In May 2014, we trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal with two drones: a DJI Phantom and a TurboAce Matrix. This was my 7th visit to Everest and once again it was the adventure of a lifetime!
The resulting aerial footage in this video is the culmination of nearly a year of training, planning, crashing, experimentation and exhilaration. The ability to capture these unique views with a drone was amazing. Perspective changes everything.
When we arrived at Everest Base Camp it was mostly deserted due to the tragic April 18, 2014 avalanche that killed 16 Sherpa and Nepalese guides, and the subsequent cancellation of the Spring climbing season on the South Side of the mountain.
Many thanks to my incredible staff of Sherpa guides and porters who made this trip possible and hand carried the fragile aircraft and support gear over these high altitude passes as well as up to Everest Base Camp. I could not have accomplished this goal without their generous help, hard work and sincere friendship.
Thanks also to my wonderful 2014 Himalayan Workshops clients for their enthusiasm and support as I was constantly repairing, charging and obsessing over the drones. Sharing the experience with them made it so much richer.
For more information on my equipment and process, please listen to Chris Marquardt's Tips From The Top Floor podcast where we discussed my plans for this trek: http://www.tipsfromthetopfloor.com/2014/05/09/tfttf635-interview-jon-miller-drones/

Flat Earth - An explanation of convergence on the horizon using a freight hauler in Tampa Florida as an example. (July 3, 2015). Video shot by Lori Frary.
Watch this next and you'll see how a zoom lens brings the setting sun back up over the curvature that isn't really there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0ukYcW93as&feature=share

You can only see a "horizon line" when viewing two elements coming together, like sky/water or sky/land. That is the line of convergence that all humans see because that's how our eyes work... but it is not a sign of curvature. That is the big lie that supports the story that we live on a spinning ball.
Example: Why is there no horizon line when you lay on your back and look up into the sky? Because there is only one element you are looking at...air.
Roll that around in your globe programmed mind. Free Our Flat Earth!

The camera is a Canon Vixia HF R20 with 28x Zoom videocamera. You can buy one used for around $150...new around $500. Telescopes are cheaper but then you have to buy a camera attachment to film what you see.

I used to make this drive a few times a week in 2017 as part of my job at the Yuan-Tseh Lee Array (the first telescope passed inside the gate at MLO). And this is actually only half the drive; it's another 45 minutes from Hilo up Saddle Road to the turn-off point.
Recorded on July 20, 2017 in some really nice weather.
Music used is:
