In fact there's so much good stuff in here, and so many powerful and well researched points, that I would recommend that every single researcher in this field gets a copy of this.— Ann Memmott PgC MA (@AnnMemmott) September 12, 2022

Also, thanks for this:"There is no clear scientific basis for segmenting the autism spectrum [into] ‘severe’ or ‘profound’ autism... doing so poses grave risks, potentially excluding people deemed ‘severe’ or ‘profound’ from the concern, dignity & respect offered to others".Aye— Ann Memmott PgC MA (@AnnMemmott) September 12, 2022

"The researchers found that in datasets that required ADOS screening for eligibility, the ratio of male to female participants ended up being around 8:1, while in those that required only a community diagnosis the ratios ranged from about 2:1 to 1:1."1/5https://t.co/wHyoW6oMi0— AutisticSciencePerson, MSc (@AutSciPerson) September 12, 2022

For science to seem "legitimate," a lot of publishers will require that autistic people (even with a formal diagnosis) fill out something like the ADOS to be considered for a study. Ironically, what this does is make the literature more biased against marginalized genders.3/5— AutisticSciencePerson, MSc (@AutSciPerson) September 12, 2022

So, in summary, I am pleased that a team is reflecting on the vital part that kind, caring, strong leadership has.I would invite teams to also reflect on whose voices are missing, in such papers - and on how loved people and their homes are described.— Ann Memmott PgC MA (@AnnMemmott) September 11, 2022

I was talking about this with @drdevonprice a few weeks ago: parents of autistic kids and #ActuallyAutistic people often think these benchmarks are because of rigorous testing. How does a provider who mandates every foster parent be Christian serve secular kids? Even though DFPS is planning to expand, there are no other options for Treatment Foster Care in 5 DFPS regions. This is particular worrying for LGBTQ youth who need affirming placements.— Erin Zwiener (@ErinForYall) September 8, 2022
