Euro clubs queue up for Orlando Pirates star; HUGE CAF boost?
Orlando Pirates will be fending off offers from around the globe for several of their top-performing stars this season. Mofokeng wanted in Austria, Scotland and Egypt Relebohile Mofokeng has been a revelation for Pirates this season, excelling off the left-hand side of an attacking midfield trio behind Tshegofatso Mabasa. Originally a number 10, he’s shown his technical level and ability to adapt in spades. This form has alerted some big European suitors. “Reports from Scouts in Attendance claim Rangers are one of several European teams interested in Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng,” Rangers Review reported. “They report that the Ibrox club are keeping tabs on the emerging talent, aged 19. He has already caught the eye of clubs in England. He had a trial at Premier League side Wolves before being offered the chance to impress at Reading. “Al-Ahly and Red Bull Salzburg are among the other clubs who hold an interest,” the report added about the Bucs youngster. Bookings against Richards Bay at the weekend would earn them an automatic suspension. Meanwhile, Thalente Mbatha will miss the Richards Bay clash after his yellow card in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Chippa. PIRATES GOING FOR THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE The Buccaneers have become cup specialists under Jose Riveiro. They’ve won consecutive MTN8 crowns and are just a single match away from making it a double-double by scooping Nedbank Cup glory in 2024. The Sea Robbers face stern competition from an impressive Stellenbosch team in the race for CAF Champions Leaguw qualification. Stellies lead Pirates by just a single point with three matches to play in the DStv Premiership season. Stellies could only manage a goalless draw with AmaZulu while Tshegofatso Mabasa’s incredible goal-scoring antics for Pirates continued. The red-hot 27-year-old bagged a brace to steer the Sea Robbers to a 2-0 win over Chippa. Mabasa is now the leading marksman in the division with 15 strikes. Jurgen Klopp in another 5-way battle for Premier League Manager of the Season Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp in another 5-way battle for Premier League Manager of the Season Liverpool FC
In his final Premier League season, Jurgen Klopp has been nominated for the Manager of the Season award, with four others joining him on the shortlist. Reds fans had all hoped it would be a golden exit for Klopp and a chance to finally celebrate a league title in front of a full stadium, but it was not meant to be. Liverpool 2.0 were ahead of schedule as they firmly planted themselves in the title race, but they faded at the death to leave Man City and Arsenal to battle it out. It is no surprise then that Klopp has been joined by Pep Guardiola and Mike Arteta on the five-man shortlist for the Premier League Manager of the Season award. Unai Emery, who has Aston Villa on the cusp of a place in the Champions League, and Bournemouth‘s Andoni Iraola are also in contention for the award. Supporters can vote for Klopp here before the 12pm (BST) deadline on Monday, May 13. As is also the case for the Player of the Season, which Virgil van Dijk is nominated for, the winner will be determined by public votes and a panel of football experts and announced on May 21. Klopp won the award previously for both the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons, making him the first and only Reds boss to have been crowned the winner. Considering Liverpool’s incredible lack of luck when it came to injuries this season, in addition to turning a transition campaign into talk of a quadruple, Klopp has worked wonders again this campaign. The Reds are guaranteed at least a third-place finish, and if they secure victories in their final two games, they will achieve the club’s joint-fifth-best points tally in the Premier League (84).

Newcastle United could be major obstacle to Manchester Uniteds move for Michael Olise Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United face yet more competition from within the Premier League in the race for the signature of Michael Olise. Now, Newcastle United have also joined the chase. The Frenchman was sensational on Monday night in Crystal Palace’s dominating 4-0 win over United, demonstrating his skill, creativity and goal scoring threat that has made him one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League. Olise found the back of the net twice against a beleaguered United side and could easily have had a hat-trick if he hadn’t spurned a couple more glorious chances. For United’s part, they have struggled massively this year to create for their strikers as Bruno Fernandes is the team’s top scorer and Rasmus Hojlund has bagged only 14 goals in his debut season. Therefore, it has been widely reported for a while now that Olise is a key target for United in the upcoming transfer window. With Dan Ashworth’s arrival as sporting director held up due to a court case with his current employers Newcastle, the summer window has been difficult to plan for the Red Devils. However, one name that INEOS have reportedly pre-approved is that of Olise, reflecting how convinced they are by the 22-year-old’s potential. However, The Daily Mail are reporting that there could be a potential spanner in the works for United. With chances of losing Ashworth to the Red Devils, the Magpies have plotted their revenge. The paper claims that “Newcastle are rekindling interest in Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise.” The Magpies “are making a late push to qualify for Europe themselves and will hope the ambition of their project can help convince Olise they are serious contenders.” Sadly for United, Newcastle are not the only threat to a potential deal. There have been recent reports of Aston Villa feeling bullish about their chances of landing the player and as usual, Chelsea are also lurking in the background. United’s lacklustre end to the season and the very real possibility that they could be the only team among the aforementioned quartet not to be able to offer European football next season, could seriously hurt their chances of landing the exciting star. However, Olise is said to be very keen on a move to United. In addition, the player has also been described as an “avid” fan of the club as a child, so perhaps nostalgia will pull at his heart strings when he needs to decide where his next destination will be. Liverpool fans fondly relive incredible forgotten goal under Jurgen Klopp Liverpool FC
Liverpool fans fondly relive incredible forgotten goal under Jurgen Klopp Liverpool FC
There have been endless memorable Liverpool goals with Jurgen Klopp at the helm, but some Reds fans believe a forgotten gem could be the best. As each day passes, the closer we get to Klopp leaving Anfield, which is going to be hard to process. This has been an incredible nine-season ride under the 56-year-old, who has won major trophies and played scintillating football along the way. We will all have our own choice for the best goal scored with Klopp as manager, from long-range stunners to last-gasp winners, but is a forgotten classic the best of the lot? TIA’s Henry Jackson recently posted a reminder of Roberto Firmino‘s equaliser away to Man City in 2018/19, with the Brazilian finishing off a perfect team move: Could be my favourite goal of the Klopp era, even though we ultimately still lost a huge game. To do this away to that City team (their best under Pep in my opinion) was outrageous…pic.twitter.com/5GKxuP7mue — Henry Jackson (@HenryJackson87) May 8, 2024 Liverpool went on to lose the crucial title clash 2-1, which is why it is so often consigned to history, but these fans have shown their love for it as they fondly reacted to the mesmerising goal: Not many teams keep the ball for almost a whole, uninterrupted minute against Pep’s Man. City, but to end it with a goal made this even more special. This Liverpool were truly incredible and a joy to watch. https://t.co/nHyX2jJoe1 — ADAM O’DRISCOLL ?? (@adamodriscoll) May 9, 2024 This had absolutely everything. All players comfortable in possession and executing a range of precise passing with excellent movement, several switches of play and the perfect volleyed cross for the goal. — G il Vecchio Uomo (@vecchio_uomo) May 8, 2024 These games were exhausting to watch. The highest quality the league has and ever will see over 90 minutes https://t.co/riVKro4LwY — Ted Clark (@MrTedClark) May 8, 2024 At the time we were the best team in the world. Sports-washing oil funds don’t count toward this. https://t.co/JAMV4BHUjN — JT_ (@PrimeRibona) May 9, 2024 Boss goal ?? https://t.co/O2eAdcv5O5 — Leonlfc (@Leonlfc3) May 8, 2024 The movement, spacing, zip on the passes, numbers in the box, the teamwork – just looks so different to how we’ve played in recent times — Martin Barnard (@Barniesta13) May 8, 2024 It’s not my favourite but it is absolutely the best one. I think my favourite is probably Salah away at City in the CL. — James Fielding (@JamesField46797) May 8, 2024 Goal of the PL era. — Frank Jones (@FrankJo85581815) May 8, 2024 That went under the radar due to the defeat. Sublime — Jason Willson (@tuggyj) May 8, 2024 Best overall team goal to be sure. Especially given the opponents. I think my favourite though was Bobby Firmino making it 2-1 away at City (again) in the Champo League semi — Richard O (@richardotoole42) May 8, 2024 The result will always be painful, so it is understandable why some can’t enjoy watching the goal back, but the quality on show was remarkable. As some allude to, to be able to keep possession in such tight areas against that City side, and in such inch-perfect fashion, is a testament to how great that Liverpool team was. There could be a strong argument that no game in Premier League history has been of a higher standard. This was Fabinho and Jordan Henderson at their peak, prior to their legs going, and Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson at their most effective linking with one another. It is another reminder of what special memories Klopp has given us since 2015 – if Liverpool score a better team goal under Arne Slot, fair play!

Pirates coach Riveiro enjoying the nice fight with Stellies
Riveiro says Pirates will give Stellenbosch FC a run for their money. Jose Riveiro is enjoying the ‘nice fight’ for second-place in the DStv Premiership between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC. ALSO READ: Mabasa insists Golden Boot award not on his mind With only three games to go before the end of the season, only one point separates the two teams. Stellies currently occupy second spot with 50 points following their goalless draw with AmaZulu on Wednesday. The Buccaneers, who beat Chippa United 2-0 on the same day, are third with 49 points. Although he concedes finishing second behind league champions Mamelodi Sundowns is not in their hands, Riveiro says Pirates will give Stellenbosch FC a run for their money. “Stellies are still ahead of us by one point and that’s the reality and they’re still depending on their own results,” said Riveiro.  “For us, we have to continue putting pressure on them and push as much as we can. It’s going to be a difficult race for all of us, but at the same time it’s a nice fight,” he added before praising Stellies for their efforts this season.  “Stellies are having an excellent season and whatever happens at the end of the season, it’s still an exceptional campaign for them. But we are going to try and achieve our objective, which is to finish second or as high as we can. In Wednesday’s game against Chippa, Riveiro was happy that they shut out the Chilli Boyz.  “Being solid and not conceding is a big plus for a team that has the capacity that we have in attack. It’s difficult to keep a clean sheet against us,” said Riveiro.  Even though Riveiro always demands the best out of his squad, the Spaniard admits that his players are also suffering from fatigue and cannot play well all the time. “We understand that it’s been a crazy run and the players are humans so they feel the fatigue and today, like I said, it was a difficult match.” he said.  ALSO READ: Pirates’ Riveiro unhappy with performance despite Chippa win “As a football fan, once you see a team performing at a certain level, you want that team to perform like that all the time. But as a coach, you need to always understand that it’s not always possible (to perform well all the time).” Pirates will be at home at Orlando Stadium again this Saturday against Richards Bay and the kick off time for that game is 8pm.

On January 13, 2023, Romain Folz’s AmaZulu pummelled Chiefs 4-0 in the DStv Premiership in Durban, embarrassing Arthur Zwane’s Amakhosi with goals from Dumisani Zuma, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Sede Junior Dion and the late Bongi Ntuli. “It’s one of my best games,” Folz recently told FarPost, though it didn’t help him too much, as he was redeployed by the club in the following April with the club struggling, and ultimately resigned. Pablo Franco Martin is the new man in charge at AmaZulu, while Zwane was replaced by Molefi Ntseki ahead of this season, with Ntseki then sacked in October and replaced by Cavin Johnson. While the coaches of both teams were not there in 2023, there are plenty of players from both teams that will remember what happened. The likes of Mphahlele and Dion are still at AmaZulu, while Mduduzi Shabalala, Zitha Kwinika, Yusuf Maart and Ashley Du Preez were among those who started the game for Chiefs. Dove woes Defender Edmilson Dove also started that match, and his howler, passing a back pass straight to Dion, helped AmaZulu go 3-0 up before the break. The Mozambican defender will not be able to redeem himself on Sunday, however, as he is suspended after getting a red card this week against TS Galaxy. Chiefs have also lost to AmaZulu this season, going down 1-0 in the last 32 of the Carling Black Label Knockout at FNB Stadium on October 21, a result that was the final straw for Ntseki, who was sacked the following Monday, and replaced by Johnson. Ironically, Chiefs’ best result under Ntseki also came against AmaZulu, Pule Mmodi scoring twice in 3-0 DStv Premiership home win at the end of August.

Chippa United score R33 million sponsorship deal!
Chippa United score R33 million sponsorship deal!
Chippa United have scored a R33 million sponsorship deal from the Buffalo City ahead of next season. According to a report by DispatchLIVE, the sponsorship deal entered into by the two parties is for the next three years. As expected in any deal, there are terms and conditions to the deal signed by both the Buffalo City and Chippa United. Amongst them is that Chippa United play seven of their home games to Buffalo City Municipality Stadium at R1.2 million each. Chippa United have already played at the stadium this season, and fresh in the minds of football fans East London is the match against Kaizer Chiefs. The Chilli Boys hammered Chiefs 2-0 in a packed stadium, thanks to goals from Bienvenu Eva Nga and Sinoxolo Kwayiba. CHIPPA UNITED BAG R33 MILLION SPONSORSHIP DEAL “Buffalo City Metro has endorsed a R33m  three-year sponsorship deal for Chippa United to bring some of its Premier Soccer League games to the city,” reads part of the report. THE CHILLI BOYS ALMOST CERTAIN TO AVOID RELEGATION Chippa United are almost certain that they will not get relegated this season as they are currently on 32 points with three games to go. They lead 15th-placed Richards Bay FC with eight points and bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs with 14 points – the three teams have all played 27 games. And this deal makes sense for both parties, especially the Buffalo City Municipality who knows they will benefit greatly from it. Nonetheless, Chippa United have never been relegated from the DStv Premiership since their promotion in 2012 despite too many changes to their technical team.

Virgil van Dijk on 8-man shortlist for Premier League Player of the Season Liverpool FC
Virgil van Dijk on 8-man shortlist for Premier League Player of the Season Liverpool FC
Virgil van Dijk is one of eight nominees for the Premier League Player of the Season award, with the Liverpool captain the club’s sole representative. The Dutchman returned to his imperious best this season, dusting off his struggles from last season to become a formidable force at the back once again. Van Dijk has been forced to miss only three games this season – due to illness and suspension – and has been rested a further seven times. His elite availability and dominance earned him plenty of plaudits, and although Liverpool have faded towards the backend of the season, it does not cast a shadow on the captain’s season. And his place on the shortlist for the Premier League Player of the Season shows just that, with Van Dijk joined by seven others. Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Declan Rice all join the No. 4 as nominees, with voting open here ahead of the deadline at 12pm (BST) on Monday, May 13. Public votes are combined with those of a panel of football experts to determine the winner, who will be announced on May 18 – the day before the final game of the season. Van Dijk has won the award before, in 2018/19, and is vying to become only the fifth player to win the gong multiple times after Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic and Kevin De Bruyne. The 32-year-old was the last Liverpool player to pick up the prize, a season after Mohamed Salah. Van Dijk has missed only two Premier League games this season, completing 90 minutes on 33 different occasions and adding two goals and two assists to his eight clean sheets.

Mamelodi Sundowns on track to set another PSL record
Mamelodi Sundowns pretty much own every conceivable PSL record, but there’s one more they will be gunning for before the 2023/2024 DStv Premiership season wraps up. Mamelodi Sundowns currently have 63 log points from 25 matches this season, thanks to 19 wins and six draws. Masandawana currently own the record for points earned in a PSL season that contained 16 teams (30 matches). That record stands at 71 points which the Tshwane giants set in winning the title in the 2015/2016 season. With five matches still remaining in the season, Mamelodi Sundowns could pick up as many as 15 more points, finishing the season on a whopping 78. However, they only require another nine points from the matches below to break their old record – and rewrite the PSL history books once again. Don’t bet against them doing so! Manchester United willing to pay Gleison Bremer 10 million a year Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester United willing to pay Gleison Bremer 10 million a year Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United, along with Atletico Madrid, are prepared to increase Gleison Bremer’s salary to €10 million a year and pay €50 million to tempt Juventus into selling their star defender. The Old Trafford side’s defence has been the subject of much criticism this season and it has become abundantly clear that INEOS will need to remedy the situation in the summer window. This has resulted in the future of numerous centre backs being up in the air, as the likes of Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire could soon be playing their football away from the club. Consequently, defenders such as Ronald Araujo, Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrad Branthwaite have been heavily linked to a move to Old Trafford to replace these probable outgoings. One name that has also never been too far away from United’s is that of Brazilian Gleison Bremer. The 27 year old is of interest to the Red Devils and it has been previously reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has no problems paying the Brazilian’s release clause, who is enjoying a sensational season in Serie A. However, it soon became clear that Bremer’s release clause did not become active until next year and any side looking to sign the player would need to negotiate with the Old Lady this summer. Calciomercato claim that both Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are ready to launch “a €50 million assault” for Bremer this upcoming window, hoping the fee to be sufficient to convince their Italian counterparts to do business. Described as “one of the most successful purchases” at Juventus in many years and the best goal-scoring defender in Europe, Juventus are understandably reluctant to lose the player. The Italian paper give an example of this when they state, “with the goal scored against Roma, Bremer became the best central defender in Europe in terms of goals scored, two more than any other rival.” However, financial problems mean that a sale of a top prospect is necessary and if they cannot sell Federico Chiesa, the club’s electric winger, then “proposals for the Brazilian defender will be taken into consideration”. In this context, United are “ready to make a €50 million deal with a €10 million annual salary already offered to the player who wouldn’t say no.” The defender reportedly makes just over €9 million a year, so the contract offer from the Red Devils is a significant increase on his current deal. However, the Italian outlet is quick to point out that €50 million will not be enough this summer to tempt them into a sale: “Juventus’ request is for at least €70 million, a figure that would allow for a large capital gain in the balance sheet.” Without question, finding a long term partner for Lisandro Martinez seems to be the biggest focus of this summer for INEOS and it will be interesting to see if they decide that the goal scoring Brazilian is in fact the right man for the job. Rulani Mokwenas last minute Pitso Mosimane snub
Rulani Mokwenas last minute Pitso Mosimane snub
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena had agreed to join Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly before a sudden U-turn. Mosimane left Sundowns in a shock turn of events, back in 2020, joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly.  He would go on to have immense success in Egypt, winning the league a couple of times. Mosimane also helped to end Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League drought. He also led the side to a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup.  Mosimane is now well known to have a set, tried and tested technical team that follows him to every club. That team consisting of Musi Matlaba, the head analyst, and Kabelo Rangoaga, a strength and conditioning fitness coach. One coach that turned down the opportunity to be part of that group is Mokwena. The 37-year-old was brought back to the club as an assistant by ‘Jingles’ after stints at Orlando Pirates and Chippa United. He helped Sundowns mastermind a come from behind league title over Kaizer Chiefs.  Mokwena nearly joined Mosimane at Al Ahly When Mosimane departed, rumours circulated that Mokwena would follow him to Al Ahly. He stayed on at Sundowns, however, with Mosimane’s agent and wife Moira Tlhagale now confirming the snub. “We had already booked flights for him and had his passport, but I was made aware two hours before we left that coach Rulani Mokwena had decided not to go to Egypt anymore” Tlhagale said to the High Court as per Sunday World. Both have enjoyed success since then Mokwena initially stayed on as an assistant coach to Manqoba Mngqithi at Sundowns. Then he took over as head coach in 2023 and has been phenomenal since. He is still yet to lose a league game, and is edging ever so closer to an invincible season. He has already won the African Football League as well and is in the Nedbank Cup final. Mosimane is now in Saudi Arabia trying to keep Abha Club in the topflight.

All we know about the 6 staff members leaving with Jurgen Klopp this summer Liverpool FC
Wednesday brought news of another looming backroom departure in the wake of Jurgen Klopp‘s exit, taking the current total to six as an era comes to a close. There are now less than two weeks left with Klopp at Liverpool, with time having flown since he announced his departure in late January. At the same time, it was confirmed his assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz would also bid farewell at the season’s conclusion. Krawietz has worked as Klopp’s right-hand man since their time at Mainz and his exit was never to come as a surprise, but Lijnders had been tipped to throw his hat in the ring to take over at Anfield. But he is to pursue a career as a manager away from Merseyside and has all but confirmed elite development coach Vitor Matos, who has served as a crucial link between the first team and the academy since his arrival in 2019, will join him. Jurgen Klopp (Manager) Pep Lijnders (Assistant manager) Peter Krawietz (Assistant manager) Vitor Matos (Elite development coach) John Achterberg (Goalkeeping coach) Andreas Schlumberger (Head of recovery and performance) Andreas Kornmayer (Head of fitness and conditioning) With Klopp, Lijnders, Krawietz and Matos, it sees four key figureheads depart, with incoming boss Arne Slot to come armed with his own inner circle. The Dutchman will also have big positions to fill across the coaching department and behind the scenes, with a further three exits looming. Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg announced he will leave the club after 15 years, and a recent report claimed he could reunite with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia. In the fitness department, Liverpool are to lose head of recovery and performance, Andreas Schlumberger, after four years on Merseyside, with an agreement reached to allow him to leave a year early. And, as reported by This Is Anfield‘s David Lynch, head of fitness and conditioning Andreas Kornmayer is also expected to follow Klopp through the exit doors after eight years at the club. More could follow, with question marks over head of nutrition Mona Nemmer and goalkeeping coaches Jack Robinson and Claudio Taffarel. Mass change is upon us, and it is already known that Slot will bring his assistant Sipke Hulsoff, head of performance Ruben Peeters, and technical advisor Etienne Reijnen with him from Feyenoord this summer.

Willian Pacho to Liverpool links have substance Latest LFC transfer rumours Liverpool FC
Willian Pacho to Liverpool links have substance Latest LFC transfer rumours Liverpool FC
Two key areas of focus for the summer transfer window are starting to appear, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho is the latest linked as a reinforcement at centre-back. Change will be rife at the club this summer with an overhaul in the coaching department, player departures and new signings, the latter of which is expected to bolster opposite ends of the pitch. Earlier this month, it was reported the club are expected to target a new winger, and a centre-back appears to be on the agenda too. Arne Slot is poised to take over as the new head coach, but with Michael Edwards having a seat at the table alongside new sporting director Richard Hughes, a new hierarchy has been established. And when it comes to defensive additions, Frankfurt’s Pacho has been name-checked a number of times, and the reliable Neil Jones, in a column for Caught Offside, has noted the links “have substance.” Allowed to leave if price is right The 22-year-old is only in his first season in the Bundesliga after moving from Royal Antwerp last summer, and thus he is contracted until 2028. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, whose reliability is questionable after the Ruben Amorim chase, claims he will be allowed to leave this summer if a club pays above €50 million (£42.9m). The Ecuadorian has played 42 times for Frankfurt this season and has missed just three games – availability that the Reds will value, in addition to his senior experience at just 22. As per Fbref, he is ranked in the 84th percentile – against his peers across Europe’s big five leagues – for blocks, and 80th percentile for clearances, which shows he’s had plenty of defending to do. However, his aerial success rate is not as impressive, sitting in just the 38th percentile – Virgil van Dijk, for comparison, is in the 98th percentile. Whether Pacho is who Liverpool pursue, the profile of the player the club may target is clearly going to be young and with ample experience, as has been the trend over the years. The club have Jarell Quansah, and Sepp van den Berg will be hoping for a chance in pre-season, but with Joel Matip likely to depart and Ibrahima Konate‘s questionable reliability, further reinforcements will be required.

Orlando Pirates to sign another SuperSport United gem
Orlando Pirates to sign another SuperSport United gem
Orlando Pirates are reportedly set to sign another SuperSport United gem in Kegan Johannes ahead of next season. This according to sources known to Sportswire, who reports that the deal for Johannes to join the Buccaneers is as good as done. Johannes has been a cog in that SuperSport United defence over the years, hence they offered him a new deal until June 2026. And what this means is that Pirates may have parted ways with millions of Rands to secure his services from Matsatsantsa. Now, according to the same publication, Pirates want to reinforce their right-back position due to injury challenges they are currently facing. Thabiso Lebitso is injured and may only return next season while Bandile Shandu has also had his fair share of injuries this season. In the duo’s absence, Jose Riveiro has used Thabiso Monyane, and Pirates now want to bring in Johannes to stabilise that department. ORLANDO PIRATES TO SIGN JOHANNES FROM SUPERSPORT UNITED “SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes is on his way to join Orlando Pirates next season,” reads part of the report. “According to Sportswire sources, Pirates have been looking for a consistent right back for the past two seasons, and Johannes fits the bill. Their current options at the position are limited due to injuries.” “As Sportswire has been told the deal is done, Johannes would be joining the club he scored against in a DStv Premiership match at Orlando Stadium in March 2022.” BUCS SEEM TO BE GETTING MORE PLAYERS FROM MATSATSANTSA Should Johannes indeed join Pirates, he will link up with his former teammates at SuperSport United in Patrick Maswanganyi and Thalente Mbatha. Mbatha is currently on loan at Pirates from SuperSport United but reports suggest that he could stay permanently next season. There seems to be a good working relationship between Pirates and SuperSport United who also signed Siphesihle Ndlovu from the Sea Robbers. A few years ago, SuperSport United signed Thamsanqa Gabuza from Pirates in what came as a shock at the time. Johannes would be expected to hit the ground running as soon as he joins Pirates given their hectic schedule and ambitions to win trophies. As things stand, Pirates are vying for the second spot in the DStv Premiership log which will mean a return to the CAF Champions League. They are also in the final of the Nedbank Cup where they will face league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on 1 June.

Manchester United loanee Will Fish faces race against time to recover from back injury to play Aberdeen this weekend Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s impressive loanee Will Fish is in a race against time to make Hibernian’s home match against Aberdeen this Saturday. The young defender has once again been a mainstay of the Hibs’ defence and, for the second consecutive year, he has been a vital cog in their success this season. Fish has managed to play 45 times this season in all competitions but he recently had to be subbed off after 24 minutes versus St Johnstone with an injury problem. The Edinburgh Evening News report that “Will Fish is still working his way back from the back injury that kept him out of the loss to Ross County.” The Hibernian coach, Nick Montgomery added that the injury “is a bit worse than we thought, another innocuous one, just heading the ball. It’s a twinge in his back – but backs are always difficult until they settle down.” The 21 year old has been lucky so far with his injury record as he has managed to play 65 times over two seasons for Hibernian, and has become familiar with the rough and tumble of the Scottish league. The side from Easter Road are currently top of the relegation split table and there are three matches left to play in the season, where Fish will certainly be aiming to play a part in. The 21-year-old Mancunian recently gave an interview where he left the door open for a return to his parent club United in the summer: “I take it step by step and whatever happens in the summer, I don’t know. But I’ve loved every minute of playing for Hibs.” United have desperately struggled this season with no centre back at the club managing to stay consistently fit or play well for an extended period of time. This can be seen in the team conceding 55 goals so far in this campaign with an embarrassing record 13 losses already in the league – the worst a United team has managed in the Premier League era. There is also a strong possibility that multiple defenders, such as Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire, could leave in the summer window, with replacements needed if so. Perhaps the academy product will believe he can come back in pre-season and convince Erik ten Hag or a new manager that he could be the player to stand up for his boyhood club. Why Kaizer Chiefs rejected top target in January!
Why Kaizer Chiefs rejected top target in January!
It is set to be a transfer window of change at Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the current campaign. Chiefs are expected to appoint a new coach who will bring his own technical staff to Naturena. Furthermore, it is believed the said coaching staff will be backed with a squad overhaul. That includes clearing the deadwood and signing quality players. This in an effort to return Chiefs to its former glory days. Chiefs opted against going into the market Chiefs are currently under interim coach Cavin Johnson. He took over in late 2023 and oversaw the January transfer window. The veteran mentor decided against dipping into the market, even though reports suggested he was given a substantial budget. This was in an effort to see the club kick on in the league and Nedbank Cup in 2024. He opted against using it, however, sticking to his word when he said he wanted to give his current crop a fair chance and to coach them properly.  That decision didn’t quite bear fruit, however, with Chiefs being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Milford FC. They now also find themselves battling for a place in the top eight in the DStv Premiership. That can only make one wonder how they would’ve fared had Johnson opted to sign players in the window.  According to FARPost, Chiefs were offered the chance to sign their main goalkeeping target Salim Magoola from Richards Bay FC.  Rejected Magoola “As FARPost reported in December last year, Magoola was offered to Kaizer Chiefs by Richards Bay. However, the Soweto Giants could not sign the player due to the foreign quota.” Wrote the publication.  Chiefs initially showed interest in Magoola before the start of the current season. It was thought that they had switched their attentions to Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United. After learning how price tag, they opted out of the race.  Magoola now seems to be the top target to replace the likely to depart Itumeleng Khune at Chiefs.

Rulani Mokwena reacts to Sundowns goalless draw to Arrows
“I don’t know how the game goes to half time at 1-0. I think it should have been 5-0,” said Mokwena. Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena had mixed reactions to his side’s goalless draw against Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday night. ALSO READ: Pirates keep Champions League dream alive with Chippa victory Musa Lebusa was sent off for a foul on Lungelo Nguse in an entertaining match in Hammarsdale. The Brazilians were not clinical in front of goal and wasted numerous goal-scoring opportunities. In the end, both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils after they failed to find the breakthrough. Sundowns who wrapped up the championship last Thursday are still unbeaten in the league after 25 games. “I don’t know how the game goes to half time at 1-0. I think it should have been 5-0,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the match. “We worked on a kick-off routine and it didn’t come out. It was my idea to be honest because of how deep their line was and the rest defence was not so good but the quicker the ball goes forward, the quicker it comes back. “With the red card, I spoke to the players and they say ‘Okay, coach we shouldn’t have allowed the ball to bounce’ but it’s part of football. It was 10 versus 11 but there was still one team on the pitch and that is why (Ismael) Watenga is man of the match because we still created more chances. Marcelo Allende with the short corner, he should have scored so it was one of those goals where the ball couldn’t go into the back of the net. “It was a very good performance from us and we were very offensive with chance after chance and maybe wasteful in front of goal and that is my biggest disappointment. I’m very proud of the character and spirit, the mentality of this group is very good.” ALSO READ: Mokwena wins PSL coach of month for April Sundowns will be hoping the injury to Lucas Ribeiro is not a serious one after the Brazilian forward was substituted late in the first half. The race for the Top 8 Kaizer Chiefs are clinging on but will they stay there?
The race for the Top 8 Kaizer Chiefs are clinging on but will they stay there?
Mamelodi Sundowns may have already been crowned champions, but there are still plenty of other issues to decide in this season’s DStv Premiership. One of the main questions is which teams will qualify for next season’s MTN8. Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch, along with Sundowns, are already mathematically safe in this regard, while Sekhukhune United will also surely be fine. Even TS Galaxy, SuperSport United and Cape Town City will have to seriously slip up if they are to miss out in the final few games of the season. But from Kaizer Chiefs down there is a major log jam, with five teams separated by just two points. Here, Phakaaathi takes a look at those five teams and makes a prediction on who will grab that final MTN8 spot. Kaizer Chiefs -34 points With just two wins in 2024, it is a bit of a miracle that Kaizer Chiefs are still in the top eight. But Cavin Johnson’s side are just ahead of Polokwane City on goal difference, after both drew their matches in midweek. Chiefs certainly have their fate in their own hands, with games against another side in the top eight mix, AmaZulu and Polokwane City coming up, before their final match of the season at Cape Town Spurs. Chiefs could be helped if Spurs are already relegated by the time that match comes around, but they have been so unconvincing this year that it is hard to predict how their season will end. Remaining matches Sunday – AmaZulu (a) May 18 – Polokwane City (h) May 25 – Cape Town Spurs (a) Prediction – 8th Polokwane City – 34 points Polokwane City missed a great chance to go two points clear of Chiefs, when they could only manage a goalless draw at home to relegation-threatened Richards Bay on Wednesday. They do have two of their remaining games at home, against Sekhukhune and TS Galaxy, either side of that visit to Chiefs. City will have to make sure they keep it tight at the back, however, as the season draws to a close – they have the joint worst scoring record in the league, along with the bottom two, Richards Bay and Cape Town Spurs. Remaining Matches Saturday – Sekhukhune United (h) May 18 – Kaizer Chiefs (a) May 24 – TS Galaxy (h) Prediction – 10th Golden Arrows – 33 points Steve Komphela has steadied the ship a little since taking over as Golden Arrows head coach, but they are still battling to win matches – the former Sundowns coach has just two DStv Premiership wins since taking over. There has also been a 7-1 hammering at Orlando Pirates and a 3-0 beating by Stellenbosch, but the side have also managed some impressive draws, no more so than their midfield stalemate with Mamelodi Sundowns. The KZN side could do with six points from home games against Chippa United and Cape Town Spurs, before they visit AmaZulu for a final day derby. Remaining matches Sunday – Chippa United (h) May 18 – Cape Town Spurs (h) May 25 – AmaZulu (a) Prediction – 9th Chippa United – 32 points Chippa United have had a fairly good year so far under Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September, though three consecutive league defeats have damaged their chances of making the top eight. Sunday’s game against Arrows looks key if they are to get back on track, and while a trip to Royal AM should not cause them too much concern, a final day game at home Sekhukhune looks a tough match to have to win to make the MTN8. Remaining matches Sunday – Golden Arrows (a) May 18 – Royal AM (a) May 25 – Sekhukhune (h) Prediction – 12th AmaZulu – 32 points AmaZulu got a good midweek draw at Stellenbosch, but really need wins to boost their chances of making the MTN8 next season. Their game at home to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday looks pivotal, and could give Pablo Franco Martin’s side just the lift they need for games at Sekhukhune and at home to Golden Arrows. Usuthu did win at Amakhosi the last time these two sides met, in the Carling Black Label Knockout first round in October, though Chiefs hammered AmaZulu 3-0 in the first round of the league. Remaining matches Sunday – Kaizer Chiefs (h) May 18 – Sekhukhune United (a) May 25 – Golden Arrows (h) Prediction – 11th

Fabio Carvalho pledges international allegiance after misunderstanding Liverpool FC
Fabio Carvalho pledges international allegiance after misunderstanding Liverpool FC
Fabio Carvalho has admitted to making a mistake in how he handled his withdrawal from international duty in 2022, but has made it clear which country he wishes to represent. In November 2022, Carvalho pulled out of international duty with Portugal under-21s via a text message, leaving coach Rui Jorge “disappointed” by his conduct. He has since failed to play any international football, but in an interview with the Echo, Carvalho acknowledged his mistake and pledged allegiance to Portugal. Carvalho explained: “There was a little hiccup with Portugal, a little misunderstanding let’s say. It was my fault. “There were other factors going into it, but I think the way I handled the situation because I had a family matter, wasn’t the best. But I’m still learning and I’ve learnt from my mistake. “I want to play for Portugal. I have obviously played for England, but I don’t really have a British passport to play in European competitions or the World Cup. “So I think that door is closed if I’m being honest with you. “But I’m Portuguese and I want to play for Portugal. If they call me up, I’ll be willing to represent.” The 21-year-old is Portuguese-born but he did represent England from U15 to U18 level, though his decision is clear and only time will tell if he earns a call-up. Carvalho will return to Liverpool this summer for the start of pre-season, and he will have a new manager to impress after two loan spells in 2023/24. The first half of the campaign was spent with Leipzig, which proved underwhelming, before a successful spell at Hull followed, where he made 20 appearances, scored nine goals and assisted two. He recently said: “I’m just excited for the future. It’s not been great [so far], but in a way, that’s a good thing, depending on how you look at it. It can only get better.”

Both Hunt and Seema not happy with the stalemate
“I thought we had it (the game) and inexperience cost us again. We’re learning the hard way and that’s all we can do,” Hunt said. In a recurring theme, SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has once again blamed inexperience for dropping points against Sekhukhune United in a DStv Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday. ALSO READ: Pirates looking to do league and cup double over ‘physical’ Chippa Matsatsantsa a Pitori looked to have bagged all three points when Bradley Grobler scored with three minutes left but Chibuike Ohizu equalised on the stroke of fulltime to secure a hard-fought point. Hunt was not pleased with the fact that his side failed to close shop as both teams shared the spoils in Tshwane. SuperSport are now sixth on the log while Babina Noko remain in fourth position behind Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch FC and champions Mamelodi Sundowns. “I thought we had it (the game) and inexperience cost us again. We’re learning the hard way and that’s all we can do,” Hunt bemoaned after the match. “We’re overachieving with some of these kids but it’s costing us but we’re going to learn. They have to get better and they will get better. We will try to finish as high as we can and we should still finish in the top four. Tonight would have been a big step forward but we’re learning on the job.” Hunt and his charges missed out on an opportunity to build on their win over Royal AM in the last match. They will next play basement dwellers Cape Town Spurs on Friday. Meanwhile, Sekhukhune coach Lehlohonolo Seema was more scathing in his assessment of the game. “The 1-1 score, I think they (SuperSport) will take it but for us, I don’t think that we can be proud of ourselves because from the first five minutes you could see that SuperSport was a team that was playing in moments but we threatened all the time but we didn’t take our chances,” he said. “We knew that we would score as soon as we became composed and that is how our goal came. What’s painful is the way we conceded the goal and the timing of it. That’s why it’s hard for me to say we’re happy with this point.  ALSO READ: Johnson on ten-man Chiefs – we had better chances “Look at how our striker scored, he had time to control and finish. That’s what we were supposed to do from the first minute but we rushed all the time. SuperSport committed numbers but when we won the ball, we took wrong decisions but credit must go to the players for not giving up. Conceding so late and coming back shows that team has character but it was a difficult match.”

Man Uniteds Bruno Fernandes is bottom of the list to sell this summer Man United News And Transfer News
1 Bruno Fernandes is one of the last players INEOS want to sell this summer from the Manchester United squad. It had been reported the club’s new rulers were open to selling every player except youngsters like Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund in an effort to regenerate the squad and escape the Premier League’s profits and sustainability (PSR) restrictions. It was then suggested that this meant that the club would accept an offer for their talismanic captain, with fuels added to the fire when Fernandes gave an interview explaining that his future doesn’t just depend on him and that he wasn’t thinking about it due to focusing on the FA Cup final and the Euros. The Portuguese international has enjoyed an outstanding end of the season and won the club’s Player of the Month award for April. He is the team’s top scorer and assist maker and also leads his side in numerous other categories. Fernandes’ absence on Monday night was felt throughout the team as they put in one of their most abject performances of the season in a 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace without their captain. GIVEMESPORT have now reported that United are far from interested in parting ways with the creative midfielder. The Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal were thought to be interested in the player in the winter window and they are thought to be willing to come back in the summer with an £87 million to test United’s resolve. However, journalist Ben Jacobs reports “Bruno Fernandes is Manchester United’s captain, and is low on the list – if not right at the bottom of the list – of names that Manchester United want to sell this summer, even if funds are required both to stay in line with PSR and to move in the market.” Referring to Fernandes’ aforementioned interview he claimed, “we should note that Bruno Fernandes’ comments can be taken out of context because he doesn’t close the door entirely to an exit. But he also stresses that when a club and a player are aligned, they tend to move forward together.” “And he states quite clearly off the back of maybe opening the door slightly that at the moment, he believes that Manchester United and him are on the same page. So you can kind of interpret the comments both ways.” Whilst it is true that Fernandes would be one of the few current United players who could generate a large sale price, it would be nonsensical to do so. He lays claims to being one of the only signings in the post-Ferguson era to have been a significant success, amid a sea of disappointment. He is not the perfect player but he is the beating heart of this team and it is not unrealistic to suggest that a Bruno-less United might actually have finished the season in the bottom half of the Premier League. Red Devil fans across the globe will be delighted that INEOS also seem to appreciate the importance of the midfielder’s future at Old Trafford. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Al Ahly ready to try their luck for Mamelodi Sundowns superstar!
Al Ahly ready to try their luck for Mamelodi Sundowns superstar!
It is no secret that Teboho Mokoena has attracted interest from European clubs, with Al Ahly also in the mix.  After Afcon, it was reported that an English Premier League and French Ligue 1 side were interested in Mokoena. Mokoena only joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the January transfer window of 2022, coming in from cross-town rivals SuperSport United. Before joining the Brazilians, he was also heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. They then seemed to fall out of the race, with a club in Belgium joining and competing with Masandawana. In the end, it was the DStv Premiership champions that bid more and ended up getting his signature. Plenty of interest in Mokoena Since joining Sundowns, Mokoena has been a mainstay on their side. He has also been a transformed player under Rulani Mokwena, with his game going to another level. Since joining the club, he has won three league titles, MTN8, Nedbank Cup and African Football League Cup. Besides Mokwena, he has also found himself as a key cog in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana midfield.  With Mokoena having stellar performances for Bafana Bafana throughout Afcon, it’s no surprise that he would garner international interest. One of those interested parties that doesn’t seem to go away is Al Ahly. According to KickOff.com they have a plan to test the resolve of Sundowns in the upcoming transfer window.  Al Ahly’s plan to get Sundowns to sell “The prospect of a big-money transfer of Malian international Aliou Dieng to the Gulf Region has kept the heartbeat of Al Ahly’s interest in Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena pumping. Dieng (26) has interest from clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, where a transfer could fetch Ahly anything between USD3 million (approx. R55 million) and USD6 million (approx. R110 million). What Ahly will earn from Dieng’s transfer matches the kind of money that could get Sundowns listening. Considering the amounts that Sundowns have been spending in recruiting players in recent times – especially Marcelo Allende – offers of USD4 million (approx. R74 million) is what will shake them.” Wrote the publication.  Sundowns selling Mokoena to an African rivals ahead of the a season with a FIFA Club World Cup seems unlikely. But so does Al Ahly being deterred.

ALSO READ: Pirates’ Riveiro unhappy with performance despite Chippa win Mabasa moved to the summit of the top goalscorers list after netting a brace in Pirates’ 2-0 win over Chippa United on Wednesday night. The win boosted the Buccaneers’ chances of finishing second behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns and qualifying for next season’s Caf Champions League. Pirates remain in third spot, but have closed the gap to within a point of Stellenbosch FC, who drew 0-0 with AmaZulu at home on Wednesday. Speaking after his side’s victory against Chippa, Mabasa said getting the three points in the game was more important to him than the Golden Boot race. “It’s not really on my mind [the Golden Boot award]. The important thing is for the team to get three points and that’s exactly what we did here today. “If it happens, it’s by the grace of God and I’ll be thankful for that. But yeah, the three points were important today,” Mabasa told SuperSport after the game. “Obviously it will mean a lot [if I win it]. As a striker that’s what you look to do, you look to score goals and if they’re coming the way they are right now, I’m very glad and I’m very happy,” he added. How rich is Chiefs owner Kaizer Motaung?
Kaizer Motaung went from a teenager with a dream of playing football to one of the most influential figures in the game. Motaung was just 16 years old when he made his Orlando Pirates debut, and he would go on to play abroad with Atlanta Chiefs. After making waves in the North American Soccer League, Motaung returned to South Africa with the dream of starting his own team. Motaung was able to put together a strong team of experienced players and gifted rookies in spite of early obstacles and hostility.  The club quickly gained popularity and established itself as a force to be reckoned with.  After winning more than 78 trophies and earning an estimated 14 million supporters nationwide, they finally emerged as the most successful team in South Africa. Having held executive positions in both the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the National Soccer League (NSL), Motaung has been a significant figure in South African football administration.  Furthermore, in 1996, he and Irvin Khoza co-founded the Premier Soccer League (PSL), which contributed to the increase of sponsors and funding for professional football in South Africa.  He continues to oversee Kaizer Chiefs, be a member of the SAFA executive committee, and be a member of the PSL Board of Governors. How rich is Kaizer Motaung? Motaung is one of South Africa’s most successful businesspeople, with interests that extend beyond sports. His prominent companies are Kaimot Investments (PTY) LTD and Kaizer Investment Holdings Limited. The multi-millionaire owned several businesses, including KMS Marketing and Promotions, Technology and Publishing Companies, Chiefs Village, and Connectivity Partners. Motaung’s net worth has been estimated at R1.1 billion ($60 million). Tribute Minister of Sport, Arts And Culture, Goodenough Kodwa paid tribute to the great man. “Dr Motaung’s legacy includes the impact he has made in the business of South African sport,” Kodwa said. “As an administrator, Dr Motaung has brought a commercial and strategic savvy to South African football. “His work in the PSL and at Kaizer Chiefs is seen in the kind of sponsors these entities have attracted, and how they have continued to evolve over the years. “Kaizer Chiefs was the first team in South Africa to adopt the concept of a Managing Director. The rest had Chairmen as heads of their teams. Kaizer Chiefs has become a global brand and has regularly secured significant partnerships and sponsorships. Kaizer Chiefs has also branched to businesses beyond football, such as funeral insurance – showing the business savvy of its founder…he has been a “Chincha Guluva” on and off the field! …a game changer indeed! “Dr Motaung still has a role to play in South African football. Football is still the most popular sport in South Africa, but that does not reflect in the mood of the country and the general standard of football now. “The standard of football in the country is not good. Many teams play in facilities that are substandard, while South Africa is not at the level it should be in African and world football.”

Man United to face stiff competition from Chelsea for Ronald Araujo Man United News And Transfer News
1 Chelsea are reportedly keen on making a move for Manchester United’s long-term defensive target Ronald Araujo. The Red Devils have held an interest in the player for over two years when they offered a significantly larger contract to him than Barcelona in the summer of 2022, but the Uruguayan instead decided to stay put. However, Barcelona’s need to sell for financial issues and recent costly errors by the defender, such as the player’s red card against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter final, means that things are not so rosy anymore in Catalonia between the two parties. There have been numerous reports as of late that United have already opened talks with Barcelona about purchasing the player and that the Mancunian side are so committed to the transfer that they would be willing to outbid fellow interested party, Bayern Munich, to seal the deal. Whilst Barcelona would ideally like the defender to stay they know they can’t pay him what other clubs will, so if he does not respond positively to his new contract offer this month, he will likely be sold in the summer window. However, as usual, United will not have all their own way in any deal. GIVEMESPORT reveals that Premier League rivals Chelsea also harbour an interest in securing the player’s services for next season. “Chelsea are starting to show interest in Ronald Araujo and will up the ante in the attempts to lure the Barcelona star to Stamford Bridge if it becomes clear that he is available at the right price when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.” “The west Londoners will be firmly in the race to acquire his services if they are given indications that a summer move is a serious possibility.” “The Blues are aware that it is incredibly rare for a defender of the 25-year-old’s calibre to become available, and it is understood that Pochettino does not want to miss out on the opportunity to strike a deal if ongoing doubts over his long-term future continue after the season reaches its climax.” Chelsea seem that they might be a problem for United this upcoming window as not only could they conceivably take a European spot away from the Old Trafford side but they seem to also be interested in the same players. The Peoples Person relayed last night that the Blues are also interested in United targets Michael Olise and Vitor Roque. United will hope that if they do decide to make a move for Araujo, the club’s long-term admiration for the player will be noted and they will certainly hope they can at least finish above Chelsea in the league, to encourage potential recruits that they are a more attractive destination than the London side. Orlando Pirates teenager attracts both African and European giants
Orlando Pirates teenager attracts both African and European giants
Orlando Pirates players keep attracting interest from Europe and yet another one of their stars is being tracked! In fact, it is not the first time that Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng has been the subject of interest from abroad. Earlier in the season, Pirates announced that Mofokeng had travelled to English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers for assessments. He then made his way back to South Africa, with word that he left a good impression in the English Midlands. This was the first formal bit of overseas interest in a player who was also thought to have impressed Spanish LaLiga sides. There is still no word yet, however, on whether the tricky winger will go back to England for another assessment or to sign a deal.  Rangers interested in Mofokeng He has seen his game continue to grow in leaps and bounds, after solidifying his place in the Pirates line-up. That has since seen him inline for a return to the U.K, this time with Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers thought to be interested in Mofokeng.  Mofokeng has not just attracted advances from Rangers, however, with Glasgow Times reporting on further interest. It’s believed that African giants Al Ahly and Serbian giants Red Bulls Salzburg are tracking the Pirates teenager. Red Bull Salzburg and Al Ahly also interested in the Pirates star “He (Mofokeng) has already caught the eye of clubs in England. He had a trial at Premier League side Wolves, before also being offered the chance to impress at Reading. Al-Ahly and Red Bull Salzburg are among the other clubs who hold an interest.” Wrote the publication. Mofokeng has been in sensational form for Pirates of late. He has earned the right to be one of the first names on coach Jose Riveiro’s starting line up. The 19-year old has 10 goal contributions in 34 games in all competitions so far, while Rangers lurk.  If he is to leave Pirates next season, Mofokeng will hope to do so having won the Nedbank Cup final. They will take on league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the 1st of June in Mbombela.

Joselu inspires Madrid comeback with heart to beat Bayern
Real Madrid face another German side, Borussia Dortmund, in the Wembley final on June 1. Real Madrid produced a spectacular comeback with “heart” against Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final on Wednesday with Joselu striking twice in the dying minutes, earning them a 2-1 win to progress 4-3 on aggregate. ALSO READ: PSG coach Luis Enrique proud despite ‘unfair’ Champions League exit Alphonso Davies smashed the visiting German giants ahead in the second half but record 14-time winners Madrid produced a sensational comeback with Joselu netting in the 88th and 91st minutes. Spanish champions Real Madrid face another German side, Borussia Dortmund, in the Wembley final on June 1, after they stunned the team they call their “black beast”. “It’s something magical, there’s no explanation,” said Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, revelling in another electric night in the Spanish capital. Journeyman striker and back-up option Joselu, on as a late substitute, wrote his name in Madrid’s history books with his last-gasp brace, giving Europe’s comeback kings another night to remember. “(The comeback) was with feeling and with heart, as the coach told us — you have to win games with heart,” said Joselu. Madrid had enjoyed the better of the match but it seemed Davies’ superb strike had set up a repeat of the 2013 all-German final in London. Instead Joselu consigned Bayern to a first trophyless season since 2012, his first goal coming after a handling error from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who had superbly kept Madrid at bay until that point. “(Before that) there were world class saves after world class saves, but that can happen, it’s football,” said Bayern defender Matthijs de Ligt. – High-intensity – Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel made three changes from the first leg, benching veteran Thomas Mueller and Leon Goretzka but the hosts dominated the opening stages. Neuer produced a superb double save to stop Madrid nosing in front, tipping the electric Vinicius Junior’s effort on to the post and then saving Rodrygo’s follow-up. Bayern’s Serge Gnabry limped off injured with Davies replacing him before England captain Harry Kane’s first flash of danger, but Andriy Lunin pushed his vicious volley around the post. Neuer palmed away a Vinicius free-kick as the teams ended a high-intensity, relentlessly frantic first half level. The second period was just as fraught, with Davies’ cross deflecting onto the roof of Lunin’s goal. Vinicius was unplayable down Madrid’s left and Rodrygo prodded his low cross agonisingly wide of the far post. The 38-year-old Neuer made superb saves to deny both Brazilian forwards again before the hour mark as Madrid ratcheted up the pressure. However just as in Munich, when Los Blancos were at their strongest, Bayern pounced. Canada international Davies cut inside from the left and smashed a shot beyond Lunin into the far top corner after 68 minutes. Madrid thought they had levelled moments later through Nacho but after a VAR review the strike was ruled out as the defender had grabbed Joshua Kimmich’s face before shooting. Tuchel took off Kane, still chasing the first trophy of his career, in the final stages to try and hold on to victory but it slipped through his fingers as Madrid produced more indelible European memories. – Referee ‘mistake’ – Ancelotti, sacked by Bayern in 2017, has kept Madrid’s squad players engaged and committed to the cause all season and it paid dividends at a crucial time. Neuer, who had been sublime to this point, fumbled what appeared a simple Vinicius strike and substitute Joselu gratefully bundled home from close range. “We had one foot in London, we saw ourselves going through to the final,” lamented the goalkeeper. With Bayern reeling Madrid struck again, decisively. It was Joselu once more, the striker on loan from second-division side Espanyol, turning home after Antonio Rudiger cut the ball back to him. The goal was ruled offside but officials overturned the decision after review, and after nearly 15 minutes of stoppage time, Madrid earned the chance to go for their 15th Champions League trophy. “There have been a lot of times we have looked dead and buried, but we have that mentality of never say die,” said Real midfielder Jude Bellingham. ALSO READ: Real Madrid claim 36th Spanish title after Girona stun Barca Bayern were left raging at full-time after De Ligt netted but play had been stopped beforehand for an offside flag against Noussair Mazraoui. “I don’t want to say that it’s always the referee’s mistake with Real Madrid, but that made the difference today,” grumbled De Ligt, saying play should have been allowed to continue. “It’s bitter, completely bitter,” said Tuchel.
