created more chances than Arsenal and surprisingly had more possession but they never really looked like scoring. Alejandro Garnacho huffed and puffed but his final ball was severely lacking and he faced the wrath of numerous pundits. Captain Bruno Fernandes tends to be a magnet for criticism these days but once again in the rare moments he doesn’t play, United look toothless. Against both Crystal Palace and Arsenal, games he has missed, Ten Hag’s side could have played 180 minutes in each and probably still wouldn’t have found the back of the net. In all likelihood, Bruno will be brought back into the team tonight and fans will be hoping he can spark a bit of magic once more for his beleaguered side. Afcon star to Kaizer Chiefs? Coach drops transfer surprise
Afcon star to Kaizer Chiefs? Coach drops transfer surprise
Nigerian star Stanley Nwabali was pushing for a move to Kaizer Chiefs, his current coach has revealed! The Chippa United goalkeeper has enjoyed an incredible season, which included an Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) silver medal. Nwabali also managed to keep 11 clean-sheets for Chippa United in the South African top-flight. The 2023 Afcon Golden Glove contender has long been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. And now, his current goalkeeper coach Sean Louw has dropped somewhat of a transfer bombshell! Nwabali wanted Kaizer Chiefs move last year – Sean Louw “Like I said to you, between you and me his childhood dream was to always play for Kaizer Chiefs, but even me, my childhood dream was to play for Chiefs, I don’t blame him,” Sean Louw told SABC Sport. “In the beginning of this season he wanted to play for Kaizer Chiefs. But I said to him before you speak to Chiefs, first go to Afcon because you will win the Afcon and you will be so much more worth than at Chiefs with all due respect.” Ronwen Williams and Stanley Nwabali have the most clean sheets at AFCON 2023 with 4 each. They both play in the South African League. Nigerian Goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali plays for Chippa United. South African Goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams plays for Mamelodi Sundowns. pic.twitter.com/99cYJMkp6S — Africa Facts Zone (@AfricaFactsZone) February 4, 2024 In other news, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Ntokozo Sikhakhane has urged the club to release one of their struggling midfielders. Sikhakhane, a midfielder who wore the Amakhosi jersey between 2005 and 2007, believes Siyethemba Sithebe should return to his former club, AmaZulu. Sithebe joined the Glamour Boys at the beginning of last season; however, he’s struggled to get going at the mighty Amakhosi. With a cloud of uncertainty hovering over his Kaizer Chiefs career, Sikhakhane believes Sithebe simply isn’t good enough for the Glamour Boys. Chiefs urged to release Sithebe “They can release him. In games that he has played for Kaizer Chiefs, there’s nothing special he has done,” Sikhakhane told FARPost. “And I still believe that he’s not the top midfielder; he’s just a player. But because Chiefs, they just sign any player. Once you shine at Santos, they bring you in; therefore once you shine at AmaZulu, they bring you. “They don’t look at whether you’re going to fit in their style or in their structure. So, for Sithebe, he hasn’t been playing for two years, and he can’t prove himself in the last ten games. What was he doing all along? I think he’d do well at AmaZulu. I’d also advise him to go back.” Final two Kaizer Chiefs fixtures revealed Chiefs host Polokwane City on Saturday. They then travel to the Mother City to face Cape Town Spurs on 25 May for their final match of the season. Where will Kaizer Chiefs finish on the log standings? Let us know your predictions in the comments section below.

Kaizer Chiefs give Itumeleng Khune TWO options!
Itumeleng Khune may still have a future at Kaizer Chiefs, beyond the end of the current season. Khune had has been vocal about prolonging his playing career, which is unlikely to be at Chiefs. Over the years, Khune has been a stalwart for Chiefs, being their number-one goalkeeper for well over a decade. In recent years, however, the 36-year-old has been plagued by injuries and lack of form, which have seen him dropped. With the club failing to find a regular goalkeeper to take over, they have often called on him repeatedly.  Rough season for Khune He rreturned with a man of the match performance for the Carling All Stars XI. The country got to see yet another glimpse of what he is still capable of in front of the sticks. With Chiefs making a statement that Khune will retire, he came out to say he isn’t ready to do so. Therefore, he might have to find another club next season. In recent times, he has even been linked with a move to Sekhukhune United, as a renewal of his contract looks unlikely. But now according to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs have given him an ultimatum. Chiefs give him two options? “For now Khune still has a future at the club (Chiefs). It could not be in the playing capacity but the club still wants to keep him. He has a legacy at the club and the club are proud to use him where he could fit in well. You remember at Erst it was proposed that he could be working in the marketing department with Jessica (Motaung) or also in the goalkeeping department but (that choice) now lies in his own hands because he has indicated that he would like to play for at least one or t two more United seasons before retiring. So, now it’s all up to Khune to decide whether he joins the backroom staff or he moves on to another club where he can play further,” said the source to the same publication. What should Khune do? Take the non-playing role at Chiefs or push for a few more years elsewhere?

Why Manchester United need to keep Jonny Evans next season opinion Man United News And Transfer News
Why Manchester United need to keep Jonny Evans next season opinion Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United is set to face Newcastle United tonight in what will be their final match at Old Trafford this season. This match could serve as a farewell to the Old Trafford crowd for a handful of players whose futures at the club are in doubt. As mentioned by the Manchester Evening News, Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, Tom Heaton, and Jonny Evans could all potentially play their final home match in a Man United jersey depending on where their futures take them. While Varane’s departure has been officially announced, Casemiro’s time at United also appears to be running out as his performances continue to dip. Heaton, whose contract is up at the end of the month, has played a minimal role for United, while Martial has been largely absent through injury since his arrival from Monaco in 2015. One player who could prove to still be worth keeping around, however, is veteran centre-back Jonny Evans. Despite already being 36 years of age, Evans has proven to be a valuable member of United’s lineup this season. The fact that he returned to United as a free transfer at the start of the season makes him all the more worthwhile. In 21 Premier League matches which includes 14 starts, Evans has been a rock at the back for United, making one tackle per game, 3.3 clearances per game, and 3.1 ball recoveries per match. He has proven to be a strong physical presence, taking advantage of his height to win 65% of his aerial duels while winning 55% of his ground duels. Critically, he has not made any errors that led to a goal. Evans has proven particularly good on the ball for a defender, with an impressive 67% successful dribbles and completing 88% of his passes, which includes 91% accuracy from within his own half. (Stats via Sofascore) He thus outshines United’s other backup defensive options across numerous metrics. Evans has outperformed Lindelof in tackles per game (0.8) and clearances (2) while proving more effective than Harry Maguire at successful dribbles (0). Most notably, he outperformed both backup options as well as first-choice defender Lisandro Martinez in ground duels – Martinez won 47%, Lindelof won 41%, and Maguire won 50%. The United veteran’s impact is even greater when comparing his Premier League and UEFA Champions League performances to other players in the top five European leagues. Evans ranks within the top 98th percentile in blocks, making 2.06 per game, along with the 89th percentile in clearances with 5.14 per match. (FBRef) While fresh, young talent at the back is needed for Erik ten Hag’s team, there’s no denying the value that Evans has brought to the lineup this season. After all, he has been an important backup when the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof have been unavailable through injury. As United have learned the hard way this season, overusing players week in and week out increases their risk of injuries while also negatively affecting their form. When it comes to those less crucial games where some starting 11 players are in needed of a break, a reliable, hard-working backup such as Evans will do well to fortify United’s defence. Mofokeng in Bafana preliminary squad Four days later, Bafana will take on Zimbabwe on home soil, with Bloemfontein set to be the venue. In preparation for those fixtures, Broos has named a preliminary squad, which will be cut down before the trip to Nigeria. And just like any other squad selection, there are both inclusions and omissions which make interesting talking points. In terms of inclusions, the much anticipated one of Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng takes the cake.  Mofokeng has enjoyed a breakthrough season for Pirates. He has earned the right to be one of the first names on coach Jose Riveiro’s starting line up. The 19-year-old has 10 goal contributions in 34 games in all competitions for the Buccaneers this season. Besides the Bafana attraction, he has also earned the attentions of a few teams beyond South African borders.  Will he leave Pirates? Earlier in the season, Pirates announced that Mofokeng had been invited for trials at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Off late, there have been reports of him attracting interest from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers. Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg and African giants Al Ahly are also in the mix. A Bafana cap will only boost his profile further in that regard,  With the squad set to be cut down, Mofokeng might still not make the final Bafana squad. Should he do so though, then it would signal massive progression in his fledging career.

Teboho Mokoena no closer to signing new Sundowns deal
Teboho Mokoena no closer to signing new Sundowns deal
Teboho Mokoena is nowhere closer to signing a new Mamelodi Sundowns contract, according to his agent Glynn Binkin. Binkin was speaking to SABC Sport in an attempt to set the record straight after reports emerged that the two parties had finalised the negotiations. Sundowns are eager to tie down Mokoena to a new and improved deal which will be long-term in order to fend off interest from abroad. Mokoena has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs in and outside of the African continent since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). And while those rumours have gone on and on, there appears to be nothing concrete tabled, and Sundowns are happy to keep him longer at the club. Mokoena’s current deal expires in June 2026, and while Sundowns still have plenty of time to negotiate with him, they just don’t want to lose him for peanuts. It looks like the issue of a buy-out clause coupled with an improved salary package are what caused the standoff between Mokoena and Sundowns. Now, Binkin said he has tried by all means to avoid talking about the Mokoena negotiations in the media out of respect for Sundowns. However, he felt compelled to do so now that incorrect information has been circulated in the local media. And while Binkin said they are nowhere close to sealing the deal, he is hopeful that Sundowns will present a revised offer for Mokoena. TEBOHO MOKOENA’S AGENT SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON SUNDOWNS TALKS We were rather surprised and disappointed to read in the media, reports emanating from sources close to Sundowns that discussions between the parties in respect of a new deal are on track and we are close to finalising such a deal,” said Binkin.  “We have purposely stayed out of the media out of respect to Sundowns and the sensitivity around the negotiations, but feel it necessary to correct what has been said and written, and therefore set the record straight so as not to mislead anyone.”  “We have been in discussions and negotiations since November, and sadly are no closer to finalising a new deal, which has led to a lot of frustration and disappointment for both myself and my client in this regard,” added Binkin.  “However, we are hopeful the club will present a revised offer, which will bring this to finality and in the best interests of all concerned, so that the player can continue producing Man of the Match performances for Sundowns for years to come.” BAFANA BAFANA INTERNATIONAL HAS BEEN A STALWART FOR DOWNS Mokoena, who’s also a Bafana Bafana international, has been a stalwart for Sundowns since his arrival from SuperSport United two seasons ago. He’s won two league titles and the African Super League (AFL), and has been to two CAF Champions League semi-finals with Sundowns.

As per Soccer-Laduma, Orlando Pirates are keen to tie Olisa Nda down to a brand-new contract at the club. “You know his (Ndah) initial contract is ending in June this year. He joined the team (Pirates) in 2021 signing a three-year contract but now the club wants to keep him further. It’s true last season was not a good season for him but he has come back strong this season. Everyone at the club is happy with his performance and that’s why they are offering him another three-year deal, until June 2027. From where things are, we can say it’s as good as done. Chiefs legend casts doubt on clubs ability to scout proper players
Chiefs legend casts doubt on clubs ability to scout proper players
Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has ignited a debate by questioning the success of the club’s player scouting procedures. Especially in the hunt for new goalkeepers ahead of the 2024/2025 Premier Soccer league season. Chiefs’ Quest for Stability With the uncertainty surrounding the future of veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune. Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in a difficult position, desperately seeking stability to anchor their defence. As Khune’s contract edges towards its conclusion in June 2024. Chiefs find themselves scrambling to fill the void left by the stalwart shot-stopper. Disciplinary issues marred his appearances, exacerbating the challenge. Inconsistencies in Goal: Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma have shared the goalkeeping duties in Khune’s absence. Both of whom have struggled to maintain the level of consistency expected at a club of Chiefs’ stature. Petersen’s tenure between the sticks has been listed by a series of costly errors. Leading to his eventual demotion to the bench. Bruce Bvuma’s Trials: Meanwhile, Bvuma, despite his extended run in the team, has failed to inspire confidence, conceding goals and failing to provide the assurance needed in the goalkeeping department. Reports linking Chiefs with goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali from Chippa United and Salim Magoola from Richards Bay FC have surfaced. Suggesting the club’s intent to reinforce their options between the posts. Chiefs legend: Brian Baloyi’s critique: Chiefs legend Baloyi, a revered figure in Chiefs’ history, has voiced scepticism regarding the touted signings. Emphasising the importance of character and adaptability in handling the pressures associated with donning the famous black and gold jersey. In a candid assessment, Baloyi highlights the intricacies involved in scouting players suitable for the demanding environment at Chiefs, where the expectations are sky-high and the scrutiny relentless. Chiefs legend: Reflecting on potential recruits Drawing from his experience, Baloyi questions whether Nwabali and Magoola possess the requisite attributes to thrive at Kaizer Chiefs. Hinting at the need for a more discerning approach to recruitment. In Baloyi’s words: “The biggest problem at Chiefs right now is that they could be linked with any goalkeeper, but the problem is scouting the right players, not only goalkeepers,” as quoted by FARPost. He further adds, “you have to do a proper assessment because the most important part of playing for Kaizer Chiefs is character.” Kaizer Chiefs find themselves at a crossroads as they navigate the challenging terrain of player recruitment. With Baloyi’s insights serving as a touching reminder of the importance of diligence and taste in shaping the future of the club’s scouting department. The new Kaizer Chiefs mentor will have a huge job on his hands.

SEVEN Orlando Pirates players in latest Bafana Bafana squad one shock omission
Seven Orlando Pirates players have been picked in the latest Bafana Bafana squad. However, one player can count himself extremely unlucky to have been ignored. Seven Pirates players picked for Bafana, Mabasa left out Defenders Tapelo Xoki, Thabiso Monyane, Innocent Maela and Nkosinathi Sibisi join attackers Evidence Makgopa, Patrick Maswanganyi and teenager Relebohile Mofokeng. Mofokeng’s maiden call-up has been celebrated by many quarters on social media. The youngster has three goals and five assists in the league this season. That form has alerted suitors in Scotland, Austria and Egypt. Tshegofatso Mabasa, the current leader in the Golden Boot race with 15 strikes in the DStv Premiership, is controversially left out. According to football agent Braden Proctor, via SoccerLaduma, Relebohile Mofokeng will be the next big name to leave South African shores and try his hand in Europe or elsewhere in Africa. There are rumours that Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic, RB Salzburg in Austria and Egypt’s Al Ahly are all monitoring the teenager’s situation. He also went on trial at English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Pirates know deep down that a move away from the club might be inevitable for Mofokeng, but they still hold a strong bargaining position. The Sea Robbers could do worse than drumming up interest in the star, who’s under a long contract with them, to create a bidding war. Extracting the maximum value for their prized asset is non-negotiable. Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng vs Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Hospital. Image: BackpagePix ARE THE BUCS DOING A DEAL FOR JOHANNES? According to KickOff.com, Pirates are in an advanced state of negotiations with SuperSport defender Kegan Johannes. The 23-year-old is a specialist right-back but more than capable of slotting into a central defensive role. New man Thabiso Lebitso, has been impressive on the right-hand side but is on loan from Chippa. Meanwhile, Bandile Shandu could be on the way out of the club after seeing his first-team minutes dry up. Thabiso Monyane is the natural option in that position. Johannes would provide depth and backup in two areas. Johannes has made 16 appearances in the league for Matsatsantsa this term. “Pirates are thin in the right back position. They are keen to sign Kegan Johannes. The negotiations between the two clubs are now at an advanced stage,” said their source. SEVEN Orlando Pirates players in latest Bafana Bafana squad one shock omission
Orlando Pirates star SNUBBED From latest Bafana Bafana squad!
Orlando Pirates star SNUBBED From latest Bafana Bafana squad!
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his preliminary squad for the two 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month.  Bafana are set to take on both Nigeria and Zimbabwe in June, in their quest to qualify for the showpiece.  Bafana to take on Nigeria and Zimbabwe Having finished third to earn a bronze medal at Afcon, Bafana will try to get to the World Cup. Their next assignment in that regard will be a trip away to Uyo to take on Nigeria on the 7th of June. This will be a grudge match for Broos’ charges who will want to get revenge after their penalties loss. Four days later, Bafana will take on Zimbabwe on home soil, with Bloemfontein set to be the venue. In preparation for those fixtures, Broos has named a preliminary squad, which will be cut down before the trip to Nigeria. And just like any other squad selection, there are both inclusions and omissions which make interesting talking points. This time around, the biggest omission has to be that of Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.  Pirates star Mabasa snubbed Mabasa has been banging in the goals for fun, since his return to Pirates in January. He spent the first half of the season at Moroka Swallows, where he netted six goals. He is currently the top goal scorer in the DStv Premiership, with his tally sitting on 15. Many had been expecting him to replace teammate Evidence Makgopa who had been suffering from injury until recently.  But in true Broos style, he has made a controversial exclusion, deciding to stick with the fit again Makgopa. With the form that Mabasa has shown since January, one would’ve expected that he would at least make the preliminary squad. But as it stands, he will watch on from the sidelines. Broos has decided to recall Lyle Foster and stick to Iqraam Rayners, who is battling Mabasa for the Golden Boot. Here is the full Bafana preliminary squad below:

Spurs were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship last weekend. On-loan Boitumelo Radiopane and Luvuyo Phewa will return to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively following Cape Town Spurs‘ relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC). WATCH: Pirates react to video of players ‘betting on matches’ (VIDEO) Mike Makaab, who represents the two players, has confirmed. Radiopane and Phewa, who helped Spurs get promotion to the DStv Premiership in the 2022/23 MFC season, saw their loan deals extended by Spurs, but they could not help the club retain their top flight status. Now Makaab has confirmed that both players will now return to their mother clubs. “Well, the two players that we represent are actually loan players, that’s Boitumelo Radiopane and Luvuyo Phewa. They will return to their respective clubs,” Makaab told Gagasi FM. “Vuyo to Mamelodi Sundowns and Radiopane back to Orlando Pirates. So, we’re in the… let’s say fortunate position, that we have players at the club that we have to really concern ourselves about. “But, it’s a sad day. Because the club has a big heritage. I thought that they would have strengthened the team with a few more experienced players, early on and then given themselves more of a chance to retain their PSL status. ALSO READ: Pirates young gun Mofokeng in Bafana squad for World Cup qualifiers “Sadly, it wasn’t to be and they have to work hard now to get back into the top flight now of South African football,” added Makaab.  Spurs, who are currently at the bottom of the DStv Premiership with 19 points after 28 games, were relegated to the MFC after 15th-placed Richards Bay FC registered a shock win over Orlando Pirates last Saturday.

CONFIRMED: Pep Lijnders named as new Salzburg manager Liverpool coach joins him Liverpool FC
CONFIRMED: Pep Lijnders named as new Salzburg manager Liverpool coach joins him Liverpool FC
Pepijn Lijnders has been confirmed as the new head coach at Red Bull Salzburg, with Jurgen Klopp‘s right-hand man stepping out on his own after his Anfield departure. Liverpool’s assistant manager was confirmed to be leaving the club in the immediate aftermath of Klopp’s news earlier this year, instantly ruling himself out of taking over at Anfield. On Tuesday, reports emerged over Salzburg’s interest in Lijnders, but that has quickly escalated to an announcement, with the Dutchman confirmed to be taking over for the 2024/25 season. Vitor Matos, Liverpool’s current elite development coach, will join him in Austria as assistant coach. On the announcement of the news, Lijnders said: “I am very proud to become the new head coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg. “This is a real privilege for me. After PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto and Liverpool FC, I am now moving to another exceptional club with a really good structure and a particular focus on youth development. “I want to develop a mentality with the team that places a lot of emphasis on attacking style of play and where passion and hunger for success are the basis of everything. “Together with my assistant coach Vitor Matos and the entire support team, we will do our best to help the club continue to grow in an ever-changing football world. “My family has visited the city before and was overwhelmed by its beauty and the friendliness of the people. That was the last and important step for me in choosing FC Red Bull Salzburg.” Lijnders’ only previous experience as a manager was a brief spell in charge of NEC Nijmegen, but he quickly returned to Liverpool as assistant manager in 2018/19. Salzburg sacked Gerhard Struber last month, with sister club FC Liefering’s Onur Cinel stepping up on an interim basis.

Four key players in the chase for the Caf Champions League
Four key players in the chase for the Caf Champions League
These Pirates and Stellenbosch players could all have a say in who finishes as runners-up in the DStv Premiership. Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC are locked in a battle to finish as runners-up in this season’s DStv Premiership, and to qualify with champions Mamelodi Sundowns for next season’s Caf Champions League. Stellenbosch would love to finish off a superb season by earning the right to play in the Champions League for the first time, while Pirates are looking to renew their relationship with Africa’s biggest club competition. The Buccaneers were the first South African side to win the tournament back in 1995, and reached the final in 2013, where Roger De Sa’s Buccaneers lost to Al Ahly. Pirates will finish off the season with the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns on June 1, but will no doubt also be keen to do so as officially Masandawana’s closest rivals. Phakaaathi takes a look at two players from Stellenbosch and two players from Pirates who could be key in the final two match days of the Premiership campaign. Jayden Adams Jayden Adams. Picture: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix 23 year-old Jayen Adams is having a brilliant season with Stellenbosch, and was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in the Ivory Coast. The midfielder has an eye for a killer pass, and has already provided six assists in the DStv Premiership this season. There is little surprise that Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly chasing his services, and he will have a chance to provide an audition on Saturday when Stellies host Sundowns at Athlone Stadium. Steve Barker’s side have gone slightly off the boil of late, and could certainly do with Adams returning to his best as the campaign draws to a close. Iqraam Rayners Iqraam Rayners. Picture: Ryan Wilkisky/BackpagePix Iqraam Rayners has a had a sensational last few months in a Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafana shirt, racking up the goals to enhance his reputation as one of the top strikers in the DStv Premiership. A quietly spoken striker, Rayners does much of his talking on the pitch and did this nowhere more than when he bagged all five goals in a 5-0 win over Polokwane City on April 27. Rayners has failed to hit the back of the net in his last three games for Stellies, and could do with ramping up his pursuit of the Golden Boot (Rayners currently has 14 goals, one behind Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa) if the Cape Winelands side are to raise their glasses to the Champions League next season. Tshegofatso Mabasa Tshegofatso Mabasa. Picture: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix Tshegofatso Mabasa has proved just how big a mistake Orlando Pirates made loaning him to Moroka Swallows in the first half of the season, with a stunning goal spree for the Buccaneers in 2024. The 27 year-old marksman has 12 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions for Pirates this year, including his first ever senior hat-trick in a 7-1 win over Golden Arrows. Nine league goals for Pirates have shot him to the top of the DStv Premiership scoring charts, when added to the six he scored at the Birds. It is amazing, really, that Mabasa was overlooked for the Bafana squad named by Hugo Broos on Wednesday, particularly as the man Mabasa is currently keeping out of the Pirates side, Evidence Makgopa, did get the nod. Relebohile Mofokeng Relebohile Mofokeng. Picture: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix If there is a player in the Orlando Pirates team who produces that short take of expectation at what they might do when they receive the ball, it is Relebohile Mofokeng. The 19 year-old attacking sensation has an array of tricks to wow even the most world-weary of spectators, and while his decision making could be better at times, he has already shown a distinct upward trend in 2024. Mofokeng’s link up play with Mabasa has been a main part of Pirates’ attacking renaissance this year, and if this weekend’s 1-0 loss to Richards Bay is proven as an exception to the rampant rule in the Buccaneers’ next two matches, it may well be Pirates who have Champions League football next season.

Manchester United plotting audacious summer swoop for Aston Villas Ollie Watkins Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have conceded a club Premier League record 82 goals so far in this campaign but that doesn’t mean the problems are only in defence. The team has looked toothless in attack without Bruno Fernandes in the last two games and even before that, a lack of attacking patterns has been clear. Rasmus Hojlund has had a baptism of fire in his debut season at a dream club, often looking overmatched in skill and physicality. The strategy of buying a young player and throwing him into the deep end to let him learn on the job hasn’t worked out well for United. It is no wonder then that INEOS’ first order of business in the summer is likely to be getting some help for Hojlund. Talksport reports that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has identified Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as the ideal profile of centre-forward he wants at United. The club is plotting an audacious summer swoop for the former Brentford man, who has scored 27 goals this season across all competitions. United know that extracting him from Villa will prove to be difficult, especially as they have qualified for the Champions League next season. Watkins the attacking backbone of Unai Emery’s side and Villa owners are unlikely to want to alienate their elite manager who recently signed a new contract by selling his star player. Nonetheless, United are determined to try and would hope that the lure of Old Trafford and the promise of leading United into a new era prompts Watkins into action. Roy Keane recently backed Watkins as the perfect striker for United as well so the charm offensive from ex-players is well and truly on. The striker signed a five-year deal just last year and there is reportedly no release clause so any negotiations for him are likely to begin in the triple-figure territory, if at all. It’s not an easy deal to make, but the kind that kickstarts eras at clubs. The question for United is, can they afford to spend so much on one position when there is a whole squad to rebuild? Orlando Pirates want Olisa Ndah to stay at the club for another three years but there’s a potential twist in his immediate future. Image: BackpagePix Foreign interest is still there Not long ago, Italian Serie A outfit Sassuolo were credited with an interest in the Nigerian defender who has one cap for the Super Eagles. “The overseas move is not completely out as there have been inquiries in the past. If that chance arises again, then the club is ready to give him that chance. They’ve done it with other players in the past and they won’t stand in his way. But if there is nothing from Europe of the Middle East, then he will stay for the next three seasons,” the source concluded. Despite an injury-ravaged campaign, 26-year-old Olisa Ndah has made 17 league appearances this term. There were rumours that the talented central defender agitated for a move away and then went on a striker when the club didn’t grant him his wish, but Pirates have flat-out refused those claims. Anfield Road Stands final seats start to be installed Liverpool FC
Anfield Road Stands final seats start to be installed Liverpool FC
The new Anfield Road End has been hosting over 60,000 fans for months, but the last remaining section of seats are currently being installed in the lower tier. Liverpool opened the new stand in phases this season after construction delayed a full opening at the start of the season, though both tiers have been open for some time now. And during that time you may have noticed there was still work to be done in the lower tier, in the back corner where the Anfield Road Stand meets the Main Stand. A small section was without rail seating, but birds eye footage from SS Skies on YouTube has shown the first two rows have now been installed. In total, there are approximately 152 seats that are to be installed in this section, which will be occupied by away supporters – who sit below the stand’s new hospitality section. Understandably, though, there will be no hospitality windows behind the away end. Once complete, Anfield’s capacity will be pushed closer to 61,000, which makes it the eighth biggest stadium in the United Kingdom. Work continues elsewhere on the stand, which includes external work on Anfield Road and the immediate surrounding area. The wait has been a lot longer than expected but it has been worthwhile, with the new stand a sight to behold every matchday. Jurgen Klopp was quick to share his delight when both tiers fully opened earlier this year, saying: “This stadium grew and grew. It was always wonderful but now it’s really outrageously wonderful. “Really top, really top, really loud in the right moments.” He won’t be enjoying it as a manager for much longer, but Anfield played host to a farewell with members of Liverpool’s staff on Tuesday, with Klopp treated to a special thank you.

Orlando Pirates offer international new three-year deal!
Orlando Pirates offer international new three-year deal!
Orlando Pirates are believed to be ready to offer one of their international star a new three-year deal.  Olisa Ndah is highly regarded at Pirates and the club are looking to tie him down for years to come. Last year, it was reported that Ndah was on his way out of Pirates. It was thought Italian Serie A side Sassuolo would be his destination. It was believed the Buccaneers had gone as far as giving them their price for a potential transfer fee.  Ndah almost left Pirates In the end, Ndah’s move to Sassuolo ended up being just that, talks. An injury to the centre back was thought to be why the Italians did not seem to follow up. That meant that he stayed at Pirates, giving their faithful more time to enjoy his ‘Rolls Royce’ style of defence. He is now on the verge of finishing the season, which will mean he is set to complete three seasons at the Sea Robbers.  At the end of the previous season, there was speculation that Ndah was in danger of being released at Pirates. This was due to allegedly misbehaving after not getting a move abroad. Fast forward a year and it is thought the cub are set to offer him a new three-year deal as per Soccer-Laduma.  Now set for long-term extension? “You know his (Ndah) initial contract is ending in June this year. He joined the team (Pirates) in 2021 signing a three-year contract but now the club wants to keep him further. It’s true last season was not a good season for him but he has come back strong this season. Alisson subject of Saudi transfer interest but No. 1 very happy at Liverpool Liverpool FC
Alisson subject of Saudi transfer interest but No. 1 very happy at Liverpool Liverpool FC
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia ahead of this summer’s transfer window. But sources close to the Brazilian have told This Is Anfield that he remains “very happy” on Merseyside and is not pushing for a departure. According to a report in The Telegraph earlier this week, Alisson is one of a number of Premier League stars being eyed by Saudi chiefs ahead of the summer. Man City goalkeeper Ederson and Man United duo Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro also form part of a plan to bring further marquee signings to the Middle East. However, attempts to prise Alisson away from Liverpool are likely to fall flat, with the player understood to be content at Anfield. That the 31-year-old is tied to a contract that runs until 2027 also means the Reds are in a strong position to fend off any interest. As such, he is not expected to play any part in the huge reshuffle that is coming to Liverpool’s goalkeeping department this summer. Long-serving coaches John Achterberg and Jack Robinson are both set to join Jurgen Klopp in leaving when the season comes to a close. Adrian has also revealed that he will depart upon the expiry of his contract, while it is thought that Caoimhin Kelleher could be keen on securing regular first-team football elsewhere. After a clause in that deal was triggered last season, Alisson is Liverpool’s third-highest earner behind Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Sundowns star turns 39 older than his coach
Sundowns star turns 39 older than his coach
Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Denis Onyango is celebrating his birthday today. At 39, Oyango is older than his coach Rulani Mokwena. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ DENIS ONYANGO Onyango, originally from Uganda‘s Kampala, arrived at SuperSport United in 2006 from Ethiopian giants Saint George. He later joined Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2010, before joining Sundowns in 2013 via a loan spell with Bidvest Wits. With a remarkable 10 DStv Premiership titles and 39 birthdays, Onyango’s coach at Kabo Yellow, Rulani Mokwena, only turned 37 in January. DSTV PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS OLDER THAN RULANI MOKWENA Bernard Parker, 38, TS Galaxy Onismor Bhasera, 38, SuperSport United Nazeer Allie, 38, Cape Town Spurs Washington Arubi, 38, SuperSport United Lindokuhle Mbatha, 38, TS Galaxy Siyabonga Mpontshane, 38, Orlando Pirates Denis Onyango, 39, Mamelodi Sundowns Clayton Daniels, 39, Cape Town Spurs Vuyo Mere, 40, TS Galaxy. HOW TO PLAY AGAINST RULANI MOKWENA’S TEAM Speaking to the media before meeting Sundowns on Tuesday, Royal AM coach John Maduka said his team needed to be defensively disciplined against the champions. “Sundowns are a team that believes in themselves and Coach Rulani Mokwena and his technical team have done a very good job. They don’t play for a draw in every game because they go for a win,” Maduka told the Citizen. “It seems like it’s in their system and to stop them you have to be tactically disciplined and that’s the one way that you can be able to stop them. You can allow them to have the ball in certain areas but you don’t allow them to come in your half because if they do that, they will cause so many problems. Furthermore, Maduka said teams have to be intentional when they have the ball against Sundowns. “Again, when you have the ball, you must use it because if you don’t use it well, they will press you immediately. We were not far in the last game from getting a point and we can build on where we left off before we conceded. “You have to defend well and you can’t just take the game to Sundowns because you will open on the other side. They play in every moment of the game and they can also play in transition and combination play. Tactical discipline has to be there and the concentration has to be at a maximum and that is the only way that you can stop them,” Maduka concluded. Having sealed a record seventh DStv Premiership title in a row, is there any current team that can stop Sundowns from lifting an eighth league title next season? Manchester United are looking at Chelsea duo to solve left-back crisis in the summer Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester United are looking at Chelsea duo to solve left-back crisis in the summer Man United News And Transfer News
1 It has been a disastrous season so far for Manchester United who are in danger of failing to qualify for European competitions altogether. Manager Erik ten Hag’s flawed tactical switch at the start of the season was seen as one of the causes behind the poor form exhibited by the team. The other factor that has aided in the decline has been the ever-mounting pile of injuries. Players have suffered more than 60 separate cases of injury with INEOS unhappy with the Dutchman’s training regimen and have even ordered a probe to get to the bottom of this issue. The biggest casualty has been the defence with the former Ajax coach hardly ever having the luxury of picking his strongest back-four this campaign. LB crisis Left-back is an area of concern with Tyrell Malacia having missed the entire season due to injury while Luke Shaw’s injury problems seem to have returned with a vengeance. The England international has ended up missing 32 games this season and with Malacia’s future far from certain, there is a need to strengthen in that position. Academy graduate Alvaro Fernandez is expected to be sold to Benfica after Ten Hag decided he was not good enough for the step-up to the first team. United were forced to dip into the loan market to bring in Sergio Reguilon who showed passion and determination but could not impress the manager and his loan was terminated in January. The Red Devils were initially inclined towards a temporary move for Marc Cucurella of Chelsea but it had fallen through and it seems the Blues star is once again on the radar. If indeed the 20-time English league champions decide to bring in an additional left-back, journalist Simon Phillips has revealed that the Spaniard and Ben Chilwell are both targets. “I’m hearing that United have reignited that interest in the Spanish left back ahead of a potential move this summer. They like Cucurella, who has interest from other clubs now coming in as well,” Phillips wrote on his substack. Another Chelsea raid While both can be termed as effective backups, Shaw’s injury history could mean a more increased role for whoever lands up at Old Trafford. The only concern is the fact that both have had disappointing spells this year and are equally injury-prone. The former Brighton man has missed 17 games while the ex-Leicester star has been sidelined for 36 games this term. Both are on long-term deals and the London side are known to drive a hard bargain as seen from United’s recent acquisition of Mason Mount. The Old Trafford side can ill-afford another injury-prone Chelsea misfit on big wages. It will be interesting to see how INEOS go about recruitment this summer.
