Immanuel Kant hat die Philosophie revolutioniert: Sein kategorischer Imperativ prägt unser westliches Denken über Freiheit, Toleranz und Vernunft. Er ist der meistzitierte Philosoph der Neuzeit. Anlässlich seines 300. Geburtstags begibt sich der Film auf einen Spaziergang durchs historische Königsberg, Kants Wirkungsstätte. Von Kernthemen und Irrwegen der Kantschen Philosophie.
Die Filmbiografie über den größten Denker der Aufklärung zeigt zu seinem 300. Geburtstag im April 2024 mit kritischem Augenzwinkern das Philosophie-Genie Kant als alt gewordenen, von den Menschen enttäuschten Spaziergänger in seiner Geburtsstadt Königsberg. Wenige haben ihn verstanden, niemand scheint seine Ideen zu befolgen. Er selbst hat sich in der zeitgenössischen Debatte des 18. Jahrhunderts über Rassismus und Kolonialismus verrannt und sieht sich und seine Ideen missverstanden. Der Film spannt dokumentarisch und mit ausgestalteten Spielszenen einen dramatischen Bilder- und Geschichtenbogen von Königsberg im 18. Jahrhundert bis zum heutigen russischen Kaliningrad. Themen wie Vernunft, Freiheit, Krieg, Ausbeutung und Rassismus werden von international renommierten Philosophen und Kantianern wie Corine Pelluchon, Susan Neiman oder Marcus Willaschek erörtert. Sie begleiten Kant als Verfasser der wichtigen Schrift "Zum ewigen Frieden" bei seinen Spaziergängen durch Königsberg und werden somit auf imaginäre Weise zu Kronzeugen von Kants Aufklärung bis in deren gedankliche Höhen und Abgründe hinein. Sicher ist, dass Kants Ideen jenseits des Films heute produktiv sind und ungewohnte Sichtweisen auf aktuelle Themen, wie zum Beispiel den Palästinakonflikt, ermöglichen. Regisseur und Produzent Wilfried Hauke gelingt auf unterhaltsame wie nachdenkliche Weise, mit dem Schauspieler Wolfgang Riehm Kant in der verschwundenen Welt des Königsbergs im 18. Jahrhundert lebendig werden zu lassen. Königsberg wurde am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs völlig zerstört und als das russische Kaliningrad neu aufgebaut.
