Scott Snyder Signs New Deal With Amazon & ComiXology For 2023 – Bleeding Cool News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/scott-snyder-signs-new-deal-with-amazon-comixology-for-2023-bleeding-cool-news/ | Spinning out of discussion last night in the New York Comic Con bars is that comic boiok writer Scott Snyder has taken advantage of business meetings held at the show, to sign a new deal with ComiXology Originals for new creator-owned comic books to launch in 2023. In the last couple of years, Scott Snyder has been creating new work with a variety of comic book creators, that has debuted first digitally through ComiXology Originals, heavily promoted by Amazon, and then issued in print through ComiXology’sprint partner Dark Horse Comics. This will be on top of his creator-owned work through Image Comics such as Nocterra and Undiscovered Country, and through IDW, Dark Spaces: Wildfire with Dark Spaces: Good Deeds to follow next year. Here are a look at Scott Snyder’s ComiXology Originals lineup so far. We Have Demons Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Greg Capullo We Have Demons features widescreen action and the kinds of jaw-dropping storytelling twists that have made Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo the bestselling creator duo of the last 25 years. In every folklore throughout history, there’s a struggle between “angels” and “demons” – between beings of goodness and monstrous beings of darkness. But what if this struggle, this war for the soul of humanity, wasn’t rooted in the mystical or supernatural, but in science? Our hero, Lam was named after the first female angel, “Lamassu.” She never really understood her father’s devotion to their small-town Unitarian church. And when he dies under mysterious circumstances, she starts to question everything she thought she knew. One night, a distraught Lam visits her father’s church looking for answers. What she finds there is a monster: a hulking demon named Chopper who claims to have worked with her father and now offers to work with her to solve her father’s murder. We Have Demons is full throttle entertainment by two comic book megastars, featuring action, conspiracies, secret organizations, monsters, mayhem, and a climactic war of good and evil with no less than the fate of the universe hanging in the balance. Clear Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Francis Manapul Clear written by Scott Snyder with art and colors by Francis Manapul—Welcome to a world where people are able to connect to the internet like never before, where a neurological internet connection is transforming reality. Welcome to the world of Clear. A dazzling, sci-fi thrill ride into a strange dystopian future, in Clear, people connect to the internet neurologically and mediate the real world through the lenses of their eyes. Everything can be skinned to fit your preferences. There are custom skins for steampunk, old fashioned Hollywood glamour, and pornographic and fetish fantasies. If you can name it, you can live it. You choose how you see the world and no one knows what you’re seeing. In San Francisco, private detective Sam Dunes is working a case for a wealthy woman, spying on her husband, making sure the man isn’t buying illegal untraceable filters to make his wife look like someone else. Dunes has just finished tangling with the filter dealers when his old partner, tells him about the alleged suicide… of his ex-wife. When Dunes receives a gift from his dead ex-wife in the mail, Sam finds himself pulled into a wild and twisting mystery that stretches from the city’s deadly underworld to the even deadlier heights of the city’s wealthy and powerful elite. Night of the Ghoul Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Francesco Francavilla Scott Snyder and Francesco Francavilla have entertained and terrified comic book fans, now these two modern masters of horror collaborate for the first time ever on Night of The Ghoul, a bloody reimagining of horror monsters that celebrates classic creature features, while creating a contemporary new kind of horror story. Shot in 1936, “Night of the Ghoul” by director T.F. Merritt was meant to sit beside “Frankenstein” and “Dracula” as an instant classic. But the legendary film never made it to the silver screen. A mysterious studio fire destroyed the footage and killed the cast and crew at the wrap-party. No footage was ever recovered…until now. When Forest Inman, a horror film obsessive, stumbles across a forgotten canister of footage, he just might have discovered the remnants of “Night of the Ghoul.” This discovery sends Forest on a dark odyssey to the California desert, where he’s warned by a mysterious old man that the film’s ghoul is far more than a work of fiction: it’s a very real monster who plans to kill him. Night of The Ghoul is a dazzling work of horror, intercutting between the present-day narrative and the story of the lost film (drawn by Francavilla in stunning black and white). Barnstormers Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Tula Lotay Barnstormers written by Scott Snyder with art by Tula Lotay and colors by Tula Lotay and Dee Cunniffe—High flying adventure and romance fuel Barnstormers, a lush and unforgettable story set just after the First World War. It’s 1923 — the barnstorming era, where pilots fresh from the airfields of the Great War made a living taking civilians for joyrides in the sky for a small fee. One such man claims to be Preston Pike, a dashing war hero pilot, who has flown his way across the U.S. Southeast scrounging for customers while fleeing from his own demons. When a telephone operator says that a big crowd will be awaiting him in nearby Barnville, Preston races over. Instead of eager clientele, though, he finds himself crashing a wedding, and the party isn’t exactly thrilled. But when Claire, the would-be-bride, decides to make an early getaway, Preston unexpectedly becomes a Clyde to this vengeful Bonnie. Along the way they bond, confessing their secrets and engaging in a romance for the ages. Will all that change when the Pinkerton agent following close by finally closes in on them? Barnstormers is an intimate portrait of love and war — and a meditation on the dangerous level of trust required in both romance and aviation. Dudley Datson and the Forever Machine Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Jamal Igle Dudley Datson and the Forever Machine written by Scott Snyder with art by Jamal Igle and Juan Castro and colors by Chris Sotomayor—Throughout history, the world’s greatest engineers have tried, and failed, to create the perpetual motion machine – a machine that could open doorways through space-time and other terrifying realities. But what if a perpetual motion machine had been created? A machine this powerful would need to be the world’s most guarded secret. And for as long as it has existed, “the Forever Machine” has been pursued by the Needle’s Eye, a group of the rich, powerful and nefarious who seek to use it to fulfill their own desires… Enter Dudley Datson, a science-loving geek who goes to a school for gifted kids in Brooklyn, NY. His closest friend is his science teacher, Dr. Adara Shae. She’s brilliant and well known around the world, doing a residency at Dudley’s school, and recognizes his promise. She’s also the current protector of the Forever Machine… After the Needle’s Eye catches up to her, a dying Dr. Shae passses the Forever Machine to Dudley. And where the machine goes, its guardian mechanical dog Daedalus follows. Full of gadgets and tricks, able to speak, Daedalus becomes Dudley’s protector as they struggle to keep the Forever Machine away from the Needle’s Eye. Canary Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Daniel Duke Panosian In 1891 a mine collapsed into itself. What was the dark substance found 666 feet underground? Blending modern horror, historical fact and Western lore, Scott Snyder and Dan Panosian have created a uniquely terrifying thriller with Canary. During the final days of the Gold Rush, one mining company in Colorado, pulled up radioactive Uranium, and then the mine then collapsed in on itself. Legends sprung up about the mine being cursed or even haunted. Now the Frontier is closed, the gold and silver mines have dried up. The country is becoming “civilized,” and yet in one stretch of the Rocky Mountains, a terrifying, new kind of violence is suddenly emerging. Random killings. People going mad and murdering neighbors, classmates without real cause. When a schoolboy kills his teacher with a hatchet, a famous federal marshal named Azrael William Holt is called in to investigate the killings. What he–and a brilliant young geologist–uncover is stranger and more horrifying than anything they could have ever imagined. Duck and Cover Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Rafael Albuquerque From the team that brought you Vertigo’s American Vampire comes Duck and Cover, a manga-influenced teen adventure set in the strange post-apocalyptic America… of 1955. When a sudden nuclear exchange obliterates the United States, only the children who hid under their school desks are spared. These teens now find themselves the lone survivors in a strange and wild new ’50’s America. Stranger still, some of them seem to be developing superhuman powers… The kids knew the drill. They practiced it so many times. When the air raid siren goes off, you hide under your desk. But they never expected to live in a world where everyone who didn’t hide under a desk is dead. Now there are no teachers. There are no adults. What are they supposed to do? Why were they spared? Duck and Cover is a riveting sci-fi thriller, chock full of Cold War paranoia, strange mutant lands, and tribes of super powered children. Book of Evil Writer – Scott Snyder Artist – Jock Scott Snyder and Jock—the creative team of the New York Times bestselling blockbuster The Batman Who Laughs—reunite for a young adult horror graphic novel. The Book of Evil tells the story of four young friends growing up in a strange, near future where over 90% of the popula...

Cardano Price Forecast Can ADA Become 2022 Best Performer? Cryptonews
Cardano Price Forecast – Can ADA Become 2022 Best Performer? – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/cardano-price-forecast-can-ada-become-2022-best-performer-cryptonews/ Cardano price forecast is mostly neutral as the altcoin consolidates near the $0.4166 triple bottom support area. ADA has formed a descending triangle pattern on the daily timeframe, indicating a bearish bias among investors.  Cardano was among the few digital currencies hit particularly hard during the second and third quarters’ bear market. The value of ADA has fallen dramatically during the previous two months, falling more than 25%.  Can ADA become the best performer in 2022? Let’s find out! Cardano Seeks NFT Community’s Interest   Despite unfavorable market conditions, the ADA team has been striving to attract attention from the NFT groups. Unfortunately for Cardano, their efforts were futile because the blockchain couldn’t generate significant NFT sales. According to the graph, Cardano NFT sales have been relatively flat since September 28th. NFT sales skyrocketed on this date. The launch of a Cardano NFT gaming project could explain the rise. Cardano NFT Sales – Source: Santiment Cardano’s DeFi Activity Continues to Decline Declining DeFi activity could be another aspect working against ADA’s development. There was a significant drop in ADA’s TVL (total volume locked) value during the past month. Cardano’s total TVL was $135.39 million on August 1st, which peaked at $326 million on March 24th. As of this writing, its TVL was $75.32 million, down 0.31% from the previous day. The Cardano team can increase the project’s survival prospects by focusing on expansion in the NFT and DeFi industries. Bearish indicators currently exceed bullish ones, making a bright future for Cardano seem unlikely. Cardano’s Founder Bashes the XRP Community In a recent tweet, Cardano co-founder and chief architect Charles Hoskinson vented his anger at the XRP community, saying he no longer wanted to interact with them.  After XRP supporters on Twitter started posting about “digging dirt” on the Input-Output CEO, Hoskinson accused them of propagating “conspiracies” about him. Whereas the Ethereum co-founder has stated his opinion that most layer-1 protocols aren’t securities, he has criticized people who target current and former government workers and accuse the US Securities and Exchange Commission of corruption without providing evidence. Hoskinson argued, “Howie has nothing to do with individual corruption.”  The founder of Cardano emphasized the futility of anger, adding that “cynicism” and “bullying” are similarly fruitless. Cardano Price Review & Tokenomics  Cardano’s current price is $0.423166, with a 24-hour trading volume of $288 million. Cardano has fallen by 0.46% in the last 24 hours.  CoinMarketCap currently ranks #8 with a live market cap of $14.5 billion. There are 34.26 billion ADA coins in circulation, with a maximum supply of 45 ADA coins. Cardano Price Forecast – Can ADA Become 2022 Best Performer? Cardano has formed a descending triangle pattern, providing immediate support near $0.4166. Because descending triangle patterns tend to break on the lower side, the odds of a bearish breakout remain fairly strong. The lagging indicator, the 50-day moving average, is extending an immediate resistance near the $0.4560 level, keeping Cardano in a bearish trend. The leading indicators RSI and MACD, on the other hand, are also indicating a bearish bias. A spike in selling pressure could push the downtrend all the way to the $0.3915 or $0.3660 support levels.   On the upside, the downward trendline may extend resistance near $0.4466, and a break above this can push ADA towards resistance levels of $0.4689, $0.4895, or $0.5245. Cardano does not appear to be the best performer in 2022 based on the fundamental indicators discussed above; however, a few altcoins are staying in the spotlight due to their massive performance. Let’s go over them quickly. Cardano Alternatives – Tamadoge & IMPT Pumping Over 165% from its yearly low of $0.01683, the meme coin Tamadoge is gaining popularity. OpenSea now sells the Ultra-rare Tamadoge NFTs, with a start price of 1 WETH. Tamadoge has become the 3rd biggest meme coin in the crypto space. After only six days of the presale, the project’s native currency, the IMPT token, has already raised an incredible $2.4 million, having sold 133.36 tokens.  Even though the blockchain-based carbon credit marketplace began its auction during a bear market for cryptocurrencies, demand for the marketplace token remained high.

Murphy: US Relationship With Saudis broken The Hill
Murphy: US Relationship With Saudis broken The Hill
Murphy: US Relationship With Saudis ‘broken’ – The Hill https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/murphy-us-relationship-with-saudis-broken-the-hill/ Greg Nash Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) leaves the Capitol following votes on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 as work continues on the continuing resolution to fund the federal government. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Sunday called for a reassessment of the U.S. military alliance with Saudi Arabia after the country and its oil-exporting allies agreed to a production cut, describing the decades-long partnership as “broken.” Speaking with co-anchor Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Murphy lambasted OPEC+’s cut of 2 million oil barrels per day that will likely lead to price gains, which came after President Biden visited Saudi Arabia in July to appeal to the oil-rich nation while drawing controversy given its human rights record. “I don’t have any problem with American presidents meeting with our friends or adversaries,” Murphy said on Sunday. “I think it’s clear that right now the relationship is broken. But it’s been broken under Democratic presidents and Republican presidents.” OPEC+ announced a production increase following Biden’s visit, but the jump was smaller than the White House had hoped.  The oil cartel’s cut has prompted some lawmakers, including Murphy, to rethink Washington’s alliance with Saudi Arabia, which routinely purchases American weapons and houses U.S. troops. “We sell massive amounts of arms to the Saudis,” Murphy said on CNN. “I think we need to rethink those sales. I think we need to lift the exemption that we have given this OPEC+ cartel from U.S. price-fixing liability. I think we need to look at our true presence in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia.” The U.S. has long maintained its military partnership with the Saudis for years despite the countries’ sometimes rocky relationship. Saudi royals garnered harsh criticism from the U.S. and human rights advocates in particular after the 2018 murder of Washington Post columnist and Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi, which U.S. intelligence officials have concluded was directed by the Saudi crown prince. Biden had vowed to make Saudi Arabia a “pariah” during his 2020 campaign before ultimately meeting with the Saudi crown prince as the globe faced high inflation and energy prices that surged in part after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “For years, we have looked the other way as Saudi Arabia has chopped up journalists, has engaged in massive political repression, for one reason: we wanted to know that when the chips were down, when there was a global crisis, that the Saudis would choose us instead of Russia,” Murphy told Tapper. “Well, they didn’t. They chose Russia,” Murphy added. Russia is part of the OPEC+ alliance that agreed to an oil production cut, likely boosting the price of oil on global markets and enabling Moscow to more easily finance its invasion of Ukraine. The U.S. and its G7 allies have sought to cap the price of Russian oil exports, although a final deal, including a specific price point, has yet to materialize.

De Anzas Auto Tech Program Grows By Degrees The Mercury News
De Anza’s Auto Tech Program Grows By Degrees – The Mercury News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/de-anzas-auto-tech-program-grows-by-degrees-the-mercury-news/ De Anza College has been given formal approval to offer its first-ever baccalaureate degree. The California Community Colleges Board of Governors announced in late September that the Cupertino-based community college is cleared to offer a bachelor of science degree in automotive technology management as of the 2023-24 school year. De Anza was one of 10 community colleges that submitted proposals for baccalaureate programs to the state chancellor’s office earlier this year, of which six were forwarded to the board of governors for approval. The new automotive technology degree program was developed by the business, computer science and applied technologies division along with the automotive technology department. It will include general education courses and new upper division classes, although those courses must still go through a curriculum development process. De Anza hopes to offer classes toward the degree like automotive marketing, supply chain management, sales forecasting and human resources. “We’re excited about expanding the Auto Tech program with this new degree, which will offer greater career and financial opportunities for our students while filling a need for local employers,” said De Anza’s Auto Tech Department Chair Dave Capitolo. Many of De Anza’s students are already working and seeking better opportunities at their jobs, according to De Anza College officials. The auto tech department offers both day and evening programs to accommodate students who may work or have other obligations. Offering a bachelor’s degree extends the academic and career pathways for students, especially historically underrepresented populations who may not have the time or money to earn a higher degree. “The new BS has been designed on the concept of stackable credentials, which allows individuals to progress on a career path that can improve their economic status,” said Dr. Moaty Fayek, dean of business, computer science and applied technologies at De Anza. “Students can complete a certificate, then an associate degree, and now students will be able to earn a bachelor’s degree, all for considerably less of a financial impact compared to universities.” The automotive industry is an important California employment sector, according to De Anza officials, and it’s been strengthened by advances in consumer automotive technology and is expanding into markets such as autonomous vehicles. The auto tech department gathered information from auto dealerships, repair shops and auto part stores when it was developing its proposal. “Most retailers are looking for managers that have a four-year degree,” said Mitchell May, western region education manager of Subaru University, a partnership between some Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation schools and Subaru of America. ASE is a nonprofit organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level automotive technology education. “Having the bachelor’s degree coupled with the automotive technology experience makes them ideal candidates for managers in all the departments within a dealership,” May said. De Anza’s automotive technology department has more than 2,000 students enrolled each year. It currently offers associates degrees in automotive machining and engine repair technology, as well as advanced engine performance, automotive chassis and automotive powertrain technologies. In addition, De Anza offers certificates of achievement designed to prepare students to be entry-level technicians in a number of automotive related fields, and the college offers noncredit classes, which do not count toward a degree or academic certificate but increase a student’s knowledge in automotive chassis technology and general service and smog technician requirements. There are no fees, placement tests or prerequisites required for the noncredit classes. Many of California’s community colleges offer bachelor’s degrees in fields such as industrial automation, dental hygiene and bio-manufacturing through a pilot program that launched in 2014. The program became permanent through Assembly Bill 927, which was signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in October 2021. Currently, several community colleges in the Bay Area offer bachelor’s degrees, including San Bruno’s Skyline College, which offers a BS in respiratory care, and Foothill College in Los Altos, which offers a BS in dental hygiene.

Hyundai Launches Quirky Ioniq 5-Powered EV Getaway Hotel In England CarBuzz
Hyundai Launches Quirky Ioniq 5-Powered EV Getaway Hotel In England CarBuzz
Hyundai Launches Quirky Ioniq 5-Powered EV Getaway Hotel In England – CarBuzz https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/hyundai-launches-quirky-ioniq-5-powered-ev-getaway-hotel-in-england-carbuzz/ A stress-free and serene vacation powered by the energy of the South Korean EV crossover. Guests in England who want to be more in touch with their electric cars can now enjoy a relaxing stay at Hyundai’s new EV-powered hotel experience in conjunction with Kip Hideaways. The resort is aptly named Hotel Hyundai and is currently open for bookings. The brand says that this launch is in response to research it conducted that revealed 2,000 holidaymakers in the region are unlikely to go on international vacation due to the increased cost of living. The special vacation destination is described as a high-end luxury cabin located on the Colemans farm covering 200 acres of historic farmlands. The cabin is equipped to be on the same standard as a boutique hotel as it includes all of the necessities ranging from premium lighting, charging points, a kettle, and a shower, all of which are powered by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 using its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. Hyundai Hyundai The hotel offers facilities that include a bar, a restaurant, and a cinema that are also powered by the electric crossover. The eating and drinking station has been curated by celebrity chef Grace Dent who has ensured that the offerings are both innovative and sustainable. All ingredients are sourced locally from the Essex region. Partnering with this section is an Ioniq 5-themed coffee lounge that boasts an espresso machine powered by the EV. The cinematic experience employs the Ioniq 5’s projector and speakers. This is accompanied by a V2L popcorn machine for movie-goers who start to feel a bit peckish. The big question is whether the compact EV crossovers have the gusto to consistently run a full-scale cabin resort. The brand affirms that thanks to its maximum AC power capacity of 3.6 kilowatts, the Ioniq 5 can power basic appliances using a special adapter with ease. Hyundai believes that the locals will genuinely appreciate the off-the-grid experience, as the aforementioned research also revealed that locals are keen on spending their free vacation time at home. This is predominately due to the desire to support local businesses, minimize travel, and lower their overall carbon footprint. The only question is, what happens when the cars run out of juice; how are they recharged? This novelty resort looks cool, but is it truly sustainable? Hopefully, solar and wind will generate energy to recharge the cars. Kip Hideaways CarBuzz Hyundai %

Former Wasps Chief Spearheads Bid For Stricken Premiership Rugby Club Sky News
Former Wasps Chief Spearheads Bid For Stricken Premiership Rugby Club – Sky News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/former-wasps-chief-spearheads-bid-for-stricken-premiership-rugby-club-sky-news/ A former boss of crisis-hit Wasps is spearheading a takeover bid for the Premiership Rugby club that could save it from the threat of relegation or extinction. Sky News has learnt that David Armstrong, who stepped down as Wasps’ chief executive in 2017, is working with Terminum Capital, an investment firm, on a bid to buy the club and its Coventry Arena stadium. Sources close to the auction of Wasps, which is taking place just days before its holding company faces being plunged into administration, said the bid led by Mr Armstrong and Terminum Capital was worth more than £50m, with a further £12m earmarked for working capital. Wasps, who play host to Northampton Saints in a Gallagher English Premiership match on Sunday afternoon, have been pushed to the brink of financial ruin by a debt pile which includes an unpaid tax bill owed to HM Revenue & Customs. The club’s parent company, Wasps Holdings, filed a notice of intention to appoint FRP Advisory, the restructuring firm, as administrator on September 21. This was followed by a second such notice last week. Those filings buy companies ten days of breathing space from creditors while they seek to find a way through their financial troubles. Wasps is one of the oldest clubs in English rugby, having been founded in 1867 in Hampstead, London. It currently sits in 11th place in the 12-team table ahead of Sunday’s match. ‘A powerful combination‘ People close to the auction of Wasps say a solvent deal to buy the club and its stadium, either together or separately, is unlikely. The Terminum Capital bid led by Mr Armstrong is said to have requested to Premiership Rugby Limited, the league’s administrator, and the Rugby Football Union, the sport’s governing body, that a deal executed through an administration process should not result in the club’s relegation. The game’s authorities have the discretion to apply a points deduction rather than demotion in the event of something called a ‘no-fault administration’, according to one rugby insider. Wasps’ stadium includes conference and banqueting facilities which are believed to have drawn interest from a number of other bidders which are not interested in buying the rugby club itself. Oakwell Sports, one of the UK’s leading sports-focused corporate finance firms, and its founder, Andrew Umbers, are said to be advising on Mr Armstrong’s bid. One rugby expert said the combination of Mr Armstrong’s expertise and that of Oakwell provided a “powerful combination” which could secure Wasps’ financial future. “We have a plan of bringing about global talent and fostering a greater rugby community,” said a person close to the offer. ‘Discussions at a relatively advanced stage‘ After stepping down as Wasps CEO, Mr Armstrong remained on its board as a non-executive director until 2021. A statement last week from Wasps Holdings said: “Since filing the original notice of intention on 21 September, a number of additional potential investors and funders have come forward. “Discussions are now at a relatively advanced stage, and we remain hopeful of securing a deal that will allow the group, and the entities that sit within it, to move forward. “We would like to thank all stakeholders for their engagement during this process, and in particular the constructive support and approach provided by the RFU (Rugby Football Union) and PRL (Premiership Rugby). “This will continue to be vitally important as negotiations with interested parties proceed and we remain in regular dialogue with both organisations. ‘Extremely challenging’ financial circumstances “While the financial circumstances facing the group are extremely challenging, we remain optimistic about a positive outcome and will keep our players, staff, supporters, partners, bond holders and suppliers updated as this process moves forward.” Mr Armstrong could not be reached for comment on Sunday. Wasps’ plight comes as Worcester Warriors, another member of the English top flight, also faces existential questions, having seen its parent company appoint Begbies Traynor as administrators last week. The financial challenges affecting a number of clubs partly arose during the COVID pandemic but have raised broader questions about the sustainability of the professional game in England.

14 Easy, Budget-Friendly Recipes For A Tailgate – EatingWell https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/14-easy-budget-friendly-recipes-for-a-tailgate-eatingwell/ Baked Buffalo Chicken Wings Credit: Jennifer Causey Fall has different meanings to everyone, and one of the things it means to me is football season. So much so that one of my favorite memories from growing up was watching my family’s favorite team with my brothers and dad on the living room couch. Since going to college at Michigan State University (go green!), football has become synonymous with tailgates and hosting. And the one thing that really makes the tailgate is the food. Many dishes are great for sharing, but these are some of my favorite tailgating recipes for many reasons. First, these recipes rely on budget-friendly ingredients like legumes, frozen vegetables and condiments or spices I have on hand. Second, they’re easy to make and feed a crowd, especially if you double the recipe. And lastly, this list includes comfort food all-stars like chili and nachos, but each recipe is packed with vegetables, legumes and whole grains for something that’s equally as cozy as it’s  balanced. For me, a tailgate isn’t a tailgate without buffalo wings or creamy dips, and our Slow-Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip is truly the best of both worlds. For something that’s more fresh, our Chunky Black Bean Salsa with Corn & Bell Peppers takes just 20 minutes of active time and is super flavorful, nutritious and filling. Whether hosting or attending a game day potluck, try out some of these recipes for your next tailgate. For more budget- and beginner-friendly cooking tips, check out Thrifty. Just like the original Buffalo wings, these baked Buffalo wings are coated in a tangy, spicy sauce and served with carrots, celery and your favorite creamy dipping sauce. If you can find frozen artichokes, swap them in for the canned version to cut back on sodium. Serve with tortilla chips and crudités for dipping. Chunky Black Bean Salsa with Corn & Bell Pepper chunky black bean salsa with corn & bell pepper Credit: Fred Hardy This TikTok-trending, veggie-packed salsa gets inspiration from Texas caviar (aka cowboy caviar), a dish created in 1940 to ring in the New Year by Helen Corbitt, who was a chef at Neiman Marcus. Scoop it up with tortilla chips or try it as a topping for grilled meat or fish, or as a filling for a quick quesadilla.  Advertisement Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili Credit: Photographer /Antonis Achilleos, Prop Stylist / Kay Clarke, Food Stylist / Emily Nabors Hall Make a double batch of this quick vegetarian chili, full of black beans and sweet potatoes, and eat it for lunch the next day or freeze the extras for another night. We love the smoky heat from the ground chipotle, but omit it if you prefer a mild chili. Serve with tortilla chips or cornbread and coleslaw. Sheet-Pan Caprese Pizza 6974157.jpg This light and flavorful caprese pizza is ready when the tomatoes are just heated through and the mozzarella cheese is slightly melted. If you want a little more on this pizza, it’d be delicious with a few slices of prosciutto. Chef tip: let your dough come up to room temperature before you stretch it—it’ll make it much easier to work with. Loaded Black Bean Dip loaded black bean dip in a white bowl served with tortilla chips This is 7-layer black bean dip simplified: just heat and season refried beans, then top with fresh vegetables for a texturally exciting dip. If you like spicy salsa, use the full amount of jalapeños and add more cayenne pepper. Serve with chips, tacos and more. Loaded Sheet-Pan Nachos 7663047.jpg This quick and easy Super Bowl recipe has been referred to as “the best nachos people have ever had.” With easy-to-find ingredients, an optional pop of tang and spice from the pickled jalapeños, and the salsa verde and sour cream for serving, we think it’s earned its title! Slow-Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip Slow-Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip This healthy copycat recipe for classic Buffalo dip cooks in your slow cooker for an easy, hands-off appetizer you can keep warm for the whole game, party or any casual gathering. Serve with carrot sticks, celery sticks and tortilla chips for dipping. Mom’s Chili Mom’s Chili This healthy basic beef chili recipe is well worth doubling so you can throw a batch in the freezer. Serve topped with diced red onion, sliced scallions, shredded cheese and your favorite hot sauce. Cheesy Jalapeño Corn Dip 8097416.jpg Creamy melted cheese brings sweet corn and spicy jalapeño together with a nice pop of brightness from lime juice and cilantro in this tasty dip inspired by Mexican elote and esquites. This creamy and satisfying dish can be served with tortilla chips and veggies for dipping. Six Questions With The Commander Of US Army Europe And Africa DefenseNews.com
Six Questions With The Commander Of US Army Europe And Africa – DefenseNews.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/six-questions-with-the-commander-of-us-army-europe-and-africa-defensenews-com/ WASHINGTON — Gen. Darryl Williams has been the commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa since June 2022, a job that puts him front and center in NATO efforts to fortify the eastern front after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He spoke with Defense News in late September about his observations on the war and why standardized artillery training among allies is all the rage. This interview was edited for length and clarity. As a member of the ground profession, what are your thoughts on the way the war in Ukraine has played out? As the guy responsible for the coherency of land [operations] in Europe, I think that things are going pretty well, from NATO’s perspective, in terms of how we are supporting and enabling our Ukrainian counterparts. It’s probably too early to tell the full lessons learned from it. The U.S. Army and the armies of NATO are learning organizations. And certainly, we will pass down the lessons that we’re learning, but I think it’s still premature. It’s early in this campaign. What do I think about it? I’m very proud of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. And I’m very proud of how they’re conducting and comporting themselves. They strike me as — I’ve met a few of them, not at all of them — but they are professional. I’m really impressed about how they’re conducting themselves in the land domain. What do you make of the Germans beating themselves up, or getting beaten up, over their hesitation to deliver Leopard tanks to Ukraine? I’ve been a big fan of the great country of Germany and have been here since I was an oberleutnant in the early 1980s. They continue to be strong members of NATO and are doing their share, like other members. Some analysts have noted an absence of a meaningful air component in how the war is playing out. What do you think of that? All of the domains are being challenged, not just land. You may not see it being realized, but my read of the battlefield is that all of the domains are being operated by both sides. Our job as the land governors, if you will, is to ensure that all of those domains are integrated to have effects on the land. On military mobility in Europe, what improvements and setbacks have you seen in transporting equipment and troops? As I mentioned, I’ve been here since the early ’80s, and I’ve been back to subsequent tours. I’ve always seen improvements along those routes. We have some more to go. But I see a lot of interoperability TTPs — techniques, tactics and procedures — being shared among the alliance. At 7th Army Training Command down in Grafenwöhr and Hohenfels, for example, there’s an opportunity for our allies to come in and practice mobility and interoperability. In fact, we just finished an exercise last week, where we had multiple allies supporting our airborne brigade combat team, the 173rd, at exercise Saber Junction. I’m on the upside of where we are in that respect. It’s only going to get better as we continue to engage. Looking at upcoming exercises, what are you keen to see U.S. Army forces and allied forces get better at? What you’re trying to get through exercises is trust: confidence in your own personal, your own nation’s equipment, as well as confidence in other nations’ equipment, confidence in each other’s soldiers. And then there is standardization. We have one exercise that we do here, which was actually very nascent when I was here a few years ago, called Dynamic Front. It was as big as it’s ever been this past year, and it’s going to get bigger next year. As you can see, in the fight going on right now, artillery is at the forefront in a very, very big way. Dynamic Front allows us to get at standardization across the alliance and how we better standardize fires, ensure that we can be there for fire support. What came out of your recent talks with Swedish and Finnish army leaders? It was really about plotting the way ahead and looking for opportunities for mutual engagement, interoperability and standardization, as they are aspirational members of NATO. It was about improving on what we’ve already done for some time, and then talking about potentially thickening those relationships as we go forward. The unique skill set they bring is Arctic training. And potentially there’s an opportunity for our own Army units with that specialty, like the 10th Mountain Division, for linking them up and continuing to train together in that respect. IIT Mandi Start Up To Launch Worlds First Giant Swing Backed By AI In Manali The Indian Express
IIT Mandi Start Up To Launch World’s First Giant Swing Backed By AI In Manali – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/iit-mandi-start-up-to-launch-worlds-first-giant-swing-backed-by-ai-in-manali-the-indian-express/ Come January, tourists in Manali will be able to get adrenaline rush riding a giant swing backed by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has been built by a start up incubated at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi and is claimed to be the first-of-its kind in the world. Founded by four childhood adventure enthusiast friends who are engineers and certified rock climbers and mountaineers, the start up called ‘ManaliSwing’, has completed its human jump trials and is in process of filing five patents for the concept and design. The team claims it has already been approached by Dubai government to launch the swing in the country and is in conversation with interested agencies in Switzerland too. “We will offer one of the world’s most creative and safe giant swing like bungy jumping but instead of going down on rubber bungy cord, here one freefall followed by giant swing on dual dynamic ropes with over 100 possible jump styles allowing one to experience the adrenaline of 70m free fall with AI promising impeccable safety like never before,” Utsav Soni, one of the founders, told PTI. “The plan is to launch in Manali on new year. The tourists will have to pay Rs 3,000 for each jump. The cost will include transportation from a certain point and professional photography and videography service,” he added. The start up conducted a full-scale trial of 1,000 dummy jumps followed by successful Human Jumps under the special presence of IRATA experts at IIT Hyderabad. “The AI will also help track participants and jump master’s performance across millions of data points and deliver optimized approvals for jumping. Having a really intelligent AI will be an edge for a Jump Master and his team making sure no injury, incident, or causality can happen on the site. For example, AI will not approve the jump if there is anything wrong with the followed jump protocol or international standards. “This will be one of the best intersections of technology, innovation and adventure sport of this decade which has potential to disrupt the whole adventure tourism industry. The good part is that we don’t need to have some special hi-tech cameras and expensive setups to do this. This can be franchised anywhere in the world with an existing standard hi-res CCTV security camera feed,” he added. The team has plans to launch the second similar swing in Goa and then take the technology to other countries. “India, despite been world’s youngest country with 50 per cent population below 25, stands at 96th position in global Adventure Tourism Competitive Index (ATDI) 2020. That too is consistently decreasing since last 4 years. India ranks much lower than its neighbours, Bhutan (14th), and Nepal (67th). Especially, when there is a 178 per cent increase in demand of adventure activity in last 3 years. “Somewhere, India has failed to cultivate the culture of innovation in extreme adventure tourism. It’s Incredible India but not innovative India in terms of adventure tourism compared to its global potential. We already have been approached by Dubai government and talks are on at Switzerland too but plan is to launch in India first,” Soni said. The project which was conceptualised five years back was commercially registered last year as a start up. “We approached IIT Mandi with the idea and three months later we were an incorporated company with firs working prototype,” he added.

LG UltraGear 27GN950: A Gaming Monitor For Everyday Use? Android Authority
LG UltraGear 27GN950: A Gaming Monitor For Everyday Use? Android Authority
LG UltraGear 27GN950: A Gaming Monitor For Everyday Use? – Android Authority https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/lg-ultragear-27gn950-a-gaming-monitor-for-everyday-use-android-authority/ Ryan Haines / Android Authority I spent my first two years at Android Authority with a terrible monitor. It was small and heavy, had a low resolution, and the refresh rate was little more than “yeah, it refreshes.” I got used to my miserable monitor in a sort of Stockholm Syndrome way, eventually accepting its shortcomings. Then, I moved, and, as one does, I decided it was time for an upgrade. Considering how long I’d stuck with my previous option — which I’d had even before my time here — I decided a splurge would be in order. I set my requirements, mainly a 27-inch display, 4K resolution, and an actual refresh rate, and stuck to them. Ultimately, I chose the LG UltraGear 27GN950, a gaming monitor, even though I’m not an avid gamer. It’s an excellent monitor and one that I’m really enjoying, but it taught me a lesson: Buy a monitor that meets your needs, not your aspirations. It turns out that a high-end gaming monitor is more than I needed and that there can be too much of a good thing. If you’re not a die-hard gamer, you might be better off with an ultrawide monitor or maybe a 4K TV, but I learned some lessons by choosing all-around power. About this article: I tested the LG UltraGear 27GN950 for six weeks. The unit was bought by Android Authority for the purpose of this article. What they say about big feet Ryan Haines / Android Authority From the minute you open the box and set up the LG UltraGear 27GN950 — an absolute mouthful of a name — it’s clear that the monitor aspires to do more than Facebook scrolling and YouTube streaming. The style cues are aggressive, from angry red accents pulled from a Rian Johnson Star Wars film to a massive RGB lighting ring that fell off a circus tent. I can live with most of the choices, as they’re hidden away behind the monitor itself, but the stand is another story. You’ve probably heard the saying “measure twice, cut once,” but in this case, it should be “measure twice, buy once.” The UltraGear 27GN950’s long, angular legs and broad base stretch far across my desk, creating a hefty footprint. I’ve had to rearrange my setup to accommodate it, something I wasn’t expecting after the modesty of my last monitor. The aggressive red details and massive RGB ring leave little doubt — this is a gaming monitor through and through. The monitor stand isn’t particularly adjustable, either. It shifts up and down, but I’ve had trouble pivoting the display to the left or right, forcing me to rotate the entire stand to find the perfect angle. Thankfully, you do have the option of mounting the UltraGear 27GN950 to your wall, though that might make accessing the ports tricky. They sit right next to the mount point, so you might end up reaching blindly to attach cables. Mounting does solve the issues with LG’s large and hefty base, though. You might also want to familiarize yourself with the UltraGear’s controls as you set it up. There’s a small wheel and a D-pad along the bottom edge, the latter of which allows you to tweak settings for different game modes. It dictates your brightness, contrast, and all the other fine points you’d expect from a high-end gaming monitor. I recommend trying them out before you get too far into your gaming session, as it’s somewhat tricky to navigate the D-pad without looking at it. Interested in other options? Here are our favorite 27-inch monitors A broadsword to a knife fight Once you get your monitor into position, everything else is a breeze. The LG UltraGear 27GN950 packs more than enough connectivity options, with two HDMI ports, three USB-A options, a DisplayPort, and a headphone jack. Right now, I’m only using an HDMI port to connect to my laptop dock, but it would be easy enough to daisy chain one monitor to another for even more real estate. The 27-inch Nano-IPS panel itself is brilliant. Its 4K (3,849 x 2,160) resolution is crisp, and the 144Hz refresh rate is smooth and stutter-free. The only bezel worth mentioning runs across the bottom edge, and even then, it’s only about as thick as an iPhone’s notch. I can’t speak to Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync, but as a photo editor, LG’s color accuracy is exactly what I wanted. I used to run Lightroom off my 13-inch laptop display, making do with the limited space and keeping myself to one menu at a time. Now, I can offer my editing process about two-thirds of the LG UltraGear 27GN950, with enough room left for my Slack messages. Want some gaming options? The best Nvidia G-Sync monitors | The best AMD FreeSync monitors My secondary use — after I’m done writing and editing for the day — is for streaming. Not Twitch, as we’ve already established that I’m no avid gamer, but video. The UltraGear 27GN950 has become my Sunday night companion for House of the Dragon, and it’s already calling my name to catch up on Andor. LG’s matte finish means I don’t have to see my reflection as I plow through snacks, and the previously mentioned color accuracy means I don’t actually miss streaming on a TV instead. LG’s brightness controls also mean that you can tweak your picture, so you’re not one of the many viewers complaining that House of the Dragon is too dark — it’s brighter than The Long Night from Game of Thrones, anyway. The main problem, as far as my needs go, is that I have too much of a good thing. Using the UltraGear 27GN950 is like taking a Ferrari to the grocery store. It’s capable of everything I need, yet I feel like I’m not living up to the monitor’s lofty expectations. True gamers will make far better use of the blistering refresh rate and GPU syncing features, but I’ve learned a tech lesson that I probably should know by now. Lessons learned Ryan Haines / Android Authority In picking a new piece of tech, it’s better to buy for your needs rather than for your aspirations. When I bought a camera, I chose the reasonable and well-rounded Fujifilm XE-4, not the high-end XT-4 or X-Pro3. The more expensive cameras offered more in the way of features, yet they far exceeded my needs at the time. My monitor buying experience tells a similar tale. I settled on LG for its excellent reputation, figuring that I’d had good experiences with the brand’s TVs and smartphones (RIP) in the past. Then I figured that going for specs above my current needs would lend a bit of future-proofing to my setup. Ultimately, I landed on the UltraGear series. I got lucky with a $200 discount that put the 27GN950 within my reach and figured it was too good an upgrade to pass up. I can say for certain that I don’t regret choosing LG for my monitor. The LG UltraGear 27GN950 is a well-rounded powerhouse that’s yet to let me down. If anything, I’m letting the monitor down by not pushing it through RPGs or even racing games. That’s my story, but the real question is what lesson I can teach you about the RGB-loaded, high refresh rate promised land. Well, if you’re a gamer, this setup is a no-brainer. The display itself is bright, sharp, and accurate as long as you can find the desk space. There’s not much else you can ask for in a gaming monitor. It’s far from the most affordable option, but you’re getting specs in line with what you pay for. I wanted, and got, a flat panel, though you might prefer a curved alternative if you have your sights set on gaming. It’s a brilliant monitor, but the LG 27GN950 reminded me that it’s better to buy for your needs rather than your aspirations. If you’re like me and looking for a monitor that you can use for working from home, there are better options. Not because the LG UltraGear 27GN950 has any major flaws, but because it’s more than most people need. I love using it to edit photos in Lightroom, but you can find similar color quality on many of LG’s more affordable monitors. You could answer emails and dominate spreadsheets with LG’s power at your back, but it’s like buying an Apple Watch Ultra for your weekly spin class — it works, but it’s not the right tool for the job. Want to save some money? Here are the best monitor deals The final decision might come down to how much you can spend on a monitor. At $799, the UltraGear 27GN950 isn’t cheap, but it’s been around for a little while, so you might get lucky with a sale or two. LG UltraGear 27GN950-B Clean 4K monitor • 144Hz refresh rate • G-Sync and FreeSync The LG Ultragear 27GN950-B is a nano-IPS 27-inch monitor that rocks a 3840×2160 resolution. This flat-screen monitor has a tall stand, offers 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. It’s also G-Sync and FreeSync compatible. What do you think? Your Guide To The Election Deniers Running In Top Michigan Races On Nov. 8 ⋆ Michigan Advance – Michigan Advance https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/your-guide-to-the-election-deniers-running-in-top-michigan-races-on-nov-8-%e2%8b%86-michigan-advance-michigan-advance/ Even as the Nov. 8 election inches ever closer, many Republican candidates on the ballot in Michigan — a key swing state in presidential elections and the focus of many endorsements from former President Donald Trump — still refuse to accept the results of the 2020 general election that Trump lost. Aside from outrightly rejecting the reality that President Joe Biden won, which has almost certainly undermined public trust in secure elections, having a litany of 2020 deniers up and down the ballot could have big implications for future races. Michigan is not alone in having many GOP candidates running for office (see also Arizona, Nevada and Pennsylvania). FiveThirtyEight reports that 60% of Americans will have an election denier on the ballot this year. And the Washington Post found that the majority of GOP nominees for the House, Senate and key statewide offices have denied or questioned the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. Given our status as a key state in 2024 — and having a trifecta of election deniers on the 2022 ballot — leaves the Great Lakes State among the most-watched on Nov. 8.  Experts warn that how votes will be counted and the outcomes of 2024 races — including the presidency — are at stake. GOP nominees (L-R): Tudor Dixon for governor, Matt DePerno for attorney general and Kristina Karamo for secretary of state | Andrew Roth and Allison R. Donahue photos “Repeated false claims about 2020 have made election denial a key issue in many races this year, including for offices that will play a role in running or certifying the 2024 elections,” said Ian Vandewalker, senior counsel in the Brennan Center’s Elections and Government Program. “We’ve come to a point where each side is saying the other is an existential threat to democracy. But elections don’t work if people don’t trust the result, so this rhetoric risks becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy if it shakes voters’ confidence in democracy.” Whoever occupies the offices of governor, attorney general and secretary of state has significant power over election certification and outcomes. So do members of Congress. The secretary of state —the chief election official — has the most direct impact on elections in most states. Governors can sign or veto legislation dictating the administration of elections, which could affect which voters are able to cast ballots and more. Executive orders concerning election administration in emergency situations could also come into play. How much of a part governors play in the certification of electoral votes varies among states, but governors in every state are required to transmit those votes to Congress. If a governor chose to certify their state’s electors with fewer votes, the final say on certification would then go to state and federal courts. Governors could also be empowered to select their state’s presidential electors in a new way if Congress were to reform how electoral votes are counted. Repeated false claims about 2020 have made election denial a key issue in many races this year, including for offices that will play a role in running or certifying the 2024 elections. – Ian Vandewalker, senior counsel in the Brennan Center’s Elections and Government Program Members of Congress are charged with certifying electoral votes — the process that insurrectionists disrupted on Jan. 6, 2021. After pro-Trump rioters breached the U.S. Capitol, 147 Republicans, including three from Michigan, voted to overturn the election results. A recent report from the Washington, D.C.-based Defend Democracy Project also named Michigan’s GOP nominees for governor, secretary of state and attorney general — Tudor Dixon, Kristina Karamo and Matt DePerno, respectively — as among the top threats to democracy statewide. But it doesn’t stop there. Aside from the top three statewide posts, there are at least three dozen candidates for Congress and the Legislature in Michigan who still doubt — to varying degrees — that the 2020 election was anything but safe and secure. “Michigan’s slate of anti-democracy Republican candidates is incredibly concerning,” said Gunner Ramer, political director of the Republican Accountability Project launched in May 2020 by the Washington, D.C.-based Defending Democracy Together. “Having these types of Republicans, who continue to sow distrust in our electoral system, play any part in election administration could be potentially catastrophic for our democracy.” Members of the pro-Trump mob destroy multimedia equipment. | Alex Kent Here is the Advance’s roundup of all such candidates running for top offices and congressional seats. Governor and lieutenant governor Former right-wing commentator Tudor Dixon has repeatedly vocalized doubt in the 2020 election by accusing Democrats of “sloppy and obvious” voter fraud just days after the election. “Steal an election then hide behind calls for unity and leftists lap it up,” Dixon tweeted in a Nov. 8, 2021, reply to a tweet from Trump. She has publicly and falsely claimed that Trump won in Michigan as recently as May of this year. Dixon was far from the only election denier running for governor. Other candidates, including Garrett Soldano and Ryan Kelley, falsely claimed that Trump won in 2020. Kelley was also present at the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection in D.C. He is fighting misdemeanor charges stemming from his participation in the mob after being arrested by the FBI this summer.  Dixon is challenging Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for the state’s top office. Whitmer has said she will accept the outcome of Michigan’s November election, whereas Dixon has not. Dixon’s running mate, former state Rep. Shane Hernandez (R-Port Huron), also signaled doubt in the 2020 election by signing onto a letter calling for a so-called “forensic audit” of the process while he was still a state legislator, a popular idea from Trump supporters who don’t accept his loss. More than 250 official state and local audits were conducted in Michigan in the wake of the 2020 election. Each uncovered no evidence of fraud or election security issues, but right-wing election conspiracists have continuously pushed for a more widespread audit. “Should Republicans keep their majorities in the state Legislature, and Tudor Dixon wins, she could work with ‘Stop the Steal’ Republican state legislators to pass election-related legislation ahead of the 2024 election that negatively affects the voting process,” Ramer warned. Republican nominee for Michigan governor Tudor Dixon and her running mate, Shane Hernandez, campaign in Lansing on Aug. 27, 2022. (Andrew Roth | Michigan Advance) Attorney general GOP Attorney General nominee Matthew DePerno has made no shortage of statements calling into question the integrity of the 2020 election. DePerno has claimed there were rigged voting machines in Michigan, has repeatedly and falsely stated that Trump was the true winner in 2020, said he plans to prosecute his opponent, Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel, for a number of baseless claims and more. DePerno was the attorney behind a failed 2020 civil lawsuit claiming that a vote-tallying issue in Antrim County was evidence of possible widespread fraud. In it, DePerno incorrectly surmised that some voting machines in the county had been “compromised.” The issue was, in fact, found to be due to human error, which had been quickly resolved at the time. The suit was dismissed. The lawyer has also been active in so-called “forensic audit” efforts in both Michigan and Arizona. He is now under criminal investigation regarding his alleged participation in an effort to tamper with voting tabulator machines following the 2020 election, which he denies. Nessel has spoken out against election misinformation and has said that any claims that call into question the security and fairness of Michigan’s election process are “wholly without merit.” “If Matthew Deperno wins, he would be the leading legal official in the state and could open up investigations into the 2024 election results that would continue to sow distrust in our electoral system,” Ramer said. Republican nominee for Michigan attorney general Matthew DePerno campaigns in Lansing on Aug. 27, 2022. (Andrew Roth | Michigan Advance) Secretary of state Running to oversee Michigan’s elections is Republican Secretary of State nominee Kristina Karamo, a former community college lecturer, who is also Trump-endorsed and has said she still has “major questions” about who won the presidency in 2020. She is challenging Jocelyn Benson, the Democratic incumbent who has repeatedly noted the state’s election process is safe and secure and pointed to the more than 250 state and local audits confirming there was no widespread election fraud and confirming the 2020 election results. In contrast, Karamo has repeatedly called the validity of the process into question and has falsely claimed that Trump won. As a poll challenger in 2020, Karamo claimed in an affidavit that she saw voter fraud firsthand in Detroit, but she has not provided evidence. She has also criticized Benson for practices that have made voting in Michigan more accessible, like mailing out absentee ballot applications to all residents. “The election of Kristina Karamo is dangerous to our democracy for two main reasons,” Ramer said. “As Michigan’s chief election officer, she could change the election process ahead of the 2024 election and she would have to certify the 2024 election results. Should a Democratic presidential candidate win the state of Michigan in 2024, Karamo has given no indication that she would certify the election results.” Michigan GOP Co-Chair Meshawn Maddock and SOS nominee Krist...

For Dot Schoch, who celebrated her 100th birthday this month, that lifestyle begins with an exercise regimen. “Every morning when I come in to work, Dot’s in our fitness area on a stationary bike,” said Kim Swise, director of sales for Cedarhurst of Pekin assisted living facility, where Schoch now resides. “She’s always got her eyes closed and she’s pedaling away. She stays active, and a body in motion stays in motion.” Schoch, of Pekin, said she has always done something to keep up her physical condition, focusing on activities like swimming and bicycling. She has also always been aware of the importance of a healthy diet that featured fresh produce grown in the garden she and her late husband, Larry, used to keep. And she believes that one secret to her longevity and continued health is that she knew what not to do. “I’ve never smoked, and I’ve never drank,” Schoch said. Although she no longer travels, some of her favorite memories include meeting new people when she and Larry took trips to Europe or to Florida. She also recalls the excitement around her when researchers at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research in Peoria, where she worked for 35 years, discovered a way to manufacture penicillin. “It was all you heard about at work,” Schoch said. “It ended up saving a lot of lives.” More:‘Woo-hoo!’ State-microbe designation would honor penicillin and Peoria In addition to a physically active lifestyle and a proper diet, Schoch believes social activity is a vital part of a long and full life. She is now a fixture at Cedarhurst bingo games and seldom misses a Cedarhurst movie night. “I like the musicals,” Schoch said. “I don’t care for Westerns. John Wayne’s good, but some of the movies are terrible. ‘Gone With the Wind’ is my all-time favorite.” Schoch’s 100th birthday on Oct. 4 began like any other day, with a session in Cedarhurst’s fitness area. From there, she went on to a busy round of meetings, media availabilities, birthday parties, and time with family members. Swise expressed some concern that Schoch might find the day’s busy schedule taxing, but Schoch’s great-niece, Susan Henning, maintained that she would have found a way to keep her social calendar full even without the milestone. “When we started the discussion about Dot moving into assisted living, I asked if there was one in the Peoria area where she had a lot of friends,” Henning said. ”She said, ‘That doesn’t matter. I can make more friends.’ I thought that was really sweet.”

The passer has thrown 11 touchdowns through four games, and what makes matters sweeter for Jackson, is the contract that could be waiting at the other end for him. After a rough start to their 2022 season, the Bengals are looking to add a third consecutive win to the ledger. This new 27-inch gaming display offers support for HDR1000, a deep contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, and 1.7ms ultra-low latency times. The panel, designed by the company AUO, uses the company’s 7.0 second-generation technology. The screen resolution, an ultra-wide size of 3840 x 2160 pixels, offers wireless projection, through mmWave technology, of up to 30 meters distance from the display. Millimeter-wave wireless projection technology, or mmWave, allows the user to project from a mobile device wirelessly to a display, offering faster speed, frequencies, and minimal latency levels. Red Devils offering this type of technology makes sense due to the parent company that owns this sub-brand. Red Magic is owned by Nubia, a smartphone brand that ZTE, the parent company, owns. ZTE has been in the phone marketplace since the late 90s and decided to branch out into the computer component field earlier this year. For physical connections, the Red Devils display carries a single HDMI 2.1 port and a USB Type-C 4.0 port that can charge devices up to 90W and also double as an additional display port. When first revealed earlier this year, the company discussed up to three displays, with one offering 2K resolution and two offerings 4K resolutions, with one of the latter monitors showing the mmWave technology integrated into the display. It was also revealed that there were multiple HDMI ports and a DisplayPort. The advertising for the current display only reveals one HDMI connection and a USB Type-C connection, and it is unknown if there will be additional ports announced within a few days of launch. The three monitors are expected to begin full pre-sale starting on October 10th, but no word has been revealed regarding the pricing of the three. News Source: Fast Technology

Washington County Sees Three Requests For Covid Relief Money In September; Deadline To Apply Is Oct. 31 – Arkansas Online https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/washington-county-sees-three-requests-for-covid-relief-money-in-september-deadline-to-apply-is-oct-31-arkansas-online/ FAYETTEVILLE — More than a month after the county began accepting applications, only three local nonprofit groups have applied to Washington County for federal American Rescue Plan Act money. Partners for Better Housing asked for $502,760, Welcome Health asked for $100,000 and Magdalene Serenity House asked for $33,436, according to Brandi Wilhite, the county’s relief money administrator. The county announced at the end of August it would set aside about $2.3 million of the $46 million in relief money for local nonprofit organizations. The county will accept applications through Oct. 31 and then work with the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District in Harrison to review the applications to see if they comply with federal guidelines. The county will pay the district from $10,000 up to $35,000, depending on the number of applications received and reviewed. After the review, the Quorum Court will receive reports on the applications, and the justices of the peace will decide in early 2023 whether to fund the requests. The lack of an application process was a bone of contention for some nonprofit groups that noted the Quorum Court awarded money to some groups without any process in place to accept and evaluate requests. The county allocated about $2.9 million to Upskill NWA for a job-training program to address shortages of qualified employees in health care and another $315,000 to Returning Home, a Springdale nonprofit group helping men who have been incarcerated reintegrate with the community. April Bachrodt, executive director of Magdalene Serenity House, said she applied with no guidance from the county about minimum or maximum requests for money. “We decided to request funding to cover a portion of the year’s cost of housing our eight women in our two-year program,” Bachrodt said. “We didn’t feel comfortable asking for a large amount, so we tried to propose an amount I felt was very reasonable.” Magdalene Serenity House provides women who have experienced trauma, sexual exploitation and addiction and have been incarcerated with a structured, two-year residential program, which houses up to eight women at a time. Residents receive comprehensive services to meet mental and physical health needs including: counseling, medical and dental care, assistance with application for benefits, job and education readiness, legal advocacy and life skills training. Brittney Gulley, director of development for Welcome Health, said she learned money might be available through a newspaper article. Welcome Health was founded in 1986 by Jessie Bryant as the Northwest Arkansas Free Health Center to provide medical and dental care to low-income or uninsured residents of the area, according to the clinic’s website. Gulley said the effects of the covid-19 pandemic definitely hit the clinic. “We could see a shift in our operation,” Gulley said. “In the beginning, the numbers were fairly small. Then our numbers started to increase as people found themselves without jobs or without insurance.” Gulley said the clinic has an annual budget of about $500,000 and is heavily dependent on grant money, along with donations from individuals, churches and civic groups and local fundraising efforts. In 2021, the clinic provided more than 12,000 free services to more than 2,400 patients. The $100,000 would cover the cost of providing about 2,400 services to 480 patients, she said. Monique Jones with Partners for Better Housing said the group works to help working people get access to the home market. She said as the cost of building has gone up, the cost of homes in Northwest Arkansas has doubled or tripled. The $502,000 the group requested would pay for the education programs and home down payments for those who qualify. The group also plans to offer programs to help senior citizens remain in their homes. “We’re trying to make sure these folks are being taken care of,” she said. Evelyn Rios Stafford, justice of the peace for District 12, said the county should be doing more to publicize the availability of the federal aid money and to help people navigate the application process. She said the county should make use of social media, have the information about the program translated into Spanish and Marshallese to reach people in those communities and do more to try to actively reach people through the news media and public meetings. “Some of these basic communications strategy building blocks would go a long way,” Stafford said. In Benton County, the Quorum Court has spent or committed about $45.5 million of the $54 million the county received from the federal government in American Rescue Plan money, according to information from the county. In August 2021, Benton County requested organizations apply for economic recovery assistance as part of the American Rescue Plan. Organizations presented proposals to the American Rescue Plan Committee — made up of the Quorum Court’s 15 members — from January through March. Quorum Court members based approvals on the established federal criteria for rescue plan projects and considered whether the proposals would have a positive impact on the community, according to a release. The county received 38 applications from nonprofit groups. According to Brenda Peacock, county comptroller, Benton County’s nonprofit group requests totaled about $24.8 million and the county awarded 19 groups about $4.9 million.

Agency News ANI| Oct 09, 2022 12:58 PM IST New Delhi [India], October 9 (ANI): Commodity experts say the sharp rise in crude prices, which rose about 12 per cent in the past week, is mainly responsible for the rally in gold rates. But there are other factors at play as well. Rising global inflation and the volatile stock market have made the yellow metal a “safe” investment bet among investors. The spot prices of gold are headed upwards of $1,780 (approx. Rs 1.47 lakh) per ounce whereas MCX gold rate per 10gm could reach Rs 53,000 by Diwali, the experts say, adding that some profit-booking could also take place. The depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar to a record low of 82.40 is, however, a critical variable that underpins domestic gold prices. After missing action for some years, gold prices in Delhi witnessed some movement at the beginning of 2022 as the volatile equity markets forced investors to seek safe-haven assets like gold. On Sunday morning, however, gold rates remained flat in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. Delhi’s rate for 10 gm of 22-carat gold was Rs 48,010, and it was trading at Rs52,370/10 gm for 24-carat gold. The rate in Chennai for 10 gm of 22-carat gold was Rs 48,400 and the gold rate of 24-carat gold was Rs 52,800. The rate of the precious metal in Kolkata per 10 gm of 22 carat stands at Rs47,850 and the rate of 10 gm of 24-carat gold is at Rs 52,200. The gold rate in Mumbai per 10 gm of 22-carat has been at Rs 47,850 and Rs 52,200 per 10 gm of 24-carat gold. The yellow metal faced resistance around the key $1,740 (Rs 1,44,128) per ounce mark in global markets last week, while at the domestic market Rs 52,100 per 10 gm mark acted as a stiff hurdle for prices. Downtown Living El Dorado News-Times
Downtown Living El Dorado News-Times
Downtown Living – El Dorado News-Times https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/downtown-living-el-dorado-news-times/ Many European shopkeepers and restaurant owners who operate their shops and restaurants on the ground floor of downtown buildings live in the upper floors of the buildings. They figured it out ages ago that a walk down a flight of stairs beats a commute from the edge of town. Downtown living is also beginning increasing in several Arkansas downtowns, which are actively promoting living in the upper floors like the European. I think that as the benefits become more obvious living downtown will continue to catch on. Of course, as fuel costs soar and roads become more and more crowded, living a more convenient and a less stressful life — which many times is also less expensive, since you can walk across the street to a restaurant or go to a downtown gym — is becoming more and more desirable. In fact, many downtown developers, knowing that every person living downtown is almost a captive customer for the surrounding businesses, are actively encouraging downtown living. It’s a very simple premise for communities that want a thriving, healthy downtown. They must do what it takes to bring in more people. People are the key to having a successful shopping mall, strip center or a downtown. After all, downtowns need people more than anything else, and a truly renovated downtown is always known as the place where people congregate. There are plenty of reasons for living in your downtown even if you don’t work in one of the downtown businesses. Not having to get in a car and plunge into hectic traffic is reason enough for a lot people to look for living space in the center of town. Today’s hectic pace of commuting back and forth to work in city centers has turned out to be one of the most stressful parts of many workers’ days, and just the relief of not commuting would be enough reason for a lot of folks to live downtown. Another plus for living downtown are the typically flat roofs of the buildings. These flat roofs are more open to direct sun, and solar panels are easy to install, making the benefits from renewable energy cheaper and more plentiful than ground installations. In older downtowns, especially those with smaller populations, original construction was primarily two story buildings, which housed retail or restaurants on the first floor and a variety of professional people on the upper floors. However, when the malls and strip centers on the edge of town began to attract customers, and when retail and restaurant downtown vacancy soared, the second floor tenants were the first to go, and as every developer will tell you, they will be the last to return. However, as ground floor retail and restaurants begin to return, upper floors vacancy will also drop. Today, in our state, a number of towns are actively working on renovating their downtowns. However, in virtually every town in the state, large or small, a focus on renovating downtowns always seems to falter with second or higher floor spaces. While the upper floors may seem unimportant, they can be the catalyst for a true, vibrant recovery of a downtown if an effort to attract residents to these upper floors is part of the renovation plan. Of course, it helps when first floor restaurants and retail are flourishing and occupancy is high. Then living space on the upper floor space will attract residents. Many times, as the first floors fill up with restaurants and retail stores, the desire to be a part of a successful renovation of a downtown is the impetus that causes the upstairs floors to be renovated to create living space or more commercial space. It happens because of the desire to be in the center of successful downtown. Now let’s look at an example of a successful work in progress. A steady increase in upper floor occupancy is occurring in downtown El Dorado, where upper floor space for resident and corporate professionals is rapidly leasing up. In 1921, when the oil boom money began to flood across south Arkansas, the mostly wood frame one story buildings around the red brick courthouse were quickly replaced with substantial, multi-floored buildings, the old courthouse was leveled and a new, larger courthouse was constructed. The oil boom activity was so intense that the new courthouse stayed open 24 hours a day for a short period of time, and every available space on all floors of the downtown buildings was rented. A few decades later, as strip centers opened on the outskirts of town, and then a mall was constructed, retail businesses and professionals from ground and upper floors of most buildings in the downtown were vacated. The buildings around the courthouse square were less than 25% occupied, and there were no upper floor residents. It was 1987, before any upstairs renovations or new construction took place. However, late that year, with the construction of a new, two-story building with a retail on the first floor, two apartments were put on the second floor and they rented immediately. They were the first two suites of Union Square Guest Quarters. They were so in demand that another five upstairs suites were added at the end of the block as part of another building renovation, which also created retail space for two new stores. Later, in the same block, two new buildings added another 12 suites, most of them upstairs. Another 10 upstairs suites are planned for two other nearby buildings. Although the people who stay at Union Square Guest Quarters aren’t permanent residents, they prefer staying downtown because of the nearby amenities or work related businesses. The desire to live in downtown El Dorado became evident when a downtown condominium was proposed, and even before the plans were finalized, a number of prospective buyers signed up. The condominium was never built because of the lack of a proper site, but it was obvious that the desire to live downtown was there. It’s easy to see why. With a large corporate workforce in several multi-story buildings adjacent to the city’s center, the restaurants, bars and retail stores had ready customers, and if you were an employee of one of these downtown companies and lived downtown, you could walk to work and take your pick of eight restaurants, a top workout center and several bars, all without bothering to get in your car. In the last five years, as downtown El Dorado has continued to add restaurants, bars and retail tenants, several families purchased downtown properties, and after renovations, moved in. Other renovations of upstairs office space in buildings has attracted new office interest and recently were occupied by business tenants. As the retail and restaurants returned to the first floor of downtown buildings, the second floors began to fill up, and today, with the first floor of the core downtown well over 90% occupied, multiple businesses have leased space in the upper floors. Standard Lithium is the latest company to lease second floor space in a newly renovated building. It seems to me, with all the advantages that come from living downtown in a world that is becoming more hectic by the day, downtown residents will continue to increase.
