Wonderful look at how Wendy and Lacey met and became BFF. I especially like the asides about Wendy's mom, and the way Noser's appearances are threaded through the whole thing.
You can exorcise demons with your mind. You spend an hour in a diner, nudging the pepper pot inch by inch across the tabletop with nothing but a frown. But not the salt. Gorgeous look at Sam and Dean during the middle of season 4.
A few cut-up pairs of old slacks, pieces of rope cinched around their waists, shirts cropped to a better length, barefoot and they’re in Bobby’s back seat, Sam saying, “Tom Sawyer,” and Dean replying, “Dude, I am Huck Finn.” Sam and Dean get regressed back to boyhood (ages 5 and 9, respectively) and Bobby takes care of them until the curse wears off. Hilarious and sweet and poignant.
"Captain's log, supplemental: today Spock made a joke. I laughed. I cried. It was magical." Hee! Reboot!Kirk ends up in the Prime!Universe. Hilarity ensues.
Gaila stands in front of a mirror and places a palm on her abdomen, and another on the small of her back - her hands, her feet, her hips, her mouth belong to other people, but her center is hers. Lovely look at Gaila.
He's not good at this; at being this kind of friend, at being there for someone else. He's not built the way he thinks he should be, body used to taking a hit and letting it show, not. Not this. Not absorbing something that's not his own doing. He grips her hand as tight as he can, and hopes that's enough. Hot and heartbreaking Kirk/girl!Bones.
There's a bar brawl and a hold up and a gorgeous, awkward perfect first time. Because Dean knows he's thinking about how fucked up this is and maybe Dean should apologize, should apologize for dragging him away from California, for starting the fight and stealing a car and holding up a pawn shop and getting him off in the front seat of Dean's car. For corrupting Sam his whole goddamn life, this perfect thing that Sam was going to be before Dean molded him into the wrong shape, got in him and fucked up all the nice things, corroded all the clean edges. (wincest)
"I don't know how to be what anybody expects -- " and Sam's hand draws a sharp head-to-toe line -- "but I was halfway to figuring out how to be me." *sniffle* Lovely story of Sam trying to be who she is, and Dean trying to deal with it. (Sam is MTF)
Sam finds a hunt that looks like vampires and turns into something more complicated. Fantastic, engrossing casefile set just before Criss Angel Is a Douchebag, full of heartbreak and wry brotherliness.
"I know we were close," he says without looking up. "We loved each other very much, didn't we?" / "Booth." / "I know this because everybody else is ready to let go and start over, but you're not." He lifts his head, apologetic. "I'm sorry I don't remember the things you find worth holding on to," he says quietly. Sniffly good Booth/Brennan in the wake of the season finale.
Sam Winchester was a tough-as-shit adult hunter, and he didn't need anyone. / Except for sometimes. Aw, Sammy. Dean is so his mommy, and sometimes you just want your mommy.
Exactly what it says on the tin. Really nice look at Dean through his relationships to guns, because they are clearly his weapon of choice. I especially like the section on the Colt.
Dead Soldiers: An Oral History of the End Times by
Fantastic story of the war between Heaven and Hell, as told by primary sources who lived through it, all of them outsider POV on Sam and Dean. Absorbing and achy. (In the style of "World War Z")
Long (78K word!) highly enjoyable AU that sets Sam and Dean in 1905 San Francisco (to start), in a steampunk universe, and retells the first season of the show (sort of). Very, very cool.
Absolutely stunning. Teen!Dean as secret pianist, but in a way that suits him and makes sense of his character. This is full of love for music, of Dean's love for Sam (and Sam's for Dean), of tragedy, and the strength to live through it. Achingly gorgeous. Highly recommended.
"Hey, if it's gonna happen, we should at least go in style." / "In a sixty seven Chevy Impala on a deserted stretch of highway in some shitkicker town, Mississippi?" / "Listening to Blind Willie Johnson." / "Listening to Blind Willie Johnson." / "Sounds about right." Dean plays the blues and Sam only hates what he loves. Sharp look at the boys post-4.22.
