The cocktail renaissance was well into its prime when I stumbled onto it around 2008. We were in New York, and friends — telling us nothing about where we were going — led us to an inconspicuous door of an oddly shaped building in the West Village. After waiting to get in, we were led down a narrow staircase to a dimly lit space, where bartenders in suspenders, surrounded by ingredients I had never heard of, asked what we liked and made us amazing cocktails, over ice clearer than I knew ice could be.
I felt like I had stumbled into some magical place — Narnia with jiggers — and offered mysterious potions. Even if the suspenders were a bit much, they were a brand of too much I found funny and charming.
I didn’t know it at the time, but that was Little Branch, one of the bars of the late Sasha Petraske, who started some of New York’s most iconic tippling spots and trained some of the bartenders who have shaped how people drink now.
The cocktail renaissance has spread far and wide, bringing back old ingredients and techniques and also sparking a burst of new creativity. There are great cocktail spots all over the country, and it’s always a joy to discover them. And that trip to Little Branch showed me the delight of having someone who knows their stuff make a drink just for you, based on what you like. It’s what sent me down the rabbit hole of learning about drinks and building my home bar — I wanted to give other people that moment of delight.
Making bespoke drinks for friends and family, old drinks with a history or new ones, that are a treat for the eyes and the palate, has become a real pleasure for me. I hope it’ll be one for you, too.
The recipes and tips shared here will set you on the path to better drinks — boozy and nonalcoholic — at home.
Highballs and other fizzy cocktails
Just how involved do you want to get in decking out your drink this evening? Start with a classic highball — a spirit lengthened with a bubbly, nonalcoholic mixer typically in double the amount of the spirit — and then kick it up a notch. By adding just citrus juice, simple syrup and/or an egg white, you’ll find yourself sipping a rickey, a Tom Collins or a fizz in no time.
Master these seven cocktail recipes to open up a world of drink possibilities. All of these classics are makeable with ingredients easily sourced at your neighborhood liquor and grocery stores, and in making them, you’ll learn a lot about cocktails as a whole. Make them repeatedly, and they’ll teach you one of the most important lessons for the home cocktailer — what you like.
How to turn tea into nonalcoholic cocktails
When selected carefully, tea can do similar work to wine, without the alcohol. Tea’s structure and complexity have made it a key player in alcohol-free mixology, and playing with temperature and steeping times can yield refreshing results. Here’s how to start using tea to make deeply flavored, thoughtful nonalcoholic drinks at home — no fancy equipment or special skills required.

10 Questions To Ask A Potential Helpdesk Service Provider – ChannelE2E https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/10-questions-to-ask-a-potential-helpdesk-service-provider-channele2e/

When an MSP outgrows its in-house support capabilities, outsourcing to a reliable helpdesk partner can bring both tangible and intangible benefits. The challenge is that everyone has a different idea of what a great helpdesk service delivers. Some businesses give more importance to 24×7 availability while others are more interested in high customer satisfaction scores.
The bottom line: Choosing the right helpdesk is a matter of clearly identifying what your MSP needs are and then assessing potential partners against this framework.
Here are 10 questions that can help you discern between a good and a great helpdesk service provider. These questions will enable you to identify the right service provider with the specific approach that aligns with your organizational values and customer expectations.
1. Does the helpdesk provide tier-based support?
Usually, MSPs starting out use a single-tier customer support system ― a single point of contact to handle queries or solve problems. However, as they grow they tend to need more than just a single-tier model. This means investing in a multi-tiered support system.
Traditional helpdesks offer just L1 or Tier 1 support. But, since most mature helpdesk services have evolved in order to better serve their customer base, you should look for helpdesk service providers that subdivide technical support into tiers or levels.
A comprehensive support structure revolves around Tier 1 (serves as the first point of contact for queries that need basic technical support), Tier 2 (less customer-oriented, focusing more on resolving issues and closing tickets) and Tier 3 (comprised of senior technical staff that deals with complex issues).
2. What about CSAT? How does the service provider calculate it?
An important factor in your decision to outsource your helpdesk support needs is assessing customer satisfaction. After all, your choice of partners will directly impact your reputation and service levels with your clients. What your customers are thinking, feeling, and saying about the outsourced helpdesk service is very valuable and important for ensuring your MSP’s success in meeting customer expectations. One of the most important metrics for customer support is measuring your helpdesk’s customer satisfaction score (CSAT).
The mechanism a service provider use for CSAT should produce valuable metrics into back-end processes, staff training, and how they deal with specific customer groups and types of inquiry. It can also be a good idea to gauge the satisfaction of each customer at crucial points in their experience (right after closing a ticket) and include it in cumulative CSAT. A service provider that is hesitant to share CSAT should be a red flag to an MSP.
3. Does the helpdesk measure FCR?
First-call resolution (FCR) is an important helpdesk metric and critical element of customer relationship management (CRM). FCR is a helpdesk’s ability to resolve customer problems the first time they contact the helpdesk with no follow-up required for the same incident. FCR not only helps gauge customer satisfaction but also measures your helpdesk professional’s efficiency. The higher the helpdesk’s first-call resolution rate, the more satisfied the customers will be. High FCR rates, paired with low talk time, is the goal here.
4. Can the helpdesk answer LIVE? How long does it take to respond to queries?
What does the helpdesk do to improve the response rate? The most important attribute of good support is fast response time; that is, how quickly does helpdesk respond to customers. Reducing response times and getting back to customers with helpful and relevant information is the key to support service success.
One way to achieve this is forwarding calls to live operators. This makes the callers’ experience more positive. Not to mention, a human interaction over automatic recordings always feels more authentic in terms of being focused on customer experience.
Since a fast response makes customers feel important, helpdesk SPOCs should ideally maintain a “less than a minute” call response time. To uncover that answer, consider asking process-related questions such as, “Is the service provider still using a shared access mailbox to manage hundreds (sometimes thousands) of service emails or are they using an automation tool?”
By using autoresponders, templates, and text shortcuts (to write responses) ― and categorizing incoming service requests based on priority ― a helpdesk can reduce average response time and improve the average response rate. It’s also important for a helpdesk to record every single conversation or interaction with the customer to look back and understand the most common or challenging service issues.
5. Is the helpdesk familiar with the MSP model?
The MSP industry is competitive and quickly evolving. That makes it essential that your potential helpdesk partner is ready to embrace innovation and keep up with the latest industry trends, providing a service that is proactive at anticipating issues. A helpdesk can have thousands of support tickets on a daily basis, but the level of complexity can differ on each one. Being familiar with the MSP business model can help the helpdesk service provider handle many tickets of different complexities. It can empower the service provider to seamlessly integrate helpdesk service to an MSP partner’s toolset and provide third-party or vendor management capabilities, meaning they can deal with third-party application software or ISPs to solve issues.
A potential service provider should understand standardized documentation and have helpdesk team(s) or SPOCs available for the client MSP to deal with a large volume of tickets, Round-Robin, and criteria-based assignments. It should also provide phone-based, chat-based, and after-hours support.
6. Does the helpdesk have a clearly defined SLA? Can it be customized as per my MSP needs?
SLAs are important to measure customer pulse, service experience, productivity, and expectations. By mutually agreeing on the “scope of work” clause under the SLA, you can subscribe to the most-suited support framework for your business. By accessing your MSP needs and then accordingly predefining metrics in the service agreement, you can ensure there are no grey areas of support and surprises on escalations. This way, you can also protect your brand reputation by creating measurable SLAs that meet your business standards.
To achieve that clarity, define your expectations in a clear, quantifiable manner that leaves no room for dispute. Ask yourself these questions:
Have you agreed on acceptable measures for support quality, response rate, performance, etc.?
Have you specified expected dates for one-time events as opposed to quarterly/monthly reports for ongoing processes?
Have you established the limits for service failures?
Is the agreement likely to be revised and updated as your MSP scales and what is the process for that?
7. Is the helpdesk available 24x7x365? What’s its process for coverage in the case of holiday closures?
Most helpdesks fully cover nights and weekends, but you need to make sure the service provider you choose to partner with is able to meet your scheduling demands. Set expectations about working hours and ask them outright if they can commit to those shift patterns. Don’t forget to ask about their process for holidays, time off, etc. in order to clearly ensure that your MSP is fully covered all the times in your tier of service.
8. Does your helpdesk provide proper reporting to understand pain points and areas of improvement?
A reliable helpdesk always has detailed reporting capabilities because assessing statistics and analytics gives MSPs valuable insight into the helpdesk’s performance—it helps them prove their value to you. Reporting enables MSPs to easily see patterns that point towards high CSAT and KPIs that contribute to smooth operations and cost-efficiency. Ideally, helpdesk performance reports should include the average time expended in ticket response/resolution and the number of replies needed to close a ticket.
Slightly different, but related reporting should include metrics to be reviewed during weekly, monthly and quarterly business review meetings so both parties can discuss gaps and process-deficiencies as well as set service benchmarks for the upcoming quarter.
9. Is the helpdesk ITIL and/or SOC-2 certified? Will the helpdesk sign BAAs for HIPAA clients?
ITIL, the most widely used service management framework worldwide, is an integrated set of best practices and process framework for delivering IT support services. Similarly, a SOC 2 certified service partner securely manages your data to protect the interests of your organization and the privacy of your customer at a quantifiable level.
For process-oriented and security-conscious businesses such as MSPs, ITIL and SOC 2 compliance can be a minimal requirement. If HIPAA, PCI, or GDPR compliance is important to your MSP because of vertical focuses such as healthcare, education, retail or government, check if the helpdesk provider offers a service-level agreement (SLA) and a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) that guarantees the compliance you require.
10. Does the helpdesk have a well-defined onboarding process?
A smooth transition either from an internal service desk or from another IT outsourcing provider should not be stressful and disruptive. Hence, always review the onboarding process as part of the selection process so you know you’ll receive a smooth service launch as soon as you sign.
An ideal service provider has a standardized checklist to make sure all aspects of toolsets, documentation, and processes are touched on. With this, the onboarding process remains robust and in-d...

Can Games Paired With Brain Stimulation Boost Working Memory? – Medical News Today https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/can-games-paired-with-brain-stimulation-boost-working-memory-medical-news-today/

A person’s working memory is critically important for functioning in daily life.
Older people and those who have Parkinson’s disease, dementia, or who have had a stroke may experience a degradation of their working memory.
A new study finds that combining cognitive exercises and electrical brain stimulation can substantially strengthen working memory.
A person’s working memory may decline with age or if they have dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or have had a stroke. When this occurs, the loss can affect their day-to-day quality of life, turning even simple tasks into often-demoralizing challenges.
Prof. Gail Eskes explained working memory to Medical News Today, and why it is so important.
“Working memory is the brain’s mental scratchpad,” she noted, “and it can be used to keep in mind, and work with, a variety of different types of information.”
“For example,” she offered, “you use working memory when you are keeping in mind someone’s phone number once you’ve looked it up, or keeping in mind an image of a map of the city in order to plan a way to get to your destination.”
“Your working memory ability is important for all kinds of activities,” said Prof. Eskes, “such as reading a newspaper, doing math at a restaurant to figure out a tip, making decisions, and problem-solving.”
Prof. Eskes is a member of the Department of Psychiatry, Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, and Division of Neurology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She is the co-author of a new study describing a possible means of helping people regain their working memory.
Researchers from Dalhousie, the University of Trento in Italy, and Birmingham University in the United Kingdom contributed to the study, which found that cognitive training alongside transcranial direct current stimulation significantly strengthens working memory.
Dr. Jacqueline Becker, a clinical neuropsychologist and health services researcher at Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine in New York, who was not involved in the study, told MNT that “with working memory training, the brain can rewire and reorganize itself as a result of repeated training and practice.”
“This is based on neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain’s ability to change and adapt as a result of an experience,” Dr. Becker explained.
Similarly, she said, “[t]ranscranial direct current stimulation can also affect the brain’s plasticity, by activating and increasing activity within specific brain networks.”
In the study, the direct stimulation is provided by a light 2 milliAmpère electric current applied to the scalp.
The study appears in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience.
The study authors refer to their system as COGNISANT, which stands for “cognitive needs and skills training.”
The study’s senior author is assistant professor Dr. Sara Assecondi of the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences at the University of Trento. She explained how the two aspects of COGNISANT work together: “In our study, working memory training and brain stimulation target the same brain area — the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex — an area associated with processing spatial information.”
“The repetition of the same cognitive task, at a level of difficulty that is just enough to be challenging but still engaging, promotes brain plasticity […] Brain stimulation further boosts plasticity, giving cognitive training an extra ‘kick,’ particularly effective in those individuals who need it more.”
– Dr. Sara Assecondi
The memory training proposed in the study takes place online. Prof. Eskes, who developed it, explained how it works.
“With our software, one can train using a range of information, like hearing and working with numbers or words, or seeing and working with items in space, or landscape images, etc,” she told MNT.
“This training software was designed to help any adult who wants to enhance their capacity or efficiency of their working memory. It can be done anywhere using a computer with access to the internet,” she noted.
Participants in the study ranged in age from 55 to 76 years, a span that includes potential beneficiaries who may possess a range of online skills.
“We have tested it with adults and patients of all adult ages, and usually the training can be done independently, although different people have different levels of comfort with computer use,” said Prof. Eskes.
“For this study,” explained Prof. Eskes, “we used a therapeutic game we have named ‘N-Igma,’ and it uses the ‘n-back’ technique in which the players must keep track of a stream of information and indicate when they see a match to an item they saw ‘n’ turns ago,” where “n” represents an unspecified numerical value.
“The number of items they have to keep track of adapts to their performance, so they are working at a challenging, but not impossible, level. To keep it game-like and interesting, we also give them lots of feedback, and they can keep track of their score as they go along,” the researcher added.
“These therapeutic games are intensive and challenging, but we also try to keep it engaging and fun,” Prof. Eskes told us.
“We develop approaches to promote healthy aging, so our technique really may be useful to anyone who starts to experience some kind of memory decline,” said Dr. Assecondi.
“Although characterized by huge variability, the older healthy adults are the more likely they are to show a lower working memory, and that is when the combination of working memory training and brain stimulation is more effective,” she told us.
“From the results of the study, it can be inferred that older adults (greater than 69 years of age) with executive dysfunction may derive the most benefit,” noted Dr. Becker.
It may also be that COGNISANT is most appropriate for people whose working memory has declined beyond a certain threshold, although what that threshold might be is unclear for now.
“With the data available,” said Dr. Assecondi, “it’s difficult to estimate an ‘optimal’ level of working memory loss for the approach to be effective. Indeed, this would be important information for future development and use within the healthy population.”
“We would need to collect a large amount of data to obtain a fair representative sample of the healthy population, and this is indeed something we would be interested in exploring,” she added.
“With my group,” she said, “using state-of-the-art statistical approaches, I am working on ways to predict the effectiveness of cognitive intervention from baseline abilities, but we are still in the early stage.”
“There is still much research to do,” acknowledged Dr. Assecondi, “but from our work and that of other laboratories around the world, we know that the combination of cognitive training and brain stimulation holds promise, not only in slowing down the cognitive decline of healthy adults, but also in clinical populations.”
“I hope to contribute to developing an effective low-cost technique that can be used at home and tailored to the individual’s specific needs, reaching those who would otherwise be unable to access such technology,” she said.
The authors are now working with the University of Birmingham and Dalhousie University to identify partners who can help bring COGNISANT to market.
“Home-care technology will ultimately allow individuals to take therapy into their own hands,” concluded Dr. Assecondi, “empowering them to age according to their terms.”

Goldenberry Farms Expands Investment Into Soil Health & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs FreshPlaza.com
Goldenberry Farms Expands Investment Into Soil Health & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs – FreshPlaza.com https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/goldenberry-farms-expands-investment-into-soil-health-corporate-social-responsibility-csr-programs-freshplaza-com/
Goldenberry Farms, a leading grower and exporter of Sugar Mangos, berries, and tropical fruit, announces new investments and expansion of sustainable-farming programs, including soil health and carbon bank initiatives, under its “Where good things Grow” sustainable-farming initiative.
The program was initially inspired by “Kiss the Ground” a Netflix documentary on soil health hosted by Woody Harrelson, which focuses on soil rehabilitation as a viable solution to averting a climate and food crisis.
According to the documentary, soil mismanagement is a pending societal and ecological disaster. Fortunately, it’s an issue that can be fixed if we can simply modernize age-old commercial farming practices. When dirt is transformed into soil through a regenerative agriculture process, it’s also the solution. The documentary was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival, and now is being put into practice by some growers and commercial agriculture companies.
The core principles of regenerative agriculture include responsible management of land through reduced tilling, limits on nitrogen fertilizers, use of cover crops, and prioritization of animal and plant diversity.
There are many ways to create fresher produce with more vitamins and minerals retained without resorting to dangerous chemicals or factory-farm processes. By working with Mother Nature, and the soil and plant technology, our team is able to develop fresh produce for the end consumer faster, fresher, and at a fair price.
“The newly-expanded agronomy team at Goldenberry Farms (GBF) is focused on a singular philosophy for our fields – the fact that naturally healthy, “living” soil makes for healthier and disease-resistant plants, which make for healthier fruit – harvested at a precise time and packing process that helps to preserve the nutrients, freshness, and longevity,” commented Juliana Lopez, Goldenberry Farms Operations Director for Colombia.
“We have added to our agronomy team microbiologists and soil scientists, leading our efforts to study and build healthy soil via composting while adding essential carbon to the earth. As a commercial grower and provider to top grocers across the world, Goldenberry Farms is very proud to be a leader in the soil science and carbon capture fields.”
Goldenberry Farms continues to test and develop regional soil health and topsoil development programs, in both active agriculture as well as “damaged” soil areas. Using microbes, and “smart compost” which is made from locally sourced ingredients to restore and develop a rich layer of topsoil. A double compost system is utilized, including a locally formed “solid” compost, complimented by an organic living liquid compost which is applied to both plants and soil.

MIAMI (AP) — Fifty years ago, members of the 1972 Dolphins team lifted fiery coach Don Shula onto their shoulders for a victory lap out of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, celebrating not just a Super Bowl victory over Washington, but an emphatic exclamation point on the NFL’s only perfect season.
Not that the Dolphins ever spoke of perfection. Mere mention of the word felt taboo.

Even though they weren’t chasing perfection at the time, they ended up accomplishing something that no team since has repeated. (AP Photo, File)
“I can’t imagine somebody whispering to somebody and Coach Shula happening to overhear the fact that, ‘Hey, guess what! We’re 11-0,’” said starting offensive tackle Doug Crusan. “Oh my goodness, couldn’t do that.”
They did the unspeakable anyway, going 17-0 for a mark that could stand another 50 years or more given the parity and length of the modern NFL season. The 2007 New England Patriots came close, going 18-0 before a Super Bowl loss. This year, the 6-0 Philadelphia Eagles are the last remaining threat — with a long way to go.
Those ’72 Dolphins shined in an era before trades and ongoing player movement between teams leveled the playing field. Roster restrictions could have just as easily worked against them, though.

Even though they weren’t chasing perfection at the time, they ended up accomplishing something that no team since has repeated. (AP Photo, File)
One bad injury might have derailed that magical season, and one nearly did. Miami starting quarterback Bob Griese broke his right leg and dislocated his ankle in Week 5. Fortunately for the Dolphins, they had a powerful running game behind Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris and Jim Kiik.
They were also motivated — not by perfection, but atonement. They’d lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl the season before and sought redemption, proof that the previous season, despite many opinions, wasn’t a fluke.
They didn’t know at the time they were becoming one of the NFL’s highest symbols of accomplishment.
“The confidence built as each week went by,” Crusan said. “We got stronger and stronger. And of course, you go into the playoffs and you never know what’s going to happen with those three games. We just got better and better and better as the season went on.”
To achieve perfection, they strove to be as close to polished as possible. And Shula, known for his inflammatory temper, pushed them there, reminding them often of that Super Bowl loss.
“Losing was a great motivator for Don Shula. He hated it, and he wanted his players to hate it,” said Joe Horrigan, a pro football historian and former executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “He said, ‘You remember that bad taste in your mouth? Keep it.’ That was his philosophy.”
Training was intense. They’d sometimes practice three or four times a day.
“I was worn out mentally as well as physically,” said defensive back Charlie Babb, a rookie that year. “Just the long season and the type of practices and the type of pressure that Shula and the coaching staff put on you to be perfect.”
As perfect as they tried to be, they also needed to be lucky. They didn’t blow teams out, and there were a couple close calls. One of their biggest tests came in the playoffs against the Cleveland Browns on Christmas Eve.
The Browns held a 14-13 lead with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. Miami hadn’t trailed that late in a game since Week 3.
Behind backup quarterback Earl Morrall, in for the injured Griese, the Dolphins used a 35-yard catch by Paul Warfield to set up an 8-yard touchdown run by Kiik to move to 15-0.
“The ball has to bounce your way in just about every game,” said Larry Seiple, a punter. “There were games that we had chances to lose, as well as win.”
Seiple said he doesn’t believe that another perfect season will happen, at least not in his lifetime.
Free agency and trades have expedited the ability to move players around, creating more parity. And with 17-game regular seasons, Horrigan believes going undefeated isn’t as big a priority as getting to the postseason.
“You hear the cliché ‘One game at a time,’” Horrigan said. “No one’s thinking, ‘Let’s win 10 in a row.’ I don’t think anybody would be shooting for it.”
Horrigan added that it’s especially hard to go undefeated with the advances in technology, especially replay.
“I told Don Shula this once, I said ‘You know, if there were instant replay, you might not have been undefeated,’” he said. “There were mistakes made just as there are now, but it would go unnoticed. As close as some of those games were, one play could have made a big difference.”
The 2007 Patriots, with quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick, got to the brink of matching Miami. The New York Giants ruined that in the Super Bowl — and with it, spoiled the best chance in several generations to witness perfection.
“If any team was going to do it, I thought that team with that quarterback would be the one,” longtime NFL defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said.
The 1985 Chicago Bears went 18-1 on their way to winning the Super Bowl. The one loss? To Miami, 38-24 victors over the Bears in a Monday night classic where the Dolphins simply would not allow another team to be perfect on its watch.
Akron in 1920, and Canton in 1922 and 1923, both were undefeated champions — but all those clubs also tied at least one game. They weren’t perfect.
This season, the Eagles are the NFL’s last undefeated team behind quarterback Jalen Hurts. They have wins over the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys under their belt.
With a remaining schedule that includes just four teams with winning records, many believe that the Eagles have an open path to the Super Bowl. FanDuel Sports Book currently lists their season win over-under bet at 13.5.
But only the Miami Dolphins can say perfect.
“It’s not easy,” Seiple said. “Most teams, you start out with that idea, and as the season goes on you start to lose some players because of injuries, it kind of slips through your fingers.”

Commenting on the auction, Terry Lee, Head of Art at Coinllectibles, said, “When we were planning the inaugural DOT auction in Singapore, we toyed with the possibility of working with well-known auction houses from abroad. However, we want to directly add value to the Singapore and Asia art scenes. We strongly believe that bespoke auction houses – like 33 Auction, have an important role to play in the development of a vibrant regional art ecosystem. After some consideration, we concluded that 33 Auction is an ideal partner to help us achieve our desired outcome.”
Founded in 1999, 33 Auction is one of Singapore’s leading boutique auction houses in the Asian Contemporary Arts Scene with branches in Singapore, Indonesia and China. One of the more notable achievements saw 33 Auction selling Liu Kang’s Street Scene painting – Singapore Trengganu Street for more than 80% above the estimated price during the 2019 Singapore Art Week Auction. Liu Kang was a renowned Singaporean artist known for his Balinese-themed figurative painting and that auction helped set a record price of S$183,000 (US$128,873) for his paintings.
Commenting on the collaboration with Coinllectibles, David Fu, the Director at 33 Auctions, said, “I am very intrigued with the idea of digital ownership tokens. As a director of an auction house, I can certainly see a lot of potential uses for it. One thing that caught my attention is how auction winners can immediately put the DOTs up for sale in NFT market places. If this works the way that it should, it will definitely make it easier for enthusiasts to collect arts and collectibles. In addition, it will give the whole art ecosystem access to new groups of young collectors – those who previously may not have considered investing in traditional arts and collectibles.”
The inaugural arts and collectibles DOT auction by Coinllectibles & 33 Auction is a free event. However, attendees will be required to register in order to participate and bid during the auction. For more information, please refer to the information below.

Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million Cryptonews
Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/shiba-inu-price-prediction-as-shib-trading-volume-blasts-past-100-million-cryptonews/
Shiba Inu price is in the process of validating a crucial bullish pattern, likely to send it up 16.25% from the breakout point to $0.00001208. As previously discussed, the second-largest meme coin rebounded after tagging support at $0.000000960.
Shiba Inu Price Eyes A 16% Move Amid A Trading Volume Blast
Shiba Inu’s trading volume zoomed past the $100 million mark, brushing shoulders with $135 million over the last 24 hours. The surge in volume across exchanges comes just days after the tech giant Google announced support for SHIB payments following a strategic partnership with Coinbase.
According to live price data from CoinMarketCap, SHIB’s trading volume is up 19.72%. Centralized exchanges (CEXs) account for $133 million of the volume, with decentralized exchanges (DEXs) bringing in only $2 million.
Shiba Inu Price Prediction: Forecasting A Sustainable Bullish Move
An inverse head-and-shoulders (H&S) pattern on the four-hour chart could be the motive behind the high trading volume. This highly bullish pattern often leads to a bullish trend reversal.
The left shoulder (valley) appears first, followed by a longer valley (head), and the pattern matures with a second higher valley (shoulder). Traders usually look for long positions when trading this pattern. Its breakout target is the distance between the head and the neckline.
SHIB/USD four-hour chart
Shiba Inu price is now trading slightly below the neckline resistance. A break above that same level is necessary to ascertain the validity of the trend.
Meanwhile, the 50-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) is in line to give SHIB immediate support at $0.00001030. The MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) dons a buy signal on the same four-hour chart. In other words, a bullish outcome is looking likely based on these indicators.
The MVRV (market value realized value), an on-chain metric by Santiment, shows that investors consider SHIB to be in a buy zone. An MVRV reading below the mean line (0.00) infers that the Shiba Inu price is undervalued.
With that in mind, investors are unlikely to sell until the MVRV returns above the mean line. In other words, there is a higher probability that demand will increase, and SHIB will move north to validate a 16.25% breakout to $0.00001208.
Shiba Inu MVRV Ratio
The bear market seems strong and far from over owing to the unhealthy global economic environment. Traders should consider booking early profits to avoid bull traps, especially when insight from the IOMAP model by IntoTheBlock is considered.
Shiba Inu IOMAP chart
From the above chart, Shiba Inu price recovery could fade at $0.00001100. Approximately 23,200 addresses purchased 67.33 trillion SHIB tokens around this area. As the price recovers, these holders may sell to breakeven, which builds downward pressure.
Meme Coin Alternative: Tamadoge (TAMA)
Given Shiba Inu’s large supply, holders will likely be waiting a long time for SHIB to hit $1 per coin.
An alternative project, Tamadoge has a 275,000x smaller circulating supply, meaning TAMA requires much less effort to reach $1 than other meme coins on the market, including even DOGE.
Analysts believe that Tamadoge is still one of the best-positioned meme tokens on the market due to its popular NFT drops and upcoming Metaverse projects.

WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury on Tuesday said it was proposing a new rule to collect data on climate-related risks from property and casualty insurers, one of the first concrete actions in a new push to beef up financial regulation to help fight global warming.
The Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office said in a Federal Register notice that it was seeking public comment on the proposal, under which it would collect current and historical underwriting data on homeowners’ insurance.
The zip-code level data would provide the insurance office with “consistent, granular, and comparable insurance data needed to help assess the potential for major disruptions of private insurance coverage in regions of the country that are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.”

The move comes less than three weeks after Hurricane Ian devastated Fort Myers Beach and other parts of Florida’s southwest coast, causing billions of dollars in both uninsured and insured damage and pushing some insurers to forecast financial losses.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has pressed U.S. financial regulators to make assessment of climate change risks a normal part of their everyday work, including a demand that companies increase disclosures of such risks to investors.
Treasury said the proposed data collection rule would help the Federal Insurance Office to assess both the availability of insurance for millions of Americans as well as the affordability of such insurance.
“Today’s action by the Federal Insurance Office is an important step in determining how Americans are being affected by the increasing costs of climate change,” Yellen said in a statement. “The recent impacts in Florida from Hurricane Ian demonstrate the critical nature of this work and the need for an increased understanding of insurance market vulnerabilities in the United States.”

Multinational banking group selects Oracle Exadata [email protected] to simplify operational management and leverage cloud automation
, /PRNewswire/ — Oracle CloudWorld — Oracle and HSBC, one of the world’s largest financial services organizations, today announced a strategic collaboration to accelerate the bank’s digital transformation.
Under the multi-year agreement, HSBC will upgrade and migrate select database systems to Oracle Exadata [email protected], a cloud platform delivered as a managed infrastructure service in HSBC’s own data centers. The deployment will help support and scale the bank’s mission-critical systems and services.
Oracle Exadata [email protected] is an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) service that provides a secure, highly-available cloud platform that enables HSBC to continue to use Oracle databases in support of its critical systems while retaining control of its data governance, thereby meeting data locality and security regulations. The Oracle platform will also enable HSBC to more easily bring cloud automation to manage legacy applications, and easily scale services according to customer and local-market demands.
The collaboration contributes to HSBC’s multi-year initiative to transform its technology infrastructure to speed up the development, delivery and scaling of new products and services; make its products more secure and available; and build digital capabilities and skills across its workforce.
“Our strategy is to digitize the bank at scale, so that we can innovate faster for customers, and our collaboration with Oracle is important in advancing this transformation agenda,” said Frank McGrath, Chief Technology Officer, HSBC. “We chose Exadata [email protected] primarily for its ability to offer well known databases, with the benefit of a database-as-a-service platform, giving us the performance and operational agility we need as we continue to grow and diversify our business.”
“Financial organizations are rapidly adopting new technologies and transforming their operations as they tap into new market opportunities while meeting more demanding data locality and privacy requirements,” said Richard Smith, executive vice president, Technology, EMEA, Oracle. “Our partnership with HSBC is based on achieving this balance, enabling it to consolidate critical systems on a secure, scalable on-premises cloud platform and develop cloud-based services faster. We look forward to our collaboration with HSBC as we help deliver the next generation of financial services.”

Roccat Vulcan II Mini Review: A Compact And Colourful Keyboard Pocket-Lint
Roccat Vulcan II Mini Review: A Compact And Colourful Keyboard – Pocket-Lint https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/roccat-vulcan-ii-mini-review-a-compact-and-colourful-keyboard-pocket-lint/
(Pocket-lint) – Roccat has been creating some interesting and visually appealing keyboards of late.
The Roccat Vulcan II Mini is one of the more recent additions to the line-up, joining the Roccat Vulcan TKL Pro and others in the company’s line-up of compact keyboards.
Does the Vulcan II Mini continue Roccat’s trend of crafting awesome keyboards though? We’ve been gaming with it to find out.
Best gaming keyboards: The best quiet, loud, colourful and proud mechanical keyboards around
Pocket-lint
Our quick take
The Roccat Vulcan II Mini is another great keyboard from Roccat. It’s well laid out and feature-rich too, despite its size. It’s great looking with some fantastic RGB and much more besides. We’re big fans of game mode and Easy-Shift but also just the general typing and gaming experience.
If you want a small form factor keyboard with plenty on offer, then this might well be it. Our only complaint is the volume of the typing experience.
For
Compact form factor
Logical layout
Extra keys in clever place
Superb RGB lighting
Comfortable typing experience
squirrel_widget_12856352
Compact 65% form factor but with smarts
65% form factor
1,000 Hz polling rate
Detachable USB-C cable
As you might have gathered from the name, the Roccat Vulcan II Mini is a compact keyboard with a 65% form factor. This usually means you have to sacrifice various keys in favour of a smaller design. However, Roccat has given this some good thought and it’s the little thing that make the difference here.
We always struggle to get on with 65% keyboards. The loss of arrow keys or the delete key or other keys being buried in a function row can make them a pain to work on, even if they are a pleasure for gaming. Not so here though, as the DEL key is kept up there next to the backspace button and you still have directional arrows too.
With a function key press, you can access other things like print screen and media controls with relative ease. You can adjust RGB lighting, switch profiles and activate game mode as well. Which in itself then opens up Easy-Shift, but more on that later.
So our initial impressions were actually really good. The Vulcan II Mini was keeping us happy when working and didn’t lead to any frustrations during everyday typing, which is an important part of any keyboard design.
The other thing about the design that’s immediately obvious is the raised switch design along with the thin keycaps.
Pocket-lint
This is beneficial because it lets the RGB lighting shine wonderfully, but it also means that it’ll be far easier to keep this keyboard clean over time. All you’ll need is some compressed air and any food, hair or dust will be blown out easily.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the large gap between the keycaps might cause some issues with typing, but we actually found we adapted to the design really quickly, even after just swapping over from the full-size ultra low-profile Corsair K1000 Air.
Pocket-lint
Dual-LED key switch design
Dual-LED setup
TITAN II optical red switches
Smooth linear feel, 1.4 mm Actuation Point, 3.6 mm Travel Distance
Full Key (NKRO) with 100% Anti-Ghosting
Like other Roccat keyboards, the Roccat Vulcan II Mini is far from quiet. It’s not a horrid noise, there’s no ping or horrid rattle as you type but there certainly are a lot of click-clack sounds. We will say the switches aren’t as noisy as Cherry MX Blue’s or Brown’s, but they’re far from quiet.
There are some points of interest about the setup here though, the Vulcan II Mini uses Roccat’s Titan II optical red switches. They’re linear and actuate at just 1.4mm, so they’re fast and responsive for gaming and accurate too. We found this keyboard to be pleasantly responsive and had no issues when gaming or working.
Pocket-lint
The keyboard is also curious because of its dual-LED switches setup. This is said to be a world first and essentially adds in an extra set of LEDs to the keys, but only to certain keys. Any key on the keyboard that has a secondary action as standard, for example, the number keys that also double as F keys, has an additional LED. When you press the FN button, the main LED dims and the second one brightens. This means you can easily see the secondary action of those keys, even when it’s dark.
It’s a shame this is only on the select keys on the keyboard as it would really enhance the lighting as a whole if the entire keyboard had double the amount of LEDs but it’s an interesting design.
Pocket-lint
More than just snazzy RGB
Like the other Roccat keyboards we’ve seen over the last couple of years, the Vulcan II Mini is fantastic for a number of reasons. One of them is almost certainly the RGB lighting. There are various options available in the software so you can customise the lighting, but you can also adjust lighting with hardware buttons and switch between modes by changing profiles too.
There are other features that aren’t immediately obvious but also make this keyboard a delight. If you press the FN+Win keys are the same time this activates game mode. As with other keyboards, this disables the Windows key to stop you from activating the start menu by accident in the middle of a gamer. But it’s more than that. It also then turns the caps lock button into an Easy-Shift button. The usual caps lock functionality is then disabled, but when you press the caps button you can then access other actions that you’d programmed in the Roccat’s Swarm software.
This means that you can then access a whole bunch of other actions including macros that you can program up and use whenever the need arises. Handy for a keyboard with less keys, but not necessarily less functionality.
squirrel_widget_12856352
To recap
This is another great-looking keyboard from Roccat and if you’re a fan of smaller form factor keyboards then this might tick a few different boxes.

Despite Sanctions Kremlin Spokesmans Wife Vacationing In Israel The Jerusalem Post
Despite Sanctions, Kremlin Spokesman’s Wife Vacationing In Israel – The Jerusalem Post https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/despite-sanctions-kremlin-spokesmans-wife-vacationing-in-israel-the-jerusalem-post/
Russia is bombarding Ukraine and Vladimir Putin is continuing to push forward with his invasion of the country. Nevertheless, at a time when sanctions have been imposed on top Russian officials, the wife of one of them was reportedly spotted sunbathing in Tel Aviv in recent days.
Tatiana Navka, a former Olympic champion and the wife of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, has reportedly been on a private vacation in Israel over the last few days and was staying in Tel Aviv.
The news comes as Israel faces criticism for being too lenient on Russia despite the ongoing war crimes against Ukraine. Israel has also faced criticism for failing to supply weapons to Ukraine.
Navka, who is a 2006 Olympic figure skater champion and a two-time World champion, was staying at the Kempinski Hotel in Tel Aviv, Ynet reported based on information it said it received from the “Israeli Friends of Ukraine” association.

In March, Navka was included on a list of nationals sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury as part of the international sanctions against Russians over the war in Ukraine and due to her husband. Peskov had been blacklisted earlier because of his key role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In June, Navka was also sanctioned by the European Union.
“Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war still encounter difficulties to enter Israel, but the wife of Putin’s spokesman is in Israel without any problem,” Anna Zarov, founder of the “Israeli Friends of Ukraine” association, told Ynet.
Peskov has served as Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson since 2008. In this capacity, according to the US State Department, “he has played a key role in propaganda and disinformation campaigns to cover up the Kremlin’s links to the 2006 polonium poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Alexander Litvinenko, the 2018 Novichok poisoning of former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skirpal and his daughter Yulia, and the 2020 Novichok poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.”

The State Department said that serving Putin has been lucrative for Peskov, and despite being a civil servant for his entire career, he and his family are multimillionaires.
According to the Department of the Treasury, members of Peskov’s family have a real estate empire worth more than $10 million, a number of luxury vehicles, and travel regularly on private aircraft and yachts.
“While some say that it never pays to lie, in Peskov’s case it certainly seems like it did,” the US government said.

October 18 — Luxury handbag designer Marina Raphael has launched today her newest capsule collection in collaboration with Eugenie Niarchos, Creative Director of Venyx World. What’s more — the bag is also available digitally in Metaverse as an NFT.
Having established her eponymous label in 2018, Raphael’s range of bags has stayed true to the brand’s sophisticated and timeless aesthetics whilst also appealing to a contemporary fan base with creative and glamorous elements. A sixth generation member of the Swarovski family, Raphael’s design also sees the utilization of sparkles and crystals in abundance.
Courtesy of Marina Raphael
In true MR fashion, the new style features clean lines, robust silhouette and well-crafted details. Minimalist in shape, maximalist in the detail, the Venyx bag is contrary by nature and paradoxical in concept — a reflection of the two female entrepreneurs’ mutual appreciation in elevated design and gem stones, as well as a sense of futuristic innovation.
The designers shared in notes that the piece “was conceived to exude a perpetual contrast between traditional leather goods creation and construction.” From its sleek and a tad conservative box-style design, its adorable miniature size and statement metal hardware, to the dazzling color variations of the crystals — the Venyx shape is set to become an instant classic, a bag that resembles a space-age jewelry box that is ideal for keeping secrets and life’s essentials.
Courtesy of Marina Raphael
In partnership with Niftify, an NFT marketplace and Web3 platform, the collaboration also sees Raphael venturing for the first time into the immersive virtual world of Metaverse with her inaugural launch of NFTs. The first ten customers to buy the physical bag online will be rewarded with a unique NFT, featuring an animation of the bag opening to unleash an outpouring of virtual gems.
The NFTs unlock exclusive experiences and products including:
– A limited edition rainbow crystal choker designed by Eugenie Niarchos, of which there are only ten in the world;
– Attendance of upcoming private events that include pop-up stores, trunk shows, parties, sales events etc.;
– Early access to product launches and exclusive collaborations;
– Priority access for upcoming collections;
– Unique Skins for future Metaverse integrations;
– Personalization of a signature Marina Raphael design in collaboration with the designer.

Terra Developers Propose $250 Million Ecosystem Funding Program – Cryptonews https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/terra-developers-propose-250-million-ecosystem-funding-program-cryptonews/

The developers behind the remnants of the fallen Terra (LUNA) network have unveiled an ecosystem funding program worth some LUNA 95 million ($248 million), seeking to encourage developers, miners and users to develop the troubled ecosystem.
“This program will be funded with the 9.5% of the total LUNA supply that was earmarked at the launch of the new Terra chain. This incentive program will run for 4 years and will be managed by a community-elected committee that will be evaluated every 12 months,” according to the proposal.
Under the plan, the project will consist of four initiatives: a developer grants program of LUNA 20 million, a developer mining program comprising LUNA 20 million, a liquidity incentive mining program covering LUNA 50 million over a four-year period, and a user incentive program of LUNA 5 million, the proposal states.
It is noteworthy that Terra Luna Classic has established itself as one of the most traded crypto assets in the market in the past weeks, with the token’s trading volume reaching $400 million. Major exchange Binance has played an important role in LUNC’s spiking volume after its CEO Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao announced a Terra Luna Classic token burn undertaking on September 26.
Terra Luna Classic’s token burn, scheduled to start every Tuesday, got rid of 5.5 billion LUNC tokens in the week that ended October 3. A further 2.9 billion LUNC were burned in the week that started on October 4 and ended on October 10.

CHICAGO, Oct 18 (Reuters) – A near-record number of U.S. chickens and turkeys have died in this year’s outbreak of avian flu, as a different form of the virus than farmers battled before has infected more wild birds that then transmit the disease, officials said.
More than 47 million birds have died due to infections and cullings. This has spurred export bans, lowered egg and turkey production, and contributed to record prices of the staples ahead of the U.S. holiday season. The outbreak exacerbates economic pain for consumers grappling with soaring inflation.
In 2015, 50.5 million birds died in the deadliest U.S. outbreak, the nation’s worst animal-health event to date.

Farmers are fighting a subtype of the H5N1 strain of the virus that survived over the summer, when rising temperatures typically reduce avian flu, said Rosemary Sifford, chief veterinary officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The same subtype, known as the goose/Guangdong lineage, is spreading in Europe, she said in an interview. Europe is already suffering its worst avian flu crisis, with nearly 50 million poultry culled.
Officials are finding the subtype in a broader range of wild birds, such as ducks, than in the past and it seems to live in the birds longer, Sifford said. An elevated threat for infections may persist until summer 2023 as they migrate, she said.
The United States is monitoring wild birds for avian flu in four migration paths known as flyways, up from two previously, and plans to do the same next year.
“This virus could be present in wild birds for the foreseeable future,” Sifford said. “This one is certainly different.”
The outbreak has infected flocks in 42 states since February, twice as many as in 2015, USDA records show. Infections slowed over the summer this year but did not stop as they did in 2015.
The tenacity of the virus surprised some producers, who have boosted cleaning and security in barns since the 2015 outbreak.
“Unfortunately what we’ve done probably hasn’t been enough to protect us from this high load of virus in the wild bird population,” Sifford said.
RECORD TURKEY PRICES
Minnesota, the nation’s top turkey-producing state, suffered infections in two commercial flocks in late August after going three months without cases, USDA data show. The state then saw more cases in September.
“Seeing a spike in August was not something that was expected,” said Ashley Kohls, executive director of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association.
After infections, it takes about six months to decontaminate farms and resume turkey production, Kohls said.
Minnesota-based Hormel Foods Corp (HRL.N), owner of the Jennie-O Turkey Store brand, said it expects avian flu to reduce its turkey production at least through March 2023.
“We’ve worked really hard but clearly this is still an issue,” Hormel CEO James Snee said on a conference call last month.
Retail prices for fresh boneless, skinless turkey breast reached a record $6.70 per pound last month, up 112% from a year earlier and 14% above the previous record from 2015, the American Farm Bureau said.
Turkey meat production this year is set to drop 6% from 2021 to 5.2 billion pounds, according to the USDA.
U.S. farmers, who face high costs for feed and labor, were already cutting production before the outbreak due to declining profits. Inventories of turkey breasts in cold storage facilities reached a record low this year, USDA data show.
Indiana turkey farmer Greg Gunthorp said grocers, online retailers and other buyers have called searching for whole turkeys and breasts. Antibiotic-free turkey breasts are selling for $7-$9 per pound wholesale, compared to about $3 before the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
“The turkey market right now is the craziest I’ve ever seen it,” Gunthorp said.
Infections in flocks have triggered export restrictions on U.S. poultry, further hurting producers. China, a major buyer, has blocked poultry from entire states with confirmed cases and is taking longer than it should to lift the bans, the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council said.
China this month suspended poultry imports from Arkansas, the third-biggest producer of chickens raised for meat, after the state reported its first infection of the year, USDA records show. The state’s agriculture secretary, Wes Ward, said he had hoped Arkansas could avoid the disease.
“The virus has changed,” Ward said. “Hopefully it’s one of those where the virus will burn itself out after a year or so and maybe things will calm down again.”

Twitch And YouTube Streamers Made Gaming Network G4TV Obsolete Quartz
Twitch And YouTube Streamers Made Gaming Network G4TV Obsolete – Quartz https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/twitch-and-youtube-streamers-made-gaming-network-g4tv-obsolete-quartz/
The experiment is over: After 11 months in full operation, G4TV is shutting down operations. The gaming entertainment network’s closure comes just a month after the network laid off as many as 30 members of its team to cut costs.
The shuttering of the network is yet another sign that traditional television networks for gaming—whether broadcast on cable, streaming apps, or across social media—face almost insurmountable challenges from networks built around user-generated content such as Twitch.
On Sunday, Deadline published a memo from Comcast Spectacor, the parent company of G4TV. “Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results,” wrote Comcast Spectacor CEO Dave Scott. “This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.”
Failing to win back its audience
The original G4TV cable TV network focused on gamer culture through a mix of news, variety shows, and comedic skits. Operating from 2002 until 2014, it was the first to showcase celebrities like Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse, The Predator) and technology investor Kevin Rose, who went on to start his own network, Revision3, and the social media site Digg. Eventually, Comcast-owned NBC Universal, the arm of the company that helped launch G4TV, announced its end in 2014.
After relaunching in November 2021, the plan included bringing back old shows like Attack of the Show! and X-Play, as well as original show hosts Kevin Pereira and Adam Sessler. G4TV knew it couldn’t survive using its old broadcast model at a time when games are live, participatory events (every month, 8 million independent gamers on Twitch stream videos to 31 million fans daily).
So G4TV’s CEO Russell Arons set out to marry its broadcast model with the chatty, live-streaming approach of platforms like Twitch, which have much lower staffing and production costs than traditional television networks.
“In terms of what we are doing that is different from the original G4, it’s in part that we are having more ways to reach our fans than ever before. Old G4: cable TV. New G4: everywhere gamers are,” Arons told Quartz in October of 2021, just prior to the network’s full relaunch schedule. “[We have] an important strategic partnership with Twitch. [We have] unique video that goes on our YouTube channels. And then the power of reaching a wide group of folks on cable and linear. So distribution really is reinventing how we’re both reaching fans, but also our content.”
But reviving the gaming network was a risky bet. The network’s small following, mostly 18- to 34-year-old men obsessed with technology and gaming, meant it could only capture a fraction of the 62 million homes where it was available.
And G4TV may have learned too heavily on nostalgia. It hoped to attract new viewers through its credibility as a pioneer in gaming video content. But G4TV’s audience, once niche, has evolved. Gaming culture is now mainstream, attracting 227 million gamers in the US alone, many of whom interact on social platforms such as Twitch and YouTube. It’s also evolved demographically—with roughly 48% of gamers (pdf) identifying as women in 2022.
For many, G4TV held little cachet.
Competing with user-generated content is difficult under the old network model
G4TV had big plans. It was aiming to marry its old television distribution approach with the new era of streaming. Arons also revealed that there were also plans to become an active extension of Comcast’s Spectacor eSports efforts, and joint the NFT space popularized by games like Axie Infinity.
But it wasn’t enough. After almost a year of broadcasting, G4TV’s Twitch and YouTube channels failed to reach even 200,000 subscribers. Most videos on its YouTube channels reached just a few thousand viewers. That compares to Twitch’s 2.6 million concurrent viewers across the gamer-focused site in 2022.

Walt Disney World Resort Update for October 18-24, 2022

Writer’s Note, News & Views
Following last week’s change to Genie+ pricing (it’s now set dynamically by date rather than a fixed amount), it has been another quiet week for news around Walt Disney World Resort. Disney did share the less-than-specific news that the revised version of Fantasmic! will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in November (following the announcement earlier this year that the show would return before the end of 2022).
The good news for those cast members (and us locals) that approach the Resort from the northeast via Reams Road this week is that the flooding between Bay Court and Magic Kingdom cast parking subsided sufficiently for Orange County to finally reopen the road this week for the first time since September 28 and the approach of Hurricane Ian. On the whole now, the Resort has fully returned to pre-Hurricane Ian operations. Of course, the tropical storm season continues through the end of November and storms do not know how to read calendars, so it remains important to keep tuned in for weather events as we head into Florida’s typically dry winter season.
Views Around the World
With the summer heat and humidity further fading now that fall is underway, I again made it over to three of the parks this past weekend and even took the long walk from Magic Kingdom to main parking via Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (and the new detour around the DVC construction that is underway). All of the parks were busy during my visits, so whatever lull in attendance that fall brought in the past was not evident when I was there.
Magic Kingdom and Vicinity
With Halloween about two weeks away, I noticed that the entrance to Magic Kingdom has already begun a slight transformation to Christmas: the Mickey head floral bed seems to consist of the winter holidays’ traditional red poinsettias. Photo by Alan S. Dalinka.
With the TRON Lightcycle Run attraction expected to open in the Spring, pavement installation is now evident in this new expansion of Tomorrowland beyond the Speedway.
Railroad tracks have been reinstalled around Tomorrowland and through a new tunnel under the TRON Lightcycle Run canopy.
Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. is closed for refurbishment and its exterior look continues to evolve. This “exit through the gift shop” for Space Mountain likely will also serve as a merchandise location for TRON Lightcycle Run when it opens.
The Walt Disney World Railroad remains closed because of the on-going construction of TRON Lightcycle Run.
Next to the Fantasyland station, the railroad track re-installation remains incomplete.

The walkway from Disney’s Grand Floridian to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort now detours away from Seven Seas Lagoon due to the construction of the new Disney Vacation Club tower on the former site of the Spirit of Aloha luau dinner theater.
Detour signs lead guests walking between the two resorts through Disney’s Wedding Pavilion’s parking lot.
To walk between Disney’s Grand Floridian and Polynesian Resorts, guest must now cross Floridian Way twice. A new crosswalk has been painted across Floridian Way at the exit to the Wedding Pavilion’s parking lot.
Guests walking between the two resorts now share the path with the golf cart path along the Floridian Way side of the Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.
The Magnolia Golf Course itself is undergoing a major reimagination right now as well.
Guests cross Floridian Way near Disney’s Polynesian Resort where the golf cart path crosses the road.
The detour between the resorts ends where the existing Polynesian longhouses stand.

Further south along Floridian Way where it approaches the Speedway Auto Center and World Drive, construction has finally resumed on the flyover ramps that began long-before the pandemic and its temporary shutdown of the resort. Photo by Alan S. Dalinka.

EPCOT

Back downstairs in the Imagination! pavilion, I noticed Bing Bong appearing on the walls from time to time for the first time. Photo by Alan S. Dalinka.
Steel framing for the future CommuniCore Hall (festival center) is visible from all over the west side of the park.
From the monorail around the former Future World section of the park, guests can see quite a bit of ongoing construction now.
The area where the Fountain of Nations formerly stood remains an active construction area.
The future CommuniCore Hall (festival center) construction can be seen from the monorail as it heads to the station.
The future Journey of Water inspired by Moana walk-through attraction continues to take shape ahead of its expected debut sometime next year.
Some of the rock work for Journey of Water already shows some finer details.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Since our last Update, Disney got slightly more specific as to when the updated version of Fantasmic! will open: November.
Socially distanced Donald was again appearing near the park’s entrance this weekend.
Although about a third of the Cairo set was not on stage during a performance of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular on Sunday (along with about a third of the usual show), Indy and Marion stunt doubles still took a major leap off one of the towers.
Exterior construction at the Roundup Rodeo BBQ table service restaurant continues. I hope that the “backyard” theme of Toy Story Land is restored to this area and the administration building beyond the restaurant is once again hidden when construction is complete. Disney has not shared an opening date for this restaurant that was originally announced for a 2020 debut.
When browsing the stores of the park, it is never surprising that even some of the newest characters of Disney subsidiaries are available to help celebrate Halloween.

…An okapi calf was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the twelfth okapi born at Walt Disney World Resort and the fifth at the lodge. Named Beni, the baby okapi is the first calf to be born at Walt Disney World Resort since 2018, and at a little over three feet tall from hoof to shoulder, he weighs just under 100 pounds. He could eventually grow to between five and six feet tall and up to 650 pounds!
BOO! Isn’t this the cutest “ghost of the forest” you’ve ever seen? Meet Beni, an okapi calf born this summer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. He’s currently backstage where he’s perfecting his wobbly walk & following in mom Olivia’s “hoof”steps: https://t.co/wrazEjYyW9 pic.twitter.com/KenADpz0AE

…Disney Parks Blog saluted Miguel Arribas this week as part of honoring of all the talented Hispanic cast members and beyond. Arribas has devoted more than 50 years of his life to creating Disney-themed collectibles as a glass artist at Arribas Brothers stores across Walt Disney World Resort since opening year. Originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, Arribas is one of the longest-serving team members at the Walt Disney World Arribas Brothers locations. Walt Disney World Resort, and especially Disney Springs, is now celebrating Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month.
…Looking ahead to Thanksgiving, Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Disney Springs will be serving up its special Thanksgiving dinner all day—11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Guests who prefer to order lunch or dinner from the restaurant’s all-day menu are also welcome to do so; Raglan’s plant-based Shepherd’s Pie (This Shepherd Went Vegan) is a popular vegan option too. Live Irish music and dance begins at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and continues through pub close.

Welsh Businesses Face Perfect Storm Of Risk Business News Wales
Welsh Businesses Face Perfect Storm Of Risk – Business News Wales https://bentoncountynewsnow.com/welsh-businesses-face-perfect-storm-of-risk-business-news-wales/
ICAEW’s director for Wales, Robert Lloyd Griffiths is urging Welsh firms to review their approach to risk management and prepare for further challenges ahead.
His call follows a recent report published last month by fellow professional membership body, the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) which found businesses are facing a perfect storm of risks with the war in Ukraine, the cost-of-living crisis, looming recession and the climate emergency throwing many into a permanent state of crisis.
The Risk in Focus 2023 research report identifies the top risks facing organisations for the year ahead based on a poll of 834 chief audit executives (CAEs). Cybersecurity tops the annual business risk survey for the fifth year running, with 82% of CAEs citing it a top five risk, reflecting the rapidly weaponised cyber-attack landscape.
Half cite human capital, diversity, and talent management a top five risk making it the second biggest risk faced by organisations, up two positions from 4th place last year – reflecting the severe recruitment and retention challenges facing many companies. Meanwhile, geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty is the risk that has risen highest up the agenda, up four positions from 7th to 3rd place in the risk rankings, marking a 44% year-on-year increase. And yet, despite the severity of this risk 92% of respondents say they are not spending major time or effort auditing the impacts of this risk on their business.
As the war in Ukraine intensifies, it is accompanied by higher global energy prices, soaring inflation, and increased tensions between the West and China, so the gap between awareness and action taken to mitigate this rising risk is alarming.
Other key findings in the report include:
Changes in laws and regulations were cited as a top five risk by 44% of respondents, slightly down from 46% a year ago.
Digital disruption, new technology and AI was cited by 38%, down from 45% and moving it from the 3rd to 5th biggest risk, as other issues take precedence.
Climate change continues to rise in the rankings for the fifth year in a row. Perhaps prompted by the record-breaking temperatures recorded across Europe this summer, 37% now cite climate change as a top five risk, compared to 31% last year.
Robert Lloyd Griffiths, Director of ICAEW in Wales says that the survey results reinforce why Welsh businesses should be focusing on risk management and resilience as a priority:
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy here in Wales and they are facing multiple risks as the cost of doing business soars and the political uncertainty continues. It is therefore critical that businesses of all sizes review their approach to risk management and prepare for the potential challenges ahead because, now more than ever, there is a need for good governance and prudence.”
“Although change is a feature of doing business, managing it successfully can be complex. During times of economic uncertainty, businesses will often focus on the short term and how to survive the current storm, but boards must also consider what might be around the corner.”
“While we don’t know what 2023 is going to bring, ICAEW Chartered Accountants will be guiding their clients and taking these decisions in businesses the length and breadth of Wales over the coming weeks and months. Our members have the skills to help model the impact of any changes so businesses can plan ahead, as well as advise on new approaches and investments.”
“The Risk in Focus report sets out a series of recommendations for how boards should work with their audit and finance functions to tackle these risks. There is also help and guidance available via our own Corporate Governance Community. We urge businesses of all sizes across Wales to take heed of this advice.”
Membership of ICAEW’s Corporate Governance Community is free and open to everyone, including non-ICAEW members. Further information is available here.
