Characterization of non-linear distortion in hearing aids using coherence analysis. A pilot study - PubMed
Coherence is a frequency-domain measure of linear dependence between input and output of a system, e.g. a hearing aid, and describes the cumulative effect of different forms of signal corruption, e.g. noise and non-linear distortion. From the coherence function, a general frequency-dependent signal- …

Sewage treatment by anaerobic biological process associated with dissolved air flotation - PubMed
This paper presents the results of a study performed with a lab-scale batch DAF unit fed with previously coagulated (with FeCl3 or cationic polymer) effluent from a pilot scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor treating domestic sewage. The adequate coagulation/flocculation conditions- …

Diagnostic and investigative approach of consultant neurologists in a real-world clinical setting: A pilot study - PubMed
Diagnostic and investigative approach of consultant neurologists in a real-world clinical setting: A pilot study - PubMed
It appears that variance in diagnostic and investigative practice between consultant neurologists exists and may result in differing management. Mean diagnostic certainty was associated with greater diagnostic peer-agreement and lower investigation rates. Metrics reflecting concordance with peers, a …

Time-frequency Analysis of Electroencephalogram Signals in a Cognitive Decision-making Task - PubMed
Choices and decisions involve a series of complex cognitive processes, and the time-frequency analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals can help understand the brain activities in different cognitive tasks. In this study, a decision-making cognitive task of rock-paper-scissors was designed, and …

Effect of Uncertainties in Parameters of Load Model on Dynamic Stability Based on Probabilistic Collocation Method | IEEE Conference Publication | IEEE Xplore
Effect of Uncertainties in Parameters of Load Model on Dynamic Stability Based on Probabilistic Collocation Method | IEEE Conference Publication | IEEE Xplore
Among the main electric components in power systems, load models have great effect on power system time- domain dynamic simulations. However, owing to the characteristics such as time-variation, randomness and so on, it is difficult to construct load model. In addition, in order to analyze the uncertainties, Monte-Carlo method is often used to estimate the probability density function of the desired output, which requires many sample data obtained from repeated simulations, therefore the uncertainty studies on power system stability are few. This paper studies the effect of the uncertainties of dynamic load proportion on power system dynamic stability based on Probabilistic Collocation Method (PCM). It could be concluded that using the proposed method the desired output is directly described as a polynomial in the uncertain parameter of the system. Consequently, high calculation accuracy could be reached by low-dimensionality polynomial functions and fewer time-domain simulations. Cases study verifies the validity of the proposed method.

Dynamic Influence of Ongoing Brain Stimulation on Resting State fMRI Connectivity: A Concurrent tDCS-fMRI Study - PubMed
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an emerging non-invasive neuromodulation technique that serves as treatment tool to neurological disorders. However, the mechanism of how the stimulation modulates ongoing brain activity and connectivity is still not fully understood. Simultaneous ac …

How do transitional objects work?: the therapist's view - PubMed
Research into the use of transitional objects (Winnicott, 1971) by adult clients in psychotherapy has given little attention to the question of how a transitional object (TO) works. This question is addressed through the use of a semi-structured interview. Data was collected on the clinical practice …
