Kaizer Chiefs star hungry for more goals
Kaizer Chiefs’ young star Mduduzi Shabalala has a hunger for goals after netting the winner against SuperSport United recently. Kaizer Chiefs star hungry for goals Shabalala takes confidence from that performance. He credits the match with bolstering his confidence. “It’s a great feeling. because I have been desperately wanting to score goals to help the team. It has really boosted my confidence and increased my hunger to score more goals,” he told www.kaizerchiefs.com. Shabalala expects a tough examination in their next outing against Sundowns. He says that the Glamour Boys don’t want to be the ones who hand the Brazilians the title. “It’s always a tough match. Everybody knows that they are log leaders at the moment, but it’s really all about us.  “We are going to have to execute our game plan, and when we get opportunities, we have to be clinical. We want to stop them from winning the league in ‘our house’,” the 20-year-old stated. Confederations Cup carrot Kaizer Chiefs are out to qualify for continental competition even if they have already missed out on the Champions League. “In the last five games this season we are still looking to qualify for a CAF spot,” he says, “Our aim is to get back to where we belong as Kaizer Chiefs, at the top.” “I would love to see a lot of our fans come out to support us for this big game on Thursday,” Shabalala continued.  “It helps us a lot when they are giving us encouragement. They want the best for us and we want to make them happy and proud of us.” Meanwhile, Sundowns boss Rhulani Mokwena has nothing but respect for Kaizer Chiefs. “Chiefs is Chiefs, we all know Chiefs is Chiefs, at any day they can turn up, how I look at it? They are a big club and they deserve incredible respect, I already told you about my respect towards the Chairman,” Mokwena told iDiski Times. “They have a good coach, and I know him personally because I learnt a lot from him, that’s how I look at it. He also said: “They have some very good players and they have a team that is capable of beating anybody. I have no doubt they will make the top eight, no doubt in my mind.” Kaizer Chiefs missing half a dozen players Chiefs have as many as six players ruled out for the clash on Thursday. TT [Ditlhokwe] hasn’t played, he’s ready but he hasn’t played a game of 45 minutes or for an hour as yet but yeah we know Dove is suspended because of four yellow cards. We gonna see how we fix our defence structure up,” Coach Cavin Johnson said according to FARPost. “We still have Itu out, we still have Keegan out – they all came back with heavy flu,” he added.

Man United target Kieran Dewsbury-Hall has no desire to leave Leicester City this summer Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United target Kieran Dewsbury-Hall has claimed that he has no desire to leave Leicester City this summer. The Red Devils have struggled immensely in midfield this year due to poor individual play, tactical naivety and a cursed stretch of injuries. The new owners will surely want to rectify this and for this reason, the club has been linked to numerous midfield options. One aspect INEOS have wanted to return the club to is buying more young British talent, which has led to reports that United are interested in bringing in Kieran Dewsbury-Hall as an option next season. It was reported that Leicester’s recent financial problems could lead to the Foxes accepting a reduce fee of around £25m for the player. Naturally, United were not the only club linked to the midfield man with Tottenham Hotspur also said to be keen on securing the 25 year old’s services. The Englishman has been a vital cog for Leicester this season, playing 49 games, scoring 12 goals and providing an incredible 15 assists. However, Leicester’s hand was already massively strengthened when they were promoted back to the Premier League last month and they won the Championship title last weekend. In addition, after picking up the Players player of the year award at Leicester’s end of season awards he claimed, “I’ve been at this club since I was 8 years old… I’ve got no intention of leaving.” #LCFC | Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has just won Players Player at the end of season awards. KDH: “I’ve been at this club since I was 8 years old… I’ve got no intention of leaving” — Owynn Palmer-Atkin (@OwynnPA) April 30, 2024 The midfielder certainly has a swagger about him as he has compared his playing style as a mix between Paul Scholes and Kevin de Bruyne; two of the best midfielders to play in the English top flight. Were Leicester to have failed to be promoted, perhaps there may have been a real chance of INEOS bringing in the player, but it seems unlikely that he will have any interest in abandoning his side on their return to the Premier League. Of course, it is possible that the Foxes financial issues are even worse than first thought and there may be no choice but to sell the player but once more, that seems unlikely with the massive cash windfall they are about to receive for making it back to the top tier at the first time of asking. Mmodi confident Chiefs can destroy Sundowns record
Mmodi confident Chiefs can destroy Sundowns record
‘They have the best record in the league and we are willing to destroy that history,’ said the Chiefs forward. Pule Mmodi believes Kaizer Chiefs can ‘destroy’ Mamelodi Sundowns’ unbeaten record in the DStv Premiership when the two teams meet at FNB Stadium on Thursday evening. Rulani Mokwena’s Masandawana will wrap up a seventh DStv Premiership title in a row with six games to spare if they can beat Amakhosi, and will also remain on target for an ‘invincible’ campaign. Up to now, the Tshwane giants have not lost any of their 23 league matches, winning 18 and drawing five. Chiefs forward Mmodi, however, believes his team are in a good place after finally racking up a second win of the year last weekend, with a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United. “I think the mood was good .. coming from a win against SuperSport and I think we are motivated to play Sundowns,” said Mmodi this week. “They have the best record in the league and we are willing to destroy that history. “I think the only way to beat them is to all give our best on Thursday, so that we can get the three points … we need the points to stay in the top eight” he added. Chiefs are currently in eighth spot in what is a tight battle to qualify for next season’s MTN8. Mmodi believes Chiefs have been playing well, but have simply not been taking their opportunities in enough matches. ‘I think I will fix it’ “The players we have now, I still believe in them. There is nothing I can say we lack … the only problem was about scoring,” added Mmodi. “If we can capitalise on the chances we always get in games …. everything will be ok.” Mmodi has been a part of that problem, his last of four goals coming in December against Polokwane City, though he has provided three assists this year, one in the 1-0 win over Arrows and two for Ashley Du Preez in the Soweto derby loss to Orlando Pirates. “For me it has been a long time not scoring, but if I am not scoring it is better for me to give an assist to another player. It has been frustrating me (not scoring) … but I think I will fix it,” said the 31 year-old.

OFFICIAL: Kaizer Chiefs miss out on CAF Champions League qualification
Kaizer Chiefs are officially out of contention for next season’s CAF Champions League after Stellenbosch collected three points against Golden Arrows. Chiefs will have to scrap for third, or worse Stellenbosch, one of this season’s surprise packages, collected all three points in their 3-0 win over Golden Arrows. It was a much-needed response after Orlando Pirates beat Cape Town City 2-0 earlier in the day courtesy of a Tshegofatso Mabasa brace. Stellies’ win came courtesy of strikes from Devin Titus, Anicet Oura and in-form Iqraam Rayners. Rayners has 14 goals in the DStv Premiership this season, putting him in pole position for the Golden Boot. Mabasa is his nearest challenger with 13 strikes. Stellenbosch lead Pirates in the race for second place by three points with four matches to play. The race is on for bragging rights as the country’s top goal scorer in this season’s DStv Premiership. Image: Backpagepix What’s next for Kaizer Chiefs after missing out on CAF Champions League? After Stellenbosch’s win, they have 49 points. Their lead over Chiefs is unassailable as Amakhosi only have five matches (15 points) left to play for this season. Cavin Johnson’s men, fresh off a much-needed 2-1 win against SuperSport, are out to spoil the Sundowns party this week. The Brazilians will seal a seventh consecutive league title with three points on Thursday against Chiefs. They might even have the title wrapped up before that if Stellenbosch loses to Golden Arrows on Wednesday. Amakhosi face Sundowns on 2 May, with kickoff at 19:30. Amakhosi will want to put on a show for their fans and avoid rolling out the red carpet for Rulani and his team. Chiefs will still be scrapping for a top-eight finish. Christian Saile trying to get the crowd going. How Jomo stopped Pirates legend Mark Fish from joining Chiefs
How Jomo stopped Pirates legend Mark Fish from joining Chiefs
Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana legend Mark Fish revealed he almost joined Kaizer Chiefs before signing for the Buccaneers in 1994. The former Lazio defender started his football journey with Jomo Cosmos in 1991 as a 17-year-old. He revealed his first paycheck was R800 a month but doubled in his second year. Speaking on the Podcast and Chill with MacG, the 50-year-old said he nearly signed for Kaizer Chiefs in 1994. It took his former coach and Pirates legend Jomo Sono to stop Mark Fish from joining Amakhosi. “When we got relegated, in the following season, we found ourselves [with other teammates from Cosmos] at Pirates,” he said. “When I was on my way to see Jomo, I think the old PRO from Kaizer Chiefs saw me and we started chatting. “He said the Chiefs fans had been writing him messages saying they would like to see me and Lucas [Radebe] playing together before Lucas went to Leeds [United]. “When I told Jomo, he said, ‘if you sign for Kaizer Chiefs, I’ll make sure you never play football again in this country. Anyway, I found myself at Pirates.” Mark Fish instantly became a fan favourite at Pirates and went on to win the CAF Champions League in 1995. “Pirates was a massive eye-opener for me,” he added. Having won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations, Fish signed with Lazio after turning down Manchester United. He came close to joining the Red Devils after impressing United icon Sir Bobby Charlton. Ex-Pirates defender Mark Fish nearly joined Amakhosi “At the time I had people who were representing me and he(Charlton) has spoken to them and we were in agreement that we went to Man United and Lazio in Italy, those were the two clubs. Two weeks later, we flew out and went to meet Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and they had a game that night against Everton. Afterwards, we sat in his office, and he just wanted me to train with the team,” he said. Having left Pirates, Mark Fish found himself in Europe at the age of 22. He said Lazio wanted to sign him immediately after he met the club’s officials, unlike at United. Fish reveals why he chose Lazio over Man United in 1996 “I had to do an eight-hour medical, which I passed. In the 90s, Serie A was booming and as a defender, it was a better place to be.”

Ronwen Williams reveals what nearly made him quit football
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has revealed he nearly quit football 14 years ago after his brother passed away. The 32-year-old has been an inspirational figure for Masandawana and for Bafana Bafana. As captain of the national team, he guided the country to a third-place finish in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. Having come from the SuperSport United academy, ‘Rony’ had a brilliant debut in 2012. He kept a clean sheet in his debut and months later, he established himself as the club’s number-one keeper. Before that, he nearly quit football following the death of his brother in a car accident. Ronwen Williams thanked Chippa United coach Kwanele Kopo for giving him advice when he was down. “The big thing that happened to me was in 2010 when I lost my brother to a car accident,” he told CNN. “That’s when I didn’t want to play football anymore. And I didn’t go back. I was making the transition into the first team.” 𝗗𝗜𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡 Bernard Parker has returned to the field of play after a 6-month spell on the sidelines due to a broken leg. Great to see him back….Steps up to take a penalty and its saved… Ronwen Williams should have let him score this… pic.twitter.com/raLIMwS2Pl — Sahil Ebrahim (@sahil_e_) April 29, 2024 Ronwen Williams saves Bernard Parker’s penalty. “I think it was two or three months that I didn’t want to go back and I just wanted to be around my family. I just wanted to be in Galvandale and it went on for a very long time and I started getting calls for me to come back and I said ‘no, I’m not coming back’ and I will drop the phone. Ronwen Williams reveals his brother’s death almost made him quit “And I can remember coach Kopo saying something that just hit me. He said ‘you know your brother would have wanted this for you, So whatever you do now, do it for him. He wouldn’t want you to lose and just throw away these years you sacrificed, he will want you to keep going and reach your dream’. When I dropped the call that day, it hit me and I was like ‘he’s right. You know’. “So that’s how things went from me wanting to give up, and then five months down the line. I think it was December 2010 and then I signed a first-team contract,” he said. Williams credits Chippa United coach Ronwen Williams spent more than 12 years at SuperSport before moving to Sundowns in 2022. A year before that, he was made captain of the South African men’s national soccer team. He has since played more than 40 games for Bafana winning the Afcon Golden Glove this year.

Kaizer Chiefs to announce 5 players goodbye
Kaizer Chiefs to announce 5 players goodbye
Things don’t always work out in football sometimes. Kaizer Chiefs are expected to announce the departures of big names such as Itumeleng Khune, Keagan Dolly and Njabulo Ngcobo. KAIZER CHIEFS TO ANNOUNCE PLAYER EXITS We’re in the final month of the season. Amakhosi, like every club around the world, will announce player departures before revealing the names of new players. According to recent reports over the past few months, Kaizer Chiefs’ 36-year-old legend Khune will be on the list of exits. Another major name will be that of the 31-year-old attacker Dolly. Another prominent name will be that of Ngcobo. The former Moroka Swallows and Uthongathi defender is reportedly nearing a move to AmaZulu. “Kaizer Chiefs is a professional club, they communicate about their intentions. Unfortunately, they have not said anything about Njabulo Ngcobo,” the player’s agent, Sboniso Ngubane, told SABC Sport. “We are in talks with different clubs in the DStv Premiership, including AmaZulu FC,” Ngubane added. Gonzalez, the Colombian striker, has failed to convince Kaizer Chiefs to renew what was a season-long contract. “Kaizer Chiefs have opted against taking the option in Jasond Gonzalez contract to make his loan move permanent,” iDiskiTimes reported. “His loan deal, which had an option to make the deal permanent for $180,000 (R3.4 million) will not be pursued further after failing to score in his 12 games for Amakhosi,” the report added. Full list of players to leave: Keagan Dolly, 31, attacking midfielder Itumeleng Khune, 36, goalkeeper Njabulo Ngcobo, 29, central defender Jasond Gonzalez, 24, striker George Matlou, 25, midfielder. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS MATCH In the meantime, Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for some very important visitors to the FNB Stadium tonight. Mamelodi Sundowns will arrive for a DStv Premiership clash. Speaking ahead of the game, Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena said Amakhosi need to be respected. “Chiefs is Chiefs and we all know that in any day they can turn up. They are a big Club and they deserve incredible respect. They have a good coach and I know him personally because I learnt a lot from him. They’ve got some very good players and they are a team that is capable of beating anybody,” Rulani told Sundowns media. “What will be the message for the players? That we are playing against a very big team and our arch-rivals. We are playing an important game which requires us to go there with humility and a lot of respect. I think as a fierce competitor, Coach Cavin Johnson would like to win the game and I think he knows it’s the same with me. Furthermore, winning the title will be very sweet because it’s an important competition for us and it’s an important season,” Mokwena concluded on the Kaizer Chiefs match.

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to announce a few brand new players for next season. Before that, a few names such as Keagan Dolly are set to make way. KEAGAN DOLLY TO LEAVE KAIZER CHIEFS? It’s been a while since Amakhosi supporters watched the 31-year-old injured Dolly in action for Kaizer Chiefs. According to iDiskiTimes‘ leading reporter Lorenz Kohler, the club is considering parting ways with the Johannesburg-born star or offering him a reduced salary payment. “Kaizer Chiefs are said to be considering the exit of Keagan Dolly as they look to restructure the club and technical team in the off-season,” the report said. “As one of the highest-paid players at the club, early discussions have been lowered terms, as was the case with Khama Billiat, who eventually parted ways without a response to the renewal at Amakhosi before resurfacing in Zimbabwe with Yadah FC,” Kohler added. Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson was also asked to reveal whether Dolly is leaving or not. “That’s a blunt question to ask me at this time of the [season] only because Keagan has been out [injured], and Keagan is out injured now at the moment,” Johnson replied. “If I said this and that, it looks very much like I haven’t given much for Keagan to say, but I think we have to leave that for the end of the season,” the Kaizer Chiefs tactician concluded. Brighton set their sights on Kieran McKenna amid Man Uniteds interest in Roberto De Zerbi Man United News And Transfer News
Brighton set their sights on Kieran McKenna amid Man Uniteds interest in Roberto De Zerbi Man United News And Transfer News
1 INEOS continue to make wholesale changes behind the scenes at Manchester United, with interim CEO Patrick Stewart and CFO Cliff Baty announced as the latest senior figures to depart Old Trafford. The way INEOS are moving, sooner than later, they will address the most important position at the club: head coach — that is if they have not already done so. If reports are to be believed, Man United’s hierarchy has already begun looking at potential managers to replace Erik ten Hag, who has failed to steady the ship. In March, the Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi is INEOS’s leading contender to succeed Ten Hag. The Italian tactician has caught plenty of attention with his brave, possession-based style of football at Brighton, leading to interest from a number of clubs, including Bayern Munich and United. Tony Bloom-led Brighton are one of the best-run clubs in the country, having made huge strides due to their smart recruitment decisions. It appears they are prepared for this situation as well. According to the Guardian, the Seagulls have been making “contingency plans” as they brace themselves for De Zerbi’s potential exit. Brighton are thought to be “assessing the market” to ensure they are not left stunned in the event De Zerbi decides to exit this summer. This has led to them monitoring Kieran McKenna, who has done wonders as Ipswich City’s manager. The Tractor Boys are on the cusp of securing back-to-back promotions, needing just one point from their last Championship outing of the campaign to enter the Premier League next season. It is claimed Brighton will look to “lure” McKenna if their current manager ends up leaving. Brighton intend to make a move for the former United assistant manager, who departed Manchester following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in 2021, whether or not Ipswich achieve promotion hereon. Rasmus Hojlund hits back at Bruno Fernandes critics Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund has publicly defended his under-fire captain, Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese star is a fan-favourite and with good reason. He is the club’s top goal scorer this season with 15 goals and he has also added 11 assists to his name. As usual, he is by far the club’s most potent attacking weapon. However, his statistics are not just impressive in a United context as he became the first Premier League player this season to create 100 chances. The Portugal international is largely at the heart of everything Manchester United do well which can be seen by the absolutely insane statistics highlighted below as he leads the club in numerous categories. Bruno Fernandes for Man Utd in the Premier League this season: ◉ Most G/A ◉ Most goals ◉ Most assists ◉ Most shots ◉ Most shots on target ◉ Most chances created ◉ Most high turnovers ◉ Most possession won ◉ Most possession won final ⅓ ◉ Most possession won middle ⅓… pic.twitter.com/WA1CXgJ6yv — Squawka (@Squawka) April 29, 2024 Despite this, Fernandes is often criticised by people outside of Old Trafford and pundits have regularly stated that he is not captain material, even legends of the club like Bryan Robson and Roy Keane have expressed their disapproval of his captaincy. Hojlund himself has not always seen eye to eye with his skipper this season as it was relayed here that he reportedly complained to Erik Ten Hag and his coaching staff that Fernandes was not passing to him enough. However, things seem to be much rosier now between the two and Hojlund was glowing in his praise for the talismanic star. Speaking to BBC Sport’s Football Focus the striker took the chance to thank Fernandes for the assist last Wednesday that saw the Dane break his goal-scoring drought and find the net for the first time since February against Sheffield United. Fernandes was sensational in the game, scoring a brace and creating Hojlund’s goal. In response to his performance, the 21-year-old stated, “I just want to tell him: ‘Thanks for the ball, Bruno!’” “I was very happy for him because he’s also getting a lot of criticism. “It’s not fair because he’s doing everything at a top level all the time and he’s an amazing captain.” The former Atalanta striker was also asked about scoring the winning penalty in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City that booked United’s place in the showpiece event on Saturday 25th May at Wembley. “I knew what I wanted to do with my penalty. A little bit nervous of course. I was quite composed and yeah, boom, goal.” Looking forward to the titanic task of avenging last season’s defeat to the same rivals, Manchester City, Hojlund asserted, “We have a chance to win the cup. It’s my first chance to win silverware. “For me, this is a big game and I think we have a good chance to do something special now for the rest of the season.” Hojlund will be aiming to continue to forge a blossoming partnership with Fernandes and draw level with the Portuguese on 15 goals when United travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Monday night. Fabrizio Romano confirms Dortmunds chase for Jadon Sancho strengthened after Champions League qualification Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United might not be doing too well on their own but at least their loan players have given them something to look forward to in the summer. Not in terms of actually coming back and contributing, but in terms of rehabbing their value enough that United might not have to take a huge loss on them. Jadon Sancho looks to be the biggest beneficiary of his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund. Germany has confirmed an extra spot in the Champions League next season due to their co-efficient, paving the way for Dortmund to sneak into the competition as they are currently fifth. Fabrizio Romano reports that with the “fresh funds” coming as a result of UCL qualification, Dortmund will intensify their efforts to sign Sancho permanently. He says that this feat was extremely crucial for their financial planning for next season and the prospect of Sancho staying there has just become stronger. Fifth Champions League spot for Germany is an excellent news for Borussia Dortmund. BVB are currently 5th in Bundesliga and the access to next UCL is crucial their budget. Understand BVB will really try to keep both Ian Maatsen and Jadon Sancho with UCL fresh funds. pic.twitter.com/xQL8FONPuQ — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 1, 2024 The loan to Dortmund was always thought of as a short-term move to rehab his value as the Germans didn’t really have the funds, especially the wage budget to accommodate Sancho. However, if the player and the club can reach an agreement on that package, then United could be in the position to negotiate well now that Dortmund’s budget is boosted. Their position is even stronger now that Sancho has been the talisman of their dream run in this year’s Champions League. As long as Erik ten Hag remains in charge, it is highly unlikely Sancho will return to United anyway so this is a perfect storm for United to cash in on a player who looked like a distressed asset less than five months ago. The best-case scenario for United is that the player’s performances have turned heads in Europe too. There has already been reported interest from clubs besides Dortmund and if they can engineer a bidding war, their own transfer kitty will receive a nice boost. Orlando Pirates make club history with Cape Town City win!
Orlando Pirates claimed an impressive 2-0 win over Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday. Two assists from Relebogile Mofokeng were received and finished by a grateful Tshegofatso Mabasa who bagged a brace of goals. Mofokeng was a thorn in the flash of City’s defence, often stretching them with runs on the wide left channel. He was caught offside both correctly and incorrectly quite a few times during the first half, but corrected that. In the same vein, the same way Mabasa was wasteful in the first half, he was able to come good for Pirates.  Mabasa profited from a peach of a through ball from Mofokeng, to break the deadlock in the 58th minute. The two then combined again shortly, with a goal that eventually put the game beyond doubt in the 72nd minute. With those two goals the striker was momentarily level with Iqraam Rayners in the race for the golden boot.  Pirates still in 2nd place race Mabasa’s goal tally has now gone up to 13, while Rayners edged forward again, with a goal against Golden Arrows. He now has 14. Pirates, on the other hand are in third position, and continue to battle it out with Stellenbosch FC for 2nd.  Speaking after the game, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was happy to get the three points. “I think a good football match very tactically in the first half with, two clear strategies to get the three points – different but clear. But overall, I think if I consider the level of the opponent, the fact that we (Pirates) were not in our best in the recent times here in Cape Town, and the shape of the ground, I think it was really good performance of our players. And very, very important three points, obviously.” Said Riveiro as per iDiski Times. A historic win over Cape Town City It was also a historic win for Pirates. This because they beat Cape Town City for the first time in eight encounters in Cape Town!

Jadon Sancho sends clear message to Man United in scintillating display for Borussia Dortmund vs. Paris Saint-Germain Man United News And Transfer News
1 Borussia Dortmund have one foot inside this season’s Champions League final following their 1-0 first-leg win against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. While it was German striker Niclas Fullkrug who scored the only goal of the clash at Signal Iduna Park, it was Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho who grabbed the headlines in what was simply a masterclass from him. Sancho played in a Champions League semi-final for the first time in his career on Wednesday night and he didn’t disappoint. Undoubtedly Dortmund’s standout performer, he mostly operated from his preferred right side and had to contend with Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz and Bradley Barcola on PSG’s left flank. Sancho proved to be a constant thorn in the backside of the PSG stars as he constantly turned them inside and out with some fine skills and injections of pace when he needed to. In just the opening 30 minutes of proceedings at Dortmund’s grounds, Sancho completed an impressive seven take-ons. To put this achievement into context, he never completed more than seven take-ons in a single game he played for United in the 58 appearances he made for the Red Devils. Newcastle United enter advanced talks for Tosin Adarabioyo could seal the deal next week Man United News And Transfer News
1 It seems like Newcastle United have revenge on their minds for Dan Ashworth’s head being turned by Manchester United. While that departure is undoubtedly going to hurt them off the field while strengthening United, they are determined to land a blow to the Old Trafford outfit in the player transfer market. TEAMtalk reports that the Magpies have entered “advanced talks” with United target Tosin Adarabioyo. The Fulham man, who has already made his intentions to leave the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract in the summer, has many suitors. The likes of Tottenham, West Ham United, Chelsea, and now Newcastle will rival United if they want to secure his services. The availability of a proven Premier League player on a free transfer was always going to result in a transfer war. Looking through that lens, Newcastle’s progress in this deal has been remarkable, with the report stating that they are aiming to seal the deal next week. It would leave all the rivals, including United, trailing in their wake for a player who would have strengthened their backline for free. It is an open secret that United are looking for central defensive reinforcements in the summer after a season straight from injury nightmares. The likes of Antonio Silva, Jarrad Branthwaite, and more have been linked to the club but all of those mentioned players will cost a fortune. With Tosin, they would have bagged a dependable squad depth player without a transfer fee, freeing up funds for other positions, of which there are many at United. However, all hope is not yet lost for United as Newcastle are still only leading the race and haven’t sealed the deal yet. A last-minute swoop could be in the offing for Erik ten Hag’s side if they aim to kickstart the INEOS era with a bang and further infuriate the Magpies! Liverpool Women produced a thrilling 4-3 win against Chelsea, twice coming from behind in a second half that featured six goals and an incredible ending. Liverpool Women 4-3 Chelsea Women WSL (20), Prenton Park May 1, 2024 Goals: Beever-Jones 9′, 80′, Michah (og.) 83′; Roman Haug 51′, Bonner 66′, 90+2, Kiernan 81′ Liverpool produced argubaly their best performance of the season to beat Chelsea in a game that had everything. With the Sky Sports cameras in town, Liverpool more than held their own in the first half, but were made to pay for some extremely lax marking off a Chelsea corner. With nine minutes gone, Catarina Macario delivered a flat fairly flat corner into the six-yard box, where Aggie Beever-Jones headed in under little pressure with ample room to manoeuvre. From then on, Liverpool had control of the half and almost level before half time. It was the final pass and finish that was lacking for the Reds. The second period that ensued was most exciting half of the season. What a start to the second-half for Liverpool who level it through Sophie Román Haug! ? pic.twitter.com/Vqz6ritxsc — Sky Sports WSL (@SkySportsWSL) May 1, 2024 Half time: Liverpool Women 0-1 Chelsea Women In the 51st minute, Liverpool got their reward for a strong start to the half thanks to Sophie Roman Haug, who nodded in a header from almost the same position as Beever-Jones had scored earlier in the match. 15 minutes later, the Reds scored again in very similar circumstances, as Marie Hobinger’s inswinging corner was glanced in to the net by Gemma Bonner on her 150th appearance for Liverpool, a feat no woman has ever managed. With 10 minutes to play, the match went mad with three goals in three minutes. The visitors got their first leveller when Micah rushed to close down an angle but didn’t reach the ball, leaving Beever-Jones to finish inside the area. Chelsea’s renaissance didn’t last long, though, as Leanne Kiernan broke through one-on-one to calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper. “Absolutely unbelievable!” ? Sir Jim Ratcliffe issues stern directive to Man United staff as his ruthless revamp gathers pace Man United News And Transfer News
1 New Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly directed club staff to return to the office as part of his revamp at Old Trafford. Since Ratcliffe completed his 27.7% investment into the club, all focus has been on auditing United and identifying areas of improvement. Ratcliffe and INEOS assumed full control of United’s sporting operations as part of his agreement with the Glazers. According to The Athletic’s Adam Crafton, the 71-year-old British businessman and some of his closest allies including new interim CEO Jeane-Claude Blanc held a meeting with employees of the Red Devils to outline relay their plans for the club going forward. Crafton has revealed some details of what was discussed in the meeting. “Sir Jim Ratcliffe has ordered Manchester United’s non-football staff back into their offices in Manchester and London — insisting the club must end its work-from-home culture.” “The initiative has been led by INEOS and was trailed to staff members during a meeting on Wednesday. These plans did receive some previous pushback from members of the United’s executive leadership, including interim chief executive Patrick Stewart, whose impending departure was announced on Tuesday night.” “The news from Ratcliffe received mixed reviews, with some staff members energised by INEOS’ desire to shake things up, while others will have their life-work balance inconvenienced by the diktat. Ratcliffe wishes to bring United in line with INEOS’ policy of employees returning to their offices full-time.” However, the petrochemicals mogul’s directive is set to face a major challenge – lack of enough space at United’s offices. It’s understood that United’s office spaces in London were reconfigured to adapt to the hybrid working arrangements most staff have been functioning under since the Covid-19 pandemic . There is even less space in Manchester, where the office spaces were modified into matchday hospitality suites. As a result, there are not enough desks to accommodate those returning from a work-from-home style. Crafton further states that Ratcliffe informed those present at the gathering that he is confident Dan Ashworth will join United and assume the maiden sporting director role at the Theatre of Dreams. The 20-time English champions and Newcastle have of course been locked in a standoff regarding the future of Ashworth. The Magpies are believed to want an unrealistic compensation package worth around £20m to let their executive circumvent his notice period and start work at United immediately. Meanwhile, INEOS have made it clear they’re not prepared to fork out such an amount and are willing to wait as long as needed to get their man. Additionally, The Athletic mention that Ratcliffe informed club employees that he believes United will be restored to the pinnacle of English and European football once again. He explained that he wishes to realise this great ambition as soon as possible. United return to action on Monday when they travel to Selhurst Park to taken on Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace. Former Orlando Pirates darling continues to thrive!
An ex-Orlando Pirates fan favourite has continued to knuckle down and prove his worth outside the country.  Sifiso Myeni was known for his mesmerising and skilful displays during his time at Pirates. Myeni spent four years at Pirates Myeni spent four years at Pirates, having joined the club in 2012 from the now defunct Bidvest Wits. During that period, he made 96 appearances scoring 15 goals. The winger would then leave the Buccaneers and rejoin his former side. Additionally he played briefly for both SuperSport United and TS Sporting. Myeni then spent about two-years without a club and had to go as far down as Botswana’s first division. In 2022 he found a home at VTM. He and a former Pirates Rooi Mahamutsa were then credited with helping promote the club to the country’s top flight. He has now been at the club for two years, quietly going about his business away from the country. Initially he was just signed for a solitary year, but earned a contract extension. He reportedly even turned down opportunities to sign in Lesotho before committing to the club.  This past weekend, Myeni again showed that class is permanent, after a sterling performance. He laid an assist and played a pivotal role in the creation of the second goal. In the end, VTM claimed a 3-1 win over Eleven Angles, with Bogosi Mfila scoring a brace. Senatla Molefhe also got his name on the scoresheet in the encounter at Francistown Stadium.  Going strong at VTM The overall star of the show though, was adjudged to be Myeni. This after the former Pirates star was awarded the Man of the Match after the game. That win has seen newly promoted VTM climb up to eighth position on log table. They will now take on Botswana giants Township Rollers on the weekend.  Myeni was a darling to the Pirates fans and the majority of them would surely love to see him doing well.

Manchester United admire Mats Wieffer could go head-to-head with Liverpool for the player Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United harbour an interest in Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer. Supporters at Old Trafford this season have had to tolerate a lot but one of the hardest pills to swallow has been the abysmal performance of the midfield. This was on full display when 19th placed Burnley shaded the possession with 53% last Saturday at the Theatre of Dreams. Not only do Erik ten Hag’s side struggle to keep possession but they also regularly get hit on the counter and the majority of oppositions slice through the middle of the park like a hot knife through butter. It goes without saying that this is one of the biggest issues that needs to be fixed by the new owners. This has led to United being linked to a whole catalogue of midfielders such as Frenkie de Jong, Andre, Youssouf Fofana and Joao Neves. The latest name to be linked to a switch to Manchester is that of Mats Wieffer. According to HITC, Liverpool as well as Premier League rivals “Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Aston Villa are also admirers of the Dutch midfielder.” It is natural that Liverpool will be linked to a plethora of Feyenoord players due to the current Rotterdam team’s manager, Arne Slot, being on the cusp of being announced as manager of the Anfield side. However, news of United’s interest is intriguing as he is certainly well respected by his former coach. Speaking on the player’s growth Slot claimed, “Mats Wieffer has made a mega leap in terms of development. I can really enjoy that. So big that, if he does that again, he will become the best player in the world.” The Dutch international has played a vital role in Feyenoord’s season as he has played 42 times and he has found the back of the net six times despite predominantly playing in a defensive midfield role. The 24-year-old has been described as a “towering” midfield “enforcer” who is a “fine striker of the ball.” Whilst it is probable Liverpool will hold an advantage due to their likely new manager’s relationship with the player, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils decide to make their interest in the Dutchman more formal. How an ex-Liverpool goalkeeper helped coach John Achterberg sign Alisson Liverpool FC
How an ex-Liverpool goalkeeper helped coach John Achterberg sign Alisson Liverpool FC
Departing Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg told This Is Anfield about the part he played in signing arguably the Reds’ greatest-ever ‘keeper, Alisson Becker. With Jurgen Klopp leaving in the summer, goalkeeper coach Achterberg is also to depart after 15 years at the club. On his watch, Liverpool signed one of their greatest-ever goalkeepers, Alisson. Achterberg previously explained to This Is Anfield how he scouted the Brazilian and why it involved a former-Liverpool goalkeeper. “I had been watching, I think 2013 was the first time I saw him when he played at Internacional,” Achterberg told This Is Anfield in an exclusive interview in 2022. “I asked [Alexander] Doni: ‘Are there any goalkeepers out in Brazil who I should look at?’ He said: ‘Yeah, look at Ali.’ “I always get information from other people or they text me, but I also go through all the leagues to see if there are new goalies coming up. Then I try to watch one game and, if I like it, then I keep following it. “If I don’t like it, then I write it off because I’m looking at a special kind of goalie.” In 2016, Liverpool played Roma in a pre-season friendly which saw Alisson and Mo Salah both start for I Giallorossi, with the Egyptian scoring the winner. Achterberg revealed this was the first time he saw his future goalkeeper play live. “I already told the boss about him and then obviously he liked the goalie in that game,” the Dutchman recounted. “I said: ‘Yeah, that’s the one I was telling you about!’ “But we had also talked about other goalies. I talked in the past when [Manuel] Neuer was still at Schalke, when [Samir] Handanovic was at Udinese, when [Marc-Andre] Ter Stegen was in Germany at ‘Gladbach… “At the time the owners wanted to try and find the best goalie out there, and I said to the boss: ‘That’s the only goalie I would pay money for.’” Achterberg also explained how the recruitment process works and the extent of his involvement in a transfer. He said: “It works over a longer period. “The club will know exactly how it works. I tell the boss and the boss has more communication with the owners and with the recruitment guys. “I walk sometimes in the office with the recruitment guys [and say] ‘Oh did you see this one? Oh, I saw this one.’ “Just small talk really, then the club will do the work. I don’t get too much involved in that really. The boss is, in that side, in charge and the boss decides if he wants this one or that one.” Having then also faced Alisson in the 2018 Champions League semi-finals, Liverpool signed him the following summer for £67 million which, at the time, was a record fee for a goalkeeper.

Tom Heatons Manchester United deal ends in June but goalkeeper open to staying Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag decided to take the huge step of discarding long-term goalkeeper David de Gea in the summer. The decision was not taken in haste as the Dutchman watched the Spaniard for one full season in which the club legend committed numerous errors, none bigger than the one in the FA Cup final which ultimately broke the camel’s back. The club had initially offered the former Atletico Madrid man a new long-term deal on reduced wages but on Ten Hag’s instructions, rescinded that offer and put on the table a new deal on even lesser wages. De Gea opted to leave, leaving Ten Hag with Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton. Henderson was keen to quit, and and with a deal for Andre Onana dragging on, the manager decided to block an exit for Heaton. Heaton’s future Premier League new boys Luton Town were interested in the academy graduate who started only two games in the previous campaign. But after discussions with the manager, the shot-stopper ended up staying only to see the club bring in Altay Bayindir as reserve keeper which meant he was effectively made third-choice. He has been named on the bench 12 times this season but is yet to make an appearance with the Turk himself making only one appearance in his debut season. In fact, since his return to Old Trafford, the 38-year-old has only managed three appearances when former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had promised much more. Heaton’s current deal with the club ends in June and with the goalie keen to play more and in no mood to hang up his gloves, a separation seemed likely. But as The Manchester Evening News have now revealed, the former Burnley star is open to staying on and is receptive to the idea of joining the coaching staff at the club in the future. Contract ends in June Bayindir has been linked with an exit and that could mean an unlikely promotion but Heaton is keeping all his options open as he seeks to play a bit more regularly. “Tom Heaton is open to staying at Manchester United after his contract expires in June. Heaton has no intention of retiring and is keeping his options open. “He is understood to be disappointed at his limited playing time at United but would be receptive to assuming a coaching role at the club after his playing career finishes.” If both reserve keepers end up leaving, another mad scramble for goalies could ensue as was seen last season. Hopefully, the club can keep the continuity intact at the back. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Orlando Pirates coach reveals why he is so lucky
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has lauded the quality of his squad, saying that he is a lucky coach. The proclamation came after Pirates beat Cape Town City 2-0 thanks to a brace from in-form striker Tshegofatso Mabasa. Orlando Pirates coach says he is lucky Mabasa has been linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns amidst rumours he has been unsettled in his second stint at the club. Meanwhile, Riveiro has conceded that when a squad is of the quality of the one at Mayfair it becomes hard to pick the team. The Pirates coach was delighted to see the team fire against Cape Town City despite making six changes to the starting XI. “I’m a lucky coach, wherever I look I have quality players, most of them they are ready to play, they are in good shape, it’s difficult for me to choose the right ones each and every game,” Riveiro said on the SuperSport broadcast of the match. “But right now we’re involved in a period of five games in a row in a space of less than two weeks, so it’s important that everybody is ready to contribute. “Today is an example, six new players from the last game, people coming from the bench and helping, even if it’s only for five minutes, so that’s the way.” Chasing maximum The win for Orlando Pirates helps them stay in touch with second-placed Stellenbosch FC. After the win on Wednesday night, Pirates are three points behind the Cape side. Riveiro said that the club were targeting a maximum haul from their remaining matches in the league. “We’re doing our best, it’s the maximum that we can get this season, it’s our obligation to give our all. He also said: “The fans are supporting us wherever we go, they are really excited with the team right now. I think we’re playing decent football, scoring goals, that’s the most important in the end,” he continued. “So we have to behave like them with passion, motivation and give our all, fight and let’s see at the end of the season we’re in what position.” Pirates switch focus from the PSL to the Nedbank Cup this weekend when they face Chippa United in the last four. Riveiro’s side are in the frame to complete back-to-back cup doubles. Pirates have already defended their MTN 8 title this season and are just two wins away from retaining the Nedbank Cup. The winner of the Nedbank Cup receives R7 million in prize money and entry into the Caf Confederations Cup.

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa bagged another brace while a Kaizer Chiefs target stayed ahead in the Golden Boot race. Orlando Pirates stay in touch of CAF Champions League spot Stellenbosch, one of this season’s surprise packages, collected all three points in their 3-0 win over Golden Arrows. Stellenbosch lead Pirates by three points in the race for second place with four matches to play. Rumoured Kaizer Chiefs target Iqraam Rayners is on fire. Image: Backpagepix PIRATES WEIGHING UP MABASA OFFERS? 27-year-old striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has been flying for the Buccaneers after a loan spell at Swallows. He’s got 10 goals in 11 appearances across all competitions since his return across Soweto. Overall in the league, he’s got 13 goals and is in the thick of the Golden Boot race. Only Iqraam Rayners (14) has more. Naturally, this form has attracted some admirers. Mabasa’s agent Gary Cassisa has revealed interest in his client, including a failed move to Sundowns in January. Mabasa’s agent Gary Cassica says Sundowns face stiff competition from Romanian giants FCSB, who have former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana on their books. They recently won their first Romanian title since 2015, booking their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. “At this point, his decision has to be considerate of his future as a player considering his age. Sundowns have the financial muscles to get him. But a chance at playing in the Champions League is not easy to resist.” “FSCB want him. They are on top in the Super Liga and are likely to be playing in the UEFA Champions League. At the moment, I’m also talking to other clubs in Europe. But the idea is to help him keep his calm until the season is over,” he added. Orlando Pirates fans are expectant on Soweto Derby Day. Stellies blunt Arrows to make Sundowns wait for Premiership crown
Sundowns will still win the title if they beat Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday. Stellenbosch FC kept a firm grip on second place in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday evening, beating Golden Arrows 3-0 at the Danie Craven Stadium. The victory answered Orlando Pirates’ 2-0 victory at Cape Town City earlier in the day, Steve Barker’s side maintaining a three point lead over the Buccaneers, with four games left to play in the race for a place in next season’s Caf Champions League. Stellies also held up Mamelodi Sundowns’ title celebrations, though Rulani Mokwena’s men will still be crowned champions if they win at Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday evening. The home side took the lead against Arrows inside the first minute, with Devin Titus adjusting his body well to head Ivorian Anicet Oura’s cross past Ismael Watenga. Stellenbosch completely dominated the first half and could have added to their tally, Andre De Jong slotting into the net, only for Iqraam Rayners to be ruled offside in the build up. Rayners, fresh from scoring all five goals in a 5-0 win at home to Polokwane City on Saturday, also dragged one good chance wide, as Arrows barely mustered a threat to Sage Stephens’ goal. Steve Komphela’s side were better after the break, and substitute Olwethu Ncube’s fierce shot drew a brilliant save from Stephens. Killer blows Stellies, however, killed the game off with two goals in as many minutes. In the 69th minute a quick counter saw a sublime pass from Jayden Adams release Oura, and he calmly beat Watenga. Rayners then gathered possession inside the box after a fine Stellies move and hammered his 14th league goal of the season into the net, moving him one clear of Orlando Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa, who earlier in the day scored a brace at Cape Town City. Stellenbosch will now focus on their Nedbank Cup semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, before picking up their league campaign against with a game at home to AmaZulu on May 8.

Arne Slot tactics: Feyenoord system and how Liverpool FC could set up Liverpool FC
Arne Slot tactics: Feyenoord system and how Liverpool FC could set up Liverpool FC
After almost a decade under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool will be under the leadership of another coach in Arne Slot next season. So how are they likely to play? I knew at some point I’d be writing about a new Liverpool coach after Jurgen Klopp, but I’m still gutted to be doing it. In addition to the results and the warm memories, Klopp has delivered some absolutely sensational football in the past nine years. The personnel, shape and the patterns of play have all shifted over time, yet they’ve been underpinned by principles that are tough to beat and a joy to watch. He’s been the perfect man for the Liverpool job. Arne Slot is a different manager, with different ideas. Yet there are similar principles to his coaching that make him a great fit for Liverpool.   Intensity Intensity has been Liverpool’s identity for almost a decade. The relentlessness of the Reds’ work off the ball has paid huge dividends, as well as accurately reflecting the city and fanbase the team represents. Slot cites Klopp as one of his influences, and you can see it in his team’s approach out of possession. According to Opta data, Feyenoord have become more aggressive and more effective out of possession year-on-year since Slot took over in 2021. But it’s not just running for running’s sake. Feyenoord are superbly well-drilled, with each player clear on their job and their triggers. It allows them to be bold in their approach. Here’s an example from a game against PSV Eindhoven, their Eredivisie title rivals. As soon as the defender receives the ball from his ‘keeper, Feyenoord’s winger Yankuba Minteh is on him. But as he does so, his colleagues in midfield are locked onto the PSV midfielders in a player-for-player press. With no free man to pass to, the defender is caught in possession, setting up an easy finish for Minteh. We can clearly see the preparation for this goal on the training pitch. But it’s also a reward for risk. Matching up player-for-player means that if one person loses a one-on-one, the whole shape is vulnerable.   Control At its best, Klopp’s Liverpool team controlled games by dominating without the ball. Teams were unable to create chances, and were vulnerable to quick breaks in return. Slot’s Feyenoord, as we know, are similarly front-footed against the ball. But in order to win titles – as Feyenoord did in 2022/23 – teams must also have control with the ball. Another of Slot’s noted inspirations is Pep Guardiola, specifically the way in which his teams create space. Feyenoord have a superb structure, but the players are also constantly interchanging, making dynamic runs to receive and play short passes. Where Liverpool are likely to play forwards quickly and then squeeze up with the counter-press, Slot prefers a more patient buildup. The intention with his teams is to have an overload in every phase when playing out from the back. They begin with the two centre-backs splitting, and the right-back inverting to form a double pivot with the No. 6. The left-back is slightly higher up the pitch and can either invert to overload the midfield or push up to rotate with the left winger. Either way, as play progresses, a third player drops into the midfield to show for the ball. In the attacking third, the wingers stay high and wide and the advanced midfielders push up to create a 2-3-5 shape. This ensures that every zone in the last line is covered, and there’s a three in midfield to stay compact and counter press if needed. Even better, using the full-backs in these deeper central areas mean they have less ground to cover when tracking back to defend counter-attacks. It gives them more control over the game – something Klopp’s best Liverpool teams had, and the current setup struggles with.   Flexibility While Slot has clearly defined structures in his team, there’s also a promising degree of flexibility. For example, the No. 8s are usually advanced in that 2-3-5 shape we discussed earlier, but if one of them wants to drop deep to get on the ball and drag the opposition’s defence out of shape, they can. The full-back or winger on that side will simply move into the space and retain the shape. This combination of structure and flexibility allows Feyenoord to play shorter, quicker passes, controlling the tempo of the game whilst also keeping players close enough to have a narrow counter-press if the ball is lost. Liverpool have been known to use a ‘flexible triangle’ on the right, with the full-back, midfielder and winger free to rotate. Similar to a coach like Guardiola or Ange Postecoglou, Slot takes these triangles to another level, decoupling the opposition block and creating space to attack.   Adaptability Slot will also adapt to his opponent. The pressing example against PSV earlier was a 4-4-2 shape tailored for PSV’s buildup structure, which uses two centre-backs. But against Roma in the Europa League, Feyenoord were up against a back three. To combat this, Slot had his wingers invert to press the outside centre-backs. His full-backs then had to push up to aggressively mark Roma’s wing-backs, while his No. 10 dropped deeper to mark Roma’s No. 6. While Feyenoord lost that game, they were effective in stopping Roma building out from the back, forcing them to play more directly and taking the game to extra-time. Liverpool 2.0 has thrived on tactical tweaks and game-changing substitutions that solve problems in-game. Slot is inheriting a versatile squad and he is adaptable enough to maximise their talents.   How will his Liverpool team look? Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. Slot is used to inverting his right-back and pushing his left-back up the pitch, which is what Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have been doing recently anyway. Joe Gomez has also inverted from left-back at times this season, so we could see him used to create that midfield three with Alexander-Arnold and a No. 6. Similar to Liverpool’s 4-3-3, there’ll be one No. 6 and a defensive-minded No. 8, as well as a more offensive midfielder. Alexis Mac Allister could find himself continuing in the No. 6, though with a different structure that provides him a little more compactness and cover defensively. Slot loves wingers. His wingers stay high and wide, they are the ones overloading the last line. This means they get the ball in one-on-one situations as much as possible. He used Luis Sinisterra to great effect at left wing as a ball-carrier and he’ll love working with Luis Diaz – but I’d also expect to see Cody Gakpo mostly played out wide rather than through the middle. Slot often substitutes his wingers because he asks so much of them during games, so there’ll be plenty of minutes for Liverpool’s forwards. Mo Salah‘s game has evolved in recent seasons. He’s less of a dribbler and he takes on his defender less, preferring to unlock defences with his passing and movement. He can definitely do that from the wing, but Slot might also see him as an option more centrally to get the most out of him. Things are going to be different under the new man, this much we’ve known for a long time. But while we wait for him to arrive, there are reasons to be optimistic that he’ll slot right in at Liverpool.

Arne Slot tactics: Feyenoord system and how Liverpool FC could set up Liverpool FC
What happened to ex-SuperSport and Chiefs star Morgan Gould?
What happened to ex-SuperSport and Chiefs star Morgan Gould?
Former Bafana Bafana defender Morgan Gould was tough as nails during his playing days. The 41-year-old played for SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch, Sekhukhune United and Jomo Cosmos. Having left Ezenkosi in 2008 for Matsatsantsa, Gould immediately became a star in the PSL. His centre-back pairing with Bongani Khumalo was hailed as the best in the league for two years as they helped SuperSport win back-to-back league titles. At the time he joined the Tshwane Giants, they had just won their first-ever PSL title with Gavin Hunt. Morgan Gould’s form earned him a Bafana cap in 2008 and he would later be included in the 2009 Confederation Cup squad on home soil. The defender did not see much game time with Khumalo and Matthew Booth preferred as Aaron Mokwena’s partners in defence. He was not included in Carlos Alberto Parreira’s final 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup, with the Brazilian picking Siyabonga Sangweni. Morgan Gould used to ‘pocket’ strikers in his SuperSport days With Gould’s defensive partner Khumalo leaving for England, United had no stable defence and failed to retain the title they won three times. In 2012, he made a big move to Kaizer Chiefs and that proved to be a success. In his first season, he won two trophies, establishing himself as a leader at the back.  At Chiefs, Morgan Gould and Eric Mathoho were called the ‘Twin Towers’ due to their heights. The 2012/13 season was a success for Amakhosi who possessed no fewer than eight Bafana players. With Stuart Baxter losing the league to Mamelodi Sundowns the next season, the English mentor re-established his defence. He opted to play with five at the back; Tefu Mashamaite joined Mathoho and Gould while Tsepo Masilela and Sboniso Gaxa played on the flanks. The 2014/15 saw Chiefs winning the league by 69 points having only conceded 14 goals. The departure of captain Mashamaite exposed Morgan Gould the next season. The defender had already past his peak at the point and was only a liability for Amakhosi. Gould won more than 10 trophies in his career He eventually left the club to rejoin SuperSport. His return was lukewarm, but nonetheless, he won three trophies with them before leaving. in 2020, Morgan Gould joined Sekhukhune, which would be the last club he played for. Since retiring, the former defender has now taken the role of a soccer analyst whilst doing motivational talks. He is also an ambassador for Addidas. Last week, Morgan Gould was one of the speakers at the Empowa Youth Week in Sebokeng.

Facundo Pellistri to return to Manchester United for pre-season before likely exit Man United News And Transfer News
2 One of the biggest challenges for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag in his sophomore managerial campaign in England was finding a solution to the right-wing woes. Quite early on in the campaign, the Dutchman had a falling out with Jadon Sancho after he called out the England international for his below-par training displays. The former Manchester City academy graduate was not one to take things lying down and retaliated via a social media statement while his camp insinuated that the manager handed out preferential treatment to Antony. Speaking of the Brazilian, off-field controversies hindered his form and with only three goals this season, the former Ajax star is already staring at an early exit from the club who decided to pay a whopping €95 million for his services. Pellistri’s difficult United stint The Dutch manager turned to Facundo Pellistri, who has consistently shone for his national side. However, when starting games, the Uruguayan always looked like a raw talent in need of further nurturing. With United crashing out of both the Champions League and Carabao Cup, minutes were hard to come by and the manager decided to send plenty of his young talents out on loan. Pellistri ended up moving to relegation-threatened Granada, where he began with a bang with a goal and assist against heavyweights Barcelona. The 22-year-old also scored in his team’s most recent win against Osasuna and he now has two goals and as many assists for his loan outfit. The player’s agent has revealed in the past that if Ten Hag remains as manager, Pellistri would end up leaving and the club are also open to that proposal. There have been offers from Europe as well as South America for the winger but the player, in an interview with Uruguayan radio station Sport 890, revealed that his parent club have been in touch and he has been informed that he will have to return to Manchester for pre-season. “I talk constantly with Manchester United. After each game we exchange (messages). I’m not sure what I’m going to do after La Liga ends. What I am clear about is that I’m going to have to do the pre-season with Manchester.” Summer exit likely The former Penarol star admitted that donning the famed red jersey has been a surreal experience but he needs more minutes moving forward and an exit is likely. “The whole time I was in Manchester was incredible. The experiences I had, I shared with the best players in the world and I was able to play many important games. Today, I am in a stage of looking for more minutes, I am very happy with the opportunity. “Although I had minutes at Manchester United, it was not the amount I would like given the football moment I was in. I am very happy for the minutes I played here (in Spain). A player always wants to play. Many times one does not put oneself into the manager’s decisions, who has to think about many more things.” With Alejandro Garnacho shining out on the right wing and with Amad Diallo starting to impress and with Omari Forson coming up, there is hardly any room for the Uruguay international. Ever since his €8.50 million move back in 2020, Pellistri has found chances hard to come by, with the winger managing only 24 appearances in 4 years with only four of them coming from the start. Pellistri’s deal ends in 2025 and most likely, he will be sold for a decent profit in the upcoming summer window. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Pirates Mabasa is staking his Bafana claim
Pirates Mabasa is staking his Bafana claim
Could Mabasa get the nod from Hugo Broos, when the Belgian selects his squad for next month’s 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers. It’s become a familiar and most welcome pose for Orlando Pirates supporters – Tshegofatso Mabasa, arms outstretched in front of the Ghost, celebrating another goal. The 27 year-old was at it again in Cape Town on Wednesday, netting a brace as the Buccaneers finally won at Cape Town City and kept up the pace in their pursuit of a place in next season’s Caf Champions League. Mabasa has been superb since rejoining the Buccaneers this year, recalled by Pirates from a loan spell at Moroka Swallows. Evidence Makgopa was the main man in attack for Pirates before the Christmas break. The 23 year-old was excellent for Bafana Bafana too, leading the line with aplomb in helping Hugo Broos’ side to a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in the Ivory Coast. An injury, however, has kept Makgopa out since the beginning of March. In his absence, Mabasa has thrived, scoring ten times in 12 appearances in all competitions, including a first ever top flight hat trick in a 7-1 hammering of Golden Arrows. Mabasa or Makgopa? Could it be that it is Mabasa who gets the nod from Hugo Broos, when the Belgian selects his squad for next month’s 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe? He is certainly very much in the race for the Golden Boot with another Bafana player, joining Iqraam Rayners with 13 top flight goals this season after his brace against City. Mabasa does have previous with Broos, and not in a good way, taking him off after just 35 minutes of a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in October 2021. But maybe he has done enough to grab the Belgian’s attention once more. Makgopa eventually replaced Mabasa against City, making his return from injury. No doubt he will hope to prove his own readiness for Bafana in the last few games of the season, as well as helping Pirates, along with Mabasa, in their pursuit of the Nedbank Cup and second place in the DStv Premiership. Whatever Broos decides to do, Jose Riveiro has an embarrassment of riches in attack, that should stand Pirates in good stead heading into the final weeks of the campaign.

Manchester United supporters have been reported to club for misuse of disabled seats at matches Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have received allegations that a selection of fans are posing as disabled supporters to gain access to away matches this season. The fans have been labelled as ‘scumbags’ for misuse of the disability seats which allow premium access to supporters typically in wheelchairs. As reported by The Daily Mail, the club are given dedicated spaces for wheelchair users at away games but reports of ‘widespread misuse’ have recently occurred. Chas Banks, secretary of the Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association, told the latest meeting of the Fans’ Forum there have been multiple breaches of the rules. “I have seen with my own eyes evidence of these scumbags doing this, and I have the photos;” he said. “To the extent of them twice having been seen watching the match whilst sitting in a wheelchair on the wheelchair platform, and then the next game being seen standing in the able-bodied section bouncing up and down when United score a goal.” Banks expressed his disappointment at the actions of the supporters in question and hopes order can be restored to allow as many disabled fans as possible the opportunity to watch their heroes. “This is not a victimless crime, and I find it very sad that some of the people who are losing out to these horrible selfish fans really are the least deserving of being robbed of their chance to get a ticket that they are entitled to. “Because I promise you, for many of them, time is not on their side,” Banks added. It’s believed the tickets have either been passed on to non-disabled supporters directly or through a third party, which is against United’s ticket policy. The club have confirmed they are aware of the claims and will be dealing with the matter accordingly. United’s next away fixture is coming up on bank holiday Monday as Erik ten Hag takes his side to the capital to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
