Scott McTominay reveals Jose Mourinho as the manager who will always be special to him Man United News And Transfer News
1 Every manager that has been at Manchester United has seen their tenure end in misery and defeat, leading to an eventual departure. However, that doesn’t mean there haven’t been any high points in their tenures. Even David Moyes started off by winning the Community Shield! The players similarly hold some managers in higher regard than the others, even more so if the person in the dugout kickstarted their careers. No wonder, then, that Scott McTominay picked Jose Mourinho as the manager who will always be special to him. In an interview with FourFourTwo, McTominay said Mourinho will always be “a hero of mine” and he will be “forever grateful for what he did for me”. The Scotland international revealed that even his grandparents “love” Mourinho and they have a picture in their house of McTominay standing alongside the Portuguese on his debut. He said: “They loved him because he gave me that moment. He gave me that initial opportunity, so he will always be a hero of mine. I’ll be forever grateful for everything that he did for me.” It doesn’t come as a surprise how highly the United midfielder rates Mourinho as he remains the one and only winner of the “Manager’s Player of the Season” award! Mourinho memorably invented the award after a season for the sole purpose of recognising McTominay’s efforts for him and till the end, when the dressing room turned toxic, the player remained as one of his trusted lieutenants. McTominay lifted the lid on how the then-manager helped him navigate senior football in the beginning. He said: “I remember that when I first started training with the first team, I got into an argument with a couple of the senior players over the way a small-sided game was going. “I was only 17 or 18 at the time, but I wasn’t happy that our team was losing and maybe I went too far. Jose pulled me aside and said, ‘You can’t speak to the senior professionals like that.’ He told me that they would respect me for standing up for myself and having that fire in the belly, but I had to get them onside first. “I think he knew my reaction came from a good place – because I wanted to do well. It gave me a lot to think about when I went back to my digs that night.” Multiple managers have come and gone since Mourinho but McTominay has remarkably emerged as a player who has been a trusted presence for every single one of them. Perhaps that growth and personality is what Mourinho embedded in him when he was starting out in football which is why he holds a special place in his heart. Manchester Uniteds plans for Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana get major boost Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United will be looking to add reinforcements in several positions after a wretched summer and defence plus midfield figure to be at the top of that list. Rumour mill also has INEOS looking for preferably a Premier League-proven player with upside as well. Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana fit that template to a tee which is why links to them have been incessant. Branthwaite, in particular, has emerged as a leading contender to join United in the summer as the club tries to freshen up its defensive ranks. Therefore, the comments from Kevin Thelwell, Everton’s director of football, will come as music to the ears of United fans. Thelwell penned an open letter to Everton fans ahead of the summer window and in light of the club’s precarious financial situation, has laid bare their reality. The Everton chief accepted that “players will be sold” as they have to “protect the long-term stability of the club”. He conceded that it would not be “exciting” to hear that but “it is the right thing for Everton”. He said: “Whilst we want to ensure the team is as competitive as possible, we cannot lose sight of our central objective to protect the long-term stability of the club. “That does mean players will be sold…That may not be exciting to hear but, under our current circumstances, it is the right thing for Everton.” The Toffees have already been hit by multiple point deductions this season for breaching the league’s Profit and Sustainability rules. Branthwaite and Onana are arguably their biggest assets, with some reports claiming that negotiations for Branthwaite could begin at a valuation as high as £80 million. Onana is also just 22 and has remained a beacon of light, adding stardust and combativeness to Everton’s midfield. Both players fit what INEOS are looking for in terms of Premier League experience, age, and playing profile. Comments from Thelwell will alert other clubs to their availability as well and make it so that a bidding war might commence for the pair. United will need to be smart and avoid overpaying for either player, especially since Everton’s situation dictates “players will be sold”! Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Manchester United put Victor Lindelof up for sale in upcoming summer window Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s coming summer transfer window will go a long way towards deciding how the INEOS era at the club begins. While the focus will be on more long-term goals, an immediate refreshment of the squad is the need of the hour. Defence is the biggest area of concern, with the club conceding a record 81 goals so far this season and four tough fixtures up ahead. It has been due to a combination of freakish amount of injuries and bad form that United look like they need to score four goals every game to have a chance of winning. To that tune, INEOS are looking to be ruthless in the summer and Victor Lindelof figures to be a part of that culling. TalkSport reports that United will want two new centre-backs this summer as there are no plans to extend Raphael Varane’s contract and Lindelof will be put up for sale. The Swede has had his detractors, especially when it comes to the physical side of the game, but has generally been a reliable presence. However, the injury malaise has engulfed him this season as well and with that, his biggest ability which is his availability, can no longer be relied upon. As a result, he has joined the list of expendables at United with the club open to offers for him. Lindelof also hits the sweet spot where United might get a good fee for him, something which can’t be said for many of their expendables. He was a target for Atletico Madrid last season but was kept on for squad depth and similar interest could be the case this summer as well. He will enter the last year of his contract in the summer so this will be United’s last chance of getting a fee for him. As per Financial Fair Play rules and amortisation, any fee received for him figures to be pure profit as he joined United in 2017 so his original value on the books has been wiped off during his initial contract. Therefore, United could pounce at the chance of getting pure profit while also ridding themselves of a player who has had question marks over him and is in the last year of his contract. Andre Onana wins Aprils Premier League Save of the Month for effort against Burnley Man United News And Transfer News
1 At least someone at Manchester United is getting some positive recognition for their efforts in a wretched April. United won just one game in seven in April across all competitions, a 4-2 win against bottom club Sheffield United. There wasn’t much to celebrate as the club went from contenders for Champions League qualification to becoming outsiders for any European place at all next season. Amidst the rubble, Andre Onana has been awarded the Premier League Save of the Month award for April. Onana’s save off Lyle Foster’s header during the 1-1 draw against Burnley has been recognised as the best save of the month. The video of the save, where his reflexes and flexibility are at full display can be seen below- Superb, @AndreyOnana This stop from our no.24 has won the @PremierLeague Save of the Month award for April #MUFC || #PLAwards pic.twitter.com/PFPUGS1oou — Manchester United (@ManUtd) May 10, 2024 This is the first time the Cameroonian has won this award since joining the club in the summer, with no other goalkeeper repeating either. He beat competition from six other goalkeepers, including fierce rivals Liverpool’s Alisson and ex-player Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace. For Onana, the Burnley fixture was a mixed bag despite this save netting him the award. Burnley equalised late in that game after Onana crashed into their player while going up to collect an aerial ball, resulting in a penalty. It continued the theme of United collapsing late in games after leading and dropping points inexplicably. At least for Onana, his own form has generally been on an upward trend after a chastening start to his United career, particularly in the Champions League. Fans will hope that he takes these experiences of his debut season and gives the team a more solid base in his second year at the club. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? 10-man Spurs hold SuperSport to a frustrating draw
The game got off to the worst possible start for the Cape side who were reduced to 10-man after Gabriel Michael was shown a straight red card. 10-man Cape Town Spurs have kept their slim hopes of retaining their DStv Premiership status alive following a goalless draw against SuperSport United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday night. ALSO READ: OPINION: Ronwen Williams deserves the footballer of the season award The result takes them to 19 points after 28 games in the league. Spurs can only finish on 25 points if they win their remaining two games. The point might still not be enough for the Urban Warriors who will be relegated if 15th placed Richards Bay wins against Orlando Pirates on Saturday. The game got off to the worst possible start for the Cape side who were reduced to 10-man after Gabriel Michael was shown a straight red card for a desperate foul on Shandre Campbell who was through on goal in the 15th minute. Matsatsantsa a Pitori took control of proceedings from that point but failed to create clear-cut chances as Spurs sat deep in their own half. Ernst Middendorp’s men did well to keep United at bay as the game went into the break goalless. Stubborn Spurs It was more of the same in the second half with SuperSport seeing more of the ball against Spurs who were happy to play on the counter. The Tshwane-based team failed to find the breakthrough in a rather dull affair in Polokwane. Manchester Uniteds chances boosted as Mikel Arteta gives injury update ahead of Premier League clash Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United begin their tough gauntlet of end-of-season fixtures with a game at Old Trafford against Arsenal on Sunday. Mikel Arteta’s men are chasing Manchester City in the Premier League title race while United huff and puff to secure a European place next season. Not many are picking United as favourites for this one considering the polar opposite form of the two sides but Erik ten Hag’s men have shown an uncanny ability to turn up for the big games this season, just ask Liverpool. Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s injury update on his Arsenal squad for this game will be very well received at Old Trafford. Speaking to the press ahead of the game, Arteta confirmed that talisman Bukayo Saka is a doubt for the game. The England international was heavily strapped in training ahead of the game and when asked about his status for the United game, Arteta simply said it’s a waiting game. Arteta said: “A few doubts that tomorrow we can resolve with another training session. So we’ll have to see [about Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu]”. Saka has been ever-present for Arsenal this season with 16 goals and nine assists in the league alone making him one of the most prolific wide players in the league. He is in the running for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award for which Kobbie Mainoo has also been nominated. Considering he plays on the right and United haven’t had a natural left-back in what seems like ages, the absence couldn’t be more perfectly timed for Ten Hag’s needs. Tomiyasu also potentially absent from his right-back spot should also free Rashford, who likes to play against Arsenal, to play his game. With the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, and Marcus Rashford returning, United’s prospects of getting a result here are undoubtedly boosted by the injury news on both sides. The reigning champions of both the CAF Women’s Champions League and the Hollywoodbets Super League, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will face some of the top women’s football teams from across the globe, providing a thrilling opportunity to showcase their talent and skill on a new stage. Now entering its third edition, the Women’s Cup has become the pre-eminent women’s soccer invitational tournament, and this year will feature Atletico de Madrid, the Kobe women’s team from Japan, and hosts Kansas City Current alongside the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Team. This year’s ‘event’ tournament will take place over two ‘game days’ on August 14 and 17. Atletico de Madrid emerged as champions in the European edition of the Women’s Cup in 2023, while NJ/NY Gotham FC won the Latin American edition played this past February in Cali, Colombia. ‘Historic’ opportunity for the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies team are the first African club to be invited to the tournament, with this historic opportunity having been facilitated through the club’s consultancy partnership with world renowned agency Roc Nation Sports International. Welcoming the invitation to the tournament, the head coach of the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Team, Jerry Tshabalala, said: “For us to participate in the tournament is incredibly important as it will give us an opportunity to test ourselves against world-class opposition and it will give our players the platform to showcase their talent on a global stage.” This year’s Women’s Cup ‘event’ tournament will take place at the state-of-the-art CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, which was opened earlier this year as the first privately financed facility exclusively designed for a professional women’s soccer team. The venue can accommodate 11,000 spectators, and the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, known for their attacking style and dominant performances, are sure to be a fan favourite. Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe welcomed the announcement. “The Women’s Cup is a special event that showcases the women’s game, while also creating opportunities for the next generation of female athletes. Mamelodi Sundowns is a proudly African Football Club that values the important role that women’s sport plays in inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds. “We are very pleased to be part of the legacy of this event and look forward to testing our South African style of football against some of the best teams in the world.” Growing the global brand John P Reynal, the President and CEO of the Women’s Cup, said it was certainly an exciting moment to welcome an African club to the participants for 2024. “Our goal is to further expand and globalise the tournament, tapping into the remarkable growth of women’s soccer on an international scale. The addition of the highly-regarded Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies side is a perfect example of this. We can’t wait to see them take part later this year.”

Erik ten Hag gives further update on Mason Mounts injury after latest setback Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s alarmingly bad luck with injuries has turned a season of hope at the start into a running nightmare. There have been more than 60 cases of a player missing a game due to injury or illness and Erik ten Hag has been at pains to point that out as a mitigating factor for bad results. Just when the situation looks to be improving with one return, a couple of players replace them on the physio table. Something similar happened as Erik ten Hag talked to the press before the Arsenal game on May 12. He revealed that Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Scott McTominay have all returned to training, with the latter three likely to be involved. However, Mason Mount suffered another injury setback and has been ruled out of the game. Ten Hag has now given further updates on Mount’s situation, with it being bittersweet for the player. He said that Mount’s latest issue is “minor” and is only expected to keep him out for “a couple of days”. Ten Hag expects him to miss the game against Arsenal and the next one against Newcastle on Wednesday is likely to be avoided to so that he isn’t rushed back. That means he will be fit to play a part in United’s last league game of the season against Brighton, with the game acting as a warm-up to the all-important FA Cup final. He said: “It’s a minor issue. So he’s definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he’ll return. “Maybe Newcastle [next Wednesday] is too short but I think he can be available for Brighton [in our final match of the league season].” Mount made his first start after a long time against Crystal Palace and looked off the pace in a chastening 4-0 defeat in a campaign where he has never truly got going due to injuries. Unless there is a 180-degree change in fortunes next season, he is on an extremely worrying trend as another sunk cost by United in the transfer window. Sir Dave Brailsford wants a new training ground for Manchester United Man United News And Transfer News
1 INEOS are driving the winds of change at Manchester United with the top-level executives feeling the brunt of it so far. Mass changes have already been executed and with more marginal changes like ending the hybrid working atmosphere by a deadline coming soon, more are on the way. Old Trafford has also been addressed as a big pain point and talks over its redevelopment or relocation have started apace too. However, the wide-scale changes are not expected to stop at just the stadium and more buildings are under the scanner. As per Manchester Evening News, Sir Dave Brailsford, Sit Jim Ratcliffe’s right-hand man at INEOS, believes that United need to move from their existing training ground. The Carrington facility has been United’s training home for the last 24 years but as with every other thing under the Glazers, has been a victim of apathy. With United’s women’s team coming up and youth teams expanding, the belief is that Carrington has become far too condensed. During his wholesale audit of United’s operations, Brailsford has reportedly marked Carrington as “not fit for purpose as an elite sports base”. Sir Dave has reportedly impressed many with his audit and the fruits of that operation have already been set in place, with the likes of Jason Wilcox coming in. Moving from Carrington, however, will be much harder than appointing a technical director as the club already has a logistics nightmare on its hands. The offices are not big enough to accommodate everyone working from the office plus the stadium plans will take up time, money, and land too. Ultimately, INEOS’ work at United will be in the long-term so they might have to prioritise their list of work to be done. Currently, it looks like setting something in motion for Old Trafford could be first priority while Carrington trundles along till it is addressed. Casemiro dropped from Brazils Copa America squad in latest blow in wretched season Man United News And Transfer News
1 Hero of last season and an equally bigger fall from grace this year, that has been the story of many Manchester United players. However, arguably no player embodies that fall quite as drastically as Casemiro. The Brazilian has gone from being the “cement between the stones” to a walking disaster who is only in the team because there are no other options. His departure in the summer looks inevitable and finally, that wretched form has seen him pay the price internationally as well. Casemiro has been dropped from Brazil’s Copa America squad as his bad performances have caught up with him. The Brazilian has generally been a safe and tested lieutenant at the international scene regardless of what’s going on at the club level. However, with the emergence of other talented midfielders in that area, former United reject Andreas Pereira being one, he has finally been squeezed out. Official: The Brazil squad for the 2024 Copa America! pic.twitter.com/BLiJVB8Mv7 — Brasil Football (@BrasilEdition) May 10, 2024 Joining him on the sidelines is another United Brazilian who has struggled this season in Antony. Both players have fallen under the weight of expectation due to their price tag and perhaps have become symbols of a struggling club this season. Casemiro lurches from one disaster to another as his tired legs struggle to cover acres of space in midfield and recently reached the nadir of his United career in the defeat away to Crystal Palace. Antony, meanwhile, has drawn the ire of United fans for his lack of productivity combined with his theatrics and demeanour. From a United point of view, Casemiro being dropped can be an advantage as if they sell him, they’ll have the player available to go throughout the summer. In the case when they are not able to sell him, it would still be beneficial as he will finally get a whole summer off, maybe improving his form next season. Ranking Jurgen Klopps 9 seasons at Liverpool from best to worst Liverpool FC
Ranking Jurgen Klopps 9 seasons at Liverpool from best to worst Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp is about to reach the end of his ninth and final season as Liverpool FC manager, but which has been the best? Klopp has provided us with such special memories down the years, not least winning the Premier League and Champions League, and he will depart as a true Anfield great. Some seasons have been more enjoyable and trophy-laden than others, however, with disappointing spells also thrown in. Here are Klopp’s seasons at Liverpool ranked from best to worst.   1. Season 2018/19 – Let’s talk about six, baby! League finish: 2nd Points: 97 Champions League: Winners FA Cup: 3rd Round League Cup: 3rd Round A stunning season saw Liverpool not only win a sixth European Cup but also accumulate 97 points in a relentless Premier League title battle with Man City. This takes top spot, not only because it wasn’t Covid-affected, but because this was the best-performing team of the Klopp era. To not win the title with 97 points is cruel, but thankfully, Liverpool went all the way in the Champions League, including clinching an all-time great win over Barcelona. The final win over Tottenham was achieved in clinical, dogged fashion before some iconic on-pitch celebrations after the final whistle. This was the Reds at the absolute peak of their powers under Klopp. Best league win: Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool   2. Season 2019/20 – Champions at last League finish: 1st Points: 99 Champions League: Last 16 FA Cup: 5th Round League Cup: 5th Round Club World Cup: Winners Super Cup: Winners After 30 long years, Liverpool finally got their hands on another league title – but the manner of it was somewhat anti-climatic due to circumstances out of our control. Forget any nonsense talk of a ‘Covid title’, Liverpool were home and hosed by the time football was halted for a while, leading the rest by TWENTY-FIVE points on one occasion. Even if they’d have lost every match after lockdown, they still would have finished the season with a point more than Man City. Unbelievably, the Reds’ only dropped points in their first 27 league games came away to Man United, which remains an unfathomable statistic. We were all robbed of celebrating the title with the players, which will always be hard to stomach, but until the beginning of March, this was just as enjoyable as 2018/19, if not better. The quality and mentality of that Liverpool side were a match for any team in English football history. Best league win: Leicester 0-4 Liverpool   3. Season 2021/22 – A quadruple chase – 2 games from greatness League finish: 2nd Points: 92 Champions League: Runners-up FA Cup: Winners League Cup: Winners Liverpool came within touching distance of an unprecedented quadruple, but two trophies still represented an impressive season. It’s easy to forget that Klopp’s men looked jaded midway through the campaign, but the arrival of Luis Diaz gave them fresh impetus and they came so close to an outrageous achievement. Two penalty shootout wins over Chelsea in both domestic cup finals sealed glory, with Caoimhin Kelleher and Kostas Tsimikas the unlikely heroes. Sadly, Liverpool ran out of steam in the end, again being painfully pipped by City on the final day, and beaten by a Thibaut Courtois-inspired Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Still, what a ride it was. Best league win: Man United 0-5 Liverpool   4. Season 2017/18 – Delivering fun all the way to the final League finish: 4th Points: 75 Champions League: Runners-up FA Cup: 4th Round League Cup: 3rd Round The signing of Virgil van Dijk helped inspire Liverpool to the Champions League final in another season of huge progress. In terms of memories, 2017/18 provided us with some of the most special in history, mainly in the Champions League. Van Dijk joined halfway through the season and his impact was immediate – it doesn’t get much better than a debut goal against Everton! – helping Liverpool go all the way to a final. To beat arguably Pep Guardiola’s greatest-ever City team over two legs was an amazing effort, and the scenes in Italy after the semi-final triumph over Roma were special. Ultimately, Liverpool ran into Madrid once again in Kyiv, and Loris Karius produced one of the worst performances in a big game, but it was still a thrilling campaign. Best league win: Liverpool 4-3 Man City   5. Season 2015/16 – Klopp’s promising first season League finish: 8th Points: 60 Europa League: Runners-up FA Cup: 4th Round League Cup: Runners-up A campaign that started so badly under Brendan Rodgers eventually saw Klopp arrive and show immediately why he would grow into a legend. The appointment of the German in October 2015 will forever be a seismic moment in Liverpool’s history, and from that first game at Tottenham, you felt something special was brewing. It was far from perfect in, but there were high-octane victories away to the likes of Chelsea, Man City, and perhaps most memorably, Norwich. Gegenpressing, heavy metal football had Arrived and we’d all strapped in for the ride! There was also the small matter of Klopp reaching the finals of both the League Cup and Europa League in his first half-season. There was the unforgettable 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund – one the best nights Anfield has ever witnessed. Best league win: Norwich 4-5 Liverpool   6. Season 2016/17 – Champions League qualification League finish: 4th Points: 76 FA Cup: 4th Round League Cup: Semi-final Having featured in the competition only once since 2010/11, Klopp inspired Liverpool back into the Champions League. In Klopp’s first full season in charge, he delivered the primary objective of getting back into Europe’s top club competition. At one point until January, Liverpool were in a title race with Chelsea, but star signing Sadio Mane‘s absence at the Africa Cup of Nations saw that dream slowly fade. In the end, a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on the final day sealed fourth place – how important did Gini Wijnaldum‘s opener feel? – and the Reds were back where they belonged. A great achievement by Klopp so soon after coming in. Best league win: Arsenal 3-4 Liverpool   7. Season 2023/24 – Disappointing end to Klopp’s reign League finish: TBC Points: TBC Europa League: Quarter-final FA Cup: Quarter-final League Cup: Winners A season that threatened so much has fizzled out, but Klopp will leave Liverpool in a strong position and as a legend. Few expected a Premier League title charge, with Champions League qualification and Europa League glory the primary objectives. Grinding out results, Klopp and his players got themselves into a three-way title battle, raising our hopes, but poor finishing and patchy performances put pay to that. The League Cup win was great, but we all dreamed of Klopp bowing out in the most memorable way imaginable with league and Europa glory. Many would have taken third place originally, but greater things were teased, which has made this drop-off so much harder to take. Best league win: Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool   8. Season 2020/21 – Fake football & injuries galore League finish: 3rd Points: 69 Champions League: Last 16 FA Cup: 4th Round League Cup: 4th Round In what was the true Covid season, Liverpool started promisingly but ended up dogged by injuries and affected by no fans in stadiums. Can anyone watch back highlights from the 2020/21 season and not feel flat? Eery, empty grounds made for lifeless matches, and while Liverpool were in a great position to win back-to-back titles around Christmas, they fell away. Van Dijk’s injury at Everton was a massive moment, but endless other players were also out for large periods, and Liverpool had to limp their way into the Champions League. In fairness, third place was a good effort in the end, given the absentees, but it was hard to enjoy any of the action. Six Anfield losses in a row in the league would never happen with supporters in the ground. Best league win: Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool   9. Season 2022/23 – Legs go & lowest points total League finish: 5th Points: 67 Champions League: Last 16 FA Cup: 4th Round League Cup: 4th Round The 2020/21 season has obvious reasons for being depressing, it was the most soul-destroying of Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool. After the joys of 2021/22 and so nearly winning the quadruple, more brilliance was expected in the following campaign. Instead, it quickly became apparent that Liverpool’s legs had gone, not least in midfield, where Fabinho and Jordan Henderson toiled. There were so many humbling defeats, including at Brighton and Wolves, and fifth place was all the Reds deserved as Klopp got his lowest total of 67 points for a full season. There was still time to beat Man United in a 7-0 humiliation, though. Best league win: Liverpool 7-0 Man United Let us know your rankings in the comments section below!

Xavi Simons turned down Man United after the club agreed 60 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United hardly had a sniff against Crystal Palace as they surrendered 0-4 to Crystal Palace in their Premier League game at Selhurst Park on Monday. Rasmus Hojlund hardly got any service and without Bruno Fernandes, the entire attack looked devoid of any sort of creativity as the young Dane struggled to hold the ball up. Antony has been a massive disappointment while Anthony Martial is expected to depart in the summer while Marcus Rashford’s future remains up in the air. United could have done with some more creativity up front as Jadon Sancho had a fall-out with manager Erik ten Hag while the club looks set to sell both the winger and Mason Greenwood in the summer. Help needed up front The Dutch boss never wanted to overburden the former Atalanta starlet in his debut season and asked for reinforcements last summer as well as in January. Nothing was forthcoming. One player the Red Devils had targeted was Xavi Simons of Paris Saint-Germain after he excelled for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie. He scored 22 times while assisting another 12 goals for the Dutch side, finishing as top scorer in the league as his team narrowly missed out on the title. This resurgence in form prompted the French giants to exercise their buyback clause in a bid to earn a major amount from his sale. Simons’ versatility – he can play up front or on the wings and even as the No 10, coupled with his excellent technical skills, creativity and hardworking nature made him a standout target for the 20-time English league champions. However, as Bild (via Sport Witness) have now revealed, the Ligue 1 giants had “already agreed a deal” worth €60 million for the Netherlands international only for the 21-year-old to turn down the move to the Theatre of Dreams. Simons turned United down PSG, subsequently, decided to loan out Simons to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig where he has continued in a similar vein, scoring nine goals and providing 15 assists. The former Barcelona youth product is the third-highest goalscorer for his team while he also has the second-most assists in the German league this season with Leipzig all set to return to the Champions League next season. Leipzig are desperately trying to hold on to him while his former club Barca are also tempted. Whether United return to the mix remains to be seen. Simons’ market value stands at a whopping €80 million as per Transfermarkt with his PSG contract valid until 2027. It will take quite the bid to land the attacker on a permanent deal. Two of Jurgen Klopp‘s player were not seen in training on Friday, and the club’s former sporting director is to return, but not directly to Liverpool.   Julian Ward returns for FSG The club’s hierarchy and that of owners FSG continues to develop with news that Ward, who left his role as sporting director in 2023, is to return as a technical director. National outlets such as the Telegraph, Mail and the Echo all report that Ward has been persuaded back by FSG’s new CEO of Football, Michael Edwards. Julian Ward returns to Liverpool! Transfer chief joins Michael Edwards FSG setup Liverpool FC
Julian Ward, who succeeded Michael Edwards as sporting director at Liverpool before departing in 2023, is now back as technical director for FSG. Liverpool’s off-field reshape has continued following the appointment of Edwards as CEO of football for Fenway Sports Group, with another former Liverpool chief rehired. Ward, who served as assistant to Edwards and then his successor in the role of sporting director, has now joined FSG as technical director. The news was widely reported by the Merseyside press on Friday evening, with FSG also appointing Benfica’s Pedro Marques as director of football development. While neither of these appointments will work directly for Liverpool, their roles will certainly overlap with plans at Anfield. Ward’s return comes a year after he vacated his position as sporting director at Liverpool – a role he only officially held for 12 months. He was credited as the driving force behind the signings of Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. His contacts also played a key role in deals for Diogo Jota, Fabinho and Fabio Carvalho, while he pushed through Mohamed Salah‘s contract extension back in 2022. Both Ward and Marques – who is currently serving as technical director for Benfica – will begin work as part of FSG on June 1. Part of their duties will be in expanding FSG’s portfolio with the purchase of another club, with Marques expected to be heavily involved in that venture. Liverpool have already confirmed the appointment of Richard Hughes as their new sporting director, and he will be assisted by David Woodfine, who returns to the club having previously served as director of loan management. Feyenoord’s Arne Slot will be announced as new head coach at the end of the season.

25-man Liverpool squad trains for Aston Villa no Andy Robertson or Diogo Jota? Liverpool FC
There was no sign of either Andy Robertson or Diogo Jota as Liverpool worked at the AXA Training Centre on Friday, with a 25-man squad pictured in training. The Reds will have had a full week between fixtures by the time they kick off at Aston Villa, with their penultimate game of the season not until Monday night. Klopp afforded his players time off in the week to recharge, before preparations resumed, with the manager holding his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of training. There were no questions on the fitness of his squad, and it appears as though Jota is still not back from the hip injury picked up against Fulham last month. Robertson was not spotted with the 25-man group either, leading to speculation that Kostas Tsimikas – who is back after missing the squad to face Tottenham last weekend – could start at Villa Park. There were no new injuries nor a return for the likes of Thiago, Joel Matip or Ben Doak, who have been sidelined for months. Darwin Nunez was all smiles as he returned to Merseyside following a break at Disneyland, with Klopp dismissing rumours over a summer exit. “It’s really tough for a young man. He knows about the expectations, he has big expectations for himself,” he told reporters. “He has to go through it. It’s part of a footballer’s career. That’s all. “His problem is that he is that good that he is constantly in these moments. If he is a little bit less good, he couldn’t have chances then people would say he’s not great.” There was a strong contingent of youngsters involved, with regulars Stefan Bajcetic and Conor Bradley joined by James McConnell, Kaide Gordon and Trey Nyoni. This is despite Liverpool U21s travelling to Tottenham for their quarter-final in the league playoffs on Sunday. Liverpool squad pictured in training on Friday Goalkeepers: Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian, Mrozek Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate, Quansah, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Tsimikas, Bradley Midfielders: Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Elliott, Jones, Endo, Gravenberch, Bajcetic, McConnell, Nyoni Forwards: Salah, Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez, Gordon Absent? Alissons season extended with place in Brazils Copa America squad Liverpool FC
Alissons season extended with place in Brazils Copa America squad Liverpool FC
Alisson will have a busy summer after being named in the Brazil squad seeking Copa America glory for the second time in five years. Liverpool’s No. 1 spent a lot of time on the sidelines this season, missing 17 games through injury or illness – his longest spell out since 2019/20. And his season will not come to an end on May 19 as he will jet off to the United States to compete in the Copa America with Brazil – he will report for duty on May 30. Alisson was named in the 23-man squad by Dorival Junior, the Selecao’s new head coach, who was appointed in January after interim coach Fernando Diniz was sacked. Having started six games on the bench under Diniz, Dorival is unlikely to overlook the world’s leading goalkeeper in his starting XI this summer, despite also having Man City‘s Ederson. Brazil will play two friendlies before the tournament, against Mexico (June 9) and USA (June 13). Brazil will play a minimum of three games in the group stage – against Luis Diaz‘s Colombia, Paraguay and Costa Rica – and a run to the final or third place play-off would result in a maximum six games. The competition runs from June 20 to July 14, and with at least a three-week break for all players this summer, Alisson is expected to be a late arrival for pre-season. The Reds’ first official pre-season match is scheduled for July 26 in Pittsburgh, against Real Betis, but incoming manager Arne Slot will have already assembled members of the team for training. Alisson will not be the only player to report late, with up to 16 Reds potentially involved in the Euros and Copa America this summer – though their respective progress will determine return dates. The 31-year-old won the Copa America back in 2019, and all we can hope for is that he returns to the club fit and healthy ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Ronwen Williams deserves the footballer of the season award
Ronwen Williams deserves the footballer of the season award
Ronwen Williams has been outstanding for Mamelodi Sundowns this season and probably deserves the individual award. It’s that time of the season where the conversation over who deserves to be crowned the new PSL Footballer of the Season is starting to pick up steam. A few names have been thrown around on social media. As expected, fans tend to be biased and look at players from their favourite teams when debating who should be the footballer of the season. ALSO READ: Tau, Ellis and Sundowns win big at Cosafa Awards Fortunately, the prestigious award is voted for by the 16 DStv Premiership head coaches who are not allowed to nominate or vote for players from their own teams. The criteria is straightforward, the individual needs to have done exceptionally well in the league and all domestic cup competitions. As with most things, expect fans to be divided when the PSL reveals the nominees for the coveted prize. In my opinion, Ronwen Williams has been outstanding for Mamelodi Sundowns this season and probably deserves the individual award. The Brazilians might have lost the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates but what counts in Williams’ favour is that he has already won the league. No one can argue that the league championship is without a doubt the toughest trophy to win. There’s no luck involved in winning the league because it’s a 30-game marathon where you play your opponents home and away. The same can’t be said about cup competitions. We have seen in the past teams reach cup finals only to be relegated at the end of the season. To put Williams’ league form into context, in 19 league games, the Sundowns goalkeeper has only conceded six goals and kept 14 clean sheets. He has five games left to match his record of 18 clean sheets from the previous season. Earlier in this campaign, the 32-year-old went for nine consecutive games without being breached to set Sundowns on their way to what has so far been a record-breaking season for the South African champions. ALSO READ: Sundowns’ Mokwena excited to see hero Guardiola at Club World Cup Not only is Williams a safe pair of hands whenever he’s called upon, he is also a ball playing goalkeeper who starts off his team’s attacks. A lot of Sundowns’ build-up play goes through the calm shot stopper who also has an accurate right foot and can pick out a pass even under pressure. In fact, he is probably Masandawana’s secret weapon and gives them an extra man on the field with his bravery with the ball at his feet. You’d be hard pressed to find another goalkeeper in the PSL with his abilities.   No arguments The former SuperSport United man will also contest the Nedbank Cup final against Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium on June 1. Should he help the Tshwane giants lift the season-ending competition, there can be no arguments on who deserves to unseat Teboho Mokoena as the new king of South African football at the end of the season. ALSO READ: Mokoena and Sundowns reach deadlock in contract talks – report There are honourable mentions such as Iqraam Rayners Stellenbosch and Patrick Maswanganyi of the Buccaneers who have also raised their game to new heights this season. Lucas Ribeiro has also been outstanding in his maiden season in the PSL.

Thomas Tuchel could serve European ban which might affect INEOS decision to appoint the German at Manchester United Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s disappointing season has left Erik ten Hag fighting for his position at Old Trafford. The Dutchman is under huge pressure at the club after an awful league campaign and an embarrassing early exit from Europe. A raft of names have been linked to replace the 54-year-old, with outgoing Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel a frontrunner for the hot seat. However, as reported by The Sun, the German coach could soon be served with a touchline ban from European competitions which could potentially harm his chances of arriving at Old Trafford. The Bayern boss could be charged for his outburst following Bayern’s controversial semi-final exit from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid on Wednesday. Bayern had a last-gasp equaliser disallowed by a hasty flag from the lineman which denied Tuchel’s men a chance at extra-time, a decision the former Chelsea boss said “felt like a betrayal”. Tuchel did not stop his onslaught at the match officials in his post-match conference either, claiming the decision “would not have happened on the other side”. To question the integrity of the officials will not go down well with UEFA who could now step in and levy a harsh punishment on the 50-year-old. A decision is likely to be made next week and Tuchel will be hoping the fact the referee and linesman admitted they made an error will go in his favour. However, Should Tuchel get hit with a touchline ban, it will mean he could miss multiple games from the sidelines next year. INEOS will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the situation with Tuchel the bookies favourite to take over in the summer. This being said, United still have a lot of work to do in order to qualify for Europe next season with Ten Hag’s men needing points from three tricky looking league fixtures. A bad end to the season could be compounded by defeat in the FA Cup final which would surely see the end of Ten Hag’s reign in Manchester. Tuchel looks the outstanding candidate despite INEOS’ strange flirtation with Gareth Southgate and United fans seem to be in favour of a change in the dugout. United entertain title-chasing Arsenal at the weekend. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? VAR implementation in the PSL imminent!
VAR implementation in the PSL imminent!
It’s been long time coming but the implementation of VAR in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) is closer than we could imagine. And that’s the assurance by SAFA Chairperson of the National Referees Committee (NRC) and former FIFA referee Victor Gomes. Gomes was speaking to the media, according to SABC Sport, at the COSAFA awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Thursday night. According to Gomes, VAR will be introduced to South African football in the next few weeks if not months. Gomes had previously hinted at plans to use VAR at this year’s Nedbank Cup final but if that doesn’t happen, chances are it will be used next season. He admitted that there is a lot of work that needs to be done behind the scenes for the implementation and training of VAR. However, the one thing that the team is finalising is the budgets, and Gomes reckons all will be sorted in the next two weeks. The latest developments will come as a huge relief to the majority of fans whose teams have suffered due to refereeing mistakes in recent years. Referees have also been suspended for their costly mistakes that left the majority of teams and fans crying. “We had a meeting recently and I know that it’s on the way now. Now, we are progressing very fast. Now, we’re sitting for some budgetary cost in the next two weeks, and that’s how far we are,” said Gomes. GOMES ADMITS SA IS NOT READY Furthermore, Gomes made an honest admission that South Africa isn’t ready for VAR as there is still a lot of work to do. The first step after finalising budgetary costs is to train those who will be in charge of VAR as to how it works before anything else can be done. However, Gomes assured football fans that VAR is here to stay, adding that they don’t want to rush it and ended up making more refereeing mistakes. “VAR is the future of football, it will help the PSL and any other league in the world. VAR is here to stay, excellent question – no, we are not ready but it is a process, we are ready to start training. “What we want to do, we don’t want to rush something and get it wrong. We want to bring it in and do it correctly, so that everyone can trust it,” added Gomes.

INEOS orders fresh investigation into Erik ten Hags training regimen to try and understand injury mess Man United News And Transfer News
INEOS orders fresh investigation into Erik ten Hags training regimen to try and understand injury mess Man United News And Transfer News
1 It has been a dismal season for Manchester United on the field with the club languishing in eighth place in the Premier League table. While manager Erik ten Hag’s tactics are partly to blame for this mess, the injury crisis is another major contributing factor with the team suffering 60 separate cases of injury or illness this season. When INEOS came on board, they ordered an internal audit to find out the reason behind such an alarming rise but things have just gotten worse during the business-end of the campaign. Harry Maguire was sidelined for three weeks while skipper Bruno Fernandes missed his first-ever game due to injury since moving to Old Trafford, the 0-4 drubbing at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday. Injuries galore Currently, the entire first-choice backline is out of commission, which has meant the Dutchman has had to reshuffle his pack constantly and that has not helped the team settle down. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is incensed with the situation and as per The Daily Star, he has ordered a “root-and-branch” investigation into the problem. With the British billionaire hoping to guide the club back to the top of the English footballing pyramid, he is keen to get to the bottom of this mess. He has handed the responsibility to Sir Dave Brailsford, who will monitor the manager’s training sessions to understand the workload being put on the players before games. Players have complained about the intensity of training including the constant running and INEOS will pay heed to those warnings and conduct a thorough investigation. Another audit on the cards “Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants a fresh investigation into what has caused the injury crisis at Manchester United this season “He believes more can be done to prevent injuries from happening – and will commission a ‘root-and-branch’ investigation into the problem that will involve INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford. “This will include scrutinising Ten Hag’s training methods, schedules and how intense his sessions have been. “The running distances of the players will also be looked into, along with data relating to how much pressure is put on them before, during and after matches.” While the manager’s methods will be evaluated, player power remains rampant at the club which the Glazers have allowed to fester and already reports have emerged which state that the players have no motivation left and are set to lose all remaining games. Lot to figure out for INEOS Players taking the easy way out needs to be investigated as well while the club’s focus on commercial activities saw the team travel throughout USA and Europe during pre-season, which players spoke out against. There is also a question mark surrounding the medical department which has not spotted injuries in time or have not thoroughly analysed injuries, leading to more mishaps. The congested international calendar is another issue with the players playing in a winter World Cup in 2022, and are set to play in the Euros and Copa America this summer. A lot of things to figure out for INEOS quite soon in their regime and the size of the task they have taken on is slowly dawning on them. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Jordan Henderson could be SOLD after less than 6 months at Ajax Liverpool FC
Jordan Henderson could be SOLD after less than 6 months at Ajax Liverpool FC
Jordan Henderson‘s time at Ajax could be forced to an early end, with the Dutch club expected to consider selling the midfielder following a miserable season. Henderson joined Ajax on a free transfer in the middle of January, terminating his deal with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq early. It ended a controversial spell in the Middle East, with many Liverpool supporters of the opinion their former captain burned bridges by opting to join the Saudi Pro League. And while he has settled into a regular role at Ajax and even worn the captain’s armband, Henderson has a strong chance of moving again this summer. This comes with Ajax failing to qualify for the Champions League for next season – and potentially missing out on the Europa League too. The Athletic‘s David Ornstein and Dutch publication Voetbal International both report that Ajax could be forced to sell their highest earners. “Financial problems at the Johan Cruyff Arena mean that [Henderson and Steven Bergwijn] are among those facing an uncertain outlook,” Ornstein writes. While there is “no specific desire” to sell either player “or vice versa,” it is explained that, with Ajax relying on prize money from Europe, “these steps must be considered in a bid to help balance the books.” Henderson is reported to earn £85,000 per week at Ajax, rising to £110,000 a week with bonuses, which eclipsed that of previous highest earner Bergwijn who is on £76,000 per week. Interestingly, Ornstein adds: “There is also a feeling that prominent players including Henderson and Bergwijn…were enticed by a project which is yet to show signs of materialising during a turbulent period.” The highest Ajax can finish in this season’s Eredivisie is fifth, which would only earn them a Europa League qualifier, while spots six to nine contest playoffs for a place in the Europa Conference League. It is a far cry from expectations in Amsterdam, with Ajax viewed as perennial title-challengers and lifting the trophy as recently as 2021/22. If Henderson is to be sold, it remains to be seen whether a move back to England would be on the cards, or if further interest would emerge in Europe. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus were all linked when his decision to leave Saudi Arabia early was reported, though Leverkusen denied any interest. The 33-year-old has played 10 times for Ajax so far, including both legs of the Europa Conference League last 16 defeat to Aston Villa.

Jurgen Klopp reveals talks with Cody Gakpo that transformed Liverpool role Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp has lavished praised upon Cody Gakpo following a return to form that he credits to honest talks between the pair. The Dutchman was among the Reds’ standout performers in last weekend’s 4-2 win over Tottenham, providing a goal and an assist to take his season’s tally for those measures to 15 and six respectively. However, those impressive numbers have come about despite Gakpo suffering a notable mid-season dip in form that saw him struggle to influence games. And Klopp has now opened up on the discussions that helped end that poor run, hinting that positional issues and aggressiveness were the main topics. He said: “Cody, he knows that he was, for a while, not in his best moment. “We had a conversation there, obviously not for public what we spoke about there, but it helped him a lot. We could sort it a little bit. “It’s just the problem, can I speak in the first moment a player is not performing anymore to the levels you expect them to do? “You can, but how can I have an answer for his situation if I don’t understand it? So we have to try to look a bit longer into it, wait for a specific moment when I can give answers. “Maybe that took too long for me as well, that’s maybe the case. But after that talk he really stepped up. “It’s really good to see how physically strong he is, how good a footballer he is. He can play left wing especially and centre. “Smart again, full of confidence, physical strength, good moment. Good for him, good for us.”

R9 million midfielder heading out of Naturena?
R9 million midfielder heading out of Naturena?
This talented midfielder is unhappy with his lack of game time at Kaizer Chiefs. In fact, he has hinted at a possible exit. With the DStv Premiership coming to a close in a couple of weeks, players and coaches alike have to decide on their futures. Furthermore, big changes are inevitable at Chiefs given their current struggles and the inevitable changes on the cards. Amakhosi will be hiring a new coach on a permanent basis. Meaning, he will essentially have a say in the future of several stars. However, in this case it is more about how the player feels and how management responds. CHIEFS MIDFIELDER UNHAPPY Edson Castillo is dissatisfied with his lack of regular playing time. Furthermore, there is interest from sides in the Middle East, according to KickOff. Castillo has only started four of the last 10 games for the Soweto Giants which could jeopardize his chances of playing for the national team. Additionally, he has failed to score in his last fourteen club appearances. Therefore, he is faced with the decision of leaving Chiefs in order to pursue his national career. With the Copa America around the corner and offers lurking, there is a strong chance that he could leave. NEW COACH TO HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON FUTURE PLAYERS Whoever is appointed as the new coach will have the final say on several players. In most cases, he will decide on who to keep and let go as he builds his squad for next season. In this case, he needs to consider his future now. Therefore, a decision could be made sooner depending on how management respond to his concerns. It must be noted, that they are aware of other offers and that he is unhappy at the club. Perhaps, his recent lack of gametime is an indication of what is to come.

Aston Villa hopes crushed before Liverpool clash 8 players currently injured Liverpool FC
Aston Villa hopes crushed before Liverpool clash 8 players currently injured Liverpool FC
Aston Villa were dealt a bitter blow days before the visit of Liverpool on Monday night, as they exited the Europa Conference League at the semi-final stage. It has been a pivotal week for Villa, who travelled to Olympiakos for the second leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final on Thursday. Unfortunately, the only English side left in European competition were brutally knocked out, losing 2-0 in Greece to endure a 6-2 aggregate defeat. They did so without eight players due to injury, with Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans, Emi Buendia, Nicolo Zaniolo, Jacob Ramsey, Alex Moreno and Morgan Rogers all out. Speaking after the loss to Olympiakos, Unai Emery provided an update on three of those players, with Moreno and Tielemans potentially returning against Liverpool. “Each day is going to be very important because some players have small injuries,” the manager told reporters including the Birmingham Mail. “Some are having small pain and there is no date when they can come back, like Zaniolo. “He is close but is not comfortable with his pain. Hopefully he can progress in the next days. “Tielemans is close, Alex Moreno will need a few days and maybe could be available [vs. Liverpool].” The situation forced Emery to switch formations against Olympiakos, ditching his usual four-man defence for a back five with centre-backs Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres and Diego Carlos all starting. Youngsters Finley Munroe, 19, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, 21, Tim Iroegbunam, 20, Omari Kellyman, 18, and Jhon Duran, 20, all came off the bench. Clement Lenglet, another centre-back, was the only experienced outfielder in reserve, though six-goal striker Duran has been a regular throughout the season. If things don’t improve for the likes of Tielemans and Moreno, then, it could be a bare-bones squad that hosts Liverpool at Villa Park. There will be little scope for changes either way, with Villa at least afforded an extra day to prepare in a fairly comfortable turnaround between Thursday and Monday. Jurgen Klopp was not asked on the fitness of his squad during his press conference on Friday, with it unclear if there are any new issues or if Diogo Jota is back fit. Predicted Aston Villa XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Luiz, Tielemans; Diaby, McGinn, Bailey; Watkins

Roy Keane says Casemiro must not play as a centre-back after Crystal Palace horror show Man United News And Transfer News
Roy Keane says Casemiro must not play as a centre-back after Crystal Palace horror show Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s long list of injuries have caused Erik ten Hag major headaches throughout his difficult second campaign at Old Trafford. Ten Hag has had to deal with a wafer-thin squad for the majority of the season, with his back line in particular hit hard with absentees. So much so that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has had to step in at centre-back in recent weeks and the former Real Madrid man has struggled badly as a result. He put in a disastrous display in the recent 0-4 annihilation at Crystal Palace was his worst game in a United shirt and he simply cannot continue in that position. Former United skipper Roy Keane has weighed in on the stark decline in Casemiro’s form and insists he shouldn’t have started in the centre of defence against Palace. Speaking on Gary Neville’s Stick to Football podcast, Keane feels a youth team player should have been chosen over the Brazilian. “Of all the players at Manchester United, including the reserves and youth team, if there was one player I wouldn’t play at centre-half against Crystal Palace, he’d be the one,” said Keane. Keane added that he thought Casemiro would be in for a “tough night” given the atmosphere at Selhurst Park and the strong recent form of Oliver Glasner’s side but the five-time Champions League caused his own issues. “He was isolated by his own fault, because he wasn’t getting people around him, and you have to take responsibility for that,” he said. Keane did admit that Ten Hag’s tactics didn’t help the 32-year-old on the night with the team desperately lacking in structure for many weeks now. “But if we’re talking about it being a team game, structure-this and structure-that, playing between the lines. “That’s all well and good but when you’re up against it, you need your teammates around you. There’s the whole idea of playing in a team,” Keane concluded. United need points from their three remaining Premier League games if they are to qualify for any of the European competitions next season and also need to find some form before the FA Cup final at the end of the month. However, the trio of league fixtures look testing for United with Arsenal and Newcastle visiting Old Trafford before a trip to Brighton, which hasn’t been a happy hunting ground in recent years. If Casemiro is deployed in the central defensive position in those games, he would surely be targeted by the opposition who know the Brazilian’s legs have gone. It’s difficult to make a case for United winning any of their remaining games with Casemiro at the back and Ten Hag will be desperate for Lisandro Martinez to prove his fitness before the all-important final against Manchester City. The Argentine is back in training but after being rushed back too quickly already this year, Ten Hag will want to manage his number one centre-back accordingly. Khune urged to continue playing elsewhere if he leaves Chiefs
“For me, I think Khune still has the quality to offer,” said Shongwe. Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe believes Itumeleng Khune still has a lot to offer the game. ALSO READ: Mokoena and Sundowns reach deadlock in contract talks Khune’s contract with Chiefs is set to expire in June and Amakhosi have already indicated that this will be his last contract as a player at the club. But the former Bafana Bafana has often said that he still has a season or two left in him. Shongwe also believes that Khune can still play for more years and has advised the 36-year-old shot-stopper to join another club if Chiefs decide not to renew his contract. “For me, I think Khune still has the quality to offer,” Shongwe told FARPost. “Some goalkeepers play until they are 40 internationally, that’s the case. As Khune was, if he has an opportunity, I will say, ‘Go, go prove yourself with another team. If Chiefs are dropping you, maybe you’re not good enough, go play somewhere and see what happens’. Khune has to prove himself elsewhere Shongwe admits that Khune will again have to prove himself at a different club because he has not played that much and his form had dropped before he lost his place to Bruce Bvuma at Chiefs. “It’s not a doubt; with his ability, you expect him to save the team. I think performance also speaks volumes; in the case of Khune, there were times when he didn’t perform as expected. “As a player, you set a benchmark for yourself, people will judge you on that. Anything else is considered poor; that’s the situation Khune finds himself in. Now, he has to prove himself, play against himself, unfortunately that has never happened,” concluded Shongwe. ALSO READ: Chiefs face more defensive problems against AmaZulu Chiefs are said to have already started the search for Khune’s replacement. Richards Bay Salim Magoola and Stanley Nwabali have been mentioned as possible replacements for the veteran goalkeeper. Amakhosi are also believed to have widened their search for a goalkeeper to the rest of the continent.

Erik ten Hag says Marcus Rashford Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay are all back for Arsenal clash Man United News And Transfer News
1 Erik ten Hag finally has some good news ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League tie against Arsenal on Sunday. Ten Hag was asked for an injury update during the pre-match press conference and said that Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford are back in training and could play against Arsenal on Sunday. He said: “Bruno was on the pitch and Scott McTominay was on the pitch, so there are some players returning. “Rashy, of course, he trained this morning as well, and we have to see how he recovered from this. But I think it looks quite good and I hope he can tomorrow make the next training and then see if he is available for Sunday.” Mason Mount has picked up another injury and won’t play. He also said he still hopes that Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw could return for the FA Cup final. Asked about Mount, he said: “It’s not that I am not happy with Mason. He is also a very robust player, you see in his profile. In the last four seasons before this, he only had a small issue in the end of his Chelsea career. He’s had very bad luck and he’s a really good player. We’ve really missed him this season.” The manager also said “Luke Shaw had a setback in his process as well but there is still a hope and he will fight to be available for the final.” Martinez asked to play against Arsenal but it was judged to be too soon. “Yesterday, Licha came to me and wanted to play on Sunday against Arsenal but he’s not ready yet, he needs a little bit more time to go through the process. “He is desperate to play. The team has missed him. He wants to play but has had three injuries across the season. He’s injury free now and has to get back into the team.” There was also a question about whether he felt he should get a vote of confidence from the owners, given the pressure he is under. “You have to ask this question to the owners not to me,” he said. “It’s my job and I take responsibility to speak to you. I don’t care if they do or don’t, I keep working to improve my team.” Asked whether he was concerned for his job after fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal was sacked by United after winning the FA Cup, he said: “No, I think they have common sense. They have seen you have 32 different backlines, when you lose eight CB’s, when we see we don’t have a left back, they know that will have a negative impact.” Speaking about the travelling fans’ reaction after the 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, Ten Hag remarked: “They were our example on Monday. They backed us. They see how we struggle. They see the problems we have and have a good understanding about the injuries we have, but they keep backing the team. I’m very happy with them.” “We are still fighting, and it’s a huge FA Cup final. We are still there. It can be a highlight of the season, but we know why we are under-performing. I am a realistic person, I see this, I analyse, and no team will perform with these injuries.” Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Kaizer Chiefs make U-turn on Keagan Dollys future?
Kaizer Chiefs make U-turn on Keagan Dollys future?
Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made a decision on Keagan Dolly’s future as his current contract with the club expires in June. Previous reports in the media had suggested that Dolly may have played his last game for Chiefs as he was set to leave. And that’s because of his long-term injuries coupled with below-par performances since joining Chiefs in a sensational move. Dolly is in his third season with Amakhosi having arrived as a free agent following his departure from French However, according to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have made a U-turn on Dolly, and the midfielder looks set to stay at Naturena beyond June. Sources known to the publication claim that the Chiefs hierarchy assessed Dolly based on his previous two seasons and didn’t focus on the current campaign. Dolly ha featured just seven times in the league for Chiefs this season due to a long-term knee injury he suffered at the start of the campaign. KAIZER CHIEFS TO KEEP KEAGAN DOLLY? “His chances of staying at the club and extending his contract are almost 90% as things stand,” claimed one source. “What the club has said is that they have looked at his past two seasons and how he performed, compared to the seven games he has played this season due to injury. “That’s what they are basing their decision on.” The source further claimed that Chiefs are looking to keep at least three senior players ahead of what is expected to be a squad overhaul. “The club wants to have at least two or three senior players but those talks are ongoing,” concluded the source. HOW ARE DOLLY’S STATS AT AMAKHOSI? The 31-year-old attacker has featured in eight competitive matches for Chiefs this season, and has yet to score while he’s grabbed a single assist. But since his arrival at Chiefs, Dolly has netted 14 times and provided 11 assists in 64 competitive matches, according to Transfermarkt.
