Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabang Monare could leave Orlando Pirates at the end of the season. Bucs set to lose experienced stars 34-year-old Thabang Monarehas been a stalwart for Pirates since joining in 2020 from Wits. joined Pirates in October 2020 from Bidvest Wits. He’s clocked up 93 appearances for the Sea Robbers, scooping three MTN8 titles and a Nedbank Cup. He was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad at Afcon that reached the semi-finals and eventually claimed the bronze model in Cote d’Ivoire. Bafana Bafana team vs Andorra in Algeria during March 2024. Image: @bafanabafana/X. Minutes have dried up for Monare Thabang Monare has only featured for 22 minutes of action since returning from Afcon. Jose Riveiro has a wealth of midfield options at his disposal. Right now, Makhehlene Makhaula, Miguel Timm and Thalente Mbatha are all ahead of the former Jomo Cosmos man in the engine room pecking order. If this is Monare’s final season with the Buccaneers, he’d love to go out in style by helping them to Nedbank Cup glory for the second consecutive season. Monare has 11 league appearances this term, indicative of his waning status within the first team. He has four caps for the national team. Orlando Pirates mean business It’s crunch time in another potentially glorious campaign for the Buccaneers. They’ve already defended their MTN8 crown and are two matches away from doing the same in the Nedbank Cup. Jose Riveiro’s charges face Cape Town City next but they’ll be without the in-form Patrick Maswanganyi and midfield anchor Makhehlene Makhaula through suspensions. Kickoff between the Citizens and the Sea Robbers on Wednesday 1 May is at 15:00. Man of the moment Maswanganyi has nine goals and 10 assists in 32 outings. That’s a stellar return for the 26-year-old, and he’ll be difficult to replace for this clash. He should return for Pirates for their Nedbank Cup semi-final trip to Chippa on Saturday 4 May. FSA promises two-footed response to any plan for Premier League games overseas Liverpool FC
Any attempt at resurrecting plans to stage Premier League fixtures outside of England and Wales will be met with vehement opposition by the Football Supporters’ Association. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters revealed last week the “door looks ajar” for English top-flight matches to be played overseas – although there are no plans in the pipeline currently. However, a high-ranking executive at NBC Sports, which holds the rights to screen the Premier League in the United States, told the Athletic the broadcaster is intent on bringing games to American audiences. Such a topic was broached by the Premier League itself 16 years ago, although proposals for a 39th round of fixtures overseas was nixed after a negative backlash from fans and pressure from FIFA. Quote tweeting the Athletic article, the FSA wrote on X: “We defeated Game 39 in 2008 and we’d attack any attempted revival with a full blown, two feet off the ground, studs to the knee tackle.” Two Premier League clubs – Chelsea and Manchester City – will be playing competitive games in the United States in the summer of 2025 at FIFA’s inaugural 32-team Club World Cup. As for bringing Premier League games to the USA to widen the scope of English football with American fans, NBC Sports’ president of acquisitions and partnerships Jon Miller is in favour. “Very much so,” he said. “This is a point that we’ve had conversations with the Premier League and they’ve been very open and receptive to listening to me. “At some point in the future, I would love to see a couple of Premier League games open the season here in big stadiums on our opening weekend. “I know that’s something that we’ll continue to push for because I think that there’s an American audience here that would like to see regular-season games. “But in the meantime, we’ll continue to work with the Premier League to do everything we can to make the games available to as many people as possible.”

Kaizer Chiefs must stay far away from THIS coach!
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be pressing ahead with plans to secure the services of a new coach next season. Arthur Zwane was in-charge at Chiefs last season, before being replaced by Molefi Ntseki ahead of the current campaign. To the majority of the Chiefs fan base, Ntseki was already an unpopular appointment, with no positive track record. Prior to taking over the first team reigns, he had never coached a senior professional side. He did, however, coach Bafana Bafana after Stuart Baxter, before being fired for failing to qualify for AFCON 2021. The duo reunited as part of a new structure at Amakhosi, which put him in charge of football development. Ntseki did not last long as Chiefs coach, however, being sacked before even the halfway mark of the season. This came after an unconvincing start to the campaign which also saw them knocked out of two cups. After being relieved of his duties, the club appointed Johnson to take over on an interim basis. Coincidently, Cavin Johnson also came into the club in a developmental role, before being asked to steady the senior ship. Chiefs searching for new coach A run which saw Chiefs winning three of their last four games of 2024, saw Johnson in with a shout. But now according to the latest, the club are back looking at other candidates. There have been the likes of Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi in a local sense. Internationally, Jose Peseiro, Vanderlei Luxembergo , Raul Caneda Perez and Nasreddine Nabi.  One of the coaches that has also been mentioned here and there is Congolese national Florent Ibenge. Ibenge is currently the coach of South Sudanese giants Al Hilal. According to controversial former Chiefs player Junior Khanye he should stay there.  Khanye says no to Ibenge “I am shocked if Kaizer Chiefs are going to go and chase that guy as their next coach. What does Florent Ibenge know about Chiefs? That is more like off ramping after another off ramp. A lot of bad things have happened when it comes to that club and a proper coach like Pitso Mosimane is what is needed there. Pitso is on a six-month contract there in Saudi Arabia and he should come back to the PSL once that is done. Chiefs should appoint Pitso even if it means he has to bring his entire technical team,” said the Khanye to Soccer-Laduma. Rui Vitoria formerly of Egypt and Benfica is reportedly the new favourite for the Chiefs job.

Manchester United name their price for Marcus Rashfords sale Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United would be prepared to sell academy product Marcus Rashford this summer if someone offered over £70 million. The form and future of the England international has been one of the most discussed topics of an abysmal 2023/2024 campaign. He has been a shadow of his former self on the pitch and has courted controversy off it, between his drinking antics in Northern Ireland’s capital or speaking out publicly about the perceived abuse he has been facing this year. This has resulted in numerous outlets and pundits discussing a possible departure from the club, with even the famously non-controversial sports journalist Andy Mitten stating yesterday that Rashford would probably be better off leaving the club this summer. However, the picture is confusing due to the fact as soon as one report indicates United want to sell Rashford then another soon appears stating he wants to stay. For example, it was reported earlier this week that United would be willing to sell most of their first-team squad, with the exception of a collection of youngsters. Rashford has been very often linked to Paris Saint-Germain and even Arsenal in the past. The 26 year old has denied that he wants to leave the club, however, writing in the Player’s Tribune about his love for the football club. ESPN adds more fuel to the fire though in regard to a potential exit by claiming that United have a set price in mind that would convince them to part ways with the player who is one game away from making 400 appearances for the club. “Manchester United are not expecting offers for Marcus Rashford, a source has told ESPN, believing that there is no market for the England striker this summer.” However, “United’s financial position means they would consider bids of north of £70 million for Rashford if they were received, but they are not expecting any team to match that valuation. The club are not actively looking to offload the player.” “A source has told ESPN there is a feeling at Old Trafford that only Paris Saint-Germain could meet United’s fee demands and match Rashford’s wage request.” In all likelihood it seems Rashford probably falls into the category of Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot as players who INEOS would rather keep but would not turn down ludicrous money for, as only Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are totally off limits. However, if this figure is indeed true, teams at least have a number to work off should they try and attract the Manchester United star. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Kaizer Chiefs to keep defender?
The Kaizer Chiefs management team will be making decisive calls next month. Reports say Sifiso Hlanti may be kept for some special reasons.  KAIZER CHIEFS TO KEEP SIFISO HLANTI? Hlanti, now 34, joined Amakhosi from Moroka Swallows in July 2021. The Durban-born star went on to mark 58 matches that have included four goals and one assist. As June approaches, Kaizer Chiefs are yet to table a new offer before Hlanti’s contract with the club ends on 30 June, though the club have an option to renew the deal. According to this latest report, Hlanti is seen as a highly-valued disciplined professional by Kaizer Chiefs management, and may therefore kept for those reasons. “Hlanti is very much valued at Chiefs. He’s a good professional who doesn’t drink or smoke and plays a very crucial role in the background,” a source told the Citizen. “[Kaizer] Chiefs management won’t have a problem with him staying for one more season, but they will leave that decision to the new coach. Once they appoint a new coach, he will have the final say on whether Hlanti says or leaves,” the report concluded. Sifiso Hlanti’s full career numbers: Golden Arrows : Three games. AmaZulu: Three assists in 30 games Bidvest Wits: Two goals, eight assists in 156 games Moroka Swallows: One goal, one assist in 18 games Kaizer Chiefs: Four goals, one assist in 59 games. FINAL MONTH Amakhosi supporters are in love with their team again, thanks to last weekend’s exciting 2-1 win over SuperSport United in Polokwane where Mduduzi Shabalala and Christian Saile scored. Looking ahead, Kaizer Chiefs have season-defining fixtures next month. The set will include three home games and two respective trips to Durban and Cape Town. May Fixtures: Thursday 2 May – Mamelodi Sundowns – Home Tuesday 7 May – TS Galaxy – Home Sunday 12 May – AmaZulu – Away Saturday 18 May – Polokwane City – Home Saturday 25 May- Cape Town Spurs – Away. Chiefs Msimango a guard of honour is a sign of respect
Chiefs Msimango a guard of honour is a sign of respect
‘I think the team will respect them enough to give them what is due to them,’ said the Chiefs captain. Kaizer Chiefs captain Given Msimango says Amakhosi will give Mamelodi Sundowns a guard of honour if Masandawana have won the DStv Premiership title by the time the two sides meet at FNB Stadium on Thursday. Sundowns will win the title for a seventh consecutive season if they can beat Amakhosi, but will have won it already by kick off if Stellenbosch lose at home to Golden Arrows on Wednesday. That could lead to the possibility of Chiefs paying tribute to their rivals before kick off. “We are professionals. I think while the team (Kaizer Chiefs) was at its highest point and winning things a lot of teams honoured them with a guard of honour as a sign of respect. That is one of the highest achievements in South African football (winning the league). “Of course if it does happen … and they are champions before we play them, I think the team will respect them enough to give them what is due to them and still make the game a very competitive one.” Chiefs are focused on finishing as high as possible in the table, with five games left to play in the season, though they will have their work cut out to get maximum points against Rulani Mokwena’s all-conquering outfit, who are on target to finish the campaign without losing a single league match. ‘As competitive as possible’ “We want to try and make the game as competitive as possible … we must try to control what we do on the pitch,” added Msimango. “Everything else is background noise …. we must just try and get maximum points to propel us in the league, so we can to be in a much higher position than we are now.” Msimango will be without his regular central defensive partner Edmilson Dove for this game, with the Mozambican suspended for the next two matches. It remains to be seen who Cavin Johnson plays alongsie Msimango, with Zitha Kwinika, Thatayoni Ditlhokwe and Njabulo Ngcobo all available. “We have competent individuals at Chiefs,” added Msimango. “Whoever slots in is capable of doing the job. Even if I was the one out I would be confident my replacement could come in and do the job. We are looking forward to the game, there should be a full house at FNB Stadium and we are excited about it.”

Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Keagan Dolly is rumoured to be leaving the club after rejecting a new contract on a reduced salary. Dolly’s time at Naturena is up The former Montpellier and Sundowns attacking midfielder fractured a toe and could miss the remainder of the campaign. He has played only EIGHT times across all competitions this season, including seven in the league with a solitary assist. Is that good enough for a player boasting his calibre, experience and salary? “Kaizer Chiefs are considering the exit of Keagan Dolly as they look to restructure the club and technical team in the off-season. As the highest-paid player at the club, early discussions have been lowered terms. The 31-year-old is likely to part ways if no agreement is made,” wrote the publication.  Keagan Dolly of Kaizer Chiefs celebrates a goal with teammates Ashley Du Preez during DStv Premiership 2022/23 football match between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC at Soccer City on 01 April 2023 ©Gavin Barker/BackpagePix Dolly is a top earner at Kaizer Chiefs 31-year-old Keagan Dolly, a vastly experienced star with stints in France and a glorious spell with Mamelodi Sundowns under his belt, is the highest-paid player at Naturena. He takes home a reported R1.4 Million a month. Here are the monthly salaries of the top earning Glamour Boys: Keagan Dolly – R1,4 Million Itumeleng Khune – R480,000 Zitha Kwinika – R370,000 Ashley du Preez – R300,000 Yusuf Maart – R300,000 It’s easy to envisage a situation where Khune and Dolly are no longer Chiefs players next season. That illustrates a level of money mismanagement by the club. It also reveals an opportunity for them to considerably trim the wage bill, as neither player has been an integral part of the starting XI for the last two campaigns. Image: ©Gavin Barker/BackpagePix SITHEBE STAYING PUT Speaking of experienced players with uncertain futures, Siyethemba Sithebe is also on the verge of agreeing on a new deal. Soccer-Laduma reports that the former AmaZulu midfield schemer will sign a new two-year contract at Naturena when the season finishes.   “It will happen. It has started now and the club (Chiefs) has offered him (Sithebe) a two-year contract to extend at the end of the season. I think the player has done enough in the few games he has played to prove himself that he deserves a renewal. So, as it stands now, everything could be finalised before the end of the season,” said the source.  Who can step into Dolly’s boots when he leaves? Orlando Pirates striker search takes them to the lower tiers?
Orlando Pirates are ready to leave no stone unturned in their search for new attackers. They’re now digging in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Pirates are looking at several lower-league striking stars Hungry Lions striker Muzomuhle Khanyi has been on the radar for some time. According to Soccer-Laduma, Casric Stars hitman Decide Chauke is also now on their wish list. “For now, it’s an inquiry which means there is something they (Pirates) are seeing in the player. They have an interest in him hence they have inquired. It seems they are really serious about bringing in more strikers in the off-season and Decide (Chauke) is one of the players they are looking at. He is a good striker and at his age, he can be the right signing as he is only 28 years old right now,” said one source. “Their (Pirates) scouting department is doing a good job. They are looking in different directions to find the right striker or strikers to join the team next season. There will be changes in the striking department next season and that’s why they are looking at Decide (Chauke) from Casric Stars,” said the second source. Man United target Max Kilman Marc Guehi and Edmond Tapsoba as back-ups to Jarrad Branthwaite Man United News And Transfer News
Man United target Max Kilman Marc Guehi and Edmond Tapsoba as back-ups to Jarrad Branthwaite Man United News And Transfer News
1 Jarrad Branthwaite is Manchester United’s preferred defensive reinforcement but Max Kilman, Edmond Tapsoba and Marc Guehi are the club’s alternatives should they be unable to complete a deal for the Everton youngster. The defence has been a major concern all season as United have gifted goal after goal to opposition attacks home and away. It is a well-known fact that INEOS aim to bolster Erik ten Hag’s defensive unit this summer but with so many names linked to the club, it can be challenging to know who exactly the club is looking at. This season is even more confusing as there have been numerous changes at executive level at the club and INEOS are still awaiting the result of Dan Ashworth’s legal case with Newcastle to be resolved before he can take up the role of sporting director. One defensive target that is locked in is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. In fact it has been relayed here that United aim to get an early deal done with the Merseyside club, due to their dire financial state. However, while Gleison Bremer, Jean-Clair Todino and Ronald Araujo have been frequently mentioned as key targets for the Red Devils, GIVEMESPORT asserts they have different priorities should a deal for Branthwaite fail to materialise. “Manchester United have pinpointed Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba as targets in the event of being unable to lure Jarrad Branthwaite to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.” This is because in spite of the Goodison Park side’s economic woes, “it is understood that the Red Devils are concerned that Everton will remain stubborn when they up the ante in their pursuit of the 21-year-old.” “GMS sources have been informed that Guehi and Kilman have been identified as alternative options to Branthwaite after the scouting department has been tasked with running the rule over central defenders currently on the books of Premier League rivals, and they will consider making a move for the duo.” “Tapsoba, who has been described as ‘frightening’ in aerial duels, has also played a key role in Leverkusen clinching the first Bundesliga title in their history.” At 23 years old, Guehi does fit the INEOS profile of being Premier League proven and seemingly ready to take the next step his career to a bigger club than Crystal Palace. Kilman has not been mentioned as frequently but once more he has starred for Wolves and he is Premier League proven, having played 123 top flight games for the Molineux side. However, it is probably a surprise to many that the English defender seemingly features so high on United’s list. Tapsoba is another interesting profile and at 25 years old may be ready to try a different league and challenge after winning the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen this season. However, the temptation of Champions League football would probably make it hard for United to strike a deal for the defender. With a vast array of defenders on the move this summer, it will be interesting to see who ends up where this summer as the defensive landscape at Old Trafford could look very different by September. 3 games Jurgens farewell new kit and new manager? Liverpool FC in May Liverpool FC
3 games Jurgens farewell new kit and new manager? Liverpool FC in May Liverpool FC
A rollercoaster season is almost at its end and so is Jurgen Klopp‘s time at Liverpool. May signals the end of one era and the start of another, but there is football to play before then. One month ago, hotels were booked for Dublin, days off were planned in the case of a Premier League win and a trophy parade was on the cards. April transpired to bring down Liverpool’s season, though, and now the picture looks very different. With the pressure lessened, hopefully the Reds can regain some form to send Klopp off on a positive note. Elsewhere, the U21s go for glory in the Premier League 2 play-offs, Liverpool Women have three tough games to conclude a good WSL campaign and a new home kit is to be launched.   The new home kit Official Images: Liverpool FC x Nike Home ? pic.twitter.com/UpK8WrEkby — Sneaker Market RO (@sneakermarketro) April 27, 2024 With the new home shirt being launched very soon, expect to see the players wearing next season’s strip in the final match of the season against Wolves. It could be Nike’s last new kit, with Adidas reportedly set to take over as supplier from 2025. Some of the leaks online have divided opinion, so let’s hope it looks better in person. Spoiler, it’s red!   Tottenham (H) – May 5 Tottenham manager and boyhood Liverpool fan Ange Postecoglou brings his team to Anfield, with considerably more on the line than the Reds. The North London team go into the weekend with a Champions League spot out of their hands, knowing they must capitalise on any slip-ups from Aston Villa, whom Liverpool in the subsequent match. Meanwhile, the Reds will be playing for pride, but also to impress incoming head coach Arne Slot who will no-doubt be intently watching from the Netherlands. Should Liverpool pick up a point from this match, they will mathematically secure a top-four finish.   Aston Villa (A) – May 13 Liverpool must then wait eight days for their next match, against Aston Villa. Originally, the Reds would have expected to be playing a European semi-final in the build-up to this one, but it will actually be the opposition who have less preparation time. Aston Villa‘s Europa Conference League semi-final second leg takes place, against Olympiacos in Greece, on the preceding Thursday night, and the Reds will be hoping to their extra rest proves an advantage.   Klopp’s Anfield farewell – May 19 It is a day that we hoped wouldn’t come to pass for a long time but, when Klopp dropped the bombshell that he was leaving at the end of the season, supporters quickly started planning for his last match. Due to the results in April, the match itself against Wolves won’t be of much significance. However, the occasion will live long in the memory. Expect a display of art and passion from the Kop, celebrating the manager’s near-nine years at the club. Given the circumstances, it is fair to say there won’t be a dry eye in the house among those lucky enough to be there, and that includes the departing manager.   The new era begins With Feyenoord’s season finishing on the same day as Liverpool’s, Slot should be off on holiday after that, but we can still expect an official announcement from the club in the subsequent couple of weeks after the season’s climax. While Slot is unlikely to do much actual work at the club in May, behind the scenes, things will be prepared for his arrival as the club begin to ramp up transfer and contract talks. The new sporting director, Richard Hughes, officially starts his new role on June 1.   A tricky finish to a solid season Liverpool Women have enjoyed a quietly satisfying second campaign back in the Women’s Super League, and they could even finish as high as fourth. This wouldn’t bring a Champions League place, but it would mean a finish above rivals Man United, whom they play on May 5. Before that, though, they face title-chasers Chelsea, on May 1, in a difficult match at Prenton Park that, if won, would represent arguably their best result of the season. Finally, they finish the season with a trip to Leicester on May 18 after a 13-day gap between fixtures.   U21s can still win silverware The nature of the restructured Premier League 2 means that the top 16 have the chance to lift the trophy. Having finished eighth, Liverpool enter the play-offs and will play Crystal Palace at home on May 5. Should they progress, they will have two more matches to win before a final that would decide the overall champions. Despite having a strong squad to finish the season, they actually lost three of their last four matches. Coach Barry Lewtas will hope that now, with a few games back together under their belts, they players can gel for the play-offs. Expect to see Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, Bobby Clark, James McConnell and even Stefan Bajcetic involved.   U18s finish the season The 2023/24 season has been full of ups and downs for the U18s. With some of their key names being promoted to more senior football, they have had a very inexperienced squad at times. Before the likes of Danns and Koumas were taken, there were some promising performances that included a 7-1 win over Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup. The latter part of the season hasn’t gone to plan, though, with the nadir a 9-1 home defeat against a strong Man United side. The young Reds will hope to end the season on a high when they play Derby on May 11, a match live on LFCTV.   Heysel anniversary – May 29 At the end of the month, like every year, we should mark the anniversary of the Heysel disaster, when 39 supporters died before the 1985 European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus. This was the result of an unstable wall collapsing at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels following fighting in a neutral section of the ground, that culminated in a charge from the Liverpool side. Fourteen Liverpool fans were convicted of manslaughter while the head of the Belgian FA, Albert Roosens, was given six-month suspended prison sentence and police captain Johan Mahieu was given a nine-month suspended sentence. Kaizer Chiefs left-back Sifiso Hlanti will stay at the club for one more season as the club values his seniority at Naturena. Hlanti set for one more year According to The Citizen, 34-year-old Sifiso Hlanti will remain at Kaizer Chiefs for another year as the club ponders triggering an extension on his deal expiring in June. Senior figures value his role in helping youngsters settle into the rigours of first-team football. Hlanti has been a key operator once again, despite being consistently linked with an exit, making 18 league appearances. This will reportedly be formalised once a new coach is installed. He’s had stints with Golden Arrows, Chippa, Thanda Royal Zulu, AmaZulu, Bidvest Wits, Swallows and now Chiefs. “Hlanti is very much valued at Chiefs. Soccer-Laduma reports that the former AmaZulu midfield schemer will sign a new two-year contract at Naturena when the season finishes.   “It will happen. It has started now and the club (Chiefs) has offered him (Sithebe) a two-year contract to extend at the end of the season. Kaizer Chiefs veteran handed a surprise lifeline?

Three key players return for Pirates ahead of CT City clash
Orlando Pirates will have three key players available for their clash against Cape Town City on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams will play at the Cape Town Stadium, with a CAF spot up for grabs. The Buccaneers are still chasing second spot in the DStv Premiership. With Stellenbosch looking strong this season, Jose Riveiro might need his side to win all their remaining games to stand a chance. Sunday’s victory came at a cost for the Pirates who lost right-back Thabiso Lebitso to injury, ruling him out of Wednesday’s fixture. This could mean another opportunity for Thabiso Monyane, who put on a tireless shift after coming on as a replacement. Pirates to play City without Lebitso, but welcome three players The midfield duo of Patrick Maswanganyi and Makhehleni Makhaula will be absent from the Bucs’ travelling party. The players are suspended for the match after receiving bookings at Harry Gwala. Despite these setbacks, Bucs have some significant boosts, as Sipho Chaine, Deon Hotto, and Miguel Timm returning from suspension. The trio missed the trip to the Midlands. Pirates’ opponents City will welcome back defender Keanu Cupido, who has completed a two-match suspension after picking up a red card. Eric Tinkler’s men are sixth on the log and still have a chance to finish in the top three. Despite an excellent start to the season, the Cape outfit have not registered a win since December 2023. They have claimed just four out of a possible 15 points in their five most recent outings, drawing four and losing once. City playing against Pirates at home should give them some sort of an advantage. Pirates will be without their star player Patrick Maswanganyi on Wednesday After consecutive stalemates in games against Polokwane City and Lamontville Golden Arrows, a win is a must for Tinkler. They will be determined to turn their fortunes around with a winning performance against the Soweot Giants Unlike City, Pirates have been on a roll, defeating Royal AM 4-0 in their last match. The victory was their third in a row and their fourth match unbeaten, taking their points tally to 10 in their last five games, with only one defeat. A standout feature in Pirates’ recent run has been their efficiency in front of goal. They scored 14 goals during this period, while their defence has kept things quiet at the other end, conceding only five goals. Pirates meet a City outfit desperate to arrest their slide down the standings.

Orlando Pirates are making strides in their pursuit of Namibia and AmaZulu full-back Riaan Hanamub. The 29-year-old impressed at Afcon. Orlando Pirates seal deal for Hanamub 29-year-old Riaan Hanamub has been a cornerstone of the AmaZulu side this season, appearing in 25 of their 26 league outings. “It’s every player’s dream to play for one of the biggest clubs in the country,” Hanamub told iDiski Times when asked about the links to Jose Riveiro’s Buccaneers. “But if it doesn’t happen, AmaZulu is also a big brand and I’m really happy to be here and always willing to give my best.”   “I don’t know [if] I should indulge in that because it’s not my space,” he replied. “I’m here now and I’m fully committed to the team, and to keep working hard. You never know what God’s plans are and I always trust in God’s plans. “I don’t want to put myself in situations where I would lose my focus.”    Riaan Hanamub Image Source: (@RianHanamub/Twitter) ORLANDO PIRATES PAIR SUSPENDED Patrick Maswanganyi and Makhehlene Makhaula will both serve a suspension this week, meaning they are unavailable for the Sea Robbers’ visit to Green Point to face Cape Town City. Kickoff between the Citizens and the Sea Robbers on Wednesday 1 May is at 15:00. With 16 goals in their last four outings across all competitions, Orlando Pirates are starting to purr at the right time. A win against City is imperative to keep pace with the in-form Stellenbosch in the race for a top-two finish. Stellies’ charge is being led by the red-hot Iqraam Rayners who has 13 goals in the league this term. Orlando Pirates fans are expectant on Soweto Derby Day. Kaizer Chiefs star back from the dead to earn new contract?
Kaizer Chiefs have made a U-Turn on the future of experienced central midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe who looked destined to leave the club. Sithebe is staying put According to Soccer-Laduma, former AmaZulu midfield schemer Sithebe will sign a new two-year contract at Naturena when the season finishes. Siyethemba Sithebe of Kaizer Chiefs challenged by Abbubaker Mobara of AmaZulu during the DStv Premiership 2022/23 match between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on the 03 September 2022 Photo: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is back in the fold 31-year-old Sithebe seems to have turned his fortunes around with a string of solid displays in recent weeks. The ex-Usuthu man has been preferred to Venezuelan schemer Edson Castillo in the engine room, alongside former Stellies man Sibongiseni Mthethwa. That has also meant the minutes have dried up for 22-year-old Samkelo Zwane. Sithebe’s tally of league outings this term still only stands at six, however. Amakhosi need to slicken things up in all departments Amakhosi have scored 21 goals in 25 games. That means 10 top-flight teams have scored more than them. To be placed 11th out of 16 in that metric isn’t acceptable for a club of this stature, but it’s nothing new. They were the only side in the top six with a negative goal difference. It’s clear where the issues lie. With a total of 41 goals featuring in their 25 matches, The Glamour Boys have been anything but glamorous. That tally is by far the lowest in the DStv Premiership, the next lowest total goals-per-game figure is 44. That belongs to AmaZulu. Fans haven’t exactly been treated to champagne football this season at FNB Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs fans encapsulating the passion of a Soweto Derby. Come back of the year? Star saves his Kaizer Chiefs career!
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be ready to make some major changes to their playing staff next season. Even though there have been names linked with a move to Chiefs, the club is also set to release some. Players like Siyethemba Sithebe and Sifiso Hlanti have been mentioned, with their deals up soon. They have been joined by Happy Mashiane and Zitha Kwinika of late. One player that has been fighting those exit rumours at Chiefs is Njabulo Ngcobo. Now besides those names, the likes of Edmilson Dove, George Matlou and Keagan Dolly will see their contracts run out. Sithebe was primed for Chiefs exit door Sithebe is the one player that was thought to be nailed on for an exit at Chiefs, the dreadlocked midfielder hardly featured under both Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson. Yes, he has been injured for the bulk of the season, but before and after his knock, he was not being considered for match day squads. It then came as a surprise when he was selected to start the 0-0 draw against Cape Town City. He then also started the loss to Stellenbosch.  Last month, the publication reported that Chiefs were considering a contract renewal for Sithebe. This would’ve not been plausible for many of an Amakhosi persuasion at the start of the year. But now, according to Soccer-Laduma the club is lining up a new two-year deal for the player.  Club offers two-year extension? “It will happen. It has started now and the club (Chiefs) has offered him (Sithebe) a two-year contract to extend at the end of the season. I think the player has done enough in the few games he has played to prove himself that he deserves a renewal. So, as it stands now, everything could be finalised before the end of the season,” said the source.  Should this prove true, it would represent a massive upturn in fortunes for Sithebe at Chiefs.

Did we all miss this? Shabalalas emotional Luke Fleurs tribute
Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways over the weekend, with a rare 2-1 win over SuperSport United.  Chiefs finally snapped a three-game losing streak which also saw them failing to find the back of the net.  Prior to this Chiefs had won just one game in their last 10 matches in all competitions. During that run, they had not been able to score in a total of seven matches. But all of that changed courtesy of a thunderous Christian Saile opener. It then looked as if the Amakhosi faithful were going to be met by their customary disappointment. This after former Orlando Pirates striker Terrence Dzvukamanja converted a penalty conceded by veteran left-back Sifiso Hlanti to level matters. Shabalala secures victory for Chiefs Credit to Chiefs, however, as they showed a strong sense of urgency after that SuperSport leveller instead, showing a fighting spirit. In the end, they were eventually rewarded, this through an impressive Mduduzi Shabalala strike. The youngster was found just outside the box and met the ball with a well struck half-volley, giving stand in keeper Washington Arubi no chance! Pays tribute to the fallen Fleurs The goal sparked jubilation among Chiefs fans and players and in the midst of all that euphoria, Shabalala’s celebration was missed. In that celebration though, he appeared to pay tribute to his now late former teammate Luke Fleurs. He did so by holding up the number two and then the number six to the heavens with his hands. That was a signal for the jersey number 26 that he was assigned but was yet to wear at the club.  Afterwards, he hit the gwaragwara dance that was known to be the centre-back’s trademark move.  Chiefs players did say that they’re dedicating the rest of the season to Fleurs. They will hope this is the start of a strong run until the end of the season. It doesn’t get any bigger than their next game, however. They’re set for the ultimate test when they take on the unbeaten champions and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. This game is set to take place on Thursday evening at the FNB Stadium.

Vinicius hits two as Real Madrid eye final after snatching draw
Vinicius hits two as Real Madrid eye final after snatching draw
‘In this competition it’s important not to lose, and we’re here because we haven’t lost yet,’ said Vinicius. Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior scored a double, including an 83rd-minute equalising penalty, to snatch a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich on Tuesday that puts the Spanish side in the driving seat for the return leg of the Champions League semi-final. Vinicius gave Real the lead after 24 minutes of the first leg but Bayern scored twice in four second-half minutes to wrestle back control, Leroy Sane with a stunning opener and Harry Kane converting a penalty. Kim Min-jae fouled Rodrygo in the box with eight minutes remaining and Vinicius stepped up, drowning out a chorus of boos and whistles to blast home. “In this competition it’s important not to lose, and we’re here because we haven’t lost yet,” said Vinicius. “I’m very happy that I was able score two goals, and now we need to have a magical night at home,” he added. The draw makes Madrid favourites to progress in next week’s return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu but Bayern, who dominated large parts of the match, will still have hope of making it to the final at Wembley in June. “It’s a good result for the second leg,” Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “But nothing has been decided yet. “Bayern have high quality. They have players like Musiala or Sane who can hurt us.” “It feels a bit strange,” said Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel. “But the situation is very clear. Win in Madrid, then off to Wembley. The winner takes it all. “We will be ready and we accept the fight. We will go to Madrid with self-confidence. We have to be brave.” – Familiar opponents – Before the match, the Bayern fans unveiled a giant banner depicting Franz Beckenbauer which spanned from the grass to the rafters. It was a fitting tribute on a night featuring the most-played fixture in European Cup history. Famed for their composure on the biggest of stages in this competition, 14-time winners Real struggled early on as Bayern dominated possession while spurred on by a ferocious home crowd. Sane had a chance after just 40 seconds and another minutes later, while Kane chipped a shot from halfway just over the bar as the visitors struggled to cope. Madrid’s success in this competition this season, including in their quarter-final win over Manchester City, has been built on absorbing pressure before striking. The visitors repeated the trick for the opener, breaking Bayern’s dominance in ruthlessly simple fashion while showing the hosts how easy scoring goals can be. Toni Kroos collected the ball from a corner and drilled a defence-splitting pass along the ground which found Vinicius galloping in acres of space on the edge of the area. Without a Bayern player in range, Vinicius calmly slotted the opener past a helpless Manuel Neuer, changing the complexion of the match completely. Bayern, who have six European Cups of their own, were not awed and continued to push but could not break through; their best chance of the remainder of the half came through a free kick, with Kane finding a huge gap in the wall but blasting wide. With Real seemingly in cruise control, Bayern grabbed hold of the match early in the second-half, scoring twice in four minutes. Eric Dier found Sane down the right flank. The Germany winger, who had missed several chances in the first half, dribbled into the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot. It was his first goal for Bayern in any competition since October. The hosts’ next attack came down the left, with the ever-dangerous Jamal Musiala felled by Lucas Vazquez in the box. Referee Clement Turpin pointed straight to the spot and Kane duly sent Andriy Lunin the wrong way to take the lead. With Bayern in control, Real went on the counter-attack and it was Kim’s turn to give away a clumsy penalty, with Vinicius confidently slotting in the equaliser. “We have to continue with cool heads, rest until next week, and we will give everything to leave the Bernabeu qualified for London,” Vinicius said.

Andre Onanas ex-teammate brutally accuses Harry Maguire of putting the goalkeeper in trouble Man United News And Transfer News
Andre Onanas ex-teammate brutally accuses Harry Maguire of putting the goalkeeper in trouble Man United News And Transfer News
1 Andre Onana’s former teammate at Ajax Ryan Babel has accused the Manchester United defenders, especially Harry Maguire, of making the goalkeeper look worse than he actually is. Onana’s life at Old Trafford started horribly as he made high-profile errors that dearly cost United, especially in the Champions League. The Cameroonian’s howlers were intensely scrutinised and he became the object of criticism and at times, even ridicule. However, Onana seems to have now turned a corner and is showing signs of what prompted United to fork out huge money to secure his services from Inter Milan last summer. During a tumultuous period for the Red Devils in which they’ve struggled to achieve consistency in results and performances, he has come up with some fine saves that have kept the team in games. He however suffered a setback during United’s 1-1 draw against Burnley when he conceded a late penalty, which Zeki Amdouni scored to deny the 20-time English champions all three points. Babel – now retired – gave his opinion on Onana’s situation at United and bizarrely blamed Maguire in particular for his troubles. The former winger, who also played for Liverpool pointed out, “I know the spotlight is on Onana a lot in this United team, but the mistakes we’ve seen are as a result of a combination of things.” “Onana, at Ajax, had a back four in front of him who were all incredible with the ball at their feet. Respectfully, if Onana is then playing with Harry Maguire, then that immediately puts Onana in trouble, because he’s playing with defenders who aren’t opening themselves up, or making the right runs, so that Onana has options to play, and that puts him in trouble.” “At Ajax, Onana had the privilege of four great defenders, and Frenkie de Jong in front of them. Onana is a great goalkeeper, but they made him look even better. If a set of players don’t work well together, it makes some of those players in particular look terrible. In this case, that’s what Onana has experienced.” Babel added, “Absolutely, though, some mistakes have been completely his fault; sometimes you question his positioning, or you just wonder what he’s doing.” “He’s not been himself in my opinion, but from what I know of him, and what I’ve seen, he’s an incredibly talented goalkeeper, and I hope that more people can see that next season for Manchester United.” Onana and United return to action next week when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe appointing Manchester Uniteds Chief Financial Officer is monumental for the club Man United News And Transfer News
Sir Jim Ratcliffe appointing Manchester Uniteds Chief Financial Officer is monumental for the club Man United News And Transfer News
1 The latest executive changes to the structure at Manchester United after the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been announced. While the departure of Patrick Stewart, who was just a placeholder till Omar Berrada came in was expected although a bit earlier than expected, the second change has huge ramifications for the future of the club. United’s Chief Financial Officer Cliff Baty is leaving and in his place will arrive Roger Bell, the INEOS CFO with more than 40 years of experience in the field of finance. Not only was this move never mooted to be in the works, but it directly conflicts with the parameter of the deal made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe to take a stake in the club. Under the terms of the deal, as is in the public domain, Sir Jim was going to be in control of sporting matters while the financial side of the club was still under the Glazers. Every appointment before Bell’s was in that direction, especially the potential arrival of Dan Ashworth and the signing of Jason Wilcox. However, it is curious to see an INEOS man take over what is the top “financial” job at the club. The role of the Chief Financial Officer is extremely delineated from sporting matters and performances on the pitch. It is why Cliff Baty was a name rarely heard of by fans whenever there were talks about United’s poor performances and structure. The brunt would always be borne by Director of Football John Murtough or the then CEOs Richard Arnold or Ed Woodward. Baty would only be heard from when United held conference calls with investors to inform them of the latest financial condition of the club. No sporting matters would be decided by the CFO which is why this appointment signifies only one of two things, both monumental. Either Sir Jim Ratcliffe is already overreaching his authority at the club, which means Glazers’ power is a lot less than first thought when the deal was confirmed. Or, there is a lot more to this deal that is not known and the public briefings were a way for everyone to save face while most of the power is already in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s hands. Either way, this appointment, likely to be the least glamorous in the long run, has the potential to be the most significant one in the “new era”. Manchester United announce nominees for Aprils Player of the Month award Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have announced the three players who will battle it out against each other for the club’s April Player of the Month award. United played six matches across all competitions. In this period, Erik ten Hag’s men recorded two victories, one loss and three draws – the most recent one of which was the 1-1 against Burnley at Old Trafford last weekend. Club captain Bruno Fernandes is competing to win the prestigious award against teammates Alejandro Garnacho and Harry Maguire Fernandes has enjoyed a sensational April that saw him bag an impressive seven goals and two assists in the six games he featured. The Portugal international found the back of the net against Chelsea, Liverpool, and Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final and also grabbed braces vs. Bournemouth and Sheffield United. Such was the level of Fernandes’ impact on the team in April that he was named man-of-the-match on three of the six occasions United faced off against their opponents. Three of Fernandes’ goals are also in the running to claim United’s Goal of the Month prize too. These are his headed finish at Chelsea, his fantastic strike from the halfway line against Liverpool and finally the rocket he produced in the 4-2 triumph over Premier League strugglers Sheffield United. Garnacho capped the month with two goals and one assist in the six games he featured. The 19-year-old is on the three-man shortlist for a Player of the Month award for the second consecutive month, in what is shaping up to be a very productive individual campaign for him. The Argentine winger kicked off April with a double against Chelsea and it was very unfortunate that he was part of the losing side on that occasion. One of his goals – the headed finish he came up with from Antony’s sublime trivela assist – is an entry in United’s shortlist for the Goal of the Month award. His assist was for Maguire’s equalising goal vs. the Blades which paved the way for United to complete a sensational comeback. In Marcus Rashford’s absence due to injury in the Reds’ last two games, Garnacho really stepped up and stood up to be counted. Finally, Maguire also scored two goals against Coventry City and then in the next game vs. Sheffield. Unsurprisingly, both were headed finishes. It may go unnoticed but Maguire was available to Ten Hag for selection amidst a crippling injury crisis that forced him to mostly play alongside Casemiro at the heart of the team’s backline. The England international barely put a foot wrong. United will announce the winner of the Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards on Friday. Alvaro Fernandez: The latest on the future of hungry Man United loanee as permanent Benfica stay inches closer Man United News And Transfer News
1 Former Benfica defender Joao Manuel Pinto has urged his old employers to permanently sign “hungry” Manchester United loanee Alvaro Fernandez even as he continues to impress at the club. Fernandez joined Benfica in January after United cut short his temporary spell in Spain with Granada. He took his time to get going in Liga NOS and to convince manager Roger Schmidt of his talents and abilities. However, Fernandez’s stock appears to have risen in recent weeks. A few days ago, the youngster scored his first goal for Benfica as they secured a comfortable 3-1 win against Farense in a Liga Portugal clash. He received a sublime cross from ex-United attacker Angel Di Maria, expertly controlled the ball to bring it under his spell and then proceeded to finish it with his right foot. The full-back later opened up on the feat – which earned him widespread plaudits from some of Portugal’s biggest newspapers – and expressed his pride. According to news outlet, Record, Fernandez is poised to join Benfica on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window. Schmidt’s side are understood to be willing to trigger the  €6million (£5.1m) clause in his contract to keep him at the club for longer. However, Jornal de Notícias share a slightly different perspective and explain that the Eagles have actually not reached a final decision as to whether or not they want to permanently retain Fernandez. There is an “internal will” at Estádio da Luz to buy the Carrington academy graduate but the indecision is being driven by the uncertainty surrounding Schmidt since it’s not guaranteed that he will be the manager next season. While Benfica’s scouting department had provisionally planned to add a full-back to the ranks, the approval of whoever will be the next man in the dugout will ultimately be needed to get a deal over the line. Amidst all this, Joao Manuel Pinto spoke to O Jogo and pleaded with Benfica to speed up the acquisition of Fernandez. He said, “(Fernandez) is a player who fits into Benfica’s offensive process and ideas. He appears often in the penalty area, crosses well, moves into midfield well and defends well.” “With Carreras, Benfica can make better use of their offensive ideas. He appears in the end zone and finishes. And he also showed that he has aggression.” Pinto also noted that the fact Fernandez has a good left foot gives him an edge in his efforts to become a mainstay in the Benfica starting XI. Pinto then further stated, “A full-back has to create spaces, appear in the area, and have creativity. And Carreras has those things. He is a player with quality and hunger for the game. He has already shown that.” “I like him. He needs to play more, but he is very useful, I believe he will seize the opportunity. With playing time he acquires rhythm and confidence. It was like that with Grimaldo. You have to remember that he also had a period of adaptation and that the best time was the last one.” The 21-year-old defender will get the chance to prove himself to the Benfica bosses and the fans now that Alexander Bah is injured. 30 of our favourite photos of The Kop iconic games moments and images Liverpool FC
30 of our favourite photos of The Kop iconic games moments and images Liverpool FC
It’s 30 years since the Kop took its ‘last stand‘ and the bulldozers moved in to replace the iconic terrace with a new, all-seater stand. With that in mind, we take a walk down memory lane with 30 of our favourite photos of The Kop. We’re expecting emotional and poignant scenes like some of these below when Jurgen says his goodbye on May 19. We begin with two of the most iconic images in Liverpool FC history, Bill Shankly saluting and being serenaded by The Kop – the latter image being beautifully colourised in the excellent ‘Old Liverpool FC in Colour‘ book. Shanks said of The Kop: “The Spion Kop at Liverpool is an institution. And if you are a member of the Kop you feel as if you are a member of a big society where you’ve got thousands of friends all roundabout you. And they’re united and loyal.” WATCH: Shankly’s most ICONIC speech to 100,000 fans – after Liverpool LOST The Kop, at its brilliant best during the sixties and seventies could hold up to 25,000 supporters on a matchday, packed in hours before kick off, singing the songs of the charts and providing witty lyrics about the Reds. Here we have an image from the mid-eighties, showing the match-going attire of the era. Moving to more recently, and the two images below show The Kop before the two epic Champions League semi finals against Chelsea in 2005 (bottom) and 2007 (top). Even now, the sound generated in that 2005 semi final some who were there will say is Anfield’s loudest night. We love this image from that 2005 semi final, taken just before kick off: The Kop, since around 2001 and after it had become all-seater, has seen supporters organise impressive pre-match mosaics, none more so than this one below for the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in 2014. SEE ALSO: In photos – 20 years of The Kop’s mosaics The Kop and its flags, which today are mostly provided by the supporters group Spion Kop 1906, provide the iconic images that are screened around the world. Here’s a great image of Jurgen Klopp taking it all in during his first season at the club, before the Europa League quarter final against his old club, Borussia Dortmund – a match that would go on to write itself in the club’s history with an incredible comeback. Another of Jurgen’s most memorable nights, and arguably the greatest Anfield night at Anfield – the 4-0 comeback against Barcelona in 2019. This is how The Kop looked before that incredible night. READ: Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona: 10 things you might not remember about Anfield’s greatest night The image below isn’t of The Kop, but of the players that night celebrating in front of The Kop that night. Sticking to the European theme then, here’s the outside of The Kop during the epic parade after the 2005 Champions League final. Merseyside Police said between 750,000 and 1 million people had gathered on the streets of the city after witnessing the miracle of Istanbul the night before, with the parade starting at 4pm and going long into the night. The Kop was also the scene for celebrations outside when the Reds won the league in 2020, with fans congregating outside after Man City‘s draw with Chelsea confirmed Klopp’s side as title winners. And The Kop itself was the scene and backdrop for the rather dystopian scenes of having to lift the Premier League trophy in an empty stadium without fans. INTERVIEW: Liverpool were 8 DAYS from lifting PL trophy in front of fans! Here’s how The Kop looked during those pandemic games. Sad times indeed. Because there’s no sight better in football than The Kop pre-match. You can feel the anticipation and excitement. And the famous ‘surfer’ flag that passes over the heads pre-match. Anfield regulars will tell it could use a wash though! How The Kop looked before the title clash against Man City in 2014: The Kop reminding Everton when they last won a trophy: Before a Champions League game against PSG in 2018: The famous ‘Support and Believe’ banner: Before Roma in 2018: One of the greatest and most important images of The Kop, during the six-minute protest, displaying ‘The Truth‘ during the FA Cup game against Arsenal as Anfield sang non-stop ‘justice for the 96’. Thierry Henry said post-match: “I have such respect for this ground and these supporters. What a place this is to play football.” ‘My Liverpool – The Kop will always rule’: Always loyal, always serenading the players, The Kop pays tribute to Roberto Firmino on his final home appearance in 2023. Bobby was moved to tears post-match. ‘There are places I’ll remember all my life’: Finally, the current view from The Kop since the expansion of the Anfield Road Stand, which takes Anfield’s overall capacity to around 61,000.

Who is Roger Bell: The INEOS Chief Financial Officer taking the role at Manchester United Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have announced their latest round of executive changes at the top level and they are the biggest ones yet. Club’s interim CEO Patrick Stewart and Chief Financial Officer Cliff Baty are leaving with immediate effect. While Stewart’s role will be held in an interim capacity by Jean-Claude Blanc till July 13, which is when Omar Berrada joins, the replacement for Baty has come out of the blue. United have confirmed that Roger Bell will take over as the club’s new CFO in a name that has come out of nowhere. So, who is Roger Bell and what can United fans expect from the latest new appointment to the top post at Old Trafford? We take a look- Who is Roger Bell? Roger Bell is the Chief Financial Offer at INEOS, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s umbrella company that has INEOS sports as a division under it. He graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in Finance and Accounting in 2002 but has been the INEOS CFO since January 2001. First headquartered in the United Kingdom, United States, and Switzerland, he moved permanently to the Swiss headquarters in December 2010. It is unclear if he is still in the post of CFO though, as his LinkedIn profile shows that he is but his status update five months ago said he planned to retire “next month”. It could be a case of him being persuaded to stay on in some capacity to see through United’s transition or even the role at United being his sole responsibility going forward instead of taking on a wider remit at INEOS. He has been with INEOS for the past 40 years in different roles so he comes with a lot of experience on the financial side of things. It is arguably the most important appointment since Sir Jim Ratcliffe came in since, on paper, he was supposed to be in control of only the sporting matters. Changing the CFO from a Glazer man to an INEOS individual says that Sir Jim’s influence is already extending beyond sporting matters. It remains to be seen how involved INEOS get in that side of things but sporting matters would always go hand in hand with financials so Roger Bell will have his hands full with United. The club is perilously close to FFP and PSR rules and a pivotal window awaits. The role of a Chief Financial Officer doesn’t include actually spending money on transfers and deciding the budget but the overall monetary health of the club, which has finally become precarious after years of active extraction of the same by the Glazers, means he is taking over at a delicate time. 1 Less than 12 months ago, Marcus Rashford was making headlines for rattling opposition nets at will. The Manchester United superstar was enjoying the hottest streak of his career, eventually ending the 2022/23 campaign with 30 goals and 10 assists to his name in all competitions. With Cristiano Ronaldo out of the picture, Erik ten Hag viewed Rashford as his talisman, who was aptly rewarded with a new long-term contract. Fast forward to this week, the England international is still in the news. But for all the wrong reasons. The 26-year-old is no longer a guaranteed fixture in Ten Hag’s side, with many fans pushing for Alejandro Garnacho to replace Rashford on the left flank for good. From the underwhelming form on the pitch to injuries, and that infamous Belfast outing too, Rashford has frequently attracted negative headlines this season, so much so that it seems not many see a way back for him. In his latest piece for The Athletic, reputed journalist Andy Mitten talked about how Rashford is being perceived among the fanbase, underlining that “love for him” has slowly diminished. Mitten revealed that a recent United We Stand fanzine poll saw only 14.1 per cent of fans admitting they would be “gutted” seeing the academy product depart. Rashford has felt the heat himself in recent weeks, leading to him reacting emotionally on social media. “It is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough,” he posted on X. I appreciate your support! It is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough https://t.co/MUfiU0JwEb — Marcus Rashford (@MarcusRashford) April 25, 2024 Mitten seemingly has the solution for this toxic situation involving the forward who has contributed to nearly 200 goals in an inconsistent team since graduating from the academy. Mentioning other much-scrutinised academy graduates like Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, Mitten writes, “What’s the alternative? There’s a big world out there, one where you can enjoy life and smile, as his friend Jesse Lingard is finding out.” This coming from Mitten, who more often than not stays away from sensational claims, highlights just how frustrating things have become behind the scenes. A move away may be for the ‘best’. Still, this is, however, easier said than done. First of all, it remains unclear if the Wythenshawe-born player, a boyhood United fan, wants to exit Old Trafford. Secondly, United only recently extended his contract through 2028. All reports in recent days have hinted that while Rashford is not untouchable anymore, United are not actively looking to part ways with him. In short, expect the drama to continue at the Theatre of Dreams! Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Super impressive stats that prove Bruno Fernandes phenomenal impact for Man United in disappointing campaign Man United News And Transfer News
Super impressive stats that prove Bruno Fernandes phenomenal impact for Man United in disappointing campaign Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have endured a very underwhelming and frustrating season but it could have arguably been much worse without the contributions of their fantastic captain Bruno Fernandes. United currently lie in sixth place in the Premier League table with four top-flight games left to play. The team has suffered 12 losses and six draws, the most recent one of which was against Burnley last weekend. Earlier in the campaign, the Red Devils were also knocked out of both the Champions League and Carabao Cup in humiliating fashion. Erik ten Hag’s men have been accused of lacking a recognisable style of play and a coherent way of beating opponents and it’s believed that these are some of the main reasons behind why the Dutchman’s job at Old Trafford is hanging in the balance. It has been suggested that a managerial change could be made in the summer, with a number of top coaches being lined up to potentially replace the under-fire Ten Hag. However, the 54-year-old coach can thank his skipper, Fernandes, for any little hope he has of convincing the club’s top brass that he’s the right man to lead United forward. During a tumultuous term, Fernandes has been one of the few beacons of brilliance fans have leaned on, especially in recent games. The Portugal international is in red-hot form as evidenced by the fact that he has scored seven goals and registered two assists in United’s last six games across all competitions. Even more impressive, he has created nine chances in each of the club’s last three clashes vs. Coventry City, Sheffield United and Burnley. Bruno Fernandes created NINE chances (4 big chances) against Burnley, he is the only player in the Premier League this season to create 9 chances in back-to-back games. Vision. pic.twitter.com/hy726U99oE — Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) April 27, 2024 Squawka have unveiled several metrics showcasing Fernandes’ top rank within United, emphasizing his pivotal importance to the team throughout this season. The Portuguese midfielder has scored the most goals at the club and also has the most assists to his name. To be more specific, Fernandes has plundered 15 goals and 11 assists in 45 matches across all competitions. Other metrics in which the 29-year-old ranks above his teammates include: shots, shots on target, chances created, high turnovers (situations where possession of the ball is lost in potentially dangerous areas), possessions, possessions won in the final third of the pitch (regaining possession in the opponent’s defensive area leading to goalscoring opportunities) and possessions won in the middle third of the pitch (regaining possession in the central area of the pitch to sustain pressure and mount attacking ventures). He also leads the team in terms of the most successful final third passes, most successful passes into the opponent’s half, most successful passes into the opposition box, most through balls, most flick-ons, most lay-offs, most crosses and most duels. These stats highlight Fernandes’ exceptional quality, versatility and proficiency across various aspects of play. Bruno Fernandes for Man Utd in the Premier League this season: ◉ Most G/A ◉ Most goals ◉ Most assists ◉ Most shots ◉ Most shots on target ◉ Most chances created ◉ Most high turnovers ◉ Most possession won ◉ Most possession won final ⅓ ◉ Most possession won middle ⅓… pic.twitter.com/WA1CXgJ6yv — Squawka (@Squawka) April 29, 2024 Not only is he a creative playmaker and versatile attacker, but he’s also a key star in transition as proven by the number of passes he delivers into dangerous territories of the pitch. He’s also strong defensively and is actively engaged in proceedings considering he has won the most duels. It sheds light on his tenacity and relentless work rate. Amidst suggestions that INEOS could accept offers for him in the summer, the above could perhaps convince the new powerbrokers at United why it wouldn’t be advisable to cut ties with the midfielder just yet. Galaxy give Mokwena 24 hour or else
The ongoing battle between Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena and TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic could end up in court. On Monday, Mokwena accused Ramovic of instructing his players to intentionally injure Bongani Zungu during Masandawana’s 3-0 win. Zungu’s dangerous tackle broke Bernard Parker’s leg in October 2023. Mokwena’s comments had led the Mpumalanga-based club to threaten with legal action. The Rockets says the Downs coach has 24 hours to prove the accusations he made or action will be taken. “TS Galaxy FC takes serious exception to the comments made by Mamelodi Sundowns FC coach Rulani Mokwena insinuating that our Head Coach instigated the injury suffered by Sundowns player Bongani Zungu during our match last night,” the club said on X. Mokwena and Ramovic take their ‘battle’ to the next level “Mokwena lied blatantly through his teeth which we deem to be a serious embarrassment to our game never mind the club that he represents. “If Mokwena still believes in his own lies, we are now calling him out publicly to prove his claim within 24 hours, failing which our Club and our Coach will assert their rights in law!” Despite Sundowns winning 3-0 against the Rockets in a league match, Mokwena questioned the challenge on Zungu. “I am disappointed with the tackle on Bongani Zungu, very disappointed,” he told media. “Because I was told already last night that the coach on the opposition showed that tackle that Bongani Zungu did on Bernard Parker and said ‘Don’t forget what Bongani Zungu did’.” Masandawana coach accused Galaxy of avenging Parker Ramovic as usual, wasted no time in hitting back to Mokwena. “I think the best thing is that he should watch [the incident] again on TV. Maybe I’m wrong, it is not what he thought but… if Mokwena wants to advertise his ignorance all the time, you don’t have to do anything, just let him talk.” “We saw what a great inspiration Parker is, unbelievable, fantastic attitude to come back from a horrible injury, to get back at the game is just an inspiration to every player, for every person who has this kind of injury,” Ramovic said. Galaxy give Rulani 24 hours to respond or legal action Sundowns are yet to respond to TS Galaxy’s post but they have 24 hours to do so. The ‘beef’ between Mokwena and Ramovic began last year when Galaxy eliminated Sundowns from the Carling Knockout Cup. Monday was the first time the two coaches faced each other since that dramatic cup clash. The two coaches have been going at each other for the past weeks before Monday’s match. Despite last year’s drama, both Mokwena and Zungu reached out to Parker. The striker has since returned to the field of play.

Man United make approach for former Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui Man United News And Transfer News
Man United make approach for former Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui Man United News And Transfer News
1 Monday’s pages were filled with reports of Manchester United preparing for a huge squad overhaul, with INEOS understood to be open to selling a number of players to improve the club’s financial position this summer. Such a stance naturally puts question marks on the long-term future of many underperforming players at Man United.  However, United players are not the only ones facing an uncertain future heading into the summer transfer window. Erik ten Hag’s position at the helm is also under threat. The Dutch coach has simply failed to implement a coherent style of play. If anything, his side appear more disjointed this season than they did during his early days at Old Trafford. Accordingly, it will not surprise many if he is shown the exit door alongside some high-earning United stars. Amid this, a number of managers have been linked with the possibility of replacing Ten Hag as United’s manager. Now, Italian media have thrown Julen Lopetegui’s name into the mix. The former Real Madrid manager, who most recently managed Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been in talks with AC Milan to succeed Stefano Pioli, as per Corriere della Sera (via Sport Witness). The same newspaper adds that while Milan remains an option for Lopetegui, United are also keeping an eye on the situation. It is understood the Premier League giants have been in touch with the Europa League-winning manager. As of this moment, their approach has been labelled as ‘tentative’ and it is West Ham who appear to be leading the race, having already made an offer to him. On the other hand, with INEOS yet to publicly back Ten Hag, the 54-year-old is also starting to attract interest from elsewhere. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Ajax are keen on reuniting with their former manager, who is viewed as their number one choice for the vacant position. The Amsterdam-based outfit are willing to wait for Ten Hag until the end of this month, as they intend to make an official appointment by June 1st. Graham Potter is another name on their radar. Interestingly, the former Chelsea boss has also been linked with United. This summer’s managerial merry-go-round is shaping up nicely. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Video: Huge Man United injury boost as Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford return to training Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have been dealt a major personnel boost as Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez returned to training today. Earlier this month, United confirmed that both Martinez and Victor Lindelof would be ruled out for a month after the pair sustained injuries during the club’s 1-1 draw against Brentford on 30th March. On that occasion, Martinez – who had just returned from another long-term physical setback that had ruled him out of action for four months – was thrust into the action at the Gtech Community Stadium as a substitute. United explained that the World Cup winner picked up a calf strain in a training session that took place in the aftermath of the disappointing draw vs. the Bees. Martinez has been unable to nail down a consistent run of matches due to multiple issues. So far this term, the Argentine has made just 11 appearances across all competitions. To say he has been sorely missed would be an understatement. With Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala also out recovering from injuries, Ten Hag has been forced to deploy a centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Casemiro in recent matches. According to Sky Sports, Martinez is now back in team training at Carrington as he steps up his fitness with an eye on playing a part in United’s next game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. He was not the only one welcome sight at the Red Devils’ training complex. Rashford also took part in the sessions. Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez are back in training with Manchester United pic.twitter.com/VKWAzhGN3U — Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) April 30, 2024 Rashford has not played for United since their humiliating FA Cup quarter-final win on penalties over Championship outfit Coventry City. In that match, the England international was poor and after the final whistle, it emerged that he left Wembley while limping. With him unavailable to Ten Hag for selection, Garnacho has started on the left flank in subsequent clashes vs. Sheffield United and Burnley. No doubt Rashford will be hoping to finish what has been a disappointing season for him on a more positive note. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news?
