Assessing Malingered Auditory Verbal Hallucinations in Forensic and Clinical Settings | Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law
The gold standard for the detection of malingered psychosis involves expert clinical assessment augmented by standardized psychometric testing. The evaluation of malingered auditory verbal hallucinations is complicated, however, by increasing evidence that voice-hearing is a broadly heterogeneous experience that does not always reflect psychopathology, with atypical features nearly as common as typical characteristics. The detection of malingered auditory verbal hallucinations in clinical settings may be particularly vulnerable to false positives and false negatives due to low suspicion on the part of clinicians, low utilization and poor specificity of psychometric testing, and “iatrogenic malingering” that is less likely to include cartoonish claims and more likely to involve voice-hearing as a sole presenting symptom (i.e., monosymptomatic auditory verbal hallucinations). In both clinical and forensic settings, the detection of malingered auditory verbal hallucinations requires detailed exploration of phenomenologic features along with mediating factors that influence the risk of associated violence or suicide.

Targeting of Functional Antibody-Decay-accelerating Factor Fusion Proteins to a Cell Surface* - Journal of Biological Chemistry
Targeting of Functional Antibody-Decay-accelerating Factor Fusion Proteins to a Cell Surface* - Journal of Biological Chemistry
Recombinant soluble complement inhibitors hold promise for the treatment of inflammatory disease and disease states associated with transplantation. Targeting complement inhibitors to the site of complement activation and disease may enhance their efficacy and safety. Data presented show that targeting of decay-accelerating factor (DAF, an inhibitor of complement activation) to a cell surface by means of antibody fragments is feasible and that cell-targeted DAF provides significantly enhanced protection from complement deposition and lysis compared with soluble untargeted DAF.

On the non-significance of internal versus external auditory hallucinations - PubMed
Traditionally, auditory hallucinations (AHs) heard outside the head have been regarded as more pathological than those heard inside, partly on the basis that internal AHs are conceptually closer to normal thinking than external AHs. Our data show that many patients hear AHs both internally and exter …

The auditory hallucination: a phenomenological survey - PubMed
A comprehensive semi-structured questionnaire was administered to 100 psychotic patients who had experienced auditory hallucinations. The aim was to extend the phenomenology of the hallucination into areas of both form and content and also to guide future theoretical development. All subjects heard …

Frontiers | Cancer Immunotherapy Based on Natural Killer Cells: Current Progress and New Opportunities | Immunology
Cancer immunotherapy has been firmly established as a new milestone for cancer therapy, with the development of multiple immune cells as therapeutic tools. Natural killer (NK) cells are innate immune cells endowed with potent cytolytic activity against tumors, and meanwhile act as regulatory cells for the immune system. The efficacy of NK cell-mediated immunotherapy can be enhanced by immune stimulants such as cytokines and antibodies, and adoptive transfer of activated NK cells expanded ex vivo. In addition, NK cells can arm themselves with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs), which may greatly enhance their anti-tumor activity. Most recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from NK cells show promising anti-tumor effects in preclinical studies. Herein, we carefully review the current progress in these NK cell-based immunotherapeutic strategies (NK cells combined with stimulants, adoptive transfer of NK cells, CAR-NK cells, and NK EVs) for the treatment of cancers, and discussed the challenges and opportunities for opening a new horizon for cancer immunotherapy.

Hallucinations in nonpsychotic disorders: toward a differential diagnosis of "hearing voices" - PubMed
While auditory hallucinations (AH) are prototypic psychotic symptoms whose clinical presence is often equated with a psychotic disorder, they are commonly found among those without mental illness as well as those with nonpsychotic disorders not typically associated with hallucinations in DSM-IV. Better than mermaids and stray dogs? Subtyping auditory verbal hallucinations and its implications for research and practice - PubMed
The phenomenological diversity of auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) is not currently accounted for by any model based around a single mechanism. This has led to the proposal that there may be distinct AVH subtypes, which each possess unique (as well as shared) underpinning mechanisms. This could …

ACCF/AHA 2011 Expert Consensus Document on Hypertension in the Elderly | Circulation
ACCF/AHA 2011 Expert Consensus Document on Hypertension in the Elderly | Circulation
This document has been developed as an expert consensus document by the American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) and the American Heart Association (AHA), in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), the American Society of Hypertension (ASH), the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the American Society for Preventive Cardiology (ASPC), the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC), and the European Society of Hypertension (ESH). Expert consensus documents are intended to inform practitioners, payers, and other interested parties of the opinion of ACCF and document cosponsors concerning evolving areas of clinical practice and/or technologies that are widely available or new to the practice community. Topics chosen for coverage by expert consensus documents are so designed because the evidence base, the experience with technology, and/or clinical practice are not considered sufficiently well developed to be evaluated by the formal ACCF/AHA practice guidelines process. Often the topic is the subject of considerable ongoing investigation. Thus, the reader should view the expert consensus document as the best attempt of the ACCF and document cosponsors to inform and guide clinical practice in areas where rigorous evidence may not yet be available or evidence to date is not widely applied to clinical practice. When feasible, expert consensus documents include indications or contraindications. Typically, formal recommendations are not provided in expert consensus documents as these documents do not formally grade the quality of evidence, and the provision of “Recommendations” is felt to be more appropriately within the purview of the ACCF/AHA practice guidelines. However, recommendations from ACCF/AHA practice guidelines and ACCF appropriate use criteria are presented where pertinent to the discussion. The writing committee is in agreement with these recommendations. Finally, some topics covered by expert consensus documents will be addressed subsequently by the ACCF/AHA Task Force on Practice Guidelines.
