The Figures Are Debatable And Discouraging – CoinDesk https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/first-mover-asia-how-many-metaverse-users-are-there-the-figures-are-debatable-and-discouraging-coindesk/ Good morning. Here’s what’s happening: Prices: Bitcoin rose slightly amid tepid trading as investors await the next Consumer Price Index – not that it will likely present any surprises. Insights: Metaverse companies would like you to think that they’ve built significant followings, but data suggests that’s far from the case. Information about CoinDesk Indices can be found at coindesk.com/indices. Bitcoin’s Ongoing Sounds of Silence Bitcoin’s quiet life continued. The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization was recently trading just over $19,100, about flat for the past 24 hours as investors waited for Thursday’s release of the next U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI). Barring the unexpected, the CPI is expected to show a slight drop, but hardly sufficient to sway the U.S. central bank from its current monetary aggressiveness. BTC has remained rangebound for weeks, largely between $19,000 and $21,000, although it dipped briefly below the lower support on Wednesday. Trading volume has remained tepid, falling regularly below 20-day averages. “Nothing happening today, Bodhi Pinkner, a research analyst at crypto-focused financial services firm Arca, told CoinDesk. “Markets were up marginally.” Pinkner added: “Very, very low trading volumes across the space. We’ve been stuck in a range.” Ether, the second largest crypto in market value, was recently changing hands below $1,300, about where it stood much of Wednesday but up roughly 1% from Tuesday, same time. Other major cryptos were mostly flat, although SUSHI recently fell more than 5%, while TRON was up more than 1%. The CoinDesk Market Index (CMI), a broad-based market index that measures the performance of a basket of cryptocurrencies, was flat. Stocks cast their promising first two days of October further in the rearview mirror as the tech-heavy Nasdaq, the S&P 500, which has a strong technology component, and Dow Jones Industrial Average extended their current losing streaks to six days. Markets chewed nervously over a 0.4% increase in September’s producer-price index, a discouraging sign following the previous month’s slight decrease. CPI observers anticipate the latest reading remaining above 8% with core inflation, which eliminates the impact of volatile food and energy prices, rising to 6.5%, a four-decade high. The increase would bolster an already determined Federal Reserve’s argument for continuing its recent diet of sharp interest rate hikes, discouraging already skittish investors from riskier assets. In an on-stage discussion Wednesday at the International Monetary Fund’s annual meeting, the organization’s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, said that central banks should refrain from currency interventions, instead suggesting that they use interest-rate raises as the preferred tool for combating foreign-exchange weakness versus the dollar. “Do not waste your reserves to protect your currency,” Georgieva said Arca’s Pinkner noted a downward trend in the correlation between cryptocurrencies and other risk assets “over the last couple of months. “However, in order for any decoupling, you likely need a catalyst, and it’s possible that catalyst would be widespread currency debasement across various economies and mostly to bitcoin as a non-sovereign, safe haven asset, and it’s possible that catalyst is unforeseen or that there’s just no catalyst, and we remain correlated to risk assets.” Biggest Gainers Biggest Losers The Metaverse Struggles to Catch On The Metaverse is in need of a census. A few have tried, but so far nobody can agree about the findings of the enumerators. Horizon Worlds, like Decentraland and the metaverse at large, isn’t as popular as what Mark Zuckerberg or Metaverse token holders want you to think. The problem is in the numbers. Earlier this month, The Verge reported Meta’s VR social network Horizon Worlds is so bug-ridden that even its developers aren’t using it much. “But currently feedback from our creators, users, playtesters, and many of us on the team is that the aggregate weight of papercuts, stability issues, and bugs is making it too hard for our community to experience the magic of Horizon,” Meta’s VP of Metaverse, Vishal Shah, wrote in a memo obtained by The Verge. “Simply put, for an experience to become delightful and retentive, it must first be usable and well crafted.” Meta claims that Horizon Worlds has 300,000 signups, but there’s no indication of how many are active users. One proxy could involve looking at the population of related Facebook groups: the official Horizon Worlds page has 31,644 followers while an official Horizon Worlds Facebook community group has 28,200 members. Let’s assume there’s plenty of overlap meaning the higher number is the total addressable market. If we want to figure out the serviceable available market we must look at the install base of virtual reality headsets. (Steam Hardware Survey/Steampowered.com) Digital gaming store Steam – a must-have for any PC gamer – says that 2% of its 132 million monthly active users have a VR headset. Of this two million, 64% are using Meta’s Oculus headsets, putting the install base at 1.28 million. So with that in mind, even if Meta’s figure of 300,000 is correct it only means that 23% of its VR install base is using what Meta believes to be the future of the company. But that’s the best-case scenario, the more realistic number is closer to 31,644 which would mean that around 2% of the VR install base is using Horizon Worlds as Meta intended. Decentraland’s fuzzy math But what about Decentraland? There was some MANA mania earlier this week when CoinDesk, citing DappRadar numbers, reported that it was a lonely world with 38 people in the $1.3 billion ecosystem. DappRadar’s number relies on analyzing smart contracts from Decentraland that are being interacted with. Decentraland HQ says it’s not looking at the whole picture and only a handful of the hundreds of available smart contracts. Decentraland, instead, offers its own sets of numbers via its portal DCL-Metrics which says that there have been around 7000 unique users in the last 24 hours visiting 6900-odd virtual parcels. The validity of these numbers begins to dissolve once you take a closer look at them. Their data shows that there are also dozens of ‘marathon users’ that have spent the majority of the day in Decentraland. Marathon users (https://dcl-metrics.com/) There’s also another list of users – that don’t seem to overlap – that have visited hundreds of parcels during the course of the day. Clearly, there are bots among us. Perhaps the most realistic number from DCL-Metrics could be found in the daily active users at the ICE Poker house, which it says is just under 3000. This might actually be where Decentraland’s real population lies as ICE Poker has an actual, documented player base. There are two more stars in the sky of data that can help us triangulate a position. On Github, Decentraland runs something called a Catalyst Monitor, a tool for tracking the load on each of its servers which it calls catalysts. (https://decentraland.github.io/catalyst-monitor/) The count from the servers shows that there are 518 total users on the platform as of late Wednesday afternoon Asia time. This number comes close to the headcount of 457 that Nansen estimates on its Entity Billboard tool. Nansen would like to stress that this tool is very much in Beta, and only tracks 72 of the smart contracts Decentraland uses. At the same time, there are 269,698 unique holders of MANA tokens. Even if we use some best-case numbers from ICE’s poker house count of 3000 as a proxy for Decentraland’s total active population (this would be a best case scenario, realistically the number is closer to what Catalyst and Nansen provide) that means only 1% of MANA token holders are users of the platform. Not exactly a bullish case for Decentraland and the Metaverse at large. But we had all of this a decade ago with Second Life. Which had better graphics, smoother gameplay, and an actual community – not token holders pumping their bags trying to make you believe that this is the future of the internet. In case you missed it, here is the most recent episode of “First Mover” on CoinDesk TV: There’s been another massive exploit in crypto, this time tied to market manipulation on Mango, a Solana-based decentralized exchange. “First Mover” discussed the state of the crypto industry and markets with Tribe Capital co-founder and CEO Arjun Sethi. CoinDesk’s Cheyenne Ligon provided an update in Grayscale’s lawsuit against the SEC over the agency’s rejection of Grayscale’s Bitcoin ETF application. Plus, DIMO aims to help drivers gain and monetize their car data, and DIMO co-founder Andy Chatham joined the conversation. Friendly Reminder: Celebrity Crypto Endorsements Don’t Mean Much – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/friendly-reminder-celebrity-crypto-endorsements-dont-mean-much-69news-wfmz-tv/ The investing information provided on this page is for educational purposes only. NerdWallet does not offer advisory or brokerage services, nor does it recommend or advise investors to buy or sell particular stocks, securities or other investments. Cryptocurrencies’ journey this year from the moon back to Earth has slammed the brakes on a peculiar phenomenon of the 21st century: the awkward celebrity crypto endorsement. Matt Damon, Larry David and Tom Brady have all gone quiet on crypto as advertising dollars in the industry have evaporated alongside investor interest, according to recent reports. And Kim Kardashian couldn’t have even talked about crypto if she had wanted to, as the Securities and Exchange Commission has barred her from promoting crypto for three years. The SEC takes notice This latest move from the SEC serves as a reminder that Super Bowl commercials and celebrity social media accounts may not be the best source of investment advice. People who bought in at the height of the crypto craze may not recoup their investments for years — if ever — depending on the coin they bought. And some of the stars who signed on to promote risky digital assets may now wish they had steered clear. Under Kardashian’s settlement with the SEC, the ubiquitous influencer also paid a million-dollar fine and forfeited $250,000 — which she was allegedly paid to talk up the obscure token EthereumMax through Instagram — plus interest. (Kardashian admitted no wrongdoing.) Meanwhile, EthereumMax is trading for less than a millionth of a cent. That’s down about 99% from the high it hit shortly before Kardashian began promoting it in June 2021. Celebrity endorsements exist throughout society, from car commercials to medical devices and political campaigns. But when Joe Montana talks up Medicare plans, the SEC won’t come knocking. Crypto, on the other hand, has been a particularly troublesome spot for paid spokespeople in part because of the sector’s reliance on hype to fuel its rapid growth — and the explicit rules the SEC has in place around this exact thing. Pump that crypto spirit up Early-stage crypto projects often offer influencers and average citizens rewards for promoting their project through social media. These cryptocurrency “airdrops” can be legitimate ways to get a new asset circulating in the market and to help people learn about it. But there are sometimes darker motives in the discourse around particular cryptocurrencies. Some developers have been accused of promoting their cryptocurrencies not out of a sincere belief in the product but as a way to increase demand before selling and walking away. This is known in both SEC parlance and Reddit message boards as the feared “pump and dump.” The SEC has had its eyes on celebrities’ crypto tips for half a decade. In 2017, the agency issued a statement urging investors to question the motives of anyone shilling digital assets. “Celebrities and others are using social media networks to encourage the public to purchase stocks and other investments,” the SEC said at the time. “These endorsements may be unlawful if they do not disclose the nature, source, and amount of any compensation paid, directly or indirectly, by the company in exchange for the endorsement.” One year after the SEC statement, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and musician DJ Khaled agreed to SEC-imposed penalties after being accused of running afoul of these rules with their own crypto projects. (They also admitted no wrongdoing.) Fortune favors … whom? It wasn’t until cryptocurrencies’ historic bull run of 2021 that the cryptocurrency/celebrity symbiosis really took off. As the asset class established itself closer to the mainstream, centralized crypto exchanges sought out household names to help promote their products. Rather than pitching individual investments, this latest crop of celebrity endorsements from the likes of Tom Brady, Larry David and others took the more conservative approach of talking up crypto in general. Crypto was confusing, but cool. It was a bold, forward-thinking choice for true leaders. In one commercial for the crypto exchange FTX, Larry David makes light of his own lack of understanding of the novel asset class. In another, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen call all of their friends to announce they’re “getting into crypto.” And in a much discussed (and often ridiculed) spot for Crypto.com, Matt Damon makes the grandest of overtures as he urges viewers to put their money into crypto. “In these moments of truth,” Damon says, “these men and women — these mere mortals, just like you and me — as they peer over the edge, they calm their minds and steel their nerves with four simple words that have been whispered by the intrepid since the time of the Romans: Fortune favors the brave.” As it turned out, it may have been more prudent for crypto buyers to stand a little farther from the edge. Even large cap cryptos such as Bitcoin are trading at about a third of what they were worth last year. In May 2022, with the crypto market falling like a chastened Wile E. Coyote, NBC News contacted 10 celebrity crypto spokespeople including David and Damon. None of them offered a comment. Whatever a celebrity tells you, personal investing is usually a lot less exciting than it looks on TV. Most people are well-served by a diversified portfolio that includes a mix of different asset classes. Risky bets like crypto should generally make up just a small part of that. Another of the sadly boring aspects of investing is that you want to think long term, and that means a bear market can be an opportunity. If you believed in the long-term value of Bitcoin when it was $60,000, you can certainly get more for your dollar now that it’s at $20,000. After all, fortune favors the brave, right? The author and editor both owned Bitcoin at the time of publication. The article Friendly Reminder: Celebrity Crypto Endorsements Don’t Mean Much originally appeared on NerdWallet.

Ukraine Will Push To Reclaim More Territory Through Winter, U.S. Defense Chief Says – The New York Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ukraine-will-push-to-reclaim-more-territory-through-winter-u-s-defense-chief-says-the-new-york-times/ KYIV, Ukraine — Six and a half feet down a ladder inside a small shed at the back of Oleksandr Kadet’s home is an underground room with a cement hatch that he hopes he never has to use. For the past two weeks, Mr. Kadet, 32, said that he and his wife, who live outside the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, had been preparing for the possibility of a nuclear attack by stocking the room — an old well that they converted into a bunker — with bottled water, canned food, radios and power banks. “We are more anxious now, especially after yesterday’s attacks,” Mr. Kadet said on Tuesday, a day after a series of Russian missile attacks across Ukraine. “But we do think that in case of a nuclear explosion, we will be able to survive if we stay in the shelter for some time.” The fears of escalation rose on Saturday after an attack on the 12-mile Kerch Strait Bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014. Initially, Ukrainians celebrated, but that quickly gave way to worry that such a brazen assault on a symbol of President Vladimir V. Putin’s rule could prompt a severe retaliation. Even before these recent events, though, concerns about the potential for a nuclear disaster had increasingly been making their way into Ukraine’s national psyche. The fear is that Russia could either use tactical nuclear arms or launch a conventional attack on one of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants. U.S. officials have said they think the chances of Russia’s using nuclear weapons are low, and senior American officials say they have seen no evidence that Mr. Putin is moving any of his nuclear assets. On Sunday, Mr. Putin called the assault on the bridge a “terrorist attack aimed at destroying the critically important civilian infrastructure of the Russian Federation.” But his spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, appeared to tamp down fears of a nuclear reprisal, saying that the attack on the bridge did not fall within the category under Russia’s defense doctrine that allowed for such a response. Last month, Mr. Putin raised fears that he could resort to nuclear weapons when he warned that he would “use all the means at our disposal to protect Russia and our people,” if Russian-controlled territory was threatened. “This is not a bluff,” he said. Days later, Russia illegally annexed four Ukrainian territories. Mr. Kadet, who noted that he had begun preparing two weeks ago, said it felt better to have an action plan. “It’s psychologically easier because you know you are at least somehow prepared for it,” he said. “It’s not a guarantee it will save you, but at least you’re ready.” Residents of Kyiv said that they had felt wary even before the most recent missile strikes there on Monday. Immediately after the bridge attack, many Ukrainians had shared their glee on social media. They toasted triumphantly in the capital’s bars over the weekend, and posed for selfies in front of posters of the burning bridge. But the worry soon set in. “I feel this real fear about how the Russians will answer this,” said Krystina Gevorkova, 30, who was shopping with her friend in Kyiv on Sunday. “Earlier it had felt safer here,” she added. “Now, I have this feeling like something is going to happen.” Kyiv has for months been spared the worst of the Russian onslaught while Moscow focused its attention instead on southeastern Ukraine. But on Monday, a Russian missile struck just blocks away from where Ms. Gevorkova had spoken. She said that she had been reading up on how to stay safe during a nuclear war, but that she was skeptical that it would help. “We can’t really do anything,” she said. The war has felt far from Kyiv in recent months, as life’s rhythms return to a semblance of normalcy after Russian forces were ousted from parts of northeastern Ukraine. Nevertheless, the city has also been slowly preparing for a potential nuclear attack. The Kyiv City Council said on Friday that potassium iodide pills would be distributed to residents in case of a nuclear incident “based on medical recommendations,” adding that the pills were also available in city pharmacies. Potassium iodide is used to saturate a person’s thyroid with iodine so that radioactive iodine inhaled or ingested after exposure will not be retained by the gland. Alina Bozhedomova, 23, a pharmacist in Kyiv, said that customers were coming in daily looking for the pills, but added, “I haven’t seen people panicking about it.” Some elementary schools have advised parents to prepare emergency packs for their children to keep with them at school. Nadiia Stelmakh, 50, who works in a market selling home goods, said that one mother had come to her with a list from the school that included latex gloves, a poncho, boot covers, tissues, wet wipes and a flashlight. “People are really concerned right now,” she said. Her husband, Volodymyr Stelmakh, who has another stall nearby, agreed. “I have an emergency bag packed,” he said, “but I think if the nuclear threat is imminent, you will have no time to run away. After worries grew about the security of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in the country’s southeast in recent weeks, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health issued guidance about how to respond to a nuclear incident. The risk of nuclear fallout can feel very real in Ukraine, a country that still bears the scars of the Chernobyl accident in 1986, one of the worst nuclear disasters in history. Chernobyl is only about 60 miles north of Kyiv. And some who experienced the life-threatening fallout firsthand say that they, possibly more than anyone, understand the full risk of nuclear exposure. Oleksandr, 55, who asked that his last name not be used, said that he and his family had fled Chernobyl for Kyiv immediately after the meltdown, when he was just 18. His family closely followed guidance to move south, as winds were pushing radioactive materials north, and he said that was the only reason they escaped unscathed. “Now, people here are really not ready. People don’t know what to do,” he said. “There is not enough information.” He owns a market stand that sells household necessities and said that more people had come in during the past two weeks preparing for a nuclear disaster, buying flashlights, batteries, knives, radios and small camp stoves. While some were preparing for the worst, others remained optimistic that Russia would never carry out such an extreme attack, which would draw international outrage. Dmytro Yastrub, 31, said he felt more concerned about Mr. Putin using conventional weapons to target Kyiv. “I presume something will happen” after the bridge attack, he said, standing outside a bar in the Kyiv city center on Sunday evening with a group of friends. But, he added, the risk of a nuclear attack was not weighing heavy on his mind. Svetlana Zozulia, 47, and her husband, Vladyslav Zozulia, 37, were walking in central Kyiv with their daughter, Anastasiia, 11, on Sunday night. Ms. Zozulia said she tried to remain optimistic and did not believe that Mr. Putin would launch a nuclear attack on Ukraine. But she did buy potassium iodide tablets just in case, she said. “I think our success disturbs him,” Ms. Zozulia said. “But there is also a threat for him if he chooses a nuclear attack.” Oleksandra Mykolyshyn contributed reporting

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s Electric Gym Leader Is An Influencer Nintendo’s drip feed of new Pokemon Scarlet & Violet information continues, as this time it’s revealed yet another of the game’s Gym Leaders. Iono is Scarlet & Violet’s Electric Gym Leader who also seems to have a side job as a social media influencer. In her first broadcast, Iono asks her fans to guess what her partner Pokemon is, describing the creature as “squishy” and “sluggish” with an “easygoin’ vibe.” There’s certainly plenty of candidates out there, but we’ve put all of our bets on a Paldean Slugma variant. Eddie Dixon Memorial Drive-By | The South Reporter – South Reporter https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/eddie-dixon-memorial-drive-by-the-south-reporter-south-reporter/ Wed, 10/12/2022 – 6:31pm “This is history,” said Teresa Washington, as county employees and elected officials turned out for a Monday memorial drive by the county offices and courthouse. County road crews parked lots of heavy equipment along the courthouse, a fitting tribute to the late Eddie Dixon, who died following a school bus accident. Even though Monday was a federal holiday – Columbus Day – county offices were open “One reason we wanted to park the equipment is Mr. Dixon voted for purchasing all that equipment along with the other supervisors,” said Chuck Thomas, chancery clerk, who helped organize the tribute. “It’s the first drive-by in my 31- year term.” All major equipment was on display in neat lines and included fire, ambulance, and law enforcement from the county and city of Holly Springs. The Benton County Board of Supervisors also represented. All departments in the county and courts were also present. “We are going to miss Mr. Dixon,” Thomas said. “He was a leveling rod for the board and is truly going to be missed.” Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson, who led the escort to H.W. Byers for the funeral, said he does not remember anyone ever having a drive-by during his years as sheriff “The drive by was appropriate as we honored one who had devoted his life as a teacher and supervisor and always was an advocate for the county and for education,” Dickerson said. “He was a friend of law enforcement. He didn’t just talk the talk. He walked the walk to the betterment of Marshall County citizens.” Dixon’s funeral was held at H.W. Byers school, where he worked for over 40 years as a teacher and bus driver. Holly Springs South Reporter

Cruising Emerges As The Top Family Travel Trend For Indians In 2023 – Travel Daily https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/cruising-emerges-as-the-top-family-travel-trend-for-indians-in-2023-travel-daily/ The top travel trends that emerged from the August 2022 study include that 8 in 10 urban Indian families who are planning to travel internationally are considering a cruise holiday in the next 12 months. 79% of Indians want to vacation with their families and 89% believe it is very important to spend quality time with family for an overall sense of wellbeing. The survey was conducted in August 2022 by Hansa Research on behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line. Family travel goals have taken on an all-new meaning, with Indian families seeking to make up for lost time with new and exciting experiences to strengthen their bond and enjoy each other’s company. The importance of close community and family bonds has emerged as vital to maintaining a sense of wellbeing among Indians, according to a recent survey conducted by Hansa Research on behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the leading innovator in global cruise travel. Around 78% of respondents said that their vacation goal was to travel to create memories with their loved ones, while 65% said they travel to visit different places and experience something new. Families, particularly those with younger children under 15 years of age, believe that kid-friendly holiday options and dining choices are very important when considering holiday choices. The study further added that when travelling with family, 69% of Indian travellers said value and inclusive pricing was a very important consideration while 61% feel that easy access to attractions and activities was important. It’s no surprise that cruise holidays are top of mind for Indian families seeking to reconnect, since cruising offers the ultimate way to travel together. They can easily visit multiple destinations while unpacking just once, and cruising caters to many different types of travellers with varied entertainment, dining and accommodation options. In addition, a cruise holiday promotes a sense of peace, wellbeing and worry-free travel with everything taken care of from the moment guests step aboard. “It’s really exciting to see such a significant number of Indian travellers have shown a desire to take a cruise vacation so that they can spend quality time with their loved ones”, said Manoj Singh, country head india at NCL. “The thrill of exploring multiple destinations in one vacation with ease has led to families fulfilling their travel goals at sea. With NCL’s world class onboard offerings, port-rich itineraries to almost 400 of the world’s most sought-after destinations and inclusive pricing, families of all shapes and sizes will experience the holiday of a lifetime.” NCL offers the ultimate way for families to reconnect and recharge, with port-rich itineraries that allow them to immerse themselves in each destination, and a fleet of innovative ships that offer an incredibly vast array of choice to suit families large and small – from an onboard racetrack to Broadway entertainment, fine dining and casual fare, as well as multiple accommodation options and unique event spaces that are ideal for milestone moments amongst larger, multi-generational families. %

Guadalupe Business Association Hosts Second Annual ‘Taste Of Guadalupe’ | News Channel 3-12 – KEYT https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/guadalupe-business-association-hosts-second-annual-taste-of-guadalupe-news-channel-3-12-keyt/ GUADALUPE, Calif. – An effort to bring tourists and diners to Guadalupe is underway. El Tapatio is cooking for new customers, all thanks to the second annual ‘Taste of Guadalupe.’ “How I see it is like a trick-or-treating for adults, where you just go to all the restaurants listed here,” said Noemi Berumen, owner of El Tapatio. She said they participated last year, and it helped her business.  “Then that friend becomes our regular, then brings their other friends,” said Berumen. “So we get pretty busy, and I say a lot is due to the taste of Guadalupe.” The Guadalupe Business Association says the goal is to bring more foot traffic into the city while also boosting the economy.  Participants can pick a special passport at any of the 16 participating restaurants. When you go to one of the restaurants– you can get the passport stamped… and then have a chance to win prizes like a flat-screen tv.  “This year, if you have eight stamps, you get one entry; 12, you get two entries into the drawing, and three for all 16 stamps,” said Garret Matsuura, president of the Guadalupe Business Association.  The restaurant owner of El Tapatio says no purchase is necessary to participate in “a taste of guadalupe.” However, they said when customers come in, they can’t resist the smell of their food. “We’re excited about this year because it is now who else we will meet,” said Berumen. “Who else hasn’t seen me participate in a long time and get to say hello to them.” Berumen hopes this contest continues every year, all to cook for new and old faces. “It’s really nice to get Guadalupe out there on the map,” said the restaurant owner. The last day to enter the contest is October 31st. For more information, click here.

Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Live By These Healthy Habits – Eat This, Not That https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ashton-kutcher-and-mila-kunis-live-by-these-healthy-habits-eat-this-not-that/ Real talk: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are couple goals in more ways than one. Kutcher is gearing up for the 2022 New York City Marathon and lost around 12 pounds while doing it, with a solid support system right by his side. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he reveals, “The biggest change physically has been the transfer of muscle mass from upper body to lower body. I’ve lost about 12 lbs. … my wife [Mila Kunis] has been super supportive” (via PEOPLE). Overall, the couple’s lifestyle game is totally on point. If you didn’t already know, their gorgeous Beverly Hills modern farmhouse is complete with a sleek barbecue pavilion, a stunning pool, and a solar-powered farm that’s absolutely bursting with fresh vegetables, according to PEOPLE. After learning all about it, you’ll want to move in and put your green thumb to good use! Growing your own vegetable garden is a total game-changer when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, and Kutcher and Kunis clearly understand that. With fresh veggies conveniently located in your own backyard, you know exactly where the meals you consume came from. So if you’re curious about this celeb powerhouse couple’s “fully sustainable” farm and the healthy habits they live by, keep reading to learn more. Matt Winkelmeyer / Staff / Getty Images It all started with the couple’s strong, wholesome values and a dream. “Ashton and Mila are concerned about the quality of the soil, the purity of the food they eat and the water they drink. The ideals of sustainability and regenerative farming aren’t just abstract concepts to them,” says the couple’s architect, Howard Backen (via Architectural Digest). Kunis shares in a cover story with C Magazine the couple’s excitement, saying, “We had this grand idea, and then we moved in four months before COVID hit,” adding, “We didn’t realize how incredible it was to have a fully sustainable house until the world shut down” (via PEOPLE). Talk about perfect timing! Related: Mark Wahlberg, 51, Lives by These Fitness Habits Kutcher (44) and Kunis (39) are understandably proud of living healthy and waited five years for construction on their farm to finish. The stunning property is complete with apple trees and a bountiful veggie garden filled with lettuce, tomatoes, squash, and other sheer goodness (via PEOPLE). And that’s not the only very cool thing about the couple’s digs. Wanting “a home, not an estate,” as Kunis puts it, their farm is totally solar-powered, and the wood used is apparently recycled from an old Wonder Bread factory! Kutcher reveals to Architectural Digest, “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant.” He also says of their abode, “To feel tranquility in a space, everything needs to be in order. If the world around you isn’t in order, it’s hard to get your brain in order. When we’re in our home, the world just makes sense.” Related: Elon Musk, 51, Has Healthy, Fit Habits You’ll Want To Copy Being in charge of what you put into your body comes with a lot of responsibility. By tending to your own backyard garden—complete with fresh herbs, veggies, and fruits—you’re opening yourself up to a wealth of positive opportunities, specifically being the decision maker on what pesticides and fertilizers come into contact with the food you grow (via Harvard Health Publishing). Having fresh tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, peppers, basil, and more readily available also makes it seamless to add healthy foods to your daily meals. According to Dr. Helen Delichatsios, an internist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital, we should all learn some planting skills. “Backyard gardening can inspire you to take an interest in the origins of your food and make better choices about what you put on your plate,” Dr. Delichatsios says, adding, “When you grow your own food, you savor it more because of the effort it took to get to the table.” This celeb couple’s solar-powered home benefits their overall health and also the environment. Using natural energy protects our ecosystems and all living things! Dubbing themselves “the Kukus,” the pair makes gardening fun family time, recruiting help from their daughter and son, Wyatt, 7; and Dmitri, 5. Kunis admits, “My husband’s from the Midwest, and a lot of this has to do with his upbringing. He’s like, we’re building a farm and we’re all going to work on the farm.” She adds, “I’m from L.A., and I was like, we are? This has been a big learning curve for all of us.” Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis teach their children to “understand the value of a tomato and how much work goes into growing it,” Kunis explains, adding, “Whether it’s learning something new, doing something a little bit scary—all of that makes you stronger” (via PEOPLE). Miami Dolphins Captains Vote To Remove Ping-Pong Table From Locker Room Amid Losing Streak – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/miami-dolphins-captains-vote-to-remove-ping-pong-table-from-locker-room-amid-losing-streak-cbs-sports/ USATSI A ping-pong table has been removed from the Miami Dolphins locker room as part of an effort by team captains to have the team be better prepared amid a two-game losing streak. The ping-pong table had been introduced to the locker room this year, but its removal was confirmed Wednesday afternoon by head coach Mike McDaniel. According to McDaniel, the ping-pong table’s removal came at the request of Dolphins team captains, most notably wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who believed that the locker room game had become a distraction. “Tyreek and the captains decided that they wanted to take a step forward with all their opponent prep with regard to the team and their preparation with our game plans in general,” McDaniel said when discussing the removal of the ping-pong table. “… That, to me, is leadership. To me, leadership is acting, not talking. There’s a bunch of different examples from those guys, and that’s why they’re captains and that’s why I rely on them, because it’s about solving problems, not complaining about them. “They, collectively, as a group of players, wanted more time investment during the week on their jobs for Sunday. So instead of just saying it, they did something about it. And that’s the whole reason that I really have a lot of love for those guys.” Just a few weeks ago, the ping-pong table was seen as a positive in the Dolphins’ locker room after the team sprung out to a 3-0 start. But the situation has changed, and all is now not well: The Dolphins lost 27-15 to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4, a game that saw quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffer a serious head injury that sparked a far-reaching controversy on the handling of players who have suffered a concussion. Then, the Dolphins were blown out 40-17 by the New York Jets in a game that saw them go to third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson after Teddy Bridgewater was also knocked out with a concussion. Given Miami’s current circumstances, it’ll be all hands on deck for them in Week 6 as they face the Minnesota Vikings with Thompson expected to start.

Editors Picks: Best Of Fall Baking Steals & Hacks 22 Words
Editors Picks: Best Of Fall Baking Steals & Hacks 22 Words
Editor’s Picks: Best Of Fall Baking Steals & Hacks – 22 Words https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/editors-picks-best-of-fall-baking-steals-hacks-22-words/ The fall equinox kicks off a busy holiday baking season for me. I’m always on the lookout for baking deals, new holiday foods, and the latest kitchen gadgets. As my husband knows all too well, it takes a lot of supplies to tackle the holiday recipes I’ve eyeballed for months. I spend months leading up to fall searching for the best fall baking hacks and deals.   Yes, I may have a problem with fall baking finds. It’s not really my fault—I just can’t help but love all the food possibilities that holidays bring. For me, homemade food on the holidays means joy. I just want to spread some seasonal cheer! The good news is, I’m not keeping the cheer to myself. I’m letting you in on some of my favorite fall baking mixes and tools. These are the Halloween and Thanksgiving must-haves I always keep in my kitchen. Whip Up Perfect Fall Cakelets Did you know that the more beautiful food looks, the more likely you are to enjoy it? I bought this adorable baking pan that turns out acorns, pumpkins, and leaves because I wanted to bring new life to one of my favorite fall baking recipes. Pro tip: always coat baking molds with non-stick spray before using. Pretty Up Cupcakes with Glittering Pumpkin Toppers I wasn’t joking about how much appearance matters when I’m doing holiday baking. I’m a little bit picky, and I want all of the holiday food that leaves my kitchen to look amazing. When I’m short on time, I turn to easy décor like these pumpkin cupcake toppers. They’re pretty and easy to use. Taste the Colors of Fall Leaves Everyone loves the glorious red-and-orange palette of fall leaves, but it’s one of the hardest color schemes to pull off on a cake. Trust me, I’ve tried many times and failed. My “fall colors theme” always ends up looking more like a big fat mud puddle. This year I’ll be opting for edible fall leaf cake decorations instead. They are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. Make a Chicken Separate Your Eggs Some of my favorite fall recipes call for egg yolks or whites that have been separated. I always painstakingly separated the yolk from the white using two dishes. That was a waste of time. I recently found this amazing chicken that separates eggs with no mess. It’s a must-have for anyone who loves baking. Beat It with a Ball Whisk Years ago, I tried making whipped cream by hand with a whisk. It was so hard that I wondered how fancy French pastry chefs in the 18th century made it at all. I found this ball whisk when I was looking for baking deals, and now I know. It has changed my life. It works perfectly and takes up so much less space than a traditional whisk. Mold Some Festive Pocket Pies One of my favorite holiday baking hacks is to make pocket pies, aka hand pies, instead of full-size pies. They’re easier to serve at a party or bring along on a trip to the apple orchard. I love these fall pocket pie molds because they make even the most basic pumpkin hand pies look festive and fun. Pop It Out with a Pumpkin Mold I love watching fall baking shows and stealing cool techniques from the pros. That’s how I learned that I could shape festive mousses, cheesecakes, and more with silicone molds. This mold makes perfectly shaped pumpkin confections. Hot chocolate bombs are one of my favorite fall foods to make in these molds. Create a Cookie Cutter Holiday For me, it just isn’t a holiday if I haven’t decorated a ton of sugar cookies. I recently upgraded to these stainless steel fall cookie cutters for more fun options. Fun tip: Instead of topping your apple pie with a traditional lattice crust, use crust cutouts made with these cookie cutters to create a fun design.   Make Delicious Gingerbread People, Fast I’m a big fan of homemade. After all, almost everything tastes better when you make it from scratch. Gingerbread is one of my big exceptions to this rule. I started using this gingerbread mix because it’s a quick option on a busy day. Now I use it anytime I want to make gingerbread. It’s fast, more affordable than from-scratch, and every bit as good as a homemade batch of ginger people.   Pick Up a Pumpkin Mix If it feels like fall outside, it feels like pumpkin bread time to me. Nothing goes together better than a fall celebration and baked goods flavored with pumpkin. I keep a few boxes of this pumpkin bread and muffin mix on hand. This is a go-to for me whenever I have a pumpkin craving or invite friends over in the fall. Plate Up Some Pumpkin Spice Pancakes Pumpkin spice is a fall force to be reckoned with. Half of the new fall products I see in the food and home aisles boast this signature autumn spice. No matter how many new candies or baking recipes I see with pumpkin spice, classic pumpkin spice pancakes will always be my favorite. I love serving a platter of these pancakes with whipped cream and maple syrup for topping. Pour On Genuine Maple Syrup Maple is a classic holiday flavor that features in everything from baked goods to roast meats. The trick to getting the best maple flavor in your fall baking is to use real maple syrup. Tip: Maple syrup is a perishable food product and will mold over time. It should be stored in your fridge after opening.   Get a Unique Taste with Pecan Butter When I see unique nut butters in grocery ads, I can’t help but try them. This pecan butter is one of my favorite baking ideas so far. A little bit of pecan butter goes a long way and adds a ton of flavor to baking recipes that call for peanut or almond butter. Accent Your Kitchen with Fall Towels My kitchen sees a lot of traffic. I want it to look festive for Halloween and Thanksgiving, but it’s not the easiest room to decorate. Instead of trying to shove more décor onto my countertops, I opt for fall kitchen towels that bring a festive burst of autumn color to my space. Break Out the Holiday Bundt Pan Have you ever noticed how many holiday recipes are for bundt cakes? They’re generally easy to make, tasty, and perfect for serving a crowd. Honestly, though, bundts can be pretty boring too. This holiday, mix up your dessert table with a cake made in this harvest leaves bundt pan instead. Get Decked Out in a Holiday Apron More than a few of my nice cold-weather shirts have gotten stained in the kitchen. This holiday season, I’m protecting my shirts with a pretty fall apron. I’ve purchased this apron in a few different prints so I always have one on hand. Drench Your World in Caramel Look, this block of caramel is no joke. Weighing in at 5 pounds, it’s a holiday heavyweight and a real baking deal. Try one of my fall favorites by dipping marshmallows in caramel and rolling them in sprinkles. Pro tip: Use a mini slow cooker or fondue pot to melt caramel for dipping. Give Joy with a Candy Apple Packaging Set My dentist might not approve, but I still love indulging in caramel and candy apples. The only thing better than eating this delicious holiday food is giving one to a friend. This candy apple gift set makes it easier to give my candy apple creations to others without making a sticky mess. Cut Clean-Up Time with Food-Safe Silicone Mats If you like cleaning up after a long day of holiday baking, you’re not from this planet. I hate scrubbing cookies off baking pans most of all. It takes too much time and patience, but parchment paper for every batch of cookies gets expensive too. The answer? Food-safe silicone mats. I’m never going back to scrubbing. Protect Yourself with Mini Oven Mitts Until I found these mini oven mitts, I’d never met an oven mitt I liked. Most are way too big for my small hands and end up gathering dust. These miniature mitts protect my hands without getting in the way of my holiday baking. Whip Up a Pie Crust in Double Time   Who else dreams of flaky pie crusts bursting with fall fruits? I know I’m not the only one! I love making my pie dreams come true with the help of this pie crust mix. It’s a great timesaver when I feel like I’m falling behind on my fall baking. Make That Pecan Pie Without a Fuss Pecans are right up there with chestnuts when it comes to classic holiday nuts. My Thanksgiving spread always includes a delectable pecan pie. This pecan pie in a jar is one of my favorite holiday deals because the only other ingredients I need to make a pie are a crust and some eggs.

Crypto Trader DonAlt Posts Bitcoin Price Prediction – ‘I’m Buying Now’ – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/crypto-trader-donalt-posts-bitcoin-price-prediction-im-buying-now-cryptonews/ DonAlt shared a new Bitcoin price prediction today to Twitter and YouTube, where he has a combined 469,000 followers including subscribers to the TechnicalRoundup YouTube channel. DonAlt (@CryptoDonAlt) stated he’s ‘buying now’ at around the $19,000 level, and is ‘always comfortable buying below $20,000’ – timestamp 14:10 in the below video.  He isn’t ruling out Bitcoin trading lower in the short term, in which case he’ll ‘buy more’ and add to his spot position – cautioning against using leverage with CPI data coming on Thursday. DonAlt streams live on the TechnicalRoundup channel each week alongside another popular trader @CryptoCred, who has 501,000 followers on Twitter. DonAlt Bitcoin Price Prediction – Crypto Twitter DonAlt’s rationale – shared by various other notable crypto Twitter accounts such as TraderSZ and CryptoISO – is that the markets have been so battered and beaten down, that a move to the upside is more likely at the current time. Even if only as a bear market rally to squeeze offside shorts, within the long term macro downtrend. His advice is to buy the dip on Bitcoin now when the market is ‘depressing’, as a better play than FOMO’ing into green candles and $100,000+ price targets shared by the most vocal Bitcoin bulls like Michael Saylor. DonAlt also tweeted that his ‘gut feeling for the trad markets’ (e.g. the S&P 500) is down, but that crypto would begin to decouple finally and move up. In the past few days Bitcoin has shown signs of resilience versus the SPX – while so far in 2022 that’s simply been a sign of cryptocurrency lagging behind, DonAlt is optimistic that the correlation between Bitcoin and stocks will come to an end. DonAlt’s new Bitcoin price prediction is notable with his wide following and since he accurately warned traders of the incoming bear market back around the November 2021 top. When Bitcoin printed an SFP (swing failure pattern) at the former $65,000 high, DonAlt tweeted along the lines of ‘see you guys in a year‘.  Then as the Bitcoin price began its now almost twelve month correction, DonAlt cautioned against opening a position, mostly remaining in cash – until now. Weekly timeframe Bitcoin price chart, source – TechnicalRoundup Later in his Bitcoin analysis video DonAlt marked out the price levels above. He mentioned that while he doesn’t think Bitcoin will reach $33k in the short term, by the first quarter of 2023, he doesn’t predict it will hit the $12 – $14k area either – a common price target of Bitcoin bears, and monthly support. His current Bitcoin price target is the $29,000 area where he will sell Bitcoin to derisk. Crypto Price Movements The Bitcoin price is currently testing the $19,200 level and up almost 1% in the past 24 hours, quickly recovering from two minor dips earlier today when PPI data and FOMC minutes were released. Given Bitcoin’s strength today, CryptoISO – who has 115,000 followers – expects it to rally tomorrow if the CPI has a ‘hint of anything positive’. Several altcoins we have been watching closely are back in the headlines – Tamadoge (TAMA) is up 29% in the past day on OKX exchange. Terra Classic is trending on new news that Binance has burned almost 3 billion LUNC from the circulating supply. The IMPT token presale is also nearing the $4 million raised mark. U.S., Mexico Agree Plan To Tackle Jump In Venezuelan Migration – Reuters Canada https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/u-s-mexico-agree-plan-to-tackle-jump-in-venezuelan-migration-reuters-canada/ MEXICO CITY, Oct 12 (Reuters) – U.S. and Mexican officials have agreed a plan for Venezuelan migrants that will enable thousands of people from the South American country to enter the United States by air and also send some Venezuelans to Mexico, Mexico’s government said Wednesday. The latest scheme to manage higher border flows was launched as the United States and Mexico attempt to deal with a sharp increase in undocumented immigration from Venezuela. It will be based on the “Uniting for Ukraine” program, according to a Mexican government statement, under which Ukrainians could enter the United States by securing a sponsor and applying from outside the country. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com From Oct. 12, U.S. authorities will begin managing access of 24,000 Venezuelan migrants by air, the statement added. Mexico would “temporarily” allow some Venezuelan nationals to enter Mexico through the U.S. border, the statement said. Under the plan, only applicants who comply with its rules will be accepted, and they must not appear at the U.S.-Mexico border, it added. Venezuelans who enter Mexico from Oct. 12 will not be able to apply to enter U.S. territory from Mexico. To qualify for the program, a person or organization based in the United States must support the applicant’s request, and they would enter U.S. territory by air, the statement said. Rite Aid Lands Major Technology Pact With Google Cloud – Supermarket News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/rite-aid-lands-major-technology-pact-with-google-cloud-supermarket-news/ Rite Aid has entered a sweeping technology partnership with Google Cloud designed to give the drugstore, pharmacy care and health services company a more flexible, data-driven and efficient platform for growth and operations. Plans call for Google Cloud technologies to arm Philadelphia-based Rite Aid with sharper insights, more agility and enhances customer experiences, the companies said yesterday. Modernized applications for personalized digital experiences, too, will position Rite Aid’s over 6,400 pharmacists to spend more time interacting directly with patients. Under the multiyear agreement, Rite Aid is slated to migrate key applications to Google Cloud’s Anthos managed platform for application deployment. Those applications will include Rite Aid’s vaccine scheduling tool, customer messaging infrastructure and digital engagement platform. Google Cloud noted that Anthos with give Rite Aid pharmacies cloud computing capabilities on-site, enabling more resilient operations. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based tech giant said strategic business continuity will Rite Aid to continue to provide elevated care during natural disasters through robust patient information, advanced prescription management and the ability to offer recommendations without needing to be connected to centralized, legacy mainframe technology. More specifically, Rite Aid said, the Google Cloud partnership will help the company “realize its vision of a modern pharmacy.” “The power of pharmacies, and the important role pharmacists play in the health of their communities, greatly expanded during COVID. Realizing that potential means making strategic investments in technology that can truly help our customers and maximize the capabilities of our pharmacists,” according to Justin Mennen, executive vice president and chief digital and technology officer at Rite Aid. “Google Cloud’s solutions are uniquely positioned to run at each pharmacy location to allow our store teams to help our customers to achieve whole health for life.” Rite Aid In late 2020, Rite Aid unveiled its ‘pharmacy of the future’ concept that included an elevated role for pharmacists and stores offering a wider range of products and services to promote wellness. What’s more, Rite Aid has enlisted Google Cloud to drive digital transformations across other parts of its business. Those efforts include the following: • Enterprise data migration: Rite Aid will shift its enterprise data to Google Cloud using BigQuery. With the move, its pharmacies stand to have better insights into its finances, supply chain inventory and customer information, enabling data-driven decisions for business operations. • Enhanced search: Google Cloud’s Retail Search solution will give Rite Aid customers more precise search results when shopping on Rite Aid’s e-commerce site and mobile app. The improved search experience leverages Google-quality search models to understand customer intent and taps Rite Aid’s first-party data — such as promotions, available inventory and price — for product ranking results. • Updated PBM application suite: Elixir, Rite Aid’s pharmacy benefit management and services unit, will update its current PBM application suite to a cloud-first experience, with artificial intelligence and machine learning-infused business logic capabilities. New Google Cloud data analytics and processing capabilities will help the PBM better manage prescription benefits for health insurers, the companies said. “As a health care company with a retail footprint, Rite Aid is at the intersection of two quickly evolving industries and making strategic technology investments to meet rising customer expectations,” Carrie Tharp, vice president of retail and consumer solutions for Google Cloud, said in a statement. “Through these innovations, Rite Aid is defining the modern pharmacy.” The nation’s third-largest drugstore chain, Rite Aid totaled fiscal 2022 revenue of $24.57 billion. That included about $17.37 billion in its Retail Pharmacy business unit (front-end sales of $5.22 billion and pharmacy sales of $12.15 billion) plus roughly $7.2 billion in sales from its Pharmacy Services unit. Rite Aid follows a range of companies in the food, drug and mass channel partnering with cloud and IT services giants in recent years. Companies teaming up with Google include C&S Wholesale Grocers, Albertsons Cos., Hy-Vee and The Kroger Co., among other. Food, drug and mass retailers partnering with cloud and tech services rival Microsoft include Loblaw Cos., Kroger, Albertsons, Walmart, Costco Wholesale, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Giant Eagle. Amazon Inc.’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) subsidiary also has brought food and grocery players into a cloud-based computing architecture, including Instacart, Ocado, Sainsbury, HelloFresh and, of course, Amazon.com and Amazon Fresh.

Get Your Game On At Till Dawn; New Gaming Cafe/bar Offers A Lot – Westside Seattle https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/get-your-game-on-at-till-dawn-new-gaming-cafe-bar-offers-a-lot-westside-seattle/ Playing on a Nintendo Switch platform tower Till Dawn at 5048 California Ave SW, gamers can play against each other, in tournaments. PlayStation and XBox towers are planned for the gaming cafe/bar.  Photo by Patrick Robinson Wed, 10/12/2022 Till Dawn is unique in West Seattle and that’s completely intentional. It’s a game themed cafe/bar from the creative mind of Andrew Spence whose other restaurant Two Fingers Social on Delridge Way SW celebrates its five year anniversary Oct.13. There are other places where you can play pinball but at Till Dawn, at 5048 California Ave SW games of all kinds are the primary draw.  There are gaming stations, each with its own monitor and console. Gamers will be able to play individually, tournament-style or as teams. Also planned is a private Dungeons and Dragons game room. Currently it’s set up with Nintendo Switch but PlayStation and Xbox stations are planned. These in addition to pinball and video games complete the entertainment offerings. The decor is gaming inspired of course with both street style graffiti art and gaming world murals in a largely dark gaming area, illuminated by changing LED lights and the glow and flicker from the monitors. Annie Yu and Andrew Spence of Till Dawn. Photo by Patrick Robinson   Andrew and wife Annie Yu work in the space with others offering coffee from Boon Boona and 40 different international beers in the bottle. Food is primarily Japanese snacks (think breaded snack bites with savory fillings), fruit sandwiches, Dochi donuts plus snack foods like Hot Cheetos and a gamer’s favorite, Mountain Dew. “We try to feature bakery items from POC bakeries. We’re trying to bring something different to West Seattle because I feel like a lot of places don’t have a lot of asian goods,” said Annie. “I was looking for a place with foot traffic,” said Andrew, “and this is the former licensing place. I used to get my tabs here! I was getting frustrated looking for a place but when they took it down to concrete and white walls I saw it and it was perfect for what I want to do.” Two Fingers satisfies the “movie nerd” in him Andrew said but “this is just another extension of my nerd status” as he explained, This is my coffee nerd, beer nerd and gamer nerd side.” He also shared that “The name comes from grinding away on a video game until you see the sunlight peeping through the blinds and you realize you’ve been playing all night!” Till Dawn is all ages, even though they sell beer. Andrew used to work at Brouwers Cafe in Fremont where he gained his beer knowledge prior to opening Two Fingers. Wine and other liquor is planned for the future. They are open Tuesday through Sunday from 8am till 10pm. Outdoor seating on California Ave is offered too at Till Dawn. Photo by Patrick Robinson

How You Can Get Paid To Visit A Part Of Italy By Train – Vancouver Is Awesome https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/how-you-can-get-paid-to-visit-a-part-of-italy-by-train-vancouver-is-awesome/ One area is also known as the ‘little Venice’ of Italy. Italy is a bucket list destination for many Canadian travellers — but they typically don’t enjoy fighting crowds or forking out big bucks to stay in accommodations in its most popular cities.  While tourist meccas like Rome, Florence, and Venice are typically more expensive, thrifty tourists can save even more money by visiting a less frequented region of the country.  Located in northeastern Italy, the picturesque Friuli Venezia Giulia borders Austria, Slovenia, and the Adriatic Sea. A part of the region is known as the “little Venice” of Italy because of its canals, while other areas are coveted for their breathtaking alpine vistas.  The local Italian tourism board, PromoTurismoFVG, will reimburse travellers for the cost of transportation from anywhere in the country to the region until May 31, 2023, as part of an initiative to drive sustainable travel.  Visitors must book a package holiday that includes the train ticket as well as an overnight stay in any of the following cities and towns: Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine or Trieste. How to book the Italy experience Travellers may only book their vacation through a travel agency called Travel One Tour Operator to take advantage of the promotion. Tickets must arrive and/or depart from the following railway stations: Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, or Trieste Centrale, Udine station. The promotional package also includes the FVGcard: a card that offers discounts and free admission to many attractions, including guided tours and free access to museums, castles, and churches.  The FVGcard is also the Passport of the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori (The Route of Wine and Flavours), which includes three free tastings with two glasses of wine. There are several round-trip tickets available from Vancouver to Venice for just over $900 CAD including all taxes and fees. However, you may want to start your European adventure elsewhere. Keep in mind that plane tickets within Europe are inexpensive, so if you fly into another city, such as Amsterdam, you can also take a cheap flight or a train ride to Italy.  %

State Poised To Extend Solar Grandfathering Deadline Governor Says Arkansas Business Online
State Poised To Extend Solar ‘Grandfathering’ Deadline, Governor Says – Arkansas Business Online https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/state-poised-to-extend-solar-grandfathering-deadline-governor-says-arkansas-business-online/ The Arkansas Advanced Energy Association got a couple of welcome surprises Wednesday at its annual emPOWER gathering in Little Rock. Along with networking time, industry discussions and awards presentations at the Clinton Presidential Center, the group of energy efficiency, renewable energy and performance contracting professionals received assurances from Gov. Asa Hutchinson that the state is prepared to extend net metering “grandfathering” rules that lock down the price solar array owners receive for the power they create over the lives of their systems. And Cody Waits, director of the Arkansas Office of Skills Development, announced a $2 million grant to the AAEA for a workforce development training program. “It’s huge,” said Heather Nelson, president of Seal Solar of North Little Rock and the trade group’s board chair. Hutchinson, who received the Ron Bell Award for individual contributions to advanced energy in Arkansas, assured the group that the state is poised to extend rules governing net metering rates for solar energy that customers’ systems return to the grid. “Let me mention one other thing that might be of interest to you, and I know the [Arkansas Public Safety Commission] has been working on net net metering rules. And because we have a deadline that is coming Dec. 31 of this year for our net metering rules, let me tell you very clearly that that deadline … needs to be extended,” said the governor, who is in the last few months of his eight-year administration. “There needs to be a fixed rate for the interconnectivity agreement for 20 years for consistency in locking in the rates for investments in solar,” Hutchinson continued. “I think really the only debate is how long the extension [of grandfathering in a 20 year fixed credit rate] should be.” The governor said he envisioned an extension of at least two years. In that time, he said, “our policymakers can continue to examine it and fine-tune the rules… But that deadline needs to be expanded.” As the PSC has worked on the issue, the governor has offered feedback, he said. He also praised another of Wednesday’s speakers, former PSC Chairman Ted Thomas, who resigned after eight years on the utility regulatory panel at the first of the month, as well as the lawyer he chose to succeed Thomas, Katie Anderson. “Thank you, Ted, for your service and your support in the solar industry as a leader,” Hutchinson said. “I think our new chair will catch up very quickly and do a great job as she helps resolve some of these thorny issues that are still pending.” The governor has declared this October as Energy Awareness month in Arkansas, calling it his opportunity to “remind Arkansans of the importance of all of the alternative energy sources and how we’re the Natural State, with a need to continue promoting the development of our natural resources in ways that minimize waste and employ alternative energy sources.” The grandfathering issue in net metering was the association’s top priority heading into its 10th annual meeting, Executive Director Lauren Waldrip said. The association’s Advanced Energy Rising Star Award went to Jade Anuszek, co-founder and president of Arkansas Solar Power Inc., a residential and commercial solar contractor. A former real estate agent, Anuszek is “passionate about about bridging the gap of solar affordability, and promoting grid flexibility.” The Advanced Energy Innovation Award went to Evolve Auto of North Little Rock, which specializes in selling used but pristine electric cars.

How To Cope With The Stress Of IVF | SBM Society Of Behavioral Medicine
How To Cope With The Stress Of IVF | SBM – Society Of Behavioral Medicine https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/how-to-cope-with-the-stress-of-ivf-sbm-society-of-behavioral-medicine/ Joanna Buscemi, PhD, Depaul University If you are about to embark on an in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed. The process is fraught with stressors, including concerns about cost, the IVF process itself, and whether the procedure will be successful – all while continuing to manage day-to-day obligations. Your decision to pursue IVF may also follow significant medical and pregnancy loss trauma and/or years of infertility. Coping with that trauma while beginning an intensive medical treatment with an uncertain outcome is a lot to manage. While stress is an inevitable part of IVF, there are strategies available to help support you along the way. Here is a non-comprehensive list of tips to help you better cope with the stress of IVF: Take it one step at a time. The IVF process is overwhelming. It starts with lots of baseline appointments, discussions about insurance coverage, and treatment decisions to be made before beginning a cycle. This is followed by numerous medications that you may not understand how to use showing up at your door, each requiring different preparation.Unless you are a medical professional yourself, mixing medications or loading up syringes will likely be a new task, and this can be difficult to learn while you are managing the myriad of emotions associated with fertility treatment. It is important to try to complete the checklist one item at a time rather than allowing yourself to become overwhelmed by the number of steps required from start to finish. Prioritize self-care. Most of the time, normal life continues during your IVF cycle, and it can be difficult to manage what is required for IVF along with other stressors. While research that stress doesn’t have a notable effect on IVF success, your well-being is reason enough to prioritize self-care.  It is extra important to make space to be kind to yourself when you can before, during, and after the IVF cycle. What activities do you love to do? What brings you joy? What activities make you feel loved and cared for? Prioritize time for these activities as possible. Practice distress tolerance. The uncertainty of IVF at each stage makes it difficult to feel at ease. There are techniques that can help you accept discomfort associated with loss of control and unpredictability. While it can be difficult to sit with the distress, it is an important practice that may translate to better overall distress tolerance skills in the future. You can find specific strategies for distress tolerance here. Find your best 1-2 social supports, preferably other people who understand the stress of IVF. IVF is personal and can feel like a lonely journey. It may be helpful to build a small but reliable and helpful network of people who have gone through the IVF process themselves. While their treatment protocols and experiences may differ from yours, having a couple of people who are willing to listen to how you are feeling or share their perspective can be really helpful. Find a therapist who provides evidence-based care for people with fertility struggles. Therapists who specialize in infertility and/or pregnancy loss and fertility treatment are hard to come by but are the absolute best experts to help you on your fertility journey. If you cannot find someone who specializes in infertility and/or pregnancy loss, it is important to find someone who has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and evidence-based interventions for trauma. Consider asking your fertility doctor for referrals. Be cautious of social media IVF groups. It can be tempting to join social media groups to seek support. Sometimes these groups can be helpful. In other cases, they fuel anxieties with pregnancy announcements or stories of failed transfers. They can also be a source of fertility related misinformation. As an example, some IVF groups insist that eating a pineapple core or drinking pomegranate juice will increase your odds of successful embryo transfer. While neither of those behaviors will hurt you, it’s highly unlikely to impact your odds of success, at all. These groups sometimes lead to social comparisons that are not always helpful. Each treatment plan is unique, and outcomes vary drastically. Become aware of how you feel while engaging with these posts, then decide whether they are helpful or harmful.  Remember that stress does not affect IVF or pregnancy outcomes. Navigating the IVF process is stressful enough. Worrying that your stress is going to lead to a failed IVF cycle or harm your pregnancy only exacerbates overall distress. While using coping strategies to manage stress is a good idea, worrying about your stress levels is not. If you are experiencing stress, show yourself some compassion and remind yourself that this is difficult. It’s ok to feel the weight of that difficulty as you move through the process. Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 But Isnt Worried About Kansas Gaming Today
Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 But Isnt Worried About Kansas Gaming Today
Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 – But Isn’t Worried About Kansas – Gaming Today https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/missouri-will-try-again-for-sports-betting-in-2023-but-isnt-worried-about-kansas-gaming-today/ Missouri state lawmaker Dan Houx doesn’t see the Kansas City Chiefs leaving Missouri. He’s even more confident they won’t leave Missouri for Kansas.  Kansas launched retail and online sports betting through state-operated casinos on Sept. 1 under legislation passed last May. That law puts a 10 percent tax on operator revenue, with the majority of state revenue going into an “Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund” – with the Chiefs considered a clear target.  In neighboring Missouri, sports betting has yet to be legalized. But Houx doesn’t see Kansas as much of a threat to become a real relocation destination for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.  “I don’t see that happening,” Houx told Gaming Today on Tuesday. “What they did in their (legislation) is the revenue goes to entice a team to come to Kansas (but) their revenues are extremely low. Say their sportsbook’s bringing in $10 million a year – it’s going to take a long time to get to $1 billion for a new stadium.” According to Houx, Missouri is Chiefs’ territory. He estimates at least 75 percent of Missourians are Chiefs fans. When asked about whispers of a move to Kansas, Houx didn’t mince words. “If you want to see a real border war, if the Chiefs packed up and went to Kansas, it would be something else. I think you would see memorabilia burnt in the streets, so to speak,” he told Gaming Today. “We’re a great state and we love our football,” said the Warrensburg Republican. “It’s the whole Midwest you’ve got to think about – from Iowa to Nebraska, to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas – the Chiefs are central to it all.”  KC Chiefs, Other Teams Want Legal Missouri Sports Betting A new, or even renovated stadium is definitely on the Chiefs’ wish list. But that’s only part of what the franchise wants.  The Chiefs also want legal sports betting in Missouri.  Last spring, the team and other pro sports franchises in the state – including the Royals – worked with Houx and other lawmakers to bring legal options to the state. If the bill had passed, legal sports betting (via licensed online apps tied to the stadiums and casinos) would have launched earlier this year. Casinos would also have been allowed in-person sportsbooks.  “If you want to see a real border war, if the Chiefs packed up and went to Kansas, it would be something else.” — Lawmaker Dan Houx  It didn’t happen. The bill was instead derailed in May after lawmakers disagreed on an amendment that would have legalized up to 5,000 video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in the state.  In another attempt, Houx tried again to pass the bill last month during a special tax session in Jefferson City. That proposal would have bumped the tax rate up to 10 percent from 8 percent in the bill last spring, but otherwise would have been the same. Unfortunately, the bill didn’t advance.  What’s Next for Missouri Sports Betting? Houx expects much better results when he files a similar bill during the Missouri 2023 regular session starting Jan. 4. The tax rate is likely to be much higher in the next bill, he said (between 15 and 17 percent), but would still give pro teams and casinos online sportsbooks and casinos a retail option. At 17 percent, Missouri state revenues would be nearly double the $13-$15 million annual tax revenue that would have been generated by the proposal last spring. “We had a hearing on the bill during the special session and (one legislator) said the number one thing she’s hearing from door-knocking is ‘why don’t we have sports betting?’” said Houx.  “People want it. The legislature wants it. It’s going to be a top priority – I’d say in the top 5 – in January.” Expansion Could Be in the Cards for Chiefs The Chiefs haven’t said for sure that they even want to leave Missouri. And Houx’s prediction of a long slog to get Kansas to $1 billion might be accurate. Revenue reported by KSNT-TV on Monday shows Kansas sports betting revenue totaled $1.3 million in its first month of operation.  The state’s share of that is about $130,000.  Additionally, the Chiefs have good options for growth in Missouri, said Houx. One includes a possible expansion at the Truman Sports Complex, should the KC Royals follow through with plans to eventually move to downtown Kansas City.  The Chiefs are tied to a lease at Arrowhead Field through 2031, giving the franchise and the state time to formulate an expansion plan. Chiefs CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt said a renovation of Arrowhead is a possibility in a press conference last November:  “We think that GEHA Field at Arrowhead is still one of the finest stadiums in the National Football League,” said Hunt. “Obviously, things change, and the way fans want to consume the game, and the kind of spaces that you need … those things change over time and we’re paying attention to that. “There will be things, when we get to the end of our lease here in nine or so years, I’m sure, that we’ll want to incorporate into the stadium. One possibility will be another renovation of Arrowhead.”

Dogecoin Price Prediction As Elon Musk Launches Fragrance Accepting DOGE Payments – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/dogecoin-price-prediction-as-elon-musk-launches-fragrance-accepting-doge-payments-cryptonews/ Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com. Elon Musk, the billionaire industrialist and Dogecoin enthusiast, has launched a new fragrance that can be purchased using Dogecoin.  Can this be the catalyst for DOGE’s jump, especially with the market’s bear run?  DOGE Price Movement DOGE, one of the best meme coins, has been bearish for the past few days. The digital asset currently trades at $0.06045. Although DOGE has pumped by 0.38% in the past 24 hours, its weekly price peg indicates a downtrend of 7%. DOGE’s technicals show that the crypto asset currently trades above all of its short-term moving average (MA) indicators; however, its 100-day and 200-day MAs ($0.06070 and $0.0609) are above its current price.  With a positive moving average convergence divergence (MACD), DOGE indicates a buy signal. In addition, the crypto asset’s relative strength index (RSI) of 58.11 reveals that it’s not massively overbought.  Buy DOGE on eToro Now Elon Musk’s New Fragrance Accepts DOGE The biggest news for DOGE seems to be the recent launch of Burnt Hair, a fresh fragrance launched by Elon Musk.  Musk shared the fragrance’s first look in the early hours of Wednesday. The billionaire included a purchase link hosted by The Boring Company, his tunnel construction project. Each bottle of Burnt Hair costs $100, and Musk confirmed that DOGE payments are accepted for the cologne. Just a few hours after announcing it, Musk confirmed that 10,000 bottles of Burnt Hair had been sold. However, the billionaire has yet to confirm how many bottles were bought using DOGE.  Burnt Hair is the second recent notable DOGE-related development coming from Musk.  DOGE’s Twitter Takeover Last week, Musk’s lawyers filed to complete his $44 billion takeover of Twitter, possibly bringing an end to a back-and-forth that has gone on for months between both parties.  According to phone transcripts, the billionaire proposed that users pay a small fee in DOGE whenever they want to tweet or retweet something. It is still unclear whether this will be possible, but there is growing confidence that Musk will include a role for DOGE to play as he takes over Twitter and reshapes the social networking giant.  Google Cloud Integrates DOGE Another bullish news for DOGE is Google’s partnership with notable crypto exchange Coinbase. According to reports, the internet conglomerate has partnered with Coinbase to accept crypto payments for its Google Cloud service.   At its Cloud Next conference, Google Cloud Vice President and General Manager Amit Zavery explained that Google would start accepting crypto payments from a “handful” of customers through its integration with Coinbase Commerce, a payment tool for businesses. Coinbase Commerce currently accepts payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), DOGE, and Tether (USDT).   Although the terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, Jim Migdal, Vice President of business development at Coinbase, reportedly announced that the deal would follow other arrangements with Coinbase Commerce. The exchange will likely receive a cut of every transaction that goes through the system.  Conclusion  Dogecoin is an interesting asset for prospective investors in the crypto space. However, investors looking to make a meaningful change can consider IMPT, the native token for Impact Protocol.  Impact Protocol intends to use blockchain to fight climate change by allowing users to purchase carbon credits. Its IMPT token presale is currently one of the best crypto presales, already raising $3 million. Investors can buy IMPT tokens on the website.  Visit IMPT Now

Venezuela Objects To U.S. Court’s Calendar To Sell Citgo Parent’s Shares – Reuters.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/venezuela-objects-to-u-s-courts-calendar-to-sell-citgo-parents-shares-reuters-com/ CARACAS, Oct 12 (Reuters) – The Venezuelan government on Wednesday objected to what it called an “arbitrary decision” by a U.S. court that approved a calendar for auctioning shares in the parent of Houston-based refiner Citgo Petroleum, which is owned by Venezuela. U.S. District Court Judge Leonard P. Stark on Tuesday posted the approved calendar, a step toward the possible breakup of the seventh-largest U.S. oil refiner to pay for expropriation judgments, even though lawyers representing the Venezuelan government had objected to the proposal. Venezuela “categorically rejects this reckless decision,” the government said in a statement on Wednesday. “This irritating decision, in violation of international law, constitutes a new escalation of illegal maneuvers.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Unlike its ultimate parent, Caracas-based state oil company PDVSA, Citgo has been controlled since 2019 by the Venezuelan opposition and overseen by supervisory boards. “All objections… are hereby overruled and denied on the merits with prejudice,” Judge Stark ruled on the objections to the calendar, including Venezuela’s. Since Washington does not recognize President Nicolas Maduro’s leadership after calling his 2018 re-election a sham, the U.S. Treasury Department has so far protected Citgo from any ownership changes, including those proposed by creditors. Venezuela said it will take action before international bodies and mechanisms to defend the asset, without providing details. Stark last year had approved the sale of shares in PDV Holding, one of the companies in the ownership chain between PDVSA and Citgo Petroleum whose sole asset is Citgo, to pay $970 million to Canadian miner Crystallex International. FBI Arrests Two Men With Plans To hunt And Kill Migrants go To War With American Government Daily Kos
FBI Arrests Two Men With Plans To ‘hunt’ And Kill Migrants, ‘go To War’ With American Government – Daily Kos https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/fbi-arrests-two-men-with-plans-to-hunt-and-kill-migrants-go-to-war-with-american-government-daily-kos/ Anti-immigrant rhetoric seems to be increasing nationwide. While more people with this mentality are being arrested, it’s scary to think of how many are plotting hate crimes and getting away with them. The FBI arrested two men this week after they not only threatened to kill immigrants but to “go to war” against the American government. The men, who were identified as 37-year-old Bryan C. Perry and 32-year-old Jonathan S. O’Dell, were charged Friday. According to CBS News affiliate KCTV5, each man faces separate criminal complaints filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. Federal prosecutors charged Perry with one count of transmitting a threat across state lines to injure another person, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and one count of forcibly assaulting an FBI agent with a deadly weapon. O’Dell was charged with one count of transmitting a threat across state lines to injure another person and one count of unlawfully possessing a firearm. The arrests follow an anonymous tip sent to the FBI National Threats Operation Center in September about threats made on the TikTok account @trashpanda1774, the FBI said in a statement to Clarksville Now. “I am probably the only one right now that is ready to go to war against this government,” the user said in one video. Investigations into the TikTok account found the posts on the account were made by Perry. In another video on the account, Perry made references to taking the country back, saying, “when we do, we will eradicate every m———– that is part of a communist mindset. You can take that to the f—— bank. No mercy. No surrender.” According to KCTV5, documents indicate that Perry was staying at O’Dell’s residence in Missouri. A video posted on or about Sept. 25, 2022 to the TikTok account @mobornfromthe90s depicts the two men expressing a desire to secure the southern border, using methods that included taking lives if necessary, the FBI said. The video came three days after a video posted to the first account claiming their “little group is moving out as soon as possible,” with the intent of “shoot(ing) to kill.” Other videos expressed the pair’s intent to go “hunting.” In addition to posting about shooting undocumented folks, the pair expressed a desire to go to war with the government. “I am probably the only one right now that is ready to go to war against this government, and I don’t mean just talk about it, I mean grab my rifle and go to D.C. and take this country back physically, not sit in a basement and talk about it,” Perry said in a post. After receiving the tip, the FBI conducted surveillance on the social media accounts. In reference to their findings, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said: “The investigation produced information that led authorities to believe at least two individuals in Benton County were planning to head to South Texas on Saturday, October 8th with a plot to kill illegal immigrants and border patrol agents as well as future plans to attack Washington DC.” The FBI executed a search warrant Friday, Oct. 7 at O’Dell’s residence, where the pair met up to go to Texas. Both men were taken into custody. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey Clark and Trial Attorney Jacob Warren from the counterterrorism section of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, Clarksville Now reported. The news of Perry and O’Dell’s plan to kill migrants at the southern border comes at a time when several cases of violence against migrants in that area have come to light. In a recent incident, two brothers were arrested for the shooting of two migrants. One of the perpetrators was a former immigration jail warden. The shots were fired while a group of 13 immigrants were drinking water out of a reservoir. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Texas Tribune, the brothers yelled using racist language prior to the shooting. Anti-immigrant rhetoric is at an all-time high with hate crimes and violence against people of color increasing nationwide. We need better leaders instated to ensure America’s history of xenophobia comes to an end. Hate cannot and should not be tolerated. Republicans and the right wing have for too long scapegoated and blamed immigrants for issues in efforts to press their anti-immigrant agenda. This must change. Abortion rights, climate change, and gun safety are all on the ballot this fall. Click to start writing Postcards to Democratic-leaning voters in targeted House districts today.

The Single Busiest Day To Fly Around Thanksgiving MySA
The Single Busiest Day To Fly Around Thanksgiving MySA
The Single Busiest Day To Fly Around Thanksgiving – MySA https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/the-single-busiest-day-to-fly-around-thanksgiving-mysa/ Thanksgiving week tends to draw major airport crowds. Coupled with inevitable weather delays and sometimes infrequent flyers, it can be a brutal time to travel. Not to mention, the conventional wisdom to fly on Tuesdays won’t necessarily save you much money. But some days within Thanksgiving week are significantly busier than others. If you can afford to be flexible with your schedule, you’ll not only save money, but you might also avoid chaos. The best and worst days to fly around Thanksgiving NerdWallet analyzed the past three years of checkpoint travel numbers provided by the Transportation Security Administration, which tracks the number of passengers screened daily at U.S. TSA checkpoints. In each of the past three years, the Sunday after Thanksgiving was the most crowded day to travel from the Friday before Thanksgiving through the Wednesday after. As far as the least crowded? Thanksgiving Day itself. When averaging over the past three years, here were the most to least crowded days for Thanksgiving flying, ranked: Sunday after Thanksgiving (most crowded). Wednesday before. Saturday after. Friday before. Cyber Monday. Sunday before. Tuesday before. Monday before. Saturday before. Giving Tuesday. Black Friday. Wednesday after. Thanksgiving Day (least crowded). When broken out by pre- and post-holiday travel, here are the three least-crowded days to travel ranked from least to most crowded. Because they’re less crowded and likely less expensive, it makes them some of the best days to fly around Thanksgiving. Pre-holiday: Saturday before. Monday before. Tuesday before. Post-holiday: Wednesday after. Black Friday. Giving Tuesday. Why flying the Sunday after Thanksgiving is so terrible By almost all metrics, the Sunday after Thanksgiving is pretty much the worst day of the year you could fly. In both 2021 and 2019, it was the busiest single day of the entire year in terms of U.S. passengers, based on TSA passenger data. The post-Thanksgiving Sunday was not the busiest day of the year in 2020 because, well, you know why (2020’s most-crowded-day award went to Friday, Feb. 14, which preceded the Presidents Day weekend and pandemic-related travel restrictions). But although 2020 holiday crowds were certainly lighter than usual, the trend of Sunday as a busy day still rang true. Over 2x more people passed through TSA on the Sunday after than those who passed through on Thanksgiving in 2020. Here’s a numerical breakdown of crowds on Thanksgiving Day itself versus the Sunday after Thanksgiving for the past three years: For every 100 people who were flying out on Thanksgiving Day 2021, there were 177 people flying out on the Sunday after. The smarter, cheaper Thanksgiving weekend itinerary Beyond crowds, expect to pay big this year. The average round-trip domestic airfare for trips beginning between Nov. 20 and Nov. 24, 2022, is $350, according to travel booking app Hopper. That figure is 43% higher compared to flights taken during the same weekdays last year, and it’s 22% higher than 2019 prices. However, around that time frame, prices can swing wildly: The average domestic airfare for round-trip flights returning Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, are $528 — a 51% increase above the average. If you work a standard Monday-Friday workweek, with two days off for the holiday, then leaving Wednesday after work and flying home Sunday night might make sense to eliminate time off work. That’s the schedule most people follow, and if you join in then you’ll pay — both in terms of literal price but also airport crowds. But if you can be a bit flexible, then avoid the Wednesday-Sunday itinerary and try these travel days instead. Travel on Thanksgiving Day Across travel days for the week before and after Thanksgiving, the holiday itself was the lowest-traffic day every year over the past three years. Book the first flight out for the day — a practice NerdWallet recommends anyway to reduce your odds of a flight delay — and you might even land in time for Thanksgiving dinner. And according to flight data from travel search engine Expedia, traveling on Thanksgiving Day is also the cheapest day to fly within that period. Stay longer If you don’t mind extending your trip, the Wednesday after Thanksgiving was the second-least busy day in 2021 and 2020. Especially if you have the option of remote work, you might be able to avoid taking vacation days, despite the longer trip. Even if you can’t stay through Wednesday, you’ll still save by flying out on Monday versus the Sunday after Thanksgiving. According to Hopper, domestic airfares average 17% cheaper to fly out on Cyber Monday versus flying out one day earlier. It can also make sense to get your Thanksgiving celebrations started early by flying out well ahead of the day before. Expedia data found that average ticket prices for departures on the Monday before Thanksgiving are 15% cheaper than Wednesday departures. And in some cities, the difference is even starker. For example, average airfares for domestic flights to Las Vegas dropped from $550 for Wednesday arrivals to just $380 for arrival days earlier in the week, amounting to roughly 31% in savings. Fly on Black Friday If you must travel during the weekend, consider having Thanksgiving dinner at your own home and then flying somewhere on Black Friday, which is the third-least crowded day to fly on average. Hopper’s 2022 Holiday Travel Outlook said Black Friday fares average $175 less than fares for the weekend days after. Consider it a great way to not only avoid airport crowds, but also retail crowds — as you won’t be out shopping. The standard rules around the best (and worst) days to fly don’t necessarily apply. Coupling that with conventional wisdom around saving money on flights, flying for Thanksgiving might not be as painful a proposition as you once thought.
