This trendelenburg pattern is one that we see quite often in our patients.
Let's break it down 🤓
When we are standing on one leg (walking or running, for example), the hip on the standing leg side is in charge. It works together with our core to ensure that our pelvis stays relatively level.
When this hip isn't performing the way we want it to, the pelvis drops. We also see the TFL muscle (front outside of the hip) working harder than it needs to.
Our 🎯 is to regain control of the pelvis in the frontal plane and get the glutes participating. This foam roller hip hike is one of our favorite places to start.
1️⃣ Place a foam roller between your hip and the wall (a closed door works too)
2️⃣ Lift up your inner leg. Keep this leg still, don't pump the knee up and down.
3️⃣ Use your outside hip to press into the wall and roll the foam roller up the wall. Go slowly with control on the way back down.
Try it out for 10 slow reps. Repeat for 2-3 sets and go for a walk!
