COVID-19 was a global pandemic that altered many aspects of American life. From January 2020 to August 2024, over 1,100,000 Americans died from the disease. Quarantine measures, enacted to avoid the spread of COVID-19, altered the way Americans worked and lived. Many social activities—including school and faith-based gatherings—moved online. Even at this writing, COVID-19 continues to impact many Americans’ everyday experiences.

Federalism is rightly viewed as a bulwark of human rights. Yet rights advocates should be aware of its limitations in the protection of marginalized communities and democratic norms.

This resource bank provides materials about discrimination and offers information for allies and marginalized groups working to make a difference in their communities. These resources include information on organizations that are committed to anti-discrimination work, mass media, and both academic and professional articles covering topics such as identifying and addressing discrimination, advocacy work, and dialoging about discrimination and anti-discrimination in the classroom.

What’s an archive and community archivist? An archive is a time capsule and active space where past and present merge. It contains primary resources that preserve the history of several generations. An archivist appraises, arranges, describes, and preserves archives. Archiving is storytelling and you can be a Community Archivist! These toolkits can be used to reclaim and preserve history. ASU Library provides free Archive Starter Kits to the communities we serve (Latinx, Black, Asian and Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and LGBTQ). This article critically looks at the human rights project as a damning three-dimensional metaphor that exposes multiple complexes. It argues that the grand narrative of human rights contains a subtext which depicts an epochal contest pitting savages, on the one hand, against victims and saviors, on the other. The savages-victims-saviors (SVS) construction lays bare some of the hypocrisies of the human rights project and asks human rights thinkers and advocates to become more self-reflective. The piece questions the universality and cultural neutrality of the human rights project. It calls for the construction of a truly universal human rights corpus, one that is multicultural, inclusive, and deeply political.

Based on the lens of history highlighted in Howard Zinn’s best-selling book A People’s History of the United States, the website offers free, downloadable lessons and articles organized by theme, time period, and reading level.

For over 20 years, Colorlines has led the way in quality, race-focused journalism that centers people of color and marginalized voices. When mainstream media shied away from reporting on race, Colorlines called out systemic racism in all its manifestations, first through a print magazine and then online. In the aftermath of the 2020 Uprisings and within the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the reality of the world we lived in was placed starkly in front of us.
