Why Canada needs degrowth – Canadian Dimension
Why Canada needs degrowth – Canadian Dimension
Canada’s obsession with GDP growth fuels ecological collapse and worsens the climate crisis. Degrowth offers a realistic path forward: cutting wasteful production, meeting essential needs, and distributing resources fairly. On a finite planet, pursuing endless economic expansion isn’t prosperity, writes Omer Tayyab, it’s a slow-motion disaster we can still choose to avoid.

Show the Feds What's Possible
No one wants to struggle to survive. Fossil fuel dependence is making life more expensive, unsafe, and volatile for everyday people, all while billionaires profit from fuelling climate chaos. Everyone deserves a safe, affordable future. Cheap, clean renewable energy is the key to a better future. We need action now to ensure affordable energy, breathable air, and a liveable climate.

The Ontario Clean Air Alliance led the successful campaign to phase-out Ontario’s five dirty coal-fired power plants. We are now working to move to a zero carbon electricity grid by 2035, and lower electricity bills, through an integrated combination of energy conservation and efficiency, cost-effective Made-in-Ontario green energy, and energy cooperation with Hydro Quebec.Today, the OCAA is working on the next step to clean up our electricity grid by phasing out gas power. As a first step we’re calling for Ontario to triple its wind and solar and double its energy efficiency.
