As a Christian weight loss coach, I’ve heard from many wives who are afraid of hurting his feelings if she tells him she doesn’t want that any more. She’s afraid of rocking this love boat they have created. Many times, these are hard-working husbands who come home at the end of the day with a treat for their wives. It’s something the husband has been doing for a long time and something the wife has always enjoyed and thanked him for. It filled her love tank to know that her husband was thinking about her and made a special stop just for her. Her husband had no idea that candy was literally her downfall and he was helping her gain weight and become even more unhealthy. If this is you, let me just say that your husband is not the one to blame. You are. You taught him what you wanted and he is just following through. Is This Just an Excuse? Here is the real question. Are you just making an excuse so you can continue to eat the candy your man brings you, or do you really want to stop indulging in what you is adding extra pounds to your body? If you really want to begin to eat healthy and you feel like this is a major hold-up on your transformation journey, the key is to talk to your husband. Have a heart-to-heart conversation. Let him know you are beginning a healthy living journey and you need his help. Explain to him what you will be eating and that it would really help you if he would not bring candy home to you. Let him know that you love the candy but you are committed to not eating sweets. Since that is your favorite, it is too tempting when he brings it home for you. Give him some suggestions that would be better for you. Do You Really Want to Transform? Be honest with yourself before you have this conversation. Many people back off from doing this because they don’t want their husbands to know what they are doing in case they can’t or don’t follow through with their plan. If you are really wanting to begin a healthy eating journey, it is imperative that you have those closest to you understand that you are like an alcoholic only with sugar. If you really do want to cut sugar out of your daily indulgences, you have to settle that within yourself. This may not mean stopping it all at once, but taking a habit-change approach that will last for the rest of your life. When pondering this, you may think nothing would give you more pleasure than eating something sweet. I totally get where you are because I’ve definitely been there. However, I’m not there now and I’m so grateful. Sugar is not the ultimate pleasure. It’s not even close. We have elevated it to that status in our lives, haven’t we? And our husbands know it’s what we loved at least at some point in our lives. Now it’s just a reminder of what we shouldn’t do. Being Healthy Helps Us Do God’s Will The aging apostle John wrote this to his fellow believers and it still holds true for us. “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers,” 3 John 2 (NKJV). Being prosperous really means being healthy in all areas—physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. If our bodies aren’t healthy, we can’t do the things God wants us to do. I get it. Sometimes, it feels like it’s us versus the world when we’re trying to give up sugar. Jesus talks about this in His prayer for us in John 17:15-16 (NLT): ”I’m not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do.” He understood that it is a big problem to be in the world and not of the world. So, how can we be in the world, but not succumb to this sugar-laden pleasures that lead us down a treacherous path to an early death through weight gain or obesity-related diseases? Pleasure Without Sugar Kathleen DesMaisons gives some great advice to those with sugar addiction in her book, “Potatoes Not Prozac.” Those of us with this problem are metabolically broken. We have unstable blood sugar and low beta endorphins and serotonin levels. There is a way to combat this, though. There are other healthier activities that release beta endorphins into our bodies and raise our serotonin levels making us feel better. Here’s my list adapted from DesMaisons’ list: Consistent exercise of all types Healthy meditation on the Word of God Balance between moving and being still Listening to Christian music Prayer, silent and vocal Listening to Christian podcasts on subjects you are interested in Eating food so you can taste the real food Cooking healthy foods Dancing Walking in the garden or being outside Listening to inspirational talks (and spiritual messages) Enjoying a hobby that you can get lost in Reading a good book Gardening Arranging flowers Being with people, puppies and kitties that you love Journaling Writing poetry, short stories and books Arts and crafts To implement this change, choose something from the list to do whenever you are tempted to eat sugar. I’m sure your husband will be fine with not bringing you candy, if you choose number one from this list. And until that changes, I don’t think there’s any reason that anybody should change their mind from the current psychology, and that lower high, lower low trap that we’ve been in really since January 3rd is still intact,” he said. Still, Brown identified the few sectors that are working for investors in a volatile market. He said investors should find names the energy sector, where a broad majority of stocks are trading above the 200-day moving average, or are in a definite uptrend. With the Fed largely expected to approve its fourth consecutive 0.75 percentage point increase at its next meeting in early November, Cook said she has supported the path of policy so far but noted that there will be a time to re-evaluate. “At some point, as we continue to tighten monetary policy, it will become appropriate to slow the pace of increases while we assess the effects of our cumulative tightening on the economy and inflation,” she said. “In any case, the path of policy should depend on how quickly we make progress toward our inflation goal.” The Fed shoots for a long-run inflation target of 2%. JPMorgan analysts led by Kian Abouhossein upgraded their recommendation on Credit Suisse to “neutral” from “underweight” with a December 2023 price target of CHF 6. The Zurich-based bank last closed at a total market capitalization of about $11 billion. The bank has “more than $700 billion in private banking assets under management” that is expected to generate a 15% return on tangible equity in 2024, Abouhossein said in his note. “We see $15bn as minimum value today for CSG, in line with our estimated value of the Swiss legal entity.” The path to get there, however, may involve “material share price volatility, uncertainty on strategy, and execution risk” as Credit Suisse is expected to disclose its restructuring plan by Oct. 27, the analyst said. In either of two possible scenarios charted out by the research team, Credit Suisse should be bolstered by the minimum value of its European wealth management operations, according to Abouhossein. Energy was also the only sector trading higher on the day, as traders braced for Friday’s jobs report. —Fred Imbert Mizuho: Electric vehicle makers see price targets cut, but still have substantial upsides Electric vehicle makers Tesla and NIO had their price targets cut by Mizuho as deliveries for the quarter came in below expectations. Tesla deliveries were up about 42% compared to the same period a year ago, but still came in 5.6% below expectations, which the company attributed to logistics challenges. The price target was cut about 5.8% to $370 from $391.67, implying a smaller, yet still substantial, upside of 34.9% from the stock’s last closing price. China-based NIO also saw deliveries about 4.7% below expectations while being up 42% compared to the same quarter in 2021. The stock had its price target cut 4.8% to $40 from $42, though that still offers a 60% upside. What Drives Ecosystems To Instability? | MIT News | Massachusetts Institute Of Technology – MIT News https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/what-drives-ecosystems-to-instability-mit-news-massachusetts-institute-of-technology-mit-news/ Trying to decipher all of the factors that influence the behavior of complex ecological communities can be a daunting task. However, MIT researchers have now shown that the behavior of these ecosystems can be predicted based on just two pieces of information: the number of species in the community and how strongly they interact with each other. In studies of bacteria grown in the lab, the researchers were able to define three states of ecological communities, and calculated the conditions necessary for them to move from one state to another. These findings allowed the researchers to create a “phase diagram” for ecosystems, similar to the diagrams physicists use to describe the conditions that control the transition of water from solid to liquid to gas. “What’s amazing and wonderful about a phase diagram is that it summarizes a great deal of information in a very simple form,” says Jeff Gore, a professor of physics at MIT. “We can trace out a boundary that predicts the loss of stability and the onset of fluctuations of a population.” Gore is the senior author of the study, which appears today in Science. Jiliang Hu, an MIT graduate student, is the lead author of the paper. Other authors include Daniel Amor, a former MIT postdoc; Matthieu Barbier, a researcher at the Plant Health Institute at the University of Montpellier, France; and Guy Bunin, a professor of physics at the Israel Institute of Technology. Population dynamics The dynamics of natural ecosystems are difficult to study because while scientists can make observations about how species interact with each other, they usually can’t do controlled experiments in the wild. Gore’s lab specializes in using microbes such as bacteria and yeast to analyze interspecies interactions in a controlled way, in hopes of learning more about how natural ecosystems behave. In recent years, his lab has demonstrated how competitive and cooperative behavior affect populations, and has identified early warning signs of population collapse. During that time, his lab has gradually built up from studying one or two species at a time to larger scale ecosystems. As they worked up to studying larger communities, Gore became interested in trying to test some of the predictions that theoretical physicists have made regarding the dynamics of large, complex ecosystems. One of those predictions was that ecosystems move through phases of varying stability based on the number of species in the community and the degree of interaction between species. Under this framework, the type of interaction — predatory, competitive, or cooperative — doesn’t matter. Only the strength of the interaction matters. To test that prediction, the researchers created communities ranging from two to 48 species of bacteria. For each community, the researchers controlled the number of species by forming different synthetic communities with different sets of species. They were also able to strengthen the interactions between species by increasing the amount of food available, which causes populations to grow larger and can also lead to environmental changes such as increased acidification. “In order to see phase transitions in the lab, it really is necessary to have experimental communities where you can turn the knobs yourself and make quantitative measurements of what’s happening,” Gore says. The results of these experimental manipulations confirmed that the theories had correctly predicted what would happen. Initially, each community existed in a phase called “stable full existence,” in which all species coexist without interfering with each other. As either the number of species or interactions between them were increased, the communities entered a second phase, known as “stable partial coexistence.” In this phase, populations remain stable, but some species became extinct. The overall community remained in a stable state, meaning that the population returns to a state of equilibrium after some species go extinct. Finally, as the number of species or strength of interactions increased even further, the communities entered a third phase, which featured more dramatic fluctuations in population. The ecosystems became unstable, meaning that the populations persistently fluctuate over time. While some extinctions occurred, these ecosystems tended to have a larger overall fraction of surviving species. Predicting behavior Using this data, the researchers were able to draw a phase diagram that describes how ecosystems change based on just two factors: number of species and strength of interactions between them. This is analogous to how physicists are able to describe changes in the behavior of water based on only two conditions: temperature and pressure. Detailed knowledge of the exact speed and position of each molecule of water is not needed. “While we cannot access all biological mechanisms and parameters in a complex ecosystem, we demonstrate that its diversity and dynamics may be emergent phenomena that can be predicted from just a few aggregate properties of the ecological community: species pool size and statistics of interspecies interactions,” Hu says. The creation of this kind of phase diagram could help ecologists make predictions about what might be happening in natural ecosystems such as forests, even with very little information, because all they need to know is the number of species and how much they interact. “We can make predictions or statements about what the community is going to do, even in the absence of detailed knowledge of what’s going on,” Gore says. “We don’t even know which species are helping or hurting which other species. These predictions are based purely on the statistical distribution of the interactions within this complex community.” The researchers are now studying how the flow of new species between otherwise isolated populations (similar to island ecosystems) affects the dynamics of those populations. This could help to shed light on how islands are able to maintain species diversity even when extinctions occur. The research was funded, in part, by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Schmidt Polymath Award, and the Israel Science Foundation.

According to KCRG, Zach Hale, originally from Cedar Rapids, is an electrician and during the winter months, he lives and works in Florida. Sadly, Hurricane Ian took out his workshop in Fort Myers but he’s thankful that everything he lost, he’s able to replace. As someone who’s been through a previous natural disaster that destroyed his camper, Hale told KCRG, he believes that’s why so many Iowans are helping him to rebuild Florida. The airline said it will allow one pet per person on board with weight up to 7 kg and in the first phase only domesticated cats and dogs will be allowed in the cabin. 2. Air India Small domestic pets such as dogs, cats and birds are allowed on Air India domestic flights in the cabin or in cargo hold at owner’s risk. However, such carriage is subject to approval of the commander of the flight after verification of valid health and rabies vaccination certificates of the pet. Rules: The pet must be carried in soft ventilated bags/kennel in the prescribed size, which is not more than 18” x 18” x 12”. A moisture absorbent mat must be placed in the container for cleanliness. The weight of the pet including the container should not exceed 5 kg for carriage in the cabin. Larger pets will be carried in the cargo hold. Dogs and cats must be at least 8 weeks of age to travel in the airline and pregnant pets will not be accepted. A maximum of two pets are permitted in cabin per flight, one in the last row of First/Business class and one in the last row of Economy class. The pet dog must be properly muzzled and leashed and the Pets/Guide Dogs will not be allowed to occupy a passenger seat. Documentation required for international travel An official health certificate from the country of origin certifying that the pet is free from clinical sign and symptoms of all infectious and contagious diseases including rabies, distemper and leptospirosis etc is needed. All entry permits and other documents required by countries of entry, for transit of pets. A No-Objection Certificate for carriage on the pet on board by the airline. An official health certificate of the dog and Cat (three months of age and older) indicating that they are vaccinated against rabies more than one month, but within 12 months prior to actual embarkation. All other vaccination record/detail shall be officially certified in the official Health Certificate. The name of owner in the official health certificate of the pet must be same as the name mentioned in the flight ticket. Passenger’s booking reference has a remark indicating that he/she will be travelling with a pet. Air India will not be responsible if the pets are refused entry into or passage through any country or territory. Charges Carrying a pet will incur an additional charge and will not be included in the Free Baggage Allowance (even if the passenger has no other baggage). The total weight of the pet, the container and food carried per container will be charged. However, a Trained Guide Dog for impaired passengers will not be charged when it is properly muzzled and leashed and if the dog is trained to lead a passenger with impaired vision /hearing. He certainly might score on the Colts — a RB has done that to Indy in each of its past three — but he’s tough to call a must-start. At best he’s a flex. I’d rather start Kareem Hunt, A.J. Dillon and Rhamondre Stevenson.” TNF Preview: Colts at Broncos All lines from Caesars Sportsbook Line: Broncos -3.5; 42 O/U Implied totals: Broncos 22.75-Colts 19.25 Both teams lost their starting running backs last week, with Javonte Williams out for the season with a torn ACL and Jonathan Taylor ruled out for this one with an ankle injury. I wrote about Taylor being ruled out here, but long story short, Nyheim Hines is an RB2 for me and I don’t really have much interest in anyone else in that backfield. I’ll get to my expectations for Melvin Gordon shortly, but it’ll be interesting to see what these two teams do with their most effective runners out. Neither offense has lived up to expectations to date with their new quarterbacks, but I’m still starting Michael Pittman and Courtland Sutton as WR2s, with Jerry Jeudy a solid WR3.  Toughest lineup decision: Melvin Gordon — Start. It was frustrating to see Gordon taking snaps and valuable touches away from Javonte Williams, but with Williams out of the picture, it’s OK to acknowledge that Gordon is still a pretty good running back in his own right — when he can hang on to the football. There’s some risk in starting him, because there’s risk of a benching if he fumbles again, but I basically just slid him right into the Williams spot of my projections without downgrading my expectations much at all. In fact, you could argue Gordon might have more upside than Williams did, simply because Mike Boone probably isn’t as good as Gordon as a backup. Gordon absolutely could be a top-12 RB the rest of the way if he keeps the ball off the ground.  Injuries: Jonathan Taylor (ankle) — Out. Nyheim Hines is an RB2 for me this week … Shaquille Leonard (concussion/nose) — Out. That makes Gordon an even better start. Week 5 Injury Watch The Big News: Kyle Pitts was unable to practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury, which might explain his limited role in Week 4’s win over the Browns. Pitts played just 62% of the snaps in the game, but that number was down to 46% in the second half. Not that it would be good news that Pitt is dealing with an injury, but at least it would mean he wasn’t limited arbitrarily. He has been one of the most frustrating players in Fantasy, and this definitely doesn’t help his near-term outlook. But, if Pitts is active, I’m going to have a tough decision to make in the league where I have him and T.J. Hockenson – if the Lions injury situation isn’t improved, it might be a Hockenson week. I’ll have a full breakdown of the injury report in Friday’s newsletter along with my previews of each game, but here’s a look at the first practice participation reports of the week. FP = Full participation in practice. LP = Limited participation.  DNP = Did not practice.  Injuries to watch for Week 5 It’s not clear what these injuries mean quite yet.  Tom Brady (shoulder/finger) – DNP. It’s actually pretty surprising to see Jones limited to kick off the week, and that seems like a pretty good sign for his chances of playing Sunday morning against the Packers. He’s not a recommended starter for Fantasy, but with Tyrod Taylor dealing with a concussion (he wasn’t able to practice Wednesday), you’d prefer not to have Davis Webb out there, at least for Saquon Barkley‘s sake.   Zach Wilson (ankle) – LP. It’s not clear if this is something to worry about at this point, but we do at least know that Joe Flacco wouldn’t be a downgrade for the Jets skill players if he had to start.  Alvin Kamara (rib) – LP. Kamara’s inactive in Week 4 came as a surprise, so hopefully he’ll be able to go this week. He was limited all week last week, so we really have no idea what this means for his chances.  Rashaad Penny (shoulder) – DNP. Penny met with the media Wednesday and didn’t mention the injury, so hopefully that’s a sign that it isn’t much to be concerned about. It bears watching, and Ken Walker would be in the RB3 discussion vs. the Saints if Penny is out.  Breece Hall (knee) – LP. This is a new one for Hall, so it bears watching. This would be bad timing for Hall, who was used like a No. 1 RB for the first time in Week 4. Hopefully this doesn’t derail a breakout. Gartner expects 25 per cent of people to spend at least one hour a day inside the metaverse by 2026. Today, the metaverse is an immersive virtual world made possible by the early use of virtual reality and augmented reality headsets and devices. It functions as a network of 3D virtual worlds brought together by some form of social connections. Dependence on augmented and virtual reality and immersive experiences are key aspects of the metaverse. This requires a high level of graphics capability and portability of the headsets. Innovation is underway in this area, namely around lightweight wireless headsets, with retina display pixel density, at affordable costs. The metaverse will not mature before 2030 according to Gartner. However, its impact, similar to the Internet is highly disruptive in the way humans and businesses interact that nobody should wait till 2030 before transforming themselves or their business. There are at least three areas to consider and evaluate: 01. The first is how entities inside the metaverse would engage with one another or how they would interact. 02. The second is how dynamic content will be displayed in real life inside the metaverse, at a certain point of time, at a certain location, and to a defined set of people. 03. The third is the type of scalable infrastructure required to support a mature metaverse, and this type of technology platform does not fully exist today. It is for this reason that future service providers and technology product developers who plan to be significant players by the time metaverse is mature, have no option but to plan, build, and scale, in parallel and without delay. Similar to the arrival of PCs and the Internet in the last two decades, technology and service providers will build on available and emerging technologies. As the technologies move from startup and early growth to mature growth and decline, so will their products. New businesses will arrive built on the next wave of emerging technologies, and the cycle will repeat itself. This has always happened for every innovative and disruptive technology cycle in modern civilisation, and there is no reason to believe that this will not happen with the metaverse as well. Technology vendors building new products for the metaverse need to monitor opportunities for innovation and disruption along the following lines: Build a continuous pipeline of innovative products to carry through the multiple cycles of technology. Leverage the combination or convergence of emerging technologies in these products. Avoid getting carried away with the idea of a killer application being a silver bullet to generate a torrent of growth. Identify how products can support high-value use cases like wayfinding and navigation applications meant for augmented reality. Start developing an ecosystem of partners to build on your standards of content and services. Also identify and support leading use cases such as: Higher education and specialised areas such as medicine, military. Virtual events such as webinars and product launches. Providing retailers and e-tailers with immersive shopping. Augmented workspaces for employees especially those working remotely or in hybrid. Engaging with social media in the metaverse, will allow users to create their three-dimensional avatars. Since this virtual world is in the early stages of development, technology vendors need to be aware of the risks while investing in innovation and product development to support emerging business models in the metaverse. It’s well worth following in order to see some brilliant curiosities. We’ve collected some of our favourites for you to enjoy.  A curious orange Here’s a neat little thing. A set of perfume bottles that are designed to look like an orange. Each segment is an individual bottle with a total of eight being held inside the skin.  A multi-purpose radiator From the Victorian era comes an invention that’s ideal for multitasking. This is a radiator but one that also doubles as a bread warmer.  Others have suggested that you could also use it to dry your shoes out or use it as a cat bed.  A bonkers tricycle Here’s a bonkers tricycle from the 1930s. Designs back then were bright, bold and in-your-face. Would we see kids riding this sort of thing down the street now? Probably not. Tiny books within books Book lovers are bound to appreciate this one. In 1757 a bookbinder in the Netherlands apparently made a tiny bookshelf with miniature books and nestled it away inside another bigger book. Weird and wonderful.  Efficient reading If you like multitasking then you’ll surely love this. It’s a 300-year-old contraption for opening (and reading) multiple books at once. Why just read one when you can read seven? In-car coffee machine You’ve probably marvelled at the various accessories you’ll find conveniently installed in modern motor vehicles. But car manufacturers have been putting things inside cars for years.  In the late 1950s, Volkswagen was apparently installing optional coffee machines in its vehicles. Convenient, but probably not terribly safe.  Complex wiring We love seeing how technology has changed over the decades. And this photo from the late 1950s shows what could now be seen as a “primitive computer”, but at the time was a marvel of IBM engineering.  Retro radios Radios might not have been as fancy as modern music tech or even as the phone in your pocket but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t look great. Here are some awesome-looking Art Deco radios from the 1930s.  Razzle Dazzle camoflauge You’ve probably heard about modern stealth technology used on military aeroplanes and vehicles but have you ever seen Razzle Dazzle camouflage? This was a type of camouflage painted on allied ships during WW1 to confuse the enemy. It was inspired by British marine artist Norman Wilkinson and was intended to make it difficult to range the ships accurately. Thus making them harder to hit.  Double wide limo Jay Ohrberg is famous for creating some pretty bonkers cars including experimental vehicles for TV shows and movies. This is one of his creations, a “double wide” limo. Not really practical, but certainly curious.  Casio EG-5 Cassette Player This awesome creation dates back to the 1980s. It’s a guitar/cassette player and recorder combo. Ideal if you want to jam out and record your own music at the same time? Weird TV Here’s a weird and wonderful Philco Predicta Television from the 1950s. Sure, it might be tiny compared to modern TVs but its design is certainly quirky.  Reusable shopping list Using a piece of paper and pen to write a shopping list is so archaic. But using your phone to note it down is a bit too dull too. How about this reusable shopping list instead.  Air conditioned lawn mower Some of these inventions are clearly way beyond their time and perhaps verge on being a bit unnecessary.  Like this ride-on lawnmower that also has air conditioning. (Kitco News) – The European Union has introduced a new set of sanctions against Russia in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which includes a complete ban on cross-border crypto payments between Russians and the EU.  According to a statement released by the European Commission, “The existing prohibitions on crypto assets have been tightened by banning all crypto-asset wallets, accounts, or custody services, irrespective of the amount of the wallet (previously up to €10,000 was allowed).” Other services that can no longer be provided to the government of Russia or legal residents include IT consultancy, legal advisory, architecture and engineering services.  The new sanctions package follows the move by Russia to formally annex four regions in Ukraine that are currently under Russian control – a move that the EU called a “sham” referendum.  Previous sanctions simply put a cap of 10,000 euros on crypto payments from Russian to EU wallets, but these new measures implement a total ban on cross-border crypto payments. This was done to “further deprive the Kremlin’s military and industrial complex of key components and technologies.” This move follows the official approval of cross-border crypto payments by Russian authorities, which was revealed on Sept. 22.  On Monday, Ivan Chebeskov, director of the financial policy department of Russia’s Ministry of Finance, announced that the government plans to allow international settlements in digital assets for all industries without restriction.  “We are going to allow international settlements in cryptocurrencies for any industries without restrictions,” Chebeskov said in an interview. Chebeskov noted that while the Bank of Russia has sought to limit the integration of digital assets in the country and prefers to focus on the digital ruble, the Ministry of Finance “advocates the creation in Russia of a full-fledged infrastructure for the circulation of digital currencies.” “We believe that we need a local crypto infrastructure. First of all, to protect the interests of citizens. Because now those who trade their digital currencies on crypto exchanges are limited. Secondly, to control when the digital currency is used legally, and when – no,” Chebeskov added. The Bank of Russia previously reported that it plans to start testing the digital ruble with members of the public beginning in April 2023. Businesses secured the right to add a surcharge, which they must clearly disclose, to credit card transactions as part of a class action lawsuit against MasterCard, Visa and Canadian banks.  A survey by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business found that close to one in five businesses are considering adding a surcharge to offset the merchant fees they pay for credit card processing. The CFIB says these fees can eat up to 2.5 per cent of a business’s total sales. But the group says consumer-facing businesses are less likely to pass on costs over concerns they will lose customers, so credit card surcharges will be more common among businesses that sell to other businesses. Research by the Bank of Canada last year found that consumers already pay extra for the privilege of credit card use, as most merchants pass on the cost of credit card processing in their retail pricing. The working paper found that consumers likely pay anywhere from $17 to $52 a month in credit card processing costs, passed along in the form of increased prices.

One of the things that’s great about Matterverse is that it’s drag and drop. It’s very user friendly. You don’t need to be a developer to actually create these kinds of things. So the barrier to entry is quite low for those who don’t have this kind of experience,” he said. But it can look better as Matterverse renders the 3D images in the cloud using WebRTC and sends video down so that the processing power of a mobile phone or tablet will be adequate in rendering cool-looking 3D graphics, Pang said. The mobile device will do something simple like render the user interface. The heart of the city has a leaderboard. You can build on your own virtual land and save a copy. Each piece of land is a programmable non-fungible token (NFT). You can perform certain tasks in he world to claim a piece of land, as Pang said he doesn’tlike financial speculation. Building on the land is easy. There will be places where you can hold meetings and post pictures or make donations and view NFT art in a gallery. You can also build a store in a virtual mall. Matterverse wants to make it easy for players to create worlds. “This is a sandbox environment that anyone can create. This is just place for you to have fun. You can create a virtual storefront or showroom,” he said. “You can create minigames and embed them into the pen world and it as interactive as possible.” If you want to do something fancy, Pang said that is doable as well. “The limit is only your creativity,” he said. For now, it’s a small metaverse. The company has a team of 10 people and it has raised close to $1 million. The team got started in 2021. In August, Matterverse made some tools available and it has about 1,700 downloads and around 100 active developers working on it. “Our plan is to work with all the creators that we have right now and learn and explore,” Pang said. “Hopefully they can host events where they will make money from the content they’re creating.” But the company is confident. “In the upcoming years, all brands or businesses will each have their own virtual space,” Pang said. In addition, the annual pay for workers has also tipped by 7.8% for those who stayed at their present jobs, while the pay for those who change jobs increased immensely by 15.8%. With these developments, the economy is showing no signs of slowing down contrary to what analysts say. Rise In Unemployment: Does It Affect Bitcoin? Despite the GDP being in the red for both Q1 and Q2, the US labor market is seen to flourish. But, the reduction in the number of job openings is a red flag that the US economy could be seeing a potential rise in unemployment cases in the next couple of months. Truman has been unveiled inside the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. And it’s been a long time coming. Whether micro-offenses are eventually uncovered to sufficiently cancel Harry Truman, we’ll just have to wait and see. But in this era of political toxicity, it was refreshing to hear politicians from both sides of the aisle heap praise on this particular man from Missouri. The Truman statue will be the 10th presidential tribute standing in the rotunda. Mr. Truman’s likeness is flanked by those of Presidents George Washington and Ulysses Grant, forming quite the exclusive statuary ZIP code. News of statues these days generally depicts their toppling. But this bronze work of art will represent one of Missouri’s two statues at the U.S. Capitol. Each state gets two of them to honor famous natives, and Truman’s will replace one of longtime Missouri U.S. Sen. Thomas Hart Benton, which had stood since 1899. Arkansas is sending two new statues to Washington, too–worthy subjects, both: Daisy Lee Gatson Bates and Johnny Cash. The Arkansas statues will sit inside the National Statuary Hall. President Truman, however, will reside in the ritziest neighborhood for U.S. statues, the rotunda. A worthy address for a man who had the presidency thrust upon him at the most critical time the world had yet known. A veteran, farmer, small businessman and county judge who represented Missouri in the U.S. Senate for 10 years, Mr. Truman had served as vice president for just 82 days when FDR died; World War II was all but over in Europe, but still raged in the Pacific. His first few years in office were as eventful as any in history. President Truman’s decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan in August of 1945, just months after being sworn in as president, ended the war. In its aftermath, Mr. Truman was instrumental in the creation of the United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He desegregated U.S. armed forces and the federal workforce; he recognized the state of Israel; and he helped lead the world’s response to the growing threat of the Soviet Union. At the unveiling ceremony, Clifford Truman Daniels, Give-Em-Hell-Harry’s grandson, said of all his grandfather’s accomplishments, the most significant was “reminding us that a farmer, a citizen soldier, a small businessman can rise to the highest office in this land and do a better job of it than almost anyone else.” Harry Truman will be remembered for his decision to drop the bombs. Which was a horrible decision to make, with unspeakable results, and the only worse decision we can think of is not making it. The A-bombs saved hundreds of thousands of American lives. In 1948, addressing fellow Democrats in Milwaukee, the man himself explained the rationale behind that decision: “As president of the United States, I had the fateful responsibility of deciding whether or not to use this weapon for the first time. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make. But the president cannot duck hard problems–he cannot pass the buck. I made the decision after discussions with the ablest men in our government, and after long and prayerful consideration. I decided that the bomb should be used to end the war quickly and save countless lives–Japanese as well as American.” The buck indeed stopped with President Truman. A refreshing concept, when one thinks about it. And now, a bronze cast of the 33rd president of the United States appropriately stands in the Capitol rotunda, next to other great leaders of our nation.

It’s for everyone, and it is truly something you need to experience in your lifetime. I’ve had the good fortune to have been many times, and I would go again tomorrow, because for me it never gets old – it’s more than a once-in-a-lifetime trip – but at least once! The classic is East Africa, Kenya and Tanzania, but if I were planning your trip and you had never been, I would suggest South Africa, or South Africa and Botswana. South Africa has a lot more non-wildlife appeal, wine country, amazing food, beaches, golf, classic luxury trains, and Cape Town is one of the world’s great cities. Southern Africa is easier to get to and has better luxury safari lodges and much better luxury non-safari hotels and resorts. Botswana probably has the very best concertation of pure wildlife viewing and some of the best lodges of the eight marquee African safari countries I’ve visited. However, East Africa has two unique appeals, the annual great migration across the Serengeti, one of earth’s premier natural wonders, and proximity to Rwanda and its unique gorilla trekking. Gorillas are not found in the same places as all the other desirable African animals and for many travelers gorilla trekking (you have to go on foot to see them) is the single most amazing wildfire experience on earth, and a Bucket List trip in its own right. But it lasts only a day or two, so it is best combined with a conventional East African safari. Do It Best: Micato Safaris is my pick for making this dream trip a dream come true – by a mile. Getty Easter Island, Chile: People ask me all the time what the best place I’ve ever been is, and it’s kind of stupid question that can’t have an answer in the apples to oranges world of travel. But on the rare occasion when I am asked what the most interesting place I’ve ever been is, I don’t hesitate to say Easter Island. It’s really like nothing else you can imagine, a very remote, almost magical tropical island out of King Kong, where the entire civilization vanished mysteriously, and despite years and years of scientific research, we still don’t know much about the culture, the people or why they vanished. We do know they left behind the mysterious Moai, towering stone statues whose movement over long distances and placement rivals the inconceivable construction of the pyramids in terms of “how on earth did they do that?” Easter Island is a widely overlooked once-in-a-lifetime trip (though I’d gladly go back) that is best done from Santiago, Chile, in turn a great overlooked weekend city destination with amazing food and wine. Until very recently the best place to stay – by a wide margin – was Explora Rapa Nui. Explora is a personal favorite brand of mine, a Chilean-based group of world-class, eco-sensitive, all-inclusive adventure lodges in places like Patagonia, the Atacama Desert and Machu Pichhu that is justifiably renowned for the excellence of its full-time, in-house guide staff. They lead guests on a huge slate of daily outdoor adventures, all included in rates along with excellent food and wine. Explora Rapa Nui is still a great choice, but was joined just last month by the new Nayara Hangaroa. Nayara is a Columbian-owned luxury eco-lodge chain with half a dozen locations in Central and South America. I have not been to any but they have an excellent reputation. getty Skiing Japan: If you don’t ski, Japan is still an awesome vacation destination, exceedingly rich in culture, history, natural wonders and arguably the very best food country on the planet. But if you ski, it’s even better, a no-brainer – they get more snow than any other place in the world, and it is dry, light perfect powder. There are a huge array of resorts, but I especially like the Nagano area, a Winter Olympics venue which has a far more local Japanese feel, with lots of traditional inns (ryokans) and hot spring towns (onsens). Nagano is also accessible by train from Tokyo, and relatively close to Kyoto, so it can be combined into an epic Japan trip. For American skiers, the northern island of Hokkaido has been more popular, but that’s only because it is what the ski and outdoor magazines and films have covered with a close-minded focus. Hokkaido does get slightly more snow than Nagano, but the difference is irrelevant given that they both get twice as much snow (or more) as other top destinations like Utah and the Alps. Niseko is the biggest and most popular resort on Hokkaido, and has lots of big modern full-service hotels including a new ultra-luxe Ritz-Carlton Reserve. It makes for an easy turnkey ski vacation, but feels very Westernized, more like going to Whistler than Japan (think lots of burgers and tacos), and because it’s easy to fly directly to Sapporo (yet another Winter Olympics host), less conducive to combining with other highlights of Japan. Do It Best: Scout Ski is a boutique ski travel planning service that covers the world but specializes in Japan, and specializes in the U.S, U.K., Australian and New Zealand markets, very good and very knowledgeable. You can have a fantastic golf trip to Scotland without playing the vaunted Old Course at St. Andrews, but if you are talking Bucket List, you sort of have to do it, and once you are there, there are so many great courses immediately around the area – Muirfield, Kingsbarns, New Course, Dumbarnie Links, and more, that’s it’s a waste of travel time to try to zip around the country hitting all the top “must-plays.” Unless you are chartering helicopters there are just too many of them. I’d do an extended stay in St. Andrews and then tack on one other key stop, like the North/Highlands (Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart, Nairn, Brora); the Southwest/Ayrshire Coast (Royal Troon, Prestwick, Dundonald); Aberdeen (Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay); or for the adventurous, the Kintyre Peninsula (Machrihanish, Machrihanish Dunes) with a possible extension to Islay (Machrie). Do It Best: Securing an Old Course tee time in advance is quite tricky but key to making the other pieces of the puzzle work, and the complex logistics and many moving parts of a Scottish dream golf trip are best left to very experienced pros.
