Suzlon Energy Founder Tulsi Tanti Passes Away | Business News – The Indian Express https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/suzlon-energy-founder-tulsi-tanti-passes-away-business-news-the-indian-express/ Tulsi Tanti, the founder chairman and managing director of Suzlon Energy and a renowned expert on renewable energy, died due to cardiac arrest on Saturday evening. Tanti, 64, who was also the chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association, was on his way to Pune from Ahmedabad when he suffered a cardiac arrest, a company official said. He is survived by his daughter Nidhi and son Pranav. In a regulatory filing, the company said, “With profound sadness, we inform you of the untimely demise of Tulsi R.Tanti, the Founder, the Chairman & Managing Director, and one of the promoters of Suzlon Energy Limited… on 1st October 2022. Tanti suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away the same day.” In this difficult time, the company continues to be supported by its highly experienced board of directors and senior management who are both able and committed to take Tanti’s legacy forward and realise his vision for the firm, it added. Suzlon Energy is in the process of raising Rs 1,200 crore through a rights issue. The official said Tanti was on his way home in Pune after holding a series of meetings in Ahmedabad regarding the rights issue. Shri Tulsi Tanti was a pioneering business leader who contributed to India’s economic progress and strengthened our nation’s efforts to further sustainable development. Pained by his untimely demise. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti. — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) October 2, 2022 Tanti was widely known as the visionary who pioneered the renewables revolution in India. He spearheaded the wind energy revolution in India with the founding of Suzlon Energy in 1995. He envisioned the opportunity in the Indian renewable energy industry at a time when the global wind energy market was dominated by international players and characterised by expensive and complicated technologies that were largely unviable for traditional businesses. Instituting a new business model, he conceptualised an end-to-end solution to create realistic avenues for businesses to ‘Go Green’ and thus emerged as a strategic partner in developing sustainable businesses. Under Tanti’s leadership, Suzlon emerged as a prominent player in the global renewable energy market. His vision led to Suzlon setting up R&D centres in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and India that employ over 200 engineers.

City To Roll Out Mobile Health Clinic | News, Sports, Jobs – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/city-to-roll-out-mobile-health-clinic-news-sports-jobs-warren-tribune-chronicle/ WARREN — The city will purchase a $230,000 neighborhood health clinic van to provide medical services to residents in their neighborhoods instead of waiting for them to come to the Warren City Health District offices. The new vehicle will allow the city’s health district to do preventive screenings, such as taking blood pressure; conduct glucose and cholesterol testing; provide flu, COVID-19 and other vaccines; offer HIV, STD and hepatitis C testing; as well as promote healthy living. “With St. Joseph (Warren) Hospital moving, there may be some people that feel they won’t have access to needed services,” Cheryl Strother, director of nursing at the Warren City Health District, said. “We already know we are not reaching all of those who are in need of medical assistance in the city because when we participate in health fairs in churches, barbershops and other locations, there often are crowds of people who attend. They do not come to our clinic.” Mercy Health announced in May that it will move St. Joseph Warren Hospital from Eastland Avenue in the city to a new 62-acre campus next to Kent State University at Trumbull campus in Champion. The new 400,000-square-foot facility — the first new hospital built in the Mahoning Valley since Mercy constructed St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital in 2007 — is planned to have 241 beds and will provide full inpatient and outpatient services, plus have room to grow. Also planned is a medical office building adjacent to the hospital that will offer specialist care. On Eastland Avenue SE, the present facility will be torn down, but Mercy will continue to maintain the campus and offer outpatient services at the medical office building next to the hospital. Strother said people — especially in minority communities — have not been coming to the city’s health clinic, and they feel they will not have access to services once the current St. Joseph is closed. “We want to establish a level of trust,” she said. “We will do this by taking services to them. We want them to know they are seen and we’re interested in providing for their needs by bringing services to where they are. “A lot of times, people will be more open to providing information about their health concerns if they are met where they are,” Strother said. Funding for the vehicle is expected to come from a $184,149 grant from the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation and a $75,000 donation from Warren Councilman Ronald C. White, D-7th Ward, who will provide funds from the $500,000 that each council member has been allocated in American Rescue Plan funds. With this contribution, White will have $361,900 remaining of his ward’s ARP money allocation remaining. In addition, the health department has been approved for another $75,000 grant from a National Association of County and City Health Officials grant award — Partnering for Vaccine Equity project — to address inequities in COVID-19 and influenza vaccination coverage among racial and ethnic minority adults. “One of the greatest benefits of mobile clinics is they make services easily accessible to people who would otherwise be unable to receive them,” she said. “The fact that these clinics are mobile means that those who are unable to leave their homes and walk, ride or drive all the way to health clinics and hospitals can have these services brought to their doorsteps.” The idea of a mobile van came while Strother was applying for a grant that showed a high social vulnerability index in different census tracts around the city. Strother recalled working on a similar, but smaller, version of a mobile health clinic in the mid-1990s, while she worked at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. “I’m not aware of anything like this in Mahoning and Trumbull counties,” she said. College Football Scores Rankings Highlights: USC Oregon Cruise As Pac-12s Best Handle Business CBS Sports
College Football Scores, Rankings, Highlights: USC, Oregon Cruise As Pac-12’s Best Handle Business – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/college-football-scores-rankings-highlights-usc-oregon-cruise-as-pac-12s-best-handle-business-cbs-sports/ See New Posts Pinned Pac-12 teams handle business No. 15 Washington lost last night against UCLA, but No. 6 USC, No. 12 Utah and No. 13 Oregon all handled business today at home against ranked conference foes. While Pac-12 After Dark weirdness is certainly fun, it’s a good thing for the Pac-12 that the league didn’t suffer any crazy upsets today. And UCLA’s win over Washington was hardly an upset. The Bruins are unbeaten and likely to make their debut in the AP Top 25 tomorrow. Pinned USC pulling away Mid 4Q: USC 35, Arizona State 17 It’s been a nice bounce-back performance for Caleb Williams after the Trojans struggled offensively last week in a low-scoring win over Oregon State. He’s thrown for 335 yards and run for 42 more. Three touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. This was just a 21-17 game at halftime, but the Trojans have shown some poise in the second half. Pinned Oregon dominating Half: Oregon 31, Stanford 3 The Ducks have the Cardinal more than tripled in total yards, 324-102, and are in total command. Oregon is averaging 11.8 yards per rush as Bucky Irving is at 90 yards on just eight carries. Bo Nix also has 62 yards on the ground for Oregon to go with 111 yards passing. Pinned Paging USC’s defense Start 3Q: USC 21, Arizona State 17 Hello, USC’s defense. Are you present tonight? The halftime clock was the only thing that kept the Sun Devils from scoring in the first half. Emory Jones looked like the best version of himself, despite the fact that he’s got a gimpy hamstring. Trojans may be able to score at will, but if they’re going to cover that 26.5 point spread, they’ll need some stops. Pinned Pac-12 update Late 2Q: USC 21, Arizona State 10 USC just surged ahead 21-10, but the Sun Devils have put up a fight so far. Arizona State scored on its first two possessions, and USC has scored on its first three. Offense running the show thus far. Late 1Q: Oregon 3, Stanford 0 The Ducks Got a field goal on their first drive and have kept Stanford from doing much early. Bucky Irving already has 78 yards rushing for the Ducks. Pinned Georgia Tech gets huge win Final: GT 26, Pitt 21 The Panthers provided some late drama, scoring a quick touchdown and having a chance to win the game within the final minute, but ultimately Georgia Tech picks up its second win of the season. The Yellow Jackets broke a hapless streak, too, notching their first win over an AP ranked opponent since 2016.   In the first game after coach Geoff Collins was fired, the Yellow Jackets showed incredible resolve by going up 6-0 early. Pitt answered with a second-quarter touchdown, but the Panthers were kept out of the end zone again until the final two minutes of the game. Though Pitt did put up two touchdowns late, Georgia Tech was able to hang on.  Pinned Georgia Tech surprising No. 24 Pitt  4Q: GT 19, Pitt 7 The first game of the post-Geoff Collins era is off to a pleasantly surprising start for Georgia Tech, which leads Pitt 19-7 with only minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. A goal line stand from the Panthers prevented the Yellow Jackets from extending the lead even further, but they’ll need two quick scores in the final few minutes to make a miraculous comeback. It’s been a sloppy day for Pitt with three turnovers, two of which were fumbles. For a program that’s suffered plenty as of late, this would be a nice win for Georgia Tech as it tries to hit the reset button and move forward through the season on a positive note.  Pinned LSU comes back against Auburn Final: LSU 21, Auburn 17 LSU went down 14-0 against Auburn in the first half, but went on a shocking 21-3 run down the stretch to beat the rival Tigers. LSU quarterback Jaydon Daniels struggled mightily through the air, finishing with just 80 yards passing, but ran for 59 yards and a score to create enough offense. Robby Ashford had a great game for Auburn with 337 yards passing and two scores, but both came within the first 16 minutes of the game. The ending was absolutely crazy, as most LSU/Auburn games are. Auburn threw two interceptions down the stretch, while each team traded fumbles. Ultimately, it resulted in zero total points, which was enough for LSU to hold on.  Pinned Big man TD UTEP defensive end Jadrion Taylor had the play of his life as he converted a 100-yard scoop-and-score to ice a 41-35 win over Charlotte. The 49ers faced second-and-goal from the 2-yard line, but the running back lost the ball falling into the end zone and was picked up by the 246-pound Taylor and returned the full length of the field. It ended up being a major play as the Miners beat Charlotte on the road and moved to 3-3 and 1-1 in Conference USA play.  Pinned Missouri ball The Tigers get the football to start the third quarter. Will be interesting to see what approach Eli Drinkwitz takes. Aside from a 63-yard run from Cody Schrader, the ground game hasn’t been particularly effective. Gotta think Georgia is going to blitz like crazy after a rather vanilla defensive approach in the first half. Can some of these Mizzou WRs become stars tonight? Dominic Lovett already has is catches, and five-star true freshman Luther Burden has a chance to shine under the national spotlight. Pinned Halftime notes Half: Missouri 16, Georgia 6 Stetson Bennett is just 10 of 24 passing, and the Bulldogs are averaging just three yards per rush. Essentially all of that rushing came on a single run from Kendall Milton that ended in a fumble. Just a stunning ball as the Tigers could become the first unranked team to beat a No. 1 ranked UGA squad since 1942.  Pinned Georgia on the board  Late 2Q: Missouri 13, Georgia 3 Georgia caps a 52-yard drive with a 40-yard field goal from Podlesny to get on the board. Stetson Bennett is just 5 of 14 for 90 yards, and the Bulldogs still have only four first downs. Their average yards per play is just 4.9, and Kendall Milton has run for -1 yards on the two attempts aside from the 35-yarder on which he fumbled in the first quarter. Pinned Clemson gets a FG Late 2Q: Clemson 6, NC State 3 Clemson’s once-promising drive stalls and results in a 46-yard field goal from B.T. Potter that puts the Tigers ahead. It’s been a defensive slog thus far, marked by long drives ending in field goals, so any points are to be appreciated here. Wolfpack have run just 17 plays with 5:47 remaining in the first half. Pinned Georgia in trouble Mid 2Q: Missouri 13, Georgia 0 After two fumbles and three punts, Georgia is in deep trouble at Missouri. The Tigers came to play on the defensive side, and Brady Cook is dealing. Mizzou has negative yardage in the run game, bu the top-ranked Bulldogs haven’t done much on the ground either. You would think Georgia will cut out the sloppy turnovers and get it figured out, but it does not look like the No. 1 team in the country thus far. Pinned Longhorns! Texas 14, West Virginia 0 Texas is bouncing back nicely so far following its heartbreaking loss at Texas Tech last week. It’s an early two-possession lead for the Longhorns after this Ja’Tavion Sanders TD grab from *checks notes* Xavier Worthy. Quinn Ewers won’t be back until next week, but Steve Sarkisian is getting creative in the meantime.  Pinned Georgia sluggish End 1Q: Missouri 3, Georgia 0 Georgia entered as 28-point favorites at Missouri, but the Bulldogs are looking sluggish so far. Three punts and a fumble on four possessions as Mizzou takes a lead into the second quarter. Stetson Bennett is just 1 for 4, and the only explosive play Georgia had in the quarter — a 35-yard run from Kendall Milton — resulted in a fumble. Seems the ‘Dawgs are playing about like they did in an uninspiring win over Kent State last week. Pinned Surprising start Early 2Q: Auburn 14, LSU 0 The Auburn offense has found life with Robby Ashford at quarterback. He’s 5 of 10 for 162 yards and two touchdowns early as Auburn leads against LSU. Jordan-Hare seems lit for this one, despite all the turmoil surrounding Bryan Harsin. We’ll see if they can sustain it, but his has been impressive so far from an Auburn team that entered as 8-point underdogs. Pinned Mississippi State crushes Texas A&M Final: Mississippi State 42, Texas A&M 24 Mississippi State took Texas A&M to the woodshed in a game that will almost certainly push the Bulldogs into the rankings, and the Aggies out. Quarterback Will Rogers threw for 329 yards and 3 touchdowns in another huge effort, with Rara Thomas exploding for 134 yards. The Aggies were miserable offensively again with zero first-half points. Receiver Moose Muhammad found some consistency in the second half, but it was primarily in garbage time. Mississippi State’s 4-1 start to the season is the best since Dak Prescott led the Bulldogs to the No. 1 overall ranking in 2014.  Pinned Alabama pulls away in the fourth Final: No. 2 Alabama 49, No. 20 Arkansas 26 The Razorbacks had a chance heading into the fourth quarter down five, but the Crimson Tide got 72-yard and 76-yard touchdown runs from star running back Jahmyr Gibbs, along with a 3-yard plunge from Jase McClellan to pull away. While they did get the win and cover on the road, starting quarterback Bryce Young suffered an injured shoulder late in the second quarter. Jalen Milroe came in and threw for 65 yards, tossed one touchdown, rushed for 91 yards and scored one touchdown on the ground. It’ll be interesting to what happens at the quarterback position this week heading into the matchup vs. Texas A&M. Pinned Deacs rebound Final: Wake Forest 31, Florida State 21 Wake Forest rebounds from the agony of last week’s loss to Clemson by knocking off previously unbeaten Florida State 31-21. There was more defense in this...

Perfume In The Metaverse? Beauty Brands Are Now Getting In The Game – The Star Online https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/perfume-in-the-metaverse-beauty-brands-are-now-getting-in-the-game-the-star-online/ Will we one day be able to wear perfume in the metaverse? It might seem impossible, but that’s not stopping brands from presenting their new scents in these parallel worlds. In fact, Armani Beauty is doing just that by teaming up with Fortnite to promote its new fragrance. A field of all possibilities, the metaverse now allows people to buy virtual fashion and accessories, to see exhibitions or to attend concerts. Read more: Vanity Fare: Fresh, radiant and bold fragrances to lift your mood But these new worlds at the frontier of reality are above all favoured by brands seeking to gain visibility among their prime target, the Gen-Z, which masters these worlds like no other – even if only a minority have actually set foot in them. As a result, some brands have decided to go big, pulling out all the stops to stage initiatives in places where consumers are actually present – that is, in the world of gaming, a form of metaverse that is enjoyed by billions of people around the world. Armani Beauty has now partnered with one of the most popular games, Fortnite, to promote its new men’s fragrance “Code”. Evidently, it’s not a question of testing the new fragrance online, which is impossible for now. Here, it’s about encouraging users to take part in an immersive experience called “Rewrite the Code” as a means of discovering the scent – in turn making as many people as possible want to try it – and buy it. “In a world where time flows backwards, players race through maze-like speed runs to collect the numbers needed to unlock the Armani Code building and the Armani Code Parfum bottle, in order to harness its magnetic power to put the world forwards again,” explains the brand on its Instagram account. Through this game, players have the opportunity to get acquainted with the bottle, the ingredients, and especially the scent’s wider universe. Creating their own world, or a themed space in the metaverse allows brands to present their new products, while also building customer loyalty, and even creating a community. Read more: What is a Brazilian manicure and why is it now a beauty fad? Brands like Balenciaga, Gucci, Hermes and Dior – among others – have understood this perfectly, and have all jumped into the world of gaming and, even more broadly, into these new virtual worlds. Indeed, these brands already have strong communities, and the metaverse can offer them many new possibilities. – AFP Relaxnews

Mind Your ZZZs… More So If You Are A Night Owl – DTNEXT https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/mind-your-zzzs-more-so-if-you-are-a-night-owl-dtnext/ Sleep deprivation in long run leads to Alzheimer’s: Expert Scientific research on Alzheimer’s patients has shown that sound sleep for seven to eight hours every day is absolutely essential. Sleep is the time for the restorative activity for the body and mind; the brain cleanses itself of the abnormal proteins beta-amyloid and tau that are created due to high metabolic activity. Sleep deprivation in the long run accumulates and is detrimental to brain health leading to Alzheimer’s, says Dr Naresh Purohit, executive member of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences. Sharing his concern on the rise in Alzheimer’s cases in the country, Dr Purohit, Principal Investigator for the Association of Studies for Mental Care, said at a recent event that India is on the cusp of a dementia epidemic with dementia patients projected to spike from the 44 lakh at present to over one crore by 2050. Incidentally, this surge can be ascribed to the growth in our geriatric population as India moves closer to becoming the world’s most populous country, surpassing even China. He said Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the neuro-degenerative diseases and accounts for sixty to seventy per cent of cases of dementia. Usually, the disease starts slowly and turns worse in due course of time. “One of the most common symptoms is memory loss, even about the recent events. This is known as shortterm memory loss syndrome. With the advancement of the problem, symptoms of trouble with the loss of motivation, language, mood swing, easily getting lost, issues with behaviour and taking self-care etc are seen among the affected persons,” he added. Dr Purohit, also Advisor for National Mental Health Programme, averred that in Alzheimer’s patients the ability to switch from a state of wandering mind to attentiveness breaks down leading to memory lapses and disorientation. He cautions, that there is no cure or medicine to date for this ailment and therefore it is important to take steps to delay the onset of the disease. He pointed out that medical research has established conclusively that smoking and excess sugar is harmful to the body but it is a big risk factor for developing dementia as well. Interestingly, factors that are linked to the onset of diabetes such as obesity and stress are also the factors that are likely to lead to Alzheimer’s and dementia, he added. Experts explained that a healthy diet is another indispensable factor in how to delay the onset of neurological age-related conditions like Alzheimer’s. They suggest following a Mediterranean diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. Seafood and eating eggs thrice a week while avoiding red meat, processed foods, and white flour, help not only in preventing dementia but also heart disease. Experts revealed that focussed activity such as practising meditation for a sustained period changes the brain structures and helps patients with memory-related disorders. “People need to do something that will challenge their brain and make one feel wanted,” experts said. They emphasised that half an hour of physical exercise every day, whether it be Yoga or even walking is non-negotiable. Such activities help to maintain the fitness of not just the body but also the mind. They averred that keeping the mind active be it through problem-solving, crossword or even learning languages helps immensely. Social interactions, taking part in clubs and associations and doing charity work especially to keep the mind engaged after retirement are crucial. Experts clarified that WhatsApping or even being on Instagram is not social interaction.

Binance Founder Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao Shares His Vision Of Web3 Opportunities At TC Sessions: Crypto – TechCrunch https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/binance-founder-changpeng-cz-zhao-shares-his-vision-of-web3-opportunities-at-tc-sessions-crypto-techcrunch/ When it comes to the decentralized world of crypto, few single entities loom larger or carry more weight in the industry than exchange behemoth Binance. The blockchain giant processed $34 trillion in trading volume in 2021, it says, and the exchange shows few signs of resting on its laurels as it pursues bold new bets to diversify its business. At the forefront of these changes is Binance founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao. The leader, commonly known as “CZ,” has managed to cultivate a celebrity status in the crypto space rivaled only by some of the space’s patron saints, including the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto and Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. Zhao is worth an estimated $65 billion. We’re thrilled to welcome Changpeng Zhao to TC Sessions: Crypto 2022 in Miami on November 17. CZ will join our stage virtually and we’re looking forward to discussing global market opportunities in a bear market, the regulatory challenges up ahead and where opportunities are (and aren’t) in web3. Binance has been extremely busy in 2022, even amid a crash in cryptocurrency prices and macroeconomic uncertainty. The company has continued to diversify its offerings and scour for new markets. In recent months, the company’s stateside entity Binance.US earned new investment as it strives to topple incumbents like Coinbase. Competitors have also been taking notice. And while Binance sits comfortably atop the market for crypto exchanges, rising competitors like FTX are looking to find new opportunities to increase their market share, pursuing bold M&A strategies and scaling venture investments. The exchange’s breakneck growth has attracted the attention of regulators as well, particularly in the United States. This summer, Bloomberg reported that the SEC was investigating Binance’s 2017 coin offering of their BNB token. That ecosystem is now the third-largest non-stablecoin cryptocurrency by market cap with a value north of $40 billion. TC Sessions: Crypto takes place on November 17 in Miami. Take advantage of our special launch pricing — save $250 on General Admission passes while supplies last. Buy your pass today, and then join the web3, DeFi and NFT communities to keep up with the ever-evolving and always exciting cryptoverse. Other popular games include 2048, where they have now owned the company, and South Park and Assassin’s Creed, where they’re the games’ publisher.  Their Chief Financial Officer, Frédérick Duguet, stated that they have performed slightly better than expected during the first quarter. Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege have been notable for their performances.  From their net bookings, it has totaled €293.3 million, which exceeded their target of around €280.0 million during the first quarter of 2022-23. However, it’s been down to 10% as last year’s first quarter totaled €326.0 million. Rockstar North Rockstar North is one of the developers of the best-selling Grand Theft Auto Series. One of their franchises, GTA V, has shipped 380 million units and become the second highest-selling game of all time. However, with GTA VI in development, there has been a leak where a third party had illegally accessed confidential information from their internal systems. Such a GTA VI leak has taken Take-Two (Rockstar North and GTA publisher’s parent company) shares down to 5.8% in the premarket.  On the GTAForums, a user named Teapotuberhacker posted links to videos of what appears to be the early build of GTA VI. It also contains 10,000 lines of the game’s source code, which it’s been called “one of the biggest leaks in video game history.”  Space Ape Space Ape is known for developing and publishing mobile games such as Boom Beach: Frontlines, Beatstar – Touch Your Music, and Fastlane: Road to Revenge. Some of their other mobile games are: Rival Kingdoms Transformers: Earth Wars Samurai Siege Beatstar – Touch Your Music has made $73 million in revenue, with 38 million downloads in its first year. The Beatstar music label has partnered with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and more.  The COO, Simon Hade, stated that their incredible music industry partners are doing innovative things in the gaming scene, where a new set of the audience gets to discover new music in the game. Conclusion With all the games currently developing in Europe, it’s safe to assume that their market value will continue to rise. The companies mentioned here are only some of the most popular video game developers in Europe. Still, it’s no wonder why other companies are acquiring them.

Joel Embiid Has Obtained American Citizenship! – US Sports – US Sports – https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/joel-embiid-has-obtained-american-citizenship-us-sports-us-sports/ This is news that must not have pleased Vincent Collet! While Joel Embiid obtained French nationality two months ago, and could therefore play in the blue jersey at the 2023 World Cup or the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which has caused many debates in French basketball, here that we learn that the pivot born in Cameroon 28 years ago also obtained American nationality! The 76ers center confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday that he was sworn in as a US citizen in Philadelphia two weeks ago.  » I have been here a long time. My son (Arthur, born in September 2020, editor’s note) is American. I live here and it’s a blessing to be an American. So I said, why not? “said the man with three passports. Born in Yaoundé in 1994, Joel Embiid arrived in the United States, more precisely in Florida, at 16, before joining the University of Kansas in 2012, then being drafted in first position by the 76ers two years later. . Embiid is a fan of French culture From the point of view of his history with the country, his American naturalization therefore seems more logical than his French naturalization. In January 2018, Joel Embiid had however confided in the columns of L’Equipe to have come to France when he was a child and to love French culture: “I have a lot of family in France. Uncles, aunts… I went there when I was little to spend two months on vacation. I haven’t had the opportunity to go back since I’ve been in the NBA, but as long as I’m healthy and during the summer I have nothing to do here in Philadelphia, I would like to travel. I love French food, Roland-Garros! I want to see the Tour de France. I really want to attend it in the race director’s car, for a mountain event. “It now remains to wait for his answer to the big question: for which selection does he want to play? « It’s still too early to think about the Olympics or other international tournaments. I just want to be healthy and win a ring, » he told The Associated Press. Reinforce the French team to face the United States eye to eye in Paris 2024, or reinforce a Team USA already quite dominant when it is complete? It’s up to him to choose… %

HEALTHY LIVING — Try This To Eat Healthy AND Keep The Flavor – Orange Leader – Orange Leader https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/healthy-living-try-this-to-eat-healthy-and-keep-the-flavor-orange-leader-orange-leader/ Published 12:04 am Sunday, October 2, 2022 Does eating healthy bring visions of endless salads with only a squeeze of lemon? Dried out baked chicken breasts? Bowls of bland steamed vegis’s? BLEH! That sounds too much like the dreaded D word … Diet. Banish these thoughts and do away with the D word. We are going to eat healthy and enjoy it immensely. I LOVE breakfast! Don’t skip it because you will just set yourself up to eat more, later in the day. My usual weekday breakfast is a slice of sprouted grain toast with a light smear of real butter and a scrambled egg, along with black coffee. On the weekends, we have bigger breakfasts: omelets with low fat or fat free cheese, low sodium real bacon, sprouted grain toast and lots of coffee. Maybe, we eat cottage cheese and oat pancakes with fresh blueberries and sugar free syrup, or topped with warmed sugar free cherry pie filling along with bacon. There is oatmeal with blueberries and a dash of sugar free syrup. I have at least two snacks a day, sometimes three. A handful of raw, unsalted almonds, fruit – seedless grapes are my favorite, a couple of ounces of cheese, 80-calorie yogurt or whole-wheat crackers. Lunch is usually vegis left over from supper, some chicken or maybe a salad with quinoa and cold vegis tossed in. A boiled egg chopped up with a package of dry pack tuna mixed in, those dry packs come in a wide variety of flavors. Homemade hummus with carrots or cucumbers and fruit is great. Supper is fish or chicken, we only have beef about twice a month. Instead of rice, I use riced cauliflower or steamed mixed grains. It can be used as a rice or potato substitute. Also, a product that closely mimics the texture of rice, but is made from high protein chick peas. Roasted vegetables are our favorite, Brussels sprouts, eggplant, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, squashes, even green beans. Toss them with a little extra virgin olive oil, some herbs and spices, and a sprinkle of grated parmesan, roast at 450 degrees for about 15 to 20 minutes. The Internet is a goldmine of food ideas. I make a pizza crust from riced cauliflower, shredded cheese, eggs and Italian seasonings. Bake it at 450 for about 20 minutes and top with turkey pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, chopped pepperoncini, drizzle some sauce over that, then a good sprinkle of cheese, pop back in the oven for about 10-15 minutes, VIOLA`! Pasta? Why sure! There is a nifty little tool you can find just about anywhere, it looks like a really big pencil sharpener. Just get two or three good sized zucchini and turn them into “zoodles.” Microwave for six minutes, drain, top with your favorite sauce, NOT Alfredo! Shave a little fresh parmesan on top and that is some good eating! There are also great “pastas’ made from lentils and chick peas. Some things I always keep in the cabinet are: • Fat free condensed soup, great for pouring over chicken and baking. • Low sodium chicken and vegitable broth, great as a base for cooking beans, simmering vegis and starting soups. • A large variety of dried and can beans. Chilled, drained black beans added to kale salad makes a quick and hearty supper. Pinto beans, broth, browned ground meat, low sodium chili seasoning, over quinoa, very tasty. • Quick Cook Oats, not just for breakfast, grind about ¼ cup up, add to meatloaf, better than bread crumbs. • Raw Almonds, my go to snack, chopped as a topping on vegis. • Almond milk, it’s low in fat, good on shredded wheat. Shelf stable, refrigerate after opening. • Lots and lots of herbs and salt free spices to flavor up that food. • Fresh, unprocessed foods are more expensive, not going to lie to you. But you will find that eating clean, virtually eliminates digestive problems, lowers allergy problems, increases your energy and helps to lower your weight, which has all kinds of great benefits. It’s a lifestyle, not a diet. And you can indulge yourself with a bit of chocolate or a bite of cake now and then. I promise you, you won’t feel deprived. Stay healthy, my friends! The minting process for the AI boxers will go live at 2 pm October 1st PDT via a Pro-Pack bundle.  The Pro Pack bundle features some of the most “intelligent” AI boxers and a rare limited edition Gym Bag. Only 300 wallets are allowed to mint per hour and the process will continue until all Pro-Pack NFTs have been minted. The Pro Pack cost to mint is 0.11 ETH.  The game is set to release sometime in 2023. The interesting gameplay allows users to play whatever virtual boxing avatar they can secure during the mint. The players will compete to win the title of The Next Legend.  Note that, not all of these virtual boxers will be built the same. Anyone who will get a boxer from the Pro Pack mint on October 1 will start with a higher rank with free in-game items bundled in a rare Gym Bag. The contents of these bags will be revealed in an upcoming Locker Room event.  This is not the first time Muhammad Ali-inspired digital assets have been introduced. In May, an NFT collection based on Muhammad Ali’s film “A God Amongst Men” was also launched by Studio Pictures and director James Newton. California Fraud Cases Highlight The Need For A Regulatory Crackdown On Crypto Cointelegraph
California Fraud Cases Highlight The Need For A Regulatory Crackdown On Crypto Cointelegraph
California Fraud Cases Highlight The Need For A Regulatory Crackdown On Crypto – Cointelegraph https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/california-fraud-cases-highlight-the-need-for-a-regulatory-crackdown-on-crypto-cointelegraph/ The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) announced last month that it had issued desist and refrain orders to 11 entities for violating California securities laws. Some of the highlights included allegations that they offered unqualified securities as well as material misrepresentations and omissions to investors. These violations should remind us that while crypto is a unique and exciting industry for the public at large, it is still an area that is rife with the potential for bad players and fraud. To date, government crypto regulation has been minimal at best, with a distinct lack of action. Whether you are a full-time professional investor or just a casual fan who wants to be involved, you need to be absolutely sure of what you are getting into before getting involved in any crypto opportunity. California has toyed with setting up a crypto-specific business registration process for those looking to do business in the state. The proposed framework was vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom as the resources required to establish and enforce such a framework would be prohibitive for the state. While this type of compliance infrastructure has not been employed yet, it points to concerns that regulatory authorities have related to the crypto industry. There appears to be a pattern that new industries, especially those that garner as much international attention as crypto, are especially susceptible to fraud. One must go only as far back as cannabis legalization to find the last time California had to deal with fraudulent schemes at this scale. Related: The feds are coming for the metaverse — from Axie Infinity to Bored Apes It appears inevitable that California, known to be a first mover in regulation and compliance, will create some form of crypto-specific compliance infrastructure in the name of consumer protection. If history is any indication, once California releases its framework, other states will follow. Federal and state representatives have been attempting to draft legislation to establish financial standards for crypto with little luck to date. At the federal level, Senators Cory Booker, John Thune, Debbie Stabenow and John Boozman co-sponsored a bill to empower the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to serve as the regulatory body for crypto, while Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Cynthia Lummis co-sponsored a bill to establish more clear guidance on digital assets and virtual currencies. Lawmakers have even reached out to tech luminaries such as Mark Zuckerberg to weigh in on crypto fraud. Source: Chainalysis None of these or other similarly crypto-focused bills are expected to pass in 2022, but this level of bipartisan cooperation has been unprecedented in recent times. The collaboration should reflect just the sheer magnitude of the need for a regulatory framework. Said another way, Democrats and Republicans speaking to one another about anything should stop the presses, but the fact that they are co-sponsoring multiple bills should tell us that there is a monumental requirement for guidance. How should one approach investing in the crypto space if the government is not going to establish controls for crypto? There are a few general points that one should consider if they are presented with a crypto investment opportunity. Related: GameFi developers could be facing big fines and hard time When reviewing any opportunity, do your due diligence! Do not take anyone’s word without some level of substantive support. If crypto is not an area of expertise, reach out to professionals who do have qualified experience. Make sure to utilize crypto monitoring and blockchain analysis tools, if possible, as part of the vetting process. A common strategy of fraudsters is putting undue pressure or artificial timelines on a potential close. Slow down the process and use any and all time necessary to make an investment decision. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. As overplayed as the cliché may be, it does bring up a valid point. There have been instances of schemes offering to pay initial and ongoing dividends for any new investors that are brought in and for additional dividends to be paid from any investors that those new investors bring in. If this sounds like a pyramid or multi-level marketing scheme, that’s because it is. Terms like “No Risk Investment” get thrown around as well. Ultimately, if no one knows where the opportunity is coming from, beware. While crypto can be a fun and electrifying topic with many legitimate opportunities, there are bad players who will take advantage of the lack of government oversight and the excitement of overenthusiastic or undereducated investors. Chinese Billionaire Richard Liu Settles US Rape Allegation – WJXT News4JAX https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/chinese-billionaire-richard-liu-settles-us-rape-allegation-wjxt-news4jax/ FILE – Liu Qiangdong, also known as Richard Liu, CEO of JD.com, raises his arms to celebrate the IPO for his company at the Nasdaq MarketSite, in New York on May 22, 2014. Liu has agreed to settle lawsuit from a former University of Minnesota student who alleges he raped her after a night of dinner and drinks in 2018 according to a statement released Saturday, Oct. 2, 2022. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan, File) (Mark Lennihan, Copyright 2019 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.) MINNEAPOLIS – Chinese billionaire and JD.com founder Richard Liu agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a former University of Minnesota student who alleged he raped her in her Minneapolis apartment after a night of dinner and drinks with wealthy Chinese executives in 2018, attorneys for both sides announced Saturday. Richard Liu, who stepped down as the CEO of Beijing-based e-commerce company JD.com this year amid increased government scrutiny of China’s technology industry, has denied raping the woman, Jingyao Liu. In a joint statement released Saturday night, attorneys for both sides said: “The incident between Ms. Jingyao Liu and Mr. Richard Liu in Minnesota in 2018 resulted in a misunderstanding that has consumed substantial public attention and brought profound suffering to the parties and their families. Today, the parties agreed to set aside their differences, and settle their legal dispute in order to avoid further pain and suffering caused by the lawsuit.” A settlement amount was not disclosed. The settlement was announced just two days before a trial was set to begin in a Minneapolis courtroom. Richard Liu was arrested on suspicion of felony rape in August 2018, but prosecutors said the case had “profound evidentiary problems” and declined to file criminal charges. Jingyao Liu sued Richard Liu in 2019, saying he and the other businessmen coerced her to drink alcohol at a group dinner, and that he forced himself on her in his vehicle and later raped her in her apartment. Ebola kills doctor in Uganda, first health worker killed in latest outbreak A Tanzanian doctor working in Uganda who contracted Ebola has died, the first health worker killed by the disease in the latest outbreak in the country, Uganda’s health minister said on Saturday. “I regret to announce that we have lost our first doctor, Dr. Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian national, 37-year-old Male,” the health minister, Jane Ruth Aceng, tweeted. Moderna refused China request to reveal vaccine technology – FT Moderna Inc has refused to hand over to China the core intellectual property behind the development of its COVID-19 vaccine, leading to a collapse in negotiations on its sale there, the Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter. The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based pharmaceutical company turned down China’s request to hand over the recipe for its mRNA vaccine because of commercial and safety concerns, the newspaper said, citing people involved in negotiations that took place between 2020 and 2021, adding that the vaccine maker is still “eager” to sell the product to China. Italy drops COVID-19 face mask rule for public transport Italians will no longer have to wear face masks on public transport, the health ministry said late on Thursday, in the latest easing of rules against the coronavirus pandemic. The ministry said a decree requiring mask wearing on trains, buses and ferries, expiring on Friday, would not be renewed. The obligation was extended, however, for hospitals and care homes. Two thirds of U.S. adults don’t plan on getting COVID boosters soon – poll Around two-thirds of adults in the United States do not plan to get updated COVID-19 booster shots soon, according to a survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), a health policy nonprofit organization. Only a third of adults polled said they either already received the updated shots or plan to get the booster as soon as possible, the poll found. A Chinese mRNA COVID vaccine is approved for the first time – in Indonesia Indonesia said it has granted emergency use approval to an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine developed by a Chinese company, becoming the first country, ahead of even China, to do so. Indonesia’s food and drugs agency (BPOM) greenlighted the use of Walvax Biotechnology Co Ltd’s mRNA vaccine, which has been in development for more than two years and targets the original strain of the coronavirus. Amylyx prices newly approved ALS drug at $158,000 per year Amylyx Pharmaceuticals Inc on Friday set the list price of its newly approved drug to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at about $158,000 per year in the United States, a discount to its most recently approved competitor. The drug Relyvrio was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday, making it the third ALS treatment to get the regulator’s nod after Japanese firm Mitsubishi Tanabe’s Radicava, priced at around $170,000 per year, and the generic drug riluzole. As Australia calls end to COVID emergency response, doctors warn of risk to public Australia will end the mandatory five-day home quarantine for COVID-infected people on Oct. 14, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Friday, even as some doctors warned the move would put the public at risk. The decision to let COVID-infected Australians decide whether they need to isolate or not removes one of the country’s last remaining restrictions from the pandemic era, and comes about a month after the quarantine period was cut to five days from seven. Analysis-Eisai’s trial success raises hope for Alzheimer’s prevention Clear evidence this week that Eisai and Biogen’s drug lecanemab slows cognitive decline in early-stage dementia has galvanized efforts among Alzheimer’s researchers toward a tantalizing goal – preventing dementia even before symptoms start. Lecanemab is an antibody that targets and removes toxic clumps of a protein called amyloid beta that accumulates in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s. Results from the companies’ 1,800-patient trial released on Tuesday showed convincingly that doing so also slows the advance of the mind-robbing disease. Chinese artist records era of COVID, one test at a time For most of China’s 1.4 billion people, regular COVID-19 tests have become a way of life. Siyuan Zhuji is trying to turn them into a work of art. Since March, the 33-year-old multi-disciplinary artist from Jiangsu province has been filming his own nucleic acid tests with a small camera in his mouth. Cholera outbreaks surging worldwide, fatality rates rising – WHO Cholera cases have surged this year, especially in places of poverty and conflict, with outbreaks reported in 26 countries and fatality rates rising sharply, a World Health Organization official said on Friday. In a typical year, fewer than 20 countries report outbreaks of the disease which is spread by the ingestion of contaminated food or water and can cause acute diarrhea. (With inputs from agencies.)

College Football Scores, Schedule, NCAA Top 25 Rankings, Games Today: USC, Oregon In Action – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/college-football-scores-schedule-ncaa-top-25-rankings-games-today-usc-oregon-in-action-cbs-sports/ See New Posts Pinned USC pulling away Mid 4Q: USC 35, Arizona State 17 It’s been a nice bounce-back performance for Caleb Williams after the Trojans struggled offensively last week in a low-scoring win over Oregon State. There was more defense in this game than you’d expect from these teams. A couple of missed field goals hampered FSU’s momentum. Justice Ellison led the way for Wake Forest with 114 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Pinned Kansas shocks Iowa State Final: Kansas 14, Iowa State 11 Kansas football used a strong defensive effort to shock the Cyclones and move to 5-0 for the first time since 2009. Star quarterback Jalon Daniels was held to just 102 total yards in his fifth game, but the defense came up in a hu...

Ruptured Oil Pipeline Off California Approved For Repairs – 69News WFMZ-TV https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/ruptured-oil-pipeline-off-california-approved-for-repairs-69news-wfmz-tv/ LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Texas oil company was granted permission to repair an underwater pipeline that ruptured off the coast of Southern California a year ago, spilled tens of thousands of gallons of crude, and forced beaches and fisheries to close. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted the approval Friday to Amplify Energy Corp., clearing the way to rebuild the aging pipeline that burst months after it was apparently weakened when it was snagged by the anchors of ships adrift in a storm. The Oct. 1, 2021, rupture spilled about 25,000 gallons (94,600 liters) of oil into the Pacific Ocean, closed miles of beaches for a week, shuttered fisheries for months and coated birds and wetlands in oil. The approval to rebuild the pipe running from an oil rig off Huntington Beach to tanks in Long Beach comes less than a month after Amplify pleaded guilty to federal charges of negligently discharging oil. The Houston-based company and two subsidiaries also agreed to plead no contest in state court to polluting water and killing birds. Amplify said the approval will allow it to remove and replace the damaged segments of pipe from the ocean floor. It estimated the work would take up to a month after a barge is in place. If it passes a series of safety tests after being fixed, the company said it expected to begin operating in the first quarter of 2023. Environmentalists who want the pipeline shut down criticized the permit approval and renewed calls to put an end to offshore oil operations. “The Biden administration just ramped up the risk of yet another ugly oil spill on California’s beautiful coast,” said Brady Bradshaw of the Center for Biological Diversity. “Unfortunately, people living near offshore drilling infrastructure are all too familiar with this abusive cycle of drill, spill, repeat.” On Wednesday, the environmental group sued the federal government for allowing the platform where the pipeline originated to operate under outdated plans that indicated the platform should have been decommissioned more than a decade ago. The lawsuit also said the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management failed to review and require plan revisions, despite the spill. Amplify contended that the spill wouldn’t have occurred if two ships hadn’t dragged their anchors across the pipeline and damaged it during a January 2021 storm. It said it wasn’t notified about the anchor snagging until after the spill. While the size of the spill was not as bad as initially feared, U.S. prosecutors said the company should have been able to turn off the damaged line much sooner had it recognized the gravity of a series of leak-detection alarms over a 13-hour period. The first alarm sounded late on the afternoon of Oct. 1, 2021, but workers misinterpreted the cause, according to the federal plea agreement. When the alarm sounded throughout the night, workers shut down the pipeline to investigate and then restarted it after deciding they were false alarms. That spewed more oil. It wasn’t until after daybreak that a boat identified the spill and the line was shut down. As part of a federal court agreement to pay a $7 million fine and nearly $6 million in expenses incurred by agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, the company and subsidiaries agreed to install a new leak-detection system and train employees to identify and respond to potential leaks. The company agreed to plead guilty to six state misdemeanor charges and pay $4.9 million in penalties and fines as part of a settlement. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. She-Hulk Unapologetically Enjoys Calling Out Sexism – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/she-hulk-unapologetically-enjoys-calling-out-sexism-cbr-comic-book-resources/ The following contains spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Season 1, Episode 7, “The Retreat,” which debuted Sept. 29, on Disney+. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is vastly different from other Marvel Cinematic Universe series because the show’s protagonist maintains a relatively normal life outside her new superpowers. With this tonal shift, the series is also able to focus on societal issues and poke fun at some recurring themes Jen Walters would likely encounter in the real world. Some characters in the series have essentially served to mock toxic masculinity and sexism, especially in the business world, and these jokes elevate the series refreshingly. Many of these characters serve as side stories in each episode, adding to the development of Jen’s coworkers within the law firm. At the start of the series, Dennis Bukowski is introduced as one of Jen’s coworkers at the Los Angeles Country District Attorney’s Office. He undermined her when they worked together, trying to take the lead on most cases and insinuating she couldn’t do the job as well as he could. He also proudly talked bad about women and down to them. One of Dennis’ most sexist and memorable lines was in Season 1, Episode 2, “Superhuman Law,” when Dennis said, “There’s a hot chick over there. I’m gonna go talk to it,” implying women aren’t people. He is the most over-the-top sexist character, and the show punishes him appropriately. When he’s forced to seek legal counsel for help against a superhero, his arrogance and sexism protect his assets while proving to the audience that he is a joke. Meanwhile, in Season 1, Episode 6, “Just Jen,” Nikki Ramos (Jen’s paralegal) stayed behind to help another attorney, Mallory Book, while Jen attended a wedding. The case she encountered with Mallory included a man with superpowers named Craig Hollis, or Mr. Immortal. The man had a long list of ex-spouses he tricked into believing he died once the relationships became difficult. What made his character sexist was the way he claimed he could not understand women when he made very little effort to do so and caused major problems for them without remorse. Mr. Immortal served to represent a large portion of men in society who also find women difficult to understand without taking the proper time to get to know a woman on an individual level. Women are often labeled as naggy and without a sense of humor by sexist individuals who are inconsiderate with their words and efforts. Although Mr. Immortal was highly frustrating, the episode ended by providing payback to the women he manipulated and abandoned, giving viewers a necessary catharsis to self-serving individuals such as him. Many men in the series, on the other hand, aren’t sexist and provide a safe space for the women in the show, but there are other ways Jen deals with sexism throughout the series. Societal expectations for her are very different from her cousin even though they are both Hulks. For instance, Jen struggled to navigate dating or living a normal life with her powers because she’s judged by her gender. Before gaining her powers, she already made a name for herself in a male-dominated field, but she still struggled to be seen or respected by her peers. One heartwarming moment in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was in Season 1, Episode 7, “The Retreat,” when Jen had a counseling session with a group of men. She shared her dating woes and insecurities about herself, and the group made her feel better. This provided a nice change to the male characters she often interacted with in the series, and it also displayed what healthy communication between genders could look like. Although Jen is likely to still encounter sexists in her line of work, it was nice for her to experience a safe and healing moment with her male counterparts.

Nebraska Vs. Indiana Live Updates Score, Results, Highlights, For Saturday’s NCAA Football Game – CBS Sports https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/nebraska-vs-indiana-live-updates-score-results-highlights-for-saturdays-ncaa-football-game-cbs-sports/ The Nebraska Cornhuskers have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. The Cornhuskers and the Indiana Hoosiers will face off in a Big Ten battle at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Tom Osborne Field at Memorial Stadium. Neither team wants a repeat from their last game since each was dealt a considerable loss. Nebraska suffered a bitter defeat two weeks ago, failing to capitalize on an early lead against the Oklahoma Sooners. Nebraska took a serious blow against Oklahoma, falling 49-14. Nebraska was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 35-7. No one had a standout game offensively for Nebraska, but they got scores from WR Trey Palmer and QB Chubba Purdy. Meanwhile, IU was expected to have a tough go of it last week, and, well, they did. Things couldn’t have gone much worse for them as they lost 45-24 to the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Hoosiers were down 38-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Indiana’s loss came about despite a quality game from RB Shaun Shivers, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. Shivers hadn’t helped his team much against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him. The Cornhuskers are the favorite in this one, with an expected 5.5-point margin of victory. Neither team has fared well against the spread — they are 0-2, while IU are 0-3. The losses put Nebraska at 1-3 and the Hoosiers at a reciprocal 3-1. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Nebraska ranks 12th in the nation when it comes to rushing touchdowns, with 12 on the season. But IU enters the matchup with only two rushing touchdowns allowed, good for 13th best in the nation. We’ll see if their defense can keep the Cornhuskers’ running backs out of the end zone. Think The Metaverse Is Overrated? Walmart Has A Different View | Bill McLoughlin – Furniture Today https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/think-the-metaverse-is-overrated-walmart-has-a-different-view-bill-mcloughlin-furniture-today/ There is a stage in the evolution of any new technology or change to the traditional order where the naysayers come out in force. Remember when people said no one would shop online because they wouldn’t be willing to share their credit card information? Although that now sounds absurd, it was a real and ongoing debate at the time. As it turns out, consumers are willing to share a shocking amount of personal information online, happily, even eagerly. And many now expect that information to be accessed and acted upon to deliver a better online experience. Remember when people said Facebook was just for teenagers who wanted to share their every thought and activity? As it turns out, people of all generations want to do exactly that, across myriad social media platforms and in such large numbers that billions of dollars are spent reaching and selling them on those very platforms. But the metaverse? That apparently is a step too far. That’s just for gaming. That’s just for kids. That’s years, if not generations, away. Someone should have told Walmart. The nation’s largest brick-and-mortar retailer last week announced plans for not one, but two new immersive experiences on the metaverse platform Roblox. One, dubbed Walmart Land, will bring fashion, style, beauty and entertainment items to the global Roblox community of more than 52 million daily users. The other is called Walmart’s Universe of Play and will offer unique interactive content and entertainment for customers on Walmart’s ‘isles’ designed to visually mimic the retailer’s starburst logo. “Roblox is one of the fastest growing and largest platforms in the metaverse, and we know our customers are spending loads of time there,” said William White, chief marketing officer. “So, we’re focusing on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we’re already doing in the communities where they live and, now, the virtual worlds where they play.” It’s worth noting that White clearly is drawing the connection between the physical world in which Walmart currently operates and the virtual one that represents the future. The retailer’s new Roblox initiative will allow users to win and purchase virtual goods or “verch” that can be used within Walmart Land and will also connect them to physical products that can be bought with good old fashion currency. While initial effort is aimed at consumers in Roblox’s 17- to 34-year-old core demographic and the types of product they’re looking for at this life stage, it’s clear that Walmart recognizes where it will find its next generation of customers and is not waiting for them to find its stores. And for those naysayers who point to the current generation of virtual reality headsets as a potential barrier to consumer entry it’s worth noting that Walmart’s Universe of Play, like Roblox, can be accessed on any device including PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Amazon devices, Xbox consoles, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The future is inevitable. Being relevant to consumers in that future is up to you. Taiwan Bank To Buy American Continental, Eyes Further U.S. Expansion Amid Military Tension With Beijing – Forbes https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/taiwan-bank-to-buy-american-continental-eyes-further-u-s-expansion-amid-military-tension-with-beijing-forbes/ © 2022 Bloomberg Finance LP Taichung Commercial Bank of Taiwan said on Friday it had agreed to buy California-based American Continental Bank for approximately $82 million as part of an effort to expand into the U.S. market. American Continental Bank mainly serves Chinese-American communities in the City of Industry and surrounding communities in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. It has branches in City of Industry, Alhambra, Chino Hills and Arcadia in California, as well as in Bellevue, Washington. The bank also has loan production offices Fremont, California, and Carrollton, Texas. “We are excited to be entering the Los Angeles, Washington, and Texas markets and intend to open new branches in the United States,” President David Jia said in a statement. Taichung Commercial Bank’s move comes amid heightened military tension between mainland China and Taiwan this year. Taiwan is home to many of the world’s largest technology companies, and Washington has encouraged Taiwan’s chip industry to invest in the U.S.; among them, GlobalWafers, a maker of semiconductor wafers, this year announced plans to build a $5 billion facility in Texas, and MediaTek, which competes with Qualcomm, will open a design center at Purdue University. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, one of the world’s largest chip makers, is already building a facility in Arizona. The U.S. currently has more than 70 Asian American or Pacific Islander American owned banks, according to Investopedia. East West Bank leads the way; Taiwan-based CTCB Bank is among the group. Far East National, then backed by Taiwan’s Bank SinoPac, was acquired by L.A.-based Cathay General in 2017. Taiwan has the world’s 22nd largest economy. Taiwan businesses that rank on the Forbes Global 2000 list of the world’s top publicly traded companies include Hon Hai Precision — the big supplier to Apple led by billionaire Terry Gou, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, or TSMC, which makes computer chips for Intel. Others among Taiwan’s numerous Apple suppliers include Pegatron, Lite-On Technology, Inventec, Catcher Technology, Largan Precision and Compeq Manufacturing. Toyota’s Tech Head Talks Future Of Cars: ‘We’re Just At The Start Of Our Transformation’ – Texarkana Gazette https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/toyotas-tech-head-talks-future-of-cars-were-just-at-the-start-of-our-transformation-texarkana-gazette/ Toyota Connected’s newly appointed CEO and President Steve Basra sits before a futuristic Lexus used in the movie Minority Report at their offices in Plano, Texas, Sept. 20, 2022. Basra is a longtime Toyota technology executive who has played an integral role in the company’s digital transformation while helping to build a world-leading software and data science company. (Tom Fox/The Dallas Morning News/TNS) The Plano, Texas, office of Toyota’s mobility and innovation arm looks like a sleeker version of the typical bright white, open-floor startup. On one wall of the Legacy West space, employees tape up a photo of themselves from childhood. “Because at that time in life, we believe anything is possible,” said Steve Basra, the new CEO of Toyota Connected. The company started six years ago with five people, including Basra. “We just stole some desks at the main headquarters office,” Basra said about the company’s early days. Now the Plano office has undergone several expansions to accommodate the growing team of technologists responsible for the bells and whistles that go into all Toyota cars, from a Corolla to a Lexus LC. It has grown to 240 employees, with additional offices in India and London. Examples of their work include an emergency assistance button that connects you with 24/7 roadside assistance and an automatic collision notification that alerts a 24/7 response center when an airbag deploys or when the rear of the vehicle has suffered a “severe” hit. Basra stepped up as CEO in July to replace Zack Hicks, who retired after being with Toyota since 1996. Hicks is now the chief digital and technology officer at Irving-based Kimberly-Clark Corp. Basra, 47, is a Toyota loyalist, having been with the company his entire 24-year career, which started in the automaker’s IT department. He lived in Kentucky, Belgium and Japan before moving to Texas in 2016 to become Toyota Connected’s chief technology officer. Having a separate company to focus on connected vehicles, information systems and research and development gives the team more freedom, Basra said. Within a big company, it’s hard to spur innovation sometimes, he said. “We can’t serve beer at the main headquarters, but we can do it here,” he said, referring to the massive campus Toyota Motor North America built to house nearly 4,000 workers a short distance away. “You can’t provide free food to everyone at the main office, but you can here. So we’re close enough because it’s just down the road, but we’re far enough away that we can have that flexibility to do what we want.” Basra recently sat down with The Dallas Morning News at Toyota Connected’s newly renovated headquarters to talk about his vision for its future. His answers have been edited for brevity and clarity. Q: What new projects are in the works for Toyota vehicles? A: Something that we call service connect, where we use data from the vehicle to try to predict when something is going to happen to your vehicle — whether it’s that you need to change your oil or have an engine issue. We want to be able to predict that before you get an alert. We can send customers a message through our app, connect them to a dealership and show them available appointment times. One other idea we’re looking to launch soon is, say you’re on a walk and you’ve parked your car on the street and it’s dark at night and you don’t feel safe. What we want to do is have a safety service so you can touch a button on your phone and get through to a real-life person who will stay on the phone with you until you’re in your car. And while you’re walking to your car, we can switch on all your vehicle lights and if, God forbid, something does happen, we can contact the emergency services straight away and they know where you are. Q: How competitive is it among automakers for technologists? A: It’s huge. All original equipment manufacturers are transitioning to where they’re trying to build a company similar to this one, or they’re trying to be in technology. It’s massively competitive. But it’s not just OEMs. For every company now, this is going to be an ongoing battle. But I think we’re well-placed. We have four months of paternity leave, for example, and we expect you to take them. And we spent a lot of time on the organization structure to make sure we have the right people, and that they’re getting their time with managers and mentors to build their careers. We are fully hybrid. There is no pressure to come into the office. It’s worked very smoothly for us. We want to treat our employees like adults. And I don’t care if people leave. What I mean by that is, it’s natural that people will move around in the technology sector, and we don’t look unfavorably on people when they do that. We don’t try to put in policies that don’t help people grow. Our goal is to build policies where we treat people how they want to be treated and hope they stay, rather than trying to force people to stay. Q: The phone industry has matured, with only slight improvements each year. What do you think about the auto industry? A: We’re just at the start of our transformation. I think you’re 100% right. If you look at the iPhone 14, it is a bit of a joke. If you look at what’s changed, there’s really nothing. What makes it so exciting in this space is that we don’t know what the future is. We get to decide what the future will be. It’s very rare that you get to work in an industry in technology where you can make that statement. I’ve mentioned to all our employees that they’re the ones who are going to decide what the consumer experience in all vehicles will be in the future. Think about it. Connected vehicles, they’ve really only been around for the last five to 10 years. And it’s only in the last two to three years that people have really started to take it seriously and started to think about what this could mean. Q: Does what your team creates increase the price of a Toyota? A: I try not to say that. I try to say that we add cost to a car and we take cost out. We can do both. We try to remain cost-neutral. Yes, we’re putting bigger screens into the car and stuff like that. But by putting bigger screens in, you’re also taking costs out because now you need fewer buttons and less physical hardware in the vehicles. It’s a trade-off. Technology is where the future is. When I got my first car, it was about the engine. Nowadays, most people don’t look at the engine. The first thing they look at is technology. They get in the car. They look at the screen. They look at what it can do. So, yes, we may be adding cost, but I think that is where the cost should go because that is what consumers want. Q: Is there ever a time when you think, “We could make the car do this, but then it would be too expensive”? A: Yes, all the time. That has huge trade-offs. You look at some OEMs putting so many screens everywhere, but I think they’re missing the point. Do consumers want more screens in their car? Or do they just want a phenomenal experience? I think they want a phenomenal experience. The danger is that we just keep on putting more technology into these vehicles. I think that’s the wrong idea. So when someone comes up with an idea, let’s try it. Let’s not dismiss it. Let’s figure it out. If it’s really, really expensive, let’s see if we can figure out a better way of doing it using technology and what compromises we have to make. That is our job every day. It really is. Q: What car do you drive? A: I try to drive every car we have. I had the Lexus LC just recently. I just gave that back. Now I’m driving a [Lexus] GX, which is the complete opposite. With our group, we have every car because we’re building the technology for the in-car systems. I can just go in and pick the car I want to drive for that week or that month. I encourage my team to do the same. It’s really important that we know our product. ©2022 The Dallas Morning News. Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC. 10 Rare PlayStation Games You’ll Never Play (Because They’re Too Expensive) – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/10-rare-playstation-games-youll-never-play-because-theyre-too-expensive-cbr-comic-book-resources/ The PlayStation 1 had some of the best and most creative games of the late 90s. No matter the genre, every kind of gamer could find something they loved, whether it was now-forgotten fighting games or some of the best JRPGs. Considering how complex gaming is now, it’s understandable that some people might want to go back to the PS1 era just for a short while. But those looking to buy PS1 games at a discount, or even at the $40 price they paid back in the day, might be disappointed with some games. Thanks to games running out of print and collectors not wanting to give up their copies, there are some PlayStation games players will never get a chance to play again. 10/10 Einhänder Brought Square Into The World Of Shooters ($250) Square released Einhänder for the PlayStation 1 in North America in 1998. As expected of Squaresoft even back then, the story was about a war between the Earth and the Moon. The protagonist was a member of the Moon army, making brief invasions for the sake of getting information and weapons from the enemy. Interestingly, in Japan, Einhänder was made available for players on the PlayStation Network in 2008. However, that port never came stateside, so players who want to buy this game need to be ready to plunk down around $250 or more. 9/10 Shadow Tower Represented From Software’s Progress To A Classic ($270) From Software spent a lot of years working on games that weren’t mega hits before stumbling onto Dark Souls. Shadow Tower was one such game, where the game is a first-person dungeon crawler where the player has returned to his home only to learn it’s been sucked into the underworld. While the idea behind the game is interesting, it was pretty terrible. However, considering how popular From Software has become in the last decade, plenty of people would like to play a game like this just to see where the developer started. But with no digital copy available, even those fans are going to have to pay upwards of $270 if they want to get a hold of this. The Mega Man Legends series was a beloved series of Mega Man titles for the PlayStation. The series relied on its story to add humor and personality to the characters that just couldn’t be there in the mainline games due to their action-heavy nature. But if people want to play the second game in the series, they’re out of luck. The title was available on PlayStation Network at one point, but since the PS3 store was closed down, anyone who doesn’t already own it has no legal way of getting it other than a physical copy. At best, the game is going for around $300, which is a lot for a game that doesn’t have a proper ending because the third iteration got canceled. 7/10 Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter Relied On Frenetic Tag-Team Action ($300) Capcom took gradual steps towards creating the masterpiece Marvel vs. Capcom and its sequels. To begin with, they had X-Men vs. Street Fighter; then they moved on to the next step of cutting down on the X-Men to add in other major heroes like Captain America and Hulk. Much like the previous game, this was another tag-team title, focusing on fast-paced two-on-two gameplay. Unfortunately, there are a host of reasons why this game hasn’t been made available on digital platforms. Working out agreements with Marvel isn’t going to be easy, and if Capcom were to do it, they’d start with Marvel vs. Capcom proper before they went near the more forgotten games like this. 6/10 Tales of Destiny Turned The Tales Franchise Into A Success ($350) The Tales of franchise existed before Tales of Destiny, but this iteration in the franchise was, for a long time, the most successful. The game focused on Stahn Aileron and his friends, placed in charge of protecting the world after they each obtained the power of Swordians, talking swords. The game was unlike anything on the market at the time, with its side-scrolling action RPG combat. However, despite its sales, Namco never took the game seriously in the States. Tales of Destiny never got the PlayStation 2 remake localized in America, and it was never released on PlayStation Network for the fans. 5/10 Batman Forever: The Arcade Game Takes Batman And Robin Into Battle Against Two-Face And The Riddler ($450) Two-Face and the Riddler is actually by no means a good game. It’s not even somewhat fun like the NES Batman game. The only value the title has on it is that it’s almost impossible to find these days. It’s a beat ’em up that focuses on Batman and Robin traveling through Gotham beating up on the villains. There’s a combo system, but it’s all down to punches and kicks, with any gadgets in Batman’s utility belt instead stored throughout the stages. In the end, anyone who wants to buy this will have to hunt through eBay, because no one would ever pay for the license to make it available on digital storefronts these days. 4/10 Tail Concerto Is A Steampunk World Filled With Anthropomorphic Animals ($550) The developers at CyberConnect teamed up with Bandai to release Tail Concerto, a platformer filled with adorable talking animals. The protagonist is a police officer named Waffle Ryebread, which was hilarious enough to be worth the cost of admission when the game launched. Aside from that, this was a good but not great game with some charming graphics. Unfortunately, the game isn’t readily available as a digital copy these days. When people find them, physical releases tend to be well over $500. Tron Bonne was one of the standout additions to the Mega Man Legends lore that couldn’t be found in older Mega Man games. And between the releases of Mega Man Legends and Mega Man Legends 2, Capcom released a prequel title. The prequel focuses on Tron, the sister of the Bonne family that make up one of the main protagonists of the Legends games. Tron Bonne’s game focuses on puzzle solving and third-person shooter action, along with leveling up different Servbots who work for her. Though the game was brought over here, it was primarily meant to hype Mega Man Legends 2. Decades later, the title hasn’t made it to a digital service, and the price of the title has climbed up to almost $700. 2/10 Revelations Persona Is A Challenge For Any Collector ($700) The Persona franchise is so beloved it seems like all of their games should be easily downloadable anywhere. But since the franchise wasn’t huge until Persona 3, Atlus almost seems to forget about the games before that. The original game on PlayStation 1 will run collectors around $700 if they want a physical copy. If they’re willing to settle for the PlayStation Portable remaster, it’s still around $200. The “easiest” way to obtain it is to buy a PlayStation Classic, but then that’s asking someone to spend $80 for a bunch of other games they might not even want. 1/10 The Original Syphon Filter 3 Cover Is Almost Impossible To Find ($900) In the first place, good luck finding this game. Finding Syphon Filter 3 on its own won’t be difficult or cheap. But a different version of the game is considerably more challenging to locate. This version is known by fans as the “911 Edition” because the game was meant to release in September. That game version had a photo of the United States flag in the background with gas around Gabe and Lian. But in the aftermath of 9/11, this cover was deemed troublesome, and they changed it entirely. Copies with the original cover exists, but they’re so hard to track down that people can basically charge whatever they want for it. NEXT: 10 Video Games That Could Be Great TV Series
