Home / Technology / News /  Google Search page for mobile gets updates: ‘Labels for ads’ among others 2 min read . Updated: 17 Oct 2022, 08:45 AM IST Livemint Premium According to Google, these changes will further be extended to Search ads to increase clarity and advertiser transparency at a glance. Google is replacing the ‘Ad’ with ‘Sponsored’ label in bold next to the advertisements appearing in search results. Additionally, this label will be present in the line above the site URL, instead of showing it next to the URL. Google Search is popular for people all over the world to find information from various sources and formats (text, images and video). The technology giant has been bringing changes to both mobile as well as web search since the feature’s launch. Google is now introducing a few updates. These updates are essentially tweaks to the Search page on mobiles that will make it easy for users to differentiate between search results from trusted sources and advertisements. One of the most user-friendly tweaks announced is the renaming of Ad tag to Sponsored when search results are displayed on the pages on mobiles. Users must have noticed some links with ‘Ad’ on the top left corner. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between advertisements links and links of sources that they trust, especially on mobile. Google is replacing the ‘Ad’ with ‘Sponsored label‘ in bold next to the advertisements appearing in search results. Additionally, this label will be present in the line above the site URL, instead of showing it next to the URL. The second update on the search page on mobile is coming in the form of addition of site names and bigger icons. “We’re adding site names to search results on mobile, so you can easily identify the website that is associated with each result at a glance. We are also updating the size and shape of the favicon (a website’s logo or icon) which appears in Search,” said Google. According to Google, these changes will further be extended to Search ads to increase clarity and advertiser transparency at a glance. Moreover, Google says that these search page updates are starting to roll out gradually on mobile. The company will soon begin testing the similar experience on desktop as well. Meanwhile, Google has also introduced a new passkey feature for Android devices and Google Chrome. This feature offers additional security to users. Users now would soon be able to use this option to authenticate their identity by using PINs or biometric authentication to log in to any website or app instead of using a password. The technology giant is pitching as a safer option for users than the traditional two-factor authentication method. Catch all the Technology News and Updates on Live Mint. The Biggest Gaming News For October 16 2022 TheGamer
The Biggest Gaming News For October 16, 2022 – TheGamer https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-biggest-gaming-news-for-october-16-2022-thegamer/ There might be a Silent Hill game in the works, Comcast pulls the plug on G4 TV, and Game Director on Bayonetta 3 Hideki Kamiya leaves Twitter. Here we are on yet another sleepy Sunday, at least in theory. We’ve been getting some pretty big news recently, making this particular Sunday in fact not so sleepy. We found out for example that a bit of Silent Hill news will soon be announced by Konami, Comcast pulled the plug on the gaming network G4 TV, and Game Director Hideki Kamiya just deleted his Twitter account amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding Bayonetta 3. There’s more where this came from, so read on for the rest. Bayonetta 3 Director Hideki Kamiya Closes Twitter Account Following Voice Actor Pay Controversy Bayonetta 3 Game Director Hideki Kamiya has been at the center of controversy ever since the voice actor Hellena Taylor called for a boycott of the game, revealing that she was only offered a pittance in recompense for her services. The latest development is that Kamiya has now deleted his Twitter account. “What did they offer to pay me? The final offer to do the whole game as a buyout and as a flat rate was $4,000,” Taylor previously said. “This is an insult to me and to the amount of time I took to work on my talent and everything that I have given to this game and the fans. I am asking the fans to boycott this game and instead spend the money you would have spent on this game donating to charity. I didn’t want the world. I didn’t ask for too much. I was just asking for a decent, dignified living wage. What they did was legal, but it was immoral.” The Latest Updates For The Silent Hill Series Will Be Revealed October 19 While fans of the franchise have been waiting for literally decades, Konami has revealed next to nothing about its plans for the popular Silent Hill franchise. The company has in fact been practically silent on the matter. Well, the situation has now changed. Konami said that we can all expect a big announcement, the best part of all being that we don’t even have to wait very long. “In your restless dreams, do you see that town? The latest updates for the Silent Hill series will be revealed during the Silent Hill Transmission on Wednesday,” the official account for Silent Hill posted on Twitter, calling on us all to tune in on October 19 at 2:00 PM PDT. Comcast Leaves Workers In The Lurch After Surprise Gaming Network G4 TV Cancellation Comcast recently sprung the surprise announcement that G4 TV has been canceled, a move leaving dozens of workers in the lurch. The reason stated by Chief Executive Officer Dave Scott was a lack of profitability. “As you know, G4 was reintroduced last year to tap into the popularity of gaming,” Scott remarked in a leaked memo. “We invested to create the new G4 as an online and TV destination for fans to be entertained, be inspired, and connect with gaming content. Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results. This is certainly not what we hoped for and as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.” Amouranth Reveals That She’s Married, Husband Controls Finances And Verbally Abuses Her On Stream Amouranth came forward this afternoon with some rather shocking and unsettling news. The streamer is apparently married to an abusive husband. This of course represents the first time that Amouranth has made any mention of this, claiming to have been told to pose as single. The content creator could be seen accepting a phone call from her husband while on camera, noting how she was scared that he would harm her dogs. Amouranth has apparently been “wanting to tell” her fans that she was married for some time, but said that her husband rejected the idea, claiming that it would “ruin the business model.” Former Achievement Hunter Kdin Jenzen Accuses Rooster Teeth Of Crunch, Slurs, And Unpaid Work Kdin Jenzen has accused Rooster Teeth of crunch, slurs, and even unpaid work, the former Achievement Hunter star having left the company with nearly a decade worth of tenure. The departure came with a lengthy diatribe on Twitter in which he detailed some of the abuses. “Every day I came into work I was called ‘F*gg*t,’ but they could not use that name in content, so when anyone was recording, I was called ‘Fugz’ instead. For any fans who used that nickname for me for years, that’s what you were calling me,” Jenzen for example said. “I left Rooster Teeth because despite thinking I could make positive change in the company, they proved that I couldn’t, every step of the way. From 2013 until 2022, I did what I could to help my fellow employees, make positive change, and help the industry.” NEXT: The Big Question: What’s Your Favourite Game From The ’00s?

Plan In Fall For Spring Garden Moberly Monitor Index
Plan In Fall For Spring Garden Moberly Monitor Index
Plan In Fall For Spring Garden – Moberly Monitor Index https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/plan-in-fall-for-spring-garden-moberly-monitor-index/ University of Missouri Extension COLUMBIA  — Ben Franklin’s adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” could be gardeners’ theme song for November. Gardeners should close the curtain on this season and begin looking forward to the next, said University of Missouri Extension horticulturist David Trinklein. Next year’s success is influenced greatly by this fall’s cleanup. “Garden cleanup does more than just improve the appearance of the garden during the mundane, lifeless months of winter,” Trinklein said. It reduces the amount of disease inoculum and insect infestation that might remain. Prevention is the best cure for any plant-related problem, he said. Here are his tips: Begin fall cleanup by removing plant debris. Pull annual flowers and vegetables. Dispose of healthy plant material properly by making a compost pile. Discard diseased or insect-infested plants. When in doubt, throw it out. Cut back herbaceous perennials to the crowns after they go dormant. This usually happens after the first hard freeze. Mulch tender perennials, including roses, after several hard freezes. This allows the soil to cool. Mulch provides protection from winter weather. Remove weeds from gardens to curb weed population next year. Careful hand or mechanical weeding works best, Trinklein said. You can also use nonselective herbicides such as glyphosate on living weeds. Keep in mind that post-emergence herbicides applied in cool weather take longer to work, he said. When removing weeds, cut back and put in a plastic bag to take them out of the garden. Weeds such as pigweed can produce up to 600,000 seeds, so you want to avoid spreading seeds as you remove the weeds. If it has been several years since your garden soil was tested, now is a good time to take a soil sample for testing. Go to soilplantlab.missouri.edu for more information. Improve garden soil with well-rotted manure or other organic matter. Incorporate several inches of organic matter to flower and vegetable gardens. If needed, add limestone and other slowly soluble fertilizers to this. Gather and drain garden hoses. Store inside to avoid cracking. Clean garden tools and coat with a light layer of oil to prevent rust. Sharpen tools used for cutting so they are ready for use next spring. Drain irrigation lines. Clean hotbeds and other “season extenders” in the fall. If you don’t have one, consider building one as a winter project, suggested Trinklein. Winterize mowers and tillers according to the owner’s manual instructions. Finally, “think spring,” Trinklein said. “Remember: Winter is only 90 days long.” Now is a good time to assess your gardening activities from this year, he said. Make notes of what worked and what did not. This will help you on cabin-crazed snow days as you plan next year’s garden.

Cowboys Vs. Eagles Live Score Updates Highlights From NFL Sunday Night Football Game Sporting News
Cowboys Vs. Eagles Live Score Updates Highlights From NFL Sunday Night Football Game Sporting News
Cowboys Vs. Eagles Live Score, Updates, Highlights From NFL ‘Sunday Night Football’ Game – Sporting News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/cowboys-vs-eagles-live-score-updates-highlights-from-nfl-sunday-night-football-game-sporting-news/ Two of the NFL’s best teams will face off under the lights in an early-season divisional showdown on “Sunday Night Football.” Oh, yeah, they also don’t like each other very much. The Cowboys and Eagles meet for the first time this season, in prime time in Week 6 — and the stakes couldn’t be much higher. Both teams have gotten off to outstanding starts in 2022. Philadelphia is the only undefeated team remaining in the league at 5-0 while Dallas is lurking at 4-1. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has forced his way into the MVP discussion with 10 total touchdowns (four passing, six rushing). His supporting cast on offense — including A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Miles Sanders — is making life difficult for opposing defenses. That said, Philly has only played one team with a winning record thus far (the Vikings in Week 2). This week’s game will be one of its toughest tests to date. MORE: See where Cowboys, Eagles stack up in latest NFL power rankings Cowboys fans could be forgiven for thinking their season was over after a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers in which Dak Prescott suffered a thumb fracture on his throwing hand. But they’ve rattled off four wins in a row since then with Cooper Rush filling in at quarterback. The hallmark of this team is its defense, with reigning DROY Micah Parsons spearheading a pass rush that’s second in the league in sacks per game. The unit is also allowing just 14 points per game, which was good for third in the NFL after five weeks. Rush has been winning games but he hasn’t necessarily been lighting it up. He’s coming off his worst statistical game of the season: 10-for-16 passing, 102 yards, no touchdowns (but also no interceptions) in a win over the Rams. He’ll need to play better than that to keep up with an explosive Eagles offense. Sporting News is tracking live scoring updates and highlights from Cowboys vs. Eagles on “Sunday Night Football.” Follow along for all the key moments from the pivotal Week 6 matchup. MORE: Watch Cowboys vs. Eagles live with fuboTV (free trial) Cowboys vs. Eagles score Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 F Cowboys 0 0 – – – Eagles 0 17 – – – Cowboys vs. Eagles live updates, highlights from ‘Sunday Night Football’ (All times Eastern.) 9:31 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — With 120 seconds left in the half, Philly faces a 3rd and 18 from near the Cowboys’ 30-yard line. 9:28 p.m. — DeVonta Smith comes up with a pair of catches to move the Eagles down to the Dallas 27-yard line, then Sanders bursts ahead for another first down to enter the red zone.  9:24 p.m. INTERCEPTION — This is spiraling out of control for Dallas. Rush makes a very careless throw across the middle intended for Michael Gallup, but Darius “Big Play” Slay jumps the route and picks it off. It’s been a rough, rough first half for Rush.  — NFL (@NFL) October 17, 2022 9:22 p.m. — The Cowboys finally get a first down after a Pollard run picks up 15 yards on 2nd down. But the ensuing two plays go nowhere, they face 3rd and 9.   Eagles 17, Cowboys 0 9:19 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Elliot’s kick is true from 51 yards out to extend the Eagles’ lead.  9:18 p.m. — The Eagles can’t make any progress on their drive, going three-and-out after Quez Watkins was pushed out of bounds on 3rd down. Jake Elliot will come on for a field goal try. 9:15 p.m. — After watching a few replays, it looks like Lamb actually did make the line to gain on that 3rd down catch. But rather than challenge or call timeout, the Cowboys quickly went for it. Tough break for Dallas, but on the other hand their staff in the booth probably should have suggested a challenge there.  Cowboys should have challenged the spot after this 3rd and 9. they probably would have gotten it. Better than trying a play action on 4th and inches lmao pic.twitter.com/N7kqZwPtya — alex (@highlghtheaven) October 17, 2022 9:12 p.m. TURNOVER ON DOWNS — Mike McCarthy gambles and goes for it on 4th and 1 from his own 34-yard line. Rush fakes the handoff, rolls right and throws downfield but it’s broken up! Another terrible sequence for the Dallas offense, and another drive with fantastic starting field position for Hurts and Co.  9:11 p.m. — On the ensuing drive, Elliot gets stuffed on first down and Rush throws incomplete on 2nd. That sets up 3rd and 9, and Rush completes it to CeeDee Lamb. It was close, but he’s been spotted just short to bring up 4th down.  9:09 p.m. — As mentioned on the NBC broadcast, the Eagles have been superb in second quarters all season long. After that touchdown, they now have a +82 point differential in second quarters this year. Eagles 14, Cowboys 0 9:05 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Hurts tosses right to Brown, who has room to run. He lowers his shoulder and bulldozes into the end zone for his second touchdown of the season! Things have escalated quickly after a dull first quarter. — NFL (@NFL) October 17, 2022 9:02 p.m. — Sanders and Boston Scott rip off a few good runs in a row to move the ball into the red zone, before Dallas finally gets a stop to set up 3rd and 3.  8:59 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Things go from bad to worse for the Cowboys. On the first play of the drive, Rush throws down the middle of the field but his pass is tipped high into the air and picked off by C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Hurts and the Eagles immediately have the ball back with great field position at the Dallas 44-yard line. — NFL (@NFL) October 17, 2022 Eagles 7, Cowboys 0 8:54 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Miles Sanders powers his way into the end zone to open the scoring! That mistake by the Cowboys ends up costing them a touchdown.  — NFL (@NFL) October 17, 2022 8:52 p.m. — BIG mistake by the Cowboys. The Eagles were trying to draw them offside on 4th and 4 and they did just that. A costly neutral zone infraction penalty gives Philly first and goal from the 5-yard line.  8:50 p.m. — Gainwell picks up 9 yards on the next play to keep the Eagles moving. A few plays later, Hurts gets brought down for a loss before throwing incomplete. On 3rd and 12, he connects with Brown but it’s short of the marker. They’ll leave their offense on the field for now with the end of the quarter approaching. 8:47 p.m. — On 4th down, Hurts passes short right to Brown who easily picks up the first down with a gain of 11 yards to keep the drive alive.  8:46 p.m. — Another Eagles tight end, Dallas Goedert, gets involved with a 9-yard catch of his own. A few plays later, they face a 3rd and 5 and running back Kenneth Gainwell gets stuffed to bring up 4th and 3 from the Dallas 38-yard line. 8:42 p.m. — Hurts finds his tight end Jack Stoll for a gain of 21. That’s the biggest play of the night so far and it moves the Eagles to their own 43-yard line. 8:38 p.m. — Another Dallas drive stalls out. Runs by Pollard and Elliot set up 3rd and 4, and Rush’s pass intended for Peyton Hendershot falls incomplete. That’ll bring on Bryan Anger for another punt.  8:35 p.m. — Tony Pollard gets the ball on back-to-back plays to start the drive, picking up 3 yards then 8 yards to move the chains.   8:30 p.m. — The Cowboys get a big first down sack courtesy of Dorance Armstrong. Their pass rush has been absolutely dominant this season. Philadelphia gets a few yards back on 2nd down after a catch by A.J. Brown, but Hurts’ pass on 3rd and 8 falls incomplete. The Eagles will punt it away.  8:28 p.m. — Jalen Hurts takes the field for the first time tonight, and on 2nd and 10 he hits DeVonta Smith in stride for a gain of 13 yards.  8:25 p.m. — CeeDee Lamb runs for 8 yards on first down, then Cooper Rush’s first pass of the night gets broken up. On 3rd and 2, Ezekiel Elliot gets smothered at the line of scrimmage and can’t reach the line to gain. Metaverse Real Estate App Founder Turns Skeptical On Metaverse Real Estate – InsideHook https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/metaverse-real-estate-app-founder-turns-skeptical-on-metaverse-real-estate-insidehook/ Among the many aphorisms for which Mark Twain is known, there’s one that comes to mind especially when thinking of recent developments in online spaces. “Buy land, they’re not making it anymore,” Twain once said — a phrase that the rise of the metaverse could undermine ever so slightly. To be fair, that also depends on your definition of “land” — you could buy an entire planet’s worth of land in the metaverse, but you can’t physically stand on it. All of which makes a recent Curbed interview with Jessica Stocker so interesting. As Curbed’s Bridget Reed notes, Stocker founded a company, Digiland, whose app was used to buy and sell space in the metaverse. Stockler’s main work is in the physical real estate world — and, based on comments she made in the interview, she’s become skeptical of the metaverse real estate market. Stockler told Curbed that she feels that the metaverse still has a wide range of potential for the future — but that “as of right now, it’s really just advertising space in a digital world.” Later in the interview, she points to price fluctuations over time in the market. “There’s no concrete proof yet that any of these metaverses are going to survive,” Stockler told Curbed. “Like right now, some of the land that people bought in Decentraland is down 70 percent.” Something big could change that market, of course — perhaps the addition of legs, perhaps something else — but the call for caution is worth thinking about. Jets CB Sauce Gardners Celebratory Cheesehead Knocked Off By Allen Lazard WABC-TV
Jets CB Sauce Gardners Celebratory Cheesehead Knocked Off By Allen Lazard WABC-TV
Jets CB Sauce Gardner’s Celebratory Cheesehead Knocked Off By Allen Lazard – WABC-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/jets-cb-sauce-gardners-celebratory-cheesehead-knocked-off-by-allen-lazard-wabc-tv/ GREEN BAY, Wis. — The surprising New York Jets enjoyed their 27-10 win over the Green Bay Packers so much that they decided to partake in a couple of local traditions on Sunday. They took a Lambeau Leap and celebrated the upset by donning a cheesehead, much to the chagrin of a Packers player. It was rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner who wore the cheesehead, a gift from an ecstatic Jets fan in the crowd. As he strutted off the field and to the tunnel — the wrong tunnel, as it turned out — Gardner was caught from behind, so to speak, by Allen Lazard. The Packers’ wide receiver knocked his block (of cheese) off, creating a moment that went viral on social media. “I’m definitely never going to forget this moment,” Gardner said, laughing at his locker. “It’s a tribute to the Jets fans. They put in on my head, the Jets fans. I just had to take it and run with it.” Lazard took it well, complimenting Gardner on his game, his nickname (“Sauce, that’s a cool name”) and insisting he wasn’t bothered by the rookie’s gesture. “It’s just a little competitive spirit,” Lazard said. “Nothing too harmful in that aspect or anything. I’m sure he probably would’ve done the same thing if I was wearing a Jets hat or helmet walking off their field, so that’s just the competitiveness in me. No disrespect to him.” The corny moment capped another convincing victory for the Jets, who turned a 3-3 halftime score into a one-sided second half. TheJets sacked Aaron Rodgers four times and hit him nine times; they outrushed the Packers 179 yards to 60; and they became the first team since 2018 to have a blocked field goal and blocked punt in the same game — scoring on the latter. Who could’ve envisioned this? The Jets won their third straight and improved to 4-2 for the first time since 2015, winning in convincing fashion for the second week in a row. This sort of thing usually doesn’t happen to the Jets. In fact, it was only the second time in the past 20 years that they won by at least 17 points in back-to-back games. The Jets became only the second team in the Super Bowl era to have a winning record through six games despite being an underdog in all six games, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The other team was the 2001 Cleveland Browns. “We believe we can be as great as any team in this league,” New York defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said, adding how they’re “showing the rest of this world that this is not just a team you can write off or a team that, ‘Oh, maybe they’ll be good in a few years.’ No, we’re coming to win right now.” Once again, the Jets were led by rookie running back Breece Hall, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown. He came became only the second rookie in franchise history to record at least 100 yards of scrimmage in consecutive games. He scored on a 34-yard misdirection play to put the Jets up 24-10 at the start of the fourth quarter. He decided to take a Lambeau Leap. When in Green Bay … “We actually had all talked about it before the game,” Hall said. “We were like, whichever one of us scores, we’ve got to do the Lambeau Leap.Braxton [Berrios]got the first one, but I don’t think there were any Jets fans on the side he scored.” Berrios gave the Jets a 10-3 lead on a 20-yard reverse, a gadget play that seemed to snap the offense out of its doldrums. None of it was pretty, as the Jets finished with 99 net passing yards and converted only one of 11 third downs. They became the first team to win with only one third-down conversion and fewer than 100 net passing yards. But theJets kept grinding, wearing down the favored Packers (3-3) despite a mediocre day by quarterback Zach Wilson (10-for-18, 110 yards). New York coach Robert Saleh tried to downplay the significance of the victory, saying, “I’ll be honest: It doesn’t mean anything. Just like a loss wouldn’t have meant anything. I’ve said it before: We’ve got to start expecting stuff like this.” As Jets cornerback D.J. Reed said, “I think we’re just getting started. We’re 3-0 on the road. That speaks volumes to everybody buying in … You definitely feel the confidence. Winning is becoming normal. It’s expected, really.” New York’s defense took over the game, especially defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who registered two sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal. The Jets sensed that Rodgers was rattled throughout the game, as he was victimized by six drops. “He was definitely frustrated,” Rankins said. “That’s what we wanted to see. That’s our objective every week, to piss off every quarterback we line up against in a smart, dominant, violent way. I think we’re successful in doing that.”

Pay No Attention To Crypto Prices Decrypt
Pay No Attention To Crypto Prices – Decrypt https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/pay-no-attention-to-crypto-prices-decrypt/ Crypto is totally dead lately—if you’re only looking at the price action. Yes, Bitcoin is down 72% from its all-time-high price in November 2021, almost one full year ago. Ethereum is down the same, 72% from its own high of $4,878. Woof. Crypto advocates point out that it’s not just crypto, stocks have been hammered too. And they’re right: everything is down right now. But that’s cold comfort for crypto believers, who—I’ll let you in on a little crypto media trade secret—do not care to read any crypto news when crypto prices are down. ConsenSys CEO Joe Lubin put on a brave face last week when talking to me about the technological success of the Ethereum merge, but ETH is down a disheartening 21% since the event. For a better temperature check on how crypto is doing, look at the major recent signs of mainstream adoption. In the past two months, we got a string of indications that major financial institutions and tech companies believe crypto is here to stay. You’d be excused for having missed these news stories while the global economy was collapsing all around us. In August, BlackRock, the largest asset manager in the world, launched a spot Bitcoin private trust to give its customers exposure to the current price of Bitcoin. (As a reminder, the SEC has staunchly refused to greenlight a publicly-traded spot Bitcoin ETF, allowing only Bitcoin futures ETFs; but BlackRock can offer its own clients whatever service it wants.) BlackRock also said it’s seeing “substantial interest” in crypto from its institutional clients, and that it’s exploring stablecoins and tokenization. Wow. Bitcoin didn’t budge on that BlackRock news, a sign of just how much the economy is weighing on every type of assets. This past week brought two more big shows of faith. Google announced it will start accepting crypto as payment for its cloud services early next year by plugging into Coinbase. As part of the deal, Coinbase Commerce will move its “data-related applications” from Amazon Web Services over to Google. So not only is this Google Cloud welcoming crypto, but also a form of tie-up between Google and Coinbase. On the same day, 239-year-old Bank of New York Mellon launched its own Bitcoin and Ethereum custody service. The bank will hold clients’ private keys and provide accounting on their crypto portfolios. This follows BNY Mellon becoming the custodian for the cash reserves that back Circle’s USDC stablecoin in March. And last year, BNY Mellon launched a Bitcoin custody service in Ireland. All of this might look to sneering crypto-skeptics like an attempt at rationalization. The favored mantra of Web3 builders, “bear markets are for building,” gets so oft-repeated at times like these that it has become cliché. That doesn’t mean it’s untrue. I first wrote about Bitcoin in 2011, and have seen the down cycles of 2014, 2018, and now. Some of the best-known crypto companies and platforms were built during those “winters.” Lubin says crypto is “the tail being wagged by a very sick dog” right now and that it won’t get better until the economy improves. Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko thinks it could take 12-18 months. Meanwhile, they’re all still building, as signs of future adoption quietly multiply. Kakao Shares Slump After Widespread Service Outage – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/kakao-shares-slump-after-widespread-service-outage-reuters/ SEOUL, Oct 17 (Reuters) – Shares in South Korea’s Kakao Corp (035720.KS) plunged more than 9% on Monday after a fire at a data centre south of Seoul damaged servers on the weekend, causing an extensive service outage in the country’s main chat app. The outage of the chat app, predominantly used in South Korea for both private and business exchanges, as well as services including payments and gift exchanges, taxi hailing, maps and log-in access for other apps, crippled communications in Asia’s fourth-largest economy. President Yoon Suk-yeol said on Monday that Kakao’s services are “like a fundamental national telecommunications network as far as the public is concerned,” and follow-up measures over the service outage will be pursued. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com “If the market is distorted in a monopoly or severe oligopoly, to the extent where it serves a similar function as national infrastructure, the government should take necessary measures for the sake of the people,” Yoon added, noting South Korea’s antitrust watchdog would examine the matter. Kakao shares fell to its lowest since May 2020, while shares in Kakao affiliates KakaoPay (377300.KS) and KakaoBank (323410.KS) also plunged more than 8% in morning trade. A Kakao spokesperson told Reuters on Monday services such as messaging have been restored, but miscellaneous services are still being restored. Police and the National Forensic Service plan to conduct their second examination on Monday at the data centre, which is operated by SK C&C (034730.KS). After an initial probe on Sunday, police said electrical issues around battery racks in third basement floor may have caused the fire. Kakao’s messenger app Kakao Talk has more than 47 million active accounts in South Korea and 53 million globally, the company said in a report in August. Kakao said on Monday the financial effects of a widespread service outage were expected to be limited on Kakao and its key units. The victim was Jatzivy Sarabia. Law enforcement officials believe that the deadly confrontation started about 11:40 p.m., when gunfire was reported on or near Highway 397, also called Chemical Drive, in Finley. Vacations, like so many other things, are not immune to inflation. (Neither are pumpkins.) Sales are always worth paying attention to in the travel world, but amid frustrating inflation, they’re particularly intriguing right now. Graduate Hotels is not far from the end of a promotion that can get you 20-40% off stays at its hotels through October 18. The “Visitcation” promotion wants people to turn a short visit into a actual vacation. The promotion offers 20% off a two-night stay, 30% off a three-night stay, and 40% off a stay of four or more nights. New Cyber Safety Initiative To Upskill Small Businesses Mirage News
New Cyber Safety Initiative To Upskill Small Businesses – Mirage News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/new-cyber-safety-initiative-to-upskill-small-businesses-mirage-news/ Australia’s biggest bank and telecommunications company have joined forces with the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) in a new initiative to help protect small businesses from cyber threats and scams which cost the economy an estimated $29 billion a year¹. Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) and Telstra are the founding sponsors of COSBOA’s Cyber Wardens pilot program – which aims to become Australia’s first cyber safety workplace certification or microcredential for the small business sector. The program will be designed by small business, for small business, aiming to upskill the nation’s small business workforce and give owners and employees the tools they need to stay safe online, through a free and easy to use accredited e-learning platform. According to the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), 43 per cent of all Australian cyber crime is directed at small businesses – costing small business owners almost $9,000 on average in FY21². As online scams and fraud continue to rise, it is critical that Australia’s almost 5 million small business employees are supported to upskill their cyber safety knowledge. COSBOA CEO Alexi Boyd says the aim of the Cyber Wardens program is to develop crucial skills training for small business owners who have felt powerless in the digital safety space. She notes that for many small businesses the struggle to upskill is made harder by limited resources, time and technology expertise. “We believe that having a Cyber Warden on the team will help give small business owners the confidence that their business and customers are protected,” Ms Boyd says. “Australia’s innovative small business owners are used to wearing many hats but we can’t just add another task to the to-do or ‘too hard’ lists. By targeting employees, as well as owners, the Cyber Wardens program will equip Australia’s small business workforce with the mindset, skillset and toolset to more easily and safely engage with an increasingly digital world. “With the support of Telstra and CBA, and I hope many more corporate partners, we can provide free , simple and accessible resources to the small business community. We want to foster a culture of self determination and understanding in cyber safety – no IT degree, excel expertise and cloud wizardry required.” CBA’s Group Executive for Business Banking, Mike Vacy-Lyle, says it is crucial the small business sector is equipped with the skills it needs to stay safe online. “Understanding a complex topic like cyber safety can be challenging and we are always looking for ways to better support small businesses in this space. We’re excited to launch the Cyber Wardens pilot program to help demystify cyber safety, instill a cyber-mindset and empower small businesses to identify and manage cyber threats,” Mr Vacy-Lyle says. Designed specifically for non-tech employees, the Cyber Wardens pilot program will be rolled out in coming months to safeguard Australia’s 2.3 million small businesses and upskill everyday Australians to become our nation’s cyber security frontline. Cyber Wardens will be trained based on the ACSC’s Essential Eight and will be empowered to: Learn about common cyber threats that could impact their business and keep their cyber safety knowledge up to date Act as a cyber champion to help uplift the safety of the business, its employees and help protect their customers Promote better practices for managing safer passphrases across small business Implement cyber safety standards in their workplaces Help small business have a risk mindset with how they run their business Have the knowledge about where to get further support and report cyber threats. COSBOA’s research³ found that 6 out of 10 small businesses feel unprepared and rate their cyber security as poor, could improve or only okay. The research also shows cost is the primary barrier to upgrading cyber security systems, which is why the Cyber Wardens program will be rolled out at no cost to small businesses. /Public Release. Todd Bowles Says Any Bucs Living Off Super Bowl Are living In A Fantasy Land Yahoo Sport Australia
Todd Bowles Says Any Bucs Living Off Super Bowl Are ‘living In A Fantasy Land’ – Yahoo Sport Australia https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/todd-bowles-says-any-bucs-living-off-super-bowl-are-living-in-a-fantasy-land-yahoo-sport-australia/ The Tampa Bay Buccaneers weren’t a bad team before Sunday. They just hadn’t been good, either. On Sunday, they were bad. The Buccaneers fell to 3-3 and the third loss is hard to explain. The Pittsburgh Steelers had multiple defensive backs out, lost quarterback Kenny Pickett to injury during the game, and still won 20-18. The Steelers had previously lost four games in a row. A loss like that brings into question where this Buccaneers season is headed. Their coach seems to be wondering about that. Todd Bowles was critical of his team after the loss, saying that anyone still living off the Super Bowl win two seasons ago is “living in a fantasy land.” Here’s Bowles’ full quote: “We didn’t take them lightly, No. 1. No. 2, I think guys who are living off the Super Bowl are living in a fantasy land, and you gotta get your hands dirty and go to work like everybody else. We’ve been working hard. We’ve got to work harder, because nobody’s going to give us anything or feel sorry. So we gotta go back as coaches, as players, and the time for talking is over. You’ve either got to put up or shut up.” However Bowles meant it, the message is clear that whatever the Buccaneers are doing isn’t working well enough. The Buccaneers have plenty of star players but they have been uneven all season, especially on offense. Early in the season they had excuses, with multiple players out due to injury. The offense is reasonably healthy now and still struggling. It did very little against a Steelers team without its top three cornerbacks and All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. They also were without reigning Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt. An offense with Tom Brady, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Leonard Fournette should feast on a defense missing that many key players. Instead, they had a very average 304 yards and 18 points in a miserable loss. There’s still plenty of time left in the season. But the Super Bowl glory of a couple seasons ago seems long gone. Bowles made sure to let the Buccaneers know that Sunday. Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles walks off the field after his team lost to the Steelers. (AP Photo/Matt Durisko)

Pinned Pinned Ridiculous. Josh Allen threads the needle to Dawson Knox, working against Justin Reid in the end zone, and the Bills are back on top. Perfect throw. Perfect timing. Buffalo leads it 24-20, and Patrick Mahomes has 1:04 to answer. Pinned Stefon Diggs is putting on an absolute clinic out wide. Just moved to a ball thrown a little inside like a magnet, picking up 18 to put Buffalo at the Chiefs’ 28. We’ve got two minutes left, and the Bills are knocking at the door down three. Pinned Bills call a pitch to Devin Singletary on third-and-1 with under four minutes to play: a curious call, to be honest, not only because you’re taking the ball out of Allen’s hands but pushing the ball even farther behind the line of scrimmage. Alas, Buffalo lines up to go for it on fourth-and-inches afterward, even from its own 34, and Allen gets it with the QB sneak. Pinned Von Miller comes through to prevent the Chiefs from controlling the clock down the stretch, logging his second sack of the night. Now it’s up to Josh Allen to get Buffalo back on the board. The Bills QB was visibly and understandably upset that the refs didn’t call it. Would’ve changed a big drive-ender there. Instead, it’s Chiefs ball now, with K.C. leading 20-17 and under eight minutes to go. A chance for Andy Reid’s squad to really milk the clock here. Pinned You could say it every game, but: Travis Kelce is just ridiculous. Who is covering him? No one, it often seems. No issue breaking off of Matt Milano over the middle of the field for No. 87, and he’s up to seven catches for 105 yards. Feels like 15 for 200, the way he’s come through in the clutch whenever Mahomes needs to move the chains. Pinned Pinned Three quarters down. And we’re shaping up for exactly the kind of finish everyone expected. It’s a 17-17 tie, and both Allen and Mahomes have delivered with big plays. Surprisingly, JuJu Smith-Schuster has been the steadiest outlet for No. 15 this time around, entering the final quarter with five catches for 113 yards and a score. Not exactly breakaway speed from the ex-Steelers standout, but he’s been in the right places at the right times on K.C.’s biggest drives. The early-game turnovers/red-zone woes helped keep this thing close; now the question is which defense can make the defining play of the day in this last frame. Pinned Pinned Another big deep shot from Allen, this time to Stefon Diggs working on rookie Joshua Williams, who was also beaten by Gabe Davis on the other Allen TD pass. The ball was a bit underthrown, but Diggs had enough separation to corral it anyway. It’s now 17-10 Bills, and Allen is averaging almost nine yards per attempt. Diggs and Davis are already up to a combined 183 receiving yards. Pinned Harrison Butker, good from 62 at the end of the first half, can’t connect on a 51-yarder to cap an 11-play drive by the Chiefs. That was one of Kansas City’s most methodical series of the game, but the kick goes wide left, and it’s still 10-10. Bills will start from their own 33, which means they’ll be well positioned to get their own points on their first drive of the second half. Pinned Mirror image of the last Bills-Chiefs matchup, from the playoffs: K.C. has just over 10 seconds to operate before the break, and Mahomes hits two quick throws to get his squad in field goal range. And then Harrison Butker drills a 62-yard shot to tie it up at 10! Crazy. We go into halftime at 10-10, and this truly has been a dead-even showdown. Pinned Wow. The big-play gambles finally pay off for Buffalo. Josh Allen finds Stefon Diggs downfield to put the Bills in Chiefs territory, and then he lofts a perfect long ball to Gabe Davis. The 34-yard throw was on the money, and Davis just straight-up beat rookie Joshua Williams down the sideline. Not the first time Davis has torched the K.C. secondary. It’s now 10-7 in favor of the visitors. Pinned Back-to-back pressures from Von Miller and Matt Milano contain Mahomes, forcing a Chiefs punt. Suffice to say, it’s been a low-scoring affair so far. Neither side is completing a high percentage of throws, and yet they continue to lean on the downfield game. Isaiah McKenzie, meanwhile, is having an absolute nightmare of a game so far, dropping a wide-open pass from Allen that would’ve brought the Bills out from their own end zone. He’s now had multiple drops and was part of the fumbled exchange with Allen on Buffalo’s first series. Bills fortunate to escape a safety on their latest possession, with Allen just getting out of the end zone on a second-down scramble. Pinned This is a fun watch by nature of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes being the QBs, but it’s not really a good watch in terms of smart, efficient football, at least so far. Both sides are content letting their star signal-callers drop 10-15 yards behind the line on every play, so that they can uncork a big shot. When, in reality, Buffalo for example could just keep running Devin Singletary and be in the red zone every series. There’s not a ton of balance here; just sheer gunslinging. That’s why it’s 7-3 and not 20-17. Pinned A Shaq Lawson sack sets up a rare Chiefs three-and-out, but K.C.’s defense steps up on the ensuing drive to pressure Josh Allen on third-and-long, forcing a throw to no one and producing the Bills’ own three-and-out. These two teams can’t stop copying each other in this game. It’s been a mirror image, except the Chiefs have had the one breakaway play. Pinned Bills once again reach the red zone and cannot get the job done. Three straight incomplete passes to end Buffalo’s bid for points there, with the last one right over the middle to Isaiah McKenzie, who fell as he tried reeling in Josh Allen’s pass, which was just slightly tipped. These teams are now a combined 0 for 3 on red-zone tries. Even worse news for Buffalo: right tackle Spencer Brown is headed to the locker room with an injury suffered on that fourth-and-goal misfire. Chiefs still lead it 7-3. Pinned Josh Allen is a dawg for the way he does not shy away from contact — and, in many cases, embraces it. But man, if you’re a Bills fan, you gotta be on edge every time he runs the ball. A few times in this game already he’s powered into a defender near the sticks and taken big shots. Again, it’s part of what makes him so special, but the ultimate key for Buffalo is keeping him upright. Pinned Where is the Bills’ drive to finish a play on defense? It certainly wasn’t evident on the Chiefs’ last few plays. First Patrick Mahomes is driven back in the pocket and forced to throw the ball away, but had Buffalo’s pursuing D-linemen actually kept running at him, he may have been in danger of taking a deep sack. Then, a few snaps later, Mahomes buys time in the pocket and finds JuJu Smith-Schuster, who escapes two half-hearted tackle attempts while in traffic and easily guides into the end zone, basically untouched, for a 42-yard score. Chiefs now on top 7-3. Pinned Isaiah McKenzie is having a rough day so far. Couldn’t corral the unexpected pitch from Josh Allen on the Bills’ opening drive that wiped away a shot at points. Just got smothered by Justin Reid on a third-down throw that left him flat on his back. But we have our first points now, after the Bills hit a field goal to go up 3-0. Tyler Bass, good for 39, and now it’s back to the Chiefs. Pinned One quarter down. 200 combined yards from the two sides, who have had no trouble moving the ball up and down the field. The Bills’ run game is particularly encouraging, feeding off the threat of Josh Allen airing it out. But zero points thanks to each team getting a little too cute/aggressive in the red zone. This one, as predicted, may well play out as if the last possession wins. Pinned Patrick Mahomes starts just as hot as Josh Allen and seemingly finds Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a TD over the middle, threading the needle with a sidearm zip. But then an ineligible-man-downfield penalty negates the score. Mahomes comes right back and puts a back-shoulder TD throw only where Travis Kelce can get it, but Dane Jackson just barely breaks it up at the last second. Von Miller’s impatience on the very next play, drawing a neutral-zone infraction, gives K.C. new life after the near-TDs, but then the Bills’ front stuffs the Chiefs’ short run attempt. On fourth-and-2, Andy Reid goes for it, and Mahomes picks up the first with his own legs. But then we get a second straight red-zone turnover, as Mahomes forces one to the back of the end zone after scrambling. Kaiir Elam comes down with the takeaway, and we’ve still got no score. Pinned Pinned Bills had been rolling on basically a perfect offensive drive to start this game, marching down the field methodically, keeping Kansas City playing off coverage as Josh Allen hit a wide-open Gabe Davis to start 5 for 5 through the air, and Devin Singletary averaged nine yards per carry running through holes. But then Allen pitched one to...

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Closes London Film Festival With Energetic Premiere Deadline
‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ Closes London Film Festival With Energetic Premiere – Deadline https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/glass-onion-a-knives-out-mystery-closes-london-film-festival-with-energetic-premiere-deadline/ The 66th London Film Festival closed Sunday with a lively screening of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.   Johnson and the film’s A-list cast, including Benoit Blanc a.k.a Daniel Craig, were all in attendance and conducted a brief Q&A onstage following the premiere.  The screening opened, however, with an extended introduction from BFI CEO Ben Roberts, who paid tribute to outgoing BFI Festival director Tricia Tuttle who leaves the BFI after five years in charge of the London Film Festival and over a decade at the body overall.  “I know I speak on behalf of all of us, you are just a fantastic colleague and a really amazing person,” Roberts said of Tuttle, who came onstage and was presented with a bouquet of flowers.  Throughout the screening, the London audience frequently broke out in applause at the film’s surprising cameos and shocking twists, which Johnson was keen to remind the festival audience to protect from people yet to see the film.  “We’re all cool, no spoilers,” he warned before the film started rolling.  During the Q&A, Johnson also had to prompt his actors not to spill any of the film’s twists as their answers were being recorded. Instead, they sidestepped specific plot points and discussed the film’s themes and the expanded scale of the Knives Out universe.  Unlike the first Knives Out film, which was wholly set in and around a New England mansion, Glass Onion is set in Greece and features a vast set of high-tech gadgets, expensive yachts, and a massive real-life piece of glass shaped like an onion.   “All of this started with my love of Agatha Christie and to do what she did with each one of her books, which is something totally different,” Johnson said.  “She wasn’t repeating herself every time. She was not only using new settings and characters but also new narratives, tones, and genres. So I want the audience to know moving forward that that’s what we’re gonna be doing with this.” Later during the Q&A, Daniel Craig, who returns as the famed detective Benoit Blanc in the film, praised Johnson for creating the Knives Out universe and said he would gladly continue to work with the director.  “I’d work with him rest of my life,” Craig said. The Q&A ended with Johnson heaping praise on Janelle Monáe, who plays a lead role in the film and is a crucial part of the film’s shocking twist.  “Without saying why, the degree of difficulty in this role, and the amount of work she put into every scene, I didn’t even appreciate until I put the whole movie together and watched it for the first time,” Johnson said of Monáe. He added: “She’s just extraordinary.” Glass Onion will be released globally on Netflix on December 23, following a theatrical release in select theaters from November 23-29.

Why Crypto Remittance Companies Are Flocking To Mexico Cointelegraph
Why Crypto Remittance Companies Are Flocking To Mexico Cointelegraph
Why Crypto Remittance Companies Are Flocking To Mexico – Cointelegraph https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/why-crypto-remittance-companies-are-flocking-to-mexico-cointelegraph/ Mexico is the second-largest recipient of remittances in the world, according to 2021 World Bank statistics. Remittances to the nation jumped to a record $5.3 billion in July, which is a 16.5% increase year-over-year compared to the same period last year. The steady growth presents myriad opportunities for fintech companies. Not surprisingly, droves of crypto companies are setting up shop in Mexico to claim a share of the burgeoning remittance market. Over the past year alone, about half a dozen crypto giants, including Coinbase, have set up operations in the country. In February, Coinbase unveiled a crypto transfer service tailored to United States-based clients looking to send crypto remittances to Mexico. The product enabled recipients in Mexico to withdraw their money in pesos. Other companies have since joined the foray. In August, the Malaysia-based Belfrics digital currency exchange announced plans to open crypto transfer operations in Mexico. According to the published communique, the firm will start by launching blockchain wallet and remittance service solutions. Another notable company that is jostling for a share of the Mexican crypto remittance market is Tether. In May, the crypto company launched the MXNT stablecoin, which is pegged to the Mexican peso. According to the enterprise, the collateralized digital currency will help customers to navigate volatility and use cryptocurrencies as a store of value. Besides the new entrants, local Mexican crypto companies such as Bitso, which is one of the largest crypto exchanges in the Latin American nation, are already making moves to enhance their reach in an increasingly competitive market. In November 2021, the Mexican firm established an alliance with U.S.-based Circle Solutions. The collaboration allowed the agency to use Circle’s payment system to facilitate U.S.-to-Mexico crypto remittances. Cointelegraph had the opportunity to speak with Eduardo Cruz, head of business operations and enterprise solutions at Bitso, about the factors driving the crypto remittance trend in Mexico. He cited high bank transaction costs, slow settlement times and the lack of access to banking facilities as some of the factors pushing the masses toward crypto remittances. He also highlighted recent alliances that have helped Mexican crypto companies bring crypto remittance services closer to nationals around the world, thereby boosting their adoption. “For example, Bitso’s clients such as Africhange, which recently integrated Canada–Mexico crypto-powered remittance services to Bitso, and Everest, which enables remittances from the United States, Europe and Singapore into Mexico, are offering a cheaper and faster way to send money to Mexico,” he said. Factors driving the Mexican crypto remittance sector One of the biggest factors driving the Mexican crypto remittance sector today is the huge Mexican population residing in the diaspora. Presently, the U.S. and Canada have the highest number of Mexican immigrants. According to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2020, there are approximately 62.1 million Hispanic people residing in the U.S. today, with Mexicans comprising 61.6% of this population. Going by 2021 numbers, money sent to Mexico from the U.S. accounted for about 94.9% of all remittances, while Mexicans residing in Canada sent $231 million in the second quarter of 2022. In a nutshell, the rising number of Mexicans migrating to the U.S. and Canada is pushing remittances to new levels, and the high demand is spilling over to the crypto payments industry. The decline of the Mexican peso and the emergence of a strong dollar have also contributed to the spike in remittances over the past couple of years. Recent: Smart contract-enabled insurance holds promise, but can it be scaled? This phenomenon has occurred in previous crises, such as the 2008 financial crisis, which plunged the Mexican economy into turmoil. In times like this, Mexican institutions and investors usually tend to seek refuge in the greenback, which typically has a higher buying power. In March 2020, when coronavirus lockdowns began, the U.S. dollar’s purchasing power jumped by approximately 30% in Mexico. At the same time, the average remittance transfer to Mexico increased from $315 to $343. Today, the availability of dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies allows Mexicans living in the diaspora to leverage the heightened buying power of the USD to make investments and purchases in their home country, hence the higher remittance rates. Greater convenience Blockchain technology eliminates third-party mediators from transaction processes, which leads to lower transaction costs and less time used when undertaking remittance transactions. Cointelegraph caught up with Structure.fi president and co-founder Bryan Hernandez to discuss the impact of these factors on the Mexican remittance market. His company operates a mobile trading platform that gives investors exposure to traditional and crypto financial markets: “Crypto businesses see a huge opportunity here to streamline (conventional money transfer) processes using blockchain technology. Using crypto, cross-border payments can be made directly with little or no fees instantaneously.”  In Mexico, many financial institutions are also located far away from rural areas, and this makes it hard for the locals to access financial services. Crypto remittance solutions are beginning to close this gap by enabling citizens in such areas to access their money without having to travel long distances. Moreover, they are able to serve the unbanked. As things stand, over 50% of Mexicans lack a bank account. This makes crypto remittance solutions convenient for citizens in this demographic, as all that’s needed to receive funds is a crypto wallet address. Another reason why more Mexicans are embracing the crypto remittance fad is their distrust of banks. Mexicans living in the diaspora are sometimes subjected to redlining practices, and this has led to more people using crypto remittance solutions. Dmitry Ivanov, chief marketing officer at CoinsPaid — a crypto payments firm — told Cointelegraph that the wider use of crypto remittance networks in Mexico was bound to boost adoption overall. “The clear advantage of digital currencies is what is paving the way for their broad-based adoption in the country and the Latin American world as a whole,” he said, adding: “The benefits derived from digital currencies have made Mexicans see how exploitative banks have been thus far with their charges, and the general comparative inefficiency has made them distrust traditional financial institutions in general. With a little more regulatory push, the country’s remittance inflow may be dominated by cryptocurrencies.” A few hurdles Blockchain remittance solutions provide a raft of important benefits to Mexican users, such as fast transfers and lower transaction fees. However, they have to overcome some fundamental challenges to dominate the cross-border payments market. The technical nature of crypto platforms, and limited local currency withdrawal options, for example, present some unique challenges that are likely to slow down adoption. Mexican citizens also still prefer using cash to make payments. According to the 2021 McKinsey Global Payments Report, Mexico was ranked top among countries projected to have high cash usage over the next couple of years. Recent: To HODL or have kids? The IVF Bitcoin Babies paid for with BTC profits The research report forecasts that consumer cash payments will account for about 81.5% of all transactions in Mexico by 2025. This presents a major hurdle for crypto adoption in the country, despite rising crypto remittance figures. Going forward, it will be interesting to see how the tech-savvy and crypto evangelists navigate the challenges facing adoption and take advantage of the momentum provided by the growing remittances industry.

Vibe Check: US House Candidates Campaign Headquarters KTOO
Vibe Check: US House Candidates Campaign Headquarters KTOO
Vibe Check: US House Candidates’ Campaign Headquarters – KTOO https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/vibe-check-us-house-candidates-campaign-headquarters-ktoo/ We often judge political campaigns by the money they raise and the image they project in their ads. We thought up another measure: What’s the ambience at their campaign headquarters? Channeling Architectural Digest, we went to check the vibes at the Anchorage headquarters of the three main U.S. House candidates — Mary Peltola, Nick Begich and Sarah Palin. Mary Peltola campaign, Spenard Road Architecture: 1980s strip mall Nearest neighbor: Pet supply shop, in next storefront We dropped in without notice and were greeted at the front desk by Fletcher Harris, who appears in Peltola campaign videos as the guy who delivers yard signs. Upon learning that the guest is a reporter, Organizing Director Rene Martin stepped in. The office is mostly empty. “On a day with blue skies this is actually very good news, because it means everyone is out knocking doors,” Martin said. This is a huge limitation of judging a campaign by its headquarters: So much of the work doesn’t take place here. But some of the campaign energy and and character comes through, so we carry on with our vibe check and challenge Martin to describe the decor. “Oh boy,” he said, searching his brain for interior design terms. “Campaign casual?” The room behind the front desk is large and haphazardly furnished, with mismatched chairs and desks in no particular alignment. A large dog toy — a half-chewed rope — is on the floor. “Yeah, our campaign mascot is Rainy,” Martin said. “He’s on loan to us from our digital consultants.” The dog, like almost everyone else, was out that afternoon. The Peltola campaign didn’t have its own offices until after she found out she’d won the special election. Martin said the organization has been rapidly growing. He is an experienced campaign hand from Cleveland, one of several non-Alaskans working here. Nick Begich III campaign, Northern Lights Boulevard Architecture: 1980s strip mall. Nearest neighbors: A wig store and a private motor vehicle licensing office. On our first attempt to visit the door was locked. We called for an appointment and, the next morning, the candidate greeted us at the entrance of his impressive headquarters. “Yeah, it’s spacious,” he said. It’s more than spacious. It’s unusually put-together for a campaign office. The walls have a designer color scheme — chartreuse, teal and coral pink. Even the cubicle dividers look cool, with a bold red graphic design. Begich said he rented it furnished, and it looked like this when he got it. “It was a turnkey space,” he said. A previous tenant sold office furniture. Begich figures it was set up to show off the wares. A small team sits around a conference table, quietly putting rubber bands on campaign leaflets. Begich shows me the small upstairs, where his desk is. It’s a Zoom-ready space, with innocuous framed art as a backdrop. Out of camera range are more personal items. “I have an ironing board — I do iron my own shirts if I need to — and a pillow,” Begich said. “Because I work sometimes 16-hour days. And sometimes I’ll just have to crash for about 30 minutes.” He has been campaigning for the seat for about a year. He worked out of his house for months, and now here. “And I go full-time on this, like it’s a start-up.” Start-up — that’s what the vibe is here: Tech start up. Sarah Palin campaign, aka Ward Realty, Old Seward Highway Architecture: Low-slung commercial space, built in 1960s and painted blue Nearest neighbor: Judy’s Cafe, across the parking lot The door is unlocked on a sunny afternoon. Campaign volunteer and building owner Margaret Ward greeted an unexpected drop-in warmly from a little table by the window. She’s quick to laugh. We barely started chatting before her husband arrived. “Oh, here’s Jerry!” she said. Palin senior campaign advisor Jerry Ward said he’d been out checking on six volunteers who were knocking on doors nearby. Ward was Donald Trump’s main campaign guy in Alaska and helped arrange the Trump rally in Anchorage in July. The room, along with huge “Sarah for Alaska” signs, has colored strip lights, tinsel and crepe paper streamers. “My grandkids did this and this is beautiful. Red, white and blue,” Ward said. “And there’s a balloon over there, too.” Yes, just one. It’s blue, with stars on it. If it was ever lighter than air, it’s not now. It dangles from its tether on the wall. Back at the little table by the window, the Wards talk about their grandchildren and their long Alaska heritage. In the center of the table is a bible, with a custom cover that’s inscribed with family names. Jerry Ward said he brought it from home so he could do on-the-spot research. “People will come in and quote the Bible to me and I have to look it up,” he said. “I don’t know it by heart.” Who comes in and quotes Bible verses at him? “Different people have done it,” he said. “Not everyone. Some people just want a button or a sticker, or they want to know how they can get a picture with Sarah Palin and Donald Trump.” This headquarters is more of a reflection of the Wards. But it does share elements that Palin projects — It’s homey, personality-driven, and has Trump’s seal of approval.

Could Solar-Powered Headphones Be The Next Must-Have? BBC
Could Solar-Powered Headphones Be The Next Must-Have? – BBC https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/could-solar-powered-headphones-be-the-next-must-have-bbc/ Image source, Adidas Image caption, Adidas and Urbanista now both make headphones that are solar powered By Nick Dauk and Will Smale Business reporters If you are the type of person who is forever forgetting to charge your wireless headphones, help may finally be on hand. It comes as the first commercially available solar-powered headphones are now on sale. The models, by Swedish firm Urbanista and German sports giant Adidas, both have solar panels built into their headbands. In each case the flexible panels are made by another Swedish company, Exeger, which has spent the past decade working to make them light, thin and powerful enough to do the job. Exeger’s boss Giovanni Fili says it is both a matter of convenience and, more importantly, doing the right thing environmentally. “Charging – everyone hates it,” he says. “But every time you don’t charge [using mains electricity] it is a good thing for the world. “The new generation of young adults expect to be offered tools to do good [for the environment], and that is what we are offering.” Exeger’s solar panels are called Powerfoyle, and they are just 2mm thick. The technology is based around strips of titanium dioxide covered in a natural dye. In very simple terms, the dye absorbs photons from light, which are then converted into electrons. Media caption, Nano ink solar cells charge tech in any light While approximately only half as efficient as standard silicon-based solar panels of the same size, the titanium dioxide panels are, in addition to being significantly thinner, much cheaper and easier to produce. The solar-powered headphones still have a built-in battery that can power up to 80 hours of playback time. It is this that the Powerfoyle strip charges. Mr Fili says that currently the tech can create one hour’s worth of power “from just 20 minutes of English or Swedish summer sunshine”. Yet the panels can also create some power from artificial light, such as indoor lighting, so the idea is that the headphones are always charging unless it is the dead of night. And the headphones also still have a power socket if back-up power is required after heavy usage. Mr Fili adds that solar panels are unlikely to be added to mobile phones any time soon, because so many of us keep our handset in a pocket, and therefore it doesn’t have access to light. Instead he envisages the panels being fitted to people’s clothing and bags, and phones to be charged from these. Image source, Exeger Image caption, Exeger’s boss Giovanni Fili predicts that the firm’s solar panels will be fitted to clothing and bags Finnish company Planno is already making fabrics that have built-in solar panelling. The firm is led by Elina Ilén, who is also a professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia’s Department of Textile and Paper Engineering, and a leading expert on wearable textile electronics. Rather than producing clothing that can charge your mobile phone, the firm instead focuses on washable garments with built-in, solar-powered sensors. These can monitor various aspects of the wearer’s health, such as heart rate, temperature, posture, sleep quality and body fat levels. “Although these solar cells do produce enough energy to power wearable devices, placing a solar cell behind a textile will never have the same efficiency of harvesting energy as a solar cell in direct sunlight,” says Ms Ilén. Image source, Planno Image caption, Planno’s solar panels are fitted on the underside of clothing “The textile’s thickness, density, structure, colour and finishing treatments will all have an impact on the amount of energy-harvesting potential.” She adds: “Textile-based wearables are one of the best solutions for continuous health monitoring because product acceptability is easier to achieve. Patients are already wearing clothing, this technology can be hidden beneath the fabric to ensure comfort and discretion.” Image source, Planno Image caption, Planno hopes that its clothing, such as these jackets, is also visually appealing At Loughborough University researchers are taking a different approach to power-generating fabrics. Instead of using solar cells, they are harvesting the static electricity created when a person moves, and turning that into useable power. The technology is based around tiny power converters called triboelectric nanogenerators (tengs). These are made from fibres such as cotton, polyester and nylon, which are covered in a polymer coating that attracts static. These flexible, stretchable, washable tengs can then be woven or knitted into the fabric of items of clothing. “Our group is investigating how we can use regular textile materials and textile fabrication techniques to produce efficient tengs for wearable applications,” says project leader Ishara Dharmasena. “The aim is to produce energy-generating textiles like T-shirts, base layers and trousers which are very similar to our regular clothing, but capable of generating electricity or acting as sensors to measure body movements.” Image source, Loughborough University Image caption, Ishara Dharmasena demonstrates the stretchable nature of his tengs technology Dr Dharmasena, a Royal Academy of Engineering research fellow and lecturer at Loughborough, adds that in the future tengs could be used in conjunction with solar panels to create hybrid power-generating clothing. Denise Wilson, author of the book Wearable Solar Systems, hopes to see the market for solar-powered clothing expand greatly in the coming years. “I think that we could benefit from more imagination when it comes to marketing wearable solar packs,” says Prof Wilson, from the University of Washington’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. New Tech Economy is a series exploring how technological innovation is set to shape the new emerging economic landscape. “We have not yet taken advantage of what they can fully offer us in the global community.” She adds that the biggest area for growth will likely be clothing that can charge mobile phones and other portable electronic devices. “For the average consumer, it may mean being able to charge on the go.” But she adds that for such clothing to find widespread popularity, the solar panel systems will need to last at least one year without a significant loss of efficiency.

Dreaming Of Sleeping In A Castle? Here’s Where To Rent One – TheTravel https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/dreaming-of-sleeping-in-a-castle-heres-where-to-rent-one-thetravel/ Our ideas of a great vacation are as different as our ideas about a healthy diet. To some, it’s backpacking while camping in some remote forest jungle like the Amazon. For others, it’s the beach, the sunsets, the stunning views. Yet others can’t just get enough of museums where stories like that of the Titanic, as well as human genius, are re-told—on one side—or exhibited. But whether one loves backpacking, the beach, or museums, a vacation that involves seeing a medieval castle, perhaps even entering one is a surreal experience. Sleeping where powerful monarchs once slept and sitting where they sat can be an experience of a lifetime. In some of these castles, decisions were made that would change the course of history forever. But there were scandals as well. It’s possible to have this kind of vacation. In this article, we reveal some famous castles in Europe that vacationers can rent. Kilkenny Castle: Ireland’s Best-Kept Secret Steeped in fascinating history, the 15th-century Kilkenny’s Tubbrid Castle offers visitors the rare chance to live like a medieval king. In AD 942, and in an attempt to avenge his allies who had been attacked, Muircheartach, a king of Munster, one of the Five-Fifths of Ireland, and later self-declared High King of Ireland marched his troops over to Kilkenny which sat right at the edge of enemy territory. He would rest here and relax before embarking on his military offensive. The Circuit of Ireland—a poem immortalizing this battle—survives. However, the construction of a castle on the site where Muircheartach rested would wait for about 500 years when in the 15th century, Margaret FitzGerald, Countess of Ormond—and a member of the powerful and celebrated FitzGerald dynasty—constructed the castle, even sleeping in it at one time to protect herself from enemy attacks. Defying time and tide, the castle holds over 600 years and more—in its regal walls. Just before its full restoration, it had gone out of use for over 100 years. Today, it combines the old-world look and appeal—with conveniences of modern life like central heating—which is quite rare for a castle, let alone a medieval castle. It’s quietly serene with magical views on all sides. Where Is Tubbrid Castle Located? Tubbrid Castle is 20.3 kilometers, or about a 20-minute drive from Kilkenny City—on the western side via Lacken. While visitors may spend upwards of $1,662 for a minimum 2-night stay at this castle, the cost per head can dip to as low as $208, depending on the number of guests. This is an amazing place to indulge the inner prince. According to some accounts, this castle was built in AD 919. That means visitors to this secluded gem will have over 1,100 years of history to explore, admire—and just gaze at. Llaés Castle is set in the backdrop of lofty mountain peaks and has a striking appearance of a fortress. While many castles are usually quiet and serene, this castle is ridiculously quiet—even if birds occasionally break the almost unnerving silence. The views around are to die for. Stretched out before the eyes are craggy mountain tops or lush pastures where one can spot shepherds tending their flock of sheep in the distance. Other buildings in this castle complex include the tribute tower, the Saint Bartomeu Church, a small cemetery, and the courtyard of arms. While this castle doesn’t offer the premium luxury of a Ritz-Carlton or a Waldorf Astoria—and has some amenities that don’t look modern—a stay here will still be exciting just for the experiences like taking local wines on the balcony while admiring the forested mountains all around. The castle has eight double rooms (five of which have double beds) and has a capacity to accommodate 16 guests or even 21 with auxiliary beds. Visitors can rent the entire castle, rent the 10-person Tower Apartment, or the 6-person School Apartment. While one will need $1,350 to rent the entire castle, the School Apartment goes for as little as $400. Finally, this castle is in Llaés, 15 km from Ripoll. The Positano Watchtower On The Amalfi Coast Blends The Old And The New To fend off attacks by the feared Saracens as well as pirates, Normans would build a guardian tower on a promontory along the stunning Amalfi shoreline in the 13th century. Also called Silja Tower or “Torre Silja,” this castle has been redesigned so that it almost looks like a 21st-century building. It sits literally by the sea, is a short walk from Positano Town and can house up to eight guests. How Much Is Accommodation At Silja Tower? Accommodation for the minimum 2-night stay duration at Silja Tower is $3, 371 for the two days. Finally, this castle is located in the incomparable Positano, one of Italy’s most romantic vacation destinations. That’s it. While we may not be kings, we can still live as kings—literally. And for that, there’s no better place to stay than in a medieval castle. %

Honeywell Sees Strong Growth Ahead For Bizav Aviation International News
Honeywell Sees Strong Growth Ahead For Bizav – Aviation International News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/honeywell-sees-strong-growth-ahead-for-bizav-aviation-international-news/ The business aviation market could see as many as 8,500 new jet deliveries worth $274 billion over the next decade, according to the just-released results from Honeywell Aerospace’s 31st annual Global Business Aviation Outlook. It also calls for 700 business jet deliveries this year, and a 17 percent increase next year, along with a 20 percent boost over 2022 billings. Based on the results of this year’s survey and airframer backlogs, that trend will continue through the next decade. “I would say the most surprising thing was the 15 percent jump in the 10-year forecast, not just in terms of units, but also in terms of expenditures,” said Javier Jimenez Serrano, strategy and market research manager at Honeywell Aerospace (Booths 2400B and 4100). New jet deliveries and expenditures are projected to grow at a 2 percent annual average rate, keeping pace with worldwide economic growth. The forecast extrapolates direct results from the annual survey of operators chosen from the global pool based on market segment, geographic area, and type of aircraft used for the first half of the 10-year forecast window, and then distills econometric data for the remaining five years. Operator five-year purchase plans are up by three percentage points compared with last year’s survey results, reaching pre-Covid 2019 levels and equaling a 17 percent replacement of the current fleet. “Demand for new business jets is as high as we’ve seen since 2015, and we expect high levels of demand and expenditures for new aircraft for several more years,” said Heath Patrick, president of Honeywell Aerospace’s Americas aftermarket division. Based on the results of the survey, operators are expressing strong optimism in 2022, with an overwhelming 96 percent believing they will fly as much or more next year. “The business aviation industry is greatly benefitting from a wave of first-time users and buyers due in part to changing habits brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic,” explained Patrick. “The business aviation sector is expected to recover to 2019 delivery and expenditure levels by 2023, which is much sooner than previously expected.” Those first-time users helped buoy the industry at times this year to flight utilization rates not seen since 2007, the high water mark for business aviation. In response to industry concerns about whether those new customers will remain, 74 percent of new users surveyed said they expect to keep the same level of flying in 2023 as they did in 2022. Over the next five years, Honeywell expects the large and long-range jet categories will account for 70 percent of all new jet expenditures and will total 38 percent of all unit purchases, compared with 26 percent for the medium cabin and 36 percent for the light jet categories. “That is driven by the clean sheet new offerings entering service there: the [Gulfstream] G700 and G800, [Dassault] Falcon 10x, and the recently announced [Bombardier] Global 8000,” Serrano told AIN. “We also see growth in the large-cabin category that is currently where the Challenger 650 and Falcon 2000 are. It’s an area that has been neglected frankly, those designs are from the 1990s. We saw that area of the market starting to grow with the G400, but we expect that there will be more clean sheet refreshes in that area, and the market will support them.” Among its survey questions, Honeywell also queried respondents about their sustainability efforts, with half indicating they are implementing at least one method to reduce their carbon footprint, a rate 30 percent higher than last year. Among the methods cited, the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) ranked third behind “fewer or slower private jet trips,” and “increasing passenger capacity,” with many operators noting challenges in SAF availability. Yet, 37 percent of respondents say they believe SAF will be the most common way for them to operate in a more environmentally friendly manner in the future. Based on the results of this year’s survey, more than 60 percent of operators plan to either adopt or increase their sustainability efforts.

Marathon Runner On Living And Running With MS Prevention Magazine
Marathon Runner On Living And Running With MS – Prevention Magazine https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/marathon-runner-on-living-and-running-with-ms-prevention-magazine/ I started training for my first marathon in 2016. I’m competitive by nature, so I had high expectations of myself and was excited to show off my skills to my family in my hometown of Chicago. But things didn’t go as I’d planned. During the race, I had trouble lifting my foot. I stopped for a while in the medical tent and ended up walking, rather than running, to the finish line. It wasn’t the way I’d hoped to finish but I figured that a visit to a doctor in Houston, where I live, would get me through my injury. By the time I went to the doctor, though, I was noticing other symptoms that caught me off guard. For instance, not only was I having trouble lifting my foot (known as foot drop), I was feeling exhausted daily and often I wasn’t able to feel my extremities. The doctor told me I didn’t have a sports injury and that instead I should see a neurologist. After several frustrating months of appointments and testing—including an MRI and bloodwork— I was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis, which is a disease that develops when the immune system attacks the central nervous system and causes nerve damage. The “progressive” part of my diagnosis meant that my symptoms would continue to get worse and would drastically limit my functioning. Oddly enough, getting the diagnosis was a bit of a relief because I finally knew the reason I was experiencing tremors, numbness, and fatigue. Of course, I was also scared, but I was referred to an MS clinic near me and I trusted that the doctors there would help me. Living life with MS To my shock, I was told that based on my neurological loss, I would have only about five more years until I’d be confined to a wheelchair. They told me to travel and do all the things I wanted to do while I was still able. Not wanting to think about the future, my husband Joe and I chose to focus on the present and travel to as many places on our bucket list as possible, as quickly as we could. More From Prevention In April of 2019, we took our first bucket-list trip to Ireland. As luck would have it, there was an MS run/walk happening there and we signed up. In the race packet, I read about “HSCT” (technically called hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) for the first time, which was described as an experimental treatment that could stop MS progression by essentially wiping out your immune system then receiving healthy stem cells to “reset” it. There are trials underway here, but it’s not available in the U.S. as a standard treatment option—and it’s extremely expensive, risky, and new. So I put it on the back burner and continued to focus on making the moments I had count. I continued running, but it was getting harder and harder. Even though I didn’t want to acknowledge it, I had to come to terms with the fact that my racing days were limited. I remember telling my running partner that once it became impossible for me to run, I’d just cheer her on. But I was hard headed and wasn’t going to stop without a fight. What my invisible disability looks like I usually didn’t even appear to have a disability to the outside world. In fact, when I was first diagnosed and got the handicap placard for my car, people actually yelled at me for using a handicap space because they didn’t think I had a true disability. That would upset me, but I’m not one to yell out my personal diagnosis across a parking lot to someone who is unimportant to my life, so I tried to ignore that as much as I could. One thing that helped, however, was that I got a therapy dog, named Hope, who was trained through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to recognize and assist with tremors and seizures. I put a vest on her that said, “I’m visible. Her disability isn’t.” As Joe and I were about to fly to Paris on our second bucket-list trip—where I was planning to run my last half marathon ever—I came to a realization. There I was in the airport, using a cane (albeit a cute one), wearing an e-brace on my leg (a device that sends electrical shocks to help me lift my foot), and watching Joe lug around a big wheelchair the doctors had suggested we bring just in case I needed it. And it struck me that if I didn’t try to stop the progression of my MS, we were headed for a lifetime with that wheelchair and a future where my husband and daughter would have to wait on me hand and foot. So Joe and I decided we had to at least see if I was a candidate for HSCT. The treatment is not for everyone with MS, but I qualified for it, and we hurried to make arrangements to go the HSCT clinic in Mexico in January 2020. I had a lot of fears and there was a 20 to 30 percent chance that the treatment wouldn’t work, but I felt that this was my shot, and I had to take it. Patrick Pressgrove Where I am today The treatment wasn’t easy, but I really did go into the clinic with my cane, and walked out of the clinic a month later on my own. It was surreal. Afterwards, my physical therapist helped me to strengthen the muscles I’d stopped using and retrain my weakened body, and slowly but surely, I learned to walk and run with an improved gait that helps me control my foot. I wasn’t the same runner I was before my MS diagnosis but I was determined to run marathons again because training puts me in a positive mindset and gives me something to work toward. I soon learned that I qualified for the 2021 Boston Marathon as an adaptive athlete (a person with disabilities who is allowed modifications during sports competitions) and I went for it. Unfortunately, during the race, I had to stop at mile 20 because I suffered an extreme bout of foot drop. I had to move forward carefully so as not to cause further damage, which is a risk when the muscles are strained. I was disappointed that I had to walk the rest of the way to the finish line, but the experience led me to an even more exciting opportunity: I was picked by Degree Deodorant to get another chance at finishing a marathon as one of their “Not Done Yet” runners for the San Francisco Marathon in July 2022. I was thrilled because being a part of the campaign would enable me to spread the word about HSCT and show others that those of us with disabilities can break barriers. I trained hard for this one. And it paid off. When I ran across that finish line, it was momentous. It was definitely an “ugly cry” moment. Now, I’m ready for more. I’m back in training for my next marathon. I still have tremors when my muscles are fatigued. I also have to be very particular in my movements in order to do things that were once simple, and that takes a lot of extra effort and focus. But I push through it because it’s worth it and because I’m not going to let MS define me. I might stumble but I don’t quit, and I hope that inspires other people with disabilities to go for their goals, too. Back to the We Are Not Invisible project

The game also had overarching ramifications, with the league’s overtime rules getting a bit massaged moving forward. This year has shown more of the same 2021 dominance from both squads. Even with a rebuilt wide receiver room, the Chiefs, driven by Mahomes, have found a way to move the ball and get their new receivers involved often; they’ve also relied heavily on old reliable Travis Kelce, who secured four TD passes on Monday night against the Raiders. The Bills have made several statements so far in 2022: They demolished the defending champion Raiders and AFC championship hopeful Titans and outlasted the Ravens for three of their four wins so far this year. FaZe Holdings: Focusing On Growth, I’m On The Sidelines (NASDAQ:FAZE) – Seeking Alpha https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/faze-holdings-focusing-on-growth-im-on-the-sidelines-nasdaqfaze-seeking-alpha/ gorodenkoff/iStock via Getty Images Los Angeles-based gaming outfit FaZe (NASDAQ:FAZE) went public with little fanfare and near-zero hype in sharp contrast to its esports competitions and media platform. The company took the now largely dead path of using a blank check company to list its shares on NASDAQ in a deal that would value it at $725 million. It is now worth $338.6 million with the common shares down 53% from the SPAC reference price. The go-public market valuation had already been reduced by 25% from when the deal was initially announced last year. Can the company turn its large social media following and esports legacy into concrete year-over-year revenue growth and eventual profit? It depends on who you ask. FaZe already has a small share of bears who have been clear about their criticism of the company. Indeed, the 12-year-old company has quite a vivid history with a plethora of controversy and negative headlines. However, that’s to be expected for a space as young, erratic, and chaotic as esports. FaZe at its core is a video game company. The company was started back in 2010 by a bunch of Call of Duty players who met on Xbox Live and then started a YouTube channel together to show compilations of sniper trick shots and general gaming antics. It has since grown to encompass around 11 competitive esports teams in games like Fortnite and Counter-Strike. The company counts Snoop Dogg on its board and sells t-shirts, sweatpants, and other merch on its website. Critically, FaZe has been a part of online gaming culture for years. This position has allowed the company to build a large and young audience of both millennials and Gen Z across its social media platforms where it has over 510 million followers combined. Whilst large, a significant number of these are likely to be overlapping with followers engaging with multiple FaZe Clan members. Revenue Ramp Built On Brand Strength FaZe last reported earnings for its fiscal 2022 second quarter in August, the first as a public company. This saw revenue come in at $18.8 million, a 22% increase over the year-ago quarter. The company realized a gross profit of $6.4 million as its gross margin on revenue at 34% increased by 868 basis points sequentially and from a gross margin of 13.62% in the year-ago quarter. Net losses for the quarter came in at $9.3 million, an increase from $7.6 million in the year-ago quarter with cash burn from operations coming in at $16 million. This rate of cash burn is problematic. Firstly, it was the highest rate ever recorded despite the higher revenues and was a more than 122% increase from its comparable year-ago quarter. Further, free cash outflow was $17.6 million during the quarter with capital expenditure at $1.6 million. Secondly, the company only managed to raise net proceeds of $57.8 million from its go-public transaction. This was down from an initially estimated $218 million that was meant to come from a combination of PIPE investors and cash from B. Riley Principal, the SPAC sponsor. Redemptions came in at 92% and $71.4 million of $100 million in PIPE commitments defaulted on their obligations. At the current rate of burn, the company should have just under a full year left. Of course, FaZe will likely lean on dilution to expand out this runway with management already taking steps to grow their topline in the hopes it flows through to the bottom. The company is also gearing to sell new shares with the recent filing of a Notice of Effectiveness with the SEC. FaZe is aiming to issue an additional 5.9 million common shares. The filing also creates the option for share sales by existing shareholders once the share lockup period ends. Will Sandwiches Help The Commons? FaZe is exploring other methods to use its brand to make money with gambling and ghost kitchens being thrown in the hat. In this pursuit to monetize the FaZe brand, the company has partnered with a decentralized gaming virtual world called The Sandbox to develop a plot of land. FaZe World will host virtual events, games, and digital product releases and will allow new ways for the company’s followers to engage with the FaZe Clan roster. The company also partnered with DoorDash (DASH) to launch FaZe Subs, a ghost kitchen brand. The eclectic mix of revenue drivers from the metaverse and sandwiches to clothing does not paint an entirely strong picture but is necessary for growth. I am not a buyer here though. The high cash burn and dilutive roadmap to plug this do not entice confidence. FaZe will likely see its common come under sustained pressure towards the beginning of the first quarter of the 2023 calendar year when the share lockup expires and as it executes on its share offering. Salmon Piccata The Delicous Life
Salmon Piccata The Delicous Life
Salmon Piccata – The Delicous Life https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/salmon-piccata-the-delicous-life/ Omega-3-rich salmon gets the classic treatment of lemon and capers for a dish that comes together in minutes. Salmon Piccata is easy enough for a weeknight, and dressed up with a bottle of wine it’s special enough for the weekend! Currently obsessed with all things Piccata, whether it’s this Salmon Piccata, traditional Chicken Piccata, Cauliflower Piccata, Piccata sauce tossed with pasta, spread onto flatbread, massaged into my neck and shoulders… you know, all the good things. Jump to: What is Piccata What You Need for Any Piccata (the Basics) What Salmon to Use for Piccata FAQs, Tips and Techniques for Salmon Piccata What Side Dish to Serve with Salmon Piccata Wine for Salmon Piccata More Salmon Recipes Salmon Piccata Recipe What is Piccata Classic “piccata” is made with chicken breasts or veal cutlets that have been pounded into thin flat cutlets that get dredged in flour, fried, and served with a lemon caper sauce. Piccata’s origin story of how it became a weeknight dinner hero is mostly unknown because Chicken Piccata, the version we know in the United States, doesn’t seem to exist in Italy. There is something similar, made with veal. Most likely, the piccata we know is an Italian-American dish, and Salmon Piccata? Non-traditional, but totally delicious. In the Salmon Piccata version, we’re swapping out chicken for omega-3-rich salmon, and leaving out the flour dredging step. That flour coating helps protect chicken/veal from overcooking and drying out and thickens the sauce. We don’t have to worry about overcooking the salmon because oh my god we would never, and we don’t mind a light, bright, thin pan sauce. This Salmon Piccata recipe is: dairy-free (if using plant-based butter, see below for the brand I use) gluten-free anti-inflammatory What You Need for Any Piccata (the Basics) Garlic. You can use any form of garlic for Piccata: sliced, chopped, minced. Because this dish is meant to be fast and easy, I use a garlic press, then scrape the garlic directly from the press into the pan. Olive Oil. I used this olive oil that’s pretty widely available, though it is not organic. Butter. I use this plant-based butter when cooking dairy-free. If you can tolerate dairy, use any regular butter. It doesn’t matter if it’s salted or unsalted, the sauce will be very salty from the capers either way. Lemons: You will use both the zest and juice from lemons, so try to find organic lemons with generally clean looking skins. Capers. Use the small, non-pareil capers in liquid brine, which gets drained off. If you use capers in dry salt, soak the capers in plain water for about 15 minutes. This store brand is organic. White Wine. To de-glaze the pan after cooking the salmon, I use whatever white wine I have open and am drinking while cooking. A citrus-forward Sauvignon Blanc or unoaked Chardonnay are great choices here. Chicken Stock. I have frozen homemade chicken bone broth, but use any low-sodium chicken stock. This is a great brand I keep in the pantry for emergencies. Parsley. Use Italian flat-leaf parsley, not the curly leaf parsley (unless that’s the only kind you can find). All other fresh herbs and produce from either the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market on Wednesday, or Whole Foods Market when I can’t find what I need at the farmers’ market. What Salmon to Use for Piccata Wild king salmon has historically been my favorite, and is generally in season May-September. King salmon is richer in texture but slightly lighter in flavor than other varieties of salmon like coho and sockeye. In Los Angeles, I get my seafood from Santa Monica Seafood. As of publication of this post, Whole Foods seafood department has fresh (not previously frozen) wild King salmon for $26.99/pound. If wild king salmon is not available, try sockeye salmon, which is becoming the new house favorite. Sockeye has a more robust color and flavor than king salmon, which is great for those of us who love other more intensely flavored things like anchovies and sardines. It is also leaner than other varieties of salmon, which is great because Piccata has a lot of sauce for it to swim in. Sockeye salmon is a smaller fish, so the fillets will be thinner, which means it cooks faster too, making it even better for a busy weeknight. You can substitute almost any other fish for salmon, even thin delicate fish like petrale sole. Simply adjust the cooking time on the fish to account for thinner fillets. FAQs, Tips and Techniques for Salmon Piccata Q: How much salmon should I buy?  A: Allot 4-6 oz of salmon for each serving, which amounts to 1-1½ pounds total for this recipe. Cooked salmon will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days, so go ahead and make the bigger portion. You will be happy to flake the leftovers into pasta or a bowl of whole grains and drizzle with leftover lemony, caper-y piccata sauce the next day. Q: What type of skillet or pan should I use to sear salmon? A: I use a cast iron skillet, which has naturally become “non-stick” over the years. If you are new to pan-searing salmon, use a non-stick pan. Q: Double or half the recipe? A: You can very easily ratio the recipe up or down! In fact, if you double just the sauce ingredients, you can use it as a sauce for pasta to serve with the salmon! Q: Cook in advance?  A: Yes! You can make the Piccata sauce in advance. The sauce will keep in the refrigerator in a sealed container for about three days. However, the recipe comes together so quickly, there’s no need to do anything too far in advance. Q: Adding grated Parmesan at the end? A: NO. For some reason, people always want to put grated Parmesan on any dish that sounds even vaguely Italian. Don’t do it. Cheese and fish absolutely do not belong together. Do not put cheese of any kind on this dish. No parmesan. If you feel the need for flair to “finish” a dish, rain down more chopped fresh parsley. Fresh cracked black pepper. Heck, even buttered toasted breadcrumbs. But no parm. Tools and Equipment You don’t need any special equipment to make Salmon Piccata. You can simply use a knife and cutting board to prep the salmon and vegetables. However, that doesn’t mean there are a couple of gadgets and tools that might make it even easier than it already is. 2-ounce (4 tablespoons) liquid measuring cup garlic press Microplane grater to zest lemon citrus press fish spatula cast iron skillet – a little fancier than others, but for something that will last forever, worth the splurge mini whisk my workhorse santoku chef’s knife cutting board – huge and heavy What Side Dish to Serve with Salmon Piccata For a generous piece of omega-3-laden salmon with a bright, lemony sauce, all you need is a simple vegetable or light starch or both on the side. Here are some great suggestions to pair with Salmon Piccata: Tri-colore Salad with Anchovy Vinaigrette, a colorful take on Caesar Salad LOVE roasted broccoli, or steamed if you want to keep all your cooking on the stovetop garlic-sautéed baby spinach quick pan-roasted asparagus boil pasta and toss it right into the Piccata sauce at the end steamed brown rice or quinoa Really go for it with the lemon theme, and finish your meal with this dairy-free Lemon Olive Oil Cake. Wine for Salmon Piccata Fish almost always calls for a crisp, white wine, and salmon is no different, especially in this preparation with light, bright sauce with a bit of butter. An unoaked Chardonnay that leans a little citrus is a great pairing. If you’re “not a Chardonnay person,” that’s cool (and we’ll change that later). Try a Sauvignon Blanc that’s citrusy, with only a hint of herbs. For more tips and ideas on pairing wine with salmon, check out this post. Prep Time5 mins Total Time15 mins Course: Main Course Cuisine: Italian, Mediterranean Keyword: anti-inflammatory, salmon, salmon piccata Servings: 4 Ingredients 1½ pounds salmon cut into 4 pieces 2 teaspoons salt 2 tablesoons olive oil 4 cloves garlic very finely sliced ½ cup dry white wine 1 cup chicken stock ½ cup lemon juice from about 3 large lemons ½ teaspoon lemon zest ¼ cup capers drained and rinsed 2 tablespoons plant-based butter 12 paper thin slices of lemon 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley Instructions Pat salmon dry with paper towel. Season both sides of each piece of salmon with salt, and black pepper if you’re using it. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat. When hot, add olive oil. Place salmon pieces in skillet with skin side down. Press down gently on the salmon pieces to make sure the surfaces of the fish have good contact with the pan, but do not move the fish around in the pan. Allow the fish to cook for about 3 minutes until the skin is crisp, then flip the fish over and cook the second side 2-3 minutes, depending on thickness of fish pieces. Remove the cooked fish to a plate. Add white wine to the skillet. With a wooden spoon, scrape the bottom of the pan to loosen any browned bits. Simmer wine until reduced by half, about 2 minutes. Add garlic and cook until garlic is translucent and the mixture is fragrant. Stir in chicken stock, lemon zest, lemon juice, and capers and cook until the sauce has thickened, 4 to 6 minutes. Add butter to pan, whisk vigorously until sauce has thickened, about 1 minute. Return the salmon to the skillet, flipping gently a few times to coat the pieces on all sides with the sauce. Spoon the sauce along with capers on top of each piece of salmon. The salmon is cooked when a thermometer insert...
