West Ham 2-2 Liverpool Player Ratings Liverpool FC
Midweek derby defeat, so a big weekend reaction, right? Apparently that’s wrong, as Liverpool went on to draw 2-2 to a struggling West Ham. Season over. West Ham 2-2 Liverpool Premier League (35), London Stadium April 27, 2024 Goals: Bowen 43′, Antonio 77′; Robertson 48′, Areola OG 65′ Alisson – 6 (out of 10) One routine save down to his right, one fine reaction stop after a deflected shot went same side. Beaten a minute later though by a header which he got fingertips to – left exposed by his defence once again. Largely an onlooker for much of the second 45 but inexplicably dropped one routine catch, was forced into a brilliant save seconds later and the ball was in the net with the next chance. Weird. Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5 Extremely fortunate to be in the team and didn’t exactly produce a stirring performance in response to the garbage he served up in the derby. Sloppy passing throughout the first half gave him the worst completion rate of any player on the pitch making 20 or more. Kudus beat him for fun, set-pieces were off-target. A couple of shots and really clever, inventive passes across range in the second half should not mask how poor his effort and concentration levels were again at times earlier on. Must get back to his best across the full match and soon. Jarell Quansah – 7 A decent enough showing with some aerial wins, a couple of good covering moments behind his fellow defenders and one moment where he overpowered Paqueta on the run. Generally dealt well with Antonio’s speed and strength but totally lost him on one cross which the forward headed in. Virgil van Dijk – 7 Fortunate to escape a booking for a trip on a West Ham counter and almost deflected a shot in before the break. Commented the squad weren’t hungry enough for the title after the midweek defeat but his own appetite doesn’t seem high either right now. Like the rest, raised it after the restart and a few good challenges and strides forward were positive. Andy Robertson – 7 Scored with an absolutely ferocious missile of a laser-guided thundercracker! Or, put another way, scuff-volleyed in his first goal since September with just about our worst shot since then! Plenty of running, overlapping and the usual bursts into the box, though the crossing and passing wasn’t always up to scratch. Wataru Endo – 4 Back to the raffle-competition-winner version of Endo recently. Slow and ponderous on the ball, nothing progressive in his game, overrun, bypassed. Slightly better after the break but he’s in a poor moment after his great form of a couple of months ago. Alexis Mac Allister – 7 – Man of the Match Took a heavy tackle from Paqueta early on but thankfully was unscathed. Some excellent one-touch play and looked to enjoy the freedom he had as the most attacking central player. Should have scored with a header just after 2-1 but was basically the most consistent player in green and white throughout the game. Work rate, some defensive proficiency, always forward-looking with his passing. Made a big block in stoppage time to prevent us almost certainly losing. Ryan Gravenberch – 6 Two hammer shots which lacked accuracy but too often was again missing the power in his actual man-to-man play, losing challenges, being run past and battled off possession. Definitely raised his own tempo and effort levels after the break, which made him just about acceptable for a spell. Harvey Elliott – 5 Handed the start ahead of Salah on the right but made next to no impact. A few decent runs off the ball weren’t utilised and his one chance was a right-footed strike on the angle into the side netting. Bit of a passenger, in truth, including when he went into midfield later. Struck the bar late on with a great hit. Cody Gakpo – 5 Disappointing in both boxes. Fouled for a penalty only for the move to be offside, but aside from that offered very little in the buildup, didn’t trouble Areola in goal and was supposed to be marking that noted 6’8″ giant Jarrod Bowen on a set-piece. Guess who won the header to score. Anyway, Gakpo got to celebrate when ‘his’ shot ended up in the net…after deflecting three different ways off three different West Ham payers. Luis Diaz – 7 Once again the only attacking player to offer any tempo, direct running, ability on the ball or apparent knowledge of where the goal was. Made a chance or two, smacked the woodwork again with a first-half shot and sent another just off-target. Slightly quieter after the break but maybe that’s in comparison to others actually starting to run? Saw a one-on-one saved from a tough angle, then another good strike pawed away from the top corner. Really interesting he was the forward subbed off, having been the best performer of the trio and the one most likely to score (on purpose).   Substitutes Joe Gomez (on for Alexander-Arnold, 78′) – 6 – Generic flank-running and passing. Mohamed Salah (on for Diaz, 78′) – 6 – Fuming with the manager as he came onto the pitch. Almost set up Nunez with a decent cross and dribbled the length of the pitch once. Darwin Nunez (on for Endo, 78′) – 6 – A couple of good runs off the ball but nothing ran his way in the area. Dominik Szoboszlai (on for Quansah, 90′) – N/A – Pointless introduction in stoppage time. Made a foul. Subs not used: Kelleher, Tsimikas, Konate, Jones, Bajcetic   Jurgen Klopp – 4 Looks like it’s all about getting to the end of the campaign now rather than rallying the troops, unfortunately. Very low-key on the sidelines despite another shocking first-half performance, no real reaction to lift the tempo of the game and despite another big bunch of changes to the lineup, didn’t necessarily take out one or two who certainly didn’t warrant staying in the side. No subs at half-time was a surprise but perhaps Klopp was going for the ‘you’ve got 10 minutes to get things right’ approach. It was better, no doubt, but not excellent. And still little additional input, reaction or changes thereafter. No subs until inside the final quarter of an hour was perhaps as much about making a point as making a difference to the performance, but after 2-1 the match drifted, he waited too long to make changes as West Ham started to push on and sure enough, the equaliser came before the subs. We didn’t even get an irrelevant Tsimikas cameo this time either. Perhaps most of all, what was said between him and Salah before he came on? That’s just one of many answers needed from this game.

Fans baffled as TNT Sports bemoan flat West Ham vs. Liverpool atmosphere Liverpool FC
Fans baffled as TNT Sports bemoan flat West Ham vs. Liverpool atmosphere Liverpool FC
Throughout the first half of West Ham vs. Liverpool, TNT commentators Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist criticised the “flat” atmosphere for a 12.30pm kickoff. With both sides suffering major setbacks in their previous games – West Ham losing 5-2 to Crystal Palace and Liverpool beaten 2-0 by Everton – a reaction was expected. But it was a slow start in east London, with few real opportunities until Luis Diaz struck the post, which was soon followed by Jarrod Bowen’s opener. In the gantry were the TNT Sports duo of Fletcher and McCoist, who are arguably two of the best commentators on rotation in the UK. Much of their focus in the first half, though, was on the lack of atmosphere in the London Stadium, with McCoist confused at why it felt so “flat.” Given it was a 12.30pm kickoff and both sides – albeit with slim hopes – were left with their major objectives out of reach beforehand, perhaps there should have been little surprise. Liverpool supporters pointed this out on social media – and were joined by rival fans watching on, too. Fans were baffled that they couldn’t work it out… TNT commentary baffled that two teams whose seasons are effectively over, being made to play in the early 12:30 Saturday slot, aren’t putting on some amazing spectacle. — barry (@BackseatsmanLFC) April 27, 2024 TNT commentators talking about how flat the atmosphere is at a 12.30 kick off ? wtf do you expect!? #WHULIV — Karam (@KaramK07) April 27, 2024 TNT “it’s so flat” without the irony of insisting on 12:30 kickoffs. — Pink Echo (@ThePinkEcho) April 27, 2024 Newsflash. 12:30pm Kick off game is “flat”. I’m sure the pay cheques for the commentators and TNT advertising isn’t, flat.. — Kenny ?? (@redkenneth77) April 27, 2024 Commentators talking about why the game is so flat. It’s 12:30 kick off – have we ever had a good 12:30 kick off? Like ever? — Albs (@albimakingart) April 27, 2024 Every 12:30 kick off, the TV commentators complain the atmosphere is flat and they never seem to make the connection. #lfc — Alex McGuinness (@alexmcguinness) April 27, 2024 TNT Sports Commentators going on about how flat the game and crowd are with West ham v Liverpool.Maybe if they stop putting matches on at half 12 — johnny kelly (@johnny7kelly) April 27, 2024 TNT wondering why the stadium and the players are flat. It’s because it’s a 12.30 KO !! Just as crap for the fans as the players. No more !!! — Tom Griffin (@tomgriffinaim) April 27, 2024 It wasn’t just Liverpool fans, either… West Ham v Liverpool: Without any sense of self-awareness or understanding of the impact of their channel’s constant 12.30 kick offs on loyal supporters, Darren Fletcher & Ally McCoist say “I can’t believe the lack of atmosphere in here today.” ? Mmm wonder why it is ? — 1894 (@WeAre1894) April 27, 2024 The commentators on TNT Sport moaning non stop about the atmosphere at West Ham. Let me explain it for you. Fans don’t want 12-30 kick offs!! Not rocket science!! — Woody (@stumpyspurs) April 27, 2024 TNT commentary team is going on about how subdued the atmosphere is. Yeah, it’s you lot, putting games on at a stupid time. You deserve to have to transmit this s**t @tntsports #TNT #WHULIV #stoptheearlykickoffs — Dave Ross (@DaveRos63098369) April 27, 2024 In the post-match coverage of the Merseyside derby, Wayne Rooney criticised Virgil van Dijk for bringing up the fact Liverpool had another 12.30pm kickoff to prepare for. “Just get on with it,” were Rooney’s words, and to an extent the former Everton striker was on the money. But the point stands that, if broadcasters continue to schedule early kickoffs for teams in such a congested calendar, the fans aren’t always going to be immediately fired up. It doesn’t just impact the players, it impacts those travelling for hours to watch them – and that, in turn, impacts the spectacle TNT and the rest depend on.

West Ham 2-2 Liverpool: More points dropped season over Liverpool FC
Liverpool showed fight with a rotated side but went on to drop more points in the Premier League run-in, drawing 2-2 with West Ham after leading. West Ham 2-2 Liverpool Premier League (35), London Stadium April 27, 2024 Goals Bowen 43′ Robertson 48′ (assist – Diaz) Soucek OG 65′ (assist – Gakpo) Antonio 77′ There was a strange, muted atmosphere early on in east London – more like a rugby crowd – which perhaps summed up the feeling among both sets of supporters. It reflected in the performances, as though Liverpool appeared in control, there was little in the way of incision, bar the dribbling of Ryan Gravenberch. A tight offside call saved Angelo Ogbonna from giving a penalty away as the half-hour mark neared, first for bringing down Cody Gakpo, then for a seemingly intentional handball from Luis Diaz‘s follow-up shot. Diaz was, unsurprisingly, the spark in Liverpool’s attack, with the Colombian shifting into space and firing the closest effort of the half against the foot of the post. Even in a dull half, the Reds were still able to concede first, with Jarrod Bowen able to evade Virgil van Dijk for a free header from a corner. HT: West Ham 1-0 Liverpool Jurgen Klopp will have demanded a reaction at the break, and Liverpool were back level within three minutes of the restart – from the most unlikely of goalscorers as Andy Robertson‘s improvised effort squeezed in. It was a sea change after that, with the Reds all over West Ham and producing a number of changes both in the box and from range. The second goal was a moment of comedy, with Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s corner landing to Gakpo, who teed up his shot, missed the target, but saw the ball go in via Ogbonna, Alphonse Areola and Tomas Soucek. Areola kept out Diaz twice and Alexis Mac Allister once with a close-range header as Liverpool pushed for a third, but it was West Ham who drew level via Michail Antonio’s header. On came Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian almost laying on a tap-in for the No. 9 only to be thwarted by a stunning block from Vladimir Coufal. Liverpool continued to push for a winner, but Harvey Elliott‘s shot striking the bar was the closest they got as two more points were dropped. TIA Man of the Match: Andy Robertson Referee: Anthony Taylor West Ham: Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Soucek (Ward-Prowse 74′), Alvarez; Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio Subs not used: Fabianski, Casey, Johnson, Cresswell, Phillips, Ings, Mubama Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold (Gomez 79′), Quansah (Szoboszlai 90+1′), Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo (Salah 79′), Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Elliott, Diaz (Nunez 79′) Subs not used: Kelleher, Konate, Tsimikas, Bajcetic, Jones Next match: Tottenham (H) – Premier League – Sunday, May 5, 4.30pm (BST)

Confirmed Man United XI vs Burnley: Marcus Rashford still out Man United News And Transfer News
1 Erik ten Hag has made one change to the Manchester United XI to face Burnley today to the one that beat Sheffield United in midweek. Andre Onana is in goal. The back four, once again, are Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are all still out injured, although Ten Hag has said Shaw, Martinez and forward Anthony Martial are back training on the grass and should rejoin team training this week. Kobbie Mainoo and Scott McTominay/Christian Eriksen are the deep midfielders, with Bruno Fernandes ahead of them. Mason Mount returns from injury and is on the bench. Alejandro Garnacho and Antony are the wingers, with Marcus Rashford still injured. Amad Diallo once again has to make do with a spot on the bench despite several superb cameos. Rasmus Hojlund is the lone striker and leads the line again in Martial’s continued absence. More to follow … Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Manchester United eyeing highly-rated West Ham prodigy Daniel Rigge Man United News And Transfer News
1 Unlike Manchester United’s senior team, this season has been a roaring success for the all the age-group teams. The United U18s clinched a league and cup double for the first time while the U21s qualified for the play-offs on Friday. And the academy has been the rare shining light for Erik ten Hag’s team as well with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho already proving they are not only the future but the present. With mounting injuries to contend with, the Dutchman has opted to hand debuts to academy stars like Dan Gore, Omari Forson, Willy Kambwala and most recently Ethan Wheatley. Youth showing the way at United More first team chances are in the pipeline with the likes of Harry Amass, Habeeb Ogunneye and Shea Lacey all champing at the bit. With new co-owners INEOS now on board, the Red Devils are expected to focus heavily on youth recruitment. And as per ESPN, West Ham United’s highly-rated attacking midfielder Daniel Rigge is in the crosshairs of the club. However, agreeing a deal will not be straightforward for the former Manchester City youth product with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both interested. The 18-year-old has 11 goals and six assists for the Hammers’ U18 team, with West Ham second in the U18 Premier League South table. The England U16 international has also made five appearances for the U21 side, registering a goal, while also making a couple of appearances in the FA Youth Cup. Youth recruitment “Tottenham and Arsenal are battling to sign West Ham teenager Daniel Rigge, sources have told ESPN. “The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract in October — and his existing deal will still have two years left to run this summer — but the attacking midfielder has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs. “Spurs are said to be leading the race for his signature but Arsenal and Manchester United are among the sides tracking Rigge, who has impressed as West Ham sit second in the Premier League under-18s table, two points behind leaders Chelsea.” Rigge can play all across the frontline and on the wings and he could prove to be an astute purchase moving forward. It is good to hear Sir Jim Ratcliffe mentioning the importance of buying young instead of the club’s recent plan of signing only mercenaries. INEOS should definitely focus on youth recruitment moving forward, an aspect that was in ruins under the Glazers a few years ago. There have already been reports of United returning to the South American market to unearth the next big superstar. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Sundowns are victims of their own success
Sundowns are victims of their own success
To any other club in South Africa, this would be a ridiculously good season. Mamelodi Sundowns are still on target this season to complete a domestic league and cup double, to go with the inaugural Caf African Football League trophy that they have sitting in the cabinet back in Choorklop. To any other club in South Africa, this would be a ridiculously good season, and one that no one in their right mind could look critically on. And yet …. Friday night’s Caf Champions League semifinal exit at the hands of Esperance will no doubt have critics baiting a side that make no secret of their chase for a second star. Sundowns will probably also have plenty of regrets that they could not add this season to their one Champions League title up to now. Masandawana had their fair share of chances at Loftus Stadium, before and after the epic storm that delayed the match by over an hour. But once they fell behind, there was a sense of the inevitable, with the three goals required just too much of a deficit. The simple fact is that Sundowns have fallen off their usual standards in the last few weeks, if you look at their performances. The quarterfinal win against Yanga was unconvincing and could easily have gone the other way. There was a near-shock in the Nedbank Cup against Tuks. Even in the DStv Premiership, Sundowns remain unbeaten but have not been at their scintillating best. But why would they be? The core of Sundowns’ squad have played so much football it is a wonder they are still on their feet. The African Football League added more games into an already packed club schedule, while Sundowns’ players also made up most of the Bafana Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. It would be a miracle, frankly, if Sundowns were still firing on all cylinders, even with the strength of their squad. Rulani Mokwena’s side have, if anything, paid the price for being so good. They may have fallen again at the semifinal hurdle in the Champions League. But few would bet against them being there again next season, flying the South African flag high. So for Sundowns, we should really have nothing but praise. They are simply victims of their own success. And Sundowns’ players and coach, too, should not be too downhearted. They will simply go again, and if they keep knocking on the door, one day they will break it down.

Can Kaizer Chiefs win all of their remaining games?
Kaizer Chiefs are currently dwindling down in 10th place on the DStv Premiership log after a forgettable run of results, the latest of which came in the form of a shocking loss to Richards Bay. With just one win from their last 10 games, and three successive losses in the league, Chiefs next face a DStv Premiership encounter with SuperSport United at the new Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane on Saturday (kick off 17:30). Can Kaizer Chiefs finally get back to winning ways? Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has said the team is fully determined to make a strong finish to the season. “We all know it and we are looking forward to this game as an opportunity to put things right. We are working very hard to try to turn our season around, and this game is the first chance for us to do it,” the Chiefs star commented, as quoted by iDiski Times. “Despite our recent form falling below the standards we set for ourselves, it is still our intention to win all of our remaining games in order to finish as high as possible. “Obviously, Top 8 is the minimum requirement and with the group of players we have, I believe we are capable of winning every game until the end of the season. “Let me be clear, as Kaizer Chiefs we should always be competing for first place in any competition but we have been through a tough patch and we are determined to finish as well as we can.” Meanwhile, stand-in coach Cavin Johnson sought to present a positive outlook ahead of Saturday’s clash. “It has been a positive week and as the boys came off the training pitch just now, they looked very good,” he told the club’s official website. “They have regrouped and look to be a happy crop of players, but more importantly, very very determined. We will go out and do the best we can. We know we have to turn the corner sometime and we want to do it in this game. “We are playing against a good team in SuperSport United. We have done our homework on them. We know that their coach, Gavin Hunt can set his team up in different ways, but we have worked on ways to counter that, and also to exploit any vulnerability they may show.” Another defeat could lead to Johnson’s early departure Over the last week there were growing rumours that Kaizer Chiefs could consider removing Cavin Johnson from the top job sooner rather than later. Although there are only a few games left this season, Chiefs legend Fani Madida is one of those who has suggested that former head coach Arthur Zwane should just be brought back to finish the season. Madida was appearing on the Arena Sports Show, and you can see his interview below:

Man United legend Dwight Yorke argues Erik ten Hag should just let Aaron Wan-Bissaka defend Man United News And Transfer News
2 Manchester United treble hero, Dwight Yorke, has claimed that Erik ten Hag should just let current defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka get on with his game. The Englishman has lost his place to Diogo Dalot as the first choice right back in the team but the huge amount of injuries United have suffered in this campaign has still given him the chance to play plenty of minutes. However, he has never really convinced fans with his attacking display in spite of his outstanding tackling abilities. Dalot is widely considered the more rounded right back of the two and hence the manager’s preference for the Portuguese. Moreover, since the Dutchman has been in the job, there have been numerous rumours about the Mancunian side wanting to upgrade their right back department. Jeremie Frimpong has often been the player most linked to a move to Manchester owing to his outstanding attacking credentials. However, according to Dwight Yorke, Ten Hag does not need a replacement and should just let Wan-Bissaka play his current game. The Trinidad and Tobago international already gave his thoughts on a range of issues in an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person on Marcus Rashford’s future, Ten Hag’s job security and which striker he would like United to bring in during the summer window. Speaking to Crypto Casino LTD (via The Sun) Yorke has now claimed, “If Jeremie Frimpong is a bit fragile defensively, then he’ll be bought for a certain system by the manager. “Nowadays, fullbacks play much higher up the pitch and can play in all types of systems, but I don’t know how Erik ten Hag wants to play. “Man United already have a good right back in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but you can say he’s the opposite of Frimpong, great defensively but not that great going forward.” Therefore, Yorke argued that the United coach should find a way to play to his strengths and proceeded to give the former Ajax coach some tactical advice. “When we attack, we should be letting Wan Bissaka sit back and offer more defensive protection, handling the one v one on the wing. But instead, he’s told to bomb up the wing and try to take on a player, which he can’t do. “Erik ten Hag should take away Wan-Bissaka’s attacking duties and make him defend, then they can have some solidarity in the defence. “Instead, Wan-Bissaka, who doesn’t score or create, run around like a headless chicken in the opposition box, running in his teammates’ way. “It’s not rocket science, watching this unfold is crazy. The one thing you need in the defence is to be able to defend one v one. Just let him f—ing defend.” Many United fans have accepted, like Yorke, Wan-Bissaka will never be able to make any meaningful improvement in his on-the-ball ability. However, if used properly, he can be a potent weapon against a skilful winger like he was against Allan Saint-Maximin in the Carabao cup final last season, when he successfully nullified the Frenchman. Jurgen Klopp has made another five changes for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham in the Premier League, coming three days after the chastening loss at Everton. The Reds will look to put a 2-0 loss in Klopp’s final Merseyside derby behind them as they travel to the London Stadium on Saturday. After an awful performance at Goodison Park, the manager has dropped a number of key players. Alisson has kept his place, with Jarell Quansah replacing Ibrahima Konate in the back four alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson. Restored to midfield are Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, with only Alexis Mac Allister retained from the derby. Harvey Elliott is expected to start on the right wing, with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo also named in attack. That means the likes of Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are all on the bench. Aoife Mannion lavishes praise on full throttle Mary Earps Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United women’s Irish centre back, Aoife Mannion, has lavished praise on goalkeeper Mary Earps. The United shot-stopper has had a meteoric rise over the last few seasons with her standing across world football skyrocketing. Earps was a crucial part of England’s Euros win in 2022 and was also magnificent in her national team’s run to the final of the World Cup, saving a penalty in the final. She has also been crowned the best keeper in world football for two consecutive years and won the BBC sports personality of the year award. The 31 year old has carried her fine form into club football, as she put in an outstanding performance for the Red Devils when she faced a barrage of shots in the club’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the recent FA Cup semi-final. Speaking to talkSport, her teammate Mannion has claimed, “What Mary is like on the pitch is exactly what she’s like in training.” The defender was also full of praise for the attitude she brings to matchdays. “She’s full throttle, incredibly authentic and passionate as a character and very inspiring to be around on the pitch.” The defender once again praised Earps’ acts of heroism on the pitch and spoke of one particular save she made in the vital semi-final victory over Chelsea a couple of weeks ago. “I was saying to her in the gym actually that there was one particular save that she made [vs Chelsea] where it almost looked like she had to hyper extend or dislocate her shoulder to stop the ball from going in the net and I’m surprised there’s not been any videos or memes [because] basically when she did that, I just put my hands to my face and gasped. “For that moment, I was like a fan watching it and it’s very rare in football in a game as a player where you have a sense of something that’s so incredible.” Referencing how crucial Earps is for the team she commented, “She’s an incredible goalkeeper and sometimes, little moments like that in games can remind everyone just how lucky we are to have her and how lucky I am personally to play alongside her.” “Some of those saves were just enormous and can’t be understated how incredible and skilful they are. I’m really pleased she was in the net for us because it could have been a very different outcome if she wasn’t.” United’s women aim to finish the season strongly as they take on Leicester City on Sunday and still have two mouth-watering fixtures against Liverpool and Chelsea in the Women’s Super League. However, Earps will be no doubt be champing at the bit to help United win their first piece of silverware when they take on Tottenham in the FA Cup final on the 12th of May. There is little doubt that the England international will once again be of vital importance if United go on to win the trophy. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? Time to trust the kids? Predicted Kaizer Chiefs XI vs SuperSport!
Time to trust the kids? Predicted Kaizer Chiefs XI vs SuperSport!
Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on SuperSport United in a must-win home match at the Peter Mokhaba Stadium.  Last time out, Chiefs had an afternoon to forget in Durban, succumbing to a 1-0 loss to Richards Bay FC. Chiefs have  failed to find the back of the net in their last three games with nothing going for them.  It looked like that wouldn’t be the case against Richards Bay, however, as Chiefs started brightly. They had two big chances through attackers Mduduzi Shabalala and Christian Saile. On both occasions, however, they both found the keeper instead of the net, with their curling efforts. When it mattered the most, it would be the hosts who scored the decisive goal through Simphiwe Mcineka. For Richards Bay, it was a crucial three points, as they continue their struggle to stay in the topflight. For Chiefs, it was a very damage run which saw a team which was challenging for a CAF spot, now outside of the top eight positions in the league. Speaking to the KZN media after the game, Amakhosi interim coach Cavin Johnson could not hide his frustration. That loss to Richards Bay means that Chiefs are yet to secure mathematical safety from relegation. They still need just one more point to secure their topflight status, however. Even that is a crazy statement to make, for a team that was eyeing CAF Champions League football at the turn of the year. Getting one point might seem like an easy task, but having failed to win in their last three, there can be no guarantees.  Chiefs take on SuperSport The loss also means Chiefs have won just one game in their last 10 matches in all competitions. During that run, they have not been able to score in a total of seven matches. Johnson will be hoping to put that aside in their next game against SuperSport United. To help him do just that, he could have three key players back to select.  In recent weeks Johnson has been without midfield duo Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and stand in captain Yusuf Maart. Both were pictured in full training and could be available for Chiefs against SuperSport. Another player who could be available to face his former side is Thatayoane Ditlhokwe . The Botswana international has not played for the club in 2024 due to a serious shoulder injury.  But this should be a game for Johnson to trust the kids and give some a chance alongside experience. Here is our predicted Chiefs starting line up for the game against SuperSport:  Time to trust Zwane and Vilakazi from the start? Bruce Bvuma, Edmilson Dove, Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Dillan Solomons, Edson Castillo, Samkelo Zwane, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Pule Mmodi, Mfundo Vilakazi, Ashley du Preez Let us know what you think below.

Bruno Fernandes determination and on-field record truly places him in a class of his own Man United News And Transfer News
Bruno Fernandes determination and on-field record truly places him in a class of his own Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United had to rally back from being a goal down on two separate occasions against Premier League bottom club Sheffield United on Wednesday. The Red Devils eventually emerged 4-2 victors with captain Bruno Fernandes leading from the front as the hosts played a more possession-based approach instead of Erik ten Hag’s usual chaos ball. The Portuguese has once again been a revelation, despite a difficult campaign for the club with the 29-year-old currently the top-scorer with 15 goals and has the most assists with 11. His goal against the Blades meant he has now scored in five successive matches for the first time since joining the club while he has also created 99 chances in the Premier League this season, the most among all players. Bruno, the magician Not only in England, but Fernandes also tops the chances created chart all across Europe. Yet pundits and experts claim Martin Odegaard and Kevin de Bruyne are better than the Portuguese! He remains underrated even among the fanbase. The club captain inspires everyone around him not only in terms of on-field achievements but also in the manner he conducts himself off the pitch. Staying away from the spotlight, willing to help everyone as seen from his delightful social media interactions with younger players, truly puts the Portugal international apart. His availability record remains stellar with the player never missing a game for the Red Devils through injury. This season, the Dutch manager has revealed many times during press conferences that Fernandes is an injury doubt. But the 29-year-old has always pulled through. The Sheffield game was the most recent example. The attacking midfielder had broken his hand during the nerve-wracking FA Cup semi-final win against Coventry City. Ten Hag said he was a huge doubt but the player insisted on starting against Chris Wilder’s team according to The Times and he ended up with two goals and an assist. What a player! “Bruno Fernandes’ match-winning performance against Sheffield United appears even more remarkable given that he was playing with a broken hand. “Erik ten Hag revealed on Tuesday that Fernandes was a doubt for the match at Old Trafford after injuring his hand in a fall during the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City three days before. “Fernandes played the entirety of the fixture, however, and was one of the star performers in the 4-2 home win, scoring twice and setting up the final goal, which was scored by Rasmus Hojlund. “It is understood that Fernandes broke his right hand during the match against Coventry but still insisted on playing against Sheffield United.” Remarkable from the skipper and the club are truly lucky to have signed such a superstar. He is the best post-Sir Alex Ferguson signing by a country mile. Hopefully, he can carry on in the same vein and ensure a decent end to a disappointing campaign and ensure further silverware in the form of the FA Cup come May. Rulani Mokwena uncertain about his future at Sundowns?
Rulani Mokwena uncertain about his future at Sundowns?
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has stated that his future at the club is in his bosses’ hands. This statement was made after the club was eliminated from the CAF Champions League semi-final by Esperance on Friday evening. Mokwena’s team was defeated 1-0 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium and ultimately lost 2-0 on aggregate. The Brazilians were hoping to secure their first Champions League final in eight years, but their mission became difficult when they lost 1-0 in Tunisia last weekend. Although many expected the home team to win the second leg in front of the Loftus crowd, the Esperance defence held on and the Sundowns failed to score a single goal, resulting in the loss of the tie. Mokwena, who has been in charge for four years, has failed to reach the final of the competition. He remains uncertain about his future at Sundowns. “I don’t run the football club, do I? I’m here because of the results and if they are not good enough I won’t be here,” said Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena as per Citizen. “I want to be here, I love this club, I love the supporters of this club. I love this incredible group of players, I want to be here. “But as you rightfully say, it’s a results-oriented business.” Rulani Mokwena has won the league three times in a row with Sundowns and is likely to win his fourth. His leadership has often been questioned especially in Champions League games. He has failed to get past the semi-finals once again questioning his tactics in big games. Rulani Mokwena not sure what his future hold at Sundowns “But as I said, it’s part of the process, and I’m here to serve like many of us in the technical team. We do everything that we can to try to help the club,” he added. “But at the end, for sure, there needs to be a leader who is in front in bad moments especially. And he can take the back seat in the good moments,” Mokwena said. Sundowns dumped out of the CAF Champions League “But in bad moments, I’ve got to be in front, and I’ve to take the responsibility and shoulder the blame for the Champions League exit.” Rulani Mokwena is contracted with Sundowns until 2028 but might not stay at the club next season. Failure to win the Nedbank Cup might see the Downs board deciding to give him a mandate. The Brazilians have had it easy in the league with it is the Champions League they want which Mokwena is failing to deliver. The Brazilians are in action on Monday against TS Galaxy as they look to wrap up the league. Rulani Mokwena can win his fourth league title for Sundowns on Thursday against Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates change stance on star? Offer him a bumper new deal!
Pirates change stance on star? Offer him a bumper new deal!
Orlando Pirates were recently reported to be willing to sell one of their key players in the next window. Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has been in red-hot form since returning to the club in the January transfer window.  That form has seen some top clubs both locally and abroad show a keen interest in the services of Mabasa. In the DStv Premiership, champions Mamelodi Sundowns are touted as long-term admirers of the player. Abroad, it has been revealed that Romanian giants FCSB are interested in signing the player as well. This would see him become teammates with ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana who is enjoying the form of his life. Throughout this period, it has been thought that Pirates are also willing to cash in on the striker while he is still hot! But now, according to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates are looking to offer Mabasa a massive new deal! This in the hope that it will help keep away the advances of the likes of Sundowns and FCSB and see him stay at the club. It is further suggested that his new terms could make him one the highest paid players in the local league.  Pirates change Mabasa stance? “With the new and improved contract I don’t think he (Mabasa) can think of leaving the club (Pirates). He will be one of the highest earning players in the country. It will not even be necessary for him to move to another club. After all, the technical team as well as the management are happy with him so from my point of view the new improved deal is as good as done,” said a source to the same publication.  What next for Sundowns and FCSB? It now remains to be seen what the likes of FCSB and Sundowns do next after the decision Pirates made. Will they still pursue the services of Mabasa?

Predicted Man United XI vs Burnley: Amad Diallo to get rare start Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United will barely have any new reinforcements to alleviate their injury-riddled squad as only Mason Mount is likely to be fit in time to make the bench against Burnley. Despite the lack of available players and moments of shakiness, United were able to eventually find a way to defeat Sheffield United on Wednesday night as Bruno Fernandes inspired them to a 4-2 win. The game is still expected to come too early for Marcus Rashford who has once again hit the headlines for speaking out on the perceived abuse he has suffered this campaign. Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are all still sidelined. However, there has been some good news on that front as Erik ten Hag announced in his pre-match press conference that Martinez, Shaw and Martial have started outdoor training and are scheduled to resume team training next week. He said, “I think we will see Shaw, Martinez and Martial all in the season. They progress well.” With so many injuries still at the club, it is fully expected that there will be quite a few youth players on the bench, including Ethan Wheatley who made history midweek by becoming the 250th academy graduate to make his debut for the Old Trafford side. Taking all this into account, we believe that Andre Onana will obviously take up his usual position between the sticks. The Red Devils have little choice but to field Harry Maguire and Casemiro as the centre back pairing. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot are the only fit senior full backs so the only real question is who will start on which flank. Wan-Bissaka will most likely take up his role on the right with Dalot switching to the left due to his greater ability to adapt to his his weaker side. One of the shining lights of the season, Kobbie Mainoo will keep his regular place while McTominay’s likely unavailability will allow Christian Eriksen to enjoy a rare consecutive starts. Despite Mount’s return, it is highly improbable he would be thrown straight back into the starting line up, so we can expect Wednesday’s hero, Bruno Fernandes to start as the attacking midfielder. The striker is also clear as Rasmus Hojlund will aim to build on his return to goalscoring form and Alejandro Garnacho will surely start once more on the left, with Rashford being sidelined. The only doubt is whether Ten Hag will persist with Antony, who once more was poor against Sheffield United. Ten Hag has also spoken out on giving Amad Diallo more chances and after impressing in a 35 minute cameo midweek, we predict that he will finally get his chance to start, for the first time since 2021. With possession-based football likely to be on show once again, the Ivorian could hold the key as his combination play could help United get past a deep block. Kaizer Chiefs offer two-year extension to key player!
Kaizer Chiefs offer two-year extension to key player!
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be ready to make some major changes to their playing staff next season. Even though there have been names linked with a move to Chiefs, the club is also set to release some. Players like Siyethemba Sithebe and Sifiso Hlanti have been mentioned, with their deals up soon. They have been joined by Happy Mashiane and Zitha Kwinika of late. One player that has been fighting those exit rumours at Chiefs is Njabulo Ngcobo. Now besides those names, the likes of Edmilson Dove, George Matlou and Keagan Dolly will see their contracts run out. One player who you would not think is in contention to leave Chiefs is midfielder Edson Castillo. Castillo was Chiefs’ standout performer during the first half of the season, adjusting well to the local league. The Venezuelan joined Chiefs from Monagas SC and hit the ground running for Chiefs. The 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the club’s midfield, both in defence and attack. His box-to-box nature has seen him make some big tackles, telling passes and even arrive late to score himself. Castillo has already bagged five goals in all competitions for the club so far.  His performances have caught more than just the eye of the South African football fraternity, with some continental rivals also rumoured to be interested in taking Castillo away from Chiefs. Earlier this year, this publication reported that Zamalek wanted the player. It was then established that Amakhosi wanted a whopping R40 million for him. Zamalek deal on hold? This publication recently revealed that Chiefs were willing to sell Castillo to Zamalek for R30 million now. But now, according to Soccer-Laduma, that opportunity might not come as the Egyptian giants face a possible transfer ban. Furthermore, it is claimed the club have offered the midfield star a two-year extension instead!  Chiefs offer Castillo new two-year deal? “It is a hard time for Castillo now. Things don’t seem good at all. Yes, Chiefs have tabled an extended stay until June 2027 for the player as part of keeping his value up,” said the source.  It remains to be seen if Chiefs will let Castillo go should they get a top offer for his services.

Esperance coach Miguel Cardoso ecstatic after Sundowns win
“It’s an important moment for me personally but there’s an expression that says there’s no good captain without the blood of the soldiers,” Cardoso said after the match. Esperance coach Miguel Cardoso has heaped praise on his players following the 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld in the semifinal of the Caf Champions League. ALSO READ: Mokwena unsure of Sundowns future after Champions League exit Esperance ran out 2-0 winners on aggregate over the Brazilians that just didn’t do enough to reach the final of the coveted continental club championship. The Tunisian giants will face Al-Ahly in the final and fight for the right to be crowned African champions with the first leg set to be played on May 12 in a North African derby. “Firstly, I want to say that I’m really happy. It’s an important moment for me personally but there’s an expression that says there’s no good captain without the blood of the soldiers,” Cardoso said after the match. “I’m happy because my players did a really good job. It’s not easy to play here. I have a lot of respect for our opponent because it’s not easy to play [against them]. I repeat that I have big respect for our opponents but I also have big respect for my team because no one wins here if they don’t have big respect for themselves. You have to understand each and every moment of the game and you have to suffer a lot and know how give your body to the bullets using the war expression. “But most important of all, you have to profit from the right moments and that is exactly what we did. There’s no winner in life without a little bit of chance and it’s not really difficult for me to recognise that we had our moment and took our chance but you don’t do that if you put in a big job behind it. I have my locker happy, my president happy, all the staff of the club happy and I’m sure that I also have a big part of Tunisia very happy which is very important for this club.” ALSO READ: Chiefs looking to bounce back to winning ways against SuperSport The four-time Champions League winners outsmarted Sundowns who failed to break down their stubborn defence over both legs. Kaizer Chiefs youngster reveals sad pain
Kaizer Chiefs youngster reveals sad pain
Kaizer Chiefs have one of the best young talents we’ve seen. Sadly, Amakhosi are in their worst era as a club. KAIZER CHIEFS STAR MDUDUZI SHABALALA REGRETS WRONG ERA The 19-year-old Shabalala is gifted as the likes of Thabo “Tsiki Tsiki” Mooki, Jabu “Pule” Mahlangu but the timing has not been good at all. The Soweto-born youngster is playing for a Kaizer Chiefs team that has not won a trophy in nearly 10 years. Additionally, the team is placed 10th position in the DStv Premiership with six games left. “As young players at Chiefs, I feel sorry for us because it is not easy; it’s tough,” said Shabalala said via FARPost. “Every one bad game, we are bad players,” the Kaizer Chiefs attacker added. Shabalala, who has recently been joined by another similar youngster Mfundo Vilakazi, revealed the duo’s relationship formation. “I started playing with Mfundo at kasi [township]; we were playing in the Siphiwe Tshabalala Foundation Tournament; that’s where I saw Mfundo play; we met there and connected, and our relationship started there,” the Kaizer Chiefs youngster added. “I always talk to him [Vilakazi] and tell him that ‘it may not be now, but one day, it [success at Chiefs] is going to happen, just keep on growing, keep on grinding because he is a good player’” “We know that we are good players; it is just that we are not fortunate enough, and things are not going our way, but one day, people will be talking a different story about us,” Shabalala concluded. AMAKHOSI TO RELEASE JASOND GONZALEZ In other Amakhosi news, Jasond Gonzalez is leaving Naturena. There was much excitement when the 24-year-old Colombian arrived at Amakhosi in August last year. The agreement was a season-long loan contract. With 12 scattered appearances, mostly as a substitute, zero goals and an option to offer a new contract, Kaizer Chiefs have decided they won’t renew Gonzalez’s deal. “This publication has learnt, that the physical striker will return to Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season,” iDiskiTimes Lorenz Kohler reported. “His loan deal, which had an option to make the deal permanent for $180,000 (R3.4 million) will not be pursued further after failing to score in his 12 games for Amakhosi,” the report added. Existing Kaizer Chiefs striker options: Ranga Chivaviro (31): Two goals and one assist in 19 games Wandile Duba (19): One goal in seven appearances. Note: Ashley du Preez and Christian Saile arrived as strikers but have been playing on the right or left flanks. Have Kaizer Chiefs made the right decision? Let us know in the comments section below.

Former Orlando Pirates coach to join our neighbours?
Former Orlando Pirates coach to join our neighbours?
Orlando Pirates supporters know the man very well. Kosta Papic is reportedly a target for the Zimbabwe national side. ORLANDO PIRATES LEGEND KOSTA PAPIC TO COACH ZIMBABWE The Zimbabwe Football Association is leaving it a bit late. Following Baltermar Brito’s departure in December 2023, the Warriors are without a coach ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in June. According to new reports, former Orlando Pirates coach Kosta Papic could be the next man. “FARPost sources have revealed that the Serbian is keen to accept the Warriors head coach job. Nothing has been completed yet, but it appears the 63-year-old is the ultimate target,” the outlet reported. THREE PLAYERS OUT OF ROYAL AM MATCH Orlando Pirates will play against Royal AM on Sunday without three reliable players: Sipho Chaine, Miguel Timm and Deon Hotto. Goalkeeper Chaine, Hotto at left fullback, and Timm in midfield have started the Sea Robbers’ last three matches, in which Orlando Pirates scored 12 goals and conceded three. Those were the 7-1 win over Golden Arrows, the 4-2 win over AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup, and the 1-0 win over the same AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership. Due to four accumulated yellow cards, coach Jose Riveiro has learned that Chaine, Hotto and Timm have been suspended for Sunday’s game in Pietermaritzburg against Royal AM. CONFIDENT JOSE RIVEIRO Speaking to the media about the situation, the Orlando Pirates coach expressed calm and confidence in his squad of available players. “I am not thinking too much about players who’ll be missing. We have 38 players in the squad,” Riveiro said via The Sowetan. “Eighty percent are available to play in a good momentum, so if we get yellow, we get yellow, and if it’s the fourth one, it’s the fourth one; we go to the next game because we have many players ready to go and everyone is going to be needed at this stage of the season. TSHEGOFATSO MABASA FLYING FOR ORLANDO PIRATES The Orlando Pirates coach also took a moment to salute the man of the moment: Tshegofatso Mabasa. “He [Mabasa] is one more piece in our structure, an important one right now. I am happy when the players, especially the forwards, are delivering goals. “I am happier when they take responsibility in the last metres. He’s constantly offering us all the options and possibilities for the players around him… for our No 10s. He helps us to be aggressive when we press because he’s our first defender of the team when we don’t have the ball,” the Orlando Pirates mentor added. “He’s also doing well because the ones who are behind him, the ones who are not playing recently, are training very well and they are putting pressure and want to play as well. In the end, only one [striker] can play but this is a team and everybody is working to make it possible,” Riveiro concluded. Orlando Pirates’ game against Royal AM will kick off on Sunday at 15:00 from the Harry Gwala Stadium. A win by two goals or more will lift the Buccaneers to second place above Stellenbosch FC.

Kaizer Chiefs set to miss out on R40 million transfer?
Zamalek interested i signing Castillo from Chiefs His performances have caught more than just the eye of the South African football fraternity, with some continental rivals also rumoured to be interested in taking Castillo away from Chiefs. Earlier this year, this publication reported that Zamalek wanted the player. It was then established that Amakhosi wanted a whopping R40 million for him. This publication recently revealed that Chiefs were willing to sell Castillo to Zamalek for R30 million now. But now, according to Soccer-Laduma, that opportunity might not come as the Egyptian giants face a possible transfer ban.  Transfer ban to rob Chiefs of R40 million “His move to Zamalek hangs in the balance now since they have been banned by FIFA. But you never know, they could pay their former talks player and then the pursuit to get Castillo is back on track. However, for now, all that hangs in the balance,” said the source to the publication.  It remains to be seen if Chiefs will let Castillo go should they get a top offer for his services.

Manchester United eyeing Kaoru Mitoma as potential Marcus Rashford replacement Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester United eyeing Kaoru Mitoma as potential Marcus Rashford replacement Man United News And Transfer News
1 Despite falling behind twice, Manchester United managed to get the better of Premier League bottom-dwellers Sheffield United 4-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Erik ten Hag dropped his flawed high-transition system for a more possession-based approach, possibly after receiving instructions from new technical director Jason Wilcox. Marcus Rashford dropped out after he sustained an injury with Coventry City all over the Red Devils last weekend and his future remains uncertain, especially if possession becomes the new mantra moving forward. The Mancunian relishes the chance to play off the shoulder of the last man and make those darting runs from left to inside and these have resulted in numerous goals with the 20-time English league champions playing on the counter. Rashford’s uncertain future But if new co-owners INEOS decide that the club need to move forward while employing a possession game, the England international’s threat could decrease. He is not at his best when trying to remain patient and pass the ball from one side to another and considering the dismal season he has had, and with the player unhappy with all the abuse he is receiving, a move away is reportedly being considered by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. United have been linked with a move for Kaoru Mitoma in the past and those links have resurfaced with Fichajes claiming that the Old Trafford side are among a trio of Premier League clubs chasing the Japanese. “The competition to secure Mitoma’s signature will surely be intense, as his talent and age profile makes him a coveted target in the transfer market. “Arsenal are currently ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United in the race for Mitoma who could be one of the biggest hits of the summer market.” Mitoma links resurface The Brighton star has three goals and five assists this term, not his or the club’s best season in recent memory while in the last campaign, he had notched 10 goals and eight assists with his dribbling earning a lot of praise. Also having played under Roberto De Zerbi, playing out from the back and holding on to possession when needed come more naturally to him. The current season has shown Mitoma might not be the answer, especially for United. Whether INEOS think Mitoma is the ideal replacement in case Rashford does end up leaving remains to be seen. So far, Paris Saint-Germain are the only big club linked with a move and even those rumours have died down. Hopefully, the Mancunian can regain his form in the closing stages of this season so as to go out all guns blazing once the next campaign rolls around. Chiefs looking to bounce back to winning ways against SuperSport
Bvuma is expecting a tough game against SuperSport who have not won a game in 2024. Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to end their winless run when they visit SuperSport United for a DStv Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday. ALSO READ: Sithebe keeps his mind off Chiefs contract negotiations Kickoff for the game is 5.30pm. Chiefs have lost four of their last five league matches and have registered one draw. Their winless run has seen them move down to position 10 on the league standings. Amakhosi goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma says they want to use the game against Matsatsantsa a Pitori to put things right. “We have been in a difficult situation as a team recently,” told the Chiefs media. “We all know it and we are looking forward to this game as an opportunity to put things right. We are working very hard to try to turn our season around, and this game is the first chance for us to do it.” Bvuma added that Chiefs are intending to win all their remaining league matches, starting with the game against SuperSport. “Despite our recent form falling below the standards we set for ourselves, it is still our intention to win all of our remaining games in order to finish as high as possible. Obviously, Top 8 is the minimum requirement and with the group of players we have, I believe we are capable of winning every game until the end of the season,” Bvuma said. “Let me be clear, as Kaizer Chiefs we should always be competing for first place in any competition but we have been through a tough patch and we are determined to finish as well as we can.” ALSO READ: SuperSport looking to turn the corner against Kaizer Chiefs Bvuma is expecting a tough game against SuperSport who have not won a game in 2024. “SuperSport are a good team, which is reflected by their position in the league. We all know how good Coach Gavin (Hunt) is and how his teams work hard and are willing to run for 90 minutes. “So, whatever they do, we will need to do better than that and everyone in our squad is prepared to go the extra mile on Saturday,” concluded Bvuma.

Liverpool reach agreement for Arne Slot to become new manager
Liverpool reach agreement for Arne Slot to become new manager
“I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment,” said Van Dijk. Liverpool reached an agreement with Feyenoord on Friday for Arne Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager, British media reported. ALSO READ: Man City in title groove as Arsenal face Spurs test The Press Association said that a compensation package for the 45-year-old, who had two years left on his contract, has now been agreed. The BBC claimed that the deal is worth up to £9.4 million (10.9 million euros). Slot had said Thursday that he was “confident” of landing the Anfield job. “I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I’m very confident in that,” he told reporters. Slot moved to Feyenoord in 2021 after impressing in his first managerial role at AZ Alkmaar. He led the Dutch giants to the inaugural Europa Conference League final at the end of his first season, in which they narrowly lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Roma. Slot then delivered just a second league title in 24 years to De Kuip last season before penning a new three-year deal. Klopp will step down at the end of this season after a nine-year reign which brought the Champions League title in 2019 and Premier League trophy a year later. “I like the way his team plays football. If he is the one, I like that he wants it,” Klopp told reporters on Friday when asked to highlight Slot’s qualities. “I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy. I like that a lot. So good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I’m more than happy. “It’s the best job in the world, best club in the world. Great job, great team, fantastic people. A really interesting job.” Feyenoord are currently second in the Eredivisie table, with PSV Eindhoven nine points clear at the top. Failing to win the Dutch title would be a disappointment for Slot, mirroring Klopp’s frustration at Liverpool’s own faltering title bid. Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League, three points behind leaders Arsenal and two adrift of second-placed Manchester City. City have a game in hand on both Arsenal and Liverpool, who look to have blown their chance after defeats against Crystal Palace and Everton. As well as their poor recent league form, Liverpool have also endured quarter-final defeats in the FA Cup and Europa League. Initially, Bayer Leverkusen boss and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso had been the favourite to succeed Klopp. However, Alonso has committed to staying at Leverkusen after leading them to a first-ever Bundesliga title. Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim was also linked with the Liverpool vacancy but has reportedly held talks with West Ham about replacing David Moyes next season. ALSO READ: Liverpool need Arsenal, Man City ‘crisis’ to win Premier League – Klopp Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said Slot’s attacking tactics could be the ideal match for the Premier League club. “I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment,” said Van Dijk. “I think the way of playing and the philosophy he has, that he could be a Liverpool coach.”

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena feels unfairly judged and treated by the South African media. After losing to Esperance in the CAF Champions League semifinals at Loftus Versfeld, the Soweto-born coach has reminded the public of his achievements at the age of 37. ESPERANCE DEFEAT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS IN THE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Esperance substitute Read Bouchniba‘s emphatic finish before the hour mark broke Sundowns hearts. The goal completed a 2-0 aggregate win after a 1-0 win in the semifinal second leg last night. Despite Sundowns’ complete dominance, missed opportunities cost the dream. Esperance coach Miguel Cardoso described the win as one of the best of his career. “It was rather difficult to prepare this game, probably the most difficult game I ever played, because Sundowns is an unbelievable team,” Cardoso said via iDiskiTimes. “To compete in the right way, we had to use a tactical approach that would allow us to close as much as possible the spaces, the individual quality, the tactical variance that we could see on the pitch. “Yesterday, I had a meeting a 2 o’clock in the afternoon, we almost had no time to practice between the two games, with the sleep and we didn’t know if someone was watching our training, so we didn’t make any big tactical work. “But we had a couple of meetings scheduled, and we had a meeting at 2 o’clock and I cancelled it. I was not ready to tell the players how we should start the game – I had to sit with some of them and discuss,” Cardoso concluded. RULANI MOKWENA HEARTBROKEN Speaking to the media after the game, Sundowns coach Mokwena sent a little message to locals. Mokwena said South Africans easily forget how much he has overachieved at the age of 37. “One of the things that I think South African football forgets, which South African football only remembers when it suits them, is that 𝗜’𝗺 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟯𝟳 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱,” the Sundowns tactician told the media as quoted by iDiskiTimes editor David Kappel via X. “And I’m only my first year as head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns. But I’ve been here as a co-coach for three years, and we’ve won how many league titles? We’ve won Nedbank Cup, we’ve won the MTN8, we’ve won a continental trophy. If I look at my tenure, I myself am very proud of my contributions to this football club,” the Sundowns head coach concluded.

Liverpool FC team news vs. West Ham Injuries and available squad Liverpool FC
Liverpool are still without Diogo Jota for the trip to West Ham this weekend, but Jurgen Klopp is at least buoyed by the return of another striker. The Reds were shocking at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, losing 2-0 in the Merseyside derby, and the season is fizzling out. This weekend, Klopp’s side make the trip to West Ham for their latest Saturday lunchtime offering, in what could be another sticky fixture. Liverpool aren’t helped by the fact that Jota is still unavailable for the London Stadium clash, with a muscle injury suffered at Fulham keeping him sidelined. The Portuguese won’t be back until next month – hopefully in time for the home clash with Tottenham next Sunday. Cody Gakpo is back, however, following the birth of his child. Here’s who is available and who is set to miss out against West Ham: Away from Jota, Liverpool also still have Conor Bradley unavailable because of an ankle injury, but his return isn’t too far away. Nothing has changed regarding Joel Matip, Thiago and Ben Doak. Following such a terrible performance at Everton, Klopp has to decide which players to stick with and who to leave out. Liverpool’s available squad vs. West Ham Goalkeepers: Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian Defenders: Van Dijk, Gomez, Konate, Quansah, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Tsimikas Midfielders: Mac Allister, Jones, Endo, Szoboszlai, Elliott, Gravenberch, Bajcetic McConnell, Clark Forwards: Salah, Nunez, Diaz, Gakpo, Danns

Manchester Uniteds long-term target Frenkie de Jong more open to leaving Barcelona this summer Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester Uniteds long-term target Frenkie de Jong more open to leaving Barcelona this summer Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United’s long-term target, Frenkie de Jong, is in pole position to be sold by Barcelona this season and he is more open to moving this summer than previous years. The Red Devils have struggled to get a tune out of any of their midfielders with the exception of Kobbie Mainoo and Scott McTominay this season. Even the Scot’s contributions have been as a goal scorer and late match winner, not as a midfielder. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who were both such lynchpins in the side last year, have had poor seasons and both don’t look cut out for the rigours of Premier League football any more. Therefore, the Red Devils are looking to sign a midfielder in the summer with Andre, Youssouf Fofana and Joao Neves all linked to a move. However, one long-term target the club and especially Erik ten Hag have had is that of Frenkie de Jong. United spent the entire summer of 2022 chasing De Jong, in spite of the player’s clear preference to stay on the Mediterranean coast. Ever since, the rumours have never really gone away and recent murmurs have suggested that a move could be closer this summer than it has ever been. It was reported recently that United were willing to offer a huge €90 million to secure the services for the Dutch international. What’s more, this week saw reports that Barcelona were prepared to sell the player should he refuse to sign a new contract on significantly reduced weekly wage. Spanish paper AS have added more to the story and report that Barcelona are not only open to a sale but that De Jong is in “pole position” to be sold this summer. The Catalan’s financial issues are widely known and it is clear that they need to sell at least one player to generate funds, if they wish to have any sort of transfer window themselves. “Joan Laporta’s first-person intervention to straighten out Ronald Araújo’s renewal has once again put Frenkie de Jong on the pole for possible transfers”. The paper goes on to provide a catalogue on why De Jong is the man most likely to depart the Camp Nou. “After five seasons as a Barça player, his very high salary is not the only thing that is attributed to the Dutchman. His sporting performance has not been what was expected and he has not become the spiritual leader of Barça that was expected when Josep Maria Bartomeu signed him with great fanfare in 2019”. In addition, “the departure of Sergio Busquets has not pushed him to take the next step and, if that were not enough, he has had the misfortune of suffering three injuries to his right ankle”. The outlet references the Dutchman’s preference to stay at the club but hints that this might be changing. “Settled in the city, where he has even become a father in recent months, De Jong has always shown signs of not wanting to move. However, in recent times a certain rumour has circulated that he could be more open to an exit. There would be no shortage of suitors”. If Ten Hag somehow survives this season and is still the manager during the transfer window, you can fully expect United to pursue De Jong. In addition, if it is true that technical director Jason Wilcox has demanded that the manager pursues a more possession based style, the former Ajax player would be perfect for that role as a deep lying midfielder. The negative of course is that it would be the signing of a star name, who is still relatively young at 26, will definitely have questionable motivation as he will certainly view United as a massive step down from Barcelona. Moreover, De Jong will no doubt expect massive financial compensation for the move and this is a model that INEOS are desperately trying to move away from.
