1 Antonio Conte appears to be back in the running to become Erik ten Hag’s successor as Manchester United manager. Throughout the current campaign, Man United fans and pundits alike have criticised Ten Hag for his team’s inconsistent performances. While a feeling of defeat is nothing new this season, the club fell to a new low last night. Slumping to a humiliating 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace, United achieved a record that no team would want to break. The club registered its 13th defeat in the league for the season – a club record during the Premier League era. Naturally, this harrowing loss as well as the unwanted record have piled on the pressure for the Dutch manager, who has already faced a barrage of criticism and gotten into rows with the media over his playing style or lack thereof. With Ten Hag’s days at Old Trafford expected to be numbered, several candidates have emerged as potential replacements. Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter have both long been linked with the club, while high-flying Girona boss Míchel Sánchez has also been named as a potential managerial target. In the lead-up to the Palace defeat, The Peoples Person relayed that United had allegedly made contact with the representatives of Hansi Flick to inquire about his availability. Suddenly, it appears as if former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has reentered the race to become United’s next manager. This is not the first time that the Italian has been linked with the club. Prior to Ten Hag’s appointment, rumours emerged claiming that Conte could replace then-United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. While such reports never came true, Conte’s name is yet again being thrown around as discussions over Ten Hag’s successor take centre stage. Italian news outlet RaiNews claimed that Conte has been considered by Napoli as a managerial candidate, however, the club has not advanced negotiations to secure a deal. This leaves him on the market. Given this development, Sport Witness suggested that a move to United could be a possibility for Conte, claiming that a new manager could form part of INEOS’s staff overhaul of the club. Still, even with a plethora of managerial candidates being linked with the club, United are yet to announce a decision on Ten Hag’s future, causing mass anxiety for concerned United fans. Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has admitted that he’s still reeling from his team’s CAF Champions Legue exit. The Brazilians were ousted by Esperance de Tunis 2-0 on aggregate, and thus failing to make it to the final. The positive side of all that, though, is that Sundowns managed to qualify for the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament. And while, under Mokwena’s tutelage, Sundowns have already won a double – the DStv Premiership title and the African Football League – the 37-year-old is still hurt by the loss to Esperance. He believes Sundowns did all they could to reach the final and possibly win it for the first time since 2016 under Pitso Mosimane. However, Mokwena feels he let the club and everybody surrounded to Sundowns down by failing to win this year’s CAF Champions League. Furthermore, the possibility of finishing the league season unbeaten having already secured the title doesn’t excites Mokwena at all. Well, at least for now since their CAF Champions League wound is still fresh. Sundowns would make history in PSL football if they are to finish the season unbeaten. As things stand, Sundowns have won 19 and drawn just five of their 24 league games. They are on 62 points. SUNDOWNS MENTOR RULANI STILL NOT HEALED “No, I’m still reeling, and I’m talking personally. Darwin Nunez has been in the spotlight after deleting Instagram posts and unconvincing performances, and now Luis Suarez has seized his chance to send his countryman a message. Liverpool are currently showing ‘no indication‘ of giving up on their No. 9, but he is at one of his lowest points since joining the club. With criticism coming at him more fiercely, Suarez made the most of an opportunity to pass on a message to his fellow Uruguayan after Nunez replied with ‘idol’ to his most recent post on X. Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Joseph Malongoane is still playing football on the green grass and he is not yet willing to stop at 36. JOSEPH MALONGOANE STILL HUNGRY TO PLAY After enjoying a season in Limpopo with Sunrise FC in the ABC Motsepe League, the 36-year-old Malongoane is not thinking about hanging his boots yet. “I still have many years of playing left, my brother. With my age and body structure, I am confident that I can continue playing for many more years,” the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker said via FARPost. “To be honest with you, not like I’m disrespecting anyone, or I’m just saying, but I think I can still play four more seasons. I love challenges. I’m one person who never thought that I’d be in the middle of the guys and co-coaching and stuff. But now, here I am coaching. I love the fact that experience makes a difference and has an impact on these youngsters,” the former Kaizer Chiefs star added. “I have started to love this little thing that I’m doing, which is coaching. I’m getting used to it bit by bit. So, I give myself a lot of time to learn, and I think it’s something I can consider moving forward,” Malongoane concluded. WILLARD KATSANDE TO COACH KAIZER CHIEFS Talking about former Kaizer Chiefs players, Katsande is planning to coach Amakhosi. The Zimbabwean legend arrived at Amakhosi in 2011 from Ajax Cape Town. Katsande went to play a remarkable 310 games that included the winning of two DStv Premiership titles. The former Kaizer Chiefs number six later finished his career at Sekhukhune United. Speaking on Robert Marawa’s Worldwide Sports show, the 38-year-old confidently manifested his vision to coach Amakhosi in four years. Katsande said he will win trophies that include the league title. “Are you going to coach Kaizer Chiefs? Marawa asked. “Yes, very soon,” Katsande responded. “As soon as I finish my qualifications. I am busy with my soccer school now. I’m preparing myself. “As soon as I’m done with my qualifications, I will do that [coach Kaizer Chiefs] and then go to my national team [Zimbabwe], because I believe I need to give back to my national team. “How many years do you give yourself to coach Kaizer Chiefs?” Marawa asked. “I think four,” Katsande answered. “Not just a coach, but a coach who’s going to win a trophy and the league. I’m going to try to change the game, and the way people see Kaizer Chiefs,” the former number six concluded.

Despite Mamelodi Sundowns‘ incredible dominance in the DStv Premiership, Orlando Pirates have been something special in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup. Coach Jose Riveiro has broken it down. The reigning Nedbank Cup champions then beat Chippa United to confirm a meeting with Sundowns in the final on 1 June. Orlando Pirates coach Riveiro told his players that four finals in two seasons are not normal and they should cherish these memorable events. “It is unique to be in four finals in two seasons. I think it is not usual. It tells a lot of good things about the process that is going through in our club,” Riveiro as quoted by the Citizen. “I said to the players after the game that the ones who managed to take us to the finals last season, many of them are not in the field right now or not in the team at all. RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG FOR YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON Stellenbosch FC’s Devin Titus was a hot favourite for the Young Player of the Season a week ago but a new update has suddenly turned things around in favour of Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng. The Bishop Lavis-born Titus went ahead on goal contributions when he scored last week as Stellies beat Golden Arrows 3-0 at the Danie Craven Stadium. Titus marked 12 goals and three assists in 34 games. Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League has confirmed changes to the Young Player of the Season criteria, and they favour the Orlando Pirates attacker. The new update says the award can only be won by players under the age of 21, rather than 23. “The player must be under the age of 21 years old on 1 January in the year that the DStv Premiership season commences“, meaning candidates must be U21 and younger. This has alerted many clubs to the possibility of a cut-price deal for the 22 year old, with United reportedly looking at a figure of around £30 million for the former Golden Boy nominee. Getafe themselves have openly campaigned to keep Greenwood on loan another year, but with United preferring a sale, president Torres has admitted it is a long shot. “If it depends on the parents and the club, I think he will continue for another year,” he said. “Manchester’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. Without skipper Bruno Fernandes, the attack looked toothless and at the back, Jonny Evans was forced to start alongside Casemiro due to Harry Maguire’s injury, which meant this was the 14th different centre-back partnership used this campaign. As manager Erik ten Hag has pointed out time and time again, injuries have affected the way he wants the team to play but that surely cannot be an excuse for keeping on playing in the same reckless manner for the entire season. His playing style does not work and at this rate, the Wembley showpiece occasion could turn out to be a humiliation. It is imperative that INEOS fix things right away. A new manager bounce could do wonders! Casemiro was so poor vs Palace And one player that needs to follow the Dutchman out of the door is Casemiro, who was at fault for three of the four goals conceded against the Eagles. Asked to play as the right-sided centre-back, he was everywhere except in his position for almost the entire game and his tendency of sliding into challenges cost the Red Devils big time. The first two goals saw Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze glide past his unnecessary challenges with ease and despite the obvious concerns, Ten Hag never bothered to correct things. He was directly responsible for the fourth as he tried to shepherd the ball out of play only to get robbed and at times, it looked like the Brazilian had given up. This is a five-time Champions League winner we are talking about. Sure, he is not a centre-back but with the team reeling under injuries, surely he could have used his head a bit more. Casemiro needs to go At the age of 32 with his legs starting to give up, United will find it difficult to recoup even half the amount they paid for his services two summers ago. Not to forget that he is the highest earner at the club with wages of £350,000 per week, How could the club offer the former Real Madrid superstar a five-year contract at his age? The club is rotten to the core and no wonder INEOS want to move the player on. As per Teamtalk, the Brazilian was “offered” directly to Al-Nassr in January with former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo trying his best to get his mate over there. Ahead of the summer window, three Saudi Pro League clubs are now in the running with the 20-time English league champions holding out for £30 million. “Negotiations are currently ongoing with important figures in the Gulf State to better understand which club best suits Casemiro. Saudi interest from three clubs “In addition to Al-Nassr – the club of his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo – sources say that Al-Ahli, who are actively looking for a new midfielder, and Al Hilal are in the race for his signature. “If the Brazilian gives the green light to a move, the Saudi negotiators will open talks with Man Utd, who are looking to receive around €35m (approx. £30m) for him.” United are of the opinion that Saudi clubs will have no trouble in paying this much for such a decorated star. Orlando Pirates are believed to be ready to go into the market for a few forwards in the off-season.  It is thought that Pirates will also offload some forwards to make room for some of their top attacking targets. The club was already active in the January transfer window but didn’t sign any attackers. The likes of Thabiso Lebitso and Talent Mbatha were roped in by Pirates, who then saw Bienvenu Eva Nga released. Then perhaps, the biggest outgoing was that of club stalwart Thembinkosi Lorch. The playmaker shocked the local football fraternity by securing a deadline-day move to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. It is not expected that Pirates will be as idle when it comes to attacking signing in the off-season, however. The club have already been linked to a plethora of targets in that department. Some of those targets have been touted to be closer to joining than others. Off late, there have been about eight attackers linked to the club. Some of them being local and others being international.  Pirates interested in Cupido? According to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates have gone back to one of their striker targets from the previous season. This being in the shape of Ashley Cupido of Cape Town Spurs. “Pirates didn’t want to disturb Cape Town Spurs. That’s why they only proposed that they could only get Ashley (Cupido) if Spurs are relegated. They want to keep the youngster in the DStv Premiership next season and he is one of their targets on top of the ones they have already inquired about,” said the source.  Chiefs and Sundowns also in the picture previously Cupido was a striker in demand at the beginning of the current season. This was due to his 16 goals for Spurs that helped them gain promotion to the topflight. This saw the likes of Pirates and arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs competing with Mamelodi Sundowns for his signature. In the end, he remained in the Cape and has only scored six goals in his 23 appearances. At just the age of 23, would a move to Pirates be able to unleash Cupido’s true potential next season?

Riveiro says the game against Chippa will be decided by small margins. Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is expecting a different Chippa United side when the teams meet again in a DStv Premiership clash at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm. The game between Chippa and Pirates was marred by an exchange of unsavoury words between the opposing benches after Chippa’s Eva Nga was shown a red card. After the match, Chippa co-coach Kwanele Kopo accused his Pirates counterpart of provoking Nga and also said Riveiro used foul language towards his bench. Riveiro, however, denied this during the post-match interview. All eyes will be on the two coaches to see how they react to each other when they meet again at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Riveiro said he was expecting a tight game against Chippa, adding that it will be decided by small margins. “The way Chippa is going to approach [the game] is something that is not in my sight, it’s something the opponents will decide,” Riveiro told the media after the game in Gqeberha. “But we were in a similar scenario a few weeks ago when we played AmaZulu in the quarter-final [of the Nedbank Cup] and three days later, we hosted them in Orlando and it was a really difficult game because after this 90 minutes, we know each other even better. “So I’m sure it’s going to be a very tight game against Chippa, that is going to be decided by very small margins.” ALSO READ: Mokwena echoes Jurgen Klopp’s thoughts about fatigue Kopo, whose side are currently 10th on the log with 32 points after 26 games, is unsure of what to expect when the sides meet on Wednesday. “I don’t know how Wednesday is going to be. After 15 years at Liverpool, goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has decided to seek a new challenge, and it is set to reunite him with Steven Gerrard. Achterberg’s contract expires in the summer, and despite belief he would help welcome in another new manager, he elected to depart in search of a fresh challenge. In an emotional thank you letter posted on Instagram, the 52-year-old said his decision came with a “heavy heart,” but that it “could be right for me to start a new challenge.” And according to the Mirror‘s chief football writer, Simon Mullock, that is to take him to Saudi Arabia to work under Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq. Achterberg “has been offered” to take his next job as part of Gerrard’s coaching staff, which would reunite the pair after both being at Liverpool from 2009 to 2015. It would be a somewhat surprise move for Achterberg, who has been based on Merseyside since 1998, having worked at Tranmere before first joining Liverpool’s academy. Achterberg would be a coup for Gerrard, though. He is full of experience and knows how to identify goalkeeping talent, having previously told This Is Anfield he searches “all the leagues to see if there are new goalies coming up.” Gerrard held on to his position at Al-Ettifaq despite early criticism and, in fact, signed an extension in January to keep him in the role until 2027. Dominik Szoboszlai has conceded he may have “set the bar too high” for his debut season at Anfield, with an impressive start to the campaign preceding a drop in output. The Hungary captain arrived last summer and instantly impressed with the energy and impetus he injected into the midfield, something Jurgen Klopp‘s side had been severely lacking. Szoboszlai started all but eight of the first 29 matches before injury struck, with two separate spells out with the same hamstring injury keeping him sidelined for 10 games. He hasn’t been quite the same since, and that can be said of a number of players who returned from injury, with the No. 8 completing 90 minutes just twice since the start of March. Having started the campaign well before dropping off, Szoboszlai has acknowledged that his expectations for his first season at Liverpool may have been higher than was realistic. “Perhaps I set the bar too high because I think there were certain matches where I couldn’t bring out the best in myself,” he said in an interview with MLSZ TV. “Or there are times when you don’t play well and in some people’s eyes you’re the worst player on the pitch, but it is not a problem because we get through these things together.” Szoboszlai has thick skin when it comes to criticism, evidently, and he is clearly self-aware when it comes to dips in his performances. As for what the 23-year-old had to learn quickly after moving from Leipzig to Liverpool, he said: “The (Premier League) is quicker, here you don’t have as much time to think as in the Bundesliga. “Here you really need to know what you’d like to do with the ball before you receive it because if you don’t, you pretty much have no chance.” And if players are exhausted, as Szoboszlai has appeared to be in recent weeks, the ability to do just that clearly becomes harder! It’s a different story if we were introducing a football coach that is not known to clubs in this country, but I don’t think we should make a formal move unless there is interest, a genuine interest from the club itself not through the media,” he added. Makaab further revealed that they are still in talks with Sundowns over a new contract, adding that there’s a big chance for the former Golden Arrows coach to remain at Chloorkop. “We are still in discussions with Mamelodi Sundowns, Manqoba is committed to the club. Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Molangoane has no plans to retire from football. The 36-year-old currently plays for ABC Motsepe League side Sunrise FC. He has been in the books of Platinum Stars, Chippa United, AmaZulu, Chiefs and Pirates. Speaking to FARPost, Molangoane said he still had four years left in him to play football  “I still have many years of playing left, my brother. With my age and body structure, I am confident that I can continue playing for many more years,” he said. Ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates midfielder still going “To be honest with you, not like I’m disrespecting anyone, or I’m just saying, but I think I can still play four more seasons.” Molangoane is one of the players who featured for both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. Having played professional football for 14 years, the midfielder says he would love to go into coaching. “I love challenges. I’m one person who never thought that I’d be in the middle of the guys and co-coaching and stuff. But now, here I am coaching. he told the publication. “I love the fact that experience makes a difference and has an impact on these youngsters.” “I have started to love this little thing that I’m doing, which is coaching. I’m getting used to it bit by bit. So, I give myself a lot of time to learn, and I think it’s something I can consider moving forward.” Earlier this year, the former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs attacker resurfaced at PLatinum City Rovers. Meaning, he has overtaken fan-favorite Pitso Mosimane as well as Pep Guardiola’s confidant, Raul Caneda. “They have looked at what he has achieved and how his team play. That’s how things are now,” he added on the same publication. 2) RAUL CANEDA – PEP GUARDIOLA’S CONFIDANT Caneda is currently the second favourite. Moreover, he was the initial favourite a few days ago, according to Goal. Therefore, these two men are both being strongly considered by the Amakhosi hierarchy despite the likes of Mosimane, Benni McCarthy and Amakhosi legend, ‘Ace’ Khuse, all set to be available. Caneda is referred to as Guardiola’s confidant due to his role in recruiting and helping English Premier League and European giants Manchester City. However, he has not coached any side since 2020. 3) PITSO MOSIMANE (CHIEFS DREAM PICK) The dream remains a possibility. Mosimane to Chiefs is still alive and Amakhosi have their best chance yet to secure ‘Jingles’. However, Vitoria and Caneda are currently ahead on the pecking order. The good news is that Mosimane will be available at the end of the season having signed a short-term deal with Al Abha. So, it is now up to Amakhosi to make him an offer. In fact, the original plan was for Mosimane to replace Johnson at the end of the season. Fingers crossed, Amakhosi. 4) ACE KHUSE – AMAKHOSI LEGEND ‘Ace” Khuse has been linked with the Chiefs job. His name and reputation precedes him as one of the best players to ever represent the Soweto giants. The fact that he has been mentioned and is being looked means that he is being considered. He knows the club very well and would certainly inspire his players given his legacy. Unfortunately, he lacks experience coaching at the highest-level and Amakhosi do not want to repeat recent mistakes. They through young coach Arthur Zwane into the deep end to fast when he became head coach prior to Molefi Ntseki appointment last season. 5) MANQOBA MNGQITHI – MIXED REPORTS At the start of the season, Mngqithi stated that he wants to join Chiefs at the end of the season. However, his agent rubbished these claims. “We have not had a formal approach from Kaizer Chiefs for Manqoba. Darwin Nunez‘s future has been thrust into the spotlight with his performances, but there’s no current indication he’s going anywhere in the summer. Liverpool’s No. 9 has endeared himself to fans since joining the club in 2022, but he has equally frustrated by missing big chances and continually finding himself offside. He is still only 24 and has 33 goals and 17 assists in 94 outings, but with plenty of change coming in the summer, doubts over his future have surfaced. The Mail‘s Lewis Steele, though, noted that currently “there is no indication that Liverpool are in a hurry to give up on Nunez after just two seasons.” The caveat to that is that they would “struggle to recoup the mega-fee they paid,” which could rise to £85 million, somewhat tying an arm behind Liverpool’s back when assessing Nunez’s future. Nunez has widely been credited as a Jurgen Klopp signing, and his summer departure, in addition to the hierarchy at the club changing, will see the No. 9’s advocates quickly dwindle. There is a player there, but Nunez deleting every trace of him in a Liverpool kit off his Instagram, in addition to his dejected body language, shows a player who may have indicated his desires. With Liverpool having paid a hefty transfer fee and with Nunez holding a contract until 2028, it cannot be as simple as the Uruguayan checking out, if he has, in fact, done so. Nunez’s future will, no doubt, continue to be debated for the remainder of the season and into the summer, but we can be certain Liverpool will not rush into any decision as they navigate their biggest summer change in almost a decade.

Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali is expected to make a decision on his future in the near future. Jali has been out of the game since his dismissal from Moroka Swallows in January, and there has been little focus on him and his next career step. This despite all the noise that was made soon after unceremoniously leaving Sundowns in February 2023. The veteran midfielder was heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs but it’s now public knowledge that the two parties couldn’t agree terms. At the time, Cape Town City and AmaZulu were also reported to be keen on him but Jali ended up signing for Swallows. However, his stay at the Dube Birds was cut short after he was found guilty of a player strike that ensued in December 2023, and the club terminated his contract. Jali is now a free agent, but no team has publicly showed interest in his services at this stage but his agent Mike Makaab is hoping to secure him a deal in the near future. Makaab believes Jali still has a lot to offer the local game despite uncertainties on whether he still wants to play or not. But he won’t just sign with any team but a club that ticks all professional boxes, according to the former Bucs coach. ANDILE JALI UPDATE ON HIS FUTURE “So, with Andile Jali, there have been conversations regarding his future. We know how much he is loved by football lovers,” Makaab told Far Post. “I mean, Jali had a wonderful career, and we have to look at a decision that is favourable for him. We are very confident that he still has a lot to offer.” “His next move has to be with a club that ticks all professional boxes. If he makes the decision to continue, we will fully support that. Hopefully, the decision about his future can be final soon,” added Makaab. WHICH TEAMS ARE LIKELY TO SIGN THE EX-BAFANA BAFANA STAR? While it may be difficult to predict which teams are likely to sign Jali at this stage, chances of him signing with a mid-table club are huge. For starters, AmaZulu have become known for signing experienced stars, and so far, those players have done well for them. The same can be said about Sekhukhune United but whether or not Jali would be interested in playing for those teams remains to be seen. The likelihood of Chiefs going for Jali appears to be non-existent at this stage with all the challenges they are currently facing.

“It looks like Mokotjo will be leaving the club from what I can gather,” a source close to the club told Mgosi squad. Sekhukhune United risk losing the services of Kamohelo Mokotjo who has yet to renew his contract with the club. Mike Makaab has dismissed rumours that Kaizer Chiefs have made a move for Manqoba Mngqithi. Mngqithi is going nowhere, for now According to iDiskiTimes, the Sundowns senior coach, who’s been with the club for 11 years, isn’t leaving. He’s been heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs by the local media in 2024. Currently the head of first-team football, the 53-year-old has held senior head coaching roles at AmaZulu, Chippa and Golden Arrows in the past. Speaking on Gagasi FM, Makaab explained Chiefs haven’t approached them about Mngqithi. “We have not had a formal approach from Kaizer Chiefs for Manqoba. I don’t think the onus should sit on us to make that approach,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM. “It’s a different story, if we were introducing a football coach that is not known to clubs in this country. “I don’t think we should make a formal move unless there’s interest from the club itself not through the media.” Sundowns are reportedly discussing a new contract with Mngqithi but nothing concrete has been decided yet. Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena will not finish the season satisfied. He feels he let the club down in the CAF Champions League. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COACH RULANI MOKWENA NOT HAPPY The club known as Kabo Yellow won the African Football League on 5 November 2023, before they sealed the DStv Premiership for the seventh consecutive last week. The Nedbank Cup final is coming for Sundowns against Orlando Pirates in June, yet coach Mokwena, is not a happy man because of the CAFCL loss to Esperance in the semi-finals. “No, I’m still reeling and I’m talking personally. Someone tried to console me and said you have a double already with the AFL and the league so why are you still reeling? But I’m reeling because I feel like I’ve let the club down, let the supporters down and this group down because it’s my job to lead,” Mokwena said via the Citizen on whether the two trophies have made him feel better. The Sundowns tactician, who is still only 37-years-old, added: “When we fail, it’s my job to stand in front and assume the responsibility so I don’t think it will make up for it. We deserved to be in the semifinals of the champions league and based on the performance in the second leg, I think we did enough to give ourselves a chance to be in the final but things didn’t go our way. “When I say you need luck in the Champions League, that’s exactly what I mean. I’ve got to accept but it doesn’t minimise the pain and I’ve already apologised to the club and I can apologise again for that failure and take it on my shoulders but that doesn’t mean you don’t try again because eventually we will win the Champions League,” the Sundowns mentor added. JAYDEN ADAMS FROM STELLENBOSCH As previously reported across local media, Sundowns set eyes on the 23-year-old midfielder from Iddas Valley, Stellenbosch. According to his boss, Kabo Yellow did make an enquiry in January, but there was nothing more to that. “Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie has confirmed interest from Mamelodi Sundowns in midfielder Jayden Adams, but further told SABC Sport there was no formal bid yet from the league champions,” the national broadcaster reported. “The truth is Mamelodi Sundowns made an enquiry in the January window, [and] we informed them he is not available for sale,” Benadie said via SABC Sport. “No further discussions have taken place at all. So yes they are interested in the player. But no offer has been tabled and certainly no deal concluded,” Benadie added.

Zwane is on the verge of a new Sundowns deal According to The Citizen, the man known affectionately as “Mshishi” is close to signing a new contract with Rulani Mokwena’s team. This follows after the club extended Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams’ stay at Chloorkop. Zwane, the flamboyantly talented playmaker, has made 37 appearances for the newly-crowned South African champions this season across all competitions. That’s a serious tally for a guy approaching the twilight of his career, but there’s still life left in the old dog. His experience was heavily leaned upon in the CAF Champions League as the Brazilians reached the semi-finals and Zwane made 10 appearances. His current contract expires in June but the club are keen to tie him down to another three years. “Talks over a new contract started a long time ago, but there were some minor glitches that they needed to iron out, like the length of the contract and so on. They initially offered him a one-year deal and he was not happy with that. Now they have offered him a two-year deal with an option of an additional year and he is happy,” said the source. “Sundowns know how important Mshishi is to the club and even at his age, he has always delivered so they want to keep him.
