These three dynamic sisters, Denise, Dolores and Bonné Dunning, are the original female vocalists of the hit R&B/Funk Band SKYY. More vibrant than ever, the Ladies of SKYY continue the legacy of SKYY’s music, delighting national and international audiences with their engaging live performances. Born and raised in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York, the women crafted their vocals in a variety of choral groups at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School. The lively musical culture at the school allowed the sisters’ talents to flourish, performing in numerous talent shows and local variety shows under the name “The Sounds of Soul.” Their professional career began after an impressive audition for Randy Muller, Brooklyn-based producer and writer. Randy not only welcomed them as the opening act for Brass Construction, but used their vocal skills on various Muller-produced albums for Brass Construction, Rafael Cameron, Mark Radice and Charles Earland. In 1976, they joined Solomon Roberts, Jr., Anibal Boochie Sierra and Gerald LeBon, and officially formed SKYY. The sisters recorded ten albums and performed on several worldwide tours with the top artists of the 80’s including Rick James, Parliament Funkadelic and Kool & the Gang. Their popularity continued in the 90’s as they toured with then emerging hip-hop groups like Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, Sequence, and the Sugar Hill Gang. SKYY topped the Billboard R&B charts with several top-20 albums and singles. Most notably, their album “Skyy Line” and the single, “Call Me,” not only achieved number-one status on the Billboard Charts but was certified gold. Two more break-out hits, “Real Love” and “Start of a Romance” from their “Start of a Romance” LP achieved number one status as well. After a 13 year association with SKYY, the sisters renewed the SKYY mantle and adopted the name “Ladies of SKYY”. The Ladies’ most notable concerts include the Salsoul Reunion Concert in New York City, La Grande Nuit De La Funk in Lyon, Paris, France, The Corporate Elite Gala, Lagos, Nigeria, City Parks Foundation SummerStage concerts in New York City, and the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The Ladies of SKYY have the distinction of being the ONLY female groups with all original members intact. SKYY's TVOne Unsung story aired in March of 2020. The Ladies of recorded two new songs for release in 2021. "Love At First Sight" was released in June of 2021 in collaboration with A-P Connection (a world renowned French production team) and their album Wide Vision. With a musical career spanning four decades, the Ladies of SKYY have earned their rightful place as one of the founding females of disco, dance, funk, hip hop and R&B music.
