Supporters of an initiative to create nonpartisan open primaries and establish ranked-choice voting announced Monday they intend to sue Attorney General Raúl Labrador over his ballot titles for the initiative.

The leader who brought the suit, James Posey, failed to notify the city’s elections officer in writing that he’d filed a court petition seeking the rewording, as required by law.

The Oregon Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum must redo the ballot title for a proposed initiative to transfer the job of drawing the state's electoral lines from lawmakers, to a new independent commission. That will make it difficult for supporters to gather enough signatures to get on the ballot this year.
