Meanwhile, a possible failure to beat the Urban Warriors will give the likes of AmaZulu, Golden Arrows and Polokwane City an opportunity to sneak into the top eight. GOALKEEPER CHASE In other news, Amakhosi are reportedly battling Orlando Pirates for the signature of a top goalkeeper from Premeiro de Agosto of Angola. the club known as Amakhosi have been linked with the likes of Stanley Nwabali from Chippa United, and Salim Magoola from Richards Bay FC. Pep Guardiola names Bruno Fernandes as the player with unbelievable influence at Man United Man United News And Transfer News
1 The FA Cup final tomorrow is where Manchester United’s season will make or break. In fact, so bad has their performance been in other competitions that it will determine whether there is something to remember at all or just write it off as a long-running nightmare. Manchester City come into the game on the back of a record fourth-consecutive Premier League title. United have picked up some semblance of form as well, winning their last two league games but people will hardly mark Erik ten Hag’s side as the favourites for this one. However, Pep Guardiola has urged his players to be aware of the threat the Red Devils pose, having already been burned once at Old Trafford last year when not many gave United a chance. Guardiola waxed lyrical about United’s quality upfront and picked out captain Bruno Fernandes as the player with the most influence. He brushed aside comparisons with Real Madrid, who also conjured up magical moments to knock out City from the Champions League, but nonetheless was aware of the challenges a fit United side can pose. He said: “Real Madrid is Real Madrid, comparing to them is difficult. They have some very good players up front. The influence of Bruno is unbelievable.” The Spaniard also backed Ten Hag, saying that he had a tough job on his hands this year due to the sheer amount of injuries to his team. He said: “I have huge respect for the job he has done. He has had a lot of injuries. They had a lot of problems. The squad is really good but if they are injured you cannot use them.” Not many United fans would take Guardiola’s comments at face value as he has had a history of making complimentary comments about teams he doesn’t consider a threat. Having said that, both of his statements are somewhat correct, especially picking out Fernandes as the heart of this United team. Now to just put his actions into words from the United captain and bring home the club’s second cup in two years and avenge the defeat in last year’s final. Barcelona sack coach Xavi after trophyless season
Barcelona sack coach Xavi after trophyless season
Former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick is heavily tipped to replace Xavi. Barcelona sacked coach Xavi Hernandez on Friday after the Catalan giants failed to win a trophy this season but just weeks since he and club president Joan Laporta agreed he would stay in the post. ALSO READ: Barcelona coach Xavi set for sack – reports Xavi will take charge of the team’s final La Liga match on Sunday at Sevilla before departing. “Barcelona president Joan Laporta has told Xavi Hernandez he will not continue as coach for the 2024-25 season,” said Barcelona in a statement. Former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick is heavily tipped to replace Xavi. In January, Xavi said he would leave at the end of the season but, after a run of strong form, in April he and president Laporta agreed the coach would stay for the next campaign, with his contract expiring in June 2025. However, the situation quickly changed with Spanish media reporting Laporta was angered by Xavi’s comments suggesting it was hard for the financially-hamstrung club to compete with Real Madrid and other elite European sides. “Barcelona want to thank Xavi for his work as coach, which adds to his unmatchable career as a player and the captain of the first team, and wish him all the best in the future,” continued Barcelona’s statement. “In the coming days, Barcelona will reveal the new coaching structure for the first team staff.” Barcelona won La Liga last season but were not able to successfully defend the title in the current campaign. They were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Paris Saint-Germain, were hammered by Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final and lost to Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey. When Xavi, 44, made his U-turn to stay, it appeared he and Barcelona were remaining together in a marriage of convenience. “It’s great news that Xavi is staying,” said Laporta on April 25. “The team we have, that is (still) consolidating, with very young players, needs that stability. “Xavi is a reference for young players and we can see that — today I’m especially pleased, and the board have unanimously supported this decision.” Less than a month later Barcelona’s tempestuous president changed his mind. Xavi insisted over the past fortnight he was still looking forward to coaching the club next season and felt he had the confidence of Laporta. Barcelona’s chief appointed Xavi in November 2021 to replace Ronald Koeman, aiming to raise the club back to its pedestal after years of struggle in Europe following their 2015 Champions League triumph. As a player Xavi made 767 appearances for the Catalan club, behind only Lionel Messi, winning eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues among other trophies. ALSO READ: Ten Hag faces Man United judgement day as Man City eye history For years Xavi insisted his dream was to coach Barcelona but in January he said the job was “cruel” and took a toll on him mentally. Xavi’s likely replacement Flick, 59, has not coached since Germany sacked him in 2023 after a poor run of results. Previously Flick steered Bayern to a treble in 2020, including an 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

James Scanlon tied down with first professional contract Man United News And Transfer News
1 James Scanlon has put pen to paper on his first professional contract at Manchester United. The club have managed to tie down the highly-rated 17-year-old academy graduate. It has been an eventful season for the youngster, a key member of the treble winning U18s, Scanlon also made his senior international debut in March for Gibraltar. Playing well beyond his years not just at international level, Scanlon also debuted for the club’s U21s at just 16 years of age and already has 10 appearances at that level. A versatile attacking midfielder, he is comfortable on either wing or through the middle in a number 10 role. Having now signed professional terms, Scanlon will be looking to take the next step which will include solidifying himself as a regular in the U21s and with the U19s, who will be seen in action in next season’s UEFA Youth League campaign. Scanlon is already a tactically astute player, and with the advantage of his Gibraltar senior experience, don’t be surprised to see the youngster break into senior club football at a young age, whether on loan or at United. Perhaps understated at times behind more flashier players, it is clear Scanlon is rated highly at the club and he has produced the goods with eight goals in 12 appearances for the U18s in their league-winning campaign. A good allrounder, Scanlon possesses a high level of technical skill on the ball combined with clever movement in the final third and a relentless work ethic. Signing from Derby County in 2021, Scanlon was amongst a trio of signings from the Midlands club alongside Malachi Sharpe and Sekou Kaba. He wasn’t the only Scanlon to join the club either, his younger brother Luca Scanlon is currently part of United’s U15s group. For now though it is James Scanlon who is paving his path through the United academy and taking a step closer to the first team. Arne Slot arrives in Liverpool ahead of official unveiling Liverpool FC
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been spotted on Merseyside ahead of officially starting his job on June 1. Slot was announced as the new head coach of Liverpool on Monday, less than 24 hours after Jurgen Klopp‘s final game in charge on Sunday. On the same day, Slot’s Feyenoord were also playing at home as they bid farewell to the Dutch coach who is taking over at Anfield. Now, just five days after the 45-year-old’s last match in the Netherlands, he is on Merseyside getting acquainted with his new surroundings. On Thursday, Slot was seen at the two Michelin-starred Moor Hall Restaurant near Ormskirk, where he was photographed with chef Mark Birchall. The restaurant is a short drive from where Slot is expected to live, Formby. Slot was also spotted at other locations in Liverpool, with Michael Deane of Hat, Scarf or a Badge reporting he was seen coming out the players’ entrance at Anfield on Thursday night. Writing on X, he said: “Was walking to an event at Hotel Anfield tonight when we seen a Range Rover coming out the players entrance at Anfield, it was only Arne Slot. “Couldn’t get my phone out quick enough but give him the thumbs up, he responded with a big smile and a thumbs up. He looked happy.” While Slot doesn’t officially start his new job until June 1, he will no doubt want to settle quickly on Merseyside to ensure a good pre-season. The transition comes with Klopp departing Anfield after 491 games in charge, along with coaches Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, John Achterberg and Jack Robinson and fitness staff Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger. Slot is clearly keen to get started and has already brought the start of pre-season forward to the first week of July, according to the Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe. While he has been left with a strong squad, there is plenty of work for the new boss to do ahead of the season beginning on August 17.

Top PSL coach linked to the Kaizer Chiefs job finally responds
TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has finally responded to rumours linking him with the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job. The 45-year-old German has done well for the Rockets this season making him one of the most sought-after coaches in the league. He guided Galaxy to the Carling Knockout final and his team currently lies fourth in the DStv Premiership. Asked if he would coach Kaizer Chiefs, Ramovic said his loyalty was with his current team. “I’m the coach for this beautiful club TS Galaxy, I have a contract. I’m very happy to be here,” Ramovic told Marawa Sports Worldwide. “Besides that, we all know that Chiefs is a wonderful club. Probably the most beautiful club in South Africa. “But this doesn’t change the fact that I’m happy where I am now and where I stay,” he said. TS Galaxy coach not interested in Kaizer Chiefs? Ramovic had suddenly emerged as one of the candidates to take over the hot seat at Amakhosi. Speaking to Robert Marawa, the German claims he was unaware of the speculation. “I don’t know Robert, maybe because we are doing a good job with our team now,” Ramovic said. “But as I said I don’t know, we just have to focus on our club to improve even more. And everything else is just a future because right now the present is the most important thing. “And this is where we enjoy a lot with all my players, this is just a beautiful time,” he concluded. This week, TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi said Ramovic could turn Kaizer Chiefs around if he’s appointed as coach. Ramovic still has a contract with Galaxy “I’ve heard rumours that our coach is wanted by Chiefs, these are rumours we have not been approached” However, I want a strong Kaizer Chiefs. I love him, he is my coach, but he(Ramovic) is a coach that could turn Chiefs around and South Africa needs a strong Kaizer Chiefs,” Sukazi said. Amakhosi have been searching for a new coach since the club parted ways with Molefi Ntseki in October. Cavin Johnson, who tool over as interim coach, will take charge of his last game this weekend.

Maswanganyi overlooked for PSL Footballer of the Season why?
Maswanganyi overlooked for PSL Footballer of the Season why?
Maswanganyi did not make the cut for the coveted PSL Footballer of the Season Award. Despite earning as many nominations as any other players in various categories. The Premier Soccer League Awards revealed the nominees on Friday afternoon. Highlighting Orlando Pirates star Maswanganyi in four categories: MTN8 Last Man Standing, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season, and DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season. Maswanganyi’s Impressive but Overlooked Performances Maswanganyi’s stellar season saw him compete in four different categories. Showcasing his incredible versatility and crowd favourite skill. However, the top honour eluded him completely. Instead, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena, and Stellenbosch striker Iqraam Rayners secured the nominations for Footballer of the Season. The Contenders: Rayners, Williams, and Mokoena Iqraam Rayners, who also bagged four nominations including Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, and DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season. Rayners is also just one goal behind Tshegofatso Mabasa for the DStv Premiership Golden Boot. Ronwen Williams stands out with three nominations: Goalkeeper of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, and Footballer of the Season. Meanwhile, Teboho Mokoena, despite not being nominated in other categories, made the shortlist for Footballer of the Season. But this due to his exceptional consistent performances with Sundowns. This nomination is particularly intriguing as it comes solely from votes by PSL coaches, differing from the other categories’ voting processes. Pirates’ Dominance in Nominations Orlando Pirates dominated the nominations, with six players and head coach Jose Riveiro up for various awards. Riveiro faces stiff competition for Coach of the Season from Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena and Stellenbosch’s Steve Barker. Sipho Chaine and Zakhele Lepasa joined Maswanganyi in the MTN8 Last Man Standing nominations. Tapelo Xoki is in the running for Defender of the Season, competing against Sundowns’ Grant Kekana and Stellies’ Deano Van Rooyen. Rising Stars and Promising Talent Tshegofatso Mabasa, another standout from Pirates, joins Maswanganyi and Rayners as a nominee for Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament. Relebohile Mofokeng emerges as a strong favourite for both the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player Award and the Young Player of the Season Award. Patrick Maswanganyi’s exclusion from the Footballer of the Season nominations raises eyebrows, considering his widespread recognition across multiple categories. As the awards season progresses, the focus will remain on the selected nominees and their quest for glory. Could it be that he was not able to carry Orlando Pirates to a league title? Well that is certainly a viable argument.

Antony is the best in the Premier League for winning possession back in the final third Man United News And Transfer News
Antony is the best in the Premier League for winning possession back in the final third Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s Antony surprisingly leads the Premier League in the amount of times he has won back possession in the final third this year. The Brazilian has endured a season from hell and seems to have lost his place in the starting lineup to fan favourite Amad Diallo. Such has been the form of the former Ajax man that he is unlikely to start the FA Cup final on Saturday against Manchester City. He has played 38 games this season, scoring three times while providing two assists. Poor numbers for a £86 million signing, even though the massive price is not his fault. However a recent Premier League statistic has highlighted the one thing the winger is good at. Antony won possession in the final third per 90 more than ANYONE else in the Premier League this season. pic.twitter.com/qoyTOKp2Gt — Frank (fan) (@TenHagEra) May 20, 2024 Antony leads the league in terms of most possessions won back in the final third per 90 minutes of action. He wins possession back on average 1.7 times a match in the upper regions of the pitch and this is substantially more than Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Everton’s Beto who win the ball 1.4 times a game, in joint second place. Erik ten Hag spoke at the start of the season that he wanted to transform the team into the best transition team in the world. He wants his team to press high and aggressively up the pitch, and punish opposition mistakes in a flash. United certainly have the pace upfront to do this with Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford. However, what has been missing this season is a unified pressing structure from back to front with Ten Hag’s men too easy to play around. They have ironically ended up defending more transitions than they have actually managed to create. No winger should be deemed a success due to how much they press, especially an £86 million signing. It is not only a numbers game when it comes to analysing Antony. He regularly fails to get involved in games and when he does, he often loses the ball running into blind alleys or taking very little care with his passing, much to the frustration of United fans around the globe. This commitment to carrying out his coach’s instructions and do the dirty work probably explains why Ten Hag was so eager to keep him in the lineup earlier in the season, even when it was obvious to most that he wasn’t good enough so start regularly at a club like Manchester United. His poor form has meant that there have been rumours that the club are open to offloading him in the summer and should Erik ten Hag also leave, the chances of the Brazilian departing will also go up substantially. Pirates eager to bounce back against SuperSport
Pirates face the difficult task of beating SuperSport who are unbeaten in their past four matches. Orlando Pirates will be hoping to grab a last-gasp spot in next season’s Caf Champions League when they take on SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday. ALSO READ: Pirates’ Maswanganyi misses out on Footballer of the Season The Buccaneers come into this game at the back of back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Richards Bay FC and TS Galaxy. Despite those losses, Pirates are still in the running for a second place finish. But they need a better result than Stellenbosch, who play at Richards Bay on Saturday, to finish second. Stellies are second with 50 points and the Buccaneers are third with 49 with both teams having played 29 matches. Pirates face the difficult task of beating SuperSport who are unbeaten in their past four matches, winning two and the other two ending in stalemates. Matsatsantsa a Pitori also got the better of the Buccaneers in the first round of the season, beating them 3-1 at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in December. Shandre Campbell netted a brace for Matsatsantsa and Bradley Grobler added a third. Fortune Makaringe scored a consolation goal for the Buccaneers. Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was left frustrated after the loss against Galaxy last Saturday, but the Spaniard knows that qualifying for the Caf Champions League remains a possibility for the Sea Robbers. “We need to win the game against SuperSport on Saturday and hope Stellenbosch don’t have a good day and if they have a good day, then they’ll be in the Champions League next season and that would be well deserved for them,” said Riveiro. Fifth-placed SuperSport can still qualify for continental football. If they can better fourth placed TS Galaxy’s result, as well as that of two sides below (Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City), then they’ll secure a place in the Caf Confederation Cup. This is enabled by the fact that Pirates will be facing league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final next week Saturday. ALSO READ: SuperSport looking to end season on positive note Meanwhile, Pirates will go into their final league match of the season without the services of defender Nkosinathi Sibisi, who is suspended for this clash after picking up his fourth yellow card of the season in the 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy. SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt, on the other side, will have a full complement of players to choose from as none of his charges are suspended for this clash.

Mabunda praises winning mentality of Mamelodi Sundowns
“I can’t believe that the boys are still so energetic, disciplined and remain so concentrated on winning the remaining games,” he said. All eyes will be at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday as Mamelodi Sundowns will be attempting to do what no other team in the history of the PSL has ever done, and that is to end the season unbeaten.  ALSO READ: SuperSport looking to end season on positive note Should the Brazilians avoid defeat against Cape Town City in their own backyard, they will become South Africa’s first Invincibles. There will be a trophy handover ceremony for the DStv Premiership champions after the game. Sundowns legend and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Tiyani Mabunda is blown away by the unrelenting mentality of the team that is unbeaten in 29 games. “I can’t believe that the boys are still so energetic, disciplined and remain so concentrated on winning the remaining games,” he said on the club’s Pitch Side podcast. “You know it is difficult towards the end of the season. The fact that the boys are still winning even after the league has already been wrapped up and to still have the energy to push and refuse to lose a match is incredible.” It has been an incredible season for Masandawana that could even get better if they win the Nedbank Cup. They have already bagged the league and the African Football League. Orlando Pirates stand in their way of a third piece of silverware. The two rivals will meet in front of a sold-out crowd at the Mbombela Stadium on June 1. “There’s a saying that was once said in our change room in one of our team talks where Coach Manqoba Mngqithi was giving an illustration of a crocodile,” Mabunda recalled. “It eats and can stay for hours without eating. The mouth can still be open without the crocodile wanting to eat but the moment it runs out, it wants to eat again but with this team, it’s totally different because even after winning the league, they want to win another one. ALSO READ: Chiefs’ Ditlhokwe wants to reward fans with MTN8 spot “After winning the African Football League, they want to win something else so they don’t get enough of the success, but success is their driving force. Manchester United vehemently deny meeting with agents of prospective managerial targets Man United News And Transfer News
1 It has been a disastrous season for Manchester United with the club finishing eighth in the Premier League, their lowest-ever finish in the competition, which means they will miss out on European football next season. Manager Erik ten Hag’s chaotic style of play has been seen by most as the main reason behind the team’s downfall. Even when the number of injuries went through the roof, the Dutchman stubbornly kept playing in the same way. The club’s lack of a proper structure meant the Dutchman had unlimited power to wield and things went from bad to worse during the course of the current campaign before INEOS finally arrived. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first port of call has been to fix the behind-the-scenes issues and a new CEO and sporting director are on their way while Jason Wilcox has arrived as technical director. Disastrous season mainly due to EtH’s style The new co-owners are far from impressed with Ten Hag’s style and Wilcox had insisted that the team should not play this way and the new-look team will decide on the future style of the club. The former Ajax coach’s future remains up in the air with reports emerging that Ten Hag is likely to lose his job irrespective of the final outcome of the FA Cup final against Manchester City. The club have been linked with a plethora of managers including Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate and Roberto De Zerbi. Recently, the noise surrounding the managerial situation has reached fever-pitch with Mauricio Pochettino becoming available again and with Kieran Mckenna open to moving from Ipswich Town. The Peoples Person relayed that both managers are open to joining the Red Devils while the club reportedly also met with the former United coach’s entourage. United denying they met agents HITC Football have now revealed that INEOS aure furious with the leaks and are adamant that no decision has been taken regarding the manager’s post with the club fully focussed on Saturday’s summit clash. INEOS strenuously denied meeting with Mckenna’s agent as well. “HITC understands Manchester United are angered by claims they have held talks with potential successors to Erik Ten Hag on the eve of the FA Cup final and insist no decision has been made about the Dutchman. “The latest reports surround the future of Ten Hag – which the club have admitted will be the subject of a review and meetings, which will commence next week after the FA Cup final against local rivals Manchester City. “With that in mind, United have been doing their own due diligence and background checks on potential successors – who they already have in mind, but to suggest they have met with candidates has been strenuously denied by club sources.” The report also mentions that with such a massive change occurring behind-the-scenes at the club, the Dutch boss could still stay on as it would be the less risky move as compared to bringing in someone new. Damage control “HITC understands that United are considering allowing Ten Hag to stay in charge this summer, given how much work they have to do on the transfer front, as they are looking to bring in a number of new faces – with a central defender, midfielder, forward and left-back all on their list of targets. “The thinking is that keeping Ten Hag would allow them to concentrate on their transfers as well as further integrating more new names in their footballing staff.” With the cat already out of the bag, it reads more like damage control at this point. Whether this report is believable or not, one thing is certain, INEOS are looking to the future. One game cannot decide a manager’s fate irrespective of the result. Sir Jim knows what he will get from Ten Hag and there is no point in pretending that a decision is yet to be made. The Dutchman could have saved his job if he had compromised on his style earlier on in the campaign. It is way too late now. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Mo Salah goes bald! Liverpool forward debuts new look on post-season holiday Liverpool FC
Mo Salah goes bald! Liverpool forward debuts new look on post-season holiday Liverpool FC
In a post-season holiday photo on Instagram, Mo Salah has revealed that he has shaved his head and gone bald! With Liverpool players now off on their holidays, we can expect to see updates from far-flung lands before they return for international duty or pre-season training. No image seen this summer will likely be as startling as the one Salah has recently posted to Instagram, though. Looking very relaxed, the Egyptian simply captioned his photo with a laughing, sweating emoji. The image itself shows him in the mirror wearing shorts and a t-shirt, very clearly bald. Who knew Arne Slot was having such an influence already! Let’s just hope this isn’t a Samson-type scenario. Salah is enjoying a short break before he either has to play for Egypt in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau, or start to think about pre-season. Slot has already decided that he will be bringing the start of Liverpool’s training forward to the first week of July. The Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe reported: “Slot has brought his first pre-season training sessions forward by a week – the squad will reconvene in the first week of July – so he can begin acclimatising to his new environment. “Those representing their country at Euro 2024 and Copa America will return later, depending on how far they progress in the tournament.” This is ahead of the Reds’ first scheduled pre-season fixture in Pittsburgh, against Real Betis on July 27 at 12.30am (BST). After that, they will play Arsenal and Man United, also in the USA, then return to Merseyside for the start of the season on August 17. While not everyone is getting time off, some of the squad are getting some much-needed rest after a long season. Kostas Tsimikas has been enjoying the relatively nice weather with his dogs, listening to Drake. He has also posted a picture of Thiago wearing his Liverpool shirt back to front in the Anfield changing rooms. Stefan Bajcetic has taken the opportunity to go to Marrakesh in Morocco, where he was greeted by a sweet treat topped with the Liverpool badge. Meanwhile, James McConnell and Bobby Clark have decided to jet off to Marbella for some time in the sun.

Pirates Maswanganyi misses out on Footballer of the Season
Teboho Mokoena is nominated despite not making a single other category at the PSL Awards. Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi was not among the nominees for the prestigious PSL Footballer of the Season Award, even though he was selected in as many categories as anyone else when the nominees for the Premier Soccer League Awards were announced on Friday. Maswanganyi was nominated in four categories, the MTN8 Last Man Standing, the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, the DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season and the DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season. For the Footballer of the Season, however, the nominations are Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena and Stellenboch striker Iqraam Rayners. Rayners is nominated in four categories – for Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season. He is also just one goal behind Tshegofatso Mabasa in the race for the DStv Premiership Golden Boot. Williams, meanwhile, is nominated in three categories – Goalkeeper of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Footballer of the Season. Mokoena, however, is nominated for Footballer of the Season, despite not being nominated in any other category. The midfielder did have a fantastic season with Sundowns, but it is a little strange that the 27 year-old is up for the award he won last year, without a single nomination in any other category. Six Pirates players nominated Pirates did have more nominations than anyone else, with six of their players nominated as well as head coach Jose Riveiro, who is up for the Coach of the Season Award, alongside clear favourite Rulani Mokwena and Stellenbosch’s Steve Barker. Sipho Chaine and Zakhele Lepasa were nominated alongside Maswanganyi for the MTN8 Last Man Standing Award, while Thapelo Xoki was nominated with Sundowns’ Grant Kekana and Stellies’ Deano Van Rooyen for the Defender of the Season Award. Tshegofatso Mabasa joins Maswanganyi and Rayners as a nominee for the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament Award, while Relebohile Mofokeng is the clear favourite for the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player Award and the Young Player of the Season Award. .

Kaizer Chiefs are running out of time. Is the next head coach going to be Sead Ramovic from TS Galaxy or not? Here are the thoughts of Tim Sukazi, Ramovic’s current employer. KAIZER CHIEFS LINKED WITH SEAD RAMOVIC According to transfermarkt South Africa’s report, Amakhosi are set to hold talks with TS Galaxy’s coach Sead Ramovic. “Transfermarkt has learnt that Sead Ramovic has been identified as the next possible head coach of the AmaKhosi. The club is set to hold talks with him in the next few days, potentially paving the way for a new era at Kaizer Chiefs FC,” the report said. “As [Kaizer] Chiefs continue its search for a head coach to restore their former glory, Ramović’s impressive credentials make him a strong candidate. “With an average of 1.48 points per match in the #DStvPrem this season, the Stuttgart-born tactician has demonstrated his ability to deliver results,” the report added. TIM SUKAZI SHARES HIS THOUGHTS In the meantime, TS Galaxy’s chairman Sukazi has been asked to share his views on the chance of losing Ramovic to Kaizer Chiefs. “When he got here [to TS Galaxy], I was told that I’ve got a plumber, we had two points after eight games and we’ll be relegated, why did I bring a plumber – a man with no experience,” Sukazi said via Metro FM, as quoted by SABC Sport. “I want a strong Kaizer Chiefs. I know what Ramovic can do, but I cannot sell him or tell Chiefs what they should do. If that will extend the blessings to SA football – one of which is that have a new rivalry after Chiefs and Pirates [between Galaxy and Downs], it provokes conversations in every corner. “So if that approach comes, in my view, it could be the turnaround for the biggest institution. I know he will bring them success, he will bring them a trophy, but I love him – he’s my coach,” Sukazi added. “I said to the journalist on the day, ‘Please listen to me, and listen to me very carefully, the arrival of Sead Ramovic will prove to be a blessing to South African football – you’ll thank you later.’ I said it, I’m on record. Members of the media were there and can pull that file. “The rumour of Kaizer Chiefs, which is a rumour I also read [about], we haven’t spoken to them – I don’t know if it will happen, what their criteria is they’re looking for, so I cannot advise Kaizer Chiefs, obviously. “But should such an approach come to my desk, my wish, and what I want for football in South Africa, is for a very strong Kaizer Chiefs because Sundowns has become [so] strong. “And so had Pirates, though we beat them last weekend, this team of Pirates is probably the best team I’ve seen in recent times, maybe in 10 years even. I know he will bring them success, he will bring them a trophy, but I love him – he’s my coach,” Sukazi concluded on the Amakhosi and Ramovic reports.

How will the Champions League work next season?
How will the Champions League work next season?
The UEFA Champions League will be contested under a radically different format next season after massive changes were approved. The change of format comes as the tournament expands from a 32-team showpiece, swelling to 36 teams from next term. Those aren’t the only changes with a radically different group stage also coming in. “UEFA has clearly shown that we are fully committed to respecting the fundamental values of sport and to defending the key principle of open competitions, with qualification based on sporting merit, fully in line with the values and solidarity-based European sports model,” said UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin.  “I am really pleased that it was a unanimous decision of the UEFA Executive Committee, with the European Club Association, European Leagues and national associations all agreeing with the proposal made. “Another proof that European football is more united than ever.” How will the UEFA Champions League format change? Under the new Champions League format, teams will play eight matches in the new league phase, which replaces the former group stage.  Teams in the Champions League will no longer play three opponents twice – home and away.  Instead qualified teams face fixtures against eight different sides, playing half of those matches at home and half away across the eight matchdays.  Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League. (Image by MICHAELA REHLE / AFP) Will there still be a UEFA Champions League draw There will still be a Champions League draw for the league phase. Four seeding pots of nine teams will be settled by rankings. These rankings will be based on the current co-efficient system. Each team will then be drawn to play two opponents from each of these pots. They will play one match against a team from each pot, home and away. UEFA said: “This gives the opportunity for clubs to test themselves against a wider range of opponents and raises the prospect for fans of seeing the top teams go head to head more often and earlier in the competition. It will also result in more competitive matches for every club across the board.” In effect this brings about the radical departure. The UEFA Champions League will take on a different look from next season. How will teams reach the knockout phase? The outcomes of each match will determine the overall standing in the new league, with three points for a victory and one for a draw remaining the points system in use. The top eight clubs in the league will advance to the round of 16, while the teams ranking ninth to twenty-fourth will participate in an additional two-legged knockout phase play-off to clinch their spot in the competition’s final 16.  Elimination faces teams who finish 25th or lower. They will not be eligible to compete in the UEFA Europa League. UEFA claim: “The new format, with all the teams ranked together in a single league, will mean that there is more to play for all the way through to the final night of the league phase.”

Departing Liverpool coach confirms what we all expected on Nat Phillips future Liverpool FC
Departing Liverpool coach confirms what we all expected on Nat Phillips future Liverpool FC
Departing goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has appeared to confirm what we expected about Nat Phillips‘ Liverpool future, hinting at a a summer transfer. Now 27 years old, Phillips has spent the last 18 months on loan at three different clubs, Stuttgart, Celtic and Cardiff. With another two years left on his contract and a new manager arriving, Liverpool will likely look to sell Phillips this summer on a permanent basis. Departing coach Achterberg seemed to confirm this on Instagram in a response to Phillips’ touching tribute to manager Jurgen Klopp. Achterberg wrote: “You a good defender Nat! Good luck in your next move.” This was commented beneath Phillips’ post thanking Klopp for his time at Liverpool, which read: “Thank you Boss, for showing belief in me, and for giving me the opportunity and privilege to represent Liverpool FC. “I’ll be forever grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the moments we have shared together.” The news comes off the back of a mixed season. He went up to Scotland with big expectations, but injury struck and he struggled to play in Brendan Rodgers’ high defensive line at Celtic. He returned to Liverpool midway through the campaign but was soon moved on, with a loan to Cardiff in Wales agreed. Playing in the Championship, Phillips finally got a run of games together and started 17 of his 18 second division matches, helping manager Erol Bulut’s side finish 12th of 24 teams. Though it seems a long time since 2021, when Phillips was partnering Rhys Williams in Liverpool’s defence, it shouldn’t be forgotten he is player who, when used effectively, can lead from the back. While Champions League football at Celtic seemed attractive, the style of football didn’t suit Phillips and he will likely encounter a similar problem when Arne Slot arrives at Liverpool. All this points to a departure in the summer, as Liverpool aim to earn as much as possible from outgoings, in an era perhaps about to be defined by tight financial restrictions.

Three things to look out for on the final day of the DStv Premiership
Three things to look out for on the final day of the DStv Premiership
Sundowns are champions, but there is plenty still to play for. Can Sundowns have an ‘invincible’ season? Mamelodi Sundowns have long-since wrapped up the DStv Premiership title, and have already reached a record points total for a 30-game season. But Rulani Mokwena’s side can truly have a season to beat all others if they can avoid defeat on Saturday at home to Cape Town City. No team in PSL top flight history has ever gone an entire campaign without losing a match, but Sundowns have the chance to match the likes of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal in 2003/4 and Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in this season’s Bundesliga if they can complete an ‘invincible’ campaign. So far their record reads 22 wins and seven draws, a staggering effort from a team that has become totally dominant in the domestic game. Mokwena’s side will have to keep their focus against City, especially after coming within minutes of losing to TS Galaxy in midweek. But Eric Tinkler’s City have not won an away game all year, and while they have taken seven points out of a possible nine in their last three games to cement their place in the top eight, it is hard to see anything but a win for Sundowns at Loftus. Richards Bay v Stellenbosch has plenty riding on it – for both teams Stellenbosch and Richards Bay meet at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday, with both sides desperate for a win, for very different reasons. Steve Barker’s Stellies can guarantee a place in the Caf Champions League next season with a win, which would but the cherry on the cake of an amazing season for the Cape Winelands side. Stellies have stumbled a little of late, picking up just one point from their last three league games, but luckily for them Orlando Pirates are also losing their balance in the final straight. The Buccaneers, the only other team in the running for second, are at home to SuperSport in their last match and are just a point behind Stellenbosch. Jose Riveiro’s side must hope Richards Bay are inspired by their bid to avoid a place in the relegation/promotion play-offs. The KZN side will save themselves from relegation if they can beat Stellenbosch, and if Royal AM lose their final game of the season at Moroka Swallows. Royal AM are certainly in worse form than Richards Bay. They have picked up just two points from their last seven league games, while Richards Bay have managed 13 points in the same period. John Maduka’s side, however, still have a three point lead over Vusimusi Vilakazi’s side, and need just a point at the Birds to guarantee their safety. Chiefs, AmaZulu, Polokwane City, Arrows and Chippa battle it out for eighth Seven of the eight places in next season’s MTN8 have been secured, but the final spot is very much up for grabs heading into Saturday’s final matchday of the season. Kaizer Chiefs are currently in eighth on 36 points, but only lead AmaZulu and Polokwane City on goal difference. Chiefs sit at a goal difference of -3, while Polokwane City’s is -7, meaning if Chiefs can beat Cape Town Spurs in the Mother City on Saturday, it is unlikely Rise and Shine can catch them, even if they win at home to TS Galaxy. AmaZulu, however, sit at a goal difference of -4, and an emphatic victory at home for Pablo Franco Martin’s side at home to Golden Arrows could take them past Chiefs, if Cavin Johnson’s side can only scrape past Spurs. Arrows are just a point behind AmaZulu on 35 points, and if they can beat Usuthu, they can also sneak into eighth, but only if both Chiefs and Polokwane City fail to win. Chippa United are the rank outsiders for a place in the MTN8, sitting a point behind Arrows. The Chilli Boyz need to win at home to Sekhukhune United, while AmaZulu and Arrows draw, and Chiefs and Polokwane City both fail to win. In those unlikely circumstances, it is the Eastern Cape side who will sneak into eighth place.

REVEALED | The truth about Sead Ramovic to Kaizer Chiefs!
Kaizer Chiefs were believed to be about to make a shock announcement of a local coach according to reports!  Chiefs are searching for a new coach, who will come in with his own technical staff for the new season.  It’s believed Chiefs are willing to give the new coach and his staff authority to lead them in a new era. Amakhosi have not won silverware for the past nine years now and currently fighting to finish in the top eight. The risk of going a full decade without a trophy is surely giving the club’s management sleepless nights. It is for this reason that, this next coaching appointment could be undoubtedly the most significant in the clubs history.  Ramovic to Chiefs? Currently interim coach Cavin Johnson initially harboured ambitions of becoming the permanent coach at Chiefs. A run which saw Chiefs winning three of their last four games of 2024, saw Johnson in with a shout. But now according to the latest, the club are back looking at other candidates. There have been the likes of Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi in a local sense. Internationally, Jose Peseiro, Vanderlei Luxembergo , Raul Caneda Perez and Nasreddine Nabi.  Just at the start of the week, Portuguese coach Alexander Santos was regarded as the front runner for the job. But in a shock turn of events, reports suggested that TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic is the lead candidate.  Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Ramovic is not currently under consideration at Chiefs!  Serb not in consideration “To be honest with you Ramovic was not even mentioned in the last meeting. Maybe his agents or representatives are talking to someone and it looked as if he is one of the coaches but as far as we know it’s Pitso and Santos who stand the chance right now. But as already noted, it will depend on affordability and availability as well on those two,” said the source to the publication. It then appears that Ramovic is not in the running for the Chiefs job after all.

New Joe Gomez comments make future Liverpool plans clear Liverpool FC
New Joe Gomez comments make future Liverpool plans clear Liverpool FC
Joe Gomez appears to have eased any worries of a potential summer transfer with his latest comments that emphasise his commitment to Liverpool. At just 27 years old, Gomez has already been at Liverpool for nine seasons and his stay on Merseyside is set to continue, judging by his latest comments. Upon receiving the Embodiment Of Liverpool FC Award 2024 from The Anfield Wrap, Gomez spoke touchingly about the club and its supporters. He said: “Speaking to some of the boys that have moved on and them emphasising how how good of a place this is, because I guess sometimes having something to compare it to helps as well, I’m just grateful to be here. “Long may it continue.” With a contract that runs until 2027, Gomez is already the longest-serving player at Liverpool and is in fact the only player to have played under any coach other than Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. He has enjoyed some fairytale moments since arriving in 2015, and his relationship with the fans has grown over the last decade. “We say it so much and I don’t ever want it to like lose its touch, but the supporters here are something else,” the defender added. “Being here this long really helps me realise what we’re blessed with and how fortunate we are to have the supporters we do. “I think it’s not just in the in the moments when we win things and so on, but it’s just the whole war and the energy that they gave us. I think it just means a lot to be a part of this, this culture, this club and, and what it means. “I think for people from the outside looking in, [they] are probably envious of what we have here and being here this many years, it’s only grown over time, making me realise how special it is to be here.” A man who clearly loves playing for Liverpool and gives his all every time he steps on the pitch, it will be some let-off when he scores his first goal!

Bafana star urged to reject Sundowns for move overseas
Bafana star urged to reject Sundowns for move overseas
Stellenbosch FC believe big three target Jayden Adams would be better suited heading to Europe amid rumours that he will join Sundowns. Stellies have been a selling club in recent seasons, but coach Steve Barker has suggested the price will need to be right for them to let go of Adams. Barker feels that Adams is a better player than some of Sundowns benched talent. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Stellies slap R40 million price tag on Bafana star Adams has starred for Stellenbosch FC this season, helping them to the brink of Champions League qualification. He was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad at the Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast where he impressed. Barker feels that Stellenbosch FC’s star players will not be available for cut price. Qualification for the Champions League means the Cape side will need to try to hang onto their best players if not get sizeable fees for their talents. “As a club, the more you achieve – winning trophies, securing top positions, and having players represent Bafana Bafana – their worth naturally increases,” Barker said according to FARPost. “It won’t be as easy as it was in the past,” the coach warned.  “We have players sitting on the bench at Sundowns who cost R40 million. Why should Jayden Adams be valued any less, maybe even more?” Will Europe come calling? Barker believes that Adams would be better suited moving abroad at this stage of his career. “Jayden has ambitions to play in Europe,” Barker added.  He also said: “At his age, a move to Europe would be more beneficial for his career. I’d advise him to prioritise that over local options.” He is concerned that Adams won’t get adequate football if he moves to Sundowns at this stage. “You don’t want him going to Sundowns and only getting 13 or 14 league matches a season,” the coach commented. Qualification for continental football should mean that Stellenbosch FC start to ask for premium fees for their players. “Our players’ stock is higher now. We weren’t playing in Africa before or challenging for trophies. Now that we’ve won a trophy and are competing in Africa, it’s not as simple for other teams to just pick and choose our players.” Jayden Adams wants to play for Liverpool Adams has stated his ambition to play in Europe, namedropping Liverpool as the club he wants to join. “My goal is to play in Europe. I would like to play for Liverpool. That’s my team. So, that’s my big-time goal,” Adams said according to Goal. Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena doesn’t believe Adams will end up at Chloorkop next season. “It’s a difficult question [about signing Adams], at the moment, the answer is no,” Mokwena said according to FARPost.

Mokwena gives cryptic answer on Sundowns interest in Adams
“It’s a difficult question [to answer],” says Mokwena. Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena came up with a cryptic response when asked whether the Brazilians will sign Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams. ALSO READ: Percy Tau keen to join Kaizer Chiefs, but… Adams has been linked with the league champions following his stellar season for Stellies that saw him making the Bafana Bafana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Ivory Coast earlier this month where he made two appearances. “It’s a difficult question [to answer]. Will [Sundowns sign Adams]? At the moment the answer is no,” he said. “I haven’t submitted the report, that’s the starting point. I have to summarise the performances of the squad. I’ve then got to give a detailed report to the senior management and to the sporting director, with some directives as to where we need to strengthen. It would be very difficult to answer with a definite yes or no without having concluded my technical report with the technical team,” he added. But as reported by Phakaaathi on Monday, Barker said the Brazilians must be prepared to pay a lot of money if they are to sign Adams. “The better you become as a football club, winning cups and being second and players making the Bafana squad, their value goes from here to there [pointing down and up]. So if clubs want to come and look for our players, I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as it was in the past,” said Barker. ALSO READ: Makhanya backs Pirates to challenge Sundowns next season “Number one from the economic and financial point of view. And if you have players sitting on the bench at Sundowns that cost R40-million, what reasons for Jayden not to cost that much or maybe more. If Sundowns do [submit an offer], then they will have to dig deep, that’s the one thing.”

Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite makes decision on his future!
Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite makes decision on his future!
Kaizer Chiefs were thought to have made a decision pertaining to the future of one of their youngsters. Some changes are expected at the end of the season, which will affect players and coaching staff at Chiefs. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Chiefs find themselves languishing in eighth place in the DStv Premiership thus far, with the squad underperforming. The team has not fared much better in the cup competitions either. Under Molefi Ntseki, they were knocked out of both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup. That prompted the Amakhosi management to relieve the former Bafana Bafana coach of his duties. Zwane struggled for game time Chiefs then redeployed Cavin Johnson as their interim coach from his role overseeing the club’s academy. The club found themselves knocked out of the Nedbank Cup during his tenure. Under both coaches, one player that has hardly got a look in under both coaches is midfielder Samkelo Zwane. For Zwane, the numbers this season hardly support the possibility of him growing into a first team regular any time soon. In his breakthrough season last campaign, he made 12 league appearances, from the second half of the season. It was thought that his second campaign would see him become an even more integral part of the Chiefs season. However, under both ex-coach Ntseki it was clear to see he was not going to be a regular.  It was previously reported by this publication that Chiefs were ready to sacrifice Zwane and send him on loan. But now, according to Soccer-Laduma, he has decided to stay and fight for his place. This in the hope the new coach will give him a chance.  Willing to fight for his Chiefs career? “Soccer Laduma understands that the player is determined to fight for his place in the team next season, but a lot will depend on the new coach Amakhosi are expected to appoint in the coming weeks. It’s understood that Zwane’s camp would want to know what the plan of the new coach is, to see whether or not the player needs to make a loan move to get more game time elsewhere.” Wrote the publication. So Zwane’s future at Chiefs depends on the new coach.

Diogo Dalot jumps to the defence of Erik ten Hag despite dismal season Man United News And Transfer News
Diogo Dalot jumps to the defence of Erik ten Hag despite dismal season Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot has jumped to the defence of his under-fire manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils have struggled massively this season and have conceded a mammoth 84 goals in all competitions. However, Dalot has been one of the few players who can hold his head up high when the season concludes on Saturday after the FA Cup final versus Manchester City. He has previously stated that he is in the form of his life this season and this was backed up when he was named the Players’ Player of the Year on Thursday. The Portuguese international has shown incredible consistency, playing 49 games in all competitions and has netted three goals and registered five assists in that time. In an interview with The Telegraph, the 25-year-old felt that his side had let down the United fans, who have always got behind their team irrespective of the results, most notably after the hammering against Crystal Palace at the start of this month. As the United players trudged over to the away fans at Selhurst Park after a 4-0 defeat, the fans stood in unison and applauded their team’s efforts, earning praise from many corners. Speaking on the reception the players received, Dalot commented, “I feel there is something … listen, I’m going to be really honest with you, after that game against Palace, the way the fans were supporting us, it was almost like a feeling that we didn’t deserve that.” “After you concede four goals against Palace, they were still there, pushing us, after the awful game we had. This is the type of thing that shows why these fans are special.” Dalot also confirmed that despite the odds being stacked against them, United would use the reaction of the fans as inspiration to pay them back for their efforts on Saturday at Wembley. “They are always expecting something special so we’re going into the game on Saturday to try to give them a special afternoon and realise this special feeling that they always feel is going to happen.” The full-back was then asked a question about his manager, Erik ten Hag. The future of the manager is probably the most discussed aspect of life at the club at the moment with a host of names linked to the position, despite Ten Hag still being in the job prior to a cup final. Dalot jumped to the defence of the beleaguered coach and claimed, “Yeah obviously, we look to him as our leader. Normally this is what leaders do – they always take the bullets for everyone. But make no mistake about it, don’t misunderstand it – we take responsibility for what we do on the pitch.” “Obviously he tries to give his best, we try to give our best but this is the type of connection that we need to have, with players and with the manager, and we have a good connection with him.” The former Porto man has already spoken on the connection he has with the manager and he has claimed that they have the same vision when it comes to how football should be played. Dalot will be hoping he can cap his 50th match of the season in the perfect way by lifting the FA Cup in front of joyous fans at Wembley. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Ex-Pirates and Sundowns star Andile Jali finally found a new club?
Ex-Pirates and Sundowns star Andile Jali finally found a new club?
Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star Andile Jali has been linked with a new club this week.  This comes after rumours that Jali was contemplating retiring after achieving success at both Pirates and Sundowns during his career. Looking to buy a good quality pre-owned vehicle, click here! Jali was recently released by Moroka Swallows ahead of the second half of the DStv Premiership season. He was thought to have been part of the Swallows contingent that went on strike last year. This strike saw the Swallows players withdraw from their last two games of 2023, which proved costly to the club. The PSL ended up fining the Dube Birds a cool R1 million for failing to honour those fixtures. They did, however, receive the leniency of having R600 000 of it suspended. With the club already cash-strapped, that was a sanction they could ill afford. They then also decided to take action on the players who had decided against playing, effectively firing them. Furthermore, the league granted three points to both of their opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. Jali linked to Magesi The players had decided to boycott those two games, as they had not been paid their salaries. After a process of internal disciplinary hearings, a list of 22 players who had been dismissed by Swallows started making the rounds. The list featured some noticeable names, such as Daniel Akpeyi, Bongani Sam, Ntsako Makhubela and Dumisani Zuma. Certain key players seemed to be spared from the list before it was determined that another round of hearings was planned. Jali’s agent, Mike Makaab, came out to say that his client was injured and not striking. Jali has since failed to find a club and Makaab says he will sit down with him and decide the next step. That next step was quite possibly retirement until a shock report linking him to newly promoted Magesi FC. Speaking to Soccer-Laduma, he has categorically denied these claims.  No truth! “It’s absolute nonsense (The links of Jali to Magesi) He still has not made up his mind if he wants to continue playing or not. Him and I are probably going to have a meeting in the next couple of weeks.” Said Makaab to the publication.  It now remains to be seen if Jali will return to football or decide to call it a day.
