Debutant No 250 Ethan Wheatley attracting loan interest from Championship clubs Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United had to come back from a goal down on two separate occasions before finally seeing off Premier League’s bottom club Sheffield United 4-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday. The team needed to put on a strong show against the Blades after their capitulation on Sunday but it was the visitors who drew first blood after a careless mistake from Andre Onana. Harry Maguire equalised before half-time but the second half once again saw Chris Wilder’s side re-take the lead through Ben Brereton Diaz. Skipper Bruno Fernandes then took matters into his own hands, scoring from the spot to restore parity before unleashing a left-footed piledriver to hand the Red Devils the lead. The Portuguese was not done yet as he then registered an assist for the team’s fourth netted by Rasmus Hojlund, who also ended his six-game drought. United’s new approach Erik ten Hag’s side clinched all three points and went up to sixth in the table and it was interesting to see the team adopt a more possession-based approach instead of the usual transition-heavy style. Whether the change was necessitated due to Jason Wilcox’s instructions is still not clear. How the team approaches the upcoming tests will shed further light on whether this approach will be the blueprint moving forward. The other big highlight from the game was the emergence of academy sensation Ethan Wheatley from the bench in the 90th minute. The 18-year-old became the 250th academy star to debut for the first team, a remarkable stat and testimony to the work put in behind the scenes at Carrington. The centre-forward has 11 goals and four assists for United’s age group teams this season including a hat-trick against the Liverpool U18s earlier this month. The United U18s have run rampant all season, clinching a league and cup double. He has been a part of the matchday squad for the games against Coventry City in the FA Cup and Bournemouth in the league and finally got a chance against the Blades. With Anthony Martial set to leave, and with Hojlund still not fully adapted, Wheatley has the chance to try and rack up a few more caps and hopefully score before the season concludes. With United set to go all out for a striker in the summer, the England U17 international might find chances hard to come by next season and Givemesport have already revealed that plenty of EFL clubs are interested in a potential loan. Wheatley’s future Academy full-back Harry Amass has also been on the first team bench a lot recently is also subject of loan interest as is Omari Forson, whose contract ends in the summer and there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding his future. “Ethan Wheatley’s goal exploits for the Under 18 side has made him a major loan target for Championship and League One clubs next season. “And the striker isn’t the only United player being eyed for a loan opportunity. Left-back Harry Amass and midfielder Omari Forson are both interesting Championship sides.” More academy debutants could be on the way as the likes of Jack Fletcher, Habeeb Ogunneye, and Shea Lacey are all champing at the bit. Whatever happens next summer, Wheatley should be proud of his rise but he needs to keep focussing on improving as the hard work has only just started. Chiefs Shabalala its sad and painful
Chiefs Shabalala its sad and painful
‘Being in such a big team, in the situation we are in now, it teaches you how to be a man,’ said the Chiefs youngster. Kaizer Chiefs’ young midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has admitted it hurts to see all the negativity surrounding Amakhosi right now, but remains confident the club will find a way to turn the situation around. Amakhosi are tenth in the DStv Premiership, heading into Saturday’s game against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, and are set for a ninth consecutive season without a Premier Soccer League trophy. Their performances have been particularly poor in 2024, where they have managed just three goals and one win in nine matches, and have lost their last three consecutive top flight games, putting their chances of making next season’s MTN8 in serious jeopardy. “It is sad and painful waking up every morning seeing people doubting you, not having trust in you, insulting you that you are not a good player,” said Shabalala at Chiefs training on Thursday. “But I would say pressure is a privilege. Being in such a big team, in the situation we are in now, it teaches you how to be a man. We are still young, and we are players who will be here in years when we will be having a good time in the team.” One for the future As one of the younger players in the squad, at just 20, Shabalala is certainly one for the future at Chiefs, as well as the present – he made 22 appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi last season, and has 15 in the current campaign, though just over half of those have been from the substitute’s bench. Shabalala, as an attacking midfielder, is going to be judged on his goal contributions. And they have dropped off this season compared to last, with just one assist, compared to two goals and two assists in the 2022/23 campaign. “It has not been a good start for me at Chiefs,” said Shabalala with a refreshing honesty. “I have had ups and downs, I think I have missed a lot of chances in front of goal. Here in SA people tend to say good players are those who score goals .. for me it will come at the right moment. Off the field I am working hard.”

Orlando Pirates superstar to hand in transfer request?
Orlando Pirates superstar to hand in transfer request?
Orlando Pirates are already planning for the next season, with both incomings and outgoings in focus. Pirates made a number of signings during the off-season, as well as the January transfer window.  They signed  Melusi Buthelezi from TS Galaxy, Siphelo Baloni from All Stars FC and Katlego Otladisa from Marumo Gallants. They were joined by Karim Kimvuidi, Lesedi Kapinga and Patrick Maswanganyi. Then in January, Pirates added the duo of Thabiso Lebitso and Thalenthe Mbatha. In January, stalwart Thembinkosi Lorch and Bienvenu Eva Nga both left the club for Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United respectfully.  Pirates set to refresh squad Those players are expected to be followed out of the exit door by a few more, in the coming window. The likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Souaibou Marou, Sandile Mthethwa, among those touted for an exit. Another name that could enter that list soon is goalkeeper Richard Ofori. The Ghanaian international has been at least third choice for the past two seasons at Pirates.  Another player who was even expected to leave on loan at the start of this season is Azola Matrose. The young midfielder enjoyed a fruitful loan at Chippa last season, with others expecting him to go on another loan spell. But to the surprise of many, he stayed at Pirates with the promise of fighting for his place.  One player who could be a shock exit is Monnapule Saleng. The left-footed wizard was a revelation for Pirates last season but has since fallen out of favour at the club this term. Now according to The Citizen, that could lead to him asking to leave the club.  Saleng to ask for transfer? “I think the failed moves at the end of last season affected Monnapule (Saleng) somehow. He was never the same player after that. But he is over that right now and you can see whenever he comes in that he is more focused right now. But it looks like the coach wants to turn him into an impact player and he is not happy with that hence he will ask the club (Pirates) to let him go and play somewhere else,”. Said the source to the same publication.  Saleng was also rumoured to be on the loan list for Pirates in the January window. He has since knuckled down and contributed strongly to the side. It seems, however, that he is not satisfied by just that and wants be a regular again, elsewhere.

Khumalo blames humid condition for Amajimbos loss to Colombia
“Conditions were very humid, very hot, ” said the Amajimbos coach. The South African Under-17  team, Amajimbos, lost 2-1 to a 10-man Colombia outfit in the second international friendly match in Palmira on Wednesday afternoon. ALSO READ: Khumalo proud of Amajimbos after draw with Colombia Neo Bohloko scored the opening goal of the match in the 56th minute, but Amajimbos conceded the equaliser five minutes later. The home side then took the lead in the last 11 minutes of the match to register their first win over Amajimbos, with the teams having played to a 2-2 draw on Monday. Amajimbos coach Vela Khumalo blamed the hot weather conditions in Palmira for the loss. “Conditions were very humid, very hot, without maybe moving away from the game itself. We played very well, but again learning needs to happen,” said Khumalo in a short video made by Safa media. WATCH – Ex-Sundowns star Mailula dances after first Toronto goal “Playing a team that doesn’t come at you, playing low block, double low blow, where we needed to explore the width of the game, We tried, but at the same time I’m not blaming my boys, they tried to keep possession and they tried to play well. We only needed a moment of individual brilliance, a dribbling person to dribble and create situations where it’s two versus one, but other than that we did well.” “We are far from finished as we are still working on creating a team that will take us to the U17 Afcon and the 2025 Fifa U17 World Cup,” concluded Khumalo.

Liverpool could announce Arne Slot as new manager THIS WEEK Liverpool FC
Liverpool could announce Arne Slot as new manager THIS WEEK Liverpool FC
With Liverpool in negotiations to appoint current Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp‘s successor, things are moving quickly and he could even be announced this week. With Xabi Alonso off the table, Liverpool have turned to Dutch manager Slot as their preferred figure to take over in the summer, and talks could even be concluded by this weekend report Dominic King and Lewis Steele of the Mail. Their report said: “The situation is developing quickly and talks to bring Slot to Anfield could even be concluded before the weekend.” This would leave the club able to confirm his appointment by the end of the week, should they decide to do so. First, though, Liverpool will need to offer Feyenoord a large enough compensation fee to prise him from the Eredivisie. We know that, on Wednesday, the Reds had their first offer of £7.7 million rejected by the Rotterdam club, but they are expected to come back with an increased sum. It has been widely reported that it will take at least £8.5 million to release him from his contract, that has him remaining at Feyenoord for two more years. Earlier this week, his planned Thursday pre-match press conference was cancelled without reason, further adding to rumours there could be an announcement made soon. We saw a similar thing happen when Klopp announced his departure in January before the Reds’ FA Cup match vs. Norwich.   How would Liverpool play under Slot? The Dutchman tends to play a 4-2-3-1 but doesn’t stick to the formation religiously when his team are on the pitch. His style was described to the i as “high-energy attacking football in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with two deep-lying midfielders and a reliance on wingers to create chances.” From the Coaches Voice, Slot doesn’t “overcommit to the high press,” with his teams “comfortable dropping into a more reserved block” if the chance to win the ball back is not there. In 2022, Slot told UEFA: “When we don’t have the ball, we want to win it back as quickly as possible by being aggressive and pressing to win back possession. I think we are a team that is difficult to beat.” He sounds like a good fit for Liverpool’s players, but the squad’s midfielders will need plenty of energy to get through a season of high intensity football – a problem Klopp has been handed this campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs should give Cavin Johnson a chance
Kaizer Chiefs should give Cavin Johnson a chance
Kaizer Chiefs should give Cavin Johnson a chance to coach beyond the current season, and that’s according to former winger Junior Khanye. Khanye was speaking to SABC’s Lesedi FM on Thursday morning when asked about his opinion on Amakhosi’s struggles under Johnson. In his own words, Khanye said Johnson is one of the best coaches in the country, adding that he knows football more than Molefi Ntseki. Johnson took over from Ntseki on an interim basis following the former Bafana Bafana mentor’s sacking in October 2023. The 65-year-old had a promising start to his stint as Chiefs coach but things have gotten worse in recent months as the team isn’t winning. Chiefs have won just one game since the start of the year; a narrow 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium in early March. However, Khanye is of the view that he can succeed at Chiefs provided they give him the budget to buy players and allow him to assemble his own technical team. Well, when Johnson came in, there was a technical team restructuring as Arthur Zwane was demoted while Dillon Sheppard was retained. Nonetheless, the two coaches haven’t been able to come with solutions to Amakhosi’s problems, and the team finds itself outside the top-eight bracket. JUNIOR KHANYE WANTS KAIZER CHIEFS TO RETAIN CAVIN JOHNSON “Cavin Johnson is one of the best coaches in the country, and I think Kaizer Chiefs should give him a chance,” said Khanye. “If they can give him the budget to buy his own players, and allow him to bring his own technical team, he will succeed at Chiefs,” he added. SHOULD AMAKHOSI STOP THE SEARCH FOR NEW COACH? Now, Khanye’s comments begs the question as to whether or not the Glamour Boys should stop their search for a new coach ahead of next season. The answer is a big NO! And the reason lies in numbers when looking at Johnson’s record since his appointment as Chiefs’ interim coach. To date, Johnson has been in charge of 16 games, and he has won just five, drawn four and lost seven. And it is for this reason and many others that Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr recently confirmed that there will definitely be a new coach coming in at Chiefs next season. Johnson will reportedly return to his role as Head of Youth when the Amakhosi hierarchy appoints the suitable coach.

Jurgen Klopp blames Man United defeat for Liverpools rushed finishing Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp blames Man United defeat for Liverpools rushed finishing Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp has again mentioned the FA Cup defeat to Man United as being a reason for his side’s continued lack of composure in front of goal. To say the wheels have come off Liverpool’s season since that 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford would be an understatement; eight games, three defeats, out of the Europa League and now out of the title race. Against Everton on Wednesday night, there were another three big chances missed, just as there were in recent defeats to Crystal Palace and Atalanta. In each of those three losses the Reds failed to score, missing all 10 of their big chances. “You can see we are in a rush in front of the goal, you can see that,” said Klopp post-match, having seen his side lose a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park for the first time in his tenure. That lack of composure in front of goal has spread throughout the team and Klopp has again highlighted the Man United game as the turning point. “It’s long ago but I blame a little bit the [Manchester] United game for it,” he admitted. “[Having] that many chances and you play really good but you don’t get anything for it. That’s really bad. “Since then, we create but we don’t score often enough and that doesn’t help. “It’s not like in a situation like that you don’t score and then just [think], ‘Ah, forget it, who cares?’ “You cannot act like you scored 15 goals in the last two games or whatever. You can see that and that’s a problem.” Klopp insists it isn’t an attitude problem, saying: “It’s always like this: you have to fight through these periods, it was never different. “People asked me already about mentality. The mentality has different aspects. It’s not a problem of attitude. “The boys want; nobody is doing anything like that on purpose. It’s my job to bring them into a situation that they feel confident to do it. “With that part, I’m responsible for everything that happened tonight, so it’s not that I feel great. But that’s the most tricky part of football obviously, and in the moment it didn’t work out and now we have to keep trying.” Man United “catastrophe” impacted Liverpool Speaking immediately after the FA Cup defeat against United, Klopp had said it was “the first time I really saw my team really struggling.” And in the league game three weeks later, Klopp’s side had 28 shots in a 2-2 draw. The manager saying then of some chances: “The other ones we were in a bit of a rush. I would have loved us to take a second touch and shoot then.” He added: “If we would have been a bit more clinical in some situations then, yes, of course, we can win here.” After defeat to Crystal Palace, Klopp hinted at the psychological impact of the two United games, saying: “I’m not 100 percent sure that, in general, how we dealt with the United games particularly helped. “I mean, we lost the game in the cup and it was like a catastrophe because we were that good and lost it anyway. Then we draw there, were really good for a long spell and just drew it.”

Graham Potter in contact with Ajax over vacant coaching role Man United News And Transfer News
Graham Potter in contact with Ajax over vacant coaching role Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United managerial target, Graham Potter, is reportedly on his way to becoming the new Ajax manager. The Red Devils have endured a disappointing campaign, where even an FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City felt like a loss. The team did win 4-2 last night against last placed Sheffield United but once more, failed to impress outside of moments of individual quality, largely from Bruno Fernandes. As a result of the side’s poor season, Erik ten Hag’s job is seen to be heavily under threat and the new techincal director, Jason Wilcox, is reported to have been charged with carrying out an audit on the Dutchman’s position at the club. As a result, the press has wildly speculated about who would hypothetically replace Ten Hag should the axe fall and one name that has been heavily linked is that of former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter. It had been reported that Potter was a favourite of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and that he had even held a secret meeting with incoming sporting director, Dan Ashworth. What’s more, the Englishman has been said to be very keen on taking the job. However, it was relayed here recently that Ajax were a potential landing spot for the former Brighton man and Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that there has been no contact yet between Potter and United. Some reports suggested that Potter had turned down the Ajax position but according to new information, this may have been wide off the mark. ESPN Netherlands report that “Ajax is in contact with Graham Potter about the vacant coaching position. After his failed adventure at Chelsea, the 48-year-old Englishman is clearly in the picture to become the new coach of the Amsterdam team”. “The coming weeks will also reveal whether the conversation with the former coach … will be continued and where Potter’s coaching future lies”. It is also reported by the news channel that “the possible arrival of Potter cannot be seen separately from the possible return of general manager Alex Kroes. The 50-year-old Kroes was recently suspended by the supervisory board of Ajax for insider trading in Ajax shares”. Nonetheless, “The Board of Directors, club members and Ajax supporters, among others, want Kroes to return and there will be a meeting on Thursday to hear his case and make a decision on the CEO”. It would certainly come as a surprise if Potter were to rule himself out of a move to Manchester United so early on in the process. With Wilcox and INEOS yet to make a decision on Ten Hag’s future and unlikely to do so until after the FA Cup final on the 25th of May, it would seem hasty for Potter to take up a role elsewhere, unless of course, he was never really a target after all. Jose Riveiro says Orlando Pirates will improve next season
Jose Riveiro says Orlando Pirates will improve next season
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro believes his team will be an improved side next season. The Buccaneers were hoping to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the DStv Premiership this season but inconsistency has seen them 16 points behind Masandawana. Despite winning the MTN8 in October, Riveiro’s men never got going in the league. Pirates currently occupy third place with 40 points from 24 matches. For many fans of the club, the season is seen as a failure given how the Buccaneers started the season. Riveiro’s men were unbeaten during preseason which saw them take on La Liga side Las Palmas in Spain. A failure to capture the Carling Knockout Cup also raised questions about Riveiro’s consistency at Orlando Pirates. In his first season, he bagged two trophies and finished second on the log. The Spaniard says consistency will be key in their next games. “We need to win week in and week out, we really need to do it the way we would like to do it and play the way would like to play the game and everything else is a consequence,” said Riveiro as per Citizen. Orlando Pirates have collected 10 points from a possible 15 in their last five matches but Riveiro wants more. He believes his team are on the right path and are getting closer to where he wants them to be. “We don’t play for the result, the result is a consequence of doing things better than the opponents and recently we managed to do it in most minutes of the game and in most phases of the game and that’s why we’re getting the results. Riveiro says there’s still room for improvement at Orlando Pirates “We just want to do it our way and right now we’re getting closer to being the team we want to be in the next month, in the future, next season, but there’s still room for improvement and we’re taking it game by game,” he added. Buccaneers eyeing another cup double Orlando Pirates have the Nedbank Cup still to play for and Riveiro knows how important winning the trophy will be. The Bucs faithful will not be satisfied with just the MTN8 trophy given the quality of players the team has. The Sea Robbers take on Chippa United in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup next weekend which they are favourites to win. Riveiro is yet to lose a final as Orlando Pirates coach having won three trophies so far in two seasons. Should Pirates beat Chippa, the Soweto giants should be favourites to lift the trophy they won last season.

No Mamelodi Sundowns player has been arrested for domestic abuse. The club known as Kabo Yellow have stated. ARREST FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE According to a report by Scrolla.Africa, a Sundowns player was allegedly arrested for assaulting his girlfriend in Kempton Park, Johannesburg on Tuesday. “A Mamelodi Sundown player has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend,” the outlet reported. “The footballer, who cannot be named as he has not yet appeared in court to enter a plea, will spend the night in the cold cells of Sebenza police station near Kempton Park. A source close to the star told Scrolla.Africa that he was arrested for domestic violence at his home on Tuesday afternoon after his girlfriend laid criminal charges against him. He added that the suspect’s girlfriend alleged that he assaulted her at their home. “She opened a case at Sebenza police station. Police arrested him and he will appear in court in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon,’” the source concluded. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS RESPOND Meanwhile, Sundowns have swiftly responded to dispel the news. “Kindly note that there is no Mamelodi Sundowns player, currently playing for the team in the Senior Team or Development, that has been arrested,” the club said in a statement shared by iDiskiTimes’ leading reporter Lorenz Kohler. “Those that picked up the “story” and published, you can contact the police station quoted in the “story” to establish the facts,” Sundowns concluded. SUNDOWNS CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DREAM Meanwhile, the African Football League champions are focused on this weekend’s CAF Champions League second-leg semifinal against Tunisian giants Esperance. With the visitors leading 1-0 from the first leg, the game will be played at the Loftus Versveld Stadium on Friday night at 20:00. The Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has since stated that the expectations on him to lift the trophy are not realistic. The 37-year-old coach said the competition is too powerful and he needs four more years to win it. “I have the feeling that we don’t understand the Champions League. I look at the Champions League with a different perspective because I have been here before,” Mokwena said via TimesLIVE. “I was an assistant coach to the previous coach [Pitso Mosimane] for a very long time and the last coach was here for eight years. He had eight years [four from 2012 to 2016] to try and win the Champions League and we only won the competition once [2016]. “We only played the semifinal two times because the other time, we got into the final. But after that, in eight years, we only played the semifinal once and lost. “This is my second season and we’ve done back-to-back semifinals already and sometimes I have that feeling that people don’t appreciate that because of how they perceive the expectations. “If you look at the profile of the teams in the Champions League, there are 21 titles among the last four. Al Ahly with 11, TP Mazembe with five, Esperance with four and then Sundowns with one. “Now, what gives us the right to think it’s just going to be a walk in the park and win the competition? We have to work hard for it. I got a four-year contract here and all I’m asking for from the Sundowns fans is give me four years to try and win. “I’m not asking for eight. Give me four years to try and win the Champions League. It’s going to happen. It’s not going to be easy. It’s not going to be a win all the time,” the Sundowns tactician concluded.

Jurgen Klopp apologises to fans admits not safe in Champions League places Liverpool FC
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp apologised to fans for the Merseyside derby defeat at Everton which has left his side needing a “crisis” to affect Arsenal and Manchester City in order to salvage their almost-impossible title hopes. The German’s last visit to Goodison Park ended in his first defeat there, having previously won two and drawn five, after goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin left their chances of overhauling both their rivals in tatters. They trail Arsenal by three points and have a vastly-inferior goal difference and while City are a point behind Liverpool they have two matches in hand. “I can only apologise for today to the people. It is very disappointing. We played the game Everton wanted and they scored two goals from set-pieces. We should have done better but we didn’t,” said Klopp. “No good thoughts at all. Very disappointed and frustrated. It was not good enough. “It was not the most inspired performance of all time, I really feel for the people. We never lost here (it was Everton’s first Goodison derby win in almost 14 years) and it feels really different. I really apologise for that. “I can’t say now that we are still fully in it; we need a crisis at Man City and Arsenal and need to win football games because if they start losing all their games and we do what we did tonight nothing changes. “We are not safe in the Champions League as well so we should just play better football. “It is not a problem of attitude or what the boys want. No one is doing that on purpose. “It is my job to bring them into a situation where they feel confident to do that. That part I am responsible and I am responsible for what happened tonight. “It is not that I feel great, that is the most tricky part of football obviously. In the moment it didn’t work out and we have to keep trying.” Victory for Everton lifted them eight clear of 18th-placed Luton, whom they still have to play, and almost certainly secured them top-flight survival. “Pleased obviously, delighted with the performance against a top side, delighted for the Evertonians and the old-school Toffees,” said manager Sean Dyche. “They were terrific. Terrific on Sunday. I am pleased for the club, only the second win in 30 (derbies) I am told. “I think the game was won in the tactical delivery of the team. The performance and level of the performance was top notch. I want to play beautiful football but I want to play winning football first. “This is not as satisfying as the final game of last season (when they escaped relegation with a win over Bournemouth) but it is satisfying to give something back. It is a different kind of satisfaction, believe me.”

Orlando Pirates superstar submits shock transfer request
Orlando Pirates superstar Monnapule Saleng will submit a transfer request at the end of the season as he seeks more regular first-team football and a place in the Bafana squad. Is Saleng on the way out of Orlando Pirates? Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng is no longer a first choice with the Buccaneers despite a scintillating 2022-23 campaign. Last season he was named PSL Players’ of the Season for his outstanding exploits in the final third. Saleng bagged 15 goals and 11 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. However, 2023-24 has seen him lose his place in the Pirates and Bafana Bafana setups. He did make a goal-scoring cameo in Pirates’ thrilling 3-2 win against Chiefs but he’s failed to nail down a regular berth on the right-hand side. According to The Citizen, the 26-year-old has submitted a transfer request. “I think the failed moves at the end of last season affected Monnapule somehow. Stellies star to snub Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for Europe?
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are believed to be going head to head for a number of transfer targets. Chiefs and Pirates are both known for wanting to boost their respective squads with the best quality available. It is believed that, this time around it will be no different between the two Soweto giants. This, of course, will inevitably see them clash for certain targets. According to reports they’re already clashing for Stanley Nwabali, Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, Riaan Hanamub and Shaune Mogaila. That does not seem to be where the list ends, however, with a new name set to be part of the tug-of-war.  In fact, just three weeks ago this publication reported that Chiefs had joined Pirates in the race for Freddy Kouablan. Last month, both were thought to be in the race for Chippa United star Baraka Majagoro. TS Galaxy’s Thato Khiba has also since entered the list. That just proves that both clubs are looking to strengthen their forward lines ahead of next season. Now the latest name to be discussed by both clubs suggests their defensive lines are also a targeted area for improvement.  Pirates and Chiefs interested in Toure Earlier this week, this publication reported that Chiefs had joined Pirates in a race for their ex-trialist Ismael Toure. But now, according to iDiski Times his club Stellenbosch would rather sell the players to a club abroad.  Stellenbosch looking to sell abroad instead “Toure has emerged as a potential target for Orlando Pirates in the off-season. But sources indicate the club and the player’s first preference is to move to Europe. Stellies have not hidden their desire to try and facilitate more moves for players abroad while also securing healthy profits for their investments.” Wrote the publication.  Chiefs could be about to release Njabulo Ngcobo, while Pirates will see Olisa Ndah’s contract come to an end. It remains to be seen what happens to the duo and if it influences the pursuit of Toure.

Liverpool’s abject display in their 2-0 defeat away to Everton was rightly slaughtered by the media, as the Reds’ season fizzles out. Jurgen Klopp‘s reign is ending in a whimper and it’s painful to watch. Liverpool were deservedly beaten at Everton on Wednesday night, as the Reds produced a tired, sloppy showing, losing their first away Merseyside derby since 2010. Here’s how the media reacted to this latest defeat.   Liverpool were unbelievably poor and rightly criticised… The Independent‘s Richard Jolly said this was Klopp’s worst derby as Liverpool manager: “So now Jurgen Klopp has another reason why he will not to miss the Merseyside derby. His last trip to Goodison Park was his worst. “On a night when Everton had multiple reasons to celebrate, they saw off Klopp with the result that all but secures them a 71st consecutive season of top-flight football and may in effect finish off Liverpool’s title challenge. “‘You lost the league at Goodison Park,’ chorused the Evertonians. Klopp has caused them untold pain over the last eight years. “Finally, he was given a taste of how painful Merseyside derbies can be for the losers.” Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph felt exactly the same way: “And then there were two. “The title dream is over for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, their fading hopes dismantled as neighbours Everton inflicted what is arguably the most deflating league result of the German’s nine year reign. “When it comes to Merseyside derbies in the Klopp era, Liverpool left the worst until last. Klopp’s goodbye will not be romantic.” David Lynch took to Twitter to focus on a “sorry end” to Klopp’s reign: “Liverpool’s title challenge ended by their local rivals and they can’t say they deserved anything more. Bullied from minute one by hungrier opponents and so lacking in nerve and quality whenever they created chances. “It’s been a sorry end to Jurgen Klopp‘s final season.” Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Jamie Carragher didn’t hold back in his criticism of his former club: “That’s not acceptable at this level” ?@carra23 has a lot to say after Liverpool’s performance tonight ? pic.twitter.com/JfjWp9nVr2 — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) April 24, 2024   Some players have tailed off alarmingly this season… Alex Richards of the Mirror focused on an awful night for Mohamed Salah: “Klopp brought Mohamed Salah back into his attack, but the Egyptian hasn’t been in the best form recently and that continued here. “Klopp stated after the second leg in Bergamo that he was ‘not concerned’ by Salah’s recent form. That’s despite only one goal from open play in his last seven games and a number of games where he just hasn’t quite looked like himself. “He had chances here and had more shots in the game than anyone else on the field. However, too often they were scuffed, or wayward, and he couldn’t produce the kind of clinical moment which has been a regular feature during his record-breaking time at Anfield. “For him, perhaps more than any other, a very disappointing night.” Writing in his post-match ratings for the Echo, Ian Doyle wasn’t impressed with Ibrahima Konate: “Nightmare first half for the Frenchman, who was bullied by Calvert-Lewin and got in the way to set up Everton opener. “Instantly gave ball away at start of second half.” Meanwhile, This Is Anfield’s Matt Ladson has seen enough from Darwin Nunez at this point: “Darwin Nunez will never be the answer for Liverpool. “Two years is enough to judge, get him gone this summer.”   It’s fair to say that Liverpool’s race is run… Richards certainly think that’s the case: “Jurgen Klopp had never lost a Merseyside derby in the Premier League. He has now. “And with his unbeaten record at Goodison, a second Premier League title has likely gone too.” Phil McNulty of BBC Sport didn’t completely write Liverpool off, but admits it’s almost done: “Liverpool’s players trooped off with heads bowed at the final whistle, some nursing grievances with the officials but the frustration was surely more the knowledge that this might be a decisive night in their title challenge. “They cannot be written off, of course, but Liverpool suddenly look like a side out of energy and ideas, with even the normally reliable Mohamed Salah misfiring all night. […] “Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have defied the odds before but the manner in which they played, and in which they made their retreat at the final whistle, made it clear what damage this defeat has done.”

Girona boss Michel Sanchez instantly rejects Manchester United Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United have been rejected by Girona boss Míchel Sánchez. The Red Devils have endured a tough season which saw an embarrassingly early Champions League exit and they sit sixth in the league, well off the Champions League spots with only five league games remaining. Resultingly, there has been much speculation about the future of current manager, Erik ten Hag. INEOS recently appointed a new technical director, Jason Wilcox, and one of his first major responsibilities is to carry out an audit on the future of the Dutchman before the new owners make a final decision on him. As a result, United have been linked to numerous managers such as Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi. One name that has recently cropped up is that of Michel at Girona. It was relayed here that United are readying to do battle with their cross-city rivals, Manchester City to hire the talented coach. However, according to a report in Spain, the race may be over before it even started. El Nacional (via football365) claims that the Red Devils are “looking for a replacement for” Ten Hag with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe making it “clear that the Dutchman is not the right person to lead the project they are preparing at Old Trafford”. This has led to United “initiating contacts” with Michel but the Spaniard “instantly rejected” the club’s advances. This because he “will not move this summer” as he “prefers to wait” for the Man City job to come up in the future when Pep Guardiola eventually walks away from the Etihad. Even though it is not yet clear if Pep will leave in 2025, Michel “does not want to betray” the Citizens by moving to Man Utd in a deal that “would prevent him from landing at the Etihad Stadium”. The Girona boss is certainly a hot commodity in football right now as he has miraculously guided the Catalan side to third place in the table and they await Champions League football for the first time in their history. However, perhaps as Girona are part of the City Football group, it is a smart move by the Spaniard to believe he may have an inside track when it comes to the highly unenviable task of replacing Guardiola at the Etihad. On the other hand, it does seem surprising that any manager, especially an up and coming one like Michel, would reject a side like United out of hand without any assurances of a future job elsewhere. Five-star Arsenal thrash Chelsea to open up Premier League lead
Five-star Arsenal thrash Chelsea to open up Premier League lead
Defeat leaves Chelsea still in ninth, three points adrift of the European places. Kai Havertz and Ben White scored twice as Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday to surge ahead in the Premier League title race and ramp up the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City. ALSO READ: Unai Emery extends Aston Villa contract Leandro Trossard was also on target in a record win over Chelsea for the Gunners, who move three points clear of Liverpool and four of Manchester City. The destiny of the title remains in City’s hands as the defending champions have two games in hand. Liverpool have also played one fewer game than Arsenal and are in action at Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. However, Mikel Arteta’s men’s goal difference advantage now looks unassailable should it become decisive in the title race. “We have made our people very proud, it is a big derby for us and I know what it means,” said Arteta. “We started the game really well but didn’t convert all our chances – we were a bit sloppy in certain areas of the pitch. “In the second half we were much more disciplined and created chances and were ruthless in front of goal.” Chelsea and Arsenal’s title rivals were dealt a huge blow before kick-off as the Blues’ danger man Cole Palmer was ruled out due to illness. Palmer has scored or assisted nearly 50 percent of Chelsea’s Premier League goals this season and his presence was badly missed by the visitors. Despite enduring a disappointing first season under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea had been unbeaten in eight consecutive league games prior to their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. But they were blown away by an Arsenal side keen to reaffirm their title credentials after losing their last home game to Aston Villa. “So difficult (a) result and performance (to accept) because it is not nice to see your team playing like this from the beginning of the game,” said Pochettino. “Today we didn’t compete against a team fighting for the Premier League. We need to be aware we need to compete in a different way.” The hosts flew out of the blocks and were in front inside five minutes. Trossard only ended up at the Emirates after Arsenal were gazumped by Chelsea in the battle to sign Mykhailo Mudryk in January 2023. The Belgian has proved to be a far more productive signing and smashed in his 15th goal of the season at Djordje Petrovic’s near post. – Havertz haunts Chelsea – Petrovic redeemed himself for a mistake at the opening goal with two brilliant saves to turn away Havertz’s low effort and a deflected shot by Trossard to keep his side in the game before half-time. The Serbian briefly held Arsenal at bay early in the second period with saves from Declan Rice and Havertz. However, the floodgates opened once White curled in Arsenal’s second after Chelsea failed to clear a corner on 52 minutes. Havertz scored the winning goal in a Champions League final for Chelsea during his three years in west London, but he never performed consistently to the level he has found in recent months under Arteta. Martin Odegaard’s stunning through ball was met with the finish it deserved as Havertz smashed high past Petrovic. His next finish was more subtle as the German international fired in off the post from Bukayo Saka’s pass for his seventh goal in his last 14 club games. ALSO READ: African players in Europe: Gueye, Foster end goal droughts A night for forget for Chelsea was summed up when White’s attempted cross flew into the top corner from another sensational Odegaard pass. Defeat leaves Chelsea still in ninth, three points adrift of the European places. Next up for Arsenal is what appears their toughest hurdle remaining away to Tottenham in Sunday’s north London derby. Should Arteta’s side prevail at the home of their fiercest rivals, City will likely need to be perfect in their final six games to retain the title.

Liverpool need Arsenal Man City crisis to win Premier League
“We need a crisis at City and Arsenal and we need to win football games,” said Klopp. Everton secured their first win in a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park since 2010 to leave Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations in ruins after a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday. ALSO READ: Five-star Arsenal thrash Chelsea to open up Premier League lead Defeat leaves Jurgen Klopp’s men still three points adrift of leaders Arsenal and only one point in front of defending champions Manchester City, who have two games in hand. “We need a crisis at City and Arsenal and we need to win football games,” said Klopp of his side’s shot at the title with four games to go of his reign. Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin took Everton eight points clear of the relegation zone. The Toffees now look certain to extend their 70-year stay in the English top flight despite being deducted eight points on two charges of breaching financial rules. Klopp had never lost on his previous eight visits to Goodison but his final taste of the Merseyside derby was a bitter one. Hopes of a glorious goodbye for the German after a nearly nine-year tenure that has transformed the club’s fortunes are fading fast. “If we play like today we have no chance to consider ourselves in the race,” said Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. “I think everyone has to look in the mirror and look at their performance and if they’ve given everything. Do they really want to win the league?” According to reports, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is being lined up as Klopp’s successor and the past few weeks have exposed weaknesses that need addressing in a huge summer for the Liverpool hierarchy. – ‘Energy, commitment’ – The Reds have won just one of their last four league games and have also bowed out of the FA Cup and Europa League in recent weeks. Klopp made six changes after resting a number of key players for Sunday’s 3-1 win at Fulham but did not get the response he desired. Buoyed by their weekend win over Nottingham Forest to pull clear of the relegation zone, Everton are a side transformed from the one that went 13 Premier League games without a win between December and April. “Delighted with the performance of our players and delighted for the Evertonians,” said Everton boss Sean Dyche. “They’re a good side, we know that. The commitment and energy from us had to be there.” Slow starts have been a recurring factor as Liverpool’s quest for four trophies has unravelled. Everton thought they had a penalty in the opening minutes when Calvert-Lewin was tripped by Alisson Becker but VAR intervened to save the visitors as the striker was offside. Alisson then clawed away a Calvert-Lewin header and Ben Godfrey nodded wide as Liverpool struggled to cope with Everton’s threat from set-pieces. More comical defending from the Reds led to the opener on 27 minutes. Alexis Mac Allister’s mishit fell perfectly for Branthwaite and the defender’s effort went in off the post despite Alisson’s best efforts. Going behind woke Liverpool from their slumber and only a combination of wasteful finishing and Jordan Pickford preserved Everton’s lead until half-time. Darwin Nunez blasted straight at the England number one when clean through before the Uruguayan teed up Luis Diaz to fire too close to Pickford. Mohamed Salah’s loss of form has come at the worst possible time for Liverpool’s title challenge and the Egyptian sliced another good opening well over the bar. ALSO READ: Unai Emery extends Aston Villa contract Liverpool were camped in the Everton half after the break, yet the hosts pulled further clear just before the hour mark from another dead ball. Calvert-Lewin was afforded a free header at the back post to power home Dwight McNeil’s corner. Liverpool’s night was summed up when Diaz’s powerful effort came back off the post with Pickford finally beaten. But it was Klopp who was crestfallen come the final whistle as he looks set to depart Anfield with just one Premier League title to his name.

Manchester United target Castello Lukebas release clause is higher than first thought Man United News And Transfer News
1 Manchester United target Castello Lukeba is likely to stay at Red Bull Leipzig this summer as his release clause is significantly higher than first thought. The French centre back has enjoyed a fruitful first season in Germany, playing 37 games in all competitions for his new side. Such has been the 21 year old’s form that he has already been linked to a big money move to Manchester United. The Red Devil’s defence has been a nightmare this season, as even lowly Sheffield United were able to score two goals in a 4-2 win for the Old Trafford side last night. Numerous injuries and poor form of many defenders has resulted in INEOS deciding that central defence is a key area to bolster in the upcoming transfer window with names such as Jarrad Branthwaite, Gleison Bremer and Ronald Araujo all mentioned. Lukeba was also recently linked to a move to Old Trafford. It was reported that United have been monitoring him for weeks. It was stated that the defender also has a release clause of €70 million which is only valid from 2025. However, recent reports suggest the clause is currently significantly higher. Sky Deutschland state that thanks to “clever negotiations” Lukeba is in fact, “likely to leave for a fixed €90 million in 2025”. “If Lukeba’s clause is not triggered by then, for example, there would still be €65-70 million as an exit option in the contract in 2026”. “This prevents the player from seeing Leipzig as just a stopover and leaving immediately – at the same time, Leipzig is securing a rain of millions in the event of a departure. The player, in turn, is assured of clauses. Win-win”. Lukeba is certainly a talent and has been described as a player with “a unique style of play that will leave him perfectly equipped for a successful career. It’s hard to keep your eyes off him, but there are plenty of clubs that could use a centre back like him”. However, with such a price over his head and Leipzig clearly unwilling to negotiate, it seems that United or any interested club may need to wait until 2026 at the earliest to secure a reasonable deal for the centre back. Kaizer Chiefs fans are growing increasingly anxious about the uncertain managerial situation at Naturena. Amakhosi hot seat situation is getting hotter Take your pick as to who might eventually succeed interim coach Cavin Johnson and become the permanent Kaizer Chiefs boss. Pitso Mosimane, Alex Gallo, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, Nasreddine Nabi, Raul Caneda, Rui Vitoria and Manqoba Mngqithi have all been mentioned as possible candidates. Our writer also has a theory around Sekhukhune’s Lehlohonolo Seema. However, we’re no closer to knowing the identity of the man Amakhosi’s board will entrust with the responsibility. “I think Raul Caneda is suitable for Chiefs, we’ve tried our own products but failed. So better go for import.” – said one South African reader, referring to the club’s insistence on backing South African bosses, an approach which hasn’t yielded results in recent years. Chiefs are still waiting for their first trophy since scooping the league title in 2015 under Englishman Stuart Baxter. Seema is a serious option 43-year-old Lehlohonolo Seema is at the start of his journey. He hasn’t had the glitziest jobs but is building up an impressive body of work across South Africa’s football pyramid. He’s enjoyed various roles at the now-defunct Bloem Celtic, the caretaker manager tole at Black Leopards and then head coaching jobs at Chippa, Golden Arrows and Polokwane City. Sekhukhune hired Seema in November 2023. In just four months, he’s overseen 10 league matches. He’s won five of those, with three draws and two defeats, the most recent reverse coming against champions-elect Sundowns on 23 April. This is a serious football team punching above their weight in a big way. If this man isn’t being strongly considered, the Amakhosi top brass simply aren’t paying enough attention. Giuseppe Rossi believes Roy Keane is right man to replace Erik ten Hag Man United News And Transfer News
1 Former Manchester United striker, Giuseppe Rossi, has made the sensational claim that Roy Keane should be the next manager of the club. The former Italian striker was briefly a teammate of Keane’s at United, as he played for the club between 2004 and 2007. United have had a tough season as they exited the Champions League, and European football as a whole, before Christmas and sixth place currently looks the best they can finish in the league. There is the glimmer of hope of an FA Cup final next month to look forward but it is against the juggernaut that is Manchester City. As a result of the poor season, Erik ten Hag’s future as manager has been the subject of hot debate for the media and pundits alike. Many believe that the Dutchman’s days are numbered as coach regardless of what happens in the FA Cup final but Rossi’s opinion is rather unique in who he claims should take over the role. Speaking to DAZN he claimed, “when I think about potentially having Roy Keane as manager at Old Trafford, that sounds like it could be really great”. “It would be something very cool. The club should definitely think about it if they have a change in management. A man who is a legend of the club and helped build their culture, that’s exactly what is needed”. The New Jersey born former striker claimed that the Irishman could help instil a better culture and understanding of what it means to play for United. “Maybe some of the players that are not playing for the shirt would understand it more. Maybe you need someone to go into Manchester United and clean the house so to speak and build from there. It could be a great situation”. The Cork native’s last job in management was back in 2011 when he was boss of Ipswich Town. Keane has been involved with coaching more recently with spells at Aston Villa and the Republic of Ireland national team. He has been recently linked to a return to management as Sunderland boss and of the country he used to represent. Nonetheless, the former United skipper is more well-known as a pundit these days and has hardly been the biggest fan of Erik ten Hag or his former side’s work as of late. Recently after the Red Devil’s chaotic, error-strewn victory over Coventry City in the FA Cup he branded the current playing squad as “hard to like”. In addition, he also pondered whether Erik ten Hag had been enjoying a couple of glasses of wine before his post-match press conference against Liverpool due to a disagreement in analysis of the game. Whilst Rossi’s prediction is fanciful at best, a Keane regime at United would certainly create some fireworks. Want to be the first to hear breaking Man United news? I know the solution to their problems!
I know the solution to their problems!
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be pressing ahead with plans to secure the services of a new coach next season. Arthur Zwane was in-charge at Chiefs last season, before being replaced by Molefi Ntseki ahead of the current campaign. To the majority of the Chiefs fan base, Ntseki was already an unpopular appointment, with no positive track record. Prior to taking over the first team reigns, he had never coached a senior professional side. He did, however, coach Bafana Bafana after Stuart Baxter, before being fired for failing to qualify for AFCON 2021. The duo reunited as part of a new structure at Amakhosi, which put him in charge of football development. Ntseki did not last long as Chiefs coach, however, being sacked before even the halfway mark of the season. This came after an unconvincing start to the campaign which also saw them knocked out of two cups. After being relieved of his duties, the club appointed Johnson to take over on an interim basis. Coincidently, Cavin Johnson also came into the club in a developmental role, before being asked to steady the senior ship. A run which saw Chiefs winning three of their last four games of 2024, saw Johnson in with a shout. But now according to the latest, the club are back looking at other candidates. There have been the likes of Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi in a local sense. Internationally, Jose Peseiro, Vanderlei Luxembergo , Raul Caneda Perez and Nasreddine Nabi.  Vermezovic claims to have the solution to Chiefs woes Now speaking to KickOff.com former Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic says he knows how to fix the problems at Chiefs. “For Kaizer Chiefs, it is too much to hear that they have gone almost 10 years without winning a trophy. Everything is about trophies at Chiefs. I know that because I was there. I know the solution for what is happening at Chiefs. Of course, the fans will not be happy if you don’t win games and don’t win trophies.” Said Vermezovic.  Won two trophies in three years at Amakhosi Vermezovic won two Telkom Knockout Cup titles in his three-year spell at Chiefs.

Liverpool player ratings vs. Everton as Konate and Nunez flop Liverpool FC
Liverpool player ratings vs. Everton as Konate and Nunez flop Liverpool FC
There were some wretched individual performances in Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Everton, with the Reds’ season completely falling apart. Jurgen Klopp‘s side had to win to keep their Premier League title hopes alive – it’s fair to say they are over now! Liverpool never deserved anything at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring the goals for the home side. For Klopp and his side, this is an increasingly shambolic and sad end to a season that once promised so much. Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool Echo, GOAL, FotMob and This Is Anfield’s readers. So many Liverpool players were woeful on the night, but Ibrahima Konate (3.3) was the unwanted recipient of the lowest average rating. The Frenchman is an excellent young centre-back, but his form has tailed off alarmingly this season and he was awful at Goodison. TIA’s Mark Delgado bemoaned a “genuinely awful attempt” from Konate that “led to the opening goal” by Branthwaite, adding that he was “lucky to have lasted an hour.” The second-worst score went to Nunez (3.6), who was once again guilty of missing a huge chance, offering nowhere near enough. Ian Doyle of the Echo said that Liverpool “became less effective longer game progressed”, with fans beginning to lose faith in the Uruguayan. Dominik Szoboszlai (3.7) has seen his first season in a Reds shirt drop off hugely, and he was also poor. Mark Doyle of GOAL described the Hungarian as a “cheap imitation of the player who had such an excellent first half of the season.” Meanwhile, Delgado called it an “absolute ghost display” by Szoboszlai, who like so many, offered no quality and fight throughout. There was arguably only one player who deserved any credit at Goodison and that was Luis Diaz (6.4), who at least gave his all. The Colombian got the highest rating from FotMob, who pointed out that he had a 91 percent pass accuracy and won both of his two tackles. Liverpool now face a quick turnaround, with a trip to West Ham to come on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm BST).

5 years experience: Kaizer Chiefs to choose this coach?
5 years experience: Kaizer Chiefs to choose this coach?
It’s the final week of April. Kaizer Chiefs management have to keep their on the clock and on the calendar. New reports from Soccer Laduma say Raul Caneda is the leading favourite to replace Molefi Ntseki and his interim successor Cavin Johnson. KAIZER CHIEFS TO HIRE RAUL CANEDA AS NEW HEAD COACH AHEAD OF PITSO MOSIMANE? As previously reported, Amakhosi recently confirmed the search for a new head coach for next season. A recent report by FARPost confirmed a list of seven candidates for the Kaizer Chiefs vacancy: Rui Vitoria Pitso Mosimane Jose Pesiero Alexandre Santos Julien Chevalie Miguel Gamondi Florent Ibenge. Older Kaizer Chiefs list: Raul Caneda Nasreddine Nabi Alexandre Gallo Vanderlei Luxemburgo Manqoba Mngqithi Benni McCarthy. Meanwhile, Soccer Laduma believe the Spaniard Caneda has taken the lead to become the next Kaizer Chiefs coach. The report says Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi have emerged as unrealistic. “There are many (challenging) factors about Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi and that’s why they are intensifying their talks with Raul (Caneda),” the source said. “He was actually one of the first five on the original shortlist and they have been talking about him for some time now and he has overtaken Pitso on the priority list. “They believe that looking at his history he could be the one to change the team’s fortunes from next season. So for now we say he is the top priority ahead of coach Pitso (Mosimane),” the source added. Additionally, another source told the same outlet that Mngqithi to Kaizer Chiefs is simply unlikely. “No, I don’t think at this time there is a chance for Mngqithi. They know it will be difficult to get him if Sundowns are renewing his contract. But they also don’t want to feel like they are trying to destabilise Sundowns and that’s why they are looking at the Spanish coach who was on the shortlist. So, for next season I think it will be Caneda to take over from Cavin Johsnon,” the source concluded. A BRIEF LOOK AT RAUL CANEDA While there is no recorded evidence of Caneda winning a trophy, his early experience and overall background makes him a coach with high potential to revive Kaizer Chiefs. The Spaniard’s first job as a head coach was in 2012 before his last engagement in 2020. List of jobs and six years experience: 2011–2013 Al-Ittihad – Saudi Arabia 2014 – Al Nassr – Saudi Arabia 2016 – Al Nassr – Saudi Arabia 2019 – Umm Salal – Qatar 2020 – Khor Fakkan – United Arab Emirates. Experience as an assistant coach: 2006–2007 – Dorados de Sinaloa – Spain 2007–2009 – Real Sociedad – Spain 2009–2011 – UD Almería – Spain. KAIZER CHIEFS CONFIRMED SEARCH FOR A NEW COACH “It’s something we communicated from the onset — Cavin has stepped in on an interim basis and we’re [committed] to having a different technical structure next season,” Kaizer Chiefs’ Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr said TimesLIVE. Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr and the club Football Manager, Bobby Motaung. Image: BackpagePix. “I know we are focused on the next game and the next seven games and we have everything to play for. But yes, definitely the plans have long been in motion — we’ll be having a different technical structure next season. The Kaizer Chiefs boss continued to add: “Well, you know, it’s our shortlist but who makes that shortlist? From our side we’ve been preparing for a while now and at the appropriate time we’ll make the right announcements. “Like I said, the wheels have been in motion for quite a while now. We’re also not just looking at it as if it’s a one-man coach; we’re looking at it in terms of what we need and we’ll be making all the changes we need to make that are going to take us in the direction we need to go in. “I think for us to achieve what we need to achieve, and what this club is known for, is not just going to take one person. It’s not just going to take a coach, or a [change of] technical staff. “It’s going to take a lot of people, a lot of structures, a lot of elements that need to work that have not been working for many years. “We [Kaizer Chiefs] are very cognisant of where we are and what needs to be done and what we haven’t done right in the past. We are really focused on the future right now and we want to make sure we make the right decisions,” he concluded. Who should Kaizer Chiefs appoint as the next head coach and technical director? Theres still a future for Zwane at Kaizer Chiefs Reports
Samkelo Zwane will be allowed to leave the club on loan next season but there’s still a big future for him at Kaizer Chiefs. Absence makes the heart grow fonder Samkelo Zwane has been a bit-part player this season after the 22-year-old midfield schemer fell down the pecking order. Interim head coach Cavin Johnson has favoured more experienced options Yusuf Maart, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Edson Castillo and even the soon-departing Siyethemba Sithebe in the all-important engine room. This situation didn’t look likely at the back end of the last campaign when Zwane became a fixture in the side under Molefi Ntseki. Whether or not he can return after a potential loan move is up for debate. In August last year, Zwane signed a new five-year contract so it would be a surprise if the club didn’t wait another season at least before making a definitive decision on his future. Samkelo Zwane makes his Chiefs debut against Stellenbosch FC. Image: @FMSouthAfrica / Twitter Zwane is frozen out at Naturena The 22-year-old Zwane has made only seven league appearances this term, the most recent of those coming as a substitute against Richards Bay. His agent Mike Makaab has explained his lack of game time and also alluded to what his client’s prospects at Chiefs are next season. “I’ve spoken to the youngsters about this. It’s always difficult for any football coach to play young players when the team is not playing consistently well because your fear as a coach is that the pressure on the younger players, under difficult circumstances, might affect them negatively. I don’t think it’s a matter of the coach (Why Zwane isn’t playing). I think it’s because the team (Chiefs) is struggling to end any sort of consistency. It’s difficult to blame the technical staff for not wanting to play young players,” Makaab told Soccer-Laduma. Mailula calmly turned the ball home in the 30th minute to put his side 2-0 up. Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cassius Mailula finally scored his first goal in his first ever start for Toronto FC on Wednesday, netting in a 5-0 win over Simcoe County Rovers in the Canadian Championship. Mailula calmly turned the ball home in the 30th minute to put his side 2-0 up, given a chance in the Toronto starting line up by head coach John Herdman, who has given Mailula just 11 minutes off the bench in this season’s Major League Soccer campaign in the US. The winner gets a place in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. More game time? The 22 year-old Mailula may well need this tournament for game time as Toronto head coach Herdman has already suggested there are too many strikers ahead of him in the MLS pecking order. Mailula’s move has previously also been criticised by Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos for this same reason. The Limpopo-born striker’s next match with Toronto is an MLS match at Orlando City on Saturday.

Kaizer Chiefs interested in a defender they once REJECTED?
Kaizer Chiefs interested in a defender they once REJECTED?
Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly interested in signing Ivorian defender Ismael Toure. It is reported that the 26-year-old Stellenbosch defender had trials at Amakhosi in 2017 when he first arrived in the country. The Soweto Giants however did not sign Toure. The defender has played 20 league matches so far for Stellies and has looked solid and reliable at the back. Kaizer Chiefs, on the other hand, have leaked goals of late and require a quality defender. Toure has impressed since joining the Cape-based team this season. The strong Ivorian defender has already won five Man of the Match awards this season and is a contender for defender of the season. Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker won’t want to sell his priced player for anything less. According to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs rivals Orlando Pirates are also monitoring the defender. “Toure is one of the players that have been on the radar of Chiefs. There’s been interest in the player since his days at Marumo Gallants and Stellenbosch FC were quick to sign him. Pirates and Chiefs have been monitoring the player while there’s also a possibility of him going overseas,” said the publication.  Kaizer Chiefs reportedly interested in defender Toure seven years later Stellies has had a good season thus far and are in a good position to finish second in the DStv Premiership. Barker’s side have accumulated 43 points so far with 12 wins from 24 matches. Having already won the Carling Knockout Cup, Stellies can add a cherry on top by qualifying for the CAF Champions League. The problem with overachieving can lead to big clubs poaching top players. Kaizer Chiefs are already eyeing their top defender, while Mamelodi Sundowns have shown interest in highly-rated midfielder Jayden Adams. Amakhosi are no strangers to signing Stellies players having brought in Sibongiseni Mthethwa this season. Will Toure move to Chiefs? In recent weeks, Barker has spoken out against selling players. His team are in a good spot to finish second and may as well end up winning two domestic cups end the end of the season. The club are not forced to sell their defender Ismael Toure to Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season. Amakhosi are unlikely to finish the season above Stellies or even qualify for the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup. Toure is better suited as the Cape side but Amakhosi have the money and again are the bigger club in terms of resources and history.

Kaizer Chiefs flop regretting his choice to spurn Orlando Pirates?
Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro has endured a tough debut season at Naturena and it could have been so different had he signed for Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates. Chivaviro’s goal-scoring touch deserted him at Kaizer Chiefs Chivaviro joined Chiefs from Marumo Gallants after a prolific season where he bagged 17 goals across 30 appearances for the relegated outfit. Orlando Pirates reportedly reached an agreement with Chivaviro but the player insisted on a move to Naturena as he’s a lifelong Amakhosi supporter. Richards Bay entered the fray claiming they had signed a pre-contract with them but Chiefs got their man. Things haven’t worked out according to plan, however, neither for the player nor the club. Chivaviro has been a bit-part player, often overlooked in the central striking position with Ashley Du Preez often preferred in the number 9 role. Ranga has just two goals and an assist to show for his efforts in 16 league appearances this term. Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson speaks about his plan for striker Ranga Chivaviro. Image Source: (@DFA/Twitter) Orlando Pirates continue to bag silverware Jose Riveiro’s Sea Robbers have defended their MTN8 crown this season and are on course to do the same in the Nedbank Cup. Their next assignment is a semi-final away to Chippa next Saturday, the 4th of May. PIRATES WEIGHING UP MABASA SALE? 27-year-old striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has been flying for the Buccaneers after a loan spell at Swallows. He’s got eight goals in 10 appearances across all competitions since his return across Soweto. Overall in the league, he’s got 11 goals and is in the thick of the Golden Boot race alongside Lucas Ribeiro Costa (11 goals) and Khanyisa Mayo (10). Naturally, this form has attracted some admirers. Mabasa’s agent Gary Cassisa has revealed interest in his client, including a failed move to Sundowns in January. Cassica says Sundowns face stiff competition from Romanian giants FCSB. Orlando Pirates sign the next Happy Jele?
Those players are expected to be followed out of the exit door by a few more, in the coming window. The likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Souaibou Marou, Sandile Mthethwa, among those touted for an exit. Another name that could enter that list soon is goalkeeper Richard Ofori. The Ghanaian international has been at least third choice for the past two seasons at Pirates.  Pirates sign Madalane Another player who was even expected to leave on loan at the start of this season is Azola Matrose. The young midfielder enjoyed a fruitful loan at Chippa last season, with others expecting him to go on another loan spell. But the window will not all be about outgoings. Pirates are set to make some signings at both a senior and junior level ahead of next season. Now according to KickOff.com they have already sealed the deal for young Dimpho “Khalabemgeza” Madalane.  The high scholar is already playing men’s football, as he is part of Mpumalanga’s ABC Motsepe League side Madubaduba FC. Having signed what is thought to be a long-term contract, Madalane is expected to form part of the Pirates DStv Diski Challenge side. The player is set to move to Johannesburg in June, with the club already organising a new school for him. Speaking to the same publication, the coach credited for Madalane’s development, December Majola waxes lyrically about Pirates’ latest teenage signing.  The next Happy Jele? “Madalane is a full-back, but he is versatile, he can play anywhere the coach prefers him. He’s got the sweetest left foot you’ve seen in South African football in a long time. Pirates have found themselves a gem here.” Said Majola.  Majola also nurtured the talents of Pirates legend Happy Jele. Madalane and the most capped Buccaneers both come from the Mhluzi township near Middleburg. Will the youngster end up with the same success?

Why Zwane is frozen out at Kaizer Chiefs
Midfield player Samkelo Zwane has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks for Kaizer Chiefs. Zwane is out in the cold for now 22-year-old central midfield general Samkelo Zwane has made only seven league appearances this term, the most recent of those coming as a substitute against Richards Bay. “I’ve spoken to the youngsters about this. Image: @kaizerchiefs/X. A loan move away from Kaizer Chiefs is still on the cards “I think it would be premature to discuss anything of this nature, I would say that one would only look at [potential loan moves] come the end of this season. Obviously, we would, as we [ProSport] do with all football clubs, sit with the football club (Chiefs) and discuss each and every player we represent, get feedback from the club, and if the club believes it’s worthwhile and better for the player’s development. For him [Zwane] or any player, let’s forget about Samkelo but any player in general, for a player to go out on loan and if we believe and support the narrative, we’ll get behind doing it but making sure the loan is one where we believe the player has got an opportunity for game time and [good] minutes.” Makaab told to iDiski Times. There’s still a future for Zwane Samkelo Zwane has been a bit-part player this season after the 22-year-old midfield schemer has fallen down the pecking order. Why Zwane is frozen out at Kaizer Chiefs
Samkelo Zwanes limited game time at Kaizer Chiefs explained?
Samkelo Zwanes limited game time at Kaizer Chiefs explained?
Kaizer Chiefs were thought to have made a decision pertaining to the future of one of their youngsters. Some changes are expected at the end of the season, which will affect players and coaching staff at Chiefs. Chiefs find themselves languishing in eighth place in the DStv Premiership thus far, with the squad underperforming. The team has not fared much better in the cup competitions either. Under Molefi Ntseki, they were knocked out of both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup. That prompted the Amakhosi management to relieve the former Bafana Bafana coach of his duties. Chiefs then redeployed Cavin Johnson as their interim coach from his role overseeing the club’s academy. The club found themselves knocked out of the Nedbank Cup during his tenure. Under both coaches, one player that has hardly got a look in under both coaches is midfielder Samkelo Zwane. For Zwane, the numbers this season hardly support the possibility of him growing into a first team regular any time soon. In his breakthrough season last campaign, he made 12 league appearances, from the second half of the season. It was thought that his second campaign would see him become an even more integral part of the Chiefs season. However, under both ex-coach Ntseki it was clear to see he was not going to be a regular.  No loan decision made yet on Zwane It was previously reported by this publication that Chiefs were ready to sacrifice Zwane and send him on loan. Last week, however, this website reported that his agent Mike Makaab said, no such decision has been made yet. Furthermore, he has tried to pinpoint the reason for the lack of game time.  Why he hasn’t really played at Chiefs “I’ve spoken to the youngsters about this. It’s always difficult for any football coach to play young players when the team is not playing consistently well because your fear as a coach is that the pressure on the younger players, under the difficult circumstances, might affect them negatively. I don’t think it’s a matter of the coach (Why Zwane isn’t playing). I think it’s because the team (Chiefs) is struggling to end any sort of consistently. It’s difficult to blame the technical staff for not wanting to play young players.” Said Makaab to Soccer-Laduma. With the DStv Premiership reaching its final stretch, it will be interesting to see if Zwane feature for Chiefs. He did make an appearance from the bench in the loss to Richards Bay FC on Sunday.
