Is Disneyland Or Disney World Better? Differences Between The Parks. USA TODAY
Is Disneyland Or Disney World Better? Differences Between The Parks. – USA TODAY https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/is-disneyland-or-disney-world-better-differences-between-the-parks-usa-today/
Disneyland and Disney World fans feel strongly about which destination is best.
The biggest differences are obvious, but many others are more nuanced.
Understanding those differences and accounting for personal preferences can help travelers pick the right resort for them.
If you want to start an argument among Disney fans, just ask which is better: Disneyland or Walt Disney World.
Faithful fans fiercely defend their favorites, but there is no wrong answer.
“It’s like picking a favorite child,” said Lisa Eylens, who loves both so much she became a planDisney panelist to share tips and tricks with fellow Disney guests.
There are ways, however, for travelers to figure out which destination is right for them.
“You need to consider your family and what is important to them, what attractions they might enjoy, what characters they might enjoy, how many days do you have,” Eylens said.
It also helps knowing what’s unique to each destination.
Disney World prices keep going up: Here’s why die-hard fans keep going back
Disney on a dime: How to save without sacrificing the magic
What is the difference between Disneyland and Disney World?
“To me, the biggest difference was at Disneyland, there’s much more nostalgia. There’s much more ‘This is what Walt did,'” said Ashley Ryan, a fellow planDisney panelist who grew up going to Disney World. PlanDisney panelists are not Disney cast members but park experts who apply for the advisory role and are rewarded with a Disney trip in exchange for sharing insights with fellow guests.
Disneyland is the only park Walt Disney personally opened. There, guests can see the Griffith Park bench he sat on when he first dreamed up Disneyland, slurp up Walt’s Chili at Carnation Cafe, enjoy attractions he worked on like Matterhorn Bobsleds and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, and as part of the guided Walt’s Main Street Story tour, even visit his former apartment above Town Square Fire Station.
“For a true Disney fan, If you haven’t ever been to Disneyland, you’ll really appreciate the history and the fact that that was Walt’s original dream,” said Eylens, who’s had annual passes for both Disneyland and Disney World for years. “It is a very different experience from Disney World.”
Among other differences, it’s easier to park hop at Disneyland because its two theme parks, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, are just across a plaza from each other and footsteps away from the Downtown Disney District.
Disney World is much larger and its four parks – Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom – are further apart. The Florida resort is also home to two water parks, multiple golf and miniature golf courses, ESPN Wide World of Sports and Disney Springs.
“There’s definitely more of a variety there than you would get a Disneyland,” Eylens said. “And for me, when we go to Disney World, I really love to have some time at the resort too. It’s a great way to break up the days at the parks … and it just makes it feel like a vacation, where we still get that Disney magic staying on property.”
While both Disney World and Disneyland feature accommodations, attractions, dining venues, nighttime spectaculars and other experiences unique to their location, there are a number of attractions guests can ride at both resorts, but even some of those, like Pirates of the Caribbean, are executed differently.
“I really enjoy the subtle differences,” said Ryan. When she and her husband first rode Space Mountain at Disneyland, she said, “Immediately we’re like, ‘OK, even the setup is different.’ We got to sit next to each other, where in Disney World we sit front and back. And I felt that overall the Space Mountain at Disneyland was a bit of a smoother ride.”
Disneyland also overhauls “it’s a small world” and Haunted Mansion for the holidays.
“The holiday lighting that happens at night is just amazing,” Eylens said. “Riding ‘it’s a small world’ and listening to the holiday tunes that they set in and seeing all the holiday decorations, that’s one of my favorites.”
Other differences longtime fans may notice is Disneyland still has Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, which closed at Disney World decades ago. Disney World still has Tomorrowland PeopleMover and Carousel of Progress, which moved over from Disneyland in the 1970s.
Is one day enough at Disneyland?: No, and here’s why Disney fans may want to avoid it
Is Disneyland cheaper than Disney World?
The cheapest tickets at Disneyland cost slightly less than their Disney World counterparts.
One-day, one-park tickets to Disneyland start at $104.
The starting price is $109 at Disney World.
Ticket prices fluctuate depending on time of year. The more days guests add on, the cheaper each day costs.
Disney World, Disneyland raise Genie+ prices: What to expect on your next visit
Which has more attractions, Disney World or Disneyland?
With double the theme parks and two water parks, Disney World offers more attractions overall than Disneyland.
Guests can find details on all the attractions and experiences available at Disneyland and Disney World on their respective websites.
D23 highlights: These Disneyland, Disney World additions will have fans itching to go back
Which is better, Disneyland or Disney World?
Personal preferences and core memories often dictate which parks people prefer.
#disneyworld is the only answer. Superior parks, Epcot with World showcase, classic long dark rides, DAK has the best theming in the US of any park, resorts that feel like their own mini towns, transportation systems like skyliner and monorail, water parks, Disney springs, etc https://t.co/wkkZqTfhRE
— WDWIsSuperior (@WDWbeatsDLR) October 4, 2022
Disneyland, there’s something so personal about it. It’s the only park Walt stepped in and you can feel it. Disneyworld takes those things that made Disneyland special and try’s to expand on them but lacks Disneylands intimacy and personal touch.
— Startrader72 (@JoelPettey) October 4, 2022
Even though it’s much more of a hassle to get to (flying from London) I prefer DL. Easy to enjoy as a destination in and of itself. I love WDW but it turns going on holiday into an elaborate exercise in planning and endurance.
— Iain MacKinnon (they/them) (@MacKinnonPlus) October 4, 2022
There is a reason WDW is the most visited theme parks in the world. DLand is a tiny locals hangout.
— DJthebeast (@DerekMi16322791) October 4, 2022
For Ryan and Eylens, there’s a clear winner: Disney World’s EPCOT.
“I am not even shy about it,” Ryan said. “EPCOT is my absolute favorite park. I just think that there’s really nothing like it out there. You get the rides and the food as well as all of the cultural education in the same place.”
Guests can learn about various countries like Morocco and Norway and sample their foods at EPCOT’s World Showcase. Disneyland, meanwhile, hosts cultural celebrations around Lunar New Year, Dia de Los Muertos and holidays such as Kwanzaa and Diwali.
EPCOT also boasts Disney World’s newest ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, one of Eylens’ favorites.
“I love throwing my hands up in the air and screaming, and my family is the same,” the self-described roller coaster junkie said. “That is our idea of fun.” She also loves The Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure.
The cultural magic of ‘Encanto’: How the ‘Disney’ film captures the essence of Latino families
Which one is right for you?
“You can make a really great vacation out of either,” Ryan said. “What are you trying to get out of your trip and how long would you like to spend there? What kinds of things are you looking to experience?”
Both destinations require multiple days to enjoy at a leisurely pace, but guests with tighter time constraints can experience more of Disneyland in fewer days than Disney World. Other practical considerations include airfare and other transportation costs and even weather, because rain is almost always in the forecast in Florida and rare in Southern California.
Fandoms can also be a factor. Guests who love classic Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Disney princesses, Star Wars and Pixar can get their fill at either destination, but Disney World is the only place guests will find Pandora – the World of Avatar and all the animals of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Meanwhile, Disneyland is the place to go for Avengers Campus and Cars Land.
“Cars Land is on the top of our list,” said Ryan, whose son is 4 years old. “He loves Lightning McQueen, loves Mater … Right now is like the sweet spot for ‘Cars’ for him.”
“You have to really just consider your family before you choose the coast and flights,” Eylens said.

Ukraine’s Utilities Threatened By Russia In War’s New Phase – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ukraines-utilities-threatened-by-russia-in-wars-new-phase-69news-wfmz-tv/
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — When a missile struck a power station less than a mile from his apartment on the outskirts of Kyiv, Oleksander Maystrenko didn’t panic, run to a bomb shelter or consider evacuating, even though he lives close to what suddenly has become the Russian military’s main target in the war: anything related to Ukraine’s vital infrastructure.
His neighbors also haven’t budged, despite the fact that Tuesday’s attack — marked by a loud explosion — killed three people, severely damaged two facilities inside the plant’s compound and temporarily knocked out power to about 50,000 households, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
“We aren’t afraid because we aren’t just prepared logistically; we are morally prepared,” Maystrenko said outside his apartment building, where he and two neighbors sat on a bench and smoked only hours after the attack.
This is what the latest phase of Russia’s nearly 8-month-old war in Ukraine looks like. Moscow has openly declared its intention to increasingly strike power stations, waterworks and other key infrastructure. One Ukrainian energy official said Wednesday that 40% of the country’s electric power system had been severely damaged, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian forces have destroyed 30% of Ukraine’s power stations since Oct. 10.
But Maystrenko and his neighbors say they are prepared.
If the Russians knock out the power, there are stocks of flashlights and candles, he said. If there’s no gas for stoves, he has a plan to build a rudimentary stove in front of the building’s entrance and use firewood that has been collected to heat it. Water has been bottled and jars of pickled vegetables and canned goods have been safely stored.
Everyone knows to have plenty of blankets and warm clothes for the winter, he added.
“It’s never been a secret that this power plant is a target, but we’ve been preparing since this war started,” Maystrenko said. The preparations have created a sense of community as well as a united front among neighbors, who once knew each other only in passing and are face a common enemy, he said.
The attacks have come at a critical time, with winter approaching. Klitschko said that Thursday marks the start of the heating season for Kyiv, which like most urban centers in Ukraine and even Russia uses a Soviet-era central system controlled by the city that provides heat for apartment buildings and businesses.
Following a meeting between Zelenskyy, government ministers, members of energy enterprises and some local officials, presidential adviser Kyrylo Tymoshenko said there would be power supply restrictions across Ukraine from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. beginning Thursday, along with the use of street lights being limited in some cities..
“Please take this seriously,” Tymoshenko said on his Telegram channel. “This applies to residents of ALL regions of the country. … These are forced steps. Therefore, we all work together on our front!”
One area where power and water were reported knocked out by shelling was Enerhodar, the southern city is next to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of the war’s most worrisome flashpoints. Missiles also severely damaged an energy facility near Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih in south-central Ukraine, cutting power to villages, towns and to one city district, the regional governor said.
Using energy supplies as a weapon isn’t a new tactic for the Kremlin, particularly when it comes to Ukraine.
“Energy was always quite a holy cow for the Russians, and they claim that by controlling energy they can control the country,” said Hanna Shelest, the director of security programs at Foreign Policy Council Ukrainian Prism, based in Kyiv.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who declared martial law in four illegally annexed regions of Ukraine, has used his ability to turn off the gas that passes through the country’s extensive, Soviet-era pipeline as leverage. His tactic has been used not just against the government in Kyiv, but also against energy-dependent nations in Europe, who built pipelines via the North Sea for Russian gas.
Under its new strategy, the Russian military hopes to destroy enough of Ukraine’s infrastructure to make life so intolerable that residents will blame their own government, Shelest said.
Putin has called Ukraine a failed state and a historical part of Russia. In trying to make Ukrainians suffer, he hopes they will believe him, she said.
“What we see now is that it is definitely not working so well,” Shelest said, adding that Ukrainians are increasingly directing their rage at Putin.
Zelenskyy’s admission that Russia had knocked out nearly a third of Ukraine’s power stations was noteworthy, said Mason Clark, an analyst at the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War.
“If the Russians can keep up that sustained damage, and the Ukrainians can’t repair it, that could actually start to have an effect,” he said.
Clark said he didn’t believe Russia would be able to affect the Ukrainian population’s overwhelming support for their military in taking back the territory seized by Moscow.
Recent attacks by what Kyiv describes as Iranian-supplied drones and missiles against civilian housing and other nonmilitary targets “seem to be just terror attacks, essentially to try to intimidate the Ukrainian population,” he said.
Russia has used such scare tactics throughout the war out of “a misguided belief that they will be able to force the Ukrainians to surrender and force negotiations,” Clark said.
From a military sense, Russia’s use of the Iranian-supplied drones and Kalibr and Iskander cruise missiles against Ukrainian infrastructure is a “very poor use of limited-precision munitions,” Clark said.
The Russians are struggling with dwindling supplies of these high-end weapons, he said, adding that a more strategic move would be to save them for the battlefield, because Ukraine’s air defenses have succeeded in intercepting and shooting down many of the drones.
“It’s a waste by the Russians of very expensive and limited systems in an attempt to likely achieve a terror effect that isn’t going to sway the Ukrainian government or population,” Clark said.
Repairing infrastructure often falls to local administrations to handle. The port city of Odesa in southern Ukraine designated crews to help neighboring Mykolaiv, which has been under Russian bombardment for weeks.
In the Kharkiv region, government official Roman Semenukha said Sunday that while repairs to heating systems were underway around the recently liberated city of Kupiansk, it’s a slow process that first must restore electricity, gas and water.
“I want to emphasize that private households will be connected to the gas supply, but the situation with high-rise buildings is a bit more complicated, for various reasons,” said Andrii Besedin, an adviser to the head of the Kharkiv military administration.
Regional authorities in Kharkiv also are assessing the need for firewood, Besedin said, adding that warming shelters will be set up and authorities would offer to evacuate those who want to leave for the winter.
“Those who wish to do so (will move) to safe areas, where there are all communications. We will work every day to restore the critical infrastructure of these networks,” he said.
Justin Spike contributed to this report from Kupiansk.

Breast Cancer: Five Tips From An Expert On Catching It Early And Keeping Safe The Conversation Indonesia
Breast Cancer: Five Tips From An Expert On Catching It Early And Keeping Safe – The Conversation Indonesia https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/breast-cancer-five-tips-from-an-expert-on-catching-it-early-and-keeping-safe-the-conversation-indonesia/
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the world. Every year it claims more than 650,000 lives.
Breast cancer affects more women in high-income countries like the US and the UK. But people in low- and middle-income countries, such as Nigeria, are most vulnerable. This is mainly because people in these countries seek medical help at a late stage when the disease is advanced. When breast cancer is at an advanced stage, it is harder to treat and people are more likely to die.
Nigeria, for example, has one of the highest breast cancer fatality rates. The country has seen a significant increase in the number of breast cancer cases over the past four decades. It’s currently the most commonly diagnosed cancer and one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in the country.
The deficiencies in the Nigerian healthcare system – which requires that most patients pay out-of-pocket for their own healthcare – further contributes to the poor outcomes. Some patients who get diagnosed with breast cancer are either unable to access quality healthcare or suffer catastrophic healthcare expenditure when they do so. Worryingly, most of those affected are in their forties or sometimes younger. White patients tend to be older – often in their sixties.
Breast cancer is curable, provided it is detected early and treated promptly. There are steps that one can take to minimise the risk and increase the possibility of survival.
I’m a breast cancer expert, working in south-west Nigeria. My work in breast cancer focuses on promoting early detection, creating clinical pathways for prompt evaluation and treatment, and improving treatment outcomes. Based on my experience, I outline here five things one can do to detect breast cancer early and reduce the risk of death.
Recognise breast cancer symptoms and signs
The first important thing is to be familiar with the symptoms and signs of breast cancer. This will enable you to act promptly. Here are some of the symptoms and signs to watch for:
Lump in the breast – not all breast lumps are cancerous but when you feel one seek medical help
Change in the size or shape of the breast
Dimpling or thickening of a part of the breast
Nipple changes such as retraction of the nipple inwards, deformity of the nipple or an ulcer on the nipple
Nipple discharge, particularly if bloody
Changes in the skin of the breast such as redness
Swelling in the armpit.
Seek help early
If you notice any abnormality in your breast, have your breasts examined by a specialist as soon as possible.
There are three ways in which an abnormality in your breast is evaluated: a clinical examination, breast imaging (ultrasound or mammography) and, if necessary, laboratory testing (histopathology).
Until you have been evaluated by a trained medical professional, never make assumptions about what you feel in your breast.
Take advantage of breast cancer screening
Breast cancer screening refers to tests and examinations performed on women who have no symptoms, in order to detect breast cancer very early. All women are generally encouraged to participate in screening, but it is imperative for those who are at high risk, such as those who have a family history of breast cancer. Screening can be done in a variety of ways:
Mammography: This is most appropriate if you are 40 years or older. It can be done yearly, or once every two years. It’s a specialised x-ray that examines the breasts for the presence of early signs of breast cancer which are sometimes not evident to the naked eye. It’s the standard way of screening for breast cancer globally.
Clinical breast examination: This refers to an examination by a trained health professional – like a doctor or nurse. Although not as sensitive in detecting breast cancer as mammography, it’s an option in situations where mammography isn’t accessible. It’s also recommended for women younger than 40 who may not qualify for mammography.
Self breast examination: This refers to the methodical examination of the breasts by a woman herself, looking out for the signs and symptoms I mentioned above. All women right from their twenties are encouraged to do this on a monthly basis. The aim of this is for women to be familiar with their breasts so as to easily recognise any changes that occur.
Living healthy
Healthy living can potentially reduce your risk of developing breast cancer. Certain activities have been found to contribute to the prevention of breast cancer. This is referred to as primary prevention.
These activities promote health and wellness. They include regular exercise, avoidance of a sedentary lifestyle, and weight reduction. These examples of lifestyle modifications have been proven to reduce your chances of developing breast cancer.
There are activities that are also known to raise your risk of developing breast cancer. They include smoking, excessive alcohol, and excessive eating of fatty foods.
Beware of misinformation
Watch out for information circulated on social media. While some information flying around the social space is true, there are several myths and falsehoods about breast cancer.
Many of these are perpetuated by people who have no training in the treatment of the disease. For instance, I’ve heard of rumours that breast cancer can develop because women have kept money in their bras, or because a breastfeeding baby bit the mother’s breast. These rumours are untrue. It is also often said that a woman will die if she undergoes treatment or surgical operation for breast cancer. This is untrue too. Some also claim that supplements can cure breast cancer. To date, there is no evidence in science to support this claim.
Myths like these are unfounded. People lose their lives because of poor counsel from people who are not trained cancer experts.
We can beat breast cancer by living a healthy life, knowing the facts and taking the right decisions.

The exterior of the Reeves apartment building on West Market Street in Warren. The building is under contract to be sold to out-of-state investors.
WARREN — The well-known, but vacant and rundown, Reeves apartment building downtown is under contract to be sold to out-of-state investors.
“It is for sale. It is under contract. It has gone through an extensive diligence period, and the seller and the buyers have done a significant amount of work to bring it to fruition,” Don Thomas, a Realtor with Platz Realty, said. “And I believe that we are in a place where it will close sometime in the next 30 to 40 days.”
Diligence closes Oct. 31, “and all indications are it’s going to move to closing.” Platz, however, is accepting backup offers.
Thomas could not provide further details on the pending transaction or the buyers’ plans because of a nondisclosure agreement.
The building, located at 295 W. Market St., anchors the southeast end of what’s commonly referred to as the peninsula — a stretch of land named that way because the Mahoning River wraps around it. The land that stretches to South Street is largely vacant and is prime for redevelopment, something the city has wanted for years through a combination of housing and retail.
Warren owns a small piece of land where West Market and South streets meet. Everything else, like the Reeves building, is either privately owned or owned by Warren Redevelopment and Planning, which controls about five acres that was once a Chevrolet dealership.
According to the Trumbull County Auditor’s Office, a company named Ohio Property Portfolio 2019 Series C owns the Reeves complex. The company, which formed in 2019 according to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, acquired the building and one acre it sits on for $610,000 in 2019 from Sikora Properties LLC.
Sikora Properties purchased it in 2017 for $85,000 from East End RD Burton Inc., according to the auditor’s office.
The 45,000-square-foot building was built in 1926 and remodeled in 1968. It also has space for retail on the ground floor.
Ohio Property Portfolio also owns Pauni Apartments in Cortland. The company acquired the complex in 2019.
It was in 2019 when the investors from Los Angeles who bought the Reeves and their company, Modern On, planned to turn the building into a high-end apartment complex with commercial space on the first floor.
But the partnership broke up, said Mike Keys, director of Warren’s Community Development office. The building has been vacant since 2020, when the tenants were relocated so renovations could get underway, but the improvements never happened.
Keys said he would like to see the new owners develop higher-end apartments there, especially with a need for housing in Warren.
“We have a lot of need, especially with what is happening in Lordstown,” Keys said. “People are taking jobs at Foxconn, etc., and we are going to need housing available.”

Global: Taxes Become More Complex When Entering The Metaverse Lexology
Global: Taxes Become More Complex When Entering The Metaverse – Lexology https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/global-taxes-become-more-complex-when-entering-the-metaverse-lexology/
Key takeaways
The metaverse ecosystem is attracting businesses across industries and is no longer limited to companies with an existing in-depth presence in the digital space.
When exploring a move to the metaverse, it is prudent for companies to carefully consider the tax implications of both indirect taxes, such as VAT and sales tax, and direct taxes at the onset.
While digital developments always evolve much faster than tax laws can ever adapt, there are areas of opportunities to be at the forefront of doing business in the metaverse environment.
In depth
More and more companies are either building or considering building a presence in a metaverse. As metaverses continue to develop, they’re blending online multiplayer gaming, cryptocurrency, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and virtual reality into a new immersive digital experience for their users.
While metaverses initially seemed to attract companies with an existing in-depth presence in the digital space, a significant number of retail companies and fashion brands are gradually moving toward the metaverse. They see opportunities for new sales for both digital and physical “goods” as well as new interactive advertising opportunities, such as collaborations with gaming platforms that create personalized experiences.
Whether it’s fashion brands that sell digital accessories or clothes to dress up avatars (sometimes even creating both a digital and physical product), car brands that facilitate a personalized mode of online transport, or even music artists that perform online, there is always a tax angle that should be taken into account. While indirect taxes such as VAT and sales tax will be at the forefront of these developments, one should also carefully consider the potential direct tax consequences right from the start.
In this article, we aim to provide a non-exhaustive overview of some high-level tax aspects to consider when expanding into the metaverse ecosystem.
Indirect Tax
Retail brands generally sell physical goods to their customers; however, digital products such as NFTs, skins, and avatar accessories may, for EU VAT purposes, be regarded as a provision of electronic services, which potentially brings a different set of VAT rules to the table.
Companies should therefore take into account that physical wholesale operations may change to digital retail operations in a metaverse. For example, instead of having an international wholesale channel to local physical shops in a country where only local VAT rates are charged, identifying the physical location of all your virtual customers becomes important. The reason for this is that every sale potentially triggers the requirement at a headquarters level to remit VAT to the respective jurisdiction in which that customer is located.
Additionally, new business concepts such as virtual metaverse-based marketplaces will have to deal with tax legislation that is not yet updated to account for these developments. As a result, undesirable consequences such as the risk of accumulation of VAT may occur if transactions between private users take place on these platforms. This can happen, for example, when (re)selling unique “second-hand” digital goods—a concept that was simply not possible before NFTs were introduced.
Current VAT deemed reseller rules (as laid out in Article 9a of the EU VAT Implementing Regulation 2011/282) still seem to apply/extend to resales of digital goods where they’ve been previously sold to private users and are resold via such virtual marketplaces. Right now, accumulation can’t be avoided by using margin scheme rules for the sale of second-hand goods, as Article 316(1) of the VAT directive states that the margin scheme doesn’t apply to the sale of services and, therefore, not to digital products.
Direct Tax
A company moving into a metaverse environment should be aware that its actions may have direct tax consequences as well. For example, a company that buys or rents virtual real estate in a metaverse in exchange for cryptocurrencies may realize a taxable gain on its cryptocurrency, depending on the tax legislation of the jurisdiction in which the company is a tax resident. If a company decides to develop its own NFTs and sell those in a metaverse—such as a fashion company selling unique branded clothes which can be worn by an avatar—any gain realized on an increase of value of the relevant NFT may also be taxed along with the cryptocurrencies the company receives in return.
An important question to consider is at what time these gains become taxable. Is it at the moment of the virtual transaction? Or is it at the moment that the cryptocurrency is converted into euros or dollars? It may even be that a certain increase in value is taxed annually, based on the value at a certain moment during the year or the average value over the year. At what time a taxable event may arise therefore depends entirely on where the entity is a tax resident.
In practice, one should carefully consider where to set up the business entity that will operate in a metaverse and to determine this before the business is commenced to avoid lengthy exit tax discussions with tax authorities.
The entity, however, may not only be taxed where it is a tax resident. Part of the profits may also be taxed in jurisdictions where employees carry out their activities, depending on where developers/employees carry them out. One should therefore carefully consider what kind of activities employees carry out abroad for the entity.
A last point of attention is the transfer pricing aspects of selling combined products, such as selling clothes in the real world to which an NFT is attached that an avatar in a metaverse can use. In those cases, the actual sale of the item may be done by a company who is a tax resident in the US, for example, while the company developing the NFT is a tax resident of the UAE. In such cases, one should determine how much profit should be allocated to the US tax resident company, and how much should be allocated to the UAE tax resident company.
Of course, selling combined products also potentially carries a significant indirect tax impact—not only from a place of supply point of view but also whether a single supply or multiple supplies take place.
Conclusion
As digital developments always evolve much faster than tax laws, more questions can be raised than answers can be given when it comes to transactions inside the metaverse ecosystem and the on-ramping/off-ramping of funds into the “real” world. While in the short term, this lack of legal clarity can be challenging, this also creates opportunities to work proactively with tax authorities and be on the forefront of doing business in the metaverse environment.

SALADO — Troopers from the 3rd Cavalry Regiment joined the City of Salado and the Salado Public Library for the Touch a Truck event on Friday at the Salado Public Library parking lot to help build community partnerships.
“The reason we have it is just so the kids can kind get to see the police car fire engines and military vehicles up close and personal,” said April Gatliff, Youth assistant at Salado Public Library. “Most of them only get to see it in passing, and they’re fascinated by it. So, this is just a chance for them to come out here and see it up close.”
The Killer Troop Thunder Squadron 3rd Cav. Regt. made the event possible, by bringing a Stryker fighting vehicle and a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. The Static display of vehicles allowed children and adults to ask questions about first responders and military vehicles. Everyone could explore military equipment up close, sit behind the wheel and play with the numerous levers and gadgets around the vehicle.
“It’s definitely a huge honor,” said Staff Sgt. Alexander McCampbell, Killer Troop, 3rd Sqdn., 3rd Cav. Regt. “It’s really fun to be able to show all these kids this and get them a little bit excited about what we do every day and what we used to do.”
McCampbell, an infantryman, explained him and his Soldiers do this every day, but these kids don’t, so I think they are very happy to be able to see these vehicles.
For many of the children, it was the first time they had ever seen such equipment up close. The event was a great success, providing children and adults with valuable information about first responders and military vehicles.
Eight-year-old Michael Giganti, his older sister Angelina, 11, and their young sister Sofia, 4, had the chance to pretend to drive the Stryker fighting vehicle and a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. They said they enjoyed the event.
“I liked it a lot it was cool,” Michael said. “We got to push all the buttons and sit in the front.”
Events like this serve as one of the many ways for Soldiers to demonstrate their commitment to Fort Hood’s partner communities. It helps build positive relationships with the people they serve and is essential in helping to maintain a strong sense of community between Fort Hood and its surrounding communities.
“I didn’t expect them to bring such cool, awesome-looking vehicles,” Gatliff said. “The Soldiers have been great, they helped us with crowd control in the parking lot, and the kids are just so pumped to see them.”

Customers of bankrupt crypto lender Voyager Digital may be able to recover 72% of the value of their accounts under a tentative deal with FTX US, according to court documents.
However, United States bankruptcy judge Michael Wiles during a court hearing said the tentative sale would not be final until it receives the approval of Voyager’s creditors and he approves the bankruptcy payout plan, saying during the court hearing:
“If the plan falls apart, there’s no part of this agreement that survives.”
There is also the inclusion of a clause called a “fiduciary out,” which allows Voyager to cancel the deal with FTX should any offers be presented that offer a better outcome for creditors.
The clause is often included in bankruptcy cases, allowing companies to consider higher offers until the sale is finalized to ensure creditors get the best deal possible.
Voyager had previously hinted that its customers may eventually transition to the FTX platform after the exchange had secured the winning bid on Sept. 27 at a valuation of approximately $1.4 billion following a two-week bidding process.
The tentative plan from FTX would enable all priority claims to be paid out in full and allow other account holders to recover approximately 72% of the value of their accounts, which have been frozen since July 1.

The figure doesn’t include funds it may recoup as part of its claim against Three Arrows Capital (3AC) after the crypto hedge fund had defaulted on its loan repayments to Voyager.
Any additional funds received as part of this claim will allow Voyager account holders to recover a greater percentage of their frozen accounts.
Voyager had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 4 due to liquidity issues following the default of crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital.
Voyager said the bid from FTX US was made up of the fair market value of its crypto holdings as of a to-be-determined date, which as of Sept. 26 is estimated at $1.3 billion, as well as additional consideration of at least $111 million.

U.S. Has Viewed Wreckage Of Kamikaze Drones Russia Used In Ukraine – The Washington Post https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-has-viewed-wreckage-of-kamikaze-drones-russia-used-in-ukraine-the-washington-post/
The U.S. government has examined the wreckage of Iranian-made drones shot down in Ukraine, deepening its insight into the unmanned craft that Russia has launched in a spate of kamikaze attacks on the country’s critical infrastructure, according to two U.S. officials.
Information about the drones’ structure and technology could prove crucial in helping the United States and its Ukrainian allies better identify and ultimately defeat them before they can reach their targets. Officials said the process has been used in the past to study weaponry deployed by Iran’s proxies in conflicts in the Middle East. People interviewed for this report spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence collection.
The Shahed-136 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used in this week’s attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, have targeted power stations and other utilities, killing at least four, authorities there have said. Their use by Russian forces has underscored the growing ties between Moscow and Tehran, alarming Western leaders whose sanctions and other punitive economic measures have drastically undercut the Kremlin’s ability to regenerate its military after eight months of war.
The Iranian-made drones are being launched from three Russian military bases in Crimea and another position in Belarus, a Ukrainian official said. Tehran has dispatched advisers to Russian-controlled areas, where they have provided operators with technical instruction.
It is unclear how the United States gained access to the drone wreckage, though the Pentagon coordinates closely with Ukraine’s military and maintains a small administrative presence at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. That team is led by a one-star Army general.

The Shahed is a large, lumbering aircraft that flies very low and appears to have few metallic parts, making it difficult to detect with radars and other sensors before reaching its target. Examination of the wreckage may help overcome those challenges.
The drones’ points of origin pose another challenge, the Ukrainian official said: They are too far for U.S.-supplied rocket artillery to strike, blunting options for destroying the aircraft before they are airborne.
Ukraine, which says it has destroyed more than 220 Shahed-136 drones since Sept. 13, appears to be studying the platform, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur told reporters this week. Pevkur said it was of regional urgency to learn about the aircraft.
“We all have to understand that we all have to put our efforts to that. To understand how it works, and to understand how to take it down,” he said. “Because it’s not only the question of Ukraine at war at the moment, but it’s a question of all of us who are in the situation where we are.”
Iran produces a variety of drones and has reportedly supplied them to Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthi rebels in Yemen, among other groups. The Pentagon believes Iran-allied forces have used them against U.S. military personnel in Syria, including in an August attack at the U.S.-run base at Tanf.
The Houthis claimed to have used Samad-3 drones to attack a refinery in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last spring, and launched Samad-1 drones at Saudi Aramco facilities in other parts of the country. Those drones are distinct from the weapons used by Russia in Ukraine.
In February, the United Arab Emirates was hit by several drone and missile attacks claimed by the Houthis. In a military parade last month in Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, the Houthis reportedly displayed a local version of the Shahed-136.
Ukraine has asked the United Nations to examine the wreckage, to determine the aircraft’s country of origin. In a letter dated Friday, Ukraine’s U.N. ambassador invited “U.N. experts to visit Ukraine at the earliest possible opportunity to inspect recovered Iran-origin drones.” The letter maintained that Iranian transfers of the drones would violate both U.N. sanctions against Iran and terms of the 2015 U.N. Security Council resolution on the Iran nuclear deal that year.
The Council held a closed-door meeting Wednesday to hear “an expert briefing … on recent evidence that Russia illegally procured Iranian UAVs that it is using in its war on Ukraine,” Nate Evans, spokesperson for the American U.N. mission, said in a statement after the session. “These UAVs were transferred from Iran to Russia in open violation of provisions” of the resolution approving the nuclear deal Iran signed with world powers.
Earlier this week, France and Britain — signers of the deal along with Iran, the United States, Germany, Russia and China — echoed Ukrainian charges that sending the drones to Russia violated a provision prohibiting Iran from transferring unmanned aerial vehicles with a range of more than 300 kilometers (186.4 miles) unless it had specific permission from the council.
“As was outlined during today’s meeting,” the statement from Evans said, “there is ample evidence that Russia is using Iranian-made UAVS” in its attacks on Ukraine. “By procuring these weapons in violation of U.N. Security Council Resolutions, Russia continues to flout international law in its pursuit of a senseless and brutal war.”
The statement did not indicate any immediate action would be taken, although Evans said “we anticipate this will be the first of many conversations at the U.N. on how to hold Iran and Russia accountable for failing to comply with U.N. Security Council-imposed obligations.”
The Shahed loiters in the air until it identifies a target, often a fixed position, and then dives into it, detonating onboard explosives. Unlike bigger reusable drones that fire missiles and return to a base, it flies low and slow.
Ukrainians call it “the lawn mower” because of the loud buzzing sound it makes. The distinct noise has served as a warning of its approach, allowing people to scramble for cover and brace for the explosion, which is smaller than the impact caused by conventional ballistic missiles.
The drones pose a significant problem, analysts say. Many defensive systems capable of defeating them are costly, are designed mostly for bigger threats like jets and helicopters, and take months or years to produce, limiting how many can be distributed and forcing military planners to prioritize sites deemed most vulnerable.
While Ukrainian air defenses have shown some success against the drones, even a few slipping through can cause havoc, said Samuel Bendett, an expert on the Russian military at CNA, a research group. “It’s a demonstration of Russian capability, and now they have cheap plentiful weapons that can constantly remind Ukrainians that their skies are not 100 percent safe,” he said....

China Holds Emergency Talks With Chip Firms After U.S. Curbs -Bloomberg News – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/china-holds-emergency-talks-with-chip-firms-after-u-s-curbs-bloomberg-news-reuters/
Oct 20 (Reuters) – China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology convened a series of emergency meetings over the past week with leading semiconductor companies, seeking to assess the damage from the U.S. chip restrictions, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday.
The ministry summoned executives from firms including Yangtze Memory Technologies Co (YMTC) and supercomputer specialist Dawning Information Industry Co (603019.SS) to attend closed-door meetings, the report said.
This month the Biden administration passed a sweeping set of export controls aimed at slowing Beijing’s technological and military advances, including sales restrictions on certain advanced chips and chip equipment tools.

Experts have said the new rules will have a broad impact, slowing China’s efforts to develop its own chip industry and advance commercial and state research involving military weapons, artificial intelligence, data centres and many other areas that are powered by supercomputers and high-end chips.
According to the Bloomberg report, many of the participants at the meetings argued that the U.S. curbs spell doom for their industry, as well as China’s ambitions to untether its economy from American technology.
YMTC, Dawning and the industry ministry did not immediately reply to Reuters’ requests for comment.
On Sunday, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for his country to “win the battle” in core technologies in his full work report as he kicked off the once-every-five-years Communist Party Congress.
Experts have said the work report could signal an overhaul in Beijing’s approach to advancing its tech industry, with more state-led spending and intervention to counter U.S. pressures.

Long Court Vacations relic Of Colonial Era Violate Litigants Rights Says Plea In Bombay High Court The Indian Express
Long Court Vacations ‘relic Of Colonial Era’, Violate Litigants’ Rights, Says Plea In Bombay High Court – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/long-court-vacations-relic-of-colonial-era-violate-litigants-rights-says-plea-in-bombay-high-court-the-indian-express/
A writ petition has been moved by one Sabina Lakdawala in the Bombay High Court claiming that the courts taking vacations, including during Diwali, is a violation of the fundamental rights of citizens as the litigants’ right to avail justice is affected by such long vacations.
Lakdawala, in her plea filed through advocate Mathews Nedumpara, sought a declaration that closing courts for more than 70 days for any kind of vacation is a violation of the fundamental rights of litigants and the same should come to an end.
The plea sought that the high court is kept fully functional during the upcoming Diwali vacation, an adequate number of judges be made available to hear all the cases, and not just urgent cases heard by vacation benches, and that directions be issued to the high court registry to receive all petitions without insisting on permission from the vacation bench.
Lakdawala claimed that the court had failed to hear her private plea despite several requests for an urgent hearing and the same was because of the paucity of time due to high pendency and long court holidays contributed to the same.
“The long vacations that are a relic of the colonial era have to a greater extent contributed to the further collapse of the justice delivery system that is already on ventilation. The long vacation suits the convenience of elite lawyers, a microscopic minority,” the petition said.
The plea is likely to be mentioned on Thursday.
“Court vacation, a relic of our colonial past, was justified at a time when the majority of the judges were Englishmen, who were not adjusted to the extreme summers of India, and they needed long vacations to travel by sea to England. It was a necessity then, today, it is a luxury that the country can ill afford,” the petition argued.
Lakdawala said while the judges and lawyers need breaks, keeping the same limited to weekends and gazetted holidays will serve the purpose.

Let’s begin. Tough rules of origin for alcoholic drinks may turn out to be a sticky point in the ongoing negotiations for the India-UK free trade agreement. While the UK is pushing for relaxed rules of origin for its liquor industry, New Delhi wants 35-40% domestic value addition for any such items to be eligible for concessional duties, sources told FE. Moreover, India will likely settle for a phased reduction of the hefty 150% import duty on alcoholic beverages, beyond a price threshold, for the UK if it gets attractive counter-offers. Greater market access for Scotch and other alcoholic beverages is a key area of interest for the UK. One of the sources said that if 40% value addition becomes the benchmark, maybe only Scotch makers will be able to fulfil this condition for concessional access to the Indian market. Many other British liquor items may fail on this front, given the integrated nature of the supply chain where raw materials are sourced from other countries. Meanwhile, the Competition Commission of India on Wednesday imposed hefty penalties of more than Rs 392 crore on online travel aggregators MakeMyTrip, Goibibo and hospitality firm OYO for indulging in unfair and anti-competitive business practices. According to a 131-page order passed by the regulator on Wednesday, a penalty of Rs 223.48 crore was imposed on MakeMyTrip and Goibibo merged entities (MMT-Go) and an additional Rs 168.88 crore on OYO. The penalties were slapped on both the companies for indulging in anti-competitive practices by invoking their leadership position in the online hotel booking market. In a statement, OYO said it is currently “reviewing” the CCI order in detail and that it would continue to work with all online travel aggregators as distribution partners. Moving on. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has asked all insurance companies providing health insurance to confirm compliance with regulations to cover mental illness by all insurance products before October 31. Issuing a circular, Irdai has reiterated that all insurance products shall cover mental illness and comply with the provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 without any deviation. The Act came into force with effect from May 5, 2018. According to the Act, every insurer shall make provision for medical insurance for treatment of mental illness on the same basis as is available for treatment of physical illness. The insurance regulator in August 2018 had directed all insurance companies to comply with the provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act with immediate effect. The insurance regulator has also said it is observed that many health insurance products that are marketed by insurers are not providing cover to newborns/infants with internal congenital birth defects from day one, thus going against the “true spirit” of the guidelines. On to some 5G related updates. After launching its private 5G global centre of excellence last month, Tata Communications is now ready with its 5G offerings. Having seen interest from some enterprises for its 5G offerings, the company believes that the penetration of 5G will speed up as clients start realising the potential of good return on investments from it. Kabir Ahmed Shakir, chief financial officer of Tata Communications told FE in an interaction that they are ready with their proof of concepts of 5G solutions and with their use cases. he also said that the penetration of 5G also depends on the customer organisations maturity to adopt and their ability to also solution them and demonstrate a good return on investments for the customer in order to facilitate and speed up their own decision making. The Tata Group company offers end-to-end connectivity solutions to enterprises and sees 5G as a medium to boost its current portfolio of offerings spread across data platforms and services, next generation connectivity, internet of things, media and entertainment services, among other key verticals. In other news, ahead of the long Diwali weekend, airfares across destinations have gone through the roof, with the Mumbai-Delhi route — the busiest in India — even reporting a total sellout of non-stop flights. Fares have jumped two to three times the normal level on non-leisure destinations and up to four to five times on holiday destinations, according to data from travel companies for the weekend. While Diwali traditionally sees high consumer air traffic, travel companies acknowledge that the fare increase seen this year is unprecedented. Compared with last year’s Diwali, this year’s fares are a minimum two times higher. October 20 has emerged as the most popular travel date to Delhi from Mumbai as IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has reported a total sellout for the date. All direct flights of Vistara, the country’s second-biggest airline by market share, are sold out for the same date, while fares for other flights with one stoppage range around `20,000 to `50,000. All non-stop flights from Mumbai to Delhi of Tata Group-owned Air India are sold out for October 20.

What Are Wellness Benefits In Health Insurance? Outlook India
What Are Wellness Benefits In Health Insurance? – Outlook India https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/what-are-wellness-benefits-in-health-insurance-outlook-india/
Wellness benefits in health insurance come in the form of wellness points that can be encashed either as concessions on premium payments or in the form of membership benefits at any empaneled organization. These wellness-oriented health insurance policies target making individuals proactive towards healthy living.
According to recent IRDAI guidelines on wellness and preventive features, the insurers are asked to incentivize the insured who is eligible for the reward points and fits well with the wellness criteria.
Several software and tools are available today to track a person’s health. However, given the busy schedule and the stress, it sometimes becomes challenging to do that. So it is when wellness benefits come to use as this ensures optimum utilization as policyholders are encouraged to take their health seriously in return for rewards and benefits.
Explains Rakesh Goyal, director of Probus Insurance Broker: “Health insurers include different wellness benefits under their health insurance plans to stand out from other insurers and encourage the policyholders to choose a healthy lifestyle. Such wellness benefits are added to increase the market competition and, at the same time, drive the customers’ needs. The wellness benefits under the health plan come in the form of points, also known as wellness points or reward points.”
Here are some of the wellness benefits in health insurance offered by the insurers:
Reward points to promote a healthy lifestyle: You could use these rewards to avail discounts for different medical tests and check-ups at all diagnostic centers and network hospitals. Moreover, you could redeem the points to avail of membership at a lower rate at various wellness centers like yoga institutes, gyms, etc.
A personal wellness coach: Many insurers provide a wellness coach or mentor under the wellness program. “The coach mentors the insured person on his dietary intake, exercise routine, nutrition balance, quitting smoking habits, maintaining a good BMI index, and much more. The coach sets targets to be achieved. On achieving the targets, the insured gets redeemable points as above,” says Bhaskar Nerurkar, head of the health administration team at Bajaj Allianz General Insurance.
Second medical opinion: Certain health plans come with the benefit of providing a second medical opinion wellness benefit.
“Under this feature, in case of any chronic or severe medical concern, the insured can seek a second medical opinion. This second opinion is not chargeable for the insured. But one needs to clearly understand that no insurance company is responsible for any error arising in the medical opinion,” adds Nerurkar.
Exciting concessions on renewal: The availability of exciting concessions on wellness benefit plans encourages the insured to keep track of his healthy living. Moreover, these wellness benefits are available without paying anything extra to the insurance company. Also, there is no need to enroll yourself separately in the wellness program plan. Instead, the insured gets enrolled from the day he or his family gets insured under the family health insurance or individual.
However, all these benefits highly depend on the choice of insurer, as it varies from one insurer to another. “It is highly suggested to read all the information and policy documents well in advance to avoid any unpleasant surprises later,” adds Goyal.

Japan’s Konami Seeks To Hire Talents To Advance Web 3, Metaverse, And NFT Efforts – CoinGeek https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/japans-konami-seeks-to-hire-talents-to-advance-web-3-metaverse-and-nft-efforts-coingeek/
Home » Business » Japan’s Konami seeks to hire talents to advance Web 3, metaverse, and NFT efforts
Japanese gaming giant Konami has disclosed that it is hiring experts versed in the digital assets industry as it looks to incorporate Web 3 elements in its games.
Per the announcement, the firm says it will be “recruiting a wide range of talent for system construction and service development to provide new experiences such as Web 3 and the metaverse.” The available roles cut across areas of Business Development, Project Management, Legal, and Accounting, with new hires facing the possibility of being transferred to one of Konami Group’s corporations.
Konami revealed that it had been researching blockchain technology and its role in gaming. Under the research, the gaming firm decided to create a non-fungible token (NFT) trading platform to allow players to trade their in-game digital collectibles for money.
“NFTs can be used in-game as items, as well as participate in fan communities and events, and interact with other series and communities to further expand the user experience,” read Konami’s report.
Applicants that scale through the hiring process will join the team in developing a “unique digital item distribution platform” in line with the Japanese regulatory framework. Konami is the name behind titles like the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Castlevania, Pro Evolution Soccer, and Froggy.
Konami is no stranger to NFTs, having made an incursion into the niche back in January by launching digital collectibles to mark the 36th year anniversary of the Castlevania franchise. The collection was made up of GIFs of portions of the gameplay, while the rest was made of the game’s maps.
The dip in NFT activity is worrying
Konami’s push into NFTs is coming at a precarious time for the asset class, given the decline in transaction volumes. At the start of the year, NFT trading volumes were at 17 billion, and the figure fell to $466 million in October, which represents a 90% fall in activity.
“The fading NFT mania is part of a wider, $2 trillion wipeout in the crypto sector as rapidly tightening monetary policy starves speculative assets of investment flows,” Bloomberg said.
The decision by some large gaming companies to launch digital collectibles has been met with deafening criticisms. Ubisoft’s attempt at NFTs Quartz received backlash from the gaming community, while Nicolas Pouard, VP at the firm’s Strategic Innovation Labs, defended the offering by stating that “gamers don’t get what a digital secondary market can bring to them,”
Despite the fall in NFT trading volumes and the lethargic start of Ubisoft’s foray, Konami can turn the tides in its favor by learning from the shortcomings of its predecessors.

October’s monthly Gran Turismo 7 update arrives tomorrow, and it brings four new cars — one more than usual — though, disappointingly, no new track. At least the cars are pretty solid.
Leading the charge is the “Kenmeri” Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R — the second-gen GT-R, based on the KPGC110 Skyline. The previous KPGC10 GT-R is already in the game, as are all the versions of Nissan’s flagship sports coupe that would follow, so this completes the family. This GT-R was notably built only for the 1973 model year, and just 197 exist.

The next-oldest in the group is the 1980 Maserati Merak SS — a car known for, among other things, being central to one of Top Gear’s most classic moments. Unlike that “SS,” this one is a real SS, with all of its advertised 217 horsepower from the factory. It joins the 2008 GranTurismo S and 1954 A6GCS/53 Spyder as the only other cars from the Italian marque in the game.

The other two additions are a little less exciting, because they’re built off cars already in the roster. The Mazda Roadster NR-A is a cool, club-racer take on the ND, with a roll cage, racing seats and harness. This MX-5 boasts an attractive livery, too, bearing the new Mazda Sprit Racing insignia we all began to notice last year. Rounding out the quarter is yet another GT3-class Nissan GT-R — a post-facelift chassis with the double-wishbone suspension and revised cooling system that Nismo introduced in 2018.
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment
It’s reasonable to expect that this update will carry some additional events and Menu Books, as most do. But what it notably lacks is a new track or configuration for a preexisting one, which would be nice at this point in GT7’s post-release life. Frankly, meaningful updates feel as through they’re starting to dry up; the game didn’t have enough events at launch and could always use more, and the ability to sell cars, a feature requested by users since day one and officially teased in March, is still missing even though those who have snooped around the game’s files say it’s ready. A user by the name of Nenkai on Twitter, one such researcher, hinted at the possibility of Grand Valley Speedway making a return in the near future.
If Grand Valley — a circuit that dates back to the very first Gran Turismo, just like Trial Mountain and Deep Forest — is in fact coming back, it’s possible developer Polyphony Digital is holding onto that announcement until the World Final of the 2022 Gran Turismo World Series, which is scheduled for the weekend of November 25.
Credit: rynogt4 via YouTube
This is all speculation of course — both the very existence of Grand Valley in GT7 and the theoretical timing of its reveal. Polyphony has delivered fan-favorite tracks during its big esports gatherings before, like when it introduced Spa-Francorchamps in GT Sport during the New York round in 2019.
We’ll have to wait and see about Grand Valley, but you can look forward to the aforementioned four cars to drop along with patch 1.25 at 2 a.m. Eastern on Friday. During that time, the game will go down for maintenance for roughly two hours, so you won’t be able to enjoy the new content — or, indeed, the vast majority of GT7 — until the servers are back online.

‘Secretly Circulating’ Draft Crypto Bill Could Be A ‘boon’ To DeFi – Cointelegraph https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/secretly-circulating-draft-crypto-bill-could-be-a-boon-to-defi-cointelegraph/
A crypto bill that industry advocates previously said would “kill DeFi” has seen an updated draft released online with one commentator saying the U.S. is “finally getting their act together.”

A new draft of the Digital Commodities Consumer Protection Act (DCCPA) bill has started to circulate online, with some commentary suggesting it could be positive for decentralized finance (DeFi) and crypto.
A prior draft version of the bill drew heavy criticism from industry representative bodies for containing too broad a definition for a “digital commodity platform,” which “could be interpreted as a ban on decentralized finance (DeFi).”
In a newly posted 31-page draft bill, shared by Delphi Labs general counsel Gabriel Shapiro, the lawyer said he made the draft bill publicly available as he believes in “transparency and open discussion.”
Shapiro remarked on a section amending the meaning of a “digital commodity trading facility” which excluded persons who develop or publish software, commenting that it “could be a boon” to DeFi and crypto.
Notably, this version contains a limited exception to the term “digital commodity trading facility” which would exclude persons who solely develop or publish software–this could be a boon to DeFi/crypto. pic.twitter.com/0pa843RJ9h

Dr. Martin Hiesboeck head of research at crypto exchange UpHold tweeted that the newly released draft seems to follow similar regulations in the European Union and the United Kingdom, suggesting that the United States is “finally getting their act together.”
First impression: leaked #CFTC Bill seems to follow UK/EU reg in broad strokes even though it uses similar somewhat different terminology. Will prepare a detailed report by tomorrow. US finally getting their act together. All good.
— Dr Martin Hiesboeck (@MHiesboeck) October 19, 2022
The comments are a change of tone from the previous version of the bill, which was described by Web3 incubator and advocacy group Alliance DAO as one that “kills DeFi.”
The decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) wrote the bill “creates a compliance architecture that precludes the concept of a system of smart contracts operating decentralized infrastructure with little or no reliance on human activity,” as it required people to enforce compliance with the regulations.

There have long been calls for regulatory clarity regarding digital assets in the U.S. with some calling on the U.S. Congress to pass legislation defining commodities and give jurisdiction to the CFTC.
First introduced in August the DCCPA extends the regulatory power of the Commodities Future Trading Commission (CFTC) on the cryptocurrency industry and attempts to define certain cryptos, such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) as commodities rather than securities.

DETROIT, Oct 19 (Reuters) – Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS), Korea’s top automaker, is investigating child labor violations in its U.S. supply chain and plans to “sever ties” with Hyundai suppliers in Alabama found to have relied on underage workers, the company’s global chief operating officer Jose Munoz told Reuters on Wednesday.
A Reuters investigative report in July documented children, including a 12-year-old, working at a Hyundai-controlled metal stamping plant in rural Luverne, Alabama, called SMART Alabama, LLC.
Following the Reuters report, Alabama’s state Department of Labor, in coordination with federal agencies, began investigating SMART Alabama. Authorities subsequently launched a child labor probe at another of Hyundai’s regional supplier plants, Korean-operated SL Alabama, finding children as young as age 13.

In an interview before a Reuters event in Detroit on Wednesday, Munoz said Hyundai intends to “sever relations” with the two Alabama supplier plants under scrutiny for deploying underage labor “as soon as possible.”
In addition, Munoz told Reuters he had ordered a broader investigation into Hyundai’s entire network of U.S. auto parts suppliers for potential labor law violations and “to ensure compliance.”
Munoz’s comments represent the Korean automotive giant’s most substantive public acknowledgment to date that child labor violations may have occurred in its U.S. supply chain, a network of dozens of mostly Korean-owned auto-parts plants that supply Hyundai’s massive vehicle assembly plant in Montgomery, Alabama.
Hyundai’s $1.8 billion flagship U.S. assembly plant in Montgomery produced nearly half of the 738,000 vehicles the automaker sold in the United States last year, according to company figures.
The executive also pledged that Hyundai would push to stop relying on third party labor suppliers at its southern U.S. operations.
As Reuters reported, migrant children from Guatemala found working at SMART Alabama, LLC and SL Alabama had been hired by recruiting or staffing firms in the region. In a statement to Reuters this week, Hyundai said it had already stopped relying on at least one labor recruiting firm that had been hiring for SMART.
Munoz told Reuters: “Hyundai is pushing to stop using third party labor suppliers, and oversee hiring directly.”
Munoz did not offer further detail into how long Hyundai’s probe of its U.S. supply chain would take, when Hyundai or any partner plants could end their dependence on third party staffing firms for labor, or when Hyundai could end commercial relationships with two existing Alabama suppliers investigated for child labor violations by U.S. authorities.
In a statement on Wednesday, SL Alabama said it had taken “aggressive steps to remedy the situation” as soon it learned a subcontractor had provided underage workers. It terminated its relationship with the staffing firm, took more direct control of the hiring process and hired a law firm to conduct an audit of its employment practices, it said.
SMART Alabama did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Munoz’s comments come on the same day that an investor group working with union pension funds sent a letter to Hyundai, pushing it to respond to reports of child labor at U.S. parts suppliers, and warning of potential reputational damage to the Korean automaker.
The letter said that the use of child labor violated international standards Hyundai committed to in its Human Rights Charter and its own code of conduct for suppliers.

7 Eco-Hotels In Mexico To Save The Planet TravelPulse
7 Eco-Hotels In Mexico To Save The Planet – TravelPulse https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/7-eco-hotels-in-mexico-to-save-the-planet-travelpulse/
If you are looking for a trip with your family, loved ones or solo and want that trip to include adventurous activities, wellness experiences and special offers surrounded by nature and without the preoccupation of the biological impact, here are six options from which to choose.
Many travelers are holding themselves to higher social responsibility standards as they plan their trips and set forth on their journeys. Hotels and resorts are paying attention to these demands and are implementing innovative solutions and new technologies to have less of an impact on the environment.
Trending Now
Living green is becoming increasingly important for everyone. When people travel, it can be more complicated to maintain those “green” values because the things travelers consume on their journeys and with their lodging are not necessarily environmentally friendly but these Mexico properties are putting the environment front and center.
If you’re thinking about eco-friendly lodging, you don’t have to limit yourself to rustic places that rob you of the comfort you’re looking for in your vacation. These are some of the best eco-friendly hotels in Mexico that connect guests with nature as well as all of the comforts of home.
The place is surrounded by the jungle of the Tulum ecological reserve and nearby Mayan archaeological wonders, just minutes from the beach and city center.
Mayaliah Tulum Hotel & Residences
Located within the premium award-winning and innovative community of Aldea Zamá, long regarded as being the best location in Tulum, Mayaliah Tulum Hotel & Residences – MGallery Hotel Collection will harmoniously coexist with nature. The place is surrounded by the jungle of the Tulum ecological reserve and nearby Mayan archaeological wonders, just minutes from the beach and city center. Guests will enjoy enchanting and memorable experiences that draw upon the spirit of the destination, inspired by the Mayan culture and local community, and complemented by authentic and excellent service.
Influenced by the unique stories and personality of the hotel, Mayaliah Tulum will offer several elevated dining experiences at its four restaurants and bars, including a rooftop bar that will showcase innovative Mexican cuisine and inventive cocktails that highlight local ingredients.
El Patio 77
Housed in a 19th-century mansion, this B&B is ideal for an eco-friendly getaway. It is furnished with vintage recycled pieces and uses solar panels, recycled water, LED light bulbs (that work with sensors), and filtered water (not bottled) to accompany the 100% organic breakfasts.
The hotel has been acknowledged by a large number of design, travel, fashion, hotel, etc. magazines for the architectural value of the house and its configuration and decoration. Since the opening of El Patio 77, many guests have asked to use the space as a location for photos, commercials and recordings. Most of the spaces in the house have been used as locations in various print and digital media.
Organico Hotel
This property transports guests traveling to Mexico city to a tranquil oasis, and besides being eco-friendly, the hotel is pet friendly, too. The rooms are constructed with recycled wood, lighting is energy-efficient and activities connect guests with nature.
Organico Hotel Boutique has always bet on the development of outdoor activities. Enjoying a weekend full of peace and tranquility without leaving the city is now possible thanks to this beautiful hotel nestled in the middle of the Ajusco forest, just minutes from downtown Mexico City.
This place is for you if you like the beach, yoga, and sustainability.
Xinalani
This place is for you if you like the beach, yoga and sustainability. The villas were built and decorated by local artisans. There are eco-tours, biodegradable bath products in guestrooms and recycled water contributing to its appeal as a “green” lodge.
The resort is also one of Mexico’s best wellness and yoga retreats, providing world-class yoga retreat centers. Ithe property also offers beautiful rooms, healthy Mexican food and eco-friendly activities. As a wellness resort, it provides a unique environment for those dedicated to spiritual transformation and personal growth.
Azulik Tulum
Tulum was created as Mexico’s ecological destination. But Azulik Tulum takes it to another level for guests who want to disconnect, relax and focus on the best of the destination. Electricity use is minimal. They have a farm-to-table menu and a clothing store with sustainable and fair-trade designs.
The Azulik Hotel has been named the Prix Villegiature 2022, one of the best hotels in the Artistic Universe category.
The place became a top-tier destination thanks to its fantastic beaches, natural cenotes, chill lifestyle and great restaurants. Unsurprisingly, the beach town has attracted many incredible hotels, some of which stand out among competitors. Azulik Tulum was designed to celebrate ancient Mexican history and traditions through its concept. They define the building as an “immersive work of art” with irregular lines and organic architecture.
This place has Rainforest Alliance Certification, recycling, a water treatment plant, environmental education program, a plant nursery, and solar panels.
Sandos Caracol
A resort for the whole family that is sustainable? Yes, it exists. Sandos Caracol has Rainforest Alliance Certification, recycling, a water treatment plant, environmental education program, a plant nursery and solar panels. It is the ideal destination for your family to fall in love with green living.
Sandos Caracol features the exciting All Nature Experience, with daily activities that allow guests to experience the magic found within the property’s lush ecosystems. At the eco-resort, you can snorkel in the clear waters of a natural cenote, swim through a mangrove forest and enjoy ecological excursions through the most breathtaking outdoor sites. And, best of all, it’s all-included.
El Copal
Lose yourself in nature at this wilderness destination to disconnect from it all. The eco-chic Cpal has ecological practices such as limited use of artificial light and water recycling and was built to adapt to the environment so as not to cut or affect the nature of the space.
Located 5 minutes from downtown Mazunte and behind Punta Cometa, El Copal has become one of the most exclusive places on the Oaxacan coast. Its original rooms, ideally located among the abundant tropical vegetation of the place, and its unique design, give you the ideal disconnection from everyday life that you need. The place offers privacy and tranquility around every corner.
The hotel’s goal is to be a place that feels like home, full of good times, excellent vibes, family dinners, and endless hours of talks. But with an eco-chic and artistic touch since El Copal has been artistically intervened by the Mexican neo-muralist Israel Guerra Spaik.

Ari Emanuel Calls On Kanye Wests Business Partners To Stop Working With Him Hollywood Reporter
Ari Emanuel Calls On Kanye West’s Business Partners To Stop Working With Him – Hollywood Reporter https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ari-emanuel-calls-on-kanye-wests-business-partners-to-stop-working-with-him-hollywood-reporter/
Ari Emanuel is encouraging businesses that work with Kanye “Ye” West to pull their involvement with him following the rapper’s recent antisemitic remarks.
In an op-ed for the Financial Times published online Wednesday, the Endeavor CEO wrote that West’s business partners, including companies that profit off his music — such as Apple, Spotify, Adidas and his touring partners — should stop working with the star. Emanuel also said that the parent company of Parler, which on Monday announced West’s planned acquisition of the right-wing social media platform, should refuse to sell it to him.
“West is not just any person — he is a pop culture icon with millions of fans around the world,” Emanuel wrote. “And among them are young people whose views are still being formed. This is why it is necessary for all of us to speak out. Hatred and anti-Semitism should have no place in our society, no matter how much money is at stake.”
Emanuel’s essay referenced a 2006 piece he wrote for HuffPost in which he said entertainment companies should stop working with Mel Gibson after the antisemitic remarks he made that year during an arrest for drunk driving. In his new op-ed, Emanuel explained that he has since recommended Gibson for roles following the actor’s public apology and “commitment to understanding the consequences of his actions,” and that he would be open to helping West do the same.
“We are all capable of learning and evolving, and if West would like to be educated about the history and consequences of anti-Semitism and the conspiracy theories he’s parroting, if he wants to reach out to religious leaders — including rabbis, Muslim leaders, Christian leaders — I’d be happy to help,” the mogul wrote.
Until that happens, Emanuel encouraged business leaders to speak up, and he praised his clients, LeBron James and Maverick Carter, for not running an interview with West that was recorded for talk series The Shop. Carter stated last week that the interview would be scrapped due to West’s use of hate speech.
“Those who continue to do business with West are giving his misguided hate an audience,” Emanuel added. “There should be no tolerance anywhere for West’s anti-Semitism. This is a moment in history where the stakes are high and being open about our values, and living them, is essential. Silence and inaction are not an option.”

Aaron and Austin Nola made MLB history during Wednesday’s Game 2 of the National League Championship Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres. The two became the first siblings to square off in a pitcher-batter matchup in postseason history, as well as the sixth pair of brothers to play against one another in a postseason series. The most recent brothers to accomplish the feat (Roberto and Sandy Alomar Jr.) did so as part of the 1997 American League Championship Series.
Aaron, a right-handed pitcher who started the game for the Phillies, won the first encounter in the bottom of the second inning when he coerced an inning-ending groundout off the bat of Austin, the Padres’ starting catcher. The Fox broadcast interviewed their parents afterward, with their father, A.J., saying simply, “Aaron got him the first at-bat.” (A.J., for those wondering, was wearing a Padres hat and a Phillies jersey over a Padres jersey.)
Austin, meanwhile, claimed the win in their second at-bat. He singled to drive in a run and reduce the Phillies’ lead to 4-3. (The Padres, who fell behind early, would later take over the game.) Aaron departed before the two could square up for a third time, and Austin’s rally-starting single keyed an eventual 8-5 Padres win.
Here’s the full list of brothers who have competed against one another as part of a postseason series, courtesy of Sarah Langs of MLB.com and Elias Sports:
Doc and Jimmy Johnston, 1920 World Series
Irish and Bob Meusel, 1921-23 World Series
Ken and Clete Boyer, 1964 World Series
Garth and Dane Iorg, 1985 ALCS
Sandy and Roberto Alomar, 1996 ALDS and 1997 ALCS
“I know his stuff very well,” Austin, the 32-year-old older bother, told the Associated Press prior to the game. “We talk a lot about pitching. I use a lot of his knowledge and wisdom to teach me.”
For the sake of both Nolas, here’s hoping their encounter doesn’t end with a broken finger, as was the case with Houston Astros reliever Phil Maton following a late-season outing that saw him surrender a base hit to his brother and Phillies infielder Nick Maton. Phil, in addition to losing bragging rights at Thanksgiving dinner next month, will miss the rest of the postseason.

As part of Dubai’s ambition to become a global center for metaverse business and technology, the emirate recently inaugurated its first hospital in the metaverse built by the UAE-based healthcare provider Medcare.
See more: Dubai Ramps Up Efforts to Become Global Metaverse Capital
The Metaverse healthcare facility mirrors Dubai’s real-world Medcare Women & Children Hospital and will be used in their medical tourism initiatives, giving potential patients an immersive experience of the hospital prior to visiting in person.
Announcing the launch, Dr. Shanila Laiju, CEO Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centers, said: “Our ultimate aim is to deliver actual healthcare services by incorporating the delivery of real-time consultations through our team of over 400 medical experts.”
She added that they expect traditional telemedicine services to be replaced by a need for Metaverse interactions in the long run, enabling “our patients to receive a more tangible and collaborative service.”
Earlier this year, another UAE healthcare company, Thumbay Group, announced its own intentions to build a virtual hospital where doctors and patients can meet for remote consultations. Thumbay Group is also working with UAE-based Gulf Medical University to incorporate Virtual Reality (VR) into medical training.
While metaverse skeptics might argue that such initiatives are little more than telehealth with 3D glasses, another project unveiled at the Gitex 2022 conference in the Dubai World Trade Center earlier this month is proving that remote medical treatment can go beyond consultations to treatment.

Currently in the clinical trial stage, a digital new eye test is being developed by the Indian HealthTech ShopDoc.
While there have been other experiments with digital eye care, previous attempts assess the change in a patient’s visual acuity over time by asking the customer to distinguish several letters and shapes in the range of their current prescription.
These new tests, however, use technology developed by the U.S. digital optometry specialist CLEAR to test a more comprehensive range of prescription factors including visual acuity, contrast, pupil size, accommodation, binocular balancing and more, which the company states are able to deliver clinically verified 20/20 prescriptions.
With plans to first roll out remote eye tests in India and the UAE, the technology will be available to users of the ShopDoc Metaverse platform. ShopDoc has already entered into agreements with over 100 eye clinics in the UAE as part of efforts to promote its metaverse digital eye test project.

Transforming Modern Surgery With VR/AR
Aside from the enhanced remote appointments made possible by VR, the technology has been used by surgeons to simulate operations. In fact, in life-or-death situations, getting in some virtual practice before can make all the difference.
Earlier this year, surgeons separated two conjoined twins in Brazil after months of trialing the techniques using VR projections of the twins, based on Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
With some members of the team based in London and others in Rio de Janeiro, for the first time, surgeons in separate countries wore headsets and operated in the same virtual theater in real-time.
To bring this kind of cutting-edge technology to the UAE, Dubai’s Abdul Latif Jameel Health has partnered with Japanese medical VR specialist Holoeyes in a project that will deploy detailed 3D VR models for training, education and analysis.
In the related field of Augmented Reality (AR) assisted surgery, medical professionals in Abu Dhabi have been pioneering new surgical techniques using Microsoft’s HoloLens AR headset.
The technology, which Dr. Rashed Al Shaeel of Burjeel Medical City compared to “a surgical sat-nav,” provides real-time patient data to surgeons and shows them where to make incisions.
At the same time, colleagues can remotely monitor the operation through the headset’s cameras, giving specialists anywhere in the world a live view of the patient.

FEEs Lawrence Reed Talks Freedom Economics In Montana Kmmsam
FEE’s Lawrence Reed Talks Freedom, Economics In Montana – Kmmsam https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/fees-lawrence-reed-talks-freedom-economics-in-montana-kmmsam/
We had a remarkable guest join us in our radio studios here in Montana Wednesday morning.
If you’re in the Billings area Wednesday night and read this in time- you can actually meet and hear Lawrence Reed, the President Emeritus of FEE, the Foundation for Economic Education at Rocky Mountain College at 7 p.m. He is speaking at an event for the Frontier Institute, a free market think tank based here in Montana. Click here for free ticket info.
Reed is going to talk about “The Seven Principles of Sound Public Policy.”
Aaron Flint: “Number one: free people are not equal, and equal people are not free. Expand on that a little more. Because that is a brilliant statement.”
Lawrence Reed: “Well, thank you. You have to focus in on a particular kind of equality- when it comes to equality before the law, the idea that we should all be innocent or guilty based upon whether we did it, not according to our racial background, or place of origin, or faith, or whatever. That’s not an issue. What I’ll be talking about is economic equality. Equality in terms of our material income, and our wealth. And a free society is not going to generate equal incomes. And why? Mainly because people are different. There’s not a single person in the history of the world who has been identically copied by another individual. Everybody’s different. We’re different in terms of the talents, we have our willingness to work, our propensity to save versus spend, our ambitions, a million factors make us very different people. So why should we expect in a free society people will generate the same incomes? They won’t. Those who apply their talents and apply them well will tend to do better than those who don’t.”
He also shared an incredible radio story from behind the Iron Curtain, before Communism came crashing down in Poland.
As Tanner Avery with the Frontier Institute tells us:
Lawrence was recently awarded the The Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland – the highest honor bestowed by Poland upon a foreigner. Past recipients include Ronald Reagan and Sir Roger Scruton. He was awarded this because of his extensive work to bring Liberty and Freedom to Poland. You can read more here.“
You’re gonna want to listen to the whole chat. Here’s audio of our full conversation with Larry Reed:
LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don’t exist anymore
The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. NewsBTC reported earlier that Bitcoin and larger cryptocurrencies would likely continue with their sideways movement over the coming weeks. This sideways price action might extend the spikes in volatility for EGLD, APT, and tokens going viral across social media.
In that sense, data from Santiment recorded an increase in the “Discussion Rate” across Twitter, Telegram, and other platforms. Retail traders have been posting about these cryptocurrencies causing more people to become interested, leading to further volatility.
The research firm said the following on Elrond and Aptos’s price action while sharing the chart below:
Elrond and Aptos are both trending Wednesday for different reasons. The price of $APT tanked after launching its highly anticipated mainnet. Meanwhile, $EGLD has benefited from some shilling and giveaways making rounds on Telegram, in particular.

Additional data from Material Indicators support this thesis. Retail traders have been following as Elrond increases its social media posting volumes. Traders with buy orders from $100 to $1,000 are bidding into EGLD’s price action.
The cryptocurrency is losing momentum on lower timeframes. As seen in the chart below, EGLD’s price is coming into heavy resistance at its current levels. Selling orders are thickening and might prevent the price of this cryptocurrency from sustaining its price action.

While more significant cryptocurrencies trend sideways, any rally or volatility in the price of Elrond and Aptos might be short-lived. However, if too many traders jump into these tokens, Bitcoin and Ethereum might lose stability.
According to a pseudonym trader, APT’s volatility and increasing participation might take out the liquidity from other trading pairs. This price action leads to a sudden shift in price direction for more prominent cryptocurrencies, a situation that might become normal while the market lacks clear direction.
After 1 day: $150 mil open interest, $3 bil futures volume, $1 bil spot volume…
This is going to suck so much liquidity from the market.$APT https://t.co/iMupyE21It
