MITCHELL — Below is the latest South Dakota Prep Media volleyball poll, issued for the week of Oct. 10, 2022.
Teams are listed with first-place votes in parentheses, record and points.
1. Sioux Falls O’Gorman, (8), 18-3, 56; 2. Sioux Falls Washington (4), 15-2, 52; 3. Harrisburg, 12-3, 31; 4. Sioux Falls Jefferson, 14-3, 26; 5. Sioux Falls Lincoln, 14-8, 12.
Knights back in front: The back-and-forth moves at the top of Class AA now favor O’Gorman moving to No. 1 in this week’s poll. That occurred despite a 7-1 week for Sioux Falls Washington, which lost to Sioux Falls Lincoln in the Scheels Invitational in Fargo, N.D. in a two-set tournament match. The Knights and Warriors remain in close proximity, with four points and a few first-place votes separating them and the two teams don’t play until Oct. 21 for their only regular-season meeting. The remaining three teams in the poll — Harrisburg, Jefferson and Lincoln — remain in the 3-4-5 position for another week.
Others receiving votes: Huron, 11-3, 3.
1. Sioux Falls Christian (12), 22-4, 60; 2. Dakota Valley, 15-5, 48; 3. Wagner, 21-2, 35; 4. Canton, 15-3, 10; 5. Platte-Geddes, 17-4, 9.
A steady top-5: There were no changes in the Class A top-5 poll, with Sioux Falls Christian, Dakota Valley and Wagner all going undefeated for the week. Canton stayed in its position despite a three-set loss to Sioux Falls Christian and a 3-1 loss to Wagner, with a 3-1 win over a solid Garretson team to remain at No. 4.
Others receiving votes: Elkton-Lake Benton, 19-2, 8; Miller, 21-2, 5; Rapid City Christian, 24-6, 5.
1. Warner (12), 26-2, 60; 2. Chester Area, 19-5, 44; 3. Burke, 20-3, 39; 4. Northwestern, 20-8, 22; 5. Wolsey-Wessington, 20-3, 14.
No changes in Class B: The top-five remains rock solid in Class B for the second consecutive week. The top-four teams are slotted in the top 13 for opponents’ winning percentage to measure strength of schedule. (Wolsey-Wessington is 22nd this week.) Jones County, the last undefeated team in Class B volleyball, received a vote this week in the poll for the first time, despite having a schedule that ranks 63rd out of 72 teams for opponent’s winning percentage.
Others receiving votes: Jones County, 21-0, 1.

German Tourism Industry Leaps Into The Digital Age Hindustan Times
German Tourism Industry Leaps Into The Digital Age – Hindustan Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/german-tourism-industry-leaps-into-the-digital-age-hindustan-times/
In this day and age, planning and booking a holiday on the internet has become the norm. So is trawling social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube for vacation inspiration. As a result, to stay competitive, travel companies and hotel chains must keep up with the digital age and ensure prospective holidaymakers can find and book their offerings online. The German tourism industry, however, has been slow to embrace the digital solutions. When the COVID pandemic hit, however, many were left with no choice but to go digital.
Pandemic kick-starts digitization
When pandemic-related travel restrictions made it difficult to travel abroad in 2020 and 2021, many Germans opted to spend their vacations within Germany. During the warmer months, German beaches were packed with holidaymakers, and many campsites and hotels were booked out for weeks. On top of that, many companies working in the tourist sector began advertising their services online. “The coronavirus pandemic forced and convinced small companies in particular to embrace digitization,” a spokesperson for the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW) tells DW.
(Also Read: China holiday tourist trips fall 18% over the week-long National Day holiday)
Hotels and restaurants introduced a spate of innovations, such as virtual menus, online reservation and booking systems, as well as contact-less check-in options. A 2021 survey by the German Tourism Association (DTV) found that 84% of businesses said the pandemic had spurred digital transformation in the industry.
Tourists visiting Germany’s East Frisian Islands can now, for example, use a special app to check-in and out of hotels, or book restaurant tables. Guests wishing to book and pay for a beach chair along Germany’s popular North Sea or Baltic Sea coast can do so online. And vacationers heading for spa towns can now buy virtual visitors’ cards, entitling them various discounts and free beach access.
While progress has been made in some areas, Germany still lags behinds in others. Take cashless payments, for instance. While card payments are widely accepted in Denmark, Poland and Lithuania, many German businesses still run on cash.
When out and about in rural Germany, you are also likely experience poor phone reception, slow internet, and a dearth of public wifi.
Travelling back in time
Overall, however, Germany’s tourism sector seems to have awoken from its analog slumber and is embracing the digital age. Almost overnight, many business have begun advertising their services online, investing in mobile-first and social media platforms, and using Instagram as a marketing tool. Some are even developing new gadgets and technologies to pull in new clients.
City marketing agencies in Munich, Bamberg and Wolfenbuttel, for instance, now offer virtual tours to attract prospective tourists. The city of Essen, in Germany’s far-west, began running hybrid tours that combine virtual and analog elements in 2021. Visitors don virtual reality goggles, which track their GPS location, showing them what Essen city life was like in the late 19th century.
Other companies offer similar history tours of Cologne. Sign up with TimeRide Go!, and you can experience certain parts of Cologne as they were decades ago thanks to special virtual reality glasses.
Airbnb, the popular accommodation platform, also offers virtual cooking classes, and online-only tours of famous landmarks, such as India’s iconic Taj Mahal palace. Travel agencies are also letting clients explore potential holiday destinations with virtual reality goggles. All this helps attract and retain customers.
Managing visitor flows
Traveling around Germany has become much easier in recent years thanks to new digital technologies. Some are applied to better manage visitor flows and avoid overcrowding of roads, tourist attractions, beaches and so forth.
When masses of German holidaymakers streamed to the North Sea coast in the summer of 2020 and 2021, crowding beaches, authorities found themselves worrying about how to ensure social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
They then tasked a marketing agency with developing a virtual traffic light system indicating how many people are frequenting local beaches at any given time. Laser sensors register the number of beachgoers and vehicles in an area, then translate this information into a simple, color-coded traffic light heuristic accessible online and displayed on local monitors. This way, people at home, and nearby, can pick less frequented beaches to avoid overcrowding.
Challenges remain
Germany’s Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) says some business still, however, have a hard time integrating digital technologies into their existing infrastructure. Two reasons explain this sluggish uptake, according to industry association DTV: A lack of funds and pronounced staff-shortages. The latter has meant that companies lack employees with the necessary expertise to oversee such changes.
That said, not all services could or should be shifted online. The tourist trade is built, after all, on interpersonal encounters, hospitality, brick-and-mortar hotels and restaurants, great food and friendly smiles. After all, this is what holidays are really all about.

People With Schizophrenia Are 2.5 Times More Likely Develop Dementia: Study Bel Marra Health
People With Schizophrenia Are 2.5 Times More Likely Develop Dementia: Study – Bel Marra Health https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/people-with-schizophrenia-are-2-5-times-more-likely-develop-dementia-study-bel-marra-health/
A recent study has found that people with schizophrenia are 2.5 times more likely to develop dementia than those without mental illness. While the correlation between the two conditions has long been known, researchers are still trying to determine the exact cause. The study’s authors say that more research is needed to better understand the link between schizophrenia and dementia and to explore possible ways to prevent or delay the onset of dementia in those with schizophrenia.
However, researchers believe this new study’s outcome may help protect mental health throughout life, which could help prevent dementia. The study highlighted the direct correlation between psychotic disorders and dementia over other mental disorders such as depression or anxiety. It was the first high-quality study to look at a range of psychotic disorders and their associations with dementia risk.
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that is characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and social withdrawal. It is a complex disorder that is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Many people also experience impairments in cognitive and functional skills. Schizophrenia can devastate individual and their families, but there is hope for recovery. With treatment, many people with schizophrenia can lead fulfilling and productive lives.
Researchers pulled together evidence from 11 studies from nine countries on four continents for the study. It included close to 13 million participants in total. They found that across multiple different psychotic disorders, there was 2.5 times higher risk of dementia later in life. The study included those diagnosed with psychotic disorders as young adults and those diagnosed later in life. It was found that those diagnosed with psychotic disorders at a younger age were much more likely to be diagnosed with dementia while still in their 60s.
Researchers were able to make these associations, but it is still unclear if it is because of the mental illness itself or because psychotic disorders increase the likelihood of conditions that may increase the risk of dementia.
Dr. Orgeta said: “People with psychotic disorders are more likely to have other health conditions such as cardiovascular disease or obesity, which can increase the risk of dementia, while they are also more likely to have a poor diet, smoke or use drugs, which may harm their health in ways that could increase their likelihood of developing dementia.”
Enhancing Cognitive Function
While some degree of cognitive decline is nearly inevitable as we age, this study shows how those with certain psychotic disorders may be at a higher risk of brain health problems. This can affect memory, concentration, and overall brain function.
The Smart Pill can help to enhance cognitive function and memory through 9 ingredients that help to support, nourish, and maximize brain health. These include ginkgo biloba, huperzine A, bacopa extract, rosemary extract, and a B vitamin complex. The formulation of these ingredients is an excellent way to help fight free radicals, boost circulation, and provide nutritional support to assist with cognitive skills.
Hetrick Is Still Chasing His Dreams | News Sports Jobs Evening Observer
Hetrick Is Still Chasing His Dreams | News, Sports, Jobs – Evening Observer https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hetrick-is-still-chasing-his-dreams-news-sports-jobs-evening-observer/
Ryan Hetrick
Ryan Hetrick admits that he hasn’t always been a big Twitter user, but a post he made late last month caught my eye.
“Why not give life everything you have?” he tweeted. “Why not get obsessed over an idea, over a technology, over something that will change the world?”
Five days later, the area native offered this:
“After a lot of hard work and faith in our system, I am excited to announce the official launch of @teammercsin. This is our dream, and it’s starting to come true.”
Hetrick has always been a young man with big dreams.
So, I reached out to him to inquire about his latest one.
I’m not about to bet against him.
ı ı ı
Nearly seven years ago, I sat in a conference room at Maple Grove Junior Senior High School where Hetrick announced he would continue his academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. By the time he graduated in 2021, he had earned a degree in engineering management and he had captained the Cadets’ wrestling team, which is only fitting since sports have always been a huge part of his life. In fact, during his high school career, which included time at Southwestern Central School, Hetrick earned 17 letters in cross country, wrestling and track & field.
“I always knew I wanted to do something different,” he said that January afternoon in 2016. “I wanted to do something unique.”
Enter Team Mercsin, which is made up of a group that includes Hetrick, who is now a graduate student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; John Zimmerman, who is a former Army hockey captain from Austin, Texas; and Joshua Park, who is a 2021 West Point graduate from Seattle, Washington. Together, they had attempted to start, but failed, in two previous business opportunities, but they believe they found something earlier this year that has some real potential.
“After talking with some of my professors (at MIT Sloan School of Management) and talking with some former teammates, I thought of a great idea,” Hetrick wrote on Twitter. “With the emergence of Name Image and Likeness in college sports, we could help college athletes monetize.”
So Hetrick and associates “decided to run with it.”
“At the time, we didn’t really know how we were going to help them monetize,” he wrote, “but we were determined to figure it out.”
They appear to be on their way. And Team Mercsin has included Fredonia native Jovany Ruiz-Navarro on its journey. Ruiz-Navarro, a wide receiver on the University at Buffalo football team, is joined by Isaiah Reid, a soccer player from Clemson; Chase Davis, a football player at Alabama; Sophie Housey, a swimmer at Michigan; and Deshun Murrell, a football player at UCLA.
“We started to realize that we could help our athletes monetize through mentorships,” Hetrick wrote on Twitter. “We are now doing something that no one else is doing — connecting college athletes with high school athletes with mentorships. We build our athletes’ websites, conduct funnel building plans, and help them with outreach.”
Hetrick said he connected with Ruiz-Navarro in May. Five months later, Hetrick is convinced that Ruiz-Navarro will have a “big impact” on kids.
“He has continued to have faith,” Hetrick said. “He’s very outgoing on social media, and we said, ‘We’ve got to get him.’
“He’ll be ready to mentor some kids and, hopefully, bring some income in. … He could have a big impact on kids. He’s very likeable, he’s a hard-working guy and he’ll tell them straight-up how to reach their goals.”
ı ı ı
By the end of summer, Hetrick said, Mercsin had to start turning new athletes away. In September, he joined a class at MIT Sloan called New Enterprises, which helps startups grow through a concept of “disciplined entrepreneurship.”
Three classmates were intrigued enough to work with Hetrick in advancing his idea, including two from MIT and one from Harvard University.
“Now things are different,” Hetrick wrote. “We have help from three talented individuals and help from arguably the two best universities in the world. Our professors are committed to us, and we really have a chance now to shake things up. We are going to transform the NIL industry.”
The plan moving forward, according to Hetrick, is to “scale” Mercsin’s group of athletes to 50 with a goal of them making $20,000 per month.
“But, for us, it’s not about the money,” Hetrick writes. “It’s about giving college athletes, who financially struggle, the opportunity to monetize every month from their talents and experiences. It’s about helping young high school athletes with a dream to play in college, who are determined to improve their sport.”
As noted earlier, Hetrick has always been about making dreams become reality, forged initially during his high school days and continued during his time at West Point.
“I just had a belief in what I could do and the people around me,” he said.

A LinkedIn user shared how Augmented Reality might be used in the future to learn new skills, ranging from drumming to surgery.
Augmented Reality is developing a digital landscape where many things hitherto unknown might become possible. Martin Harbech, a LinkedIn user, shared the possibilities of learning using immersive technology. In a full-blown futuristic video, he showed how one might learn to play the drums in the metaverse using Augmented Reality tools. For this purpose, Artificial Intelligence is being developed to understand what a person might be seeing from their own perspective.
In the future, a new skill could be learned simply by putting on AR glasses, the video explains. “Our innovations will unlock new ways of learning,” it adds. The video is a concept design that shows how one could learn drumming using AR, but it could be applied to just about any skill, Harbech said in his post. This extends to things even as complex and significant as surgery.
“A pioneering virtual reality surgical training company, OSSO VR, has already delivered almost 30,000 virtual training sessions… and a UCLA study found that their platform can improve surgical performance by an incredible 230%,” Harbech wrote. Even though the possibilities of immersive technology are currently more or less limited to the gaming landscape, fascinating possibilities lie ahead, he added.
Art created using Artificial Intelligence is already a matter that’s being fiercely debated on social media. While many have opined that such art ushers in new possibilities, many artists have criticised the such artificially created work and questioned its significance.
For instance Amrita Sher-Gil’s three girls, Raja Ravi Varma’s Hamsa Damayanti, Jamini Roy’s Krishna and Yashoda, and other similar artworks have engraved their names in Indian culture and art history in golden letters. Each of their styles remains unique in its own right. However, recently, AI was used by a journalist to create renditions of paintings and images closely resembling what the artist might have made today.
Freelance data journalist Gurman Bhatia revealed the results that she and her husband generated after playing around with Dall-E. In a Twitter thread, Bhatia posted the outcomes of an “AI trying to paint an old woman on a computer in the style of different Indian painters.” The journalist posted seven pictures, belonging to the art styles of Amrita Sher-Gil, M.F. Hussain, Raja Ravi Varma, Rabindranath Tagore, Abanindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, and Francis Newton Souza.

Bitcoin (BTC) And Ethereum (ETH) Are Joined By Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) As Major Profits Are About To Be Made – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/bitcoin-btc-and-ethereum-eth-are-joined-by-snowfallprotocol-io-snw-as-major-profits-are-about-to-be-made-cryptonews/
Disclaimer: The text below is an advertorial article that is not part of Cryptonews.com editorial content.
Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) are two of the biggest cryptocurrencies in the world. They have both seen major price increases over the years, and it looks like that trend is about to continue. But these cryptocurrencies aren’t the only ones making moves in the cryptocurrency world.
Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) is a new token that is set to explode in value in the coming weeks. If you’re looking to make some major profits, then you need to get into (SNW) now!
BUY TOKENS
Why Bitcoin (BTC) Holders Are Set To Make Major Profits
As the number one cryptocurrency in the world, Bitcoin (BTC) is always going to be in the spotlight. And Bitcoin (BTC) holders are about to get a major windfall thanks to Snowfall Protocol (SNW), which we will explain later on in this article. Bitcoin (BTC) has been adopted as a legal tender in nation-states. This means that Bitcoin (BTC) can now be used to pay taxes, fees, and other charges.
In addition, as more and more businesses start to accept this monetary system, the value of Bitcoin (BTC) will continue to rise. It’s only a matter of time before Bitcoin (BTC) becomes the global currency.
Why Ethereum (ETH) Holders Are Set To Make Major Profits
When it comes to smart contract applications, Ethereum (ETH) is the clear leader. Ethereum (ETH) has been used to create some of the most popular decentralized applications (DApps) in the world. And as more people start to use these DApps, the demand for Ethereum (ETH) will continue to rise.
Ethereum (ETH) holders are set to make massive gains as the price of this crypto continues to provide use cases within the blockchain industry. After the recent merger, continued progress seems like the most likely outcome and as more and more people become familiar with blockchain capabilities, this cryptocurrency will be in demand, which will help to increase the price per coin.
Why Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) Holders Are Set To Make Major Profits
Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) is not as well known as the other two cryptocurrencies mentioned in this article, however, it is quickly gaining popularity in the cryptocurrency world.
Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) is a new token that is based on multi-chain capabilities which means digital assets such as stablecoins, NFTs, and cryptocurrencies can be effortlessly swapped across different blockchains. This makes Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) a very versatile token and one that is set to explode in value in the coming weeks.
If you’re looking for the highest profit potential, Snowfallprotocol.io’s (SNW) token is set to lead the way compared to Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC) because as a relatively newer innovation within the blockchain industry, it has not reached its full potential value yet.
Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have both seen price increases of over 100% in the past few years, and Snowfallprotocol.io’s (SNW) token is set to follow suit with even bigger gains.
So if you’re looking to make some major profits from cryptocurrency, then you need to get into Snowfallprotocol.io (SNW) now. The other two cryptocurrencies are considered blue chip investments, but Snowfallprotocol.io’s (SNW) token is the true dark horse that is set to take the crypto world by storm. BBC News
Russia has been widely condemned after bombarding cities across Ukraine, including launching missile strikes on the centre of Kyiv for the first time.
The US said the “brutal” attacks had hit non-military targets, including a university and children’s playground, and promised further military aid.
United Nations chief Antonio Guterres said he was “deeply shocked”.
Vladimir Putin said the attacks were retaliation for Saturday’s explosion on a key bridge linking Russia to Crimea.
Ukraine says 83 missiles were launched, of which more than 43 were shot down.
In a defiant video, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that “Ukraine cannot be intimidated. It can only be more united.”
The deadly barrage included strikes on the cities of Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, and were some of the worst Ukraine has seen for months.
At least 14 people were killed and scores more were injured, officials said.
Several regions were left without electricity and water after missiles hit energy infrastructure.
Residents in the capital Kyiv said Russia appeared to be targeting civilian areas which were busy with Monday morning commuters, including a children’s playground, a university and the popular Taras Shevchenko park.

Mr Guterres described the strikes as “another unacceptable escalation of the war” for which civilians were paying the highest price.
The EU said a war crime had been committed, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia stood for “terror and brutality”.
US President Joe Biden was one of many foreign leaders to speak with President Zelensky, and he “pledged to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defence systems”, the White House said.
Mr Biden said the attacks demonstrated “the utter brutality” of Putin’s “illegal war”.
After the phone call, President Zelensky vowed to strengthen Ukraine’s armed forces and “make the battlefield even more painful for the enemy”.
China and India, which have not condemned the war, called for a de-escalation.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the body, said his family had been in a residential area in Ukraine when it was attacked by the latest Russian missiles and they were unable to go to a bomb shelter.
He said Russia had already killed some of his relatives, calling it “a terrorist state” that must be deterred in the strongest possible ways to prevent further atrocities. He added that Moscow’s delegation to the UN left “a trail of blood” whenever it entered the General Assembly hall.
The General Assembly is holding an emergency meeting following Russia’s latest attacks. Although the session was convened because of the Kremlin’s annexation of four partly-occupied Ukrainian regions following sham referendums, it has been overshadowed by Monday’s attacks.

Putin said the attacks were retaliation for Saturday’s explosion on a key bridge linking Russia to Crimea
Russian missiles began hitting targets across Ukraine around the morning rush hour on Monday, in the most widespread bombardment of the war.
Mr Putin warned he was ready to authorise more “severe” attacks, while deputy head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that “the first episode has been played. There will be others”.
Meanwhile, Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko – a close ally of Mr Putin – has agreed to deploy his forces to link up with Russian soldiers at Belarus’ border with Ukraine in response to what he said was a threat to his country from Kyiv.
“We need to figure out what else needs to be done to strengthen the security of our state, given the rapidly changing environment,” he said according to comments carried in the state-run Belta news agency.
Mr Lukashenko, who held a one-on-one meeting with President Putin in St Petersburg, said he had been informed through unofficial channels of a “Crimean Bridge 2” being planned against Belarus, a reference to Saturday’s explosion on a key bridge linking Russia with Crimea.
Without providing any evidence, he said: “Ukraine is not just contemplating, but planning strikes on the territory of Belarus,” adding that Kyiv was being “pushed by their patrons to unleash a war against Belarus” and Russia at the same time.
“We saw it, we knew it, we created battalion tactical groups, we practiced the defence of the southern border, which we are doing now,” he said.
Mr Lukashenko has become increasingly reliant on Russia for economic, political and military support in recent years, and Russian forces used Belarus as a base when it began its invasion of Ukraine in February.
Epic Games Says Google Stopped Developers From Making App Stores The Indian Express
Epic Games Says Google Stopped Developers From Making App Stores – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/epic-games-says-google-stopped-developers-from-making-app-stores-the-indian-express/
Not long ago, Fortnite developer Epic Games was fighting a legal battle against Apple for anti-competitive behaviour. Now the company is gearing up for a lawsuit against Google, stating that the latter paid off developers and prevented them from developing alternate app stores.
The charges revolve around Google’s Project Hug, which was later renamed to ‘Apps and Games Velocity program’. In case you are unaware, Google has allegedly spent millions of dollars to keep some Android developers on the Play Store. Epic Games filed the complaint last year.
Epic Games’ motion states that “some of these agreements were intended to, and did, stop developers from launching competing app stores”, suggesting Google had violated the United States’ primary antitrust law known as the Sherman Act.
In a recent report by Engadget, Google said that they would oppose the motion with a company spokesperson saying ‘Epic and Match are adding more inaccurate claims to their failing lawsuits and we’re looking forward to setting the record straight in court.’
The Google spokesperson went on to say that the program that Epic Games is fighting against gives Android developers incentives and users early access to Google Play users whenever they launch new content, adding that Android users already have access to alternate app stores.
But Google is already under flak from the United States Department of Justice and a group made up of more than 36 states over its store fees. It should be noted that both Google and Apple have said that their rules are completely fair and that they are adhering to standard industry practices.
Some lawmakers in Washington D.C. are also studying and debating a bunch of new anti-trust laws which might force big tech companies to redefine how they operate and do business.

No COVID Deaths Reported In Tri-Cities This Past Week – The Seattle Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/no-covid-deaths-reported-in-tri-cities-this-past-week-the-seattle-times/
Oct. 10, 2022 at 3:03 pm Updated Oct. 10, 2022 at 3:03 pm
No deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the Tri-Cities area this past week for the first time in 11 weeks.
Other data showing the presence of COVID in the area was also encouraging.
The Benton Franklin Health District reported the concentration of the coronavirus in samples of untreated wastewater from Richland, Kennewick, Pasco and West Richland fell to the lowest measured since May.
The new case rate for the two counties reported on Thursday was 84 new confirmed cases per 100,000 residents in one week.
That is down from a new case rate of 114 a month ago.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rated every county in Washington as having a “low” COVID community level.
The CDC bases its COVID community level ratings not only on new case rates, but also hospital beds used by patients with COVID and hospital admissions for people with the disease.
The number of newly hospitalized patients for COVID treatment in the Tri-Cities and Prosser hospitals combined has dropped to 24 in the most recent weekly report from 30 a month ago.
However, public health officials remain concerned that COVID cases could start to increase this fall and winter, just as other respiratory illnesses such as colds and flu do in colder months.
In recent months, 11 or 12 COVID deaths in the Tri-Cities area have been reported each month.
But many deaths due to complications of COVID could be prevented, say public health officials.
“We are seeing really good data to say that people who are vaccinated against COVID are so much less likely to die from it,” said Heather Hill, infectious disease supervisor for the Benton Franklin Health District, speaking this week on the Kadlec on Call podcast. “That is a message that we wish people would take to heart.”
Getting vaccinated, including the new COVID omicron booster shot, is particularly important for older residents and for those with underlying health conditions to help prevent their hospitalization or death, according to public health officials.
Don’t put it off, Hill said.
Since the start of the pandemic, 727 Tri-Cities area residents have died, including 508 residents of Benton County and 219 residents of Franklin County.

Worlds Coolest Neighborhood For 2022 Named By Time Out CNN
‘World’s Coolest’ Neighborhood For 2022 Named By Time Out – CNN https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/worlds-coolest-neighborhood-for-2022-named-by-time-out-cnn/
(CNN) — It’s one of the best parts about a vacation — that moment when you discover the side of the city that’s clearly more popular with locals than tourists.
Maybe it’s the off-the-beaten-track cafe with the best coffee you’ve ever tasted, the underground bar that’s not signposted on the street above, or the restaurant dishing up mouthwatering local delicacies you’ve never heard of.
To help you discover more hidden gems on your next city break, global media brand Time Out has released its annual list of the worlds coolest neighborhoods.
Topping the 2022 round-up is buzzy Colonia Americana, located in the city of Guadalajara in western Mexico. Time Out says Colonia Americana’s eclectic mix of historic Art Deco mansions and warehouse-based music venues clinched the deal.
“Guadalajara is just emerging as a must-visit — and Colonia Americana is the place to be right now,” said Time Out Travel Editor James Manning in a statement. “It’s home to a boundary-pushing creative community, a growing number of amazing places to eat, and some of the best nightlife in the western hemisphere. And the street life is unbeatable.”
Time Out’s list is the result of an extensive survey in which thousands of people from across the globe were quizzed on their favorite spots in their city. Time Out editors also weighed in with their local expertise with the aim of creating the ultimate guide, spotlighting 51 of the coolest neighborhoods in the world. The top 20 are “simply put, incredible places to be right now,” says Time Out.
Cais do Sodré in Lisbon is home to this Instagrammable “pink street.”

Eclectic neighborhoods
Hot on the heels of Colonia Americana is Lisbon’s riverside Cais do Sodré, which took the number two spot on the list. Long famed for its vibrant nightlife, the Portuguese neighborhood is now making a name for itself as a foodie hotspot.
“This is the neighborhood where Lisbon’s most promising young chefs are opening new restaurants,” says Time Out, namechecking Quiosque de São Paul and Tricky’s as top spots for drinking and dining.
Third on the 2022 round-up is Wat Bo Village, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. According to Time Out, the area surrounding the spectacular Wat Bo Pagoda has had a “serious glow-up” in the past year. Boutique hotels Viroth’s and Treeline Urban Resort are listed as highlights, alongside restaurant Tevy’s Place, which serves up delicious organic meals and also works as a social enterprise empowering local women.
The highest rated American neighborhood came in at number four — New York City’s Ridgewood. Time Out says this Queens-located area’s balance of new, upcoming bars and restaurants, alongside institutions like pastry shop Rudy’s Bakery — which opened in 1934 — that earned it a spot on the 2022 list.
Meanwhile Mile End in Montreal, Canada rounds out Time Out’s top five, described as a “walkable nook” hosting “some of the city’s best restaurants, independent bookstores, flower shops, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers.”
Dave Calhoun, Time Out’s chief content officer North America & UK, said the goal of the annual list was to spotlight areas that aren’t “homogenized, corporate destinations” but which instead “have an independent and welcoming vibe.”
“You may be able to walk across them in half an hour or less but they are packed with enough experiences to spend days exploring,” he said.

IT giant TCS beats the expectations with stellar Q2 numbers. The largest IT services exporter on Monday reported an 8.4 per cent growth in its September quarter net profit at Rs 10,431 crore, crimped by a dent on margins. The Tata group company, however, said the operating environment is “challenging” and warrants “vigilance”, even though the headwinds posed by factors like recession in its biggest market US, rising inflation around the world and currency volatilities are yet to materialise into its order pipeline. Its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Rajesh Gopinathan said it is difficult to say if the company will be completely insulated from the events as they unfold, and made it clear that it will try to minimise the risks as much as possible. The reporting quarter saw an 18 per cent jump in revenues to Rs 55,309 crore as against Rs 46,867 crore in the year-ago period, but it was a 1.60 percentage points narrowing in the operating margin to 24 per cent which crimped the profit growth.
From world of corporate, here’s latest on the economic front. The government is planning to launch 7-8 production-linked incentive schemes in the next round soon in a bid to further expand the coverage across critical manufacturing sectors, stimulate economic growth and spur job creation, official sources said. The new PLI schemes will cover segments, including textiles, electronic components, furniture, toys and leather, said the sources. Tens of thousands of crores would be extended as incentives. The government intends to make fresh budgetary allocation for the schemes, apart from using savings from the earlier PLI schemes. The move follows ‘good response’ to the 14 such schemes, which have been announced since 2020 and are estimated to lead to an incremental manufacturing of more than $500 billion over five years.
Now some banking news. To make the strategic disinvestment of IDBI Bank hassle-free, the government may give an assurance to the potential buyer in the share purchase agreement, that the latter will have a free hand in running the bank. On October 7, the Centre invited expressions of interest for IDBI Bank and offered to sell a total of 60.72% stake in the bank, including 30.48% held by the government and 30.24% by LIC, along with the transfer of management control. Post the transaction, the government and LIC together will have a 34% residual stake in the lender. According to the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the voting right of a shareholder or shareholders acting in concert in a bank can’t exceed 26%, even if they own more than 26%. In effect, the acquirer of IDBI Bank with 60.72% stake will have a voting right of 26% only, the same as the government and LIC.
Moving on. Elon Musk’s SpaceX-owned satellite internet service provider Starlink has started talks with the department of telecommunications to apply for a licence to offer satellite-based communication services in the country. To provide satellite-based communication services, companies need to get Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite licence from the government. Sources said that Starlink is likely to apply for the same within a month. While the licence can be granted to the company by the DoT, the allocation of spectrum is likely to be done only once the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the government decide whether the airwaves need to be auctioned or allocated administratively. Starlink had started taking bookings for its satellite-based services from Indian customers a year ago but was directed by the government to call off such bookings.
In other news, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will reach Washington today to attend an important meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The finance minister during her visit will also hold a bilateral meeting with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. Sitharaman upon her arrival will participate in a fireside chat on “India’s Economic Prospects and Role in the World Economy” at the prestigious Brookings Institute think-tank and soon after hold a bilateral meeting with Yellen at the Department of Treasury.
And finally, here’s look at today’s stock market buzz. Frontline indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 are likely to witness a muted start, hinted SGX Nifty. Nifty futures were trading 11.5 pts higher at 17,239.5 on the Singapore Exchange ahead of today’s session, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for a flat start. Shares in Asia were mixed on Tuesday, while US stocks ended in red overnight. Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped around 2%, and South Korea’s Kospi fell 2.26%. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dipped 0.36%. On Wall Street, the Nasdaq Composite closed at its lowest since July 2020, down 1.04%, dragged lower by a slump in semiconductor stocks. The S&P 500 also slipped 0.75%.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — For nearly two decades the Pittsburgh Steelers seemed immune to the realities of the NFL.
Seasons came, seasons went. And the Steelers stayed relevant. In the mix. A factor even as the fortunes of their AFC North rivals — Baltimore chief among them — and the vast majority of the rest of the league rose and fell and rose again, just the way it’s supposed to work under the salary cap.
During coach Mike Tomlin’s first 15 years on the job, Pittsburgh played exactly one game in which it was eliminated from playoff contention.
One. One out of 241. One.
It’s a figure that seems all but certain to climb by several multiples in 2022 after the Steelers fell to 1-4 during an embarrassing 38-3 loss to Buffalo on Sunday.
“We just got smashed today,” Tomlin said shortly after the franchise’s worst setback in 33 years, a dismantling that exposed a staggering gap in talented depth between the two teams.
The Bills hardly missed a beat despite missing tight end Dawson Knox and safety Jordan Poyer, among others. Buffalo rookies were making plays all over the field. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir caught the first five passes of his career. Running back James Cook ran by a group that included linebackers Jamir Jones and Ryan Anderson — both of whom were on the practice squad at the start of the season — to the end zone for his first score.
The Steelers have made signing their best players (linebacker T.J. Watt, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, WR Diontae Johnson) to lucrative extensions a priority, moves that require them to find good players on the cheap.
It hasn’t happened.
The same team that found gems in players that became roster fixtures such as Antonio Brown (sixth round), linebacker Vince Williams (sixth round) and Ramon Foster (undrafted) and Alejandro Villanueva (free-agent signing) has swung and missed far more often than not in recent years. The decision to use high picks on offensive skill position players such as running back Najee Harris and wide receiver Chase Claypool rather than fortify the trenches in an effort to prop open the championship window under Ben Roethlisberger appears ill-advised.
Roethlisberger isn’t around anymore to cover up the warts on offense. Watt is out indefinitely with a left pectoral injury. Fitzpatrick is banged up. And the defense is a mess in their absence.
The Steelers have been 1-4 before on Tomlin’s watch, pulling themselves out of a massive hole to nearly reach the postseason in 2013.
They’ve gotten blown out before on Tomlin’s watch. Last year alone they followed 31 and 26- point losses with victories the following week.
Yet the resiliency that’s been the trademark of Tomlin-coached teams seems far away at the moment.
Not with the offense 30th in the league in scoring. Not with practice squad players filling in for an injury-ravaged defense. Not with the very small margin for error the Steelers needed to work within as they began the post-Roethlisberger era — don’t turn the ball over and hope the defense reverts to its 2020 version — obliterated well before Halloween.
Tomlin promised “to turn over whatever stone to change the outcomes of games like what transpired today.”
The stones they’ve turned over on the roster have yet to make a significant positive impact. Their short-term options are basically limited to raiding other team’s practice squads or signing guys off the street.
The chance at real solutions likely won’t come until free agency and the 2023 draft.
There are 12 more games remaining in 2022, a dozen more up-close looks at the harsh realities of a business model the Steelers are discovering they are no longer immune to.
WHAT’S WORKING
The decision to turn to rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett looks like the right move. Pickett appeared to be two things against the Bills: fearless and decisive, qualities Mitch Trubisky failed to show with any sort of consistency during his 3 1/2 games at the helm.
WHAT NEEDS HELP
Everything else pretty much. Tomlin wasn’t lying when he said it’s all interconnected. Yet the best way to take some of the pressure off a beat-up and underperforming defense is by scoring more.
The Steelers have six offensive touchdowns through five games. Cleveland running back Nick Chubb has seven.
STOCK UP
Cam Heyward. The defensive end’s No. 97 was in relentless pursuit of the ball on Sunday regardless of the circumstances or who was around him, a testament to his professionalism and the example he is trying to set.
STOCK DOWN
Harris. Maybe it’s the foot injury he suffered during training camp. Maybe it’s the lack of push by the offensive line in front of him. Maybe it’s the scheme. Whatever it is, the second-year running back has been unable to get it going. He is averaging a paltry 3.2 yards per carry through five games and has looked like the lesser of the two options next to backup Jaylen Warren.
KEY NUMBER
Zero — the number of touchdown receptions by Pittsburgh wide receivers in mid-October.
INJURIES
Tight end Pat Freiermuth sustained a concussion in the third quarter that appeared to leave him briefly unconscious on the field.
It’s his third concussion in less than two seasons, a troubling trend for a promising young player. … DT Larry Ogunjobi left with a back injury and did not return and the secondary remains a shambles, with Levi Wallace (concussion) and Cam Sutton (hamstring) joining the injury list.
NEXT STEPS
Find some semblance of pride while trying to do something that’s been particularly problematic over the years: beat Tom Brady. The Tampa Bay QB is 9-3 against Pittsburgh in his career, with 29 touchdowns against five interceptions.

Hong Kong University Launches Metaverse Postgraduate Programme – NFTgators https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hong-kong-university-launches-metaverse-postgraduate-programme-nftgators/
Quick take:
Hong Kong Polytechnic University has launched a metaverse postgraduate programme.
The one-year Master of Science in Metaverse Technology programme kicks off next September.
The programme aims to educate students about the nature of metaverses and the fundamental technology for building metaverses.
Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has launched the city’s first-ever metaverse postgraduate programme. The “Master of Science in Metaverse Technology” programme is set to begin September 2023, according to the PolyU website.
According to the course outline, the programme aims to educate students about the nature of metaverses and the fundamental technology for building metaverses.
The programme will be offered under the engineering faculty’s computing department and will run for a period of 12 months. Students will be learning among other subjects, “pursue careers in start-ups and big players in the metaverse industry” PolyU wrote on its website.
The metaverse is generally described as a 3D virtual space where people can interact with each other through gaming, virtual concerts and other experiential events. The burgeoning industry has become one of the most trending topics over the past 12 months, following the rebranding of Facebook to Meta Platforms.
Recent studies have estimated the metaverse could be worth trillions of dollars by the year 2030. This has initiated an insatiable demand from the mainstream with leading technology companies looking to pounce on the opportunity.
Hong Kong PolyU is not the first educational institution to launch a metaverse programme. Universities in the city have ramped up their programmes in a bid to prevent students from moving overseas.
In September, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced the Web3 Carnival, a series of online discussions set to take place in November about the sector.
Though no clear definition yet, web3 enthusiasts describe it as the next generation of the internet, built on the decentralised ledger technology to democratise the web. Its popularity is driven by the rapid adoption of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and decentralised apps.
In February, Ankara University became Turkey’s first higher education institution to offer a course on NFTs. In July, the University of Tokyo launched study programs in the metaverse under the university’s engineering department.
Earlier last month, the University of Houston launched its metaverse campaign with AI innovation Consortium, Nvidia and TechnipFMC. It is part of the university’s attempts to play a part in the industrial metaverse. Later in the month, Draper University and CEEK VR teamed up to launch a metaverse and VR hacker house.

Many U.S. Drivers Treat Partially Automated Cars As Self-Driving Study Reuters
Many U.S. Drivers Treat Partially Automated Cars As Self-Driving – Study – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/many-u-s-drivers-treat-partially-automated-cars-as-self-driving-study-reuters/
WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) – Drivers using advanced driver assistance systems like Tesla (TSLA.O) Autopilot or General Motors (GM.N) Super Cruise often treat their vehicles as fully self-driving despite warnings, a new study has found.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry funded group that prods automakers to make safer vehicles, said on Tuesday a survey found regular users of Super Cruise, Nissan/Infiniti (7201.T) ProPILOT Assist and Tesla Autopilot “said they were more likely to perform non-driving-related activities like eating or texting while using their partial automation systems than while driving unassisted.”
The IIHS study of 600 active users found 53% of Super Cruise, 42% of Autopilot and 12% of ProPILOT Assist owners “said that they were comfortable treating their vehicles as fully self-driving.”
Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com
About 40% of users of Autopilot and Super Cruise – two systems with lockout features for failing to pay attention – reported systems had at some point switched off while they were driving and would not reactivate.
“The big-picture message here is that the early adopters of these systems still have a poor understanding of the
technology’s limits,” said IIHS President David Harkey.
The study comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is scrutinizing Autopilot crashes.
Since 2016, the NHTSA has opened 37 special investigations involving 18 deaths in crashes involving Tesla vehicles and where systems like Autopilot were suspected of use.
Tesla did not respond to requests for comment. Tesla says Autopilot does not make vehicles autonomous and is intended for use with a fully attentive driver who is prepared to take over.
GM, which in August said owners could use Super Cruise on 400,000 miles (643,740 km) of North American roads and plans to offer Super Cruise on 22 models by the end of 2023, did not immediately comment.
IIHS said advertisements for Super Cruise focus on hands-free capabilities while Autopilot evokes the name used in passenger airplanes and “implies Tesla’s system is more capable than it really is.” IIHS in contrast noted ProPILOT Assist “suggests that it’s an assistance feature, rather than a replacement for the driver.”
NHTSA and automakers say none of the systems make vehicles autonomous.
Nissan said its name “is clearly communicating ProPILOT Assist as a system to aid the driver, and it requires hands-on operation. The driver maintains control of the vehicle at all times.”

Asian Shares Fall As Technology Shares Pull Benchmarks Lower – KOKI FOX 23 TULSA https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/asian-shares-fall-as-technology-shares-pull-benchmarks-lower-koki-fox-23-tulsa/
TOKYO — (AP) — Asian shares were mostly lower on Tuesday as losses in technology-related shares weighed on global benchmarks.
Taiwan dropped 4% after reopening from a holiday in the first trading session since the U.S. imposed new limits on exports of semiconductors and chip-making equipment to China. TMSC, the world’s biggest chipmaker, plunged 7.8%.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 2.5% in morning trading to 26,439.97. South Korea’s Kospi lost 2.2% to 2,184.87. Both markets also were reopening after holidays on Monday.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 1.4% to 16,984.41.
The Shanghai Composite gained 0.4% to 2,986.11, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 edged 0.1% higher to 6,671.90.
“Japan and South Korean markets are catching up to previous global market losses, with their exposure to the tech sector spurring a greater extent of the sell-off as mirrored in Wall Street,” said Yeap Jun Rong, a market strategist at IG in Singapore.
In a bit of encouraging news, Japan reopened to generally unrestricted tourism on Tuesday after more than two years of COVID-19 restrictions. Pent-up travel spending could help lift the world’s third largest economy as it grapples with slowing global growth and inflation.
But technology stocks have taken a hit from the announcement of tighter export controls on semiconductors and chip manufacturing equipment. The restrictions aim to limit China’s ability to get advanced computing chips, develop and maintain supercomputers, and make advanced semiconductors.
In China, technology shares were hit by renewed selling after steep losses on Monday. Chip equipment maker Naura Technology sank 10% and Hwatsing Technology dropped 9.6%.
On Wall Street, Qualcomm Inc. lost 5.2% and Broadcom Inc. dropped 5%. Applied Materials shed 4.1% while Lam Research Corp. declined 6.4%.
The benchmark S&P 500 fell 0.7%, closing at 3,612.39 and extending its losing streak to a fourth day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.3% to 29,202.88 and the Nasdaq composite fell 1% to 10,542.10. The Russell 2000 fell 0.6% to 1,691.92.
U.S. bond trading was closed.
Wall Street has been roiled by worries over stubbornly hot inflation and the Federal Reserve’s plan to tame high prices by raising interest rates. The goal is to slow economic growth and cool both borrowing and spending to get inflation under control, but the plan risks sending the economy into a recession.
Investors will potentially get a more detailed picture of the Fed’s thinking on Wednesday when the central bank releases minutes from its latest policy meeting. That’s when the Fed made another extra-big interest rate increase of three-quarters of a percentage point.
“Nobody’s arguing about whether inflation is falling, it’s simply the slope of the slide,” said David Kelly, chief global strategist at JPMorgan Funds. “The inflation battle is being won and the problem is the recession battle may be getting lost unnecessarily.”
Wall Street will also get important updates on inflation and more insight into how that is impacting retail sales. The closely watched report on consumer prices will be released on Thursday and a report on retail sales is due Friday.
The latest sales update could confirm that consumers are increasingly stretched financially, or at least pulling back on spending. That could send a signal to the Fed, Kelly said.
“I’m just hoping the Fed is watching these indicators,” he said. “It should tell them they’re much closer to both beating inflation and killing the economy than they think they are.”
This week brings the latest round of corporate earnings reports, which could provide a clearer picture of how high prices are impacting revenue and profits and what’s expected for the rest of the year and even into 2023.
In energy trading, benchmark U.S. crude fell 38 cents to $90.75 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. U.S. crude oil dropped 1.6% Monday. Brent crude, the international standard, lost 27 cents to $95.92 a barrel.
In currency trading, the U.S. dollar slipped to 145.73 Japanese yen from 145.75 yen. The euro cost 96.84 cents, down from 97.04 cents.

Small Businesses Still Waiting For Sports Betting Study On Gaming Kiosks In Bars Western Massachusetts News
Small Businesses Still Waiting For Sports Betting Study On Gaming Kiosks In Bars – Western Massachusetts News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/small-businesses-still-waiting-for-sports-betting-study-on-gaming-kiosks-in-bars-western-massachusetts-news/
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – After much anticipation, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has set a timeline for the launch of sports betting. This comes after sports betting became officially legalized by lawmakers back in August.
Fans who want to place legal sports bets in Massachusetts will have to wait until 2023.
Western Mass News were out getting local reactions to this latest timeline for the launch of sports betting in the Bay State.
“The most important thing to all the bars and restaurants is the commission following through with their obligation to do a study before the end of the year to see the viability of gaming kiosks in bars and restaurants,” said Bill Stetson, owner of Rumbleseat Bar & Grille in Chicopee.
Stetson has spent the past year lobbying state legislators, asking for bars and restaurants to be included in the sports betting bill that was signed into law in August.
“Everybody asks if we are getting gaming kiosks,” Stetson told us. “Sometimes, the customers are under the false impression that the gaming kiosks were coming to bars and restaurants, so I have to explain to them, not yet, we’re still waiting for the study that the state is obligated to do, and I really want to see the results of that.”
Last week, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission held a marathon discussion where they discussed and eventually approved the official launch of sports betting, breaking up the licenses into three categories.
Here is the breakdown:
A Category 1 license allows sports betting at places such as casinos which is expected to launch by late January 2023.
A Category 2 license is for in-person wagering at certain horse and greyhound racing sites.
Mobile sports betting, which falls under a Category 3 license, is expected to be in place by early March of 2023.
However, conditions were applied to this timeline following much debate by commissioners over the pacing of the sports betting launch.
“If we were to propose a date, starting just for discussion purposes only and as part of the motion, we could add language that said something like, ‘Understanding that should there be staff or public comment issue brought up that would not allow for launch on this date,’ that the commission would need to discuss and take further action,” said Commissioner Bradford Hill.
State Representative Carlos González told Western Mass News what the status is of that survey, which examines how sports betting could possibly work for small businesses such as Rumbleseat Bar & Grille.
“There was never a timeline, however we hope that this could be done before the month of January,” Representative González said. “Sports betting is a new industry in Massachusetts, and we know that there’s no real timeline. However, we are trying to get over all the regulations necessary to make sure sports betting is active.”
The commission has until the end of the year to complete that study and decide if additional licenses should be granted to small businesses.

Advocates Working To Get Arkansas Registered To Vote Ahead Of Elections – THV11.com KTHV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/advocates-working-to-get-arkansas-registered-to-vote-ahead-of-elections-thv11-com-kthv/
With early voting, just two weeks away Get Loud Arkansas and Arkansas United have been working to make sure every eligible voter is registered ahead of the election.
ARKANSAS, USA — Early voting is right around the corner, and according to the secretary of state’s office, as of Wednesday, October 5 about 1.7 million Arkansans are registered to vote.
Though that number may seem like a lot, organizations such as “Get Loud Arkansas” and “Arkansas United” have said it’s not enough.
They are hopeful that their efforts can help that number increase.
“Arkansas is sadly dead last in this country and voter turnout at 54%,” said Joshua Ang Price, the Deputy Director of Arkansas United.
Price explained that the organization has been working to make sure everyone who calls the natural state home can use their voice.
“According to the last census, we’ve got over 250,000, Hispanics and Latinx in the state, and almost 100,000, Asian American Pacific Islanders. So that’s, that’s 10% of the state,” added Price.
Price said they work to make sure language barriers don’t stop anyone from casting their ballot
“We’re not only working with the election commissions to try to recruit those bilingual poll workers, but also we have volunteers that can be available at the polls,” said Price.
He mentioned that he’s seen firsthand how some people may feel discouraged when it comes to voting.
“A lot of immigrants, especially from the AAPI community, they’re coming from a country that maybe was politically unstable, had a lot of election fraud. And you know, maybe their vote really didn’t count,” said Price. “But we were trying to help them understand that here in the United States, you can vote, and your vote is going to be counted and processed, and it’s going to make a difference.”
Arkansas United isn’t the only organization that has made similar efforts.
Get Loud Arkansas was first launched in 2021 with the hopes to encourage more Arkansans to register to vote.
“Your voice will be heard, no matter what your English sounds like, it will still be heard, because everybody’s ballot speaks the same language and that’s a mark on the paper,” said State Senator Joyce Elliott.
Senator Elliott, Executive Director of the organization explained that although they are a new organization, they’ve been actively working to cover as much of the natural state as they can.
“Pulaski county, for example, is one of those that we’ve targeted. The same thing is true in Benton and Washington County, ” added Elliott.
The message that is echoed by every organization, is for Arkansans to register, show up, and most importantly vote.
“Let’s not wait until we’re comfortable, because that might take too long. We do it anyway. We do it for our families. We do it for our kids. We do it for a better country,” said Elliott.
If you’re not registered to vote, the deadline is Tuesday, October 11 and early voting starts on October 23. Election day is November 8.

Chiefs-Raiders Roughing The Passer: Current Former NFL Players React To Shocking Call On Chris Jones CBS Sports
Chiefs-Raiders Roughing The Passer: Current, Former NFL Players React To Shocking Call On Chris Jones – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/chiefs-raiders-roughing-the-passer-current-former-nfl-players-react-to-shocking-call-on-chris-jones-cbs-sports/
Throughout NFL history, there have been some very controversial roughing the passer calls. On Monday night, another one was added to the list of penalties that probably should not have been penalties. In the AFC West matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders, a second-quarter call left fans in the stands booing and people at home, including NFL players, questioning how to properly tackle a quarterback, given the roughing the passer penalties getting called recently.
Let’s first take a look at the play that everyone will be discussing tomorrow, especially if this game ends up being a close one.
Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones broke a tackle and found his way to the Raiders’ Derek Carr, sacking the quarterback and taking the ball from him all in one swift movement. Jones secured the ball as he went down, taking Carr to the ground with him.
The strip sack looked clean to most everyone watching, but the referees made a controversial roughing the passer call that reversed the fumble and gave the Raiders a first down.
Chiefs fans were visibly and audibly upset at the call, booing until the clock hit zero in the first half.
The Raiders went on to score a field goal on the drive to go up 20-7.
Immediately following the call, NFL Twitter shared their opinions, with current and former players giving their thoughts on what they just saw.
NFL Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy acknowledged that the league needs to protect the quarterback, but as many have said, it is taking it too far.
“Terrible” is a word a lot of people have used to describe the call, including the legendary Lawrence Taylor.
Sean Payton also weighed in:
Richard Sherman noted that you cannot brace the fall with two hands when one is holding the football.
Micah Parsons called the league “terrible” for the call.
Former quarterback and current CBS Sports reporter Danny Kanell noted that the NFL Players Association needs to bring up the issue to make a change.
Here are some more reactions from around the NFL:

MediaTek Dimensity 1080 Vs 1050 Vs 920 Chipsets Compared Another Confusing Addition To The MediaTek Line Up Mighty Gadget
MediaTek Dimensity 1080 Vs 1050 Vs 920 Chipsets Compared – Another Confusing Addition To The MediaTek Line Up – Mighty Gadget https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/mediatek-dimensity-1080-vs-1050-vs-920-chipsets-compared-another-confusing-addition-to-the-mediatek-line-up-mighty-gadget/
I love that over the past few years, MediaTek has become a viable alternative to Qualcomm for mid-range and flagship chipsets. In my opinion, the Dimensity 8100 is one of the best chipsets this year, providing a good balance of price, performance and efficiency.
However, MediaTek loves to churn out new iterations of their chipsets, and it can get a bit confusing.
The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is one of those. It is a fractional upgrade to the excellent mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 920, not an upgrade to the MediaTek Dimensity 1050.
In short, the new MediaTek Dimensity 1080 bumps up the frequency of the ARM Cortex-A78 cores from 2.5GHz by just 4% to 2.6GHz.
The chipset is then updated to support 200MP cameras, and the chipset can also do 4K HDR video processing.
That’s it. That’s all the changes.
As for the MediaTek Dimensity 1050, that’s built on the same fabrication process and has exactly the same CPU configuration as the Dimensity 920, but it uses a more modern Mali-G610 MC3 GPU.

Crypto Giant Coinbase Gets Singapore Licence – Reuters https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/crypto-giant-coinbase-gets-singapore-licence-reuters/
SINGAPORE, Oct 11 (Reuters) – Coinbase, the largest crypto exchange in the United States, said it has received approval from Singapore’s central bank to offer payment services in the city-state.
The in-principle approval, which the central bank started giving out to crypto firms last year, means individuals and institutions can use digital payment token services and the firms are regulated by the central bank under its Payment Services Act.
Calling it a “significant milestone”, Coinbase said in a statement that it has been building up its presence in Singapore and currently had nearly 100 employees in the Southeast Asian state, with product engineers forming the largest bulk of hires.

“We see Singapore as a strategic market and a global hub for Web3 innovation,” said Hassan Ahmed, Coinbase’s regional director for Southeast Asia.
About 180 crypto companies applied for a crypto payments licence to the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2020 under a new regime. Singapore has handed out 17 in-principle approvals and licences after an elaborate due diligence process that is still ongoing.
Besides Coinbase, Crypto.com and DBS Vickers – the brokerage run by Singapore’s largest bank DBS (DBSM.SI) – are among those that have received licences.
Singapore’s welcoming approach has helped the financial hub attract digital asset services-related firms from China, India and elsewhere in the last few years, making it a major centre in Asia.
However, there have also been quite a few cases of crypto fall-outs taking place in the city state. Singapore-based crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital began liquidation in June after it was unable to meet hundreds of millions of dollars in obligations.
The hedge fund had taken a hit from the collapse of cryptocurrencies Luna and TerraUSD in May. Both coins were developed by Terraform Labs, which was incorporated in Singapore. Terraform Lab’s founder Do Kwon is currently wanted by the South Korean police.
The chief of the MAS has, however, sought to distance Singapore from these firms and said in July that companies like Three Arrows and Terraform Labs were “so-called Singapore-based” firms that had “little to do” with the city state’s crypto regulations.
Singapore plans to roll out new regulations that will make it more difficult for retail investors to trade cryptocurrencies.
