Deal sets course for overhaul of private forest management in Oregon - OPB
Timber and environmental groups have reached an agreement that sets Oregon on a course to overhaul management of 10 million acres of private forestlands in the state. The deal, announced Saturday by Gov. Kate Brown’s office, concludes more than a year of negotiations between often at-odds sides to develop a plan to boost protections for vulnerable fish and wildlife while shielding the timber industry’s ability to log.

The Washington Supreme Court has been invited to change how the Department of Natural Resources manages state lands, deemphasizing logging and elevating recreation, wildlife and climate. In a case to be heard Oct. 21, Conservation Northwest and other environmental groups contend DNR acts "like a private timber company," ignoring a constitutional duty to manage land for "all the people."

Funding Available To Help North Central Oregon Land Owners Improve Forest Health – PNW AG Network
Private forestland owners in Oregon’s Wasco County are encouraged to reduce the risk of wildfire and improve their forest health with help from the NRCS. The restoration effort, called the Central Wasco County All-Lands Project, is funded by the Joint Chiefs Landscape Restoration Initiative, a partnership between NRCS and the Forest Service. The overall goal is to reduce the risk of wildfires on both public and private lands.
