Mount Airy government officials who support a new downtown master plan are not expected to reconsider the measure, despite opposition among critics including a protest march last Sunday. “I see the process going forward,” Mayor Ron Niland said Wednesday regarding the plan approved by the city commissioners in a 3-2 vote on Sept. 1. It updated a previous master plan done in 2004 to include today’s business outlook and help guide the future of Mount Airy’s central business district and adjoining areas. But it has met with opposition from some downtown merchants and leaders, along with citizens at large, who fear this will result in a quaint downtown adopting the “cookie-cutter” look of other places. They see the plan’s recommendations for new flex spaces accommodating outdoor dining and additional elements — along with landscaping and other cosmetic changes, including tree plantings — as undermining what already is a charming, and thriving, downtown. In addition to organizing Sunday’s “Save Our Main Street” march, plan opponents have circulated petitions in the hopes of getting the majority of city commissioners supporting the plan update to reconsider their Sept. 1 action. “I don’t see that,” Mayor Niland said Wednesday of this possibility. Niland, a firm supporter of the plan, believes the measure received sufficient study which does not necessitate another look. “We had a lot of public meetings,” he said of a nine-month process leading to the plan’s passage. “This wasn’t done in a vacuum.” The plan’s supporters on the council also have drawn fire for voting on the measure the same night a public hearing was held concerning the proposal. During that hearing, the majority of speakers said they were opposed to the plan as it related to changes eyed for North Main Street. In discussing the vote on Wednesday and whether, in retrospect, it might have been a good move to delay action until further study, the mayor said, “I don’t know, I think that’s hindsight — I don’t think there was any ill will on anybody’s part.” And in discussing any need for the matter to be revisited, “I think before anything’s done we will revisit (it),” Niland said of individual aspects of the plan. “If and when we move forward, we will do it block by block,” he assured. “The plan is not written in stone.” Small, “very vocal” group? The mayor also indicated Wednesday that he believed the opposition mounted obscures the fact that many downtown business operators largely support the measure, echoing comments he and other officials made at a council meeting last Thursday. “I walked up and down Main Street and met at least 40 or 50 property owners,” he related. While some dislike certain parts of it, “in my conversations with property owners, they’re generally satisfied with most of the plan.” The opposition also was addressed last Thursday by other plan supporters, including Commissioner Steve Yokeley. Yokeley’s presentation of carefully worded remarks included his belief that no one wants to see North Main become a one-lane street lined with palm trees — another West Palm Beach, Florida, Asheville “or any place besides Mount Airy.” The longtime commissioner then took aim at what he variously termed as “naysayers,” “fear mongers,” “doomsday prophets,” “obstructionists” and “saboteurs.” “I wish we could expect better from this small group of very vocal but consistently negative people in our city,” Yokeley continued. He said some claim to represent the silent majority, but are relying on suppositions, innuendos, false narratives, negative comments, misinformation, partial facts, uninformed opinions and even personal attacks to make their case. “They can always be counted on to conjure up a toxic witches’ brew which isn’t appropriate even at Halloween,” Yokeley charged. He says the critics should produce their own plan rather than attacking a positive one that is focused on the future. “Let’s hear what you want to do instead of what you don’t want to do.” Yokeley said he wishes the plan opponents would take time to get the facts on all issues before developing uninformed opinions and spreading misinformation along with “outright lies.” “Think about what we could accomplish if we all work together,” said Yokeley, who began his commentary by mentioning that “we all need to get along.” Others weigh in Statements by fellow members of the city board also showed that they are entrenched in their positions. Commissioner Marie Wood said she couldn’t understand why a good plan has become “blown out of the roof,” as evidenced by criticisms being leveled. Wood further mentioned that she had studied every aspect included in the 78-page document from the start “and I did not see any reason to vote against it” on Sept. 1. She agreed with Yokeley in loving Mount Airy and not wanting to lessen its charm, much of which is due to its people. “The citizens of Mount Airy make our city and they can also break it up,” Wood said. Commissioner Joe Zalescik spoke in the same vein. “Everybody has a right to protest, everybody has a right to march, but you’ve got to look at the facts and not make up stuff,” Zalescik observed. “Don’t create untruths about what we do up here.” Zalescik said he also had researched the plan from the beginning and believes one way it will help involves better mobility and walkability downtown. Council members were prompted to offered such comments in reaction to citizens addressing the plan during a public forum at last Thursday’s meeting, including four people critical of it and two who were supportive. Shirley Brinkley, a former Mount Airy commissioner, said during her time at the podium that the predominantly non-supportive remarks by citizens during the Sept. 1 hearing seemed to make no difference among the trio of board members voting favorably. “I believe you had your minds made up,” Brinkley stated. Karen Armstrong also reiterated her previous concerns about not wanting to see the small-town America embodied by North Main Street damaged. “People don’t really want the look of Main Street to change,” Armstrong said, adding that citizens shouldn’t “stand by and do nothing.” John Pritchard, another forum speaker, offered a simple plea to city officials: “Build on what’s successful and don’t mess it up,” he said. “Just work on the little things and keep the history alive,” urged Devon Hays, who also spoke. Main Street Coordinator Lizzie Morrison of the group Mount Airy Downtown Inc. offered support for the plan during the forum and sought to allay fears. “I was born and raised here — this is my hometown — I’m not trying to erase what we love about it,” she said. In addition, John Phillips, a business owner on North South Street, spoke positively about the downtown plan and thanked city officials for approving the measure. “When something comes up like this, there’s always disagreements, people on different sides,” Phillips acknowledged. “It’s a myth to say ‘keep things the same’ — change is inevitable.” The local businessman believes the plan could serve to increase revenues and lower property taxes. Commissioner Jon Cawley, who had voted against the measure on Sept. 1 along with the board’s Tom Koch, offered his take on that outcome — and its timing. “It was obvious to me the night we had the discussion that the public was not ready for it,” Cawley said of the plan, which the commissioners had the power to act on — or not. As we emerge from pandemic lockdowns and restrictions, many companies are maintaining a fully remote model. In some cases, in-person interactions have become a thing of the past, making it challenging to establish a strong company culture. For some companies, a team lunch doesn’t cut it anymore. They’re looking at far-flung locations, luxury hotel stays and meticulously designed experiences to quickly establish trust between employees that have only met through a screen. We spoke with some experts to learn more about the trend, and why it’s important.  What is a company offsite? Offsites are team-building days designed to bond employees, brainstorm, boost morale and establish a company culture. These are often an opportunity for managers to organise focus groups and explore the ‘big picture’ goals of the company. The ‘traditional’ image of a company team-building day is in a hotel conference room, with employees taking part in challenges and presentations. Now, and especially as we emerge from the pandemic, companies are blurring the line between work and vacation to keep a stronghold on company culture. What do company offsites look like today? There have been reports of Uber taking its employees to a Beyoncé concert in Las Vegas, a WeWork summer camp fueled with booze and sex, and Glossier’s lavish ‘glamping’ trips. The New York Post reports the owner of a Chicago recruiting company “used the money her company saved on office rent during 2020 and 2021 to shell out $80,000 [€82,500] for her employees to take a three-day weekend trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in February.” And at night, the booze always comes out. “It’s still one of the oldest tricks in the book if you want to get people to bond,” Johannes Hoyos, owner of the Piedmont-based Workation Village, says to Euronews Travel. “Give them some booze and then it’s gonna happen.” Aron Solomon, the head of strategy at Esquire Digital, also noted that all-nighters in Berlin and Paris, clubs, and lavish dinners are pretty commonplace for big firms. “Believe me, when they go to these offsites, they stay in the best hotels, they’re eating at the best restaurants – at least the big companies, the big law and accounting firms,” Solomon reveals. “We’re talking about a lot of expensive meals. We’re talking about limousines for airport transfers, $500 to $700 [€515-€720] night rooms.” Which destinations are most popular for company offsites? Solomon says US companies are looking to Europe more than ever, and expects this to continue into next year. He expects this is a reaction to the pandemic lockdowns. “People have missed Europe… A lot of these executives or people who get to go offsite, who might have travelled to Europe regularly, have missed it,” he says. “So the idea of a company doing an offsite kills two birds with one stone.” New companies have been popping up in Europe that design and host company team-building trips. Again, we’re not talking about a conference room or business lunch. Solomon predicts companies will be looking for “something kind of exotic” in their 2023 offsites. In 2021, Hoyos transformed a sparsely populated Italian village into a campus for company trips. The Workation Village hosts multi-day offsites for big names like Google and Spotify, for up to 200 people. Hoyos tells Euronews Travel to think of it as a sort of countryside boutique hotel meets modern co-working space meets yoga retreat meets adventure space. According to Hoyos, being in a stunning natural setting is conducive to creative and productive thinking. “Our brains are super hardwired to come back again to certain patterns of thought,” he explains. “When we are in our typical environments – cities, airports, meeting rooms, office spaces, restaurants, hotels – [they] tend to trigger these patterns that we are hardwired to.” Breaking routine and being in a natural setting breaks that cycle. What’s the point of company away days? Though individual companies may plan away days with specific goals, there’s one theme that seems everpresent: building trust. This is especially important now in a remote working environment. Most of the Workation Village’s clients are technology companies that are otherwise working remotely. – “The goal of those teams is to get to know one another because they normally don’t work together in the same space,” Hoyos says. “That’s one of the key issues. How do you build trust?”  Hoyos describes that being in such close proximity in a new environment can create bonds between employees in a way that may not be possible virtually. “Say for the first time in your life, you’re participating in yoga and you do these awkward movements and you feel a bit embarrassed,” he theorises. “But then you feel like it’s ok, and this creates trust.” Now, in the age of social media, cool offsites have also been an opportunity for company branding. “We have local photographers and videographers, and we help [employees] to use content around their experiences here to tell the story about their company, their team, company culture, and so on,” Hoyos says. The tiny blood vessels that enter the retina may bleed or leak if sugar inhibits them. To combat it, new blood vessels are grown by the eyes that are weaker and may bleed or leak easily. This leaking might cause the eye to fill up with fluid, which would cause the retina to enlarge and impair vision. Hypertension Just like high blood sugar levels, high blood pressure can also damage the blood vessels. High blood pressure can cause the blood vessels in the retina to thicken, which will reduce the amount of blood that can reach it. Without sufficient blood flow, the delicate tissues in the eyes become injured, which can result in macular edoema and vitreous haemorrhage, optic nerve injury, and fluid accumulation under the retina. This condition is known as Hypertensive Retinopathy. 3. Multiple sclerosis The myelin sheath, which protects the optic nerve and aids in quick and effective signal transmission from the eyes to the brain for interpretation, is attacked by the immune system. As a result, the signalling is compromised, which causes an inflammation of the optic nerve and rapid loss of eyesight. This is referred to as optic neuritis. This condition leads to experiencing pain in the movement of the eyes, blurred vision, loss of color vision, a hole in the centre of the vision, headache, and blindness in some rare cases. Thyroid Due to similarities between the receptors present in the cells behind the eyes and those found in thyroid cells, such as in Graves’ disease, overactive thyroid causes antibodies to also be directed against those cells. Eye irritation, swollen eyelids, redness and inflammation of the conjunctiva, proptosis, and double vision are the signs of the aforementioned conditions. In some severe cases, a decrease in eye movement and optic nerve compression, incomplete closure of the eye, corneal ulceration and rarely, loss of vision is seen. Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases In autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) the immune system starts attacking one’s own body tissues. AP Photo BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres are not the Buffalo Bills. With the way the Sabres season ended last year, many fans — myself included — have a positive attitude entering this year. However, expectations should not be through the roof like they are with the Bills. While the Bills are Super Bowl contenders, the Sabres are still lingering around the bottom half of the NHL and their highest hopes should be maybe fighting for a playoff spot. The Sabres’ roster has slightly improved from last year, and that, coupled with playoff teams in the Atlantic Division continuing to age and lose pieces, could make the Sabres more competitive. But they are still quite a bit behind Toronto, Tampa Bay, Florida and Boston. The issues holding back Buffalo were not addressed with any urgency in the offseason and the course of action continues to be patience through prospect development. Buffalo’s biggest problem has been its goaltending ever since the departure of Ryan Miller and the current plan of action is to wait and see which of the prospects will eventually take over the net. While waiting for its prospects to turn into studs in net, Buffalo has deployed a number of forgettable names in net and its newest subject to be thrown to the fire is Eric Comrie. General manager Kevyn Adams locked in Comrie on a two-year deal at $1.8 million per season after the 27-year-old had the best pro season of his career, posting a .920 save percentage and 2.58 goals against average in a backup role with the Winnipeg Jets. With that tandem in net, Buffalo’s goaltending doesn’t hold up against the other starters like Andrei Vasilevskiy in Tampa Bay, Spencer Knight and Sergei Bobrovski in Florida, Jeremy Swayman in Boston and Ilya Samsonov in Toronto. While the goaltending is very important for success, if Buffalo can just get some consistency of average to slightly above-average performances in net then it will be a much more competitive team. What can help provide some consistency will be the Buffalo defensive core taking the next step and proving it can be one of the best groups in the NHL in the near future. While it might look like it is too soon, Buffalo signed Mattias Samuelsson to a seven-year extension which will kick in next season at $4,285,714 per season. Samuelsson’s extension is not necessarily a deserved one, but rather an investment and commitment to the current core Buffalo is assembling. Samuelsson is purely a defensive defenseman with some offensive upside, but his true role will be to help Rasmus Dahlin flourish offensively. That pair is expected to have the biggest improvement this season and the future success of the franchise will rely on it. Tage Thompson After that duo, high expectations will be on the shoulders of 2021 No. 1 pick Owen Power to be in the race for the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie. In order to help Power’s rookie campaign, Buffalo signed its biggest free agent in defensive defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin. Lyubushkin, similar to Samuelsson, is mainly a defensive fixture who will be there to help clean up the expected mistakes of a young offensive defenseman. If Lyubushkin doesn’t hitch himself to Power’s hip the other options will be Henri Jokiharju, Jacob Bryson, Casey Fitzgerald and possibly Lawrence Pilut. Really highlighting the commitment to its homegrown talent was Buffalo avoiding bringing any talent to the forward group from outside the system. The two new faces will be Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka who shined in the AHL last season with Rochester. Buffalo is very clearly betting on Tage Thompson to replicate last year’s success and for the rest of the young forwards it will be a pivotal season determining who will be a part of success in the future. This should be Casey Mittelstadt’s last year to really prove if he can cut it in the NHL before moving on, while Peyton Krebs and Dylan Cozens will show whether or not they have the potential to be offensive standouts in the league. With the lack of change, Adams is betting on the future and clearly owners Terry and Kim Pegula are finally on board with the vision of their general manager as they’ve finally given one an extension. Since owning the team it has been the best decision they have made. Aside from the complete different ends of the spectrum of success the Bills and Sabres are on, the biggest difference is how you should run a NFL franchise and a NHL team. In football you should put expectations on your manager to get better in two to three seasons because of how quick it takes for the player talent evaluation to be noticed. However, in the NHL, rebuilding general managers should get at a minimum three to five seasons to prove they know what they’re doing when it comes to evaluating talent. Adams took over as GM for the 2020 NHL Draft and is now finally going to get to see his first two players in the NHL and three if you add top-pick Power from 2021. When Brandon Beane took over the Bills in 2017, all six of the players Buffalo drafted played a full season immediately the following year — which is the expectation for NFL draft picks. It won’t be known whether or not Adams’ first two drafts were horrible for another four years, while the Bills immediately knew Beane was doing the right thing because of the nature of the NFL. So the commitment to the future Adams is building is the best thing going for the Sabres this season. Expect this year to be exciting to watch at times, but if your hopes are too high you will end up disappointing yourself. Most of the targets are so-called decentralized finance — or DeFi — protocols, which deploy software-based algorithms to enable crypto investors to trade, borrow and lend on digital ledgers without using a central intermediary. Hackers have become adept at exploiting weaknesses in the security, coding and structure of DeFi marketplaces. That’s putting the onus on crypto players to find solutions given that DeFi is touted as important for crypto adoption. “October is now the biggest month” for hacking activity in 2022, Chainalysis said Thursday on Twitter, adding that bridges between blockchains are a big vulnerability too. Two major exploits have roiled the crypto sector in recent days. One was a heist whereby a hacker spirited away about $100 million from DeFi service Mango by manipulating the price of its token. The perpetrator wiped out depositors on the platform in the process. Bloomberg Last week, 2 million Binance Coins — equivalent to nearly $570 million — were effectively minted and taken by a hacker. The Qualcomm version of the Surface Pro 9 comes with a 512GB SSD whereas the Wi-Fi version comes with a 1TB SSD. When it comes to battery backup, Microsoft claims that the Intel version lasts up to 15.5 hours but the Qualcomm version lasts up to 19 hours. The Intel-powered Surface Pro 9 comes with two USB-C ports with support for Thunderbolt 4. But the other Qualcomm variant does not support Thunderbolt 4 connectivity and sports a SIM port instead. While the Intel-based version is aimed at delivering performance, the Qualcomm-based version is useful for those who want to use a laptop on the go. The 2022 edition comes with a 13-inch 120Hz display and offers a resolution of 2,880 x 1,920. Surface Laptop 5 Powered by the 12th Gen Intel Core processor series, Microsoft says the Surface Laptop 5 provides an all-day battery life. Available in 13.5 or 15-inch options, the smaller version is available in i5 or i7 variants but the 15-inch version is locked to i7. Moreover, both models are available in 8GB, 16GB or 32GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage. The Surface Laptop 5 offers one USB-C port with support for Thunderbolt 4, one USB-A port and a 3.5mm audio jack. When it comes to battery, the 13.5-inch variant lasts up to 18 hours thanks to the smaller display whereas the 15-inch lasts up to 17 hours. While there is no word on the pricing, the Adaptive Accessories will launch on October 25. Microsoft also announced a new app named Designer. It is a tool for graphic designers powered by AI. The company says you can simply give the AI an idea and create something useful out of it.

(WDBJ) – Three new stories and 23,000 square feet in space is what the YMCA of Central Virginia leaders envision for the downtown Lynchburg location. This week, they’ve wrapped up their year long leadership phase and have now raised $7.5 million towards the project, with an ultimate goal of $11.5 million. “What we hope to achieve, is community projects here. So our entire first floor, we’re going to bring this building down to ground level and our entry level will be all for the community. We’re going to have a teaching kitchen, which is going to be able to help our healthy living programs and our community health programs,” said Mary Taylor, association director of development for the YMCA of Central Virginia. There will also be a kids play zone and a new teen center. “For those that are 13 and above, they really don’t have anywhere to go in the downtown area.” Overall, the main focus of the renovation is about collaboration with other community organizations. “We will kind of be the hub here in the Lynchburg downtown area to be able to reach out to the others.” The current building was constructed in 1956 and YMCA leaders are looking forward to having more space for their programs and community outreach. ”We have so many other nonprofits in this area and they need space and we’re going to help them out, we’re going to partner with them.” The Capital Campaign now heads into the community phase, where the YMCA will be working to raise the final $4 million. Evgeni Malkin coiled in the right circle. The whistle from a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins coaching staff the only thing breaking the silence. Ignore the rest of the players on the ice — some of whom were in elementary school the first time the core that’s defined one of the NHL’s marquee franchises for the better part of two decades took the ice together — and it could have been 2009. Or 2013. Or 2017. Or really, pretty much at any other point since Oct. 16, 2006, when Malkin, Crosby and Letang lost to Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in an arena that long ago became a parking lot. They were kids then. Letang and Crosby, just 19. Malkin, all of 20. They didn’t know what they were getting into. The bond they created has withstood various coaches, general managers, health scares as well as the fiscal realities of the salary cap era. When the Penguins open the season on Thursday night against Arizona, Crosby, Letang and Malkin will begin their 17th year together, tying the run of New York Yankees stars Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera as the longest-tenured trio of teammates in major North American professional sports history. It’s rarified air, a milestone — for a few anxious days over the summer anyway — it appeared they wouldn’t reach with Letang and Malkin potentially poised to hit free agency. Malkin agreed to a four-year deal just hours before hitting the market, a signing created in part by Letang’s decision spread out his $36 million contract over six years instead of four, freeing up enough cap space to make sure Malkin stuck around. “It’s something special,” Letang said. “It’s something we’re going to have together our entire life and (now) we have a chance to make it even stronger and try to win.” Something that hasn’t been an issue for the Penguins since Crosby’s No. 87, Malkin’s No. 71 and Letang’s No. 58 became fixtures in the lineup. Three times Crosby, Letang and Malkin have paraded through the downtown streets of their adopted hometown with the Stanley Cup. Yet it’s been five years since that giddy night in Nashville when the Penguins became the first team in a generation to claim back-to-back titles. It’s a fact not lost on any of them, one of the main reasons they don’t view the decision to stick together as a money grab. This isn’t about nostalgia. Their legacy was secure long before Malkin and Letang signed their new deals that could keep the core intact through at least 2025, when Crosby’s current contract ends. This is about making another deep postseason run next spring. And the spring after that. And the spring after that. “The main goal of having us all together is because we know we can win,” Letang said. “We have the recipe and that’s what we want to want to do again. And that’s all that matters. It’s not breaking records. It’s about winning.” It’s in the how where things get tricky. Malkin is 36 and coming off a wildly uneven season as he recovered from major knee surgery. Crosby and Letang are both 35 and while they remain in remarkable condition — Letang’s ice time last season was 25:47, the third-highest of his career — their bodies don’t bounce back quite like they used to. And they know it. Crosby smiled while pointing out that 10 years ago, he typically would have stayed on the ice for an extended period after practice rather than try to conserve his energy before the six-month slog that is the regular season begins. Don’t mistake Crosby’s more pragmatic approach to how he uses his time with a concession to Father Time or the idea he’s somehow lost a step or two. His next season averaging less than a point per game will be his first. “You’ve still got to continue to improve and work on your game,” said Crosby, whose 1,108 regular season games are a franchise record. “And you can’t cut corners there either. So it’s just a matter of balancing that.” Letang tries to rein himself in on his days off, but says he once hops over the boards it’s like “a switch.” “You’re playing the game,” he said. “You’re going as fast as you can. You don’t want to start managing yourself. That’s where you get hurt or that’s where, you know, your play starts to go down.” Coach Mike Sullivan made it a point recently to say that his team — with an average age of 30.3 — is “older but not old.” There are a sprinkling of kids on the roster. Defenseman Pierre Olivier Joseph and forward Ryan Poehling were both born in 1999 and have no recollection of the Penguins without Crosby, Letang or Malkin. Joseph remembers living in Montreal in the early 2000s and listening to his father, Frantzi, talk about a young Canadian phenom who was hockey’s next big thing. However, he stressed that “for serious investors, this will not necessarily be seen as a bad thing,” noting that “Savvy, long-term crypto investors will be looking to benefit from panic sellers by buying their digital currencies ‘on the cheap.’” Devere CEO’s Crypto Outlook The CEO of financial advisory and asset management firm Devere Group, Nigel Green, shared his view on the future outlook for bitcoin and ether Monday. “Markets are now predicting that policymakers at major central banks, including the U.S. Federal Reserve and Bank of England, are likely to remain resolute in pumping up interest rates in their battle to beat down unexpectedly stubborn inflation,” he began. US State Department Says Iran Nuclear Deal ‘not Our Focus Right Now’ – CNN https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/us-state-department-says-iran-nuclear-deal-not-our-focus-right-now-cnn/ Washington CNN  —  The Iran nuclear deal is “not our focus right now,” US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said Wednesday, noting the administration was instead focusing on supporting the protesters in Iran as efforts to restore the nuclear deal have hit yet another impasse. “The Iranians have made very clear that this is not a deal that they have been prepared to make, a deal certainly does not appear imminent,” Price said at a department briefing. “Iran’s demands are unrealistic. They go well beyond the scope of the JCPOA,” he said, using the acronym for the formal name of the deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. “Nothing we’ve heard in recent weeks suggests they have changed their position,” Price added. The spokesperson said the administration’s current focus “is on the remarkable bravery and courage that the Iranian people are exhibiting through their peaceful demonstrations, through their exercise of their universal right to freedom of assembly and to freedom of expression.” “And our focus right now is on shining a spotlight on what they’re doing and supporting them in the ways we can,” Price said. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in late September that he did not “see any prospects in the very near term” to bring about a return to the Iran nuclear deal. In an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Blinken said that “Iran has continued to try to add extraneous issues to the negotiation that we’re simply not going to say yes to.” “We will not accept a bad deal, the response that they’ve given to the last proposals put forward by our European partners have been a very significant step backwards,” he said. A senior State Department official said at that time that “we’ve hit a wall” because of Tehran’s “unreasonable” demands. Speaking to reporters during the UN General Assembly, the official said the UN nuclear watchdog’s probe into unexplained traces of uranium found at undisclosed Iranian sites remained the key sticking point. “At the same time as Iran is standing against its people on the street, it’s standing in the way of the kind of economic relief that a nuclear deal would provide. So I think they have to explain that to their own people why, on the verge of the deal, they would choose this issue and jeopardize at this point the possibility of the deal,” the official said in late September. Amid the standstill on the JCPOA, the Biden administration has unveiled a series of measures aimed at punishing the regime for its repression of the Iranian people and to try to support the protesters. In late September, the US announced sanctions on Iran’s Morality Police following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in their custody. In the agency’s full decision published Wednesday it said “the main rival that could be affected by this conduct would be Sony,” whereas other competitor Nintendo competes less closely. The CMA also pointed to past “strategies” used by Microsoft to justify taking a closer look at the tie-up. Microsoft hit back, saying the CMA “incorrectly relies on self-serving statements by Sony which significantly exaggerate the importance of Call of Duty.” In a response to the CMA statement, seen by Bloomberg, it said the authority has adopted the complaints of market leader Sony without the “appropriate level of critical review.” The combination with Activision — which owns some of the most popular franchises including World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero — will make Microsoft the world’s third-largest gaming company and boost the Xbox maker’s roster of titles for its Game Pass subscribers. “Our inquiry is about protecting competition in the interests of UK gamers and businesses,” a CMA spokesperson said. “The Phase 1 decision identified three areas where the deal could cause harm: gaming consoles, multi-game subscription services and cloud gaming services.” Sony didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. XSEED Games posted a new update today, revealing that fixes are currently in the works. “We are very much aware of the issues affecting this title since launch, and after over a year of trying to develop patches, we can report that we have brought the effort to address these issues in-house,” the update reads. “This has delayed things and we apologize for the lack of communication up until this point, but rest assured that we will provide further information as soon as we are confident that we have patches in releasable shape.” Today’s update provides no time table for these fixes, but reception has been positive, regardless! Now, you need to wake up by 6am the next morning or you would be late for work. You are left with the option of sleeping for a few hours, and you eventually wake up feeling groggy, tired, and irritated. Sounds familiar, right? It is an indisputable fact that sleep is important for a healthy lifestyle. Despite that, many people still struggle to get the recommended 8-hour sleep at night. This can be attributed to a wide range of factors, and excessive screen time is not excluded from the list. This article discusses how an excess of screen time can disrupt a person’s sleep, the implications, and how screen and sleep time can be modified for optimal living. We live in a world that is increasingly dependent on technology. Hence, smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices play a huge role in how we work, play, and communicate. However, these devices emit blue light or High Energy Visible (HEV) light, a colour in the natural electromagnetic energy spectrum that can be seen by the human eye. This blue light from screens suppresses the production of melatonin, a hormone that controls the sleep-wake cycle.
