Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez reiterates that vote buying is against the law, in response to statements of some political aspirants to take the money but vote based on conscience. Buying and selling votes are punishable with imprisonment of up to six years and disqualification from holding public office and voting, according to the Omnibus Election Code.
